  4. Phils2611 Says:

Congrats guys, the best team this season won!

I’d like to be classy, but to everyone not a Phillies fan… HAHAHAHAHA! WE WIN SUCKERS!

Keep on doubting us, we’ll keep on winning!

  5. NEPA Says:

Speechless. This season will probably never be matched for me personally.

  6. clicheguevara Says:

    FELIZ COMPEONATO!

  7. NEPA Says:

And Tim, you called it. This team was all business, all season long.

  8. Joe Says:

This is why sports are better than drama. We all know how the play is going to end. But when we win the championship, it is always a surprise and delight.

  9. Geoff Says:

This is why we were hard on this team sometimes, because we knew they had the capability and the potential to accomplish this. Im so gratified that they were able to focus and get it done. Charlie Manuel is a great manager, I dont care what anybody says about him. He got them focused and allowed their abilities to shine through.

    Anyways…YEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAH BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Tim Malcolm Says:

So the server has been acting up.

    Whatever.

    WE’RE WORLD CHAMPIONS!

  11. BD57 Says:

This whole post-season run has been a blast; every night, these guys played for each other, picked each other up & got the job done.

I especially appreciate what they overcame to get it done. Let’s face it, there are other starting rotations that are stronger from 1 through 5, but these guys battled & fought and the bullpen always had their back.

And in the end, they won it all.

    Beautiful.

  12. GOOSEBUMPS Says:

THANKS FOR HAVING ME ALL YEAR! NEXT STOP: PARADE!!!

    GO PHILS!!!!!!!

    PHAITH.

But especially thank you to Pat Gillick, Charlie, and to every single one of the men who took the field for the Phillies this year. Congratulations to every single Phillies fan out there!!!!!!

I’ve never posted here before, but I’ve been reading this blog religiously ever since spring training. I just want to thank Tim and the guys for creating one of the absolute best blogs in baseball. Your complete coverage of the Phillies is impeccable and unmatched, and I want to thank you guys for making this season even more unbelievable. Hopefully next year I’ll start being a regular poster.

  28. Phillies Phan SC Says:

I moved to SC in 2003, I bought my Extra Innings each year, watched every game I could. I traveled to Philly to see the last games against the Nats. This has to be one of the best moments of my life and I am SO GLAD I was a part of this season as a whole. I will always be proud to be a Phan and have now felt a part of this Phillies Nation community! Thank you all for supporting the Phillies and lifting the other fans up. This blog has really helped me during the season.

  29. SJ Mike Says:

Tim, Rob, Brian, and the rest of the PhilliesNation writers.

I had only just discovered this blog in August or September. It is a wonderful forum to gather with a Phillies fanbase and community.

It has been an absolute pleasure posting here with everyone else.

Here’s to the 2008 Phillies! Hope to see some PhilliesNation posters at the parade on Friday!

  30. Phillies Phan SC Says:

I am also glad to know others had tears. I was like a little girl (I am a dude, which is part of the joke) driving home listening on XM.

  31. Greg F. Says:

I want to echo Andy and say this blog has been outstanding, the best and most authoritative site anywhere. Hats off!

What an amazing season. From that first series at Shea when JRoll turns his ankle. The Rollins benchings. To Adam Eaton walking Randy Johnson on four pitches in Arizona. To Howard’s plummeting BA, I never dreamed we would see this day. I sensed that the seas were parting when the Brewers came into town and we swept them down four in the wild card. And then the Cubs flame out in the NLDS and suddenly we’re looking at home field in the NLCS. And then the Red Sox are bounced, the one team I had concerns about for match-ups, and there it was. All stretched out in front of us. And suddenly you dare to dream. There was no question in my mind the Phillies were head and shoulders a better baseball team than the Rays. No question.

WE ARE THE KINGS OF THE BASEBALL WORLD BABY!!

  32. Greg V. Says:

This is one of the great moments in my life. This sport and this team has always been my number one. I was 3 months old in 1980 when they won. Throughout my childhood I would watch the games every Sunday at my late grandparents’ house. As I got older I got more and more into it. I’ve seen the best and the worst this team has to offer. I’ve seen it all. I am the proudest fan in the world tonight. This is the moment I have been waiting for and it feels so good. I love this team. I love the Philadelphia Phillies.

  33. SJ Will Says:

OMG I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO PHILS!!! I WISH I WAS IN PHILLY THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!! I CRIED SO MUCH!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!

  34. nick Says:

  35. Tim the Phan Says:

I don’t know what to say. I got tears in my eyes and I cannot find the words to describe what I am feeling. I talked to my grandpa after the game was over and he said he had expected to die before this happened. That really made the tears flow even more.

The Phillies are the 2008 World Champions. I still can’t believe I am writing that. What a feeling… what a feeling.

    I love this freaking team.

  50. Mike W. Says:

Congrats to all of us in here. This was my first season commenting on Phillies Nation, and it has been great to always have somewhere to go when you just wanna cheer/complain/debate with real fans.

I just have one question for Mike T. as we end this season….Is this a good team right now? (Just a sarcastic jab Mike, we are 2008 world champs!)

I am probably one of the youngest posters here, I am only 18 but I have loved the Phillies since I can remember. I am from Upstate NY and I get yelled at all the time for being a Phillies fan and I have always stood tall. Man does this feel sweet. WE ARE WORLD CHAMPIONS, I WILL SEE YOU AT THE PARADE!!!

  57. T Marty Says:

  58. T Marty Says:

never forget this (how could you?) thank you all the fine folk at Phillies Nation, i found fellow Phans, (it’s hard when 97% of your friends and family are Eagles fans). this experience, (not just winning the MF WS), but being able to comment with real fans: Priceless.
    thank you. Phillies!
well worth over 30 years of being a fan.

  59. Grrrumpy Miner Says:

This site konked out on me.First off Tim,Congrats to you and for all of the dedicated Phillies fans who have posted in here from all the “Shut your hole Jimmy” to “Cole Hamels will never be a big game pitcher” to a championship. If I may paraphrase from Mets world champ from 69 Bud Harellson. “You are world champions.Irreversible,Nobody can take it away from you” Secondly,I visited the Metsblog and realise why I come in here in the first place, but I’ll say this….not every Mets fan is that immature and classless.Congrats again and I tip my Mets orange and blue cap to you……..tomorrow/Today I get back to basics and get ready for Hot Stove Baseball.

  60. ActuallyChilled Says:

pride; continuation; real people – philadelphia.

  61. Phil Says:

I just got back from the madness on Broad. I was at the game tonight. I got teary eyed when Lidge struck out Hinske then when Charlie said Philadelphia this is for you I started to cry. He was so passionate about it. I’m once again crying because it is finally sinking in. This is the happiest day of my life. I saw some of the most f*cked up shit on Broad and it was so awesome. I took some pictures with my cell phone and I’ll email them to philliesnation so they can post them maybe. I have a picture of a fire, green man dancing on top of a bus stop thing, a bus stop thing that got totally smashed, amongst some others. I love this city and I am so glad I live here. I’m also kind of glad I live in West Philly because my neighborhood is totally clean. This team is a championship team. When Madson let up that homer in the top of the 7th, what did they do? They scored another run. When McNabb gets into trouble what does he do? He rolls over and dies. What did Lindros do for 10 years or so with the Flyers? Shit the bed. What did Iverson do as a Sixer? Hog the ball. This team doesn’t do these things. They got it done. This won’t be the last World Series this core wins either. This team is a dynasty.

  62. Craig Says:

Phillies are the champions!, Phillies are the champions!

    Enjoy.

  63. Greg Says:

    it’s just so amazing…

  64. brooks Says:

The sweetest thing in the world!!!!!!!! WS Champions!
And guess what Philly – we won it with ease! 3-1 vs the Brewers; 4-1 vs the Dodgers and 4-1 vs Tampa – how slick is that???

We gave each series our clunker, as a matter of fact, we tried to give LA 2 clunkers but Victorino and Matt Stairs decided otherwise with 2 swings… we were not to be denied!

I got home after midnight, could not fall asleep until after 2, woke up at 4:30 and am now headed to work wishing I could be with everyone else partying! What a time to be a fan!

go Phillies! See you all next year!

  65. Adam Eaton Says:

I knew you guys could do it!

  66. Baseball Fan Says:

I hope Jose Reyes is watching, the arrogant SS can’t show boat anymore, Rollins has a ring and he does not. Enough to keep the loud mouth with no backing quiet for a while :)

  67. E Paul Lian, Scottsdale, AZ Says:

Hey….THANKS to the PhilliesNation for letting me in on all of this….it’s all TOO COOL !!

WOW…..Phillies Nation are World Series Champions !!

  68. Craig Says:

We’ve won more WS than all of the New York teams combined this century!

  69. RK Says:

    Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

    No words to describe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  70. BrewTownPhilsPhan Says:

flyrzphan, Pat Gillick congratulated the Rays before he said anything else from the platform on the field after the game. You’re right, though, in this: the Rays are a good young team that played amazingly well; I don’t see how hating them makes this sweeter.

It seems like the site has had problems in the biggest postseason moments, but I take that as a compliment to the blog. It’s gotten too big for its server. We all want to rejoice together here, and that’s just a testimony to how awesome this blog has been.

Tim, you kept me sane the last few weeks. Thanks

  71. BrewTownPhilsPhan Says:

    My story is this:

I didn’t put my three year old to bed until after the game because I couldn’t bring myself to step away. He didn’t understand at all what was happening, but he’s been learning the basic differences between baseball and football. The most important one (in his mind) is that they don’t tackle people in baseball. That makes football a far superior sport in his mind.

So when Ryan Howard charged the mound like a defensive end and put a major lick on Brad and Chooch, he was stunned. “Dad! He just tackled him!” I said, “Yeah, buddy. Normally they don’t tackle in baseball, but once a year they do. Every season ends exactly like this, only this year it’s special because Daddy’s team won.”

I finally put him to bed during the first postgame commercial break. When I came downstairs my wife was popping the bottle of champaign she had secretly bought on Monday to celebrate. We sat and watched the interviews on Fox and then ESPN and polished off the bottle. And it was as sweet as champaign has ever tasted to me!

  72. D. Young Says:

    The Rays got robbed!

  73. Phils2611 Says:

    D. Young — HAHA! They got robbed? You make me chuckle.

  74. Joaquin Says:

Congrats to the players. Well played, well deserved… But the fans don’t deserve it . What a bunch of low class a*holes! Only that the players can’t say what they really want but i’m sure atop of the appreciation they had for the fans, they have had to be ashamed of their acts.

  75. Phils2611 Says:

    We’re Philadelphia. We won.

Your comments are useless… We don’t care. It fuels are fire!

  76. Phils2611 Says:

    our*

  77. RiVLez Says:

Congratulations to all the Phillies fans on here, this was a well deserved championship. Enjoy yourselves!!!!

  78. Chuck Says:

D Young………I told you yesterday that you were an idiot. This just confirms that.

Joaquin…….are you speaking of ALL the fans with that statement. Are you saying that me and everyone else on this blog and that my 11-yr old and everyone else’s kids who are fans and old people that can’t get out but remember what it was like 28 yrs ago, etc., etc., etc., …….are you saying that ALL of us are a bunch of low class a*holes?

  79. rootin tootin Says:

yoo D YOUNG NO SOUR GRAPES ……………….. I CRIED TOO BUT WAS HAPPY TO SEE THE THE FROWNS ON BUCK AND MCCARVERS. FACES….THOSE GUYS WERE FOR THE RAYS OR ANY OTHER TEAM THIS W
HOLE PLAYOFF AND SERIES………GET A LIFE YOU BUMS. ANYWAYS THANK YOU PHILLIES NOW LETS HAVE FUN AT THE PARADE AND SHOW THE WORLD WE DON’T NEED VANDALIZISM TO CELEBRATE THAT WAS THE ONLY DAMPER TO THE GREAT TIME FOR THE CITY AND THE PHILLIES BECOMING WORLD CHAMPIONS. THANKS AGAIN PHILLIES

  80. RiVLez Says:

Why would anyone try to come on here and talk smack now??? Can’t say sh*t, the Phillies are the 2008 World Champs. Go talk smack elsewhere.

  81. Chuck Says:

This blog is awesome……I just have to say that. I really wanted to continue posting last night during the game…..but couldn’t. It was just too intense. I seriously didn’t know what to do at times except pace the floor and watch the game (or listen, too….I had the radio on as well!). Afterwards, I was in total shock and all I could do was just soak up all the coverage I could for as long as it was on. Like everyone else, today I’m a little tired…..but it’s the best knd of tired one can have.

  82. Chuck Says:

RiVLez……they’re just a bunch of low-lives that have nothing better to do right now. Let them talk smack…….we can legitimately just give it right back to them!!

  83. Scotty Says:

I feel like I’m 12 again. This is just amazing.

    Thank you PHILS!!!

  84. Dennis Says:

Congrats to the Phils and all the fans on here! It’s been one hell of a ride and I’m glad to enjoy with all of you! See you tomorrow on Broad Street!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  85. Phils2611 Says:

I don’t have any PTO time @ work + I live in Maryland near Baltimore…

I won’t be able to make the parade :-( If anyone can take pics or video that would be AWESOME!

  86. Todd Says:

i tried to get on last night to say this but the server was buggy…

I love you, all of you. real love… awesome all season long, even you goddam trolls. thanks for everything.

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  87. Todd Says:

anyone know when the parade is supposed to be? i want to come down for it.

  88. Phils2611 Says:

    Friday @ 12 noon?

  89. Phils2611 Says:

    http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20081029&content_id=3653566&vkey=news_phi&fext=.jsp&c_id=phi

  90. Aaron Proctor Says:

I sure did move back to Philadelphia at the right time!

This is a glorious feeling and I filmed reactions here in the suburbs to someday share with my children and grandchildren.

We deserve this so much..and hells yeah, I’ll be at the parade!!!!!

  91. Chuck Says:

Phils2611……This is sure better than what the O’s almost did in 97 and 98, huh? These guys GOT IT DONE!!!!!!!!

  92. Phils2611 Says:

Heck yes! In my defense, I’ve lived here for 5 months lol. I lived in Reading, PA pretty much my entire life… Been a Phils phan since I knew what baseball was.

  93. D. Young Says:

The were lucky to win – good thing the umps helped them out! Now go out show and show the sports world what drunken fools you can be. Low class town and fans.

  94. Phils2611 Says:

    D. Young — Doesn’t surprise me that someone like you would only pick out the umpire help on our side. Don’t count out Rollins jersey being caught by a pitch, Moyer’s fantastic play to Howard, and Myer’s strike out that was granted as a walk…

The blown calls against the Phillies effected them much more than the blown calls against the Rays. You can’t come here and talk. I don’t care who your team is — you suck. We’re the champs! We will get drunk, and we will party. Your only defense now is to say we’re low class, keep it up, we love it. Keep making us laugh in your face!

    WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!

  95. Gary B Says:

Amazing! Now whens the parade? I live in Charlotte, NC and if it is tomorrow I have to start acting sick right about now and drive up tonight!

  96. Phils2611 Says:

Gary — read up a bit. I posted a link that should have some up-to-date details. Also, for the latest info., check out the Phillies home page.

  97. RK Says:

    Gary,
    Friday @ Noon

  98. D. Young Says:

Enjoy your victory because at the rate you get them it’ll be another 83 years before the next one.

  99. RK Says:

Best thing we can do is ignore the Trolls and not get caught up in there BS.
I heard on 610 this morning that it is so hard to win a WS that no team other then the yanks have won more then 2 since 1976. Anyone who says the Phils got lucky are full of it.

  100. Gary B Says:

Sorry guys, I was just scanning the page. I should’ve read more. Thanks for the info!

  101. Phils2611 Says:

    D. Young — I love you.

    Phillies own you!

  102. Jack Says:

Geoff says “This is why we were hard on this team sometimes, because we knew they had the capability.” No, moron. You were hard on them because you don’t know any better. You boo and bitch and hate your players and then when they are good, you cheer and pretend that it never happened. That’s why players hate Philadelphia. That’s why the United States hates Philadelphia fans. Notice nobody watched the World Series? Why? Because the country is tired of listening to you bitch. I’m glad you one, now maybe you can start acting like normal citizens and fans and stop killing cops, booing everyone and terrorizing opposing fans. Here’s to real America.

  103. Gary B Says:

You’re glad we “one?” Thanks idiot. Now go work on your spelling.

    GO PHILS!

  104. Leo Says:

Craig- you hope Jose Reyes is watching? the arrogant SS can’t show boat anymore? Rollins has a ring and he does not? Hmm… wait, you like Rollins now? I rememember BOOOOS and hate posts. I guess he’s cool now. Good fan.

  105. Jack Says:

Yes, Gary B. I made a mistake typing. Shoot me. Wait, you are a Philly fan, so you might. Don’t you have to get ready to boo Burrell in April? Or does he get a pass for a few months? Let’s see, how long was Mike Schmidt’s pass?

  106. Phils2611 Says:

Jack — We’re passionate, ’nuff said. You can’t speak on behalf of all Philly fans, some are just straight up idiots. But this is a great city, and we have great people.

The Phillies worked hard for this win, and we supported them. We’ll continue to support all of our teams. People across America that aren’t a part of our fanbase will continue to hate us, and say that we’re terrible.

Like anything else, it’s easy for the media to spread how terrible all of us fans are.

Say what you want, but we’re champs, and we love our city and all of it’s teams.

Lets go Phils, Eagles, Flyers, Sixers!!!

  107. Jmus Says:

how bout pat the bat, smokin that ball…who do you think he got into after the game

  108. Jon M Says:

Jack and D Young, jump off a building. The Phillies are World Series Champions! Couldn’t have asked for a better season…Thank you 2008 Phillies. See everyone at the parade!!!!

  109. Grrrumpy Miner Says:

Fans are very fickle when it comes to cheering and booing.Whether you are an Amazins fan,Phillies fan,Cubs fan, even Royals fans (yes they do have fans too) you boo if any player doesn’t deliver and go nuts when that player gets the big hit,a great play or a win……..Its the nature of the beast when it comes to sports.

  110. Phils2611 Says:

Grumpy — you’re right. That’s really how it goes.

  111. NJ (WE DO Believe!) Says:

You have to love the fans in the stadium booing Selig during the trophy presentation, us Philly fans will not change no matter how bad or good it gets and that’s such a credit to the city.

On could 9 this morning, the Phils really earned this championship as an organisation. We’ve critisized a hell of a lot of the moves, decisions and commitments of the players at times but we’ve been taught the ultimate show a little faith. Next year I hope we pick-up where we’ve left of but if we start 0-4 don’t care because we’re World Champions!

    It’s on you now Ruben

  112. Chuck Says:

Jack where are you from? Do you live in a fairytale world where there is no crime? Where everything is perfect? Where everybody’s perfect? Jack…are ou perfect? Wait a minute….I just answered my own question……You are the PERFECT MORON.

And D Young…..you’re right there with him.

  113. Chuck Says:

    you*

  114. David, the Mets fan from Queens Says:

I’m going to the Sixers-Knicks game in Philly wearing my Richardson Jersey. Let’s go Knicks! lol Oh boy. It’s tough to bite your tongue as a Mets fan, but basketball season is underway!

  115. David, the Mets fan from Queens Says:

And Congratulations. I bet South Street is going bananas.

  116. Chuck Says:

Have fun David …..and best of luck…….oh, and be careful!

  117. D. Young Says:

Just make sure you take enough cash cash to bail yourself out when you get thrown in the slammer for being drunken jerks. Have fun with Bubba!

  118. NJ (WE DO Believe!) Says:

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/ben_reiter/10/29/carlos.ruiz/index.html?eref=T1

    So true

  119. Chuck Says:

cash cash?? You can’t spell and you can’t write.

  120. Phils2611 Says:

As long as I’m not in a cell with you, I’ll be happy.

  121. Mark Says:

Hey guys, I hope that you post parade pix on Friday so that this Phillies fan in Israel can Kvell (Yiddish for well up with pride). There are quite a few Mets and Yankees fans here that don’t wanna hear me!

This team did it — Pat “the Bat” said it best on MLB; a different guy stepping up in the clutch in each game (or half-game for that matter). Man, I hope that he’s here next season.

Man, just reel those names off — Moyer, Myers, Madson, Romero, Lidge, Utley, Rollins, Howard, “Bat”, Feliz, Ruiz….

    This trumps 1980!

    Way to Go PHILLIES!

  122. Mark T Says:

I did not even know what to do with myself last night. I just sat there with a big grin on my face and a couple tears in my eyes. It is so unbelievable that I feel like I must be dreaming right now at work. The only part that pains me is that I had to move to Rochester, NY in September, but I’ve watched along on MLB.tv and now…I feel vindicated. I think Pat Gillick owed us this one after ‘93 :) . The Phillies are the best baseball team in the world! How great is that?

  123. SJ Phillies Fan Says:

OH MY GOD!!!! OH MY GOD!!!
This is such a tremendous day!!! To celebrate – the first 10 people to visit SuperLogoz.com and email the World Series MVP to the address located on the T-Shirts section of the site will automatically receive a FREE SuperLogoz Phillies T-Shirt

  124. NJ (WE DO Believe!) Says:

Have got to add Charlie, Gillick, Ruben, Milt, Rich, Davey to Mark’s list.

Seriously who thought Rich Dubee and Milt Thompson were going to produce WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!!

  125. Georgie Says:

    hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  126. Rick Says:

    BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!!!

Thank you to Tim, Rob, and all the others who run this blog! It is my favorite place to go for stress relief throughout my workdays!

Is philliesnation.com trying to get together tomorrow for the parade?

  127. SJ Mike Says:

I’m off to Modells to get my championship gear!

  128. Chuck Says:

Tim……… better check out SJPhillies Fan…….he’s the one with that website from yesterday

  129. Chuck Says:

SJ……was thinking just the same thing!!

  130. SJ Mike Says:

Chuck, I couldn’t sleep because I kept thinking about buying the gear! Ha!

Boo ya! I’m still giddy as hell.

  131. NJ (WE DO Believe!) Says:

Me too but am in the UK so can’t get the gear, want to cry…

  132. Georgie Says:

I have to say Wheels pumping his fists while Harry was making the final out call was really funny. I’m watching csn replays for the 10000th time, can never get enough.

  133. Richie Allen Says:

This is so great I cant describe it……..but do we have to put up with these trolls even after we won the series…Were #1 and they are still giving us static..unbeleivable.
I feel best for Burrell..the guy was obviously trying too hard…to have the hit that produced the winning run is tremendous.
You couldnt write a better story for hollywood.

  134. Chase Mutley Says:

Is it bad that the first thing I thought of when I woke up, before that we’re World Champions; the first thing I thought of was that Pat Burrell missed his shot at Philadelphia folklore by about a foot. I really wanted that for him. It was the one missing piece.

    I’ll take it though.

    WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!!!

  135. NJ (WE DO Believe!) Says:

I want to get a t-shirt with Ruiz’s number, no matter where it goes from here we’re always going to to remember him stepping up in the play-offs. When we think Jenkins we don’t think the high price tag, his struggles or the emergence of Jayson Werth, we think of a pinch-hit lead-off double to ignite the Phillies Championship winning night.

Last night really makes you appreciate the guys who ge forgotten, does anyone even care Ryan Howard was 0-4 with 3Ks??? Hell no!!

  136. Georgie Says:

I was the only one banging pots and pans in my little neighborhood last night, screaming, crying, laughing, bangin’ the pots and pans, oh happy happy day.

  137. NJ (WE DO Believe!) Says:

Listening to ESPN radio and the Phills bullpen was described as amazing from the start… Does anyone remember that catastrophic start from Flash?

  138. Phil Says:

NJ(we do believe) is that something to really bring up now?

  139. NJ Says:

I just bring it up for a chuckle… It’s been a helluva season

  140. Frank C Says:

RIDICULOUS, I cannot believe what I heard this morning on XM. The Tampa Bay Rays are in the process of appealing the outcome of Game 5 based on the way ti was played. Are you serious? What a BUNCH OF SOUR SPORTS.

  141. NJ Says:

    Is that for real?

  142. Scott Says:

I heard that as well, I would seriously hold off on buying any championship gear, or taking off of work to attend the parade.

  143. Georgie Says:

There’s no way they can take this away from the Phillies, Joe Maddon is a complete asshole if he files a protest.

  144. Frank C Says:

They didn’t get into any specifics, let alone their sources but they talked about it for a good 5 minutes. Unreal. I’m nto too worried but who knows with the way Bud Selig runs this league!

  145. NJ Says:

I’d head straight there Scott, the appeal if it is true will come to nothing. If it is true though that’s a really poor attitude from the Rays, you’d expect more from them.

  146. Chuck Says:

Way it was played?? Are you serious?? I sort of respected Maddon before but now I have no respect for him at all. The way he handled the press on Monday night and now this….if it is true…

  147. Georgie Says:

I agree Chuck, I really didn’t know much about him before the Series, but he always seemed intelligent and classy, guess my instincts were wrong on him, he was not cool last night with his smarmy attitude.

  148. Tim Malcolm Says:

This is nothing. Forget this appeal garbage and keep celebrating!

  149. Tim Malcolm Says:

So “commenter at Phillies Nation” is on the World Series Blogdome at Deadspin. I am said “commenter.”

  150. Chuck Says:

Georgie, nobody around us was banging pots and pans either. Heard a few cars go by around 10:30 or so honking but that was about it.

  151. F@#K TB Says:

The Rays are going through with this stupid appeal of the outcome of game 5 I o heard it on XM this morning……no clASS with a capital ASS

  152. Georgie Says:

I don’t know about you guys, but I want this team to stay together, I don’t want Pat to leave, hell, I don’t even want Gillick to leave.

  153. Manny Says:

    It has not settled in….

  154. NEPA Says:

Anyone have a link to an article about the appeal? should be pretty funny to read.

  155. Scott Says:

I hope this appeal gets dropped, i don’t want to see them go back down to Tampa.

  156. Frank C Says:

I still havent found any links! WTF

  157. NEPA Says:

Audio from top of the ninth (Kalas and Wheels):

    http://onthedlpodcast.com/clips/phils_champs_harry.mp3

  158. NJ Says:

    NEPA I’ll paraphrase.

Andrew Friedman memo to Bud Selig: Waaa you made us loose waaa waaa, it’s not fair waaaa, the Phillies stole our toys waaaa

  159. Geoff Says:

No, Jack. Any Phildelphia fan EXPECTS their team to win when they have this much talent. You get mad when they dont live up to their potential. Its really not that difficult…chief. you just dont understand because youre an angry human being and cant stand seeing people happy.

What makes Charlie Manuel a great manager is that he was able to harness that talent and get them to play in harmony when it mattered most. Thats why they are a great team and he is a great manager.

Also, I would like to apologize to Pat Gillick. He was right about Joe Blanton and Jayson Werth and all those moves he made that didnt knock our socks off at the time.

If the Rays are really appealing this…then theyve moved onto my list of teams that I hate. Thats absolutely low class. Phildelphia gets an UNJUSTLY harsh spin in the media and because of closed-minded humbuckuses like Jack. We just want to win, and when we dont win, we get mad. Its really that simple. But thats no different than any other city. NO DIFFERENT. We just are more passionate here than elsewhere, thats all.

and yes, humbuckuses is not a word as far as I know. Anyone want to apply a definition to it?

  160. Chase Mutley Says:

Fellas, lets be real, there is absolutely no way MLB can take this away from us. They are stoked this Series is in the bag. They couldn’t wait for it to be over, no way they’re starting it back up.

  161. Richie Allen Says:

We should have been the team to appeal because the commish had to wait till the game was tied to stop it.Should have stopped it with the Phils ahead(But that would have been a win for us),
Sounds like typical sour grapes …planted by the trolls.
We are #1 ,end of story.

  162. NEPA Says:

I can’t believe some people on here are actually worried about this appeal. I actually find it pretty funny that the Rays would stoop this low. It’s ridiculous.

  163. NC Jason Says:

Let the Rays appeal. It will not matter, just because there is an appeal it does not mean it will be overturned. But this is in line with the ump checking the ball last night at one of the player’s request (I forget who).

Do not worry about any of this. Enjoy today and tomorrow. In fact for the rest of the year and the first two months of next know all is right in the world – The Phillies are World Champs.

  164. NJ Says:

Wait I’ve just seen another part of Friedman’s memo appealing the decision: “BJ Upton had a boo boo on his soulder and it’s not fair!”

  165. Tim Malcolm Says:

Seriously, guys, shut up about the appeal. We’re CHAMPS.

  166. Chuck Says:

    Geoff……..humbuckuses……I love it!!!!

  167. NJ Says:

Hell yeah WERE CHAMPIONS! You’ve got to feel good for the players waking up today, think of guys like Matt Stairs and Geoff Jenkins who’ve been around a long time.

  168. Phillies Diary Says:

    All,

I can truly die happy today!

  169. Chuck Says:

I saw Jenkins in Clearwater in March. Man….what a classy individual. He was signing autographs and had to borrow a pen from this lady. He brought it back to her 15 minutes later and said something like, “See, I didn’t forget about you.” with this big grin on his face. That really stuck with me.

  170. Art Says:

We win in ‘80 and ‘08.

Pitcher on the mound in ‘80 – #45

Pitcher on the mound in ‘08 – #54

Go Figure – We are WORLD CHAMPS!!!!

  171. NJ Says:

Jenkins was the active major league with the longest tenure without making the post-season, so happy for those guys.

What about Tag! Am guessing he’s now the winningest Japanese player?

  172. Georgie Says:

Cole Hamels last night on his teammates-”without them I’d be nothing.”

That’s why they’re winners, they all have that attitude.

  173. mikemike Says:

When a team can win the series in five games. That is total domination. The tampa bay rays were taken apart by this team. I can’t stand to hear the announcer say one hundred season without a title. AJoe Madden is a complainer how many times did he go to the umpire. I wish they would just say The Phillies are The best Team in baseball in 2008. the past is the past, And if tampa bay gets back there again with that team I Will eat my hat. sorry have no syathy for writer and a city you consistanly down us through the series. screw them we are the champions.

  174. Peter Says:

I watched the drought end in Boston with my AL team in 2004, and I’ve watched it end in 2008 for my home-town team!

    So thrilled!

Now if I could just find that autographed Richie Ashburn baseball I got when I met the man himself at Vets Stadium when I was a wee lad…

  175. mikemike Says:

Sorry about bad grammer just mad at how we are trash by other cities, Did our writers call tampa bay a roach infestied city like it is and the worst city in florida no. we showed class and now screw them.

  176. Jamie Says:

What a night…WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS! Those words still feel really bizzare to be saying. Hope everyone had a safe and fun night.

As far as how things unfolded…Hamels ALMOST got the win, Burrell came up big in his last at-bat (although that would have been gone on most nights which would have been even better), and Lidge remained perfect to secure the title. Stuff storybooks are made of. Great stuff.

As for Burrell, it’s apparent he wants to come back. Check out one of his quotes from last night:

“Who knows what’s going to happen,” he said. “It’s going to be hard for me to walk out of this town.”

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2008/news/story?id=3672091

  177. Phil @ This Week in Philly Says:

It’s nice to wake up in the morning and find that it wasn’t all a dream.

I can still remember the 1980 World Series win involving some of the powerhouses in Phillies history who will be remembered always.

I can remember the heartbreak in 1993.

I can remember all of the failures in between.

This 2008 season was about the rockiest ride to a championship of any team in sports that I can remember. Practically every member of this team had to face some adversity this year, as well as the coach, and yet they shook off all of the (deserved) criticism in true Philly-grit fashion and brought our fine city a World Championship in one of the “Big 4″ sports.

    What a beautiful thing.

    ~Phil

  178. NC Jason Says:

Jamie I also noticed Pat’s comments these stood out to me..

“We play in a tough-ass town, and I’m proud of that,” Burrell said. “I’m proud to say I play here and behind this city. Just for the fact that they’ve been behind me. I don’t think anybody in here understands this city and the way [it thinks] more than I do. To be able to hand this over to them, this is as good as it gets.”

  179. Georgie Says:

haha, I just remembered I promised (months ago) to kiss Don M’s upbeat ass if the Phillies won the WS.

  180. NC Jason Says:

I think somewhere on Broad St. might be a good spot. I hear there might be a few people there tomorrow.

  181. NJ Says:

Georgie you better go kiss Don’s ass now, can’t phuck with karma

  182. Jamie Says:

On a funny note, I was just watching the end of the game again (okay, call me compulsive, but I can’t stop watching it!). I saw Burrell rush the field. My question is…

Why can’t he run that fast on the bases? Geez, that guy just explodes from the dugout for these celebrations. If he had that kind of jump on pitchers, he’d steal 40 bases a year. Okay, maybe not!

  183. Georgie Says:

I wonder if Don prefers lipstick or a nice gloss, I can’t do it with naked lips!

  184. mikemike Says:

Isn’t don getting married this weekend.

  185. D. Young Says:

Just read on mlb.com the appeal is scheduled for 4:00 today.

  186. Rob Says:

    Yes. We. Did.

    Billy has no friends.

  187. Georgie Says:

mikemike, don’s getting married Saturday, I remember because that’s also my birthday, so I’ve already got my present—–

    PHILLIES ARE WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!

Trolls are so funny, they think anything they say could wipe the smiles off our faces for even one second?

  188. S.D. Jones Says:

Vote for Cole in this poll:

    http://www.sportsfanlive.com/web/poll?pollId=6767713

  189. Cole Says:

    BOOOOOOOO !

    BOOOOOOOO

F-EM ALL You still have to live in Philly

    Go Giants

  190. mikemike Says:

Dear cole thank you for your kind words. Hope eli breaks both his legs. your classless ass.

  191. Baseball Fan Says:

Just ignore the anti-phillies fans. Think of it this way, all the other teams have more work to do to win the world series in 09 than the Phillies. Who is going to stop them from getting there again? The chocker Mets, The can’t win a game in the post season Cubs? The few games over .500 west division champions? The Sabathia less Brewers?………………………………… I am not seeing anyone !

  192. Phillies Phan SC Says:

Regarding the appeal, it is all BS. Google it, the ONLY ones writing about it is US. XM was taking a call from a Rays FAN, not Joe Maddon.

  193. Adam Says:

So much for all of those “bad feelings.”

I told all of the nay-sayers that they were making far, far more of the Monday-night debacle than was necessary.

Not only did it work to their advantage just as I said – but it proved that the BEST team won and won it in five at that… much to the chagrin of our “honorable” Commissioner of Baseball.

Anyway… While there were nothing as silly as tears here – It was certainly as good as I remember it being back in ‘80.

    Fantastic job Phils… Can’t wait until ‘09!

  194. E Paul Lian, Scottsdale, AZ Says:

One other thought….a few days late. Many of you know Chris Coste is my main man on the Phillies roster. I must give credit to Carlos Ruiz tho’, for an outstanding World Series. Carlos had several clutch hits, handled his catching duties flawlessly and was obviously a BIG part of the Series’ championship. Congratulations Carlos on being a GREAT team player and a fine catcher ! Lets go Phillies….everybody loves a CHAMPION !!

  195. Green Man Says:

Phil and others. Anyone with pics of Green Man near City Hall after Game 5, I would to have them e-mailed to myself (Green Man) @ GreenMan.Phillies@gmail.com.

    Thanks,
    Ed
