I’m the biggest Phillies Fan Contest Update

As the hours count down to Game 1, so too does the window on submitting entries to the “I’m the Biggest Phillies Fan” Contest. Entries will stop being collected after the final pitch of tonight’s game.
Before you read some of the real compelling ones, please note this official announcement: Phillies Nation is officially not giving out the World Series tickets as the grand prize. This is due to a cease and desist letter delivered today by Major League Baseball Advanced Media. Sooooo, in light of the alleged breach of license, we will instead be offering the winner 2 tickets to a super exclusive Phillies Nation tailgate party on Sunday night. The party will feature giveaways which are guaranteed to be equally as awesome as 2 tickets to Game 4.
With that out of the way, here are a few of the good ones (finalists will be announced tomorrow):

I work in New York City. I live in New York City. I was born in New York City. I am a die-hard Fightin’ Phillies fan. Weird huh? It happen in 1976. I was in Philadelphia on a class trip and fell in love with the city, right away. That summer (’76) my Uncle took me to a Mets/Phillies double-header and I watched ‘The Bull’ hit a Grand Slam, and from that moment I was hooked with the Phils.
Now think about the torture I endured as a kid in NYC, wearing Phillies gear. Surrounded by Yankee/Met fans. I was always able to make my team sets (Topps) with the Phillies, cause I would trade away all the Yanks/Mets cards for my Fightin’ Phillies.
Now modern day, I work for the Dept. of Sanitation. I’m the only Phillies fan on the job. 5000+ employees got to abuse me for my first 8 years on the job, but the last 2, I’m able to talk a little bit.
I did predict the Phillies to make Fall Classic, I picked my vacation weeks back in January. My shop steward said I was nuts to give up summer vacation for an October vacation and called my reasons hopeful thinking…now he asks me for lotto numbers.
What makes this a lot sweeter, is that my wife is a die-hard Met fan. Nothing would be greater in winning these tickets and getting out of NYC and away from my wife.

I have been a fan my whole life. The first picture is me in first grade when we won the World Series. I was such a Phanatic the principal let me come to school in my gear and give out red candy to the whole school. Currently I teach Kindergarten and I turn every class into fans. We talk about never giving up like Chris Coste and to always believe like Tug. Every day I wear a Tug McGraw baseball bracelet on one wrist and a rosary bracelet on the other. I tell people I like to represent both of my religions.
My dream in life became a reality this summer when I won the auction at the Phillies Phestival and got to dance on the dugout with Phanatic. My Dad is also a huge Phillies fan and gave me the set of glasses he got when they opened Veteran’s Stadium. I’ve been waiting for the World Series to drink out of them. I’m so excited.
Above my fireplace in my living room is a picture of Richie Ashburn. Although I never saw him play I loved him as an announcer and went to Cooperstown to watch him be inducted into the Hall of Fame. What a great experience.

I just returned this month from serving overseas in support of Operation Enduring Freedom..I followed the Fightin’ Phils the whole time..I was constantly challenged as a woman and a Philly Phan..and ALWAYS came out on top in answering questions (like the line up, last time we won WS). Now that I am home, I would give anything to see my boys play and WIN! They supported me and now it’s my turn to support them! Go Phillies!!!

The phillies have been my #1 team my entire life. I am 27, but i will always cherish the moments as a kid, cheering on my favorite player, #20 Michael Jack Schmidt. Before my mom and dad split, when i was 9, my best memories as a child was going to the ballgame with my dad, and the family nights every 4th of july fireworks show. Ive been to some of the most landmark games out there, from the Terry Mulholland No-Hitter, to the Phillies-Brewers game, where the late Cory Lidle pitched a gem, and we scored 9 runs, including a home run by Lidle himself. I might not have a shrine of collectibles, but i have a shrine of memories. I dont miss a game, either on tv, or radio. I cried the day Schmidtty retired, and i even remember the song they played, Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler. I cried the day we won the NL in ‘93, and i cried when we won it in 2008. I put my mind and soul in this team, i love them like no other. I still have my phillie phanatic stuff doll when i was very young, i still have my mini phillies batting helmet i got as a kid at baskin robbins, when they put sundaes in them, and you got to keep the helmet. I have my ‘93 catch the fever pennant. One of my first baseball cards i ever collected was a ‘88 Bruce Ruffin baseball card. I met when i was young kid countless phillies, ones that no one would remember, young pitchers who had a dream of being a phillie like Pat Combs. I met the Krukker. Incy, Eisey, and Dutch. I will always remember the first time i set foot in the Vet, seeing the green turf, and watching them dismantle the Montreal Exbos. I never had season tickets, but i been to over 200 games. My sister and I have a tradition. She is an Orioles fan, when the O’s play here, i but the tix, when the Phils play in baltimore, she buys the tix. My sister has a picture of me, when her and I went to the Baseball Hall of Fame, the weekend Cal Ripken Jr and Tony Gwynn went in, and all i did was run and hug the Phillie Phanatic they have there, in its glass case, i still hugged it, just like i hugged the Phanatic when i was 6, and he came to the summer camp i was at. I guess i can say the Phillies arent just a sports team to me, but they are a big part of my life, they bring back the good memories of my rough childhood, and its something i will always cherish, and i will bleed phillie red til the day i leave this world. GO PHILLLLLLLIES!!!!!!

I am not the biggest or the best phillies phan. I spend much of my time beneath notice and hardly worth the effort. I only have 9 Phillies shirts and have only followed the team since birth. No, since inception. While I had good motility, I cheered for the “fightins” but I do not have any pictures to share.
I was young as child until I grew older. I would often get beat up in my neighborhood because I insisted on being Steve Carlton while I pitched. Since I am not left handed, I tended to throw sideways. I was fired from whiffle ball pitching and was relegated to the outfield where I would pretend to be the “Bull”. There I refused to move and insisted on having the center fielder get everything. My friend did NOT like being called “Bake”
I only had partial season tickets to the Vet for about 3 years and I don’t own any of those seats. My only claim to fame is giving the Phanatic a high five in a mall. I tried to do the same with the mummers but security escorted me out.
I wish each of you substantially better fans a good world series.

My, name is Chelsea Waraksa, and me and my Boyfriend Charlie Steele are HUGE Philly Phans! He has been a die hard fan since always. He was actually a bat boy for the Reading Phillies, when Brad Lidge was playing for them. We have been together for 5 happy years. We have been living together for 3 years. If he had it his way, the entire apartment would be decked out in Phillies stuff. He has this Phillies hat that is absolutely disgusting, but he thinks it is “good luck”. He got it last year when they were going to the World Series. He gets a new one every year. But he thinks this hat is good luck, he wears it to every game we watch. We would GO CRAZY if we got to see the Phillies play in the World Series. I would be the best girlfriend in the world if I could give him this gift. I would never live it down. It would really mean so much to us to see our Phillies. Please let me give this gift to my boyfriend, he means the world to me and I would do anything for him. I hope you consider us. We will do anything …well maybe not anything. But we would do a lot, I know he would. Thank you for your time, and GO PHILLIES!!!!!
