Game 1 : National League Championship Series
Los Angeles Dodgers at Philadelphia Phillies
Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia
8:22 p.m. / 63, clear
Derek Lowe (14-11, 3.24 ERA) vs. Cole Hamels (14-10, 3.09 ERA)
Cole Hamels suits up and takes the mound in game one of a best-of-seven to determine champion of the National League. He’ll be opposed by 35-year-old right-hander Derek Lowe, who went 3-0 in four starts in the 2004 postseason, and is 6-4 in 19 postseason appearances.
It’s the first NLCS at Citizens Bank Park, the first series of its kind for the Phillies in 15 years, and just the seventh NLCS appearance in franchise history.
News & Notes
Only three Phillies have hit home runs off Lowe: Pedro Feliz, Matt Stairs and Chris Coste. … Matt Kemp and Juan Pierre (.333) are the only Dodgers hitting over .250 against Hamels. … Of the seven NLCS appearances in franchise history, the Phils have met the Dodgers in four of them. … The Dodgers pitching staff gave up just 123 home runs in 2008, tops in baseball. … They also gave up just 259 doubles, also tops in baseball. … Despite the great starting pitching ERA, the Dodgers had 79 quality starts, good for 14th in baseball. The Phillies were fifth (88). … Regular lineup tonight — funny, the Opening Day lineup has come full circle.
The Lineup
Jimmy Rollins / SS
Shane Victorino / CF
Chase Utley / 2B
Ryan Howard / 1B
Pat Burrell / LF
Jayson Werth / RF
Pedro Feliz / 3B
Carlos Ruiz / C
Cole Hamels / P
Your Gamenight Beer
It’s October. Time for Harpoon Octoberfest. A refreshing blend of caramel and hops, its — I sound like a commercial. Listen, it’s a good beer. Drink up, Phillies fans. It’s the NLCS. It’s here. Let’s watch intently and be the best fans we can be. Enjoy in the company of many, and eat party food: wings, chips, etc. Or, if you’re at the park (why are you reading this?), eat a Dodger fan. That’ll show ‘em.
Go Phillies!

You posted this blog prematurely. Game time isn’t for 2 and a 1/2 hours. I can’t f*cking wait. I got a 6 pack of “blackbeary” beer and a growler of Dock Street “Docktoberfest” ready to go. GO PHILS!
October 9th, 2008 at 5:43 pm
I like that lineup.
Vic batting second with the Werth-A-Nator batting 6th.
The game is starting a little late for me but i’ll try get the first inning in.
October 9th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Game on! Go Phils!
I’ve got some Sierra Nevada Anniversary, and my Dodger friend coming over to watch the game with me. I hope in a few hours I’ll be the one crowing!
October 9th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
just took a muscle relaxer just to kill some time before cole tosses the first pitch, cant wait
October 9th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
I’m at work right now, I get off at 7 and the anticipation is killlllllling me! They say March Madness is the #1 sports event for lost work production: F That, the Phils in the playoffs is number 1…haha! Go Phils!
October 9th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
F*ck NCAA basketball. October baseball is the most exciting thing in sports every year. More exciting than the super bowl, march madness, and the NBA finals. Post season hockey is a close 2nd, but I’d still take October baseball over anything.
October 9th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
I can tell already that these 8:22 starts are going to be torture with waiting.
October 9th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
LA swept the Cubs, including two at Wrigley Field. Sweet.
Philadelphia spent all year playing BEHIND the Mets, and was often close with Florida, the lowest-paid team in the league.
They couldn’t even sweep the hapless Brewers in the NLDS. That’s just sad.
Just like fans of the woeful Cubbies, I suspect the “front runners” at whatever Philly’s new ballpark is called will be crying in their Coors tonight, and for the next three games as well.
LA in four!
October 9th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Go Blue…you are so dumb you don’t even know how to type the acronym NLCS properly. The Cubs are post season choke artists. If you watched baseball at all you’d know the team with the best record in baseball history didn’t win the WS. You can’t judge anything on how good a team is. Secondly, we never chased Florida. Only the 1st month. You spent most of the year chasing the D-Backs who were horrible. It took you 2 big trades to catch them, one of those trades being for the best hitter of our time. Don’t come to a Phillies board and talk sh*t you moron.
I posted that in another thread. I’d like to add that we beat CC Sabathia who is better than any pitcher the Dodgers have, we don’t drink Coors because that’s a white trash Republican beer(read the beers we post for gameday on this site to get an idea), and the Rays are the 2nd lowest paid team in baseball, so you should really think about things before you say them. The Dodgers spent the season playing the worst trash in the NL all year to barely have a .500 record. Stop saying the dumbest things possible on here. Go troll somewhere else.
October 9th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
not to mention that the mets florida and brewers all had better records than the dodgers stupid
October 9th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
haha true JM. If the Marlins were playing in the NL West they would have had a record of 100-62.
October 9th, 2008 at 6:26 pm
Mine as well break this down for his futile little mind too.
RuizLoney
Utley>DeWitt
Rollins=Furcal
FelizLowe
Myers=Billingsley
Moyer=Kuroda
Blanton=Kershaw
Phils pen=Dodgers pen
Lidge>Broxton
I’d say it’s kind of a wash, but he can keep trying to say the Phillies suck if he’d like.
October 9th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
“…I’d like to add that we beat CC Sabathia who is better than any pitcher the Dodgers have…”
Better than Derek Lowe (15-11, 2004 WS ring-wearer)?
2008 NLDS Game one winner?
Soon-to-be NLCS game One winner?
October 9th, 2008 at 6:28 pm
We also didn’t spend most of the year chasing the Mets – we spent the most days in first place.
October 9th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Go Blue, you obviously haven’t paid attention all year. The Phillies were in first place for 70+ games this season in a division with 2 other difficult teams in the Mets and Marlins.
Past wins don’t make any impact on what happened this season.
Then again, most opposing trolls who talk smack here really don’t pay attention to begin with.
October 9th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Yes, Go Blue. CC Sabathia is WAY better than Derek Lowe.
October 9th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
Go Fightin’s !!! Let’s be patient, get some guys on base, and wait for that sinker to stay belt-high… gotta make it count with small-ball and runners in scoring position!!
October 9th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
I hope that Milt taught these guys how to bunt and move runners over. I am so sick of this disgraceful lack of small ball.
October 9th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
It’s funny how the past few years, since the Phillies have become competitive, I’ve learned to hate the fans of almost every other team out there. I’ve always had nice things to say about Dodgers fans, Red Sox fans — long standing fan bases with tradition and a true appreciation for the game. Now that the Phillies actually win games all of the front running internet homos come out of the woodwork to talk goofy shit on messageboards.
Where are all the Rays fans in this joint? Is the trolling only limited to teams that have New Era’s in 12 different colorways and you see in hip-hop videos?
October 9th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
And so begins the longest hour of my life…
October 9th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
The first beer has been cracked open… I am watching the clock tick… tick… tick…
October 9th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
Man, it is torture waiting….
October 9th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
Apparently there are still available tickets for the NLCS at Dodgers Stadium. Can you believe that?
October 9th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
LETS GO! Lets do this.
October 9th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
You rock blue.
October 9th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Wow, how cool is it that they had Harry do the Fox opener?
October 9th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Was that a Dodger troll or Manny Ramirez?
October 9th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Hey for you all you guys out there, LETS GO PHILLIES. How can you hate me? Told you I wouldn’t be gone after the Mets were out!
October 9th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
Mark Grace can go to hell. Let’s get this started already.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
We threw stuff at Mark Grace? He must have talked to JD Drew about those D cell Batteries
October 9th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
Wow, can’t believe someone is picking the Phillies to win it.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
All I can say to you Phillies phans….good luck with the Dodgers. Also,I can’t believe Dodgers and Red Sox fans are talking smack.Blue, just remember…….the NL East with the Amazins and Anchovies made it a tough division to win,and the NL West was a virtual joke, everyone knows that. All 3 teams in the NL East didn’t trade for an impact player like CC and Manny Baseball. If Both Dodgers and Brewers didn’t get CC or Manny,Dodgers and Brewers fans would be sitting home with nothing to say. Red Sox fans, worry about the Rays b4 killing the Phils.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
Lets get this game started!!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Grrumpy is right so go f yourself dodger fans
October 9th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
This will be the longest 7 minutes of my life.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
I HATE Tim Mccarver
October 9th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Me too Phils in 6…me too
October 9th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Love Citizens Bank Park on a beautiful night. Looks so great. Wish I was there.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
I wish the radio was synced up but with the hd feed it’s absolutely horrible. Tim McCarver is a douche and so is Joe Buck
October 9th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Agreed Brian. I’d love to listen to Kalas, LA, and SF call the game.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Whoah, check this out
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8658944/FOX-FEEDS
October 9th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
GAME TIME BABY!
October 9th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
ugh
October 9th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
F*CK MANNY RAMIREZ!!! Why didn’t Charlie walk him?
October 9th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
Manny is just cash.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
I need to crack open a beer. This is stressful.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
It’s ridiculous that in just a matter of minutes Manny has been an impact.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
Go MANNY!!!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
Hahaha how funny is that the Dodgers had the 15th best record in baseball.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Yes, and they are going to the World Series!!
October 9th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
yikes
October 9th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Wow this is not looking good…2nd and 3rd with a good right handed batter up.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
this inning is killing me
October 9th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
Go Dodgers…..the Dodgers ARE going to win? Thats GREAT! And of course, you have valid proof of that.Show us the proof oh swami.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
Good job of limiting the damage.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
Could’ve been a lot worse. It’s only the first inning. Let’s get ‘em back.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
The Phils really need to answer here so Cole settles down and starts getting easy outs!
October 9th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
guys, just ignore the trolls. you’re only egging them on.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
Gotta get Rollins or Victorino on base. Lowe has a slow delivery and can be run on.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
anyone else already sick of these announcers?
October 9th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
At least we got to hear Harry.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
atta boy chase!
October 9th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Good sign from utley
October 9th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
That was a great “crack of the bat” sound. Those are the kind of hits we want from Chase.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Mike…saw your post on NLCS tix available.Dodgers fans are not exactly the heartiest of fans and yet they don’t even care.I went to Dodgers Stadium in 2006 and I was surrounded by 100 fellow Amazins fans. The 1st 3 innings,no Dodgers fans in sight.2nd 3rd inning is when it is full, the last 3 innings, the place empties because they don’t want to get stuck on the freeway.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Well I have to say it: “GO PHILLIES!!!”
October 9th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Not a strike ump c’mon
October 9th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Grumpy, watch what you say about Dodgers fans not caring. I said something to that tune earlier today and then all the sudden was berated by a guy who writes a Dodgers blog.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
I think it’s awesome that LA fans can show up here to talk shit when they were chasing the D’Backs for most of the year. It’s a good thing USC lost to Oregon St so that the front-running fans have something to do now other than wait for the Lakers to get their asses handed to them in the Finals again…
October 9th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Can Joe Buck root for the Dodgers any harder?
October 9th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
I would like to see Buck and McCarver do something other than talk about Manny Ramirez. Can’t Buck go do a football game?
October 9th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Good inning Cole
October 9th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Matty, it’s the same thing when Buck does football, except then all he can talk about is Brett Favre. He’ll also find several ways to bash Philly.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
Mike,I honestly can care less what anybody has to say.If its not face to face, than its a gutless attack.I don’t take what ANYONE has to say seriously.I was going back to my car at Chavez Ravine in my David Wright jersey, was boo-ed and told that I suck. Why? because I saw the Amazins take 2 of 3 from them.If I worried about what anyone had to say about me,I’d never leave the house. If people look at baseball that seriously,I’d tell them to get out more.ALSO,remember, the Dodgers roots are from Brooklyn, somewhere most people don’t have the guts to venture, and YES….I have passed thru Compton and South Central and left in one piece.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
Grumpy, I was half joking, but ok.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Nice at bat by Burrell. Time for Werth to get some retribution.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
damn your speed burrell!
October 9th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
lol……its all good :!
October 9th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
argh
October 9th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
I would’ve swung 3-0 as Werth. Charlie usually loves doing that.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
:-!
October 9th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Lowe doesn’t look that sharp tonight though. Gotta get to him.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Nice, even is Hamels doesn’t do anything at least we’re batting from the top of the order
October 9th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
McCarver-”Great play by Manny to hold Burrell to a single” LOL!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
come on Chooch… no GIDP!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
oh crap, i forgot about ruiz
October 9th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
Does this team not know what situational baseball is? WTF!?
October 9th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Howard’ defense is just awful!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
Howard shouldn’t be trying to backhand that. Gotta get full body in front of it.
Good job on Manny that time.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
OK, Lets see from here on out try to count how many times they say the F*ck-ing name MANNY? I am sick of hearing his name. Even when he is not up.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Jammed Manny! SWEET!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
We get it Buck, you love Joe Torre and Manny.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Hamels pitch count is too high. He shoulda been out of this inning already. God dammit Howard. Make it up with your bat.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
nice to see someone called metsfan talking baseball not berrating the Phils just for the sake of it, right with you on that bad haired premadona.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
NASTY STRIKE OUT!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Yeah, NJ…there have been a few Mets fans and they have been very respectful.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
They love Manny because he’s something easy and lazy for them to talk about instead of actually breaking down the game, Joe Morganitis.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Gotta create some havoc now.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
Phills need to start taking more pitches if they want Lowe to leave at all this game.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
J-Roll and Victorino have to be patient, they are flailing at the sinker like the Cubs did….
October 9th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
Can’t do much about those slicing doubles. Hate those kind.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Yes McCarver, nobody knows Manny got traded….
October 9th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
Cole’s gotta focus here… his count is starting to get up there
October 9th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
McCarver is an annoying son of a gun
October 9th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
October 9th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
I want the Phillies to win the world series! I want it to come from the NL EAST!! They have a great chance but they have to win game 1.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Ok, the big guys have GOT to get something going here.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Phils have to be patient this inning. Wait for the pitches to come to them…don’t force it.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Utley and Howard get on and Burrell hits a 3 run homerun right? Please?
October 9th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
well looks like the Phis are going to rely on the one big inning or nada for offense again.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
They have to work Lowe and get his pitch count up. The dodgers bullpen is not great. If the Dodger’s have to go to the bullpen the Phillies can get going here!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
It’s only the 4th. It feels like the 7th.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
carefun what you say metsfan, your bi-partisanship for the East may result in some sweaty dude from Staten Island breaking through your window to shank you for saying that.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Or not….
October 9th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Hey look Howard laid off a pitch.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
damn howard’s speed this time!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Some real good swings from howard
October 9th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Horrible…perfect example of what I said not to do…dive for a pitch with your bat. Way to go.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Cole’s in the dugout thinking “are these guys gonna get me any runs tonite?”
October 9th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
They could be walking alot this game if they take pitches Lowe throws alot of low sliders out of the strike zone that should be balls. He is staying out of the strike zone all night. Thats why he has only 1 strike out in this game. Walk! Get on base!!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Metsfan, sadly, is right. So too is annoying McCarver: why would Carlos Ruiz call for a high fastball when a high fastball is EXACTLY what the hitter is hoping for (vs. DeWitt)?
October 9th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
that was a strike dammit
October 9th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
Who are the Phillies pitching in game 4?
October 9th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
my guess is blanton
October 9th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
Here we go with McCarver and the word MANNY. McCarver and Buck shut the F**K Up with Manny and how great he is. I am sick of it!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
It is Blanton than back to Cole in game 5 if the phillies don’t sweep.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
I would bring Hamels back for game 4!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
Nice Strikeout!!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
He’s had enough rest recently, but still he has a record amount of innings on his arm already and counting. Though with Blanton’s track record vs. Manny (14/25 ab) Ethier 2/5 Martin 2/5, Nomar or Kent I would prefer a short rested Hamels.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
nice Chooch!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
HAMELS!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
2 out rally!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
they need to score NOW!!!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Rollins will ground out on the third pitch….
October 9th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Tell me Hamels and Myers will be the starters of trouble for the opposing teams this post season. Great start lets score this inning.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
please do something J-Roll… please!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
Atleast get 1 run this inning!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
correction… something good (ala base hit)
October 9th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
This is what I mean get Lowe out of the game!!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
damn!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
DAMMIT JROLL!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
WTF! Why is he trying to hit an opposite field home run? He’s not Ryan Howard.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Brutal, we need something I swear to god, Did the Phillies forget how to hit or something, Cole Hamels tried to do it himself but needs help scoring runs his main job is to prevent runs and he is doing a pretty good job. Phillies can win without scoring a run!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
Golden opportunity gone.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
i think all the time off between games and series doesn’t help our batters at all. they need the constant game time to keep it going, in my opinion.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
sweet DP!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Can Hamels go 7? That would be nice. Get him a few runs this inning boys!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Need the big bats to step up here work the count and get on base….it’s getting late and we’re wasting a pretty good outing from Cole here
October 9th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
he’s at 92 pitches already. i say throw him out there to start the 7th and at the first sign of trouble, get him some relief.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
At least it seems like they were hitting the ball a little harder off of Lowe that inning. Gotta carry it over with Victorino, Utley, and Howard.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
This is the inning Vic, Utley Howard, show them why you were the most feared hitters in the game during the regular season, dont look like Single A players making their first big league start. You wanted to get paid millions here your chance to show us why. Im really angry, The Dodgers are not that good. WE NEED SOME CLUTCH! Jesus Christmas Phillies its right there for you!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
I can’t believe we haven’t scored a single run against this pitcher… He’s good but not AS GOOD to have us with zero runs.
Please Phillies, step it up!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
I would like to see Vic get on here and get Lowe all riled up again. I can’t believe Phils fans didn’t have masks of Carolyn Hughes on their face for tonight…
October 9th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
I would agree but the Dodger’s had the same amount of days off. The Phillies look tight at the plate. I still have not seen many pitches from Lowe that is above the knees. If they keep swinging at pitches below the knees and grounding out they are going to lose this game. Phillies have to wakeup and start getting on base!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
That’s how you get an inning started!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
HELL YEA!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
yes Vic!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Good base running by VIC!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
That’s what we need
October 9th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Awesome!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
make an offering to JoBu… no DP!
October 9th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Will they try to walk Chase?
October 9th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
HOME RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!

October 9th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
F**KING RIGHT!!!!!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:01 pm
2 hard hits by Chase tonight! We need him doing this more
October 9th, 2008 at 10:01 pm
Great shot by Manny, Eitheier, Lowe, Torre, NO WAIT! that was one of ours… Aparently the Phils can play and it’s not a forgone conclusion the Dodgers will tear it up.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:01 pm
SWEEEEEEEEEEET!!!! That’s what Lowe gets especially after giving up hits to Hamels and Ruiz…thought Torre mighta known better.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Wasn’t it beautiful too to not hear Buck and McCarver as Utley rounded the bases. Let the sweet sounds of the crowd cheering take over.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Howard should not be swinging… he’s getting sliders below the knees! he should be waiting those out.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Gotta love the Citizen Bank Park Special! Let’s get some more runs!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
With all the MANNY, TORRE and YANKEES talk from them I forgot the Phillies were playing until Utley hit the HR!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
BRING IN MADDUX! He sucks in CBP!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
Walk Pat here and let Werth get some revenge.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
Exactly what I want to hear-”Chan Ho Park warming up”
October 9th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
Nevermind, let Pat hit out!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
PAT THE BAT!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
BURRELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
PPPPPPPPPAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
P the B!!!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
Here’s to that one big inning!!!!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
I think I woke up the neighborhood
October 9th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
BOO YA!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
PHILLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
RESIGN PAT THE BAT RIGHT NOW!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Me too Matty ,me too!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
New ball game!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Well you can manufacture runs or just plain tattoo the ball, heard one analyst today say the Dodgers will go around Howard and make Pat beat them, how’d you like them apples you bias knobjockies?
October 9th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
I knew that wasn’t cy fing young out there lets keep it going
October 9th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Pat has four homeruns in the postseason for us. (1 from last year) We should resign him.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
The look on Pat’s face was awesome. It was as if he was saying, “you damn right – and we’re going to be coming at you all series long, Dodgers.”
That place is ROCKING
October 9th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
I am not a Philly fan per say but would very much like to see the phillies advance to the ws. What a great play when victorino had the opportunity to wipe out Lowe at first base. Sportsmanship at its finest. You’ve got a winner there!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Lowe looks like someone just killed his puppy.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
How quickly things change, I think Lowe wishes Victorino would have knocked him out
October 9th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
Did anyone see the glint in Utley’s eyes in the dugout after talking to Dobbs? The most emotion of any kind that you’ll see coming from him. Dodgers owned us in this game and Shane goes and breaks their concentration. Let’s face it, the sweet Phillies are busters, (is that a pun). Always waiting to the latter part of the game to wake up and and let us breath every so little.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
It was great seeing Utley and Burrell take a curtain call too.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
Good way to back Hamel’s strong effort!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
Get us through one more Cole.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
Gotta give it to Blake…that was a great play.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
Just one more thing to add. Go Rays!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
I agree, Howard needs to stop swinging at those low balls… all he’s doing is getting groundouts.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
Thanks for the support Husker Brian
October 9th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Wow, I’m reading the comments over at DodgersThoughts and they really don’t know much about the Phils. They think Lidge had only one bullpen appearance and said our bullpen is not any good.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
All in fun!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
I almost had a heart attack!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
Hamels!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Hamels is at 100 pitches now… just 2 more outs please!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
HAMELS IS THE MAN!!! Let him pitch till the 8th if he wants!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
The Phillies better make it to the world series! My girlfriend is The PHILLIES fan. I can’t deal with her if they do not make it!!!! GO PHILLIES!!!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Manny, I’m am pulling for the phillies, I live in Seattle and Moyer was a mainstay here for years. Great guy, how does he still get guys out throwing slowpitch softball?
October 9th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
metsfan, we like your girlfriend already! Though that must be hard.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
This crowd is trying really hard not to boooooo this woman. Good job Philly!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Hamels is 15 ip with 2 ER in the post season thus far…sick. Do we have a new Josh Beckett/Curt Schilling on our hands?
October 9th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
… can we get Lauren Hart to sing for Game two?
October 9th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
That’s cool Husker. I really admire Moyer, he’s been great all year and he’s an asset to our team.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Husker, Moyer is also a Philly native, so there’s much love here for him also.
He’s a crafty guy. He just knows how to pitch. You don’t need to blaze fastballs by people to get them out. Just have to put it in the right spots with the right spin. For some reason, Moyer is one of the rare pitchers who subscribe to that philosophy and do it well.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Okay, has to be an eight inning by committee. Who pitches to Manny?
October 9th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
She wasn’t bad, Chase Mutley… They even joined her at the end! ha
October 9th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
If Cole Hamels was a banker he would put you through the ringer for trying to borrow money from his bank. Its stingy Cole with a lead, yaa
October 9th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Hey, Mr Met is pulling for the Phillies.
Lets go NL! Lets go NL East! The Phillies
are a scrappy bunch and their’s a lot of
Mets fans that respect that.
Good Luck!
-Mr Met
October 9th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Maddux on relief? That’s really bold
October 9th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Lets get some more runs!!!
PHILLIES!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
We smoked Maddox his first game with the Dodgers. Gotta get more runs here.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
that was not a strike!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
alright Chooch!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
SAFE!!! Damn right, Carlitos!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
You know what its like to be a Met fan and having to take your girl to a Philly vs. Florida game at Philly? And to please her by having to put a Phillies hat on my head? It was hard but it will be harder for me if the Phillies do not win. She is the biggest Phillie Fan I know.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Wow, did Taguchi screw that one up.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Taguchi sucks big time
October 9th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
dammit, they really shouldn’t have used Taguchi here
October 9th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
bunt must be on
October 9th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
what a waste of an inning, argh
October 9th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
He was safe dammit
October 9th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
All season long Taguchi smelled badly. Charlie coulda, woulda, shoulda Dobbs.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
lets see that dp in slo-mo
October 9th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Why not Dobbs? Why? Why? Why? They had no lefty in the pen at all, and yet you use Taguchi instead of Dobbs? Why? What’s the logic? Can anyone tell me? Anyone?
October 9th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
jimmy was safe
October 9th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
bad call
October 9th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
WHY SO? He is an awful hitter. Awful!!!!!!!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
And even if you don’t want to waste Dobbs yet, at least Jenkins or Stairs. I understand wanting to get an insurance run, just Taguchi usually comes up small in big situations for us.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
classic Charlie boneheadedness there. i just don’t understand.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
lighten up, we’re up
October 9th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
how are Madson’s numbers against Manny?
October 9th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
Madson had a huge K against Manny last time in Philly, I remember.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Well, why isn’t romero pitching to the ONE LEFTY due up here? Why even have him on the roster?
October 9th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
I liked the move to use Taguchi instead of Dobbs, it just didn’t work out. Besides, no one in their right mind would ever agree with Tim MacCarver (or however it’s spelled)
October 9th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Madson!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
McCarver just said Madson had the best changeup on the Phillies…ahh, no, that would go to Hamels
October 9th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Ok, does Madson face Manny or do we bring in Romero?
October 9th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
walk manny!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
WALK MANNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Hey Philly fans I’m out, thanks for letting me join your party. Talk to you later. After Manny strikes out!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
Well hey, that worked.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
Say whattttttttt!!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
NICE! one more out and then bring on Lidge!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
MADSON!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
ok i would have walked him NICE!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
if anyone knows how to get Manny out, it would be Charlie. woo
October 9th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
I’m surprised Feliz didn’t get that. He usually turns those.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Pete happy gotta move your feet dude
October 9th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Why no lefty here?
October 9th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Great inning by Madson!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Yes Charlie also knows how to bring in Taguch instead of Dobbs!i
October 9th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
some insurance runs would sure be nice!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Ok lets get a couple here and give Lidge a cushion
October 9th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vic, Utley, Howard: please get some runs in. I want to have nails in the ninth with Lidge.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
I like Madson, who has been fantastic for two months, but I am still shocked no lefty was used.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
Blake-DeWitt-Nomar(?) in the 9th. Lidge needs to handle them.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
I stepped away for a minute, did Manny really strike out?
October 9th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
Manny lined out first pitch to 3rd.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
he lined out to Feliz
October 9th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
Nomar scares me….I wish we had a bench, we have So Taguchi they have Nomar……Lets get some runs
October 9th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
VIC is going to get a triple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Least he made an out. I’ll be available in the 9th if you need me!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Looks like McCarver is playing a little pocket pool
October 9th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Forgot about Kemp
October 9th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
The next time McCarver makes a relevant comment I’ll eat my shorts!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
R-How with a bomb here
October 9th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Kemp-Blake-DeWitt
October 9th, 2008 at 10:42 pm

October 9th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Here we go.
Lidge.
Time.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Ok, finger nail biting time
October 9th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Wild Thing!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Holy shit…Now I’m freaking out… I have no nails left… and I may go into cardiac arrest with Mr Lidge on the mound.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
come on Lidge!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
please Lidge, make this somewhat easy – this is HUGE.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
i’m preparing for a tense 9th, but hoping Lidge goes 1-2-3… i’m asking for too much, i know
October 9th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
I say Lidge throws about 20 pitches this time.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
As long as manny doesnt come up again i think were good
October 9th, 2008 at 10:46 pm

October 9th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
Just in time for the Daily Show!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
Holy shit I think the Phillies just made me bipolar.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
nice call on the score Tim! Phillies!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
I’m happy to see how calm and composed this team was after the win. They know they have to take care of business. They got over the hurdle for the first win, lets hope it gives them some confidence.
I want this for Pat so bad!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
What percentage of Philly runs have come off HRs in the post season?
I don’t know if they can live off that to win the WS. You can’t argue with the results so far.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
F*CK YES!!!!!!!!! Hamels for Ashburn?
October 9th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
Who gets the Asburn? Hamels, Utley, or Burrell?
October 9th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
WHEW. i can finally exhale. what a great game, great win to start the series!! another outstanding start from cole, big hitting from two of the guys that we need it from the most, and great work by the bullpen. i’m loving every moment of this!!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Oh, Lidge would be a good one too. 1-2-3 inning.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Where is Go Blue? What happened to his Dodgers in 4 prediction?
October 9th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Burrell or Hamels for the Ashburn
October 9th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Anyone that said Dodgers in 4 is a god damn joke.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
Shane for Ashburn, he has been the spark plug of this team all year along and he did it again tonight!!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
With an error VA Steve.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
even with the error it was good baserunning and his speed that allowed it to happen
October 9th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Lowe was due to blow up though…he looked entirely way too uncomfortable the inning before
October 9th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Hamels was awesome. To give it to anyone else is a joke. To go 7 innings in that atmosphere facing that lineup throwing 7 very strong innings with 8 Ks and six hits. Just awesome stuff. 24 years old. What a talent.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
Nice job Fightings!!!! Fought through against a tough pitcher. Its nice to see Cole get a win with his team battling for him. Good sign for a great fighting bunch of Phils!!! Don’t know how i will sleep tonight, with the excitement, i guess i will start drinking heavily!!!!
GO PHILS!!!!!! LETS TAKE THIS THING!!!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
How about the Ashburn for the team?
I mean: Lidge, Victorino, Hamels, Utley, Pat…they were all huge in such a close game.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
I take my previous post back…I agree with you Kyle. Hamels definitely deserves it more. He has been amazing this year, and today was just stellar.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
The biggest thing I take out of this game was Utley getting 2 hard hits, one of which of course was his big homerun.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Pat the Bat 2-0 in Series winning hit. …It’s moving. He’s alive. He’s alive!
October 9th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Pat Burrell…Man or Machine?
October 9th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
My friend sent me this exchange from some forum in reference to the homeruns. Bunch of tick
An LA fan replies to a Phils fan who is boasting at our hrs off Lowe
LA Fan: “I can hit a homerun in that shoebox too”
Phils Fan: “Manny couldn’t”
October 9th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
hahahahahahahahaha good one SJ Mike!
October 9th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
I was thinking the exact same thing, Phil… haha
October 9th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
Where’s dbag Go Blue? Is he going to call for Dodgers in 5 now?
October 9th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Great game!
Game balls to Hamels, Utley, Burrell, Madsen and Lidge!
Let’s get ‘em tomorrow!
October 9th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
I am so freaking pumped right now. I’m leaving NYC at 10 in the morning to make sure I get there in time for game 2. Billingsley is nasty, but so was Lowe until we got him. I love this team, let’s do it!
October 9th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
Say goodnight Dodgers and see you tomrrow on the field, at the park, waving my towel. Sleep well fellow Phillies!
October 9th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
If we win tomorrow…we need one in LA….win it game 6 at home
October 9th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
one game at a time. it’s gotten them this far, they gotta keep approaching it the same way. much credit goes to charlie and dubee, they’ve got this team’s head in the game.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
Yeah, I definitely agree that we need game 2. Having to go into LA for 3 games in a row will make it tough.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
I’m leaving DC at 1…and I’ll be there waving my rally towel and losing my voice in Section 417!
