Your Gameday Beer

Tonight, we go back to Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. This earthy little brew is phenomenal. I love it. It’s bitter but beautiful in its taste. I’d eat a nice, fat cheeseburger and onion rings with it. Anything will do, really. Tonight it’s about Myers, getting the job done, setting up the offense for success, and giving the crowd a lot to yell about. Let’s get that 2-0 lead tonight and put the Dodgers on their backs. It’s the only way to live.

For The Gipper

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Charlie Manuel, who lost his mother today. He will manage the team today.

Go Phillies!

  1. NEPA Says:

Love seeing Dobbs in there. What a hitter.

  2. Craig Says:

ESPN are reporting that Charlie Manuels mother passed away last night / today.

  3. dan Says:

Good move throwing another lefty in the mix. Kuo only threw 15 last night but I think there’s a good shot we’ll get to see Beimel tonight. Go Phils!!!

  4. Evan Says:

Dobbs is a good choice, they need the offense to score runs in a couple different innings.

  5. Gary B Says:

Great Gameday Brew…it doesn’t get much better than a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Unfortunately with the economy, I’ll be drinking Miller Lite cans!

Myers has to go out and get’em tonight! Looking forward to it!

  6. Eamonn Says:

Aren’t the Phils 2-0 in day games in 2008? Games 1 and 4 vs. the Brewers…

  7. Tim Malcolm Says:

That’s the second time I’ve mixed up Brewers games. Yeesh. My head is spinning.

  8. Fred Says:

Condolences to Charlie over the loss of his mother.

  9. christopher Says:

my heart goes out to uncle chollie. RIP mrs. manuel.

  10. Go Blue! Says:

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Charlie Manuel, who lost his mother today. He will manage the team today.”

I’m a Dodgers troll, but that news truly does suck.

  11. CJ Says:

Am I a jerk to be worried that they are totally reliant on the long ball?

Or am I a jerk for other reasons?

  12. Gabriel Says:

only a few more minutes!!! lets go phils! i’m all aboard that redneck express! big game, big moment, big brett! looking at that lineup in billingsly eyes must be scary… all those power lefties… i wouldn’t be surprised if the bat has another gamebreaking hit… lets go phightin!!!!!!!

  13. Clare Says:

They just played the shit out of the Cubs while complimenting the Phillies and us (the fans). awesome!!!

  14. K T Says:

First of all I would like to pass along my sympathies to Charlie Manual and his Family…

    Now on to Baseball…

This could either fire up your team or make them depressed…I was expecting a split in Philly and this could ruin my plans

Good game last night…Game could have gone either way…looking for a different outcome tonight…Go Dodgers

  15. Georgie Says:

I know it may not be right or reasonable or logical, but I am always on pins and needles when Myers pitches.

Tim, you have really worked your butt off lately with all this great info, whose head wouldn’t be spinning?

  16. Gabriel Says:

ruin your plans?!?! i think it may have ruined uncle charlie’s day/week/month/year! when your mom passes i’ll offer my sympathies to you and then tell you it messed up my plans for a sporting event

  17. Rob Cowie Says:

Brian and I will be on hand for game two, adding in game tidbits as we see fit. I’m actually on the El now heading down and I know this kid is going to kill me for being late.

  18. Keith Says:

    Go Phillies!

  19. Chase Mutley Says:

“I know it may not be right or reasonable or logical, but I am always on pins and needles when Myers pitches.”

How could you do anything else?! Myers has been a question mark all season. He’s such a loose cannon that you never know what you’re gonna get.

For a million reasons, my anxiety level for this game is through the roof. Last game at home until 6, Pat’s birthday, Charlie’s mother, the pot of coffee I’ve drank at work — I hope the team takes a commanding lead early in the game. I can’t take much else.

  20. NEPA Says:

Well, first story line that Joe Buck brings up – ballpark dimensions.

  21. Michael S Says:

STOP TALKING ABOUT THE DIMENSIONS! Both teams are playing in the same park!

  22. Georgie Says:

So now it’s the ballpark’s fault that the Dodgers lost last night? Give me a break!

  23. Gabriel Says:

    hahah i hate buck/mccarver

  24. Brian Says:

Fireworks on a sunny day really don’t work

  25. Gabriel Says:

biemel looks like an ex-heroin user geez

  27. Gabriel Says:

    i love that curve

  28. NEPA Says:

Haha Gabriel – I was thinking something along those lines.

  29. NEPA Says:

    woah brett.

  30. Gabriel Says:

whoah indeed… now THATS pitching arouond the guy…

  31. Brian Says:

    settle down brett

  32. Keith Says:

yea Myers, strike that Manny out.

  33. Brian Says:

    Nice

  34. Gabriel Says:

is everyone else (besides cowie and brian) at work too? i HATE that i can’t have a beer right now!

  35. Gabriel Says:

whoo! best mascot in the game!!!

  36. NEPA Says:

hahaha, i hope im not the only one who laughed out loud at that phanatic shit

  37. Brian Says:

    That was pretty funny

  38. NJ Says:

    Hey was that Fanny Ramirez?

  39. Georgie Says:

No NEPA, you’re not alone there, the Phanatic cracks me up too.

  40. Tim Malcolm Says:

I laughed aloud; everybody stared at me weirdly.

  41. Chase Mutley Says:

Listening on the internet, what’d the Phanatic do?

  42. NEPA Says:

the Carlos Ruiz and the Howard impressions had me dyin.

  43. christopher Says:

for myers, coming out with a 1st inning like that is huge.

  44. Brian Says:

He mimed the starting lineup for the fox set up

  45. Josh Says:

Time for Howard to step up and do something. Let’s get something early on this guy!

  46. Gabriel Says:

howard better not swing at a single pitch his next time around…

  47. Matty Says:

Is Dave Kingman dead? If he is, did he reincarnate himself in the form of Ryan Howard? If he isn’t, is he Howard’s personal hitting coach?

  48. Gabriel Says:

wow i cant believe nobody scored on that one…

  49. Georgie Says:

    Haha, Dave Kingman!

  50. Gabriel Says:

telegraphing his pitches… two 0 – 2 counts and all three 3rd pitches were breaking balls… mix in the high heat brett!!! nice strikeout…

  51. Gabriel Says:

he only gave up 1… i’ll take it… but damn billingsly with the bat…

  52. Matty Says:

I would like to see the bottom of the order do something here….

  53. Paul Says:

Minor victory to only give up 1. Time to get it right back.

  54. Gabriel Says:

    here we go dobber!

  55. Keith Says:

    yes, a hit!

  56. Gabriel Says:

    vamanos carlos!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  57. Paul Says:

Come Ruiz, at least turn the lineup over.

  58. Keith Says:

    RUIZ!!! lol yea baby.

  59. Matty Says:

    YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  60. NEPA Says:

What a hitter Dobbs is. And did not see that coming from CHOOCH.

  61. holly Says:

    Yes Ruiz!

  62. christopher Says:

    there you go ruiz!!

  63. Georgie Says:

Matty, the Phillies Phever Cowbell Remix is a riot, I have a Phillies Fever t-shirt from 1980, and I”ve been trying to remember that song, thanks for the memories.

  64. Paul Says:

    Even BETTER!!! Well done Ruiz!!!

  65. NEPA Says:

    MYERS! wow

  66. Josh Says:

    YEAH CARLOS!!

  67. Matty Says:

    I just peed a little

  68. Keith Says:

    Myers!!!! yahoo lol.

  69. Craig Says:

    Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

Myers and Ruiz the RBI machines

  70. Brian Says:

    How bout Myers!!

  71. holly Says:

    oh my god!

  72. NJ Says:

Carlos Whoiz? Great job by the ‘kid’

  73. christopher Says:

    HOLY CRAP BRETT

  74. NJ Says:

I think the word Myers used to describe his hitting after the Sabathia duel as terrible, maybe some guys just hit better in October…

  75. Josh Says:

Myers is on fire at the plate!

  76. Dave Says:

No one can stop the offensive presence that is Brett Myers.

(Serious condolences to Charlie and his family)

  77. Keith Says:

    Rollins! yay.

  78. NEPA Says:

NICE, watching brett myers run is painful

  79. Gabriel Says:

    come on big inning!!!!!!!!!!!!

  80. Craig Says:

Myers rounding the bases like a super tanker in reverse

  81. holly Says:

    great running jimmy!

  82. Gabriel Says:

2 out terrors!!!! lets go phils!

  83. Josh Says:

    C’mon Shane, keep this going!

  84. Keith Says:

VICTORINO!!!! 5 hits in a row with 2 outs, yea baby.

  85. NEPA Says:

Wow, who could have seen this coming with Ruiz and Myers left to continue the inning.

  86. holly Says:

this is that ONE big inning!

  87. Craig Says:

Oh this is a big big inning

You can just hear the commentators crying into their microphones.

  88. Gabriel Says:

“the key at-bat this inning was obviously brett myers” – nice commentary guys!

  89. Chase Mutley Says:

    This is amazing!

  90. Rob Cowie Says:

The Beat LA chant is intense here at the stadium

  91. Tim Malcolm Says:

Ruiz + Pitchers = Love from me.

  92. NEPA Says:

Yea, Rob, that sounded pretty deafening.

  93. Gabriel Says:

what was the general consensus? utley and howard had to heat up the bats? how wrong we all were…

  94. Gabriel Says:

is billingsly crying?! god i wish i had HD at work…!

  95. Paul Says:

I just blinked, and now it’s 4-1!? SWEET!!!

  96. Gabriel Says:

i really think he’s crying! hahahahah

  97. NEPA Says:

Chances of Ryan Howard seeing a fastball?

  98. Georgie Says:

He’s either crying or sweating under his eyes.

  99. Matty Says:

He’s only tearing up, no tears have streamed down his face yet, but they are about to. The black Adam Dunn is at it again…

  100. Josh Says:

    C’mon Howard, just get on…

  101. Paul Says:

    Crap Howard. Oh well… I’ll take a 4 spot.

  102. Go Blue! Says:

    “is billingsly crying?!”

    No.

  103. Gabriel Says:

    1 – jroll
    2 – shane
    3 – chase
    4 – brett myers
that’s the top of the order next time brett starts… hah!

  104. Chase Mutley Says:

I would be crying if I gave up hits to Chooch and the pitcher, just sayin’.

  105. Gabriel Says:

go blue, go home… troll your couch, not our blog baggadouche

  106. Keith Says:

yea, get that Manny out! :D

  107. NEPA Says:

damn, can’t give up more than 1 here. walks will kill ya.

  108. Gabriel Says:

come on dobber… u gotta make that play!

  109. Josh Says:

Oof, there’s the downside to starting Dobbs…

  110. NEPA Says:

YES. alright – great job there by myers limiting the damage.

  111. Keith Says:

    huge strikeout!

  112. Craig Says:

This is a pretty wild game

  113. Rob Cowie Says:

    Get feliz loose

  114. Josh Says:

There you go Brett, no big innings for them. Big strikeout there!

  115. Keith Says:

    nice bday hit for Burrell.

  116. Craig Says:

    Pat Ze Bat!

  117. NEPA Says:

    werth ripped that ball.

  118. christopher Says:

    JWERTH!

god i am loving this series so far. what great baseball.

  119. Keith Says:

there u go Werth!!! 7 guys with hits.

  120. Gabriel Says:

    yea 2 on nobody out!

  121. Craig Says:

Who’d win a 100 meter race between Pat and Brett?

  122. Keith Says:

    come on Ruiz!

  123. NEPA Says:

I would say Pat. That’s like 110 yards, Pat has to pick up some steam at some point I would hope.

  124. Gabriel Says:

ummm, brett another big single? haha lets see it!

  125. Gabriel Says:

    holy s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  126. NEPA Says:

    HOLY SHIT!

  127. Keith Says:

    Myers is a hitting machine!

  128. Gabriel Says:

my earlier post: brett better bat cleanup next time around!!!

  129. Craig Says:

    ‘Manny’ Myers does it again

  130. Josh Says:

Fear him at the plate. Myers is a beast!

  131. Evan Says:

I remember when he came back from the minors, one of his first games Meyers pulled out a real clutch double down the line and I thought he had a good approach, but I never saw that again till these playoffs!

  132. NEPA Says:

To quote Tim from his NLCS preview regarding Chan Ho Park:

“If he enters a game at the Bank, Joe Torre is having a problem.”

  133. Andy Says:

Brett Myers is the next Reggie Jackson

  134. NEPA Says:

    unbelievable baseball here.

  135. Craig Says:

chug chug chug chug as Myers rounds third..

  136. Keith Says:

    VICTORINO! triple love.

  137. Andy Says:

    STOMP STOMP STOMP

  138. Craig Says:

Ya know we’ve still only scored in 3 innings so far this series :O)

  139. Dave Says:

    Myers scored from FIRST!

    Wow!

  140. Josh Says:

Yeah, 2 out of 12 Craig!

  141. Josh Says:

    3 even!

  142. NEPA Says:

    Howard doesn’t stand a chance.

  143. NEPA Says:

That’s good – show Howard’s stats with the bases loaded when there’s only runners on 1st and 3rd.

  144. Craig Says:

Nice AB by Howard. Hopefully build a little confidence for the big fella.

  145. NJ Says:

The Phils are really rubbing it in tonight like an LA hooker, the Dodger players are probably pretty familiar with the feeling…

  146. Dan Says:

only two phils without hits- chase and Ryan

  147. Josh Says:

How about a big hit for Pat on his birthday here!

  148. Josh Says:

    Ah damn :(

  149. Ryk Says:

Left work early to catch the 2nd half of the game. 8-2? Seriously? That’s one of the sexiest things I have ever seen.

  150. Evan Says:

    that sucksssssssssssss

  151. Craig Says:

    Oh FFS

  152. NEPA Says:

Manny holding up 1 finger? Really? Lets calm it down – your gonna need another one of those just to tie it up.

  153. Keith Says:

    blah, hate Manny.

  154. Dave Says:

    ….. Dammit Brett!

  155. Rob Cowie Says:

    Well that sucked

  156. Joe Says:

    Manny can eat a ****

  157. Evan Says:

    Manny’s a douche

  158. NEPA Says:

And now Manny is yelling at Myers saying something along the lines of “all day!” This guy is a character.

  159. Craig Says:

Some needle between Manny and Brett.

I can see Brett taking Manny out any day of the week.

  160. Josh Says:

    That strikeout/wild pitch really hurt.

  161. NEPA Says:

If Manny is up with nobody on, 2 outs – I’d put him on his ass.

  162. Deb Mo Says:

    haha, wow.

  164. Keith Says:

    MYERS! again lol.

  165. Mike Says:

Wow, Myers pitching might be off today, but his hitting is money.

  166. isaiah Says:

whats up with jimmy….is he going to show up tonight?

  167. christopher Says:

pretty good inning for brett. nothing is going to be easy this series. these are two evenly matched teams. just gotta dig in and battle it out for this win!

  168. Georgie Says:

This is a really long game, I hope the fans keep their enthusiasm at the park, can’t let this one slip away.

  169. Keith Says:

    come on Durbin!

  170. Grrrumpy Miner Says:

I just got online today.God bless June Manuel.Whats worse is,not only a pressure packed game, but playing with a heavy heart for one of your own.To be here for 87 years,I need to paraphrase Jimmy Stewart She lived a wonderful life.

  171. Keith Says:

yea, get that Manny out again! :D

  172. christopher Says:

great piece of pitching durbin! just keep taking this game an out at a time.

  173. Georgie Says:

Yeah Miner, it’s gotta be tough for Charlie to concentrate, I admire him for carrying on.

My dad just turned 87 on Wed and he says every day he wakes up is a shock!

  174. Keith Says:

    great catch!

  175. christopher Says:

said it before, and i’ll say it again- victorino is the best defensive player i’ve ever watched in a phillies uniform.

  176. Brian Says:

Ok in my superstition I keep the radio on in my kitchen, after the last out in top of 7th I hear this exchange

Wheels: “I think the umpires are getting together to see if Victorino trapped that ball”

Harry: “No I think its for God Bless America”

Wheels is a jack ass but McCarver is far worse

  177. Chris C Says:

“McCarver is far worst”. That is the understatment of the year. If the good guys weren’t winning the games these playoffs would be unwatchable.

  178. christopher Says:

yeah the fox broadcasters have been terrible tonight. “this philadelphia crowd has gone from exuberance to concern,” cue the philly crowd going nuts chanting “BEAT LA!! BEAT LA!!”

  179. Brian Says:

    Madson is the man!

  180. christopher Says:

three outs to go. great job by the bullpen to get to lidge without any further damage.

    BELIEVE IN BRAD

  181. Evan Says:

Lets see Lidge do his job

  182. Keith Says:

    Lights out Lidge time

  183. Keith Says:

    2 outs to go

  184. Rob Cowie Says:

    This stadium is hype

  185. Keith Says:

1 out to go, come on Lidge!

  186. Keith Says:

    Phillies win! :D

  187. RiVLez Says:

WTF were they swinging at?!?!?! Half those pitches were like a foot off the plate and at the ankles. They suck.

  188. Ryan Says:

    YES LET’S GO PHILLIES!!!

If we win on Sunday that would be great.

  189. christopher Says:

what a start to this series. great, great baseball. i’m loving every moment of this!!

  190. Tim Malcolm Says:

After 7 there was nothing on the comments haha. Guess most of you were way too involved in the game — like me.

  191. Kyle Says:

Breathtaking, really. But as the goodphight points out, Ryan Madson has been awesome down the stretch. Ridiculous.

  192. Jp Says:

I know that the phillies are in a hitter friendly park, but mannys “hr” was the crappiest i have seen since it opened…no reason to be yelling at myers

  193. Rob Cowie Says:

Manny ramierez is a douchebag and should be treated as such

  194. Ryk Says:

Ya know, I actually have to agree with Joe Buck and/or Tim McCarver on something. They commented on Madson’s velocity improving of late and suggested it was because he went from a 2+ innung guy to a one-inning set up man. Less fatigue on his arm = stronger = more velocity.
So do the Phils sign this guy to a long-term contract, give him another 1-year deal, or let him go to arbitration. I’d lock this guy up. He has shown some incredible progress this year, and I think we have either a stud set up man, or a future closer on our hands. Sign him now and sign him cheap before he realizes his potential and wants tens of millions.
