great letter christopher.

yeah this guy needs a history lesson, and an a$$ whippin. Hopefully revenge will be served when either the Phils win the series or that "journalist" gets carjacked leaving the wheatgrass smoothie cafe.

"If I was President....
even for just one day....
I'd cut off Miami...
and throw it in fu*%ing trash with New York and LA"

A short e-mail I sent to our buddy Simers:

Hey look, a rambling, hackneyed, pompous sports "journalist," who has never been to Philadelphia, writing an article about the Phillies rehashing the same talking points he's read about for decades but never taken the time to fact check for himself. Have fun sucking down the most polluted air in the country while you call Philly, a beautiful city that puts LA's architecture and history to shame, dingy. You are a joke, you don't have an original bone in your body, and your mother, if she's alive, wishes you did something better with your life.

I think that's fair 'nuf! As I said, I have no problem with people ripping on Simers. Just be aware that he writes nonsense basically every other day. The only reason he's not ripped on more frequently in FJM is because he has Bill Plaschke as a colleague, as a distraction. But I understand what you mean.

Craig, I love New York city, don't get me wrong, just hate their sports in general. I have never been to LA, though I have many friends who have moved out there.

I have nothing against the Dodgers or their fans. I wasn't even born during our famous NLCS series in the 77, 78, and 83 (born December 83).

And if it is any consolation, we don't like Tim McCarver much either.

My knowledge on Simers was zero to none prior to reading this, and my point simply is that we deal with this kind of media treatment on a daily basis. You can't help but become defensive when this kind of "journalism" comes about.

Craig P, I 100% agree. I hate NY. Glad you are in understanding of why we are so angry.

SJ Mike, you said it best. This is a Phillies blog. Of course we are going to rip that @sshole to shreds for what he said in his article. I have nothing against the Dodgers or their fans at all, but I do have something against a douche bag anti-American who is going to say negative things about my fellow fans and myself.

I can't speak for Jon though I'm pretty sure he feels the same way, but as a Dodger Thoughts commenter and as I posted on another Phillies blog, while you're welcome to enjoy ripping Simers to shreds, the overriding point is I wouldn't take anything Simers says seriously at all. He is very often ludicrous in his pronouncements, and just generally a bad writer. No Dodger fans I know take him seriously at all, I know the Dodgers themselves find him incredibly annoying and smug (yes), and so I wouldn't waste too much time dissecting his nonsense. (But again, hey, if you enjoy it, knock yourselves out! ;-) ) I think Phillies fans here and Dodger fans on DT are both better/more knowledgable than Simers, and, heck, we have a game to play. Let's just enjoy it.

Simers never seems to enjoy much of anything. Sucks to be him.

Good luck!

Jon, you are reading too much into a relatively moot comment.

We are on a Phillies blog, so of course we are going to discuss Phillies related issues. It feels that by your nit picky logic that I should be writing about biases and clearing up stereotypes of all 30 teams' coverage.

I have never once said that there isn't this perception about Los Angeles and I know there is a lot of negative stuff being written about Manny.

The issue at hand is that we weren't discussing that, we were discussing TJ Simers' article. Do you disagree that what he said was smug and stupid? Because you seem to make it seem like what I was saying was that Dodgers fans were smug and stupid, which I certainly wasn't.

Mike, I tend to doubt you're reading many positive things about the Los Angeles sports culture.

Phil, there's more to Los Angeles than Hollywood.

Anyway, my only point is that if you don't like stereotypes, don't dish 'em out either.

Here's to a great series.
