NLCS Schedule: Leave Work Early Friday
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Mon, October 06, 2008 10:04 AM
The tentative NLCS schedule has been released. Rumblings about an early Friday start?
Game 1 - Philadelphia - Thursday - 8:15 p.m.
Game 2 - Philadelphia - Friday - 4:15 p.m.
Game 3 - Los Angeles - Sunday - 8:15 p.m.
So there you go. (Note: From Todd Zolecki’s notes. Things may change depending on the AL series.) Doesn’t really make sense to me that Friday’s game is at 4:15. Fox will lose the entire West Coast audience so TBS can have — likely — a Boston and Tampa audience for primetime? Ridiculous.
And Sunday’s game can’t be earlier? Like 6:15?
I was hoping that with the LCS I wouldn’t have to find some way to avoid working during a game. Ugh. Thanks, Major League Baseball.

no no no, whats with 4:15 on friday. I wont be home till 630
October 6th, 2008 at 10:30 am
God damn Boston and their large audience
October 6th, 2008 at 10:31 am
Cheer for the Angels then…
October 6th, 2008 at 10:34 am
Honestly if this is true, this will be the first time I can ever remember a CS game being on when people are working. There must be another example but I can’t think of it.
October 6th, 2008 at 10:44 am
Who ISN’T cheering for the Angels?
October 6th, 2008 at 10:51 am
What does the MLB have against me going to games? Looks like I have to butter up the boss to get out of here early on Friday.
October 6th, 2008 at 10:52 am
it may only be a 13 inch non plasma, non LCD, regular ass old school sylvania TV…. but it’ll get me FOX, friday at 4:15!!!
October 6th, 2008 at 10:54 am
depending on how close the game is i may finish watching it here at work (i have like, a half hour ride home depending on the broad st traffic)
October 6th, 2008 at 11:04 am
Don’t Philadelphia + LA = bigger markets than Boston + Tampa St. Pete ????
That is Horseshit that they would screw us with another early game like that
The only good news is that its not official yet, but that blows if its at 4:15 on Friday.. and I guess they want late-sunday games so they dont have to compete with too much Football
October 6th, 2008 at 11:05 am
Tim, are you going to do another break down team for team like you did against the Brewers?
October 6th, 2008 at 11:10 am
yes tim… please give me a 20 part series, i dont care if you have to go into comparing players socks (up or down, stirrup even?) just please give me something to read until thursday!
October 6th, 2008 at 11:13 am
Agreed Gabriel. I’m sad I have to wait till Thursday for baseball.
October 6th, 2008 at 11:13 am
Don M I agree, once again the Phillies are the forgotten team. 4:15? That would be fine say 55 years ago, but come on! How pissed would we all be in we were Dodger fans? A 1:15 game?
October 6th, 2008 at 11:14 am
if the angels win, what are the odds the Friday time changes?
October 6th, 2008 at 11:16 am
NC…. most people in LA are unemployed wannabe actors.. and, although they don’t own TV’s or furniture…. wait, nevermind I was going to go on-and-on about how LA is a scumbag city, but Ive never been there, so I can’t really say.
This is the problem with them having the dates picked out ahead of time.. we already know which days the WS will be on too, no matter which teams are playing in it.
I couldn’t care less that the National Media forgets about the Phillies.. I’d rather hear CSN instead of ESPN insights anyway.. but don’t screw us at make the game unwatchable for a good amount of people.. Im getting married in less than 1 month now, and I’m saving vacation time for that wonderful trip to Acapulco DON’T THEY TAKE THAT INTO CONSIDERATION !!?? Those pricks..
October 6th, 2008 at 11:18 am
Crap. I am on the West Coast, and I definitely will be at work at 1:15 on Friday.
UGH…
October 6th, 2008 at 11:18 am
this is true Jason, but they must be used to this bs on the west coast
October 6th, 2008 at 11:29 am
Don, congrats on your upcoming wedding, welcome to the wonderful world of the no longer single (insert sarcasm if you wish, I’m not saying). It is very rude of MLB to not take your plans into consideration, though.
We are having an 87th birthday party for my dad on Sunday. His birthday is actually Wed, and I tried to schedule it for then because I knew there was no game, but it didn’t work out, so it’s at 5pm, hoping the old folks will be wiped out by 8pm, just in time for the game.
October 6th, 2008 at 11:31 am
donny you’re tying the knot? congrats brotha!
i’d rather hear CSN or ESPN over the nerds they hired at TBS…
is TGIF still that big that playoff baseball cant compete? i thought they took step by step off the air years ago! damn that patrick duffy…
October 6th, 2008 at 11:35 am
Lets help Tim get his series breakdown going. The Phils are up against the Dodgers… AND the baseball media. Maybe the Dodgers are the superior team but I just hate the way the baseball media as a whole shifts from the ‘popular’ to the next popular pick and suddenly guys like Ethier and Loney go from being very good ballplayers to stars in their eyes only for them to turn on them once that team tanks it on the field. Fukodome, the writers were loving him and now he’s a bust.
It’s clear already where the favour of the baseball media lies in this series and I ‘m hoping the White Sox stun the AL as a team not loved by those moronic sychopants…
October 6th, 2008 at 11:37 am
I think it is also crap that in the event of a series sweep the winning team could be off for another week - or more - if the other series goes 7 games because the dates are not flexible. How many times has a team swept in the CS and then come the WS because of the lay-off they have no momentum and it is difficult to get timing back.
Anyone else find it funny that the Phillies CLINCHED a spot in the NLCS AND we are still finding something to bitch about??!?!?
October 6th, 2008 at 11:40 am
No kidding NJ. Wasn’t the media all over the Cubs just a few days ago?
October 6th, 2008 at 11:41 am
I think the media is all over the Dodgers now because they have Manny and because they swept the Cubs. I still think the Cubs are the better team, but they are choke artists in the post season.
October 6th, 2008 at 11:42 am
NC Jason, lol, we wouldn’t be Phillie fans if we weren’t bitching about something!
October 6th, 2008 at 11:44 am
Rockies swept, and swept last year … had like a week off and got rolled by Boston in the World Series..
The Dodgers are a very dangerous team.. lots of players that hit .270+, 20+ HR, 75+ RBIs…
And the lowest ERA in the National League… BUT.. screw em.. I think we’ll win
October 6th, 2008 at 11:45 am
NC your on the money… The writers and analysts are playing up to what they perceive the perception of the Phillies to be. How many teams go into the CS or WS with part of their line-up struggling or having issues with RISP. Suddenly home-field advantage doesn’t apply and is being labeled as bad the Phils and good for the Dodgers… What’s being put out there is totally one sided and prejudice agains the Phils, haven’t heard a single bad thing said about the Dodgers. For starters what about their defense or Saito?
October 6th, 2008 at 11:47 am
You gotta be kidding me. Even after the Phillies swept Big Blue in Philly, even though the Dodgers have only two lefty arms on their team (Kershaw (20 yrs old) and Beimel), even though we will have 4 games in Philly, with three or four extremely hot starting pitchers, ESPN.com has Jason Stark, Tim Kurjan, John Kruk, and Jim Caple picking the Dodgers to win, including Stark picking them to win in 5.
I normally dont care about expert predictions, but It’s just a lack of respect.
October 6th, 2008 at 11:47 am
I love how when Hamels pitched one of the best post season performances of all time it totally got overlooked. ESPN said Hamels was good, and wow Lidge almost blew it. CC will win tomorrow. They talked more about CC being god than talking about Hamels great game. If Hamels pitches that well against the Dodgers we’re guaranteed 2 wins. Not to mention that Utley kills the Dodgers.
October 6th, 2008 at 11:50 am
Cubs lost because Lou Pinella is a bitchy, grumpy old man.. and sat too many of his players down the stretch. Oh yea… and because they were counting too much on Rich Harden (who got hurt like 4 seperate times down the stretch)
October 6th, 2008 at 11:50 am
Yep lowest ERA over the season but this is play-off time and when did people stop talking about the health of ballclubs at this time of the year as an important factor. Their bullpen is all but missing 2 of it’s 3 key peices, sure they have lots of 20/75 guys who can take a base but why do they deserve preference over Vic or Werth who’ve had less playing time and suddenly their a power line-up and Chase/Howard/Burrell aren’t such hot picks to hang their hats on. What about Rollins? Hasn’t he been a game-breaker recently but it’s all about Manny…
October 6th, 2008 at 11:52 am
Those same ESPN guys also had the Cubs winning in 4 in the last series… they are clowns
October 6th, 2008 at 11:52 am
It’s not just their picking the Dodgers, it’s the way their picking the Dodgers by highlighting all the Phillies floors and all they can talk about on the other side is how Lowe gets the ball down and Either’s great behind Manny…
October 6th, 2008 at 11:52 am
I had the chance to go to Friday’s game but now can’t because I took of last week for game 1 of the NLDS. Why couldn’t the game of been in primetime. Apparently Fox thinks Jeff Foxworthy and “Are You Smarter Then a Fifth Grader,” will pull in better ratings Friday night. Ugh.
October 6th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Like I said before.. I want a Phillies- Rays world series, because we’ll get to watch baseball instead of drama … If its Boston vs. LA, I promise you I won’t watch a game
October 6th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Don’t worry, my seven-parter on the Dodgers is coming up starting tomorrow. Plenty more will go with it. New thread about the NLCS in general, recollections, etc.
October 6th, 2008 at 11:56 am
I’d love a Phils/CWS series just to have the writers spending twice as much time stuck researching trying to find positive things to say which will be like eating sand for them.
October 6th, 2008 at 11:57 am
Somebody said how fans just like to bitch….. How about that JOE BLANTON !!!!
Not that I saw anything like that coming.. But, like i’ve said tons of times.. he is better than what we had.. and better than the #4 on most other teams. But I didn’t see that coming yesterday.. he was amazing!
October 6th, 2008 at 11:57 am
Oh, Tim, could you put a nice big picture of Manny up somewhere, because I doubt we’ll be hearing enough about him from the national media in the next couple of days?
October 6th, 2008 at 11:59 am
They’d already have the stories written.. the red headed step-sister team, the White Sox travel to the most unrully fans, the fans who booed Santa Claus and threw snow balls at him.. and what a terrible series
October 6th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Oh my, what a ratings disaster THAT would be.
October 6th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
Don, congrats on the upcoming knot tying. today is my 1 year anniversary… it goes fast! now we have to think of a way to get outta work by 4 on Friday?!?
i am so sick of ESPN, TBS, FOX and any other moron. thank the good lord for the DVR, pause the game a few seconds then cue it up with 1210 and listen to my beloved (-Wheels) homers.
October 6th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
i cant believe the one nut wonder picked LA over us!
October 6th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
I was thinking of doing the radio-bit… Yesterday I was doing all kinds of work, outside, so I had it on the Radio.. would randomly head in to check the game though so I got to see Rollins, Burrell, Werth HRs… which was nice.
I like Buck and McCarver, although I’m wondering if they give those guys the AL game, and we’ll get Tom McCarthy or something.
two Ideas I’d like to see include, Home Announcers just suiting up and broadcasting in FOX jackets or whatever so you still have your guys doing the games.
#2.. all sports that can have “micd-up” players, and watch the game on PayPerView or something and hear what they are actually saying to one another and complaining about and cursing and all… like how when NFL films tells you the stuff they said.. I find that so interesting.. I’d love to hear it live in the games.. More Details on it too, but I can’t give away my entire idea.. anyone know how I can get rich $$$ of that???
October 6th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Don: AL is on TBS this year.
Also, as I said, this is “tentative.” Nothing has been officially confirmed, but Zolecki has this in his notes. So take as you want.
October 6th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
So we won’t have to see Viagra and FRANK TV commercials every 20 seconds anymore??? TBS sucks it..
Yea, I know its tentative.. and “most likely”…but until its set in stone, we can hope and pray that they’ll change their minds and move Friday’s game to 6:00
October 6th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
agreed don thank god no more frankTV commercials… he’s got one or two good impressions, madden and GW. otherwise i cant imagine how anyone could watch that slop.
October 6th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
I acutally had TBS on one night when his show came on… he brought out a guest.. and said the guest did a pretty good impression of whoever….. and then he was like, Thats pretty good.. but check THIS out.. and then went into some dumb skit..
He does Madden great, but ive seen that too many times.. GW never gets old, because there is always new material there… Charles Barkley is GREAT.. but I don’t see too many others that I think are funny
I think DeNiro and Pacino, and Dr. Phil, and those just aren’t funny
October 6th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
Not only are the ESPN a—holes not picking the Phils,,but if you notice John Kruk NEVER favored the Phils in all the times anyone talked about favorites for the division, wild card or otherwise..NEVER.
I think its time for Kruk to feel the fans Bronx Cheer the next time he visits our town..
October 6th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
maybe he doesn’t want to jinx them?? If you ask him who he wants to win, im sure its the Phillies.. but if you ask him who thinks WILL win.. its alright if he goes against them..
Tony Gwynn picked the Phillies to beat the Brewers eventhough his son plays for Milwaukee… (played…)
October 6th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
Don..and by the way congratulations…but ..You may be right ,You probably ARE right(about Kruk)………..but it sure does piss me off!
October 6th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
Yea, its annoying to me too… BUT… I don’t care who they pick for different things.. Wern’t the Cubs already set to play in the World Series according to all those guys just last week… And the Angels were the favorite to win the whole thing..
You never know.. and thats why I preached all year about the team playing the best when the time comes.. look at all the Wild Card teams that have made, and won the WS… We have a potent lineup, and very good pitching and defense… so we’re a legit team too..
If there is an NLCS game #7… its the night of my bachelor party!!!! I’ll probably get arrested that night
October 6th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
Hey nothing wrong with spending a night in the slammer…especially if its for a good reason…
All I know is ..Im very excited and cant wait till Thursday..I think I’ll go nuts until then.
October 6th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
Going back to an earlier thought, I had been thinking the same thing about the prospective markets for the two potential series. No matter the combination of the ALCS I can’t imagine the draw could be larger than the Dodgers vs. Phillies. Tampa Bay sold out their first game of the year Game 1 of ALDS. They are the feel good team but let’s get real! Boston is Boston who we all hate. The White Sox are in intersting draw and so are the Angels, but we probably won’t see either of them. Philly is Philly and we are a pretty darn big market. I hate hearing about it but the Dodgers have a guy named Manny whom the media drools over, not to mention its the Dodgers. So I see no way that this series should take a back seat to the ALCS. I think that these “Tentative” times were preset, just like the dates but as always they are subject to change. Once these to AL series end tonight I think we will see that happen. If not its a scam and I like the rest of you will have to beg and plead to get out early on Friday. Season Tickets Section 144 Row 1 are paying off in a big way. See you all down there if you’re going! Go Phils!
October 6th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
If it’s the red sox vs tampa, (they are winning their respective series, after all)… Wouldn’t it make more sense to put their game at 6ET and our game at 9ET? That way everyone in the country can watch both games.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:54 am
I am sick and tired of the bias against the West Coast. Guess what ESPN, I dont care about the Yankees/Red Sox in March, I could give a rats about the Patriots and it drives me nuts that the only time First Take mentions the Dodgers, is in a debate regarding what Manny’s influence would have been if he were still on the Sox. And now Fox is putting the Dodgers on at 1:15 when they havent been in a meaningful post season series in 20 years. I dont care who wins the East Coast CS and wont watch any of it. Dodgers in six, even though I cant see it all as I have a job. Thanks MLB and TV contracts.
