Game 3 : National League Division Series
Phillies lead 2-0
Philadelphia Phillies at Milwaukee Brewers
Miller Park, Milwaukee
6:30 p.m. / 60, fair
Jamie Moyer (16-7, 3.71 ERA) vs. Dave Bush (9-10, 4.18 ERA)
The Phillies can move to the National League Championship Series with a win tonight against the Brewers. Stoked to a two-game lead, the Phils turn to veteran Jamie Moyer. The 45-year-old southpaw is the second 16-game winner over 45 in baseball history. In two starts against the Brewers, he totaled a 3.09 ERA.
Dave Bush, a Conestoga High graduate (it’s Conestoga vs. Souderton tonight), is an all-pitches right-hander who is either good, or not so good. The Phils make their fourth visit to Miller Park. They were 1-1 there earlier in the season.
News & Notes
Of Brewers big bats, Bill Hall is .625 career against Moyer, and Rickie Weeks is .429. … Greg Dobbs, not starting, is hitting .462 against Bush for his career. … Jayson Werth is back in the two-hole tonight, despite Shane Victorino lacing a grand slam from that position Thursday night. … The Phillies can be the first team to clinch an LCS berth.
The Lineup

Jayson Werth / RF
Chase Utley / 2B
Ryan Howard / 1B

Your Gamenight Beer
It’s a cool October evening, and it’s time to shut the door on the Brewers. Sip a Harvest Moon from the guys who give you Blue Moon. A spicy and robust fall tale, this will be fun to sip in bunches tonight, because it may get you tipsy by … hopefully … celebration time. Enjoy this with a large helping of nachos. Delicious stuff.
Go Phillies!

Werth batting at second?
I guess Charlie think’s he got his groove back during Thursdays game.
October 4th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
Just tried Harvest Moon for the first time last week. Wasn’t a huge fan but I’ve never been a big fan of pumpkin ales. Tonight, I’ll be drinking Sea Dog’s Apricot Ale. Can’t wait to watch the Ageless Wonder tonight.
October 4th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
O.K, Lets get this Party started. got back from Philly last night. I’m down in Norfolk. Found out my Local bar down here (A.J. Gators Downtown) has Yuengling on special this month $2.25/bottle. It seems like an omen.
LETS GO PHILLIES…LETS GO PHILLIES…LETS GO PHILLIES
October 4th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
I’m like Charlie: I think Dobb is most dangerous coming off the bench. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him used early in the game, even to pinch hit for Feliz in the right situation. Plus, all things being equal, you’ve got to like Feliz’s glove over Dobbs’, especially when Moyer’s on the mound.
October 4th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
go Phillies! let’s close this series out tonight.
October 4th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
Is anyone not feeling supremely confident about tonights game?
October 4th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
Yes, NJ. And that scares me, because I’m set up for a huge let down.
October 4th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
I feel confident the series wont head back to Philly and CC will be getting a ‘little’ more that 3 days rest before his next start
October 4th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
I will not feel supremely confident about any game from here on out, there’s nothing that can change that, it’s just the way it is for me.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
Game time folks! I’m revved up!
October 4th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
haha, their rally towels are so weak. It looks like 5 people per section are waving them.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
Gotta get on Bush early.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
BUSH SUCKS!
October 4th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
Midwest fans are weak. Let’s go Phils!!!
October 4th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
Man, it got dramatically quiet the second that first pitch was a ball.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
Nepa, those are weak rally towels.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Let’s get this done tonight fellas!
October 4th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
Werth looked silly on that curve ball.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
two strikeouts so far, hmm.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Why did he swing at that??!
October 4th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Nice swing Werth. You couldn’t hit that one with a boat oar.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
what the heck Werth
October 4th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
That ball was not even in Werth post code yet he still swung at it
October 4th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
You know what “his Whiteness” always said about first batter first inning strike outs…..
October 4th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
Ugly start for the Phils…and I know this is just the 1st inning but I’m starting to feel the pressure
October 4th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
At least Utley made contact. However, judging by the swings so far in the 1st, I have a feeling we’re going to have a Dave “Cy Young” Bush sighting tonight. Could be wrong (hopefully), as it’s only the 1st.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
that first inning was not the way we should’ve started this off. hopefully Moyer can work his magic!
October 4th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
No pressure yet, but Moyer has to have a quick inning so the crowd doesn’t stay on us
October 4th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Uhhh, can’t win the series in the first inning. What the hell are these guys doing
October 4th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
everyone needs to calm down.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
ugh
October 4th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
WTF Moyer walking the 1st batter?
October 4th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
I have a feeling this umpire is going to squeeze Moyer a bit.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
too much rest for Jamie, perhaps?
October 4th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
DP please!
October 4th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
So far the Brewer’s patience is surprising and unexpected
October 4th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
my nerves are on edge right now
October 4th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
oh great
October 4th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
Very small strike zone for Moyer today.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
blah
October 4th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
C’mon Papa Moyer!
October 4th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
Moyer looks annoyed or frustrated or something.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
Well that’s getting squeezed
October 4th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
Ugh. The TV will be off early tonight I have a feeling.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
This is NOT looking good…
October 4th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
Moyer has channeled his inner-Myers
October 4th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
Trust in Moyer. It is only the first inning.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
So much for Ruiz’s defense being the difference maker?
October 4th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
Get out of this with 1 run conceded and we’re doing well.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
this umpire is really squeezing Moyer.
Bush blows, and Jayson Werth made him look like a superstar. His fastball is below average, but he has a decent curveball – don’t make him look like Roy Oswalt.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
lol…if anyone can buckle down though, it’s Moyer. He’s as crafty and wise as they come.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
I think Moyer is getting a feeling of the entire strike zone. Because he’s thrown up, down, left and right. He’s had those “just missed” on every end of the strike zone.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
GET AN OUT WHILE I STILL HAVE FINGERNAILS!!
October 4th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
dammit, he’s nibbling just outside and they’re not going for it
October 4th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
Is it me or does it feel like the TBS folks are rooting for the Brewers?
October 4th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
Thanks guys
October 4th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
1 out not get a DP
October 4th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
Manny, all of MLB is rooting because they want to market CC Sabathia. Notice since we beat him, all the talk has been how Sabathia blew up, not the Phillies beating him.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
Oh cmon this umpire is not helping the cause
October 4th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
Oh yeah, I think these tools are pulling for the Brewers too, Manny.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
What, is the strike zone the size of a g-spot? Holy Shit. This guy is horrible.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
I’ve got game espn gamecast up and its showing the ups zone as inconsistent as it gets… Guess thats the way it goes soometimes…
October 4th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
I know, it sucks, SJ Mike… And obviously TBS wants to boost its rating with a game tomorrow, etc
October 4th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
Alright, if we can get outta here with 1-0 it wont be too bad. But Moyer will not be able to settle down all night with this ump. He’s got a very tight strikezone
October 4th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
If we can get out of this with only one, I’ll take it.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
Our offense has to be patient now, seeing how small the strike zone is. Take a lot of pitches, because it is obvious it is a small strike zone.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
Damn thats a big hit. That was strike 3 the pitch before.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
amazing the 2nd pitch low was a strike but the 1-2 pitch on the corner gets called a ball… What is this ump doing?
October 4th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
AHHHHHH
October 4th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
This ump needs to be shot in the damn head. That last pitch should have been a strike. He needs his ass kicked.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
F*CK THIS UMPIRE
October 4th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
where is this strike zone? this is insane
October 4th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
This umpire is rediculous. If he doesn’t start calling those borderline pitches, then this will be a long night for the Phils and Moyer.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Those are all strikes!!
October 4th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
This strike zone is awful. Moyer is clearly frustrated, and he’s a guy who does not get visually frustrated.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
I’m not worried.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
This plate ump is ridiculous.
These announcers are outright rooting for the brewers.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
ok there we go. the damage’s been done though. the bats HAVE to step up now.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Ok…Howard and Burrell need to do something against Bush.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
I’m not worried either, but this guy is clearly the Tim Donaghy of MLB.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Trust in Moyer though to adjust. If any pitcher I’ve seen for us gives up first inning runs and comes back to dominate, it is Moyer. I’ve seen Moyer get lit up for 2 or 3 a lot in first innings and then come back and mow down for the next 5 innings.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
About God Damned time! This f&*king ump and his shitty calls are going to send my blood pressure up about 100 points tonight. You can tell Moyer was pissed on that last ball call.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Falling behind because we’re getting hit is one thing but this is just bad officiating.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
This umpire is obviously being paid by the brewers!
October 4th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
For Moyer to adjust and get a consistent location called a strike he’ll need to locate in the middle of the zone.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
how many pitches did Moyer throw in the 1st? it seemed like 50.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
Phillies NEED to be patient, too.
How can this guy be the HP umpire for a playoff game?
October 4th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
The ump is is calling balls and strikes like Moyer has been all over the place. All but 2 or 3 pitches have been right on the cusp of the strike zone.
Generally umps squeeze pitchers when they’re throwing all over the place, wild pitches, hitting batters, etc. But Moyer is not missing by much, but the ump is calling him like he’s wild.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
YEA!! Howard!
October 4th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
That new manager for the Brewers looks a little shifty to me, he and the ump probably have something going.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
34 pitches by Moyer in the first.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
yay Howard!
October 4th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
Howard double.
His first hit this post season.
Time for Pat the Bat to step up
October 4th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
this is the jack ass that called myers randy the other night….who gives a sh*t what
goes on in wisconsin
October 4th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
I never thought I’d find annoucers that made Joe Buck look good….
October 4th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
This is why I said the other night why I hated John Smoltz being in the booth.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
I had to leave my friends because they said I spitting when I talk about the ump. TV casters said the green Brewers will have to be patient and setting down. The ump needs to settle down. And let’s go Ryan!
October 4th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
Has Burrell ever thought of not being so slow, like maybe try running faster?
October 4th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
Damn burrell’s slow
October 4th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
Man I miss Harry K
October 4th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
Smoltz is a “Cee-uuu-Next-Tuesday”
October 4th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
Patience at the plate. Not first pitch swinging.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
So Bush gets the outside corner against righties and Moyer doesn’t?
October 4th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
Agree totally Dave…nice way of putting it for a family blog
October 4th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Moyer needs a quick inning now.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
LH, were you spitting food or just spit in general?
October 4th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
I noticed there were some ladies among us… wasn’t about to drop a Nuke this early in the game. I hate living in the South. TBS sucks, SportsSouth Sucks, 2/3rds of the Atlanta TV sports media sucks…. But they have a nice stadium.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
These announcers are the shits. That’s a nice way of putting it for a Phillies blog.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
againt these balls are strikes
October 4th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
… a blimp for a domed stadium!?!?!?!? Did they learn how to broadcast from FOX? SOmeone give me NBC and Vin Scully. These guys can’t STFU.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
again^
October 4th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
I’d like to see John Smoltz get electrocuted by a short in the microphone for just his repeated bandbox comments over the years, but I’d like to see it even more for his booth presence on top of it.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
Yeah, I was kind of confused by the blimp for the dome also.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
Nice out!! Feliz!
October 4th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
wow what a play by Feliz.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
Man, that was a nice play by Pedro.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
Feliz does have a gun there at 3rd
October 4th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Is it just me or is this ump not giving Moyer any pitches?I saw about 20 pitches that should of been strikes and he calls em balls.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
I’d like for Smoltz to get (violent obsene action) with a (large object with or without a lampshade)
October 4th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
J-Man, that’s been the talk of the game so far amongst us.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
The only upside to him in the booth is that Smoltz does obviously have a lot of respect for Moyer.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
Yea me and a buddy of mine are watching it and were like wtf?
October 4th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
Cmon Jamie ground him out! hehe
October 4th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
every first pitch is a ball, ugh.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
OH CMON!!!!!!!!!!! ARE YOU FUC*ING SERIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 4th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
So Cameron’s count is now 0-6
October 4th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
It seems like Moyer is going 3-2 count with EVERY hitter…. damn it
October 4th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
Ball 2 and 3 were both strike 3
October 4th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
This umps gotta having money riding on this game.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
it’s not even funny now
October 4th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
too many walks
October 4th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
Cmon Charlie punch this fool!
October 4th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
Ok, I’m starting to get really pissed off at this strike zone. This is ridiculous.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
… looks like i picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines…..
October 4th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
that’s just bullshit… seriously pull up gamecast!
October 4th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
another first pitch ball, geesh.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
This is ridiculous and messed up… I can’t believe the TBS guys are so indifferent. This is frustrating.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
These commentators are way too biased. They’re almost as bad as the strike zone.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Ok, I know it’s not sportsmanship and I don’t think he’d argue horribly, but Moyer should say something, because this is ridiculous.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Those are both strikes…. Look at gamecast
October 4th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
and another! aparently perfect location is now a ball
October 4th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
They are covering up for the poor job calling pitches. Just cause it looks like a strike on camera doesn’t mean it is.
Thanks guys.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Jesus, I was starting to think that swinging was also gonna be called a ball by this son of a bit*h
October 4th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
This is the same umpire who bumped Jerry Manuel and was suspended for a game back in June….
October 4th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
we are completely screwed.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Ok, now this umpire is on crack.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Wow, the ump actually gave Moyer a strike.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
please no more walks.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
I guess Smoltz does have a point with the camera angle. I didn’t really notice it until he brought it up – it does give you a bit of a different illusion.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Maybe Ruiz threatened this son of a bitch ump.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
if he didn’t call that a strike i think moyer would’ve charged the plate.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Its about freaking time.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
finally a called strike!
October 4th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
First pitch of next inning if I was Ruiz I’d call for a pitch he has trouble catching right into the umps leg.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
I hate when umpires don’t check their egos at the doors and have zero accountability.
And Dave, that surprises me that they’d allow him to umpire a playoff game then, because usually suspensions affect your playoff status.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
If I were Ruiz, I’d be calling this prick just about everything under the book in Spanish. He’s probably too dumb to realize what Carlos is saying, though, so it’s almost perfect. You could tell Ruiz was as pissed as a hornet at the last mound meeting.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
At this rate, Happ is going to be pitching in the 4th inning
October 4th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Well it benefits MLB and Seligs precious Brewers to have this serious go a little longer if it can.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
this is bull moyer is not getting calls and bush is…….
October 4th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
Be Patient Phillies,, PATIENT!!
October 4th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
so how many more innings will Moyer pitch?
October 4th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
If I was Charlie I’d get Taguchi up on the mound and bean the ump.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
Moyer is clearly talking to him the umpire. Way to go, Jamie.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
this ump is garbage!
October 4th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
At this rate, he’ll be lucky to go four.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
This umps been involved in a couple of controversial calls…Heres his Wikipedia profile http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Runge
October 4th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
I bet moyer gave him a piece of his mind. I’m surprised the ump didnt call that first one a strike.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
J-roll!
October 4th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
we have had so many doubles this series.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
The fact that 8 of the 9 hitters in the Brewers are righties, this umpire thinks that all pitches are out of the strike zone.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
SJ Mike… why is it that surprising? We’re Philadelphia! We ALWAYS get hosed.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
That ump is a son of a bit*h. Period.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
J-Man, this guy has a lot of controversial calls according to that wikipedia.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
Despite the strike zone, our team isn’t hitting and theirs are.
Its that simple.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
Moyer at 62 pitches….
October 4th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
If it was Sabathia pitching today, he could throw it up to the backstop and he’d still call it a strike.
This is like the anti-Leslie Nielson from the first Naked Gun.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
Werth wtf man
October 4th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
oh looky Bush gets the touch off the plate call… Surprise suprise
October 4th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Rob, The Brewers have 3 scattered singles. Take away the squeezed walks, score is still 0-0.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
It seems like the Phils hitters and Brew Crews hitters switched places.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Werth has looked horrible at the plate tonight. I’d rather see (gulp) Jenkins. Maybe he’d have a little something for his former mates.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
I agree Jamie, but not yet. Maybe in the 6th or 7th inning if Werth is still sucking.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
Anybody else find it ironic they just showed Rollins’ interview about Moyer?
October 4th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
I do!
October 4th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
stop complaining .
October 4th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Finally this umpire appears to have stopped being an asshole
October 4th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
Moyer is settled. we just need runs
October 4th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
Manny, don’t get your hopes up just yet.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Great gun by Werth!
October 4th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Caught a break there, great play by Werth.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Nice play Werth.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEAUTIFULLLLLL PLAY WERTH – HOWARD..thanks for helping out my boy Jamie
October 4th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
that almost makes up for werth’s strike outs
October 4th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
Whatever Moyer said to the home plate umpire worked.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
Were gonna have to start hitting the ball soon…Bush is garbage.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
did moyer say something to the ump??
October 4th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
NJ, when Moyer came up to bat in the top of the inning, him and the umpire had some kind of exchange. They said a good bit to each other.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Nice, typical Chase-hit
October 4th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
This is when Howard needs to homer…
October 4th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
cheers Mike. The thing that grinds my noodle is if the Brewers win suddenly it’s an inspired comback with Moyer labouring which just isn’t the case.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
NJ, it isn’t like Moyer is getting rocked., either. It’s not like the Brewers are jumping on him.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
Nice base running by both Chase and Howard
October 4th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
Here comes garbage Pat.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
That first pitch strike to Burrell has been a ball for Moyer all night.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
Oh, the s.o.b. is back
October 4th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
Somebody walk up to this ump and knock him out.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
Those first 2 strikes were balls for Moyer. That is what is ridiculous about this umpire.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
Burrell could have only hit those with a 3 iron for Christ sakes!
October 4th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
This ump has to be on the take.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
3 singles appears to be the difference in this game.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
Burrell never gets a hit anymore.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
Cmon we need to score a run at least…this would be yet another inning were we’d leave a guy on 2nd…go Shane!
October 4th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
I never complain about umps, but this is just ridiculous. Those pitches for Burrell were being called balls all night for Moyer.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Bud Selig prolly personally brought this ump to this game to favor his Brewers.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
Damn…Vic hit that one on the screws.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
We can definitely hit this Bush guy… as long as the umpire makes the right calls.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
If he doesn’t give Moyer those pitches now after giving them to Bush, then (insert bad thought here)….
October 4th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
It is in MLB’s favour to not see so many sweeps
October 4th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
Somebody needs to wake Pat the Bat up soon or it’s time for him to have a seat on the bench.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
This umpire blows.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
True NJ, more games=more revenue.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
consider all games are 2 zip… Has been bad press for MLB
October 4th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
This is by far the most inconsistent strike zone I have ever seen. My little league ump was more consistent. How come Philly always ends up with these kind of guys in critical games.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
I really don’t want this to go to tomorrow because I have tickets tot he Eagles game tomorrow.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
The Flyers always seem to get screwed by officials, especially in the playoffs.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Great inning by Moyer….
October 4th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
I just read this umps wikipedia page and I’m baffled this guy has a job.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
Alright, so this is like the 3rd inning now where we’ve gotten the lead off runner on, with nothing to show for it so far. They’ve gotta get something here.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
I’m sorry, but their rally towels look like kleenexes.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
You have got to be kidding me. That 2nd pitch to Ruiz was a strike? That has been a ball all night.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
Are you kidding me Matt Stairs?Come on Cholly.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Our hitting is just sad.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
Our offense is looking so terrible.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
So we beat Sabathia, but can’t beat Bush?
October 4th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
JESUS CHRIST!! WE NEED OFFENSE!!
October 4th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
What’s the deal with this strike zone? One swing of the bat and it’s a new game.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
I always wondered what happened to Spicoli after Fast Times at Ridgemont High….
http://tinyurl.com/4lymsd
October 4th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Condrey will blow this thing open for the Brewers I’m afraid.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Is Condrey the right guy for this 5th inning?
October 4th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Dave-lol, I guess we have our answer, the dude’s a stoner.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Dont worry, theyre still going to win this game. Although I dont know why Clay Condrey was chosen to eat a few innings…its only 2-0, why bring him in at all? Why not JA Happ?
October 4th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
I was thinking the same, Geoff. Maybe Happ is better starting but I thought that they kept him for the playoffs especially for scenarios like this one.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
ugh, major blah.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
Condrey will help them blow this thing wideeee open.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
WHAT THE HECK? WHY IS CLAY CONDREY IN THE GAME WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT???????????? COME ON DAMN IT!
October 4th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
When opponents are batting .302 against you, that’s not good. Condrey is good at mop-up duty, but he should not be in a game in this situation.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Maybe it’s just me, but I think Moyer should have gone another inning. Last two weren’t that bad.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Yeah, I thought too this early it should be Happ.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
That IS why happ is there…or chad durbin, theyve had a day off…
October 4th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
What is Burrell doing?
October 4th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
ok…now get him out of there and bring someone else in…hes not good enough to face fielder
October 4th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
Brutal JUST BRUTAL BUT we can’t win by scoring 0 runs offense needs to be bitch slapped
October 4th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
i agree mike. he hasnt given a run since the 1st. why waste the bullpen for 5 innings. is moyer on a pitch count?
October 4th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
yeha…their bullpen sucks, we just have to get dave bush out of the game…
October 4th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
This is not looking good. If our offense was showing any life I wouldn’t be too worried. But right now, getting at the least 4 runs seems like a very tall mountain to climb.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
moyer threw a lot of pitches in the first two innings. thats why he got pulled early
October 4th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
We lose tonight with the way they’re playing. Tomorrow we better win with Fat Joe, because if we don’t, we’re going home for the year. Game 5 will be against CC, and he’ll get us this time.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
… now why is a ballpark partially owned (*or merely associated with) The Commissioner of Baseball have bare spots in the outfield in the playoffs?
October 4th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
GET HIM OUT OF THIS GAME RIGHT NOW! HES HORRIBLE, not good enough to be on the playoff roster even
October 4th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
But he was still only around 90. That’s still somewhat of a low pitch count.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
throw a strike Condrey!
October 4th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
It’s probably part of the “home field advantage”, the Brewers know where all the holes are.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
Why does it feel like we’re definitely gonna lose when we’re only down by 3..and we supposedly have one of the best offense in the game.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
Why, why, why?
October 4th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
.412 with the bases loaded? Career? Oy.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
NO! NO GAME 5…NO! They will win today or tomorrow. Dont even think about it. dude, IS ANYONE ELSE LOSING IT HERE! WHY IS CLAY CONDREY STILL IN THIS GAME! WHAT THE HELL WHAT THE HELL WHAT THE HELL WHAT THE HELL
October 4th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
Damn, I would’ve paid money to see Ruiz gun out that fat vegetarian.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
Having Condrey in’s fine, if the offense gets going then Durbin/Romero but if this one’s heading to a loss no point putting them in.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
No game 5! I’m with you Geoff
October 4th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Alright. 2-3-4 coming up. Maybe we can get a runner past 2nd base, ya never know.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
That could’ve been a lot worse.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
YES YES YES NOW SCORE SOME GODDAMN RUNS GOD ITS LIKE WATCHING A BUNCH OF RETARDS TRYING TO HUMP A DOOR-KNOB
October 4th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Why does it feel like we’re going to lose the series when we’re up 2-0? I pray we can win tonight or tomorrow.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
WHAT!!!!!!!! HOW DID HE GET OUT OF THAT? THE BREWERS MUST REALLY SUCK. THIS IS CRAZY, IT SHOULD BE 8-0 BY NOW. THE PHILLIES NEED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT AND GET BACK IN THIS GAME RIGHT NOW.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
How can you be so fat being a vegetarian?? Seriously, does he pound carrots every night before going to bed
October 4th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Geoff, try to chill. I’d like to say it’ll be ok but I can’t, but try to chill anyway, you’re makin me nervous!
October 4th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Well, I don’t have anything to say, you’ve done the best you could. You really have, the best you could. You can’t expect to win em all. But, I want to tell you something I’ve kept to myself through these years. I was in the war myself, medical corps. I was on late duty one night when they brought in a badly wounded pilot from one of the raids. He could barely talk. He looked at me and said, “The odds were against us up there, but we went in anyway, I’m glad Captain made the right decision. The pilot’s name was George Zip.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
They are not going to lose this series, PERIOD. If they somehow do then we will deal with it and ill flip out then and youll hear about what they need to do..
BUT RIGHT NOW, theyre going to get back into this game
October 4th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
He must eat wheelbarrows of pasta.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Manny, he pounds carrots alright. Sits on em. Pointy side up.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
We got the heart of the order here if we’re getting back in this game it’s time now
October 4th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
werth needs to redeem himself right now i swear
October 4th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
DAMNIT!
October 4th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
BOOOOOOOOOOYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
October 4th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
oh wait, he didn’t catch it? what?
October 4th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
LETS GO BABY! here’s the turn
October 4th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
Nice catch… wah wah
October 4th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
If we don’t score in this inning….
October 4th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
That confused me. I thought that was a spectacular catch by Hart, turned my head, and turned back to see Werth on 3rd.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
We’ll find a way to screw up…Our hitting just sucks.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
… didnt that hit him? Looked like it.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
I thought utley got hit by that pitch
October 4th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
No matter how bad it’s been so far were still in this one if we can hit back some here.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
Someone needs to sit on that curveball and hit it like 450 ft.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
That was ball 4 Utley, jesus.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Not good utley
October 4th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
come on Howard!
October 4th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Howard…Burell…cmon big guys show Bush that it’s time to leave
October 4th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
glad to see him go
October 4th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
If they don’t get a run here I’m going to start freaking out.
Good, new pitcher, here’s our chance.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Pinch Hitter for Burrell perhaps?
October 4th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
I’m with you guys – I don’t know how Fielder can be so fat as a vegetarian. He looks like a Cheese-steak kind of guy to me. Too bad – he don’t know what he’s missing.
On another note, WOW! I didn’t see them lifting Bush this early – only 70 pitches?!
October 4th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
…. Yeah but they bring in another pitcher, Intentionally walk Howard and Burrell GIDP’s.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
OH F YOU TBS!!!!!!! DIE!!!!!!
October 4th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
I would hit for burrell
October 4th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Burrell has been useless this postseason….
Anyways, now, runner on third one out bullpen coming in for the brewers, now is the time to strike. they will score at least one run in this inning.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
good one utley . . . it would be nice to see him show up some time in the playoffs.
we HAVE to get at least run here, hopefully Howard can at least hit a fly ball, because I don’t trust Burrell at all.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
what the hell tbs putting up freaking Phillies failure i hate tbs. bring me back chris wheeler lol
October 4th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Really? Of all the moments you can show, you show that?
October 4th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
I’d definitely pinch hit for Burrell, although we all know Uncle Chalie doesn’t have the stones
October 4th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Yea, that Carter flashback was completely necessary.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Utley has been real small in this series and he outright sucked last year against the rockies
October 4th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Ugh now Howards gotta face a LHP.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
this is really not the time for the offense to take a crap again.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Finally!!!!!
October 4th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
good job big man, way to fight him off for a big rbi
October 4th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Run scores…. eh.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
We needed that run
October 4th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
well at least we got one back.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Pinch hit for garbage Pat Cholly please.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
silly me…i always thought ties went to the runner. just not in milwaukee, i guess.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
It’s a start. We still have 10 outs left vs. the bullpen. Hopefully ours can step up and keep it right where it is.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
I don’t get why they would play the carter flashback. There isn’t one player left from the team in MLB, so how is that relevant?
October 4th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Come on utley and howard – wake up
October 4th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
one down two to go lets go maybe its Geoff time, you know that would be awesome right now Lefty versus RHP its go time. Playoffs can’t hold anything back now
October 4th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Well the Brew Crews bullpen has been almost as bad as the Mets this year,it’s just a matter of our bats waking up and getting to em.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
I would gladly pinch hit Jenkins for Burrell here.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
I agree j-Man, the worst thing the Brewers could do was take out their starter, especially only have throwing 70 pitches.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Burrell’s looking for a walk
October 4th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Well there bullpen hasn’t given up an earned run so they look like the Rays bullpen against the White Sox
October 4th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Howard = Safe
October 4th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Burrell needs to get benched, he’s ice cold.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
Yea their starter didn’t throw many pitches and they pulled him,now we need to make em pay for it.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
Burrell’s always looking for a walk . . . God forbid he swing the damn bat. The guy could have 120 rbis a season in his situation, batting 5 in this order if he would swing the bat.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Charlie should just hand this lineup card over:
Jimmy Rollins / SS
Jayson Werth / RF
Chase Utley / 2B
Ryan Howard / 1B
FREE OUT / LF
Shane Victorino / CF
Pedro Feliz / 3B
Carlos Ruiz / C
Jamie Moyer / P
October 4th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Enough with Burrell, it’s time for him to leave the game. And if we lose (hopefully not), he shouldn’t play tomorrow.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Burrell has the mindset of a 3 hole hitter with the ability of a 5-6 hole hitter . . . How much longer do we have to watch him take garbage fastballs over the middle of the plate? . . . SWING
October 4th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
The Damm sausages run faster then Burrell….
October 4th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3625801&name=mlb_playoffs SELIG In attendance, i’m crying foul
October 4th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
Hmmmm…. I think the Office of the Commissioner needs to investigate Selig for tampering….
October 4th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
I don’t know why, but I kinda feel safe now with Durbin on the mound.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
I’d start Brett Myers in left before Burrell in the next game, at least we know he can battle with the pitcher.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
As if there wasn’t enough untrustworthy perception of Selig as it was.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
Come on, really Durbin?
October 4th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
I think the office of the commissioner has to investigate Selig for being a a-hole.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
…never mind
October 4th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
ugh we can’t give up more runs.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
Come on Durbin you have pitched in like a week wtf?
October 4th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
I wanted to sit down and enjoy a game of baseball not a tale of umpire ineptitude. The game should be 2-1 Brewers, and we should still have Howard on first. Are umps gambling on this game?
October 4th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
I would have rather seen Happ in there to pitch the 5th and 6th than Condrey and Durbin, even though the Brewers mash lefties.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Is it me, or are the only pitchers in the Brewer bullpen Stetter or Villanueva?
October 4th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
get durbin outta there
October 4th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Who’s scheduled to start for us tomorrow Fat Joe?He blows.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Oh man…this is looking ugly.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
ugh Durbin, three straight hits!!!
October 4th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
No wonder Cholly didn’t use Durbin the first 2 games.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
I noticed that the strikezone expanded after the 2nd inning; not coincidentally, Moyer got roughed up in the first inning.
Great job Durbin — any more line drive base hits?
October 4th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
don’t you just hate it when the conspiracy theories have to come up, if the ump called the game fair and selig wasn’t there with an already contraversial ump then it would be your normal fair ballgame instead of having to speculate.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Bullpen meltdown. Offensive failure. Hostile umpires.
What else is new?
October 4th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Sj Mike, those are the only pitchers they trust. Notice that in a game yesterday when the Brewers were down 4 runs, they pitched Gag-me(Gagne).
October 4th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Wow they suuuuuck with the rally towels
October 4th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Runge’s record as an umpire really speaks for itself. There’s no conspiracy or a theory.
He’s just not a Major League Caliber Umpire. He’s just a Major League Caliber A-Hole.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
and again not a single ball thrown in this AB has been a true ball…
October 4th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Big strike out.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Charlie should seriously think about pitching Hamels on 3 days rest tomorrow. Fat Joe just won’t cut it I’m afraid. We CANNOT risk a Game 5.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
not just Gagne but also the closer Torres.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Does anyone else think TBS’s “Pitchtrax” is waaay off? Pitches that are borderline in reality show up as like 8 feet off the plate in the graphic.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Not the old double switch
October 4th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
I don’t think an umpire with a questionable record like that should be allowed to work the playoffs.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Eyre can be shakey at times.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
I agree Jamie. Hamels would get the ball tomorrow if needed. We can’t leave it up to bulbous Blanton.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
No more Burrell…. Werth to LF. Jenkins in the 9 spot.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Oh no
October 4th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Whew. Momentum….payback.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
I agree we gotta give it to Hamels…Fat Joe sucks.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Okay, we get a run an inning and we win….
October 4th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Alright…that should put them down.. Good job by Eyre… NOW OFFENSE WE NEED YOU>>>
October 4th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Thank God! Now get some f*cking runs you neanderthals!
October 4th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Eyre has been a good trade, overall. I can’t say he is the greatest lefty ever, but he isin’t bat for an August move.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Here’s to hoping Jenkins enjoys his trip back to his ol’ stomping ground and welcomes it back with a big hit.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
I wonder if Blanton is on Fielder’s vegetarian diet too.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
yay!
October 4th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Yea, Fielder and Blanton are vegetarians between meals.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Lol Fielder is one fat dude for a vegetarian…I guess he eats alot of veggie burgers and twinkies.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Ok, we have some momentum. Lets string some hits together.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Veggies Lovers pizza from Pizza Hut.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Just goes to show you eating meat doesn’t make you fat, it just gives your cheeks a rosy glow!
October 4th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
It’s disgusting when Fielder lifts his jersey when he’s running the bases after a homer.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
This game feels so much like that last one from 2007 NLDS.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
I know Cecil Fielder wasn’t skinny by any means, but it is possible that Tony Gwynn is Prince Fielder’s father?
October 4th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
God, Manny, I never saw him do that, I must have blocked it from my memory for fear of permanent damage.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
We’re screwed.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
This really sucks.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
I know this doesn’t excuse the offense, but it’s still so frustrating to think that it could/should only be 1-1 given those 2 walks that the umpire gave to the Brewers.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
Why does Miller Park sound like a group of comrads in the Mother Soviet Union?
October 4th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
I agree SJ Mike… This umpire blew this game, but Howard, Utley and Burrell need to start producing.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
We’re getting very little from J-Roll & Werth at the top of the lineup, nothing from Utley or Burrell, and little from Howard, Feliz, or Ruiz. They need to be patient and hit the their pitch instead of the Pat Burrell approach if we are going to win today, tomorrow, or anytime else in 2008. The Brewers have a good offense, but we’ve been lucky we’ve been able to have them strand so many baserunners tonight.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Well, excusing everything that went on in the first four inning(which is a lot) this game would be 2-1 if it wasn’t for gas-can Condrey. There are few Phillies I dislike more than Condrey.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Now why can’t our hitters do that?
October 4th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Why would Uncle Chalie put Werth back in the 2-hole after the game Victorino had Thursday? If nothing else, Victorino showed he was a spark-plug.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
don’t be too hard on the guy, if we loose this game it won’t be for Condrey so much as the bats not having a good game.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
can we replace umps with robots?
October 4th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
I’m not going to sit here ad blame Rungie for handing the brewers a lead (he did) but the Phillies have had their chances. No walks by Brewer pitchers and no clutch hits by the Phils.
Its like ‘92 and some schmoe named Sveum at the plate. 24-for-135 and a .178 average.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
… Uh Guys? Can someone cover first? Would that be too much to ask?
October 4th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
I agree NJ Says, but the relief pitcher have to be able to shut guys down if the bats aren’t clicking. It is scary to think how good the Phillies could be if they could hit consistently.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Looks like Cholly’s lineup shift is paying off. Nice page from the LaRussa book of Overmanaging.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
damnit
October 4th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
we suck today.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
I can’t watch this anymore. See you all tomorrow for Game 4!
October 4th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
well, this ones over. who are they starting tomorrow? Suppan?
October 4th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Brad Nelson needs a bigger uniform
October 4th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
I agree when the game is on the line you have to expect your relievers to shut the door but 3 down early you have to chance your arm with your longman and hope for a break.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Once again, consistently inconsistent….
October 4th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
the game isin’t over yet. this team has shown on many occasions that they can come back from 3-4 runs down.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Well, terrible job by Manuel to leave Eyre out there to get destroyed by righties. Shitty night all the way around. It’s up to Blanton tomorrow or else CC can get his revenge in game 5
October 4th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
I just want to see a threat of more then 1 base runner next inning. Any threat they’ve had has only been 1 runner.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
i’ll admit it doesn’t look good though, especially since Utley and Howard have decided to take another playoff series off.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
if the phillies knew how to play small-ball the game would be tied, or 4-3 at worst right now.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
Gagne? Come on, lets go.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
… even the Brewer ball girls suck…. Can’t even field a grounder….
October 4th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
jesus christ, I wish I was able to turn this off.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
jimmy…what the hell was that?
October 4th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
We gotta hit and take some pressure off the pitchers. Can’t blame the BP. They’d be more relaxed if there were some runs on the board.
I had some friends over for dinner so I couldn’t really watch much til Eyre’s last inning. My friends are like – “the Phillies are in the playoffs?” ummm..yaaaa.. Its all Uof M for them…
October 4th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
come on werth, get on base…need at least one run here
October 4th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
Looks like I’m going to need a portable radio tomorrow, because I’ll be at the Eagles game….
October 4th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
yes……double. ok…utley, drive him home…
October 4th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Laugh at prince all you want people. How’s that offense doing? Rollins, utley Howard and burrell 5 for 35 13 strikeouts. Thanks guys!
October 4th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
I’m gonna give that dive by Cameron a 5.5
October 4th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
I don’t see that happening Geoff.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
PhillyGirl, did you politely kick them out so you could watch the game?
October 4th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
utley doesnt look prepared for the at bat
October 4th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
Utley hasn’t looked “right” for awhile now….
October 4th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
so frustrating
October 4th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Offense is a no-show again, can’t win playoff games with no offense.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Can we get the Gameday thread for Game 4 up now?
October 4th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
damn it chase….all three of them. eric gagne left a ton of garbage over the plate. mid-80s home run balls and nobody took advantage. up to this point, this has been one of their worst hitting performances of the entire season. dave bush is GARBAGE and he shut them down. this is horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
unless salomon torres hacks it up here (highly possible) then they will have to send blanton out there tomorrow. PLEASE, at least rough up jeff suppan if they have to. if they cant beat either bush or suppan then they might as well just forget about it. those guys suck.
ok…at least make torres work for this save.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
Shit, if we have to face Sabathia again in game 5 I’m going to start self-medicating now.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Yea, if we have to face CC on full rest in Game 5, I’m going to have to be so drunk. I won’t be able to handle that pressure.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Choke Choke Sabbathia? No problem!
October 4th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
You KNOW CC would love to have another shot at the Phils.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
Hopefully they at least make this interesting. Torres is very beatable, especially lately.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
So would the Phils, I think. Get the lineup back to normal Cholly.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
The Brewers closer’s name sounds like a dinosaur species.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
God Dobbs is clutch.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
NICE…ok…now, good at bat here shane…
October 4th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Come on Shane, rip one into the corner….
October 4th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Shane, MAKE HIM PITCH.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
YES, come on.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
…. what is this? What team is this? Who are these guys and where have they been?
October 4th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
YES….YES…ok…pedro, take it easy, get a good pitch to hit. GREAT hitting by shane…..
October 4th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Oh wait.. nevermind….
October 4th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Why would he swing first pitch? Make this garbage pitch a little.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Jeeze, what a wasted opportunity.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
DAMNIT! terrible by feliz….terrible..now we need two runs with ONE man on base. DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
I SOOO wanted this to be over tonite.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
that was SO bad….now…someone…get a base hit and extend the inning…
October 4th, 2008 at 10:01 pm
well the bats have been poor driving in RISP all series
October 4th, 2008 at 10:01 pm
HUH!?!?!!?
F’N A-HOLE!
October 4th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
WHAT? WHAT? well whatever…carlos ruiz just needs to get a base hit…
October 4th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
Well that was disgusting….
October 4th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
Yeah…. thats the Phillies i grew up watching since 1982….. F TBS. F the Umpires. F Pat Burrell. F the Flyin Elbow Hawaiian and F BUD SELIG!
…. think i just about covered that….
October 4th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
THIS IS THE WORST PERFORMANCE OF THE SEASON. all these pitchers they faced tonight SUCK!!!!!!!!! oh well…they MUST win tomorrow, and i think they will…a team has to choke really bad to get swept anyway.,.,.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Jesus Christ, that was pitiful!
October 4th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
I wonder if this bad umpiring will carry over to the Dodgers/Cubs…..
October 4th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
no feliz cost them that…that had blown save written all over it…and feliz SWINGS AT THE FIRST PITCH…AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
damn it.
win tomorrow…thats all im going to say about this
October 4th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Can someone fly the Phillies offense to Milwakee. I think they forgot it here.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Thats the worst 9th inning rally i’ve ever seen…Load up the bases with no outs and then a double play…I can’t say i’m surprised we lost because before tonights game they said on the news the Phils have lost 8 of their last 9 at Miller Park.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Brian Runge has no business being a Major League umpire.
Granted, that’s no excuse for the lack of Philly offense whatsoever but he didn’t help.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
I hope they have it left in em to beat CC Sabathia again because it looks like it’s coming back to Philly and he will pitch.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
Mitch Williams is ripping Runge a new asshole on the postgame show.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
Yea how does Brian Runge make the playoff roster after getting suspended for the Beltran incident earlier this year?I think Bud Selig had something to do with tonight game, that pos is such a fraud and he was at the game too.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
I’m as big as a Phillies fan as they come, but that Victorino play was garbage and dirty. He should be embarrassed.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
That was an awful play by Victorino. Nobody is debating that. He needs to be sliding on that.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Georgie -
Yep – I thought of kicking them out!! The UofM game kind of sucked the life out of them anyways. So they were actually leaving when one of ‘em saw Durbin pitching on the other TV so I had to explain the “yea..that’s where he went story”. That delayed their departure a bit.
Tomorrow’s another day…I don’t even want to see the tape of this last one…
October 4th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
It could be worse, we could all be cubs fans!
October 4th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Looks like the Dodger didn’t forget how to hit tonight. Looks like they’ll be the fist through the NLDS
October 4th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Maybe we need to bring in Manny Ramirez to finally get over the hump…Look what he’s done to the Dodgers since he’s come to town.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Sounds kinda nit picky, but it helped me blow off some steam. I sent an angry email to the umpires association about Brian Runge.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Charlie just said in the postgame press conf that Blanton is pitching tomorrow, when asked about Hamels, Charlie said definitely not.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
Gotta win tomorrow – that’s all I gotta say. This was tough watching tonight, until the 9th. Why did Feliz have to go for the first pitch? Damn show some discipline.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Ugh Fat Joe pitching tomorrow has a loss written all over it.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Had Feliz showed some patience and ripped a gapper, he could have cleared the bases and tied it up.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Is tomorrow’s game Joe Blanton’s first playoff game ever, or does he have any postseason experience???
October 4th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
Feliz is only good for when you need an insurance run, when your trying to rally don’t look for him to help out.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Problem is SJ Mike, Charlie’s gotta keep Feliz in there regardless of his offensive lapses. Can’t put Dobbs at 3rd tomorrow – need the defense.
It seems the same with Ruiz – good defense, but rarely comes through at the bat. PLEASE GET MARSON UP TO THE BIGS SOON!!!!
October 4th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Seriously, Blanton’s pitching? That sucks. The Phils were one hit away from a win today. It killed me how they couldn’t knock in the runs with runners in scoring position. Especially Feliz at the end – why was he swinging at the first pitch?
October 4th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Am I paranoid? Watching on TBS, it just seems like the 3 announcers have a little more “oomph”, rah-rah, excitement, whatever for the brewers – it just seems like there’s a bias against the phils there.
Am I crazy or does anyone else pick up on that?
October 4th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
The Phils need to put it together! The Brewers got two runs in the first inning, and it takes us until the SIXTH to put ONE up on the board? I don’t understand what is going on with our offense. We can’t get through the post-season without putting the bat to the ball and getting on base.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Everyone relax. Worse case scenario we get to knock Sabatthia around again and celebrate the victory at our place. It kinda reminds me of the Flyers against the caps last year. Remeber they took the 3-1 lead and got pushed to a game 7.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
The umpires gambled on the Brewers. The Brewers gambled on Bush. The Phils gambled away getting the first man up on base multiple times. The Phils gambled that they thought they knew where the strike zone was and never got it back until the ninth inning. Feliz took the biggest gamble on his first pitch in the ninth. Victorino gambled on trying to take out the second baseman without a weapon. Life’s a gamble, you try, you fail, and you get up the next morning and try again.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
I know that it is still in our favor, especially against Suppan tomorrow. I just feel cheated because Brian Runge called an awful first couple innings against Moyer, putting us in a hole early. And on top of that, he called the very same pitches strikes for Bush, putting all of our hitters in 0-2 protecting counts.
Just feel like he cheated us and put our team in a lock up mode.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Well Suppan hasn’t been that good this year he has a 4.96 ERA…It just a matter of if our offense comes to life or if they make him look like Greg Maddux.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
I’m nervous b/c Suppan is a tested playoff experienced pitcher with some big games in his past (LCS and World Series a few years back with the Cards). Meanwhile, I don’t think Blanton has any.
I don’t want to face Sabathia again…
October 4th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Blanton doesn’t appear to be the kind of guy who gets nervous. He just seems kinda dead emotionally out there so maybe that’ll work in our favor. We gotta score some runs; however or it doesn’t matter who we put on the mound!
October 4th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
Suppan blows – he’s the second worst pitcher in MLB making 8+mil a year to Adam Eaton. We better be able to come alive offensively again Suppan, because I don’t like our chances facing Sabathia for a second time in game 5.
I’d throw Hamels tomorrow. If Blanton goes out there and stinks it up, we are going to have to use Hamels in 5, and he would be unavailable in game one of the next series. If you throw Hamels tomorrow, he would be ready for game one of the next series. The only thing would be that tomorrow’s game, and then game one of the next series would both be on 3 days rest, and we all know how Hamels feels about pitching on short rest.
Aside from the offense not hitting, and the umpire squeezing Moyer, Uncle Chalie didn’t help the cause at all. Victorino comes off of an AMAZING game, and what does he do – drops him back down to 6 in the order. I would have left him in the 2-hole where he could have as many at bats as possible. Don’t get me wrong, Werth has been decent in the playoffs, but Victorino has clearly been the best player who deserves as many at bats as possible. Werth is ONLY good in the 2-hole when they face a garbage lefty, other than that he should be hitting 5, 6. I’d like to see him bat 5 and move Burrell back in the order. Also, why doesn’t Coste pinch hit for Ruiz in the 9th? Ruiz has no bat, and the only way the Phils had a chance with 2 outs was to pop one, cuz I can’t trust this team to do the small things to manufacture a run.
On a separate note, it would be nice if Utley decided to join us for the playoff run. This is the second year that Utley has decided to not show up for the playoffs, and frankly this team needs him to hit to have a chance.
Howard has been okay, but could improve. I would say he has done well considering they are pitching away from him.
Burrell sucks – I’d like to usher that guy out of town myself. If the Phils give him money to play here next season they are out of their minds.
Let’s not reinvent the wheel again uncle charlie, tomorrow lineup should be:
1.Rollins
2.Victorino
3.Utley
4.Howard
5.Werth
6.Burrell
7.Feliz
8.Ruiz
9.Hamels
October 5th, 2008 at 4:49 am
I think that you would want to sit Burrell on Sunday and let Dobbs play one of the outfield corners for an offensive boost. I am so weary of watching Burrell do nothing at the plate.
