Posted by Tim Malcolm, Thu, October 23, 2008 05:19 PM

Game 2 : 2008 World Series
Phillies lead 1-0
Philadelphia Phillies at Tampa Bay Rays
Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg
8:29 p.m. / 72, fair
Brett Myers (10-13 4.55 ERA) vs. James Shields (14-8, 3.56 ERA)
Brett Myers takes the mound in game two of the World Series agiainst the Rays. James Shields goes for Tampa Bay, who trails the Phils 1-0 in the series.
News & Notes
Myers is 2-0 with a 5.25 ERA in the postseason, with a bunch of runs coming off the bat of Manny Ramirez. … Shields is 1-2 with a 3.72 ERA in the postseason. … Phillies hitters haven’t seen much of Shields, besides Matt Stairs, who has just three hits off him in 20 at bats. One was a home run. … Brett Myers hasn’t seen the Rays, either, but has faced Cliff Floyd a bunch. The lefty is 12-for-33 against Myers with three home runs. … The Rays hit .267 against right-handed pitching, while just .246 against lefties. … The Rays hit just .230 against “power” pitchers, of which Myers could be described as. Against “finesse” pitchers, the Rays rake at .280. … Greg Dobbs is your designated hitter, while Pedro Feliz plays third base, mainly because of the turf.
The Lineup
Jimmy Rollins / SS
Jayson Werth / RF
Chase Utley / 2B
Ryan Howard / 1B
Pat Burrell / LF
Shane Victorino / CF
Greg Dobbs / DH
Pedro Feliz / 3B
Carlos Ruiz / C
Your Gamenight Beer
Here’s Anchor Steam’s Anchor Porter. A very good beer, it’ll fill you up right while you watch the offense go to work in game two. Myers needs a good start, something like 6 IP, 2 ER, 5 K? Just something good. Nothing would taste sweeter than a 2-0 lead coming home, and the Redneck Express can bring it tonight. Let’s do it!
Go Phillies!

Surprised Charlie didn’t go with Dobbs at 3rd and Stairs at DH.
October 23rd, 2008 at 5:33 pm
Can we have Myers DH for Howard?
October 23rd, 2008 at 5:33 pm
I think last night was proof that you need the better fielder at 3B. That win last night could be attributed to Feliz’ fantastic play.
October 23rd, 2008 at 5:35 pm
LET’S GO PHILLIES!!!
Winning this game would be huge.
October 23rd, 2008 at 5:38 pm
Why didn’t they go with Stairs for the DH? Since he was a DH with the Blue Jays, he is more experienced as a DH than Dobbs.
October 23rd, 2008 at 5:44 pm
how much exp. do u need from a DH, dobber is the better hitter, that’s what DH’s do… hit…
October 23rd, 2008 at 5:45 pm
There’s really not a lot to being a DH, and in fact, that could suit Dobbs, as all he’s doing is preparing for his batting spot each time.
October 23rd, 2008 at 6:15 pm
Tim, very good point. Stairs may have been a DH before, but Dobbs sits around all game waiting for his one at bat. Now he’ll just get to do that a few times, it’s almost like pinch hitting 4 times in one game for him.
October 23rd, 2008 at 6:29 pm
2 hours until game time.
October 23rd, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Why am I as nervous tonight up 1-0 as I was last night before it all began? I’ll tell you what I’ve learned from this WS – If I had all the physical prowess of the best athletes, I still couldn’t do what they do. I don’t have the nerves!
October 23rd, 2008 at 6:39 pm
Stairs is not DH tonight b/c he is 3 for 20 vs Shields.
October 23rd, 2008 at 6:43 pm
I like Dobbs as DH and Feliz and his glove at 3B. I wish Chollie would separate Utley and Howard, but that’s never going to happen. Let’s go Phils!
October 23rd, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Do you think Brett Myers will have a fantastic start tonight?
October 23rd, 2008 at 7:32 pm
1 hour to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 7:35 pm
I was at Chickie and Pete’s last night….absolute insanity. Only in Philadelphia!!!! I love Red October. I was also informed about this website and SuperLogoz.com and they have some nice gear at SuperLogoz.com.
Check it out. I was told if the Phillies win, everyone gets 10% off the site!
October 23rd, 2008 at 7:42 pm
I was at the game last night and it was absolutely nuts….a rays fan actually threw a cow bell at me….great win for the Phightin’ Phils ….and we’re definitely at a disadvantage since brett won’t be hitting….. GO PHILS!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 7:43 pm
I saw an interesting article from Bill Madden in todays NY Daily News regarding the NL East.He spoke with Pat Gillick and he basically backhandedly thanked the Mets because the teams in the NL East hate the dancing and theatrics of the Mets and how the other teams always got a rise when playing them. Now not taking anything away from the Phils,I tend to question did the rest of the NL East teams caddilac (Or however its spelled) or really try their Damnest vs the Phillies?
October 23rd, 2008 at 7:45 pm
wow, that’s the first time I thought of the Mets in the last 3 weeks. I forgot about them.
Let’s go Phils!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 7:53 pm
lol,I think everyone forgot about the Amazins. However when I saw what was said by an outgoing GM in Pat Gillick, that wasn’t cool.We know the Mets blew it,and if the rest of the NL East had a hard on to beat the Mets, than they should have found a way to win…..they DIDN’T bottom line. And now its 104 days till pitchers and catchers.Hot Stove League can’t come soon enough.
October 23rd, 2008 at 7:54 pm
TIme to turn to Fox.
It’s 8 o’clock.
October 23rd, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Can’t say I really want to think about Mets or Mets fans during a Phillies World Series. I could feel bad for them, but that would take too much energy.
This site and this series is about the Phillies.
October 23rd, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Volunteer…..keep the sympathy…I certainly don’t want it nor do the Amazins deserve it either.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:05 pm
I sooo want to see Brett do well tonight…
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:06 pm
I want to hear a normal National Anthem.
This is not. It is very weird.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Let’s hope Brett can go at least 7 innings with less than 2 runs given up.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:08 pm
Let’s hope Brett can go at least 7 innings with no more than 2 runs given up.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:10 pm
lets go Phillies!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:11 pm
amen, let’s go Brett.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:16 pm
Dallas Green is announcing the phillies lineup for fox!!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:17 pm
alright nation, let’s struggle through the crap announcing and get up two-zip
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Game final underway, NOW.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:23 pm
what a shocker, another pop up for pull-happy J-Roll
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:26 pm
I’m a little surprised with Werth in the No. 2 spot…
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:28 pm
well, at least he threw 19 pitches
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:28 pm
We got Shields to throw a good amount of pitches, so…not that bad.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:30 pm
3 Up. 3 down. BOOOOO.
Now The Brett Myers Show.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:30 pm
Said it last night, and with the exception of Werth tonight, these guys have to get on top of the ball.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:30 pm
Brett, spotlight’s on you!
Show em what you got!!!!!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:32 pm
That walk seemed like the result of not playing for a while
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:33 pm
A walk. Not a good way to start the inning off.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:34 pm
oh crap
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:34 pm
oh no…>
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:34 pm
definitely not a good start. come on brett
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:35 pm
this is not good.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Not going so great.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:37 pm
is it me or does it seem as if brett is rushing
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:37 pm
he’s throwing too much off speed stuff and not locating the fast ball
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Oh crap! Dr. Jekyll showed up showed up when we needed Brett Hyde.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Brett needs to settle down.
At least he got an out.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:38 pm
probably should’ve gone with moyer tonight and let brett play game 3 at home so he could get the home crowd support… and use his bat too
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:38 pm
He’s so gonna walk EvaN
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:39 pm
…or not
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:39 pm
this reminds me of last night, except in reverse.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:39 pm
damn guess that’s the way to drive home the runner. come on phils.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:40 pm
props to Howard on that play. It sucks that they got a walk and a single and scored 2 runs. Oh well.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Ok, looks like he got it at the end of the inning. It could’ve been worse with guys on 2nd and 3rd and no outs!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Myers needs to start pumping in some gas if he wants to keep himself at the top of anyones rotation
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:40 pm
we still got this Mike
Brett has yet to bat…
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:41 pm
At least he only gave up 2 runs and threw 17 pitches (less than shields).
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:41 pm
I don’t get what just happened, shouldn’t we have had the infield in?
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:42 pm
phan in TN did you forget we’re in tampa?
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:43 pm
HOWARD IS BACK FOOLS!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Howard got a double!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:43 pm
yes! howard!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:43 pm
finally!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:44 pm
good AB Ryan, as bad as he is against lefties, he is the MAN against righties. Let’s get a run home this inning.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:44 pm
Yeah. What a way to start the inning Howard.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:46 pm
isn’t Tampa an AL park? DH carp rule in effect
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:46 pm
Alright!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:46 pm
nice job Pat. Come on Shane!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:46 pm
come on vic! a big hit would be so sweet right now!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:46 pm
way to hold up pat!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:47 pm
What a way to help the team, Pat.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:47 pm
what a terrible AB
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:47 pm
HOrrible AB Victorino…You dont swing at the first pitch right after they walk pat!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:47 pm
terrible at bat for Victorino
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:49 pm
I’ll pretend that wild pitch was Victorino grounding out, moving the runners
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:49 pm
dammit guys, don’t waste this, please!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:49 pm
never swung! come on!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:50 pm
not so great for Dobbs either
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:51 pm
well, that’s the difference in the game so far. They got productive outs, we popped up, struck out and lined out
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:51 pm
OHHHHHHHHHH…I thought that was a hit…. dammit!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:51 pm
DAMMIT! that was almost good
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:51 pm
ugh, we need to score those runs
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:51 pm
what is going on with the situational hitting??
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:51 pm
make that 0-16 with runners in scoring position this series
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:52 pm
And they continue to piss away opportunities….
Did I mention I thought they should have started Stairs at DH instead of Dobbs?
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Once again, we waste a lead off double…
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:52 pm
i will be bald by the end of this series!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:52 pm
the 0 fers continues into game 2
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Could not get it done, again.
Pitch count for shields is 39 pitches.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Do you guys get the feeling the bats just seem frightened with RISP?
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:53 pm
I have that sick feeling right now. Can’t believe this.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Runner at 3rd AGAIN with less than 2 outs… no runs.
Not good.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:53 pm
The reason Stairs isn’t starting is he’s 3 for 20 against Shields
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:54 pm
I don’t blame Dobbs too much for that strikeout… He was patient and it didn’t work..he was in the 0-2 hole right from the start… Tough to get anything done in that situation, though all we needed was a productive out.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:55 pm
What a great play by J-Roll.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:55 pm
great play Jimmy
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:55 pm
Yeah a hit to the right side by Dobbs scores a run
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:56 pm
can joe buck be in the tank any more fore the rays! navarro get’s his first hit. (shut up)
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:57 pm
The problem is these guys have gone back to seeming uneasy at the plate and the pitcher is almost always seeming to have the advantage. The pitch count for Shields is going up rapidly but the Phils aren’t getting in his head.
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:57 pm
I’ve got O’Briend and Sutcliffe on the commentary here, apparently this is the real game 1 for the Rays…
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Great…the umpires are ALSO for the Rays
THIS IS A SHAME
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:58 pm
What the hell was that?
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:58 pm
another break for the Rays
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:59 pm
ugh, dumb ump
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:59 pm
should’ve started Moyer
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Jesus why is everything going wrong??!?!?!?!?!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:59 pm
forget the swing the pitch was a strike
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:59 pm
wowza, they got a bouncing ball up the middle, a strikeout for a walk and a 10 foot single. The baseball Gods are not on our side tonight.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:00 pm
yikes! terrible calls there. kinda surprised buck and mccarver are backing the phils on that, but then again it was clearly a botched call
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:00 pm
Kerwin Danley has sucked all year. How he got into the World Series is beyond me. You know you screwed up if Buck and McCarver are saying you screwed up..
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Don’t blame Dobbs? Get the bat off your $%#(@ shoulder!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:01 pm
THIS IS BS… Myers was pitching well!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Does anyone else get scared when Myers gets ahead 0-2?
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Bases loaded. Brett is not going to last long.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:02 pm
that was a small bit of fairness there
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:02 pm
I said “I don’t blame Dobbs TOO MUCH”….emphasis on TOO MUCH
Obviously he SO.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Worst call ever.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:03 pm
CHOOCH IS A ROCK!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:03 pm
k, 3-0.
come on Phillies
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:03 pm
good D by werth and ruiz there, but dammit we really gotta pick up the offense here
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Bullshit call there on Baldelli.
0-3 with RISP, great job so far.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:03 pm
nice job Cooch, but we’re down 3 already, shit.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:03 pm
A run that should not have scored. Nice play by Chooch to keep the Danley Damage to a minimum
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Anyone starting to think if we reach game 7, we’ll just let the bullpen pitch half the game?
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:04 pm
What a great throw by Werth.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:05 pm
why is no one madder??? That was one of the worst calls in history. You cannot signal a man out and than defer to the first base ump!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:06 pm
lets hope for a rainout on Sat so Hamels pitches 3 games
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Wow, Chooch ripped that ball.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:06 pm
yeah Cooch. Now we can go 0-3 with RISP for the 2nd inning in a row
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:06 pm
CHOOCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE LETS GET A RUN IN!!!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:06 pm
nice double Ruiz, can we get him in for a change?
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:07 pm
lead off runner… come on guys, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don’t waste this opportunity!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:07 pm
werth just redeemed himself
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Myers already has 32 pitches. Great double by Ruiz.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:07 pm
cmon guys!!!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Oh boy, another RISP!!!!! Can’t see how this one will end.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:08 pm
0-17
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:09 pm
Hey, situational hitting! No way!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:09 pm
Let’s go Shaggy!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Cmon at deep fly ball to get chooch in!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Damn, that was a pitch to hit there.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:10 pm
This ump reminds me of that idiot we had to deal with in Milwaukee when Moyer pitched…He isn’t giving Myers any pitches and that guy cleary swung at that pitch and the dumb thing is he rung him up and the had a check swing…Their prolly betting money on the game.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:10 pm
don’t strike out jason
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:10 pm
0-18
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:10 pm
ugh
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:10 pm
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Can we score at least one!!???
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:11 pm
Let’s go Utley. Get a hit.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:11 pm
Oh jesus jumped up tap dancing christ on a cracker are you F**cking joking?
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:11 pm
HOW CAN HE NOT GET JUST GET DAMN CONTACT…..all we want is CONTACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:11 pm
0-19
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:11 pm
Just terrible. This is gonna be a tough game to watch.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:12 pm
k, tired of this stupid RISP
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:12 pm
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!!?!?!? OMG
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Please let’s forget that 0-19 stat…it’s haunting us. I don’t plan on mentioning it again…
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:12 pm
BTW it’s looking like the layoff might be affecting the Phils hitter because were like 0-50 with RISP.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:13 pm
GRRRRRRRRR
Howard will probably hit a leadoff triple and then get left at 3rd next inning.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:13 pm
RISPLOB… it’s gonna be the death of us this game, and if it keeps up, the entire series.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Don’t blame Werth there — He tried.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:13 pm
So much for the whole duck therapy. These guys are tighter than ever.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Can’t get it down. At least Shields has 53 pitches in 3 innings.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:19 pm
It’s not the lay-off they’ve been like this all year. Situationally they try and slug first instead of aiming for the situational and slugging if they get the pitch, for Werth it was simple just put the ball in play but he wasn’t focused.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Werth still had that duck up his —
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Another leadoff hit. That’s almost a bad thing at this point.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Kyle who should we blame. Werth looked foolish at the plate!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:22 pm
oo more RISP talk
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:23 pm
gotta love Victorino’s speed
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Myers has actually pitched well tonight. We should be winning this freaking game.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Great inning by Myers! And nice hit by Howard… Good baserunning by Vic..
Now, a run please
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:24 pm
a hit with RISP….and it’s an infield single that doesn’t score a run…I’ll take it!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Think Dobbs wll swing this at bat?
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:24 pm
wow there are a lot of phillies fans down there!
lets go phillies!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Ugh lets see how they screw up with RISP this time.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:26 pm
wtf….how can you just look lost at the plate???
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:27 pm
I’ve never seen Dobbs look this bad.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:27 pm
ugh Dobbs, two Ks
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:27 pm
I have to agree that Dobbs isn’t seeing the ball at all.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:27 pm
Lets stop beating a dead horse with that RISP LOB… We got it, ok?
damn
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Chuck – I was making fun of someone who earlier said not to blame Dobbs for his fail to get the run in in the 2nd (and now the 4th!) innings. HE TRIED.
And I quote:
# Manny Says:
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:54 pm
I don’t blame Dobbs too much for that strikeout… He was patient and it didn’t work..he was in the 0-2 hole right from the start… Tough to get anything done in that situation, though all we needed was a productive out.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:28 pm
I dislike Dobbs right now, truly I do….
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Buck is wrong, Victorino just got a single with RISP
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:28 pm
take Dobbs out of the F$*)ing game please!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Dear lord, this offense is pathetic right now.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:28 pm
blahhh
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:28 pm
this is comical. Seriously, comical. We have given away this game. Wow, I feel like puking.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:29 pm
DOBBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:30 pm
That was horrible AB by Dobbs. Ugly, ugly.
Kyle: there was clearly a difference between this K and the first one. This one was all Dobbs. The first one was mostly Shields. That’s all I’m saying, so give me a break. What a pest.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Pathetic, I love this team to death but righ now they aweful, pained and sorry for themselves. THIS IS THE WORLD SERIES FOR GOD SAKE GET PUMPED UP AND START PLAYING WITH SOME GODDAM ENERGY!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:35 pm
This game could easily be tied right now if our hitter weren’t playing like garbage.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:35 pm
Myers needs correction after the first inning. Home plate umpire needs correction after the second inning. Offense needs correction after the second, third, and fourth inning0073. Myers has settled down. Hopefully the ump has, and he better wish this isn’t a one run game. Please someone give the Phillies ‘Wite Out’ to wash away their offensive wrongs and start playing right. Keep the faith, the Phils are hitting Shields and just have to finish the job.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:35 pm
Seriously, Stairs IS a DH by trade…..he knows this park WHY DOBBS?????!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:35 pm
This is pathetic. Madre de dios.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:37 pm
oh look they scored
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:38 pm
I get home from work to find it 4-0….sheesh. Radio made it sound like missed opportunities galore mixed with a couple bad umpiring.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Actually Myers is not pitching a bad game.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:41 pm
if we can just break the 0-20 these guys might relax a bit
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:42 pm
With the off day tomorrow somebody better wake up up the our offense because if we continue to play like this, this series is gonna be over soon.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Myers has been good… This game should be tied. It’s not like Shield has been dominating us all night.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:43 pm
does a lead off walk get better support than lead off hits?
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:43 pm
From what I heard on the radio, Werth’s error and the strikeout, then changed mind call, pretty much accounted for 3 of the Rays 4 runs.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:43 pm
apparently not
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Myers is NOT pitching well. At least whoever thinks so is watching a different game than I am. Granted, a lot of the hits may be seeing-eye grounders and all, but he hasn’t been nasty or inducing strikeouts.
Offensively, we’re horseshit right now. These RISP are killing us. Victorino can tell people to shove the “o-fers” up their collective behinds, but the fact remains…they suck at moving runners over and getting runs in. It will be the death of us unless they can pick it up.
Myers won’t last much longer at the rate he’s going, and unless the offense starts to wake up and play baseball, we’re going home 1-1. There’s plenty of game left, but we can’t afford to give up these runs one by one to Tampa when we’re getting nothing in return!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Not happening. The offense hasn’t been good or patient at all. Lets face it. And if the offense isn’t happening, they aren’t going to win games that Hamels doesn’t start.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:45 pm
This game is beyond pathetic!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:46 pm
finally werth!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:47 pm
there we go werth, now let’s do something chase
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Sweet…two on with one out. NOW LETS GET SOME RUNS!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:47 pm
They need at least a run this inning. The situational hitting has been atrocious.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:47 pm
oh right, RISP time, time to get it going
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:47 pm
I think I’m watching a different game than some of you. I truly think we can get 2, 3 runs from Shields and win this game. We’ve been getting hits here and there for most of the game.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:48 pm
crap, we suck today
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:48 pm
I give up on this game
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Any questions?
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:48 pm
well that’s it.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Christ. These idiots are playing like t-ballers.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:48 pm
this game is really really rough to watch.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:48 pm
That’s unacceptable. Werth should ride the pine after that.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:49 pm
ok, now they are just inventing new ways to shoot themselves in the foot.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Really Manny? 2 or 3 runs in four innings? How many have we got in the previous 14 total?
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:49 pm
I just shut it off! World Series or not, this game is pathetic and it doesn’t derserve my time!
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:49 pm
I could not have said it better NEPA
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Don’t give up. If anything, this team can have a big inning anytime. This is how we got into the Series. We have FOUR more innings to do this and it’s not like all of our guys are slumping.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:50 pm
4 straight innings with a lead off runner and none of them score
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:50 pm
I’m done watching the game…Every inning it becomes more and more frustrating.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Ugh. Well, I guess I didn’t figure we’d be fortunate enough to sweep the Rays, but come on. For Christsakes…execute a little.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Nothing is working tonight…this is nuts
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Greg V – I’ll let it slide because it’s a commercial break. Just so happen to tune back in, in two minutes.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:51 pm
I can’t take this anymore.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:52 pm
Manny you’re nuts
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:53 pm
They didn’t play well last night (offensively); they won with superb pitching from hamels-mad-lidge.
Unless you give up 3 or fewer runs you have no shot. Werth, who has been great, has had an awful game. A terrible error that cost Myers at least 1 run, a strikeout with a runner on third and one out, and the most bone-headed of all, getting doubled off first with two on and ryan howard coming up on a fly ball. Just awful play. The offense looks completely over-matched.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:54 pm
they look overmatched and Shields is really not that dominating
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:54 pm
geesh, another error
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Ok that error just killed nearly all of my hopes.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:54 pm
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:55 pm
this is freakin ridiculous
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Wow…. we just suck tonight….
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Thank god we won game one or I would be losing my mind right now.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Myers has 60 pitches in 4 2/3, while Shields has 80 pitches in 5.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:57 pm
hmm, can this inning be the big inning?
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:58 pm
I think once we knockout Shields, we are going to score some runs.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:58 pm
ok…..we got out of that maybe………things will now change for us.
allright I realize I’m out of my mind
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Winning one game on the road is especially difficult when it’s game one. I think we carry momentum home with us even if we so happen to lose tonight.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:59 pm
if we can just make it a 2 run game in this inning we are back in
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Chuck – say what you want to about Shields, the fact is there is still a giant ZERO next to the Phillies on the scoreboard.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Crazier things and comebacks have happened in the World Series before. There is still time, despite how frustrating this game has been.
October 23rd, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Chuckie needs to rally the troops and give them Patton type speech
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:00 pm
tj, did you really think we would do better than a split??
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:00 pm
We gotta have have a big inning soon or later…Shield pitch count is much higher then Myers.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:01 pm
yeah kyle I’m painfully aware
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:02 pm
I hear ya SJ Mike. It’s not like Shields has been throwing a no-hitter
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:02 pm
This will not be the big inning.
Nor will the next.
Or any other inning tonight.
Just isnt gonna happen. Too many early LOBs.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:03 pm
I really hate that freakin’ shift.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:03 pm
well now that we didn’t get the lead off runner on what happens now?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Shields just reached the 90 pitch mark.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Yea, I don’t see a big comeback tonight. Too many opportunities missed already tonight. It’s coming home 1-1 I think. But I’ve been wrong more than a few times with this team.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Why is everyone so concerned with Shield’s pitch count? Do you guys think it gets easier or something? Howell, Balfour, Price, Bradford are all nasty.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Can someone explain to me what a cowbell has in common with stingrays? Seriously.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:06 pm
How is that comeback brewing? It isn’t a fluke, it’s 15 innings of ball right now.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:07 pm
It might be easier. It could not get any worse.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:08 pm
SJ, I was wondering the same thing. Where the hell did the cowbell thing come from? I mean, I know the whole Will Ferrell cowbell thing, but what does it have to do with Tampa? Seriously?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:08 pm
Dobbs needs to relax
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:09 pm
It was something I heard on Preston and Steve this morning. They were questioning the whole cowbell relationship to stingrays also.
They were also going off on how much the Backstreet Boys sucked last night.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:10 pm
They used to do the cowbell thing in Ebbets field in Brooklyn. The Rays owner is from Brooklyn and he brought the stupid tradition to Tampa. Yay.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:10 pm
Yes, Philly Fan from NY – it could get worse. At least we’re getting a lot of baserunners and opportunities going off Shields. Might not get those against that very good bullpen.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:10 pm
Alright! Now we need Pedro to homer
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:10 pm
well looks like we have another RISP lol
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:11 pm
Wheeler will be crushed
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:11 pm
crap, Dan Wheeler is coming in. That means that they’ve made David Price their closer. Not good for us!
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:11 pm
The Rays bullpen is primarily fastball hurlers. A lot less offspeed stuff which has been killing us with RISP.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:12 pm
We finally got to Shields.
NOW, Let’s get some RUNS!!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:12 pm
yea, Shields is gone, woo
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Griffin, thanks for the clarification. It makes more sense now (although I think it is still dumb).
When fans need objects to help get the place loud, then that is pathetic. Wait til these Rays get to Citizens Bank Park and the 45 thousand get loud with nothing but their voices.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:13 pm
The funny thing is it always seems to be teams with domes or roofs that need noise makers. What, the enclosed stadium doesn’t reverberate enough with voices?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:14 pm
I’m really not that scared with Price pitching later in the game. He’s been hailed as the next baseball god and I don’t think he’s proven that yet.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:14 pm
I found this article about how the Rays started the cowbells… http://www.channel10.com/news/mostpop/story.aspx?storyid=92342&provider=top
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:15 pm
I was thinking of using Stairs there too. Oh well.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Why am I agreeing with Buck and McCarver here? What the hell is wrong with me? Why does Stairs not play?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:16 pm
k we’re never gonna score
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:16 pm
Phillies ARE going to lose tonight.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:16 pm
Another waste….
Manuel is killing me here, along with Werth. Werth for the Jeltz award?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:17 pm
this is beyond ridiculous now
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Well done, Pedro….
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:17 pm
maybe 7-1 like my coworkers predicted is accurate tonight. well, if we manage to score 1. even a blind squirrel sometimes finds a nut.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:17 pm
PF from NY I pretty much figured that when Werth got doubled off first base.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:17 pm
How did we *get* to Shields? Don’t we still have ZERO runs?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Well…still got 9 outs to play with…..
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Is Manuel losing his touch with his lineups? It’s a horrible time for it.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Just get back to Philly man…we need every fan in the Bank to make the Rays players miserable…pregame, postgame…all game. And at the hotel – razz them, wake em up in the middle of the night, and f*ck with the temperature controls in their rooms.
Same goes for the umpiring crew. After that bullsh*t f*ckin missed out strike out call to Baldelli, I really wouldn’t mind the fans letting those idiots have it.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Our clutch hitting is nonexistant….
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:19 pm
McCarver asked why Stairs wasn’t PHing. Bigger question……..why wasn’t he in the game as DH?????
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:19 pm
This same Rays bullpen did give up 7 runs with 7 outs already this postseason.
And thanks Fox for constantly showing Joe Carter’s homerun.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:20 pm
thanks for showing the ‘93 World Series again
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:20 pm
I hate Fox….
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Chuck – because Dobbs is the better hitter.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Too bad Myers couldn’t pitch like this in the early innings. He did have the B.S. non-strikeout that was, and the error, but still…he was not making good pitches and putting hitters away like he is now.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:21 pm
piss-poor performance by the Phils in every department, you don’t win ballgames in any part of the year by saying bring your B game and I’ll help you out with the rest. Can someone please break this down and tell me why there isn’t the “we’ve come to win” attitude?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Yeah, stairs was 3 for 20 lifetime against Shields. So, I mean, not the worst decision not to play him, but he definitely needs to see at least one of these relievers before the night is out.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Myers has been really good today except for the 1st inning.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:22 pm
And nobody should complain about them showing the Carter-Williams video. It’s the 15 year anniversary and the Phillies haven’t been in the WS since – completely appropriate. The 18 other times they’ve showed it this postseason, not so much.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Myers has been very solid
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:22 pm
It’s too bad the offense shat all over themselves, because Myers has done his job. He got the 6 innings, 2 runs Tim asked for in his gamenight post.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Finally another 1-2-3 inning.
Myers only has 71 pitches through 6 innings.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Can some one PLEASE explain to me why Joe F**k and Timc McHARDfor are all over the Rays c*cks? When the Phils scored last night it was all ho-hum. The Rays score and they act like its the next coming up G-d. UGH! Why does Joe Buck annoy me so much?? Someone needs to punch him in the throat!
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:24 pm
So no one’s questioning not having the infield in in the first? Two runs is two runs, and we could’ve done something about them. Myers has pitched a good game so far, he’s really done his best to keep us in this game.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:25 pm
I actually think Myers pitched well tonight. The two runs in the first came after that error and those RBI groundouts would’ve been a doubleplay and an inning ender, so he would not have given up a run. The third run came after the strikeout/walk to Baldelli and the 4th run came after a broken bat bloop, a 20 hopper to the outfield, a groundout and a squeeze play. Myers didn’t pitch too badly tonight.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Considering the botched strikeout and Werth’s error, Myers has kept the team in the game, within range to come back.
The offense just needs to do its job for once.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:26 pm
NEPA Maybe Dobbs has better numbers BUT Stairs is a DH and knows this park. Dobbs should have started at 3rd
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Do they want us to feel bad for that dude with the muscle fatigue disease? I mean, sorry FOX, I don’t feel bad for anyone playing a sport. That is their choice. UGH, get over yourselves FOX and Rays!
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:27 pm
Myers hasn’t been dominating but he’s has pitched well enough. The Phillies are just stinking it up
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:27 pm
Solid? 6 hits, 3 walks, in his first four or five? Mmm…not my definition of “very solid,” but whatever…
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:28 pm
The only guy that can take any satisfaction from their individual performance in this game is Carlos Ruiz
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Myers will give up hits. Weren’t most of them singles, some of which seeing eye gimmie singles?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:29 pm
a lot of those hits were infield hits and bloops. The only hard hit off of him was Upton’s single in the first.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:29 pm
what about victornio’s ADHD they should talk about that
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:29 pm
Hopefully the offense can come to life when we get this game back to the bank…Like AC in NJ said lets make it loud and miserable when the Rays come to town, thats how we got CC Sabathia.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:29 pm
way to work it CRuiz
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:29 pm
Isn’t Marza an awful road pitcher, also?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Garza I mean.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:30 pm
NJ, chooch can’t even enjoy his day that much… he had that one error
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Stairs is the biggest HR threat off the bench. I’d rather keep that bullet for later in the game when you can plug him in at a time when there’s some runners on base, like last inning.
Chooch has looked great tonight at the plate.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:30 pm
I agree with McCarver about the RBI program, here’s to more minorities in baseball!
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Chooch is the only one who’s come to the plate with saying if your going to get me out you better bring it and actually executed.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Another lead off guy on. Let’s wake the f up now
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:32 pm
dammit, jimmy should’ve swung at that 2-1 pitch. it was right down the middle.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Please Jimmy for once come through here.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:33 pm
That was a good pitch to swing at for Rollins. He just wiffed.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Chooch has been great today except for that error. He’s been looking great offensively.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Nice sentiment Brian but the team out there tonight doesn’t want to win, you don’t mail it in like they have tonight unless you expect to loose.
The Rays are playing the very definition of smallball, get a couple of runs and stand aside and let the other team f*ck it up.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:34 pm
nice series so far J-Roll. Good night everyone, let’s get them on Saturday.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Yea Rollins looks like he’s in another world, that was a perfect pitch to hit.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:34 pm
btw that should have been howard’s error.
Rollins looks like shit, still don’t understand werth in the 2 hole tonight needed victorino there tonight
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Griffin, this is about the same time Red Sox fans said goodnight on that 7-0 game. And we’re only losing 4-0.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:36 pm
I hope we don’t burn Madson in the vain hope we can win this one, too many failed chances to expect a rally to amount to anything worth using up any core piece of the pen.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:38 pm
ugh Werth, die game 2 die
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:38 pm
Isn’t all this hype on Price based off of like 3 total innings?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:38 pm
my anus is more of a phenom than David Price
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Definitly Werth for the Jeltz award.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Yeah but the Red Sox weren’t in a streak of over 20 at bats with a runner in scoring postion without a run scored…
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Did you notice the fox trax on the last pitch of the Werth strike out – low and outside. Sorry, this asshole behind home plate is a terrible ump. I hope MLB rings his sorry ass up and never lets him on another WS crew again.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Hey what do the Phillies and a prostatute have in common?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:41 pm
I’ve been wishing I cold bring myself to turn this off since the 2nd inning.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Knocking down Price would be beautiful and shut those Fox guys up
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Anybody else find it funny that in the highlights for the Fox Copyright, the clip they show of Chipper Jones is for one of the skills he has the least of at his age and condition: running.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:41 pm
AC, Danley he has been terrible all season. Absolutely no way he should be on this crew.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Lets be fair Price is a legit phenom
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Josh in DC hit it on the head about Joe F*CK – worst damn announcer in baseball. I hope the Philly fans assault his sorry ass on the way out after Game 5.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:42 pm
why the hell do they keep calling him a weapon? i’m so sick of these douches.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:42 pm
anyone wanna join me in punching the Fox crew in the throat?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:43 pm
If Howard’s bat touches one of those 97 mph Price heaters, he’s going to “Moonshot Matty Stairs” it.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:43 pm
Howard up with 2 men on.
Let’s go Howard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:43 pm
NJ, they both have “flow” problems?
Does anyone else think Howard pops out on the first pitch here?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:43 pm
Ugh here comes Howard.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:44 pm
How was that a strike?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:44 pm
Howard 0-2 here. Don’t see anything good happening here.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:44 pm
I am not being a sore loser or anything, but why is FOX so far up the Rays ass?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:44 pm
Notice how they shut the Fox Trax off? Maybe they realized it showed how bad Danley was…
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Nope, they both enjoyed getting f*cked and being paid for it.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Did Charlie bench Burrell for Bruntlett yet?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:45 pm
!@#!@! HOWARD!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Just don’t have it tonight fellas.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:46 pm
this ump behind the plate is very inconsistent
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Is the comeback starting late tonight?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:46 pm
This sort of thing can carry over, too. Ask any Yankees fan over the last few years….
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Last pitch on the Howard strike out – see Fox Trax – also outside. Danley sucks – fu*king a**hole. Somebody please get a bat and beat the sh*t out of him in Philly.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Anyone know who is singing the National Anthem in Philly? Wouldnt shock me to see it be Boyz II Men considering they arent doing much these days
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Hopefully
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Did the strike zone just get larger?
Umps are pathetic
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Well at least were seeing alot of this Rays bullpen and getting a feel for how they pitch.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Joshin, Taylor Swift and Patti Labelle.
I think Tim McGraw is throwing out first pitch for Game 3 also.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:48 pm
do any of these Rays fans know there was a team there for the past 11 years and not the past 11 weeks?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Does MLB have a web address where fans can send comments re: piss poor umpires? Or is the policy simply to send those comments to the Danley household?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:49 pm
seriously all the media’s coverage is pro rays. tommrow there will be a 15 page story in the paper. today there was barely a blurb..
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:49 pm
Check out on ESPN video at ESPN.com. They did a video interviewing Rays fans in a sarcastic manner about how long suffering they are. Some of them said they’ve been suffering for 7 years. Some said several weeks. No kidding.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:49 pm
they were due for one of these….absolutely horrible performance. they swung at low sliders and changeups form shields. they should have knocked him out of the yard. if they lose tonight theyve still wiped out homefield advantage. theyll still win. garza gets shelled in game 3.
maybe the rays pen blows it tonight. but it looks like1-1. now, the philes got their crappy game out of the way, time to play baseball now
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:49 pm
well, looking ahead we are in some serious shit if we don’t remember how to hit before Saturday. I think Moyer will be ok especially at home.
Rollins needs to get his head out of his ass, as do werth, howard, dobbs and anyone else holding a bat with risp.
The scary part is that when this team goes into funks like this it usually ain’t too pretty for a while
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:50 pm
AC, the Umpires union website has an email address. I’ve actually sent mail there before based off of what Brian Runge did to Jamie Moyer in Game 3 of the NLDS.
You won’t get much of a response though.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:50 pm
It may not happen tonight but it’s worth watching the game because we in the World Series. We have to get the follow through back.
I agree JoshinDC about the umpire. I know umpires don’t hit the sac flys but it should be 3-0 and Ryan should be on first with a walk.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:50 pm
Matty – what sort of thing can carry over? what were you commenting on before?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:51 pm
thanks SJ Mike
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Brian, I don’t think it’s a funk, we just can’t bunch our hits together like we did in the previous 2 series.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Anybody want to try giving Jenkins a start and sitting Werth for a game?
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:53 pm
reading all this stuff you guys wrote while I was away is more enjoyabe than this stinking game.
Give up yet, Manny??
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:54 pm
Werth has had one bad game .
He’s back on track Saturday.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:54 pm
The good thing here fellas is we can only lose one game tonight – not four. So, even though our offense has been the shits these last two games, we’ve got time to turn it around.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:55 pm
What was up with that one call where he called the batter out, then told him to take his base? He made the call! That was the ONLY time tonight that Tim McCarver actually said something worth listening to!
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:55 pm
No way, Chuck. Not yet.
I’ve seen plenty of games this year and we are capable to win this. Even if it’s still 4-0 in the ninth.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:56 pm
let’s just hope the crisp northern air wakes thes guys up at the plate
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:56 pm
The fans at CBP have really become a big advantage for the Phils this postseason, so it will help going back to Philly I think all around, whether it is pitching or hitting.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:56 pm
this is a different game Manny,,,,different feel to it
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Double play!
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Nice double play – please get some runs now…
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Man, this turf really gives no resistance or give to ground balls. On any grass field, that is no double play.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Danley’s right arm shot up before — in an odd sequence — he then pointed to first-base umpire Fieldin Culbreth for assistance. Culbreth ruled that Baldelli did not swing, giving the batter a walk.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:59 pm
i guess none of this matters though, the offense hasnt been able to put up A run yet
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:59 pm
speaking of fans, did anybody see the lady in yellow a few innings ago standing up on her feet and politely clapping when something good happened for the Rays?? She looked like she was at the opera or something. These fans have NO HEART at all.!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:00 pm
I agree Chuck, it’s been very frustrating. But we’re certainly capable of hitting this team and score at least 4 runs. I’m not very optimistic but the fact that we’re losing 4-0 (not 6-0, 8-0 or 10-0), and especially knowing this team, you cannot quit just yet.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:00 pm
here comes Price again
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:01 pm
Manny, I’d generally agree with you, but I also agree with Chuck – there is a different feel to this game. However, I don’t give the Rays credit, and while I’ll give the Phils 65% of the blame, I’m also giving 35% to this ABSOLUTE SH*THOLE OF A BALLPARK, TROPICANA FIELD.
WHAT AN ABSOLUTE DUMP – it makes Shea Stadium look like paradise.
Seriously, i cannot wait for the Phils to get out of there, it makes me long for the Vet, that’s how awful it feels for baseball. It feels like they are playing in an underground parking garage.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:04 pm
How about sitting Burrell, shifting Werth to left field and playing Jenkins in right? Burrell hasn’t been productive, and Phils would get another lefty bat against a righty pitcher?
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Wait til the Fox guys call this the turning point and say that the Rays have the momentum
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:05 pm
What the F?? Bruntlett as a PH???
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:05 pm
Bruntlett?
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:05 pm
finally
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:05 pm
ok I take that back
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:05 pm
Uh oh, I just woke up, fell aleep hours ago, apparently I didn’t miss much?
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:05 pm
HOLY SH*T!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:05 pm
Ok, of all people to get a run is Bruntlett? Wow. I’m speechless in a non-sarcastic way.
Doesn’t Garza have a bad ERA on the road?
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:05 pm
at least we weren’t shut out! yay bruntlett! :-/
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:06 pm
Chuck, your late…I think Joe F*ck said the Rays have the momentum 30 minutes before the first pitch tonite.
btw – nice shot by Bruntlett.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:06 pm
Yay! Bruntlett!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:06 pm
Brutlett Hits a HOMERUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:06 pm
I’ve been riding that guy all season too except for the Aug 26th game vs the Mets
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:07 pm
At least we won’t be hearing from Fox all weekend how Price is a baseball messiah
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:07 pm
ok, now that Bruntlett’s hot, let’s start him for Burrell next game (LOL)
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:07 pm
Joe F*ck can lick my a**
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:07 pm
Manny, I don’t think that will stop it. He struck Howard out looking (which isn’t hard to do, of course) with 2 on. So you know that’ll be referenced.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:08 pm
Manny, only 3 to go dude
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:09 pm
So who pitches the 9th? Balfour?
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:09 pm
wow… at least the shutout is gone.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:09 pm
My man, JC!! let’s go!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:09 pm
What do you know-Feliz hits a weak grounder to the left side. That’s never happened before.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Yo Brett Myers, QUALITY start. 7 IP, 3 ER.
Solid.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Dang… if only they could have hit some fly balls earlier… might be 4-2 or 4-3 instead of 4-1.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:10 pm
yeah nate, but RISP is still intact
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:10 pm
So, what’s the blessing in disguise with this game? Maybe the Phils will finally be due to bust out of it on Saturday night? If they can do that early and give Moyer big run support right out the gate, maybe it’s worth the dearth of offense tonite…lord knows that Moyer could use a lead to start off.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Garza’s 11-9 lifetime (160.1 innings) with a 3.93 ERA on the road, 8-13 (157.1 innings) with a 4.12 at home.
So, to answer your question SJ Mike, no.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:10 pm
I just have to vent. How can Rollins be this bad? He has been TERRIBLE in post season and could not be any worse in WS.
Nothing but strike outs and short pop outs from a lead off man deserves a full explanation by himself, milt, and charlie.
The announcers and analysts are not focusing on it, but he is the poster child of the phillies right now.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Myers pitched a good game. The offense didn’t get it done. It isn’t like they didn’t get hits, but they couldn’t drive runs in when they were standing right there in scoring position….multiple times….over and over again…..
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:11 pm
come on Phillies, please
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:11 pm
ah well, back to philly
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Moyer needs a good start. the last two sucked….BUT they were on the road
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:12 pm
who cares about someone who isn’t even on the playoff roster
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:12 pm
Moyer’s start against Milwuakee was also attributed more to the fact that he was squeezed by an awful umpire in the name of Brian Runge.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:13 pm
I know, Fox miking up this Johnny Gomes a**hole, what a waste of time.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:13 pm
LETS GO PHILS!!!!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:13 pm
As Rollins goes, so go the Phillies. He’s been like this most of the year.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:13 pm
SJ, that was a terrible umpiring job.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:13 pm
so Ruiz, Rollins, Werth
Ruiz singles, Rollins gets hit by a pitch, and Werth homers
wishful thinking, yep
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:14 pm
Good inning by Romero. Here we go guys. Let’s break their hearts!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:14 pm
ok…two on…… Werth hits a 3 run homer to tie.
I can dream
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:14 pm
Last chance Phils – please score 4 and send Joe F*ck to the nearest bar so he can get drunk and curse you out…
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:15 pm
keith, we’re in sync, bro. that means something.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Rollins is due to get on for a change
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Chuck, that’s why I only really count the Dodgers start Moyer had as his bad one.
Because even with bad umpiring, he didn’t pitch a bad game against Milwuakee.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:15 pm
How many Cialis commercials did I miss while I was asleep?
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:16 pm
SJ, I think, I hope, I pray, that Moyer is comfortable at home on Sat
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:16 pm
lol yea Chuck
do it Werth, do it!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:16 pm
We can only dream about that happening.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:16 pm
See, there’s a better attitude. Obviously, odds are against us. But being 3 down, it’s still possible until the very last out.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:16 pm
don’t know Georgie Got the radio on in another room
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:17 pm
cmon Ruiz!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Chuck, Moyer has spent 20+ years trying to get the World Series. He’s going to finally get to do it in his hometown for the team he grew up rooting for.
Something tells me he will step it up big time.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:18 pm
AL:RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Good job, Ruiz.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:18 pm
YES!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:19 pm
Ruiz for the Ashburn
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:19 pm
well Ruiz, thank you for actually hitting
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:19 pm
let’s get it going Phils…c’mon JRoll…nows the time
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:19 pm
Who in the hell would have thought that Bruntlett and Ruiz would have been two of our star hitters tonight? Geez.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:19 pm
J Roll????????????????
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:19 pm
rollins u suck!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:19 pm
If we get one more guy on base, it’s panic time.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:20 pm
blah, theres my hit by bitch!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:20 pm
Bullshit! That hit his uniform!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:20 pm
It hit him Danley sucks to hell!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:20 pm
lol oops, pitch*
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:20 pm
Geez these umps suck that hit him.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:20 pm
I can accept being beat by a better team but we beat our self again. If we just hit 50% of the time with people in scoring position we win. Can’t wait to hear the media ordain the Rays as the champions tomorrow…
Someone help Carlos out!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:20 pm
rollins refuse to take 1 for the team
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:20 pm
Kerwin Danley needs to be investigated. Don Denkinger thinks this guy is on the take….
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:20 pm
Keith there was your hit by pitch!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:21 pm
hit the ump with the bat
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:21 pm
Danley makes Runge look like a HOF umpire
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:21 pm
Come on J-Suck just get on base.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:21 pm
seriously… chooch came to play tonight.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:21 pm
Absolutely
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:21 pm
LVP = least valuable player = rollins
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:22 pm
If there is any karmatic justice J-Roll gets walked here….
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:22 pm
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:22 pm
Really, this is not acceptable with this umpire.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:22 pm
and there isn’t any….
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:22 pm
Sh*t!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:23 pm
someone hit the ump with a bat or multiple bats if they want
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:23 pm
like i said, nothing but strike outs and short pop outs from rollins. please take a vacation in FL and dont bother coming back
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:23 pm
Looks like Price will face Werth…Come on Werth show us why you kill leftys.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:23 pm
We need to email MLB about this. Those weren’t questionable calls. Those were too complete total choke jobs.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:23 pm
HERE WE GO GUYS !!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:23 pm
oo, well thats interesting
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:23 pm
NICE!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:23 pm
ok tying run up
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:23 pm
C’mon Utley…bust it out of the yard…
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:24 pm
C’mon Utley…bust it out of the yard…
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:24 pm
well, here’s something.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:24 pm
oh man oh man oh man… there’s still a chance
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:24 pm
I figured Werth would get thrown out leaning off of first….
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Come on. Let’s make this happen!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:24 pm
alright ut and howard… earn your money here!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:24 pm
C’mon Utley…bust it out of the yard!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:25 pm
How in the hell was that a strike?
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:25 pm
if we lose this game, it’s completely and singularly because of J-RO
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:25 pm
I’d give my left nut for a game tying HR right here.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:25 pm
my heart is saying something’s gonna happen, but my head is telling me no
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:25 pm
That sucks
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:25 pm
Howard: this is your time.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:25 pm
Damn.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:26 pm
oh blah
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:26 pm
Clutch Chase, clutch…
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:26 pm
Well it’s up to the big man (yikes).
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:26 pm
Howard, hit a homerun!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:26 pm
OH DAMN IT!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:26 pm
God i hate that shift.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:26 pm
or get out on the first pitch, whatever you want
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Howard shouldn’t have swung on the first pitch. Why not make him work just a little bit more???
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Lucky…we gotta beat these stiffs….
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:27 pm
F !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:27 pm
well we shall just win the 3 games in Philly
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Sh!t game
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:27 pm
well there is 3 hours of my life I don’t get back…
If someone could wake up Jimmy Rollins before Saturday night that would be great…
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:28 pm
Did i mention I think J Ro is the most OVERRATED player on the Phillies team?
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:28 pm
There should not be a single TB fan in CBP on Saturday
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:28 pm
Can we give Danley the Jeltz award? Please?
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:29 pm
Thank God for last night
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:30 pm
J-Rolls struggling because he’s trying to hit home runs too much instead of just getting on base, thats why he’s striking out all the time now like Howard and Burrell.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:30 pm
Relax James. He had a bad game and has had a bad series. He will snap out of it — he’s still an excellent player.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:30 pm
unacceptable…too many RLOB. theyll win games 3 and 4 and 5 though..dont panic..
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:30 pm
Ruiz was our player of the game today, and it’s still good to see Howard getting a couple of hits. But still, no pressure –Rays HAD to win today to keep this series going. No big deal. In Philly, it’ll all be different.
What sucks the most is that we wasted a solid performance by Myers.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:30 pm
I’m not sure what was more frustrating. The bad situational hitting or Danley’s God awful umpiring.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:30 pm
Ok, I’m outta here. I need to try to sleep this off
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:30 pm
J ro suck
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:31 pm
It is only 1-1.
I do believe when we all thought about it the first 2 games, the majority of us were hoping for a split in a realistic viewpoint.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Manny , Myers can come back on short rest if needeed, too
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Just an awful offensive performance – I don’t know what else to say. We’ve out pitched them starting wise and bullpen wise, yet are tied 1-1 because of our offensive ineptitude. 1 for 28 with RISP. Just a brutal effort, Danley or no Danley. He may be better served umping little leaguers, but he didn’t cause the Phils to go 0 for 7 with 5 Ks with one out and a runner on third. It’s just terrible hitting that has and will doom this team. The pitching has been there all year, the hitting hasn’t
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:32 pm
22 LOB in 2 games!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:32 pm
A split is fine. I just hate the way that happened.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:33 pm
If anything, we did get our 2 runs off of the “phenom” in Price.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:34 pm
SJ, I know, but when they get in these hitting funks things can get pretty ugly, inconsistent hitting has been their biggest problem all year.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Price is hittable , yes.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:34 pm
I’m not down on J Roll yet – give him the benefit of the doubt, and let him hear the cheers at CBP. He thrives on positive energy, as do they all…so let’s relax and help the team WIN THE NEXT 3 AT CBP!
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:36 pm
Georgie, each playoff series, our offense had an hair splitting and frustrating lethargic performance. Game 3 of NLDS and Game 3 of NLCS.
So we’ve had a clunker in each of them and game out firing the next game each time.
I’m not panicking yet. I have confidence in Moyer. Take away a small handful of starts, he has been money, especially at home.
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:36 pm
Their pitching really isn’t all that great. Last night Kasmir kooled like a deer lost in the headlights a lot of the time and Shields wasn’t unhittable. We just couldn’t get the BIG hit when it counted. And the bullpen is not ours. So if the bats wake up….we’ll be fine
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:36 pm
Good night, everyone. Phils in phive!

Everybody needs to take a deep breath and just relax. Be happy – we just saw the final Phils loss of the 2008 season. We’re about to go on our third 3 game winning streak in a row, and that’s all that is necessary. With each game, each inning closer to that goal, these Rays will grow tighter and tighter…

I think the RISP will improve at home with the fans’ excitement behind them.

Our guys are going to see the ball a lot better in the Bank…and the Rays are going to have to play in colder, outdoor weather – something they aren’t as accustomed to. (Not to mention real grass).
And while I know they handled the situation at Fenway, Phils fans are louder and better than BoSox fans – and will do what is necessary to get under the Rays skins…
Plus, it will be louder simply b/c they’ll be at least 12,000 more fans in the ballpark.

Thanks guys, I’m usually more positive than this, I just get scared when they can’t hit.

Goosebumps has it right. I just hope somebody in the National Media (not the local Philly papers) has the balls to call Danley out, and MLB umpiring in general. 1 mistake, I understand – everybody is human. But this guy was a walking encyclopedia of poor calls and umpiring mistakes.

analysis of the game:
- Myers, not that bad, really only game up 2 runs.
- Shields, completely hittable. I think the next time, Phils kill him
- Bad umpire calls costing us 1 run, and probably 2 more chances to drive in runs
- The good: the bottom of the line up continue to produce hits better than our big names. Howard tried and improved and getting robbed by the shift
- The bad: mentally soft with the errors and running mistakes. Letting the nerves get to them when RBI opportunities present themselves
- The Ugly: Can’t buy a run with RISP. Let’s shake it up, bunt them in, if u need it.
Best Player: Ruiz
Worst Player: Rollins. If the announcers and everyone in TV land can see why u suck, why can’t u and Milt and Charlie work it work before u bring that stinky poop into WS??? No excuses from a seasoned vet like him.

Your looking good on the bases Ruiz. Myers did a good job tonight. A couple of sac-flys would have meant a lot tonight, and the errors hurt. This was a game the Phillies could have easily won and let slip away. Jimmy please go to Milt tomorrow and get straighten out.
A collection was taken up in the Tampa dugout after the game for the umpire crew and a special collection for the plate umpire. Donations can be sent USucUmp, PO Box 123, GetGlasses, Tampa Fl

If we don’t let those two runs score in the first by playing the infield in, we’re going to extra innings. There was nothing we could’ve done about the umpiring, but we definitely could’ve done something about those two first inning runs.

Watching ESPN, Kruky gave it to the phils. Yeah!
Manuel is partially responsible for this mess. He needed to talk to his players after getting lucky in the first game.
