Matt Garza (11-9, 3.70 ERA) vs. Jamie Moyer (16-7, 3.71 ERA)

News & Notes
Garza was ALCS MVP and carries a 2-1 record with a 3.32 ERA in the postseason. … Moyer has been unequivocally the Phils worst starter in the postseason, going 0-2 with a 13.50 ERA. Before the World Series, he was the only Phillie pitcher to suffer a loss. … Garza has never faced the Phillies before, and only Matt Stairs (1-for-10) has a record against him. … Carlos Pena is hitting 10-for-20 with two home runs against Moyer, while Carl Crawford is hitting 9-for-19 against the veteran left-hander. … Moyer will overtake Roger Clemens to become the second-oldest man to start a World Series game. … For his lifetime, Moyer is 8-4 with a 2.85 ERA in 15 starts against Tampa Bay. … Jayson Werth’s error in game two was his first in right field this season. … The Rays recorded no extra-base hits in game two, while the Phils had four.

Your Gamenight Beer
Tonight our Philly boy hits the hill to mow down the Rays. Jamie Moyer has waited for this moment all his life — no doubt he’s going to throw the game of his life. Open up a Philadelphia Ale from Yards and enjoy. Open up a couple. Celebrate. I’m saying it now — our boy is going to do us proud. Let’s go Jamie, and let’s go Phillies!
Go Phillies!

Hope the rain goes away.
October 25th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
Lets win this one for steve irwin!!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
Utley and Howard back to back, Burell, Werth, Feliz and Ruiz-2 lefties followed by 4 righties, man Joe Maddon is going to have easy bullpen decisions tonight!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 5:18 pm
I heard that joke earlier and almost got into a car crash on 95 at the cottman exit.
October 25th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
Jamie Moyer is exactly 43 days older than me. Old guys around the world, unite behind Old Guy Moyer, this is our time, this is our night, this is our World Series. Go Jamie! Go Phillies!!
October 25th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
Crokies! Let’s stick it to the Rays!
October 25th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
I agree with Griffin.
Manuel has made a big mistake.
October 25th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
I see what you are saying Griffin – the Rays will have an easy night in the bullpen as far as matching up lefties and righties. I agree with what you are saying on one hand, but on the other hand, this lineup has helped us all the way to the series, and for the most part has been organized this way. I can’t see Werth in the 2 hole again tonight, he has some awful at bats(as do most of the other phillies) and gives the defense no threat of dropping down a bunt or hitting the basepaths with blazing speed like Victorino does. I think Victorino HAS to bat 2 in the order, thus pushing back Werth to the 6 hole. I think it is the only way to go. The only time Werth is worthy of batting in the 2 hole is when facing garbage lefties.
October 25th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
Maddon can bring in a lefty to face Rollins, Vic (2 switch hitters who are better against righties), Utley and Howard and then bring in a righty to face the 4 righty Phillie hitters. Chollie has just made it too easy for Maddon tonight.
October 25th, 2008 at 5:43 pm
Is it 8:30 yet?
October 25th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
I hear ya with Werth against righties, but then why not switch Howard and Burrell or put Victorino in the 3 hole behind Utley.
Right now the lineup is:
Switch (better against RHP)
Switch
Lefty
Lefty
Righty
Righty
Righty
Righty
The Rays only have to take out their relievers once they finish off facing the same-handed batters. Also, by not putting a lefty in the 5 throught 8 positions, Maddon can bring in a lefty to face Dobbs or Stairs when they pinch hit and then keep them in to face the two switch hitters and the two lefties.
After the 5th inning tonight, Howard will NOT face a right handed pitcher.
October 25th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
Manuel doesn’t have the personnel to switch the lineup up. Let’s face it, Victorino is a better fit in the 2 hole then Werth, and I can’t see them putting Werth in the 4 hole to break up the lefties. Another option would be to play Dobbs instead of Feliz, but when doing that we give up one of our best defensive players that would help us if this game is another close one. And they could also play Jenkins or Stairs instead of Werth, but they would also be giving up something defensively.
I know that during the season Werth batted in the 3 hole for a little while, but Utley has to be in that position where he can drive in runs.
In the offseason we will have to adress the fact that we have all those righties at the bottom of the order (Juan Pierre in LF batting 7, haha), but for tonight, and the rest of the series we will have to settle for this lineup. We have abused their pitching thus far, just haven’t been able to knock in the runs. We all know they are 1/28 with RISP, but we have to get over that and start a new series tonight.
The way I look at it, this is a 5 game series now, and with the next 3 here, we have home field advantage . . . GO PHILS!
October 25th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Is it still raining?
October 25th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
I agree that Feliz MUST start tonight with Moyer pitching, I just wish our lineup wasn’t so slanted. Let’s be honest, if Jenkins hit at all this year, he’d be in the lineup tonight instead of Werth and that would help balance out the bottom of the lineup.
October 25th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
I agree Griffin, Jenkins has been an absolute disappointment. I think Werth should be a 4th outfielder, but we have noone better so he is starting by default. I know we are heavy with lefties, but i think we need to add a lefty/switch-hitting outfielder that can hit at the back of the lineup in the offseason – someone with speed who doesn’t strike out much. The bugaboo of this team all year has been the bottom of the lineup, so we must address that.
For now, let’s just stick it out. I still think we have enough pop in this lineup to get the job done tonight, and the rest of the series.
GO PHILS!
October 25th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
What’s the weather like there?
October 25th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
still raining, but it doesn’t seem terrible
October 25th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
Weather.com has it raining until midnight.
October 25th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
I found a different listed line-up, which may change the LH/RH debate a tad.
1. Jimmy Rollins SS
2. Jayson Werth RF
3. Chase Utley 2B
4. Ryan Howard 1B
5. Pat Burrell LF
6. Shane Victorino CF
7. Pedro Feliz 3B
8. Carlos Ruiz C
9. Jamie Moyer LHP
Who knows if it’s right, though.
October 25th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
switching Werth for Vic. It solves the righty/lefty thing somewhat, by assuring that if Maddon brings in a lefty to face our lefty pinch hitters, then he’ll have to face a lety killer in Werth before he gets to our lefty bats.
Man, this game can’t come soon enough!
October 25th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
The actually don’t announce the lineup until after 7 on MLB.com
October 25th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
Yes, KM, we have more than enough pop. If Rollins, Howard, and Burrell did half of what they normally did, we would be up 2-0, no question. Those guys really need to rise to the occasion tonight, because Garza is looking like the new Josh Beckett. We need Moyer to come through, and it makes me uneasy that Moyer’s success tonight depends partially on how willing the homeplate ump is to call low strikes. But this umpiring crew owes us one right now.
Ultimately, I think it’s all about the table-setters tonight. J-Roll has struck out more in the last six games (11) than he did the entire month of September (9). In some ways, Jimmy became a bonafide leadoff hitter this year, by walking more often than he struck out (58 BBs, 55 Ks), but in the postseason, he has 3 BBs and 13 Ks. More than anyone else, Jimmy’s discomfort at the plate has been the most damaging. I look for him to relax back at home and get things going.
October 25th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
It looks like the heaviest rain will probably approach Philly right around 7:30-7:45, but it looks like it will only last 15-20 minutes then taper off to lighter rain. Hopefully the field will be okay and they can just start a little late. I’d say the rain delay will be at least 45 minutes to an hour, though.
October 25th, 2008 at 6:22 pm
Philly Fan, you can usually find line-ups posted in a myriad of other places before MLB though. They seem to be asleep at the wheel on the internet site sometimes.
October 25th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
That is true, but they sometimes are wrong.
An example would be game 1 of the WS, when Tim got the lineup from ESPN and posted it. It was wrong.
October 25th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
Flyers W, maybe good karma will spread across the street
October 25th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
I hope that this rest has given Jamie what he needs to pitch well tonight.
All along I had thought that J.A. Happ was the secret weapon (ala Bob Walk and Marty Bystrom in the ‘80 series, when I was 14), the unknown or near unknown who would come in and hold his own for a WS game.
As bad as Jamie was the last two starts, I thought this might come to fruition.
October 25th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
Just read on phillies.com, phils lineup still same. werth in 2nd spot and vic in 6th spot. Interesting here for rays lineup, left handed hitter gabe gross starting in right and he’s batting like .181 against Moyer. Two best records against moyer from rays are pena 10for20 2hrs and carl crawford 9for19. Only phils player with record in garza is matt stairs 1for10. Game likely to be delayed, but played. Maddon was saying he likes the cbp facility because it’s bigger than bostons. Also for flyers fans, jeff carter scores in ot as flyers beat devils 3-2 in ot. Philly is busy this weekend. Today was flyers game, phillies game and a concert. Then tomorrow is eagles game, phillies game and another contest. Their might be a sixers preseason game, but im not sure. Anyways, Moyer will pitch great. Nervous about O. LETS GO PHILLIES ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
You forgot we are penn state
October 25th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
I feel real good about Moyer tonight. I think he comes through in the clutch and keeps these young hitters off balance with his wizardry. Pat needs to get something going, and Werth needs to pick things up in the 2 hole and drive J-Roll in. J-Roll will be better tonight, I’d be willing to bet.
October 25th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Changed the lineup. We got a tailgate going on, but I’m not there. Will be there tomorrow, so say yo. Go Phils!
October 25th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Tim, are you tailgating at your house then? Got a tarp up to stay out of the rain?
October 25th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
looking at the radar and the heaviest of the rain has past, the system is moving through pretty quick. We should see some intermittent showers with increasing winds out of the south as the game progresses. There is a big area of high pressure behind the storm, so the winds will really kick up as it moves in. The field has drained out pretty well all year, so we might only have a little delay
October 25th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
Watching with the family tonight. The whole crew is at my brother’s. Hey, postgame party at the original Pattywhacks.
Also, check up top: Talk is game will start at 9:30.
October 25th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
All that south philly rain just made it to the northeast
October 25th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Looks like the rain at the park right now will be the heaviest it’s going to get tonight. Another 10 minutes or so and hopefully that will pass, and then it looks like lighter rain after that (according to the radar). Anyone close to the park to shed some light on this (no pun intended)?
October 25th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
Sorry…should have refreshed before posting my question.
October 25th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
On another note, I like Game 1’s aggressiveness on the basepaths. We need J-Roll, Werth, Utley, and Vic to get on and keep the pitcher concerned with them. If we have any luck, this will lead to bad pitches and nice production.
October 25th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
Ugh the same lineup we’ll prolly see the same result,Victorino needs to be up in the #2 spot and Werth 6th and as much as i like Feliz glove, his bat kill us Dobbs should be getting the start there tonight.
October 25th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
I agree that Victorino should be in 2hole. I’m ok with Feliz tonight with Moyer pitching there’s a ton of ground balls and I like his glove a lot better than Dobbs
October 25th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
I just got home from Philly, and 76 eastbound is a JAM! I know there will be ALOT of pissed off “phans” if we get a washout. Specifically the ones sitting in traffic, and tailgating in the rain, and then are forced to go back home and have to wait a whole 24 hrs. more! Let’s hope for ALL of us, that we only will have to wait for just ONE extra hour, instead of ONE whole day!!!
Oh, and yes, I agree…let’s win this for Steve Irwin!
October 25th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
Sorry didn’t finish my thought Dobbs did not look good at the plate the other night either which makes me more ok with the move for tonight
October 25th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
I hope the game doesn’t get delayed to long! I want to watch some of it before I leave tonight…. Its now 1am in Ireland and Im leaving my house at 4am for a 2 hour drive to the Airport. I arrive Newark tomorrow morning 11am local time. Got 2 tickets to the game.GO PHILLIES!!! Hopefully get to meet some of you tomorrow for a Pint. Any updates on start times! Im listening to KYW on the net at the moment and they are saying 9pm.Is this accurate?
October 25th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
That’s what was just claimed on television.
October 25th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
come on already! the beer’s cold, the roast beef’s hot, ready to go… but instead i’m watching Carrie on PBS. Rain Rain, Go Away!
October 25th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Any news? Doesn’t look like tonights happening…
October 25th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
I’m here at CBP. Rain is not going away and its getting really windy. Let’s hope this mf rain goes away soon and we can start at 930.
October 25th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
So it’s 9:30 start?
October 25th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
doesn’t look like it
October 25th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
rain will be gone soon according to meteorologists…game start set at 9:30, but may be 9:45
October 25th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
Rain rain go away,
Come again another day.
Our Phillies want to play;
Rain, rain, go to Spain,
Never show your face again!
October 25th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
they ARE going to get tonight’s game in. that has already been established. they said they are waiting for this final band of rain to pass before starting so they don’t have to stop in the 2nd or 3rd and screw pitching up.
October 25th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
We’re in the car in the M lot. Our grill blew away. The rain and wind will not stop up.
October 25th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
Oh my……
October 25th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
I wouldn’t mind a 9:45 or 10 o’clock start. Less overlap with the Penn State game.
October 25th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
I found something worse than Joe Buck.
Its this ghawdawful sitcom.
October 25th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
So, my friends in the magic thinking box (Pierre Roberre)
Do I start the coffee now and hope for a game?
October 25th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
John Bolaris says to sit tight the rain is moving OUT!
GO PHILLIES!!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
Why not shane in the 2 hole and split up utley and howard with burell? That seems to make a lot more sense, to me at least.
October 25th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Joe Buck is an A$$..he makes it so bleak…..I hope they accidentally squeegie him down the drainage system…
October 25th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Werth’s in the 2 hole because he’ll take pitches and Vic isn’t being put back in the two hole becuase he isn’t disciplined enough at the plate and with Jimmy free swinging thats a potential killer.
October 25th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
sean, I would imagine he doesn’t want to switch hitters, then two lefties, followed by a ton of righties. If they have a RHP in the game (which Garza is), you have four lefties followed by four righties. Werth and Vic break that up a bit. Then, in later innings, Maddon could replace Garza with a LHP to face the lefties all in a row, and then a RHP to face all the righties. Just a guess…
October 25th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
Oh, and Burrell isn’t exactly tearing the cover off the ball, and Howard needs his protection to at least have a chance to see something to hit.
October 25th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Fox is still saying that there’s a rain delay (this sitcom is painful) and the radar looks like 30-45 minutes before its all gone…
October 25th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
Looks like there will be a game!!
October 25th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Tarp is on its way off, fellas!
October 25th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Oh shit its raining again!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
WoooHooooo…PREGAME!!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
They are putting the tarp away!!!!!!!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Never have i been so happy to see FOX’s pregame c***s….
October 25th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Fox is saying a 10 PM start time.
Someone go send Fat Joe to beddybye in an hour or two.
October 25th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
countdown to the Met’s fan showing up and saying something very profound…
October 25th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Man, that radar shows that the rain is SO FREAKIN CLOSE to stopping! Let’s get ready to play ball!
October 25th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
go Phillies!
October 25th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
GO PHILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
It stopped raining! I’m at CBP so I’m 99 percent sure there will be a game! Go philliesssssssss!!
October 25th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
The Intros!!!!!!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
what the hell is that background children’s music being played during the intros? Fishes in the ocean…different shapes and sizes…..?????
October 25th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
That’s what the national anthem should sound like
October 25th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
NOW, LET’S PLAY BALL!!!!!!!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
Fans still look great even after the delay.
October 25th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
This is going to be a great game.
October 25th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
I thought that Rays intro music was brilliant. I’m a Red Sox fan who HATES the offseason, and has some hate for the super-spitting, puffin-faced Garza festering. Go Phils. I would sure not like to have the Red Sox face the World Champions 18 times next season, either.
October 25th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Taylor Swift was ten times better than those uber-queers the Rays had sing down in Florida. Who do we have on tap for the other two? I forget.
October 25th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
this is just amazing…let’s do it
October 25th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Moyer is getting that corner.
October 25th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
If he’s getting the corners we are in good shape
October 25th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Hey, can someone tell me when or has Tim McGraw came out yet to hand the ball out because of his dad Tug McGraw to honor him but has he came out?
October 25th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Moyer is looking so good.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Patrick if he did fox didn’t show it
October 25th, 2008 at 10:01 pm
Yeah, Moyer’s getting his corners, and that’s definitely a good thing for us.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
That really sucks, Tim McGraw is the greatest, I have been waiting to see him and Taylor on tonight and that really sucks that they didnt show it.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
Gotta hold on to that carlos
October 25th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
What a great start, lets go.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Time to Pound some Hits and get the lead for good.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Well thanks to the rain delay I didn’t miss anything in here. Moyer looks sharp so far, much better than the other 2 starts in the playoffs. Now we get to see Garza shake his f*cking glove every time he winds up. I hate him so much…
October 25th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
TIm McGraw announcing the lineup for fox!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
Does Rollins start off with his homerun derby swing?
October 25th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
J-Roll gets a HIt!!!!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
Garza really grooves some fastballs.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
THERE WE GO JIMMY! It’s on now boys!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
If I’m Werth here I’m taking 2 strikes.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
Garza looks spooked
October 25th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
Here we go. Now let’s go Chutley!!!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
Garza is the Spanish Derek Lowe, get into his head early and it’s all over. If they screw this up they won’t touch him.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Garza looks rattled already. We HAVE to pounce on him early to get him out of whack. If he gets out of this, he’ll regain his composure!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
This just turned into a MUST score at least 2 runs situation. Gotta jump on this guy, he looks really shaky.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Biggest moment of the Series right here….
October 25th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Now all you need is for Rollins to dance around a bit at third and that’ll be enough to get Garza unglued.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
That was a great pitch to drive, but we’ll take a run any way we can get it.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
i’ll take that. any way we can dammit!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
Put the ball in the air ryan
October 25th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
I would like to welcome Matt Garza into the “Don’t Show Close-Ups of My Face in HD”Club. He joins Hideki Matsui and Julian Tavarez. Congrats Garza!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Matty, Jorge Cantu isn’t on that list?
October 25th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Matty, you gotta count Jorge Cantu in that club
October 25th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
I like Burrell to do something tonight. I just feel it.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Good thing I don’t have HD. Tavarez is definitely not a looker in standard definition, let alone HD.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Not good enough. Just plain not good enough.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
er…maybe that was just gas.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Howard swings at a curveball he had to have known was coming, and Pat swings at the first pitch. Did Milt work with these guys at all?
October 25th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
die RISP die, but yay that we’re winning at least
October 25th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Howards becoming a joke, he’s suppose to be an elite player yet every single pitcher this series has had the advantage.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Sorry, I always forget about Cantu, mainly to stop the nightmares…
October 25th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
The inning was good, I thought. Nice pitching by Moyer, Jimmy laced a nice hit, Werth was patient, Chase got a run in. We scored, which is better than nothing. We got a lot of good looks at Garza and got to him a bit mentally I think. Plus, he threw 18 pitches, so if we can keep it up, he’ll be gone after 5 or so unless we start scoring more on him.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
0 for 3 RISP. this has the look of an easy win that will again be way to close to call
October 25th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Please don’t do this to us anymore, Phils hitters
October 25th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
so close Burrell
October 25th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
if burrell is an easy out, why have his slow ass out there any ways? That slow mo shows that he was afraid to catch that ball. Pathetic!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
If that throw is down he’s out
October 25th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
and they get a man in from 3rd with 1 out, how unPhillieslike
October 25th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
Yeah I didn’t think that was legal keith
October 25th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Maybe now that we’ve seen it we can do it too
October 25th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
james, please STFU and relax for a few innings. One inning will not dictate the game. I’d rather have Burrell out there than Bruntlett, and he tried as hard as he could to get to that ball.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
We are not doing badly.
Game 2’s definition is “Badly”
October 25th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
So far, Howard and Burrell are tied for tonight’s Jeltz award. I hope the bottom of our line up can keep up their efforts.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Is Garza related to Jesse Orosco? Strong resemblance
October 25th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
It’s good to see our guys hitting the ball well, though. I have faith that sooner or later, they’ll find holes and we’ll be in good shape.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
CHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCHHHH!!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
RUIZ, my man!!! yes!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
RUIZ
our best hitter
October 25th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
I heart Chooch!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Chooch!!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Ruiz for President! I’m changing my vote!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
What a GAMER!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Chooch baby.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Brian, Garza also resembles Vanilla Ice…
October 25th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
CHOOCH!!! DUDE IS ON FIRE!!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Ruiz is our man!!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
That is a hell of a way to turn the lineup over
October 25th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Haha, wow that Moyer swing was ugly.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
Wow, someone doesn’t want to be a back-up catcher.
Go Ruiz!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
I loved how Moyer looked like he was going for a home run. I’d love to see Moyer run into one tonight.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
I’m up in CT and it is windy as hell and the light are flickering. If I lose power and miss the end of the PSU game and part/all of this game I don’t know what I’ll do with myself.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
Matty, i was gonna say the same thing.
Gotta give Moyer more runs. He deserves a win.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
Garza looks like a guy who should be headed to federal prison for selling meth and/or a busload of cheap schwag weed. Maybe the kind of guy that would “kiester” some if need be. Just a guess…
October 25th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
First Bruntlett, now Chooch! Who’s next, Taguchi?
October 25th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
he’s no Myers lol
October 25th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
No, I got it. Garza is that dude from the Big Lebowski. You know, Jesus, the guy from the bowling alley that always dresses in those faggy purple suits.
“DONT’ FU*K WITH THE JESUS!”
October 25th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Jamie, regarding Burrell:
Brunlett was 1 for 1 with HR, while Burell, well, we know what he’s done, and he’s supposed to be the 5 spot offensive guy?
Rewind the tivo and check out that Burrell effort on that pop fly. He is slower than others, and at the end, while most players dive to catch balls, he closed his eyes, and pulled his head back, probably causing him to bounce the ball off his glove.
If this was the 1st game of WS, i’d chill, but i’ve seen way too much of this from him. If he cant hit, we certainly dont need him for defense either.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Jamie, you nailed that one.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
No Myers indeed. His 9-pitch walk to turn the lineup over and help set up Victorino’s grand slam against Milwaukee is still one of my favorite moments in the whole postseason. The cheers when he took a ball and fouled off pitch after pitch. That was awesome. Rollins walks and Victorino brings ‘em all home.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
God I love watching Moyer when he’s on his game.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
1-2-3
Go Jamie go!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
I just knew Moyer was going to have a big game tonight. None of the non-Phillies fans I know believed me.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
the ump is really giving Moyer a break on the strike zone tonight
October 25th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
moyer looks real sharp.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
If I lose my satellite I have to go to my HD Cable back-up. If I lose that I go to the internet. If I lose that the radio will be on. If I lose that then I freaking quit.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
CT hopefully some of that is residual karma from the mess that was Kerwin Danley the other night…
October 25th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
@CT I was thinking during Garza’s last inning that he’s not getting calls that Moyer is. Flip that around and I’m pissed. As it is now, I’m thrilled. Keep tossing that junk, Jamie.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Matty and Jeffrey, i feel you guys there.
and YES ROLLINS IS BACK!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Jimmy!!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
has anyone won the Jeltz award in one game and then won the Ashburn in the next one?
October 25th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
So Puljoz was in town to watch this years MVP strike out in the first?
October 25th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
rollins is rattlin’ garza…
October 25th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
james, I just don’t know where to start…
Bruntlett is a weak hitting sissy. He’s a good defensive player, has a little speed, and is good for a lot of things, but a starting left fielder to replace Pat Burrell is not one of them. Not in a million years. You are basing this on one at-bat for Bruntlett which as an act of God, turned out to be a HR. Burrell had a very good post season until Game 1 and 2 of the WS, where he has been struggling.
The difference is Pat Burrell can change the game with one swing, and affords protection to Howard. He can drive the ball. He is patient and gets on base via the walk with the best of them if he doesn’t see something to swing at. Bruntlett will never be an everyday player, and he affords no protection to anyone when he’s in the line-up.
Burrell is slow, no doubt. He doesn’t have the range that Bruntlett does, no doubt. Diving head first is stupid, because if the ball gets down, it gets past you and you give up AT LEAST one more base. In Pat’s case, going in the way he did was smart, because his body knocked it down to keep Crawford from getting to third.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Hats off to Rollins. We need him as our spark plug to winning the seriers.
Let’s hope he can keep it up with RISP
October 25th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
Werth should have smoked that ball.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
ahhh poor Jimmy
October 25th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
ugh
October 25th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
Damn. I like the call on the steal attempt, though.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
nice Werth
October 25th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
so yeah, nice call sending Rollins there…
October 25th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
I will take Pat’s 1 home run for every 9 K’s he seems to get.
Pats not the best defensivly but i want his bat in the lineup. Even if its not working this week.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Damn weather is taking their running game away.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
I like Jimmy’s aggressiveness, but Werth could have driven that pitch. And to think we’d have runners on the corners here…oh well…you have to be aggressive to try some things, and things don’t always go your way.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
sorry monday morning qb syndrome. …
October 25th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Dave, I agree 100%. Most do, I think. Obviously the person who matters the most does (Charlie).
October 25th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
a bunt to third would’ve been a nice double
October 25th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
ball was smoked nice catch
October 25th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
Aw man, he SMOKED that pitch. Drag.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
Did Garza take the cotton out of his ears, I don’t see it anymore.?
October 25th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
“Upton just glides”… I like to think of him as the Robinson Cano of Tampa, in center field.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
Realize one thing everyone…OUR BOYS ARE HITTING THE BALL HARD OFF OF GARZA.
Things will end up well for us this evening, I have a feeling!
October 25th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
Garza didnt have the cotton to start the second.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
dammit
October 25th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
For Chriiiiiiiiists sake Howard, can you at least Fly out!?!?
October 25th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
Is Howard aware that it’s ok to hit to left field? Can someone tell him?
October 25th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
PENN STATE wins. 1 game down, 1 more to go tonight.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
Hey, he made contact this time…that’s encouraging.
Where is everyone else? Seems like a lot of the other regulars are gone. The lucky bastards are probably at the game.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
I live in Georgia and if i could have gotten a ticket, I’d have went.
Of course we had someone quit and we’re all stuck on 6 day weeks so getting to go to the WS is damm near impossible. 15 days of the CWS had to do I suppose.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Matty, I want to draw him a map with a color-coded section showing how much of the left side is open. Is it just me, or did he have a lot more hits to opposite field a couple of years ago? Seems like he’s become a strictly pull hitter, other than his occasional oppo field HR’s.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
I am sick of watching Ryan Howard. When the other guys make outs there’s disappointment but Howards just aweful and most of his hits still look pretty bad. I know it’s a sore subject but I’m starting to get happy thoughts about the possiblity of what a trade for him could net.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
How could you not be enticed to slap one into left field? The only way to get them to quit the shift is to make it no-longer worth their while. It bugged the crap out of me when David Ortiz didn’t go the other way. Once every 1000 at-bats he’ll drop down a bunt, but that’s not going to get it done. That shift isn’t going anywhere if you don’t negate it.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Eva! lol
October 25th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Yeah, just inside out your swing a tad, wait that extra split second before you swing, and he could easily poke a few into left field for singles. Hell, maybe a gapper now and again.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
McCarver and buck used the same hole during the nlcs didn’t they
October 25th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
This is just like watching Moyer pitch against the Marlins. These guys are getting themselves out.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
After 11 games broadcast by Chip Caray and Buck Martinez, amazingly enough, I’m not as angered by Joe Buck and Tim McCarver as I used to be.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Moyer’s got such good tempo tonight. Crawford swings at a possible ball 4 and gets himself out.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Lets go get some!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Man, Moyer is looking sharp tonight. We could use seven out of him, but six would do.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Come on Jamie, get us to bed before 2 am!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
The old guy can pitch.
Now, Let’s Hit. We need a couple of runs.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
Please, could we just score a few runs here, PLEASE???
October 25th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
Moyer is using up 15 pitches/inning. What’s his maximum effective range?
October 25th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
This game is moving along at a pretty good clip, no?
Anyone know a lot about Sonnanstine? His faults or what-not?
October 25th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
Sorry Georgie wouldn’t have been so crude had I known a lady was present
October 25th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
I figure Moyer is good for 6. Split Romero & Durbin in the 7th. Madson 8th and Lidge in the 9th.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
I wonder if Fox knows there is a baseball game on.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Nice at bat here by burrell
October 25th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Jamie,
You can defend Burrell all you want, but he is not some one that this phillies team should have in the long run assume no other personnel changes. We need a steady hitting out fielder which is not hard to find in the league and not a lifetime .250 power hitter.
While i also agree that Bruntlett probably not going to get the everyday job over Pat, Burrell’s not carrying his weight at all.
Let’s hope i am wrong for the rest of the series regarding him.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
I take that back damn it Pat
October 25th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Swinging at ball 4….. F!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Brian, hahaha, haven’t been called that in a while. Seriously, as I’ve said on here before, I enjoy the colorful comments.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
How does he go down swinging on that crap?
October 25th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
Sonnanstine is a soft-tossing guy himself. Sinker, slider… Deceptive… In his windup he tends to throw hitters’ timing off with a bit of a slow-down when he brings his leg up. He’s one of those guys who makes you wonder how he’s not getting hit.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
Moyer could go 100 pitches or so, so I don’t think we have to be worried at this point. He’ll be good for 6 IP, which is good enough considering we can use Durbin/Romero/Eyre for the 7th, and Madson for the 8th if we still have the lead.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
Sonnanstine is a feel pitcher, and I will be interested to see how he pitches on extra rest…
October 25th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Cant swing at ball 4, cant look at strike 3. Bad inning sofar.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
The longer we let them hang out behind only one run, the more dangerous this gets. I’m nervous now for the first time since the top of the second.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
But he is hittable. He certainly didn’t look that way against Boston. Pitched twice against them late in the season, gave up 1 earned run in each start. Managed to give up 3 earned in 7.1 against Boston in ALCS 4… He hasn’t pitched since then. That was October 14th.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
The crowd seems subdued, they need to get into Garza’s head.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
Wow. Struck out the side. Guess we’re out of his head.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
james, I’m not going to argue with you anymore about Burrell. He’s better than anything else we have for options, and I’d take him over any of the other free agent-to-be outfielders except Manny.
You are just pissed because he isn’t getting hits every time up. Just like Howard. He will come around. Where the hell were you for the NLDS or NLCS when he was carrying us?
October 25th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Moyer has given up 1 hit. Cant ask for much more.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Ruiz’s home run looks much larger now. Garza’s among the best when he’s comfortable.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
After 4 innings:
Moyer has 58 pitches.
Garza has 64 pitches.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
Yeah, after looking at Sonnanstine’s stats, he’s definitely hittable. His ERA is average at best over his career, and he gives up a little more than a hit per inning. Not a big strikeout guy with overpowering stuff. Relies on deception like Moyer. The hitters are going to have to be patient, but I have faith in Blanton to keep the Rays at bay.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
Looks like we are content with 2
October 25th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
lol, that last pitch of Jamie’s looked like it barely made it to the plate.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
E-6.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
i couldn’t take buck and mc carver one morr night on tv so i turned the sound off and am really enjoying LA and the other guy for a lousy 3 innings isn’t there some way to shut wheels up go phils
October 25th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
Nope, a hit. Sets up the dp.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
This is an interesting dude here. Gabe Gross. He’s on Tampa’s roster even though he’s hitting .063 in the postseason… He’s terrible at the plate and he’s terrible in the field. Eric Hinske, who hit 20 home runs this year, was left off the WS roster.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
The wife went to bed – thinks I’m crazy staying up as late as it’ll be – you guys will have to be my company for the rest of the game.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
If the delay wasn’t so terrible I’d turn on the radio. I can get WPHT here in southern Maine at night. But they’re about a pitch behind the action. Hard to handle.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Crowd is really quiet tonight
October 25th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Is it my imagination or is that Fox Track thing more accurate tonight than it’s been all postseason?
October 25th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
This isn’t late. Flyers-Penguins in 2000 was late…. and that started on time.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
I’m just happy to have a real center field camera and not that off center crap fom tampa
October 25th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
ann, if you are listening to Anderson, he has Scott Franske with him.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
Yeah, the crowd has surprised me, too. Not at all what I expected.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
Interesting that the 0-7 pitcher could put the ball in play earlier but Howard can’t…..
October 25th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
That was a great game, over at like 3am, wasn’t it? And my main man Keith Primeau scored the winning goal, I’ll never forget that one!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
Sometimes I feel like the more tickets cost to a game, the worse the crowd is.
Of course, it could just be that I’m jealous of rich people and jealous of everyone who has tickets to these World Series games.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
We just need one more solid inning from Moyer. Then the boys in the pen can take the ball. We sure could use Ruiz getting on here, Moyer to bunt him over, and turn the line-up over to the top. I’d like to see Ruiz in scoring position for J-Roll.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
Hopefully the crowd wakes up soon. In the ALCS at Fenway the crowd didn’t wake up until the 7th inning of Game 5. Garza pitched Game 3 there and he was comfortable all night.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
Georgie, i came home after working a basketball game to catch the 3rd period and then it went on, and on, and on, and on and then ended up as one of the greatest games ive ever seen….
October 25th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
Jeffrey, I think there’s something to that. At practically any sporting event, it seems like the people in the best seats are doing anything but watching the game, always pisses me off.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Garza starts spotting that fastball…
October 25th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Ruiz
October 25th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Chooch gets on.
Again.
Who knew?
October 25th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
This crowd needs to get LLLLOOOOUUUUDDDD!!!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Ruiz walks again, yea Ruiz
October 25th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Dave, I even stayed up for the postgame show on csn, was up until 4am or so, FANTASTIC!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Shi…………..t!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
More people want to be seen at the game rather than go to see the game.
Meh, bad bunt.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
JImmy could split the gap and the crowd might wake up a bit
October 25th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Georgie, Its because of 2004 Flyers/Tampa why i truely despise the entire city of Tampa. I miss Preems. Hope his head somehow gets better someday.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
McCarver thinks its that they’re tired. Sheesh!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
Remember when Werth hit 3 home runs against the Blue Jays? I would like to see him do a third of that here…
October 25th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
I hear ya, Dave.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
These Rays have made so really clutch defensive plays in this series. Just more evidence they didn’t get here on luck. We need more runs.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
Matty he didn’t miss by much
October 25th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
WTF? Garza’s a strange dude.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
Am I the only one that has a really choppy Fox signal?
October 25th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
Ugh….. Couldnt move the runner…..
October 25th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
Luck had nothing to do with these Rays, that’s for sure. They are relentless, and they are not as affected by momentum as others were. Hard to call winning 97 games a fluke.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
Yeah, he’s like a fidgety guy with Tourette’s. And all this spitting he’s doing? Seriously, how can one person produce so much sputum so quickly? He’s an abnormal individual.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
I dont want to ever see that Hoaward/Subway commercial again unless he hits a HR in his next AB.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
Speaking of Tourette’s, where’s Jim Eisenreich when you need him?
October 25th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
Jamie, he probably stores it all in that huge nose of his.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
Baseball players spit, and we’re all used to it. But Garza’s spitting is exceptional. Like to see him knocked out of this one next inning.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
Moyer is pitching the game of his life and the offense hasn’t done squat.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
I think I’ve heard that song before, Dave.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
I do not like Upton at all. I love that he can’t pick up Moyer’s move.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
Moyer looks like he doesn’t care that Upton’s at first. Keeping him at first while keeping his attention on Pena.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
Moyer is the man tonight! This is the story line nobody in the national media thought was possible!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
Upton doesn’t know which way is up right now. Hilarious.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
Uh, I just ate those words.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
WOW, I thought that was way outta there.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
You know, for all the bitching about the Phillies middle of the order, the Rays middle of the order has been almost as bad.
Oh and phhhhheeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
October 25th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
Bandbox? BANDBOX! *whew*
October 25th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
oh my, I thought that was a homerun
October 25th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
Woah! That was not fun!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
love the wind
October 25th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
Ok, time to talk Moyer out, good job Jamie, hope the Phils win this one for you!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
good thing we are not in a dome
October 25th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Just got back from a wedding. I had my portable TV there and everyone was watching the game at my table. Great game so far!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Lets get some runs!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
Wedding? I’d skip my own wedding to watch this!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
I cannot believe that ball stayed in the park. My only hope was that it’d bend foul. Next thing I know, it’s in Burrell’s glove. Wild!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
SJ, I can’t believe you took your tv to a wedding, priceless!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
I’m tired of all the “Bandbox” comments. They are made by idiots who know nothing about the game. CBP is #11 in Home Runs based on park factor, behind Camden Yards, US Cellular Field, Coors Field, Great American, Rangers Ballpark, Comerica, Wrigley, Minute Maid, Shea, and Chase. And they were #7 overall in HR’s allowed this season, #3 in the NL. And these idiot critics make it sound like it’s softball field dimensions.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
BrewTown, I said on my radio show (I am not even remotely national media though) last week that Moyer was going to give the Rays issues. If any of these national guys had looked at the Rays lineup against lefties they would have seen it, too, but they think junkballer + bandbox = advantage Tampa. I am sure the wind and the rain delay have helped, but still, nice job by him so far.
Maybe Charlie’s mom helped with that one…
October 25th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
That’s quite a tongue Moyer’s got, eh?
October 25th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
JUST 334 down the line, Joe? Didn’t you notice the 315 sign in left in Tampa? Tired of hearing about this “bandbox” when the Trop is just about the same dimensions.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
That’s quite a tongue old man Moyer has!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
UTLEY!!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
YEEESSSS. THERE WE GO
October 25th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
Seeeeeeeeeeeeee Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
… uh… I just woke up my fiancee with that cheer!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
Dong!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
Wake up people! There! An Utley dong’ll do that. I love that swing.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
Ladies and gentlemen: Chase Utley!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
Too much to hope for back-to-back?
October 25th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
Georgie, I had the TV in my car from some gigs I did this week. I use it as a portable monitor.
Everyone knew I had it and they all told me. The bride’s father told me to bring it in.
I’ve known the bride and half the people there since I was in middle school, so we all enjoyed it!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
I thought Eva’s ball was an upper deck shot, but we lucked out. Utley’s was a no-doubter, though…especially with that wind going from left to right.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
we can stop talking about Moyer’s tongue at 3……2…….1……..now. LOL
October 25th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
haha SJ, thats awesome.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
WOW YESSSS
October 25th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
HOWARD HIT ONE, HOWARD HIT ONE, HOWARD HIT ONE
October 25th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
Sha-Bang!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
Back-to-back! Ask and you shall receive! Seriously! Howard hit one!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
Nice call, Dave!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
And I come home to see 2 bombs by Utley and Howard! Rock on!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
He’s been hacking at curves all night so Garza figures he’ll throw another. And hangs it.
BE AFRAID, RAYS. BE VERY AFRAID.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
Ooooh, a Garza temper tantrum. Love it.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
Matty,
One of the things that’s annoying about the national sports media – which out here is all I ever hear – is that one guy says something and everybody else repeats it. You can’t ever tell who said it first. Pure laziness.
The story I heard/read in several places was essentially: “Moyer is pitching badly in the playoffs because teams have time to read the scouting report on him.” Somehow we’re supposed to believe that during the regular season they don’t read scouting reports?
I kinda thought he might have the night of his life tonight.
OH OH GO RYAN!!!!!!!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
Boston is at home watching this game wondering where this version of Garza was on Sunday…..
October 26th, 2008 at 12:00 am
Okay, roll the Subway commercial…. I’m happy now….
Jamie the bandbox comment was a joke, Chill some. I’m as annoyed by them as well.
So back-to-back-to-back? Yes please?
October 26th, 2008 at 12:01 am
Dave – only if Burrell finds a way to hit it oppo.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:01 am
I heard some boos for Burrell there.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:01 am
Matty… yes. In a word, yes. But you can see how he can just cruise right along. But you can also see how he can make mistakes.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:01 am
I forgot that was Pat-the-K at the plate…..
October 26th, 2008 at 12:02 am
Brewtown,
What is sad is that no one looked and saw that Moyer has always sucked against the Dodgers, and that he hadn’t pitched at home yet in the playoffs. Many of these experts basically say things to get you to call in and do no show-prep what so ever, then expect us to feel bad when they get canned. Most of them are ass-hats.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:03 am
Oh, Dave, if you made a bandbox comment I didn’t see it. My comment was directed at Joe Buck not you.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:04 am
“One of the things that’s annoying about the national sports media – which out here is all I ever hear – is that one guy says something and everybody else repeats it. You can’t ever tell who said it first. Pure laziness.”
Reminds me of the national media calling James Shields “Big Game James”
October 26th, 2008 at 12:04 am
Burrell’s strike 3 wasn’t a strike, but it’s been called one all night, and was definitely too close to take.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:05 am
I just love it when a stand-up guy like Moyer shuts them all up with a clutch performance like this has been.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:05 am
Ish,
Couldn’t agree more, which is why I thought he would come up big tonight. He didn’t win all those games this season because of luck, and his start against Milwaukee wasn’t as horrendous as it looked. Basically everyone in the nat-media looked at his last start against a team he has aways sucked against and used that unreliable sample as the template of his career.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:06 am
Ish, that’s no shit. I’d never even heard of James Shields earlier in the year when I heard people calling him that. I thought he was a wrestler or something.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:07 am
so this saved by zero commercial can go to hell any minute now
October 26th, 2008 at 12:08 am
What a play by both of them, blown call.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:08 am
ugh, come on, the 45 year old man dives for the ball. he was out!
October 26th, 2008 at 12:08 am
That was a BS call.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:08 am
another shit call goes against the Phillies, holy christ
October 26th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Wow. Terrible terrible terrible call there! Wow.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Bad call. Do we get replays in this park?
October 26th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Bad calls always feel like bad mojo. Let’s hope Moyer can make quick work of this inning anyway.
Good thing for that three-run cushion, eh?
October 26th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Okay, let’s talk off-season speculation….
Will the Phils bring Moyer back? Two year contract for around $5-7 mil per? I think that’s fair, and I think he’d take it.
Conversation?
October 26th, 2008 at 12:09 am
That was an amazing play by Moyer and Howard also. What a cruddy call.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:11 am
A 16-7 pitcher for $5-7 mil is a bargain these days. I’d go for it. Tim Wakefield was 10-11 this year for Boston and they’ll pay him $4 million next year and that is considered a huge bargain.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:11 am
Jamie, I was just thinking earlier, why couldn’t Moyer do this until he’s 50 or so? It’s not like he’s throwing 95mph fastballs or anything.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:11 am
Terrible call by Hallion. He’s usually pretty good, and I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt since Howard’s body blocked his view. I think he just couldn’t see the ball get caught by Ryan.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:12 am
ughhhhhh, stupid ump
October 26th, 2008 at 12:12 am
Damnit, its so obvious that the blown call is gonna kill us.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:12 am
That’s what I meant by bad mojo. Damn.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:13 am
This is what annoys me though about that BS call. It gets to situations like this.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:14 am
Going into this AB, it’s not a bad idea to pitch to him.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:14 am
Thank you Jamie Moyer.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:15 am
Three cheers for Jamie Moyer!
October 26th, 2008 at 12:15 am
I love that Moyer can’t lose this game. Thank you, Jamie!
October 26th, 2008 at 12:15 am
Moyer would gladly take $5 – $7, probably even less. He is only making $3.5 this year, and would probably take something close to that.
Great play by Howard. We could use a strikeout here to keep it a 4-2 game going into the bottom of the 7th.
GREAT start by Moyer. Classy guy, and he deserves a ring.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:15 am
Great start by Moyer. Now gotta keep and preserve this lead (and tack on).
October 26th, 2008 at 12:16 am
Each manager having one opportunity per game (even if it was just in the playoffs) to challenge a non-home run call is something I think makes sense and is important for the integrity of the game. But nothing like that would happen for a few more years, I don’t think.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:16 am
great game by Moyer, could’ve had shutout if it wasn’t for the bad call by the ump and the bloop hit
October 26th, 2008 at 12:17 am
That was a lot of fun to watch. That was a world class performance right there.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:18 am
That’s the kind of pitching performance that becomes legendary.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:18 am
Bricka bracka firecracker sis boom bah! Jamie Moyer! Jamie Moyer! RAH RAH RAH!”
October 26th, 2008 at 12:18 am
Just like that it’s a one run game.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:19 am
Damn, these guys are effing pesky. One more of these RBI groundouts and I’m going to freak.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:19 am
That call sucks balls…if we lose or they tie it, I’ll be one pissed hombre.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:19 am
But no more Garza. At least there’s that.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:19 am
One run game on a total BS call.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:20 am
grumble…Durbin…grumble…
October 26th, 2008 at 12:21 am
Who is throwing for Tampa?
October 26th, 2008 at 12:22 am
Durbin has been struggling these past couple months. Or maybe he’s just come down to earth a bit…hard to tell. Regardless, he’ll be looking for a payday in the off-season, but I don’t think the Phils should throw money at him like we did with Romero. Make him an offer, but don’t overdo it.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:23 am
Bradford was up the last I saw.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:23 am
You just CANNOT give the walk in that situation.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:24 am
I saw Trevor Miller and Chad Bradford warming for Tampa… Wouldn’t surprise me if they went to Balfour in the bottom half. So far it’s just Bradford warming.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:26 am
Good job by Eyre!
October 26th, 2008 at 12:26 am
yea Eyre
October 26th, 2008 at 12:26 am
Whew. Alright maybe we can tack on a run at some point.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:26 am
Nice job, Scotty. Now let’s get those runs back.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:26 am
OK Eyre – thanks for making that interesting!
October 26th, 2008 at 12:27 am
HUGE strikeout! If Madson can take care of business in the 8th, Lidge will face the bottom of the line-up in the bottom of the 9th.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:27 am
Romero is one of those guys I’ll be happy for if the Phillies win the series. Started last season with Boston, was designated for assignment and ended up in Philly while the Red Sox went on and won the World Series. Be nice to see him on the world champion team this year.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:27 am
Thank the baseball gods for that strike out.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:28 am
Madson will get a tough part of the Rays’ order. I really want an insurance run here…….
October 26th, 2008 at 12:28 am
Ehhh, that rendition was kinda rough – no offense to her.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:30 am
Ruiz/Dobbs/J-Roll leading the inning off. We’re getting some here, boys and girls.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:30 am
Ugh. Another Ashton Kutcher Nikon commercial.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:31 am
Okay its Chooch, a PH and then Rollins.
We need at least one run out of this.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:31 am
Quick poll: a month ago, how many of us would’ve had high expectations of Ruiz in a crucial late inning at-bat in the postseason?
October 26th, 2008 at 12:31 am
NEPA, my ears were bleeding a little bit there too. She gave a good effort, and I’ll commend her for that. I’d be a little nervous singing in front of that many people.
SJ, we could sure use some more here, no doubt. Madson and Lidge have been stellar, but it would be nice to have two or three to work with.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:31 am
Brad Chadford.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:32 am
I HATE submarine pitchers. And I can never hit off Bradford on Playstation.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:32 am
why does Matt Stairs never hit?
October 26th, 2008 at 12:32 am
Howell is throwing for Utley and Howard I take it.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:32 am
Nikon seems to be dominating inside the photo wells. Their new pro cameras are just amazing….. but Ashton Kutcher is just a C.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:33 am
Jeffrey, not this guy. I had no faith in him offensively, but I love his defense and handling of the staff.
I also like Charlie’s use of Jenkins here over Dobbs. At least for now — let’s see what he does.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:33 am
I listened to two national anthems tonight (Boston Bruins game before this). Decided to put GBA on mute for this one. Chose wisely, I guess.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:34 am
I would not feel afraid of Howell at all. Bring him on.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:34 am
I like saving Dobbs because he’s more situational.
I wonder why not Stairs, but I guess with the underarm delivery, Jenkins is more accustomed.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:34 am
HAHA Jeffrey, agreed. I could never hit submarine pitchers or knuckleballers.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:35 am
Watching Jenkins get nothing done brings back memories of the first half of the season. He’s been a waste of money.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:36 am
Where is the friggin’ crowd??? I’m being louder from my couch in Florida than these guys are.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:36 am
I’d save Stairs for Balfour or maybe even Wheeler if that comes about. Hopefully it won’t.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:37 am
6 more outs. Let’s go.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:37 am
Ish put it this way thank God our military doesn’t fight with microphones
October 26th, 2008 at 12:38 am
Ok let’s get 6 outs and get Jamie a HUGE win here
October 26th, 2008 at 12:38 am
lets go Madson
October 26th, 2008 at 12:39 am
Actually, maybe they should fight with microphones – probably disable the opponent.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:39 am
Jenkins is our best low-ball hitter off the bench, which matches him well with Bradford. Dobbs is situational, and can move runners over and drive the ball in the gap with runners on, and Stairs just flat out hits HR’s. You want him going against someone bringing heat. It was the right call by Charlie. Jenkins put the ball in play, but it just didn’t work out the way we would have liked.
We still have the lead, and our two best pieces of the bullpen are coming up. Have some phaith.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:41 am
Madson should throw him that change up again.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:41 am
blah
October 26th, 2008 at 12:41 am
We need a DP.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:42 am
Pesky pesky pesky. Why isn’t the crowd trying to intimidate these guys?
October 26th, 2008 at 12:42 am
oh man, oh man, i sure liked 4-1. those were the minutes. starting to go outside so i can throw my mini quiet tamtrams. Go Phils!, C’Mon, win it for Jamie, one of two Phillies older then me. Need a Homer w/ a runner on. that would be great. Darn it, C’ Mon Madson, earn another million on your next year contract. ahhh, Fudgesickles! C’Mon! Go Phillies!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 12:43 am
just loving the phillies game stress.
tums & pepto
October 26th, 2008 at 12:43 am
Not liking this a whole lot. Upton’s going to go to second. Just a matter of when. Then a base hit can tie the game. I’d say just let Upton go and pay attention on getting Pena and Longoria out.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:43 am
come on Madson, please
October 26th, 2008 at 12:44 am
Anybody still fuming over that bad call that resulted in the runs last inning? I am right now in this situation.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:44 am
Fudgesickles?
October 26th, 2008 at 12:44 am
Obligatory clock shot…
October 26th, 2008 at 12:44 am
SJ Mike… you and the rest of PhilliesNation…..
October 26th, 2008 at 12:45 am
Surprised Pena let off of that one.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:45 am
SJ, I’ll still be fuming over that tomorrow!
October 26th, 2008 at 12:45 am
this is so stressful . . .
October 26th, 2008 at 12:45 am
I’m truly surprised Upton never stole second in that at-bat.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:46 am
Huge K there for Madson.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:46 am
i have no fingernails left…
October 26th, 2008 at 12:46 am
Just as I say that…
October 26th, 2008 at 12:46 am
and theres that steal
October 26th, 2008 at 12:47 am
crappppppppppppppppppp
October 26th, 2008 at 12:47 am
jesus christ
October 26th, 2008 at 12:47 am
Christ.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:47 am
UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
October 26th, 2008 at 12:47 am
AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 12:47 am
poor Moyer
October 26th, 2008 at 12:47 am
wtf
October 26th, 2008 at 12:47 am
Ugh. Ass hat.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:47 am
Total BS. 2 runs last inning given by the umpires.
Just blatant horrible calls against the Phils this series.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:48 am
And there goes Moyer’s W. Shame.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:48 am
Yeah, extra innings would really suck tonight.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:48 am
Goddammmitttttttt
October 26th, 2008 at 12:49 am
Madson didn’t pitch all that bad. Kept the ball in the infield. Upton is just fast as hell.
But still, those 2 freakin’ runs last inning over that BS call. I want to be able to storm someone at MLB of this.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:49 am
GOD DAMNIT! That Hallion call sure fu*ked us alright. It should be 4-2. Crawford would have been the 1st out of that inning, the groundout that scored him would have been the 2nd, and the 3rd groundout that scored Navarro would have ended the inning with nobody scoring. If we lose, I’m going to hunt Hallion down and slit that prick’s throat!
October 26th, 2008 at 12:50 am
Werth, Utley and Howard due up… Its not over yet. But we should be long out of this inning already.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:50 am
If this game goes into extras, I’m going to have to brew some coffee.
Also, we’re going to have to pretty deep into our bullpen if we don’t get the lead back while the Rays still have Price, who can go multiple innings.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:50 am
stupid first base umpire
October 26th, 2008 at 12:51 am
I don’t like our chances right now.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:51 am
SJ Mike – the Phils have been jobbed this entire WS, between the Umpires (worse) and the biased idiots on Fox.
But I have faith they are gonna get a run back in the 8th, if Romero can just hold it here.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:51 am
Upton plays with a sense of entitlement. I hate that about him. Maddon had to bench him a few times this season for not hustling.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:51 am
Um, batters interference in the throw? F.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:51 am
See, this is why people my age have become so negative, shit like this always happens to Philly teams. I mean, really, what are the chances that your QB is going to be throwing up in the Superbowl? And always bad calls, especially the Flyers, calls that can change the momentum of the game, like this one. Christ on a crutch!
October 26th, 2008 at 12:52 am
Okay, lets win this F*cking game.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:52 am
Ok Let’s Go Phils – big bats in the 8th…
October 26th, 2008 at 12:52 am
OK, We’re alive here. We need Utley and Howard to come up big again.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:53 am
I still like the chances. It would just be nice if they could get that run quickly so we can go to bed. I’ve invested enough time in this already. I want to see the rest of it.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:53 am
Dame this sucks…If the Rays win this game by 1 run, that pos ump at 1st base cost the Phils the game…It’s pretty clear this idiots are betting on the Rays because thats the 3rd blown call on the Phils the last 2 games.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:54 am
Moyer deserves this game. This team deserves this game. This team deserves this series and I’ll be damned if some bloated arrogant umpire crew steals it from us.
Get some big hits, guys!
October 26th, 2008 at 12:54 am
My DVR just shut off before that last out of the 8th…. I hate cable….
October 26th, 2008 at 12:54 am
I dislike the fact that the Rays have scored all their runs without a hit.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:55 am
Lets get a walk and go from there…..
October 26th, 2008 at 12:56 am
ya gotta believe….think positive, we can do it.
Just what makes that little old ant
Think hell move that rubber tree plant
Anyone knows an ant, cant
Move a rubber tree plant
But hes got high hopes, hes got high hopes
Hes got high apple pie, in the sky hopes
October 26th, 2008 at 12:56 am
I hope Werth gets on and steals 2nd and 3rd.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:56 am
nice walk Werth
October 26th, 2008 at 12:56 am
Okay, lets manufacture a run.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:56 am
I like it, NEPA: poetic justice.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:57 am
Let’s use some smart base running this time, Werth.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:57 am
what’s the next play – do the Phils try to play small ball and have Utley push Werth over, or do you hit away now?
October 26th, 2008 at 12:57 am
I’m positive that Joe Buck is the biggest C is professional broadcasting.
If i hear about the legs of B.J.Upton one more goddammed time….
October 26th, 2008 at 12:58 am
Cannot have a double play ball in this situation. Hit and run or SOMETHING! Howard will not deliver this inning
October 26th, 2008 at 12:58 am
yes exactly, the one run is responsible for 2 runs that would not have scored. that would have been 1 out, and then the double fine. the next two outs were groundouts, therefore that double would have been harmless. these f-ing umps really need to be evaluated after this series
October 26th, 2008 at 12:58 am
AC, if they are playing the shift on Utley, I say push bunt to the left/3rd base.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:58 am
Okay – I’ve got three kids under ten and I leave for work most mornings at 7:30. I haven’t seen 1:00 am in quite a while. My wife is here on the couch in front of the TV with me, but her eyes are closed and she’s asked me not to startle her with sudden shouts of joy or rage.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:59 am
focus on getting on base, and manufacture runs. TB doing a good job at it. Phillies are doing a poor job of it. I think we as a team are all looking to drive HRs and not doing enough to make contacts
October 26th, 2008 at 12:59 am
Don’t say that….Howard will deliver!
October 26th, 2008 at 12:59 am
This is where it kills us letting Utley and Howard bat back to back.
October 26th, 2008 at 12:59 am
If they have the Utley shift on, I’d favor him putting a bunt down along the line.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:00 am
i agree SJ Mike…and absolutely stay away from the DP
October 26th, 2008 at 1:00 am
Agreed 100% Jamie. If that shift is on I say put one down.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:01 am
Howell didn’t get many big outs in the ALCS… There were a couple of times where it looked like he was going to pee his pants. The nervousness was dripping off of him. Patience.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:01 am
Werth needs to steal a bag.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:02 am
That’s a huge shift. Chase could drop one down and end up on second.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:02 am
Maybe just flick the bat rather than an actual bunt. But how can you not take advantage?
October 26th, 2008 at 1:02 am
why not bunt to 3rd?
October 26th, 2008 at 1:04 am
YES!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:04 am
HUGE steal!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:04 am
Great steal by Werth.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:04 am
yeh baby
October 26th, 2008 at 1:04 am
Okay. Now to steal 3rd.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:04 am
What a throw by Navarro.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:04 am
F***ing BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:05 am
Now we can scrap this bunt nonsense and focus on dunking one into right field. Focus on right field because Gross has a noodle arm. Upton’s got a very strong arm in center.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:05 am
Utley, that was terrible.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:05 am
Keeeeeey-rist.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:06 am
dammit chase….
October 26th, 2008 at 1:06 am
ugh Utley, a bunt would’ve been cool
October 26th, 2008 at 1:06 am
OMG
October 26th, 2008 at 1:06 am
F*uck looks like were gonna stand another RISP.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:07 am
complete mental weakness.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:07 am
Ugh. That was huge too.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:07 am
Oh fo the love of ever… who didnt know there wasnt a play on?
October 26th, 2008 at 1:07 am
ugh Werth, disgusting
October 26th, 2008 at 1:07 am
that was so ugly, dammit!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:07 am
Oh jesus.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:07 am
f*ck me, f*ck me, again and again
October 26th, 2008 at 1:07 am
I think I’m going to throw up.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:08 am
Nevermind we don’t have a RISP now.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:08 am
WTF was Werth trying to do? He’s already in scoring position and the 3rd baseman is on 2nd and he is messing around. HORRIBLE!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:08 am
watch howard now will be able to hit a single with no one on.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:08 am
Great job!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:08 am
The guy was standing on second! It was so obvious!
Now fing groove a fastball to howard….
October 26th, 2008 at 1:08 am
so nice to be a Philly fan at times like these
October 26th, 2008 at 1:10 am
Utley should’ve been looking to bunt to move Werth over instead of swinging at sh*t
October 26th, 2008 at 1:10 am
And still, last inning…..should still be up by 2 runs had that umpire made the right freakin’ call.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:10 am
like i said before, the team is infactuated with HRs, and not making plays to plate runners
October 26th, 2008 at 1:10 am
Howard needs to be bumped down to 7 or 8 hole. how long can we have this in the heart of our order.??? This could lose us the series.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:10 am
Yes, nice. I remember this feeling all too well.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:10 am
This is not good for the Phils, huge momentum shift for the Rays.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:10 am
this is so disgusting. i almost want to turn it off
October 26th, 2008 at 1:10 am
blah blah blah
October 26th, 2008 at 1:11 am
Lidge should be coming on to save it right now if it wasn’t for that f*ucking ump.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:11 am
Well, if its going to be a win, its gonna bea memorable one – walk off.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:12 am
Utley should have sacrificed idiot Werth over, which would have put him on 3rd with 1 out. A sac fly puts us ahead. But NOOOOOOOO. We gotta dance around out there and fu*k away an opportunity to end this thing. I’m as mad as a God damned hornet right now over this sh!t
October 26th, 2008 at 1:12 am
Hawaiian walk-off anyone?
October 26th, 2008 at 1:13 am
What pisses me off is that there is zero accountability in these umpires. It makes me freakin’ sick.
Game 2 was ridiculous with Danley and that call at first was ridiculous tonight.
These aren’t judgement calls they are screwing up. It is just blatantly wrong calls all together.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:13 am
Seriously, we cannot have our 4 hitter strike out 25 times in 6-7 games and expect to compete in this series. Would somebody please address the god**mn pink elephant in the room?
October 26th, 2008 at 1:13 am
james, you have your big chance in the bottom of the 9th. Your star Bruntlett will be leading off. He’ll have his chance – decent speed, so if he gets on, he has a good chance at scoring on a single or extra base hit.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:14 am
Jamie, if you mean that Utley should have tried to bunt him over at that point, it wold have been very high risk with two strikes already. I don’t know.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:14 am
hey, the ump at 1st got a call right finally
October 26th, 2008 at 1:15 am
You have to ask Manuel why there are so many boneheaded moves over the last several games, and what he has done to address it.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:16 am
Werth and his error in the field last game and baserunning errors is starting to become extremely costly as well
October 26th, 2008 at 1:17 am
No Joe Buck, it was the horrible calls from the first base umpire that brought about the tie. Upton should’ve only been the 2nd run.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:17 am
gotta get bartlett now…c’mon
October 26th, 2008 at 1:17 am
AC, wasn’t Werth on 2nd with only 1 strike on Utley? If there was two, then I wouldn’t try to bunt, but I thought there was only one.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:18 am
Yeah, I think youre right Jamie, I thought he stole second on strike 2, but the ump called it a ball. It was a 3-1 after the steal.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:19 am
Pink elephant… comments anyone?
October 26th, 2008 at 1:19 am
I remember the last time i felt this way.
1993. Game 4. The “Nightmare.”
October 26th, 2008 at 1:20 am
Good inning by Romero. Let’s walk it off!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:20 am
Great job Romero, his control always scares me. Let’s please end this.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:20 am
ok now…walk off 9th time
October 26th, 2008 at 1:20 am
Okay, fellas. Let’s forget about all the problems that have plagued us tonight and just push one across.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:21 am
Let’s go Bruntlett!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:21 am
STAY POSITIVE – STAY POSITIVE!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:21 am
Come on lets win this game and go beat the sh*t out of the moron at 1st base.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:21 am
bullpen low on arms at this point too.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:21 am
I could almost forget that bad call if they get a walk off.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:21 am
I say Feliz is due for a big one here.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:22 am
Okay, I’m positive that Flying Hawaiian will end this before i ahve to tell my DVR to record more.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:22 am
Hey, we got two innings to score more runs (I figure Lidge is money). Let’s not give up!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:22 am
PH for Burrell? WHY!?!? I’d take my chances with the bat.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:23 am
here we go, let’s go, let’s do it
October 26th, 2008 at 1:23 am
Our wonderful announcers neglected to tell us that bruntlett went in for burrell last inning
October 26th, 2008 at 1:23 am
Dave, Bruntlett was in for a couple innings now.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:24 am
Come on bearded one put one out!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:24 am
Whoever it was earlier who said they’d rather have Bruntlett than Burrell is getting his wish here.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:24 am
WAY TO TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM BRUNTLETT!!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:24 am
Take one for the game Bruntlett. Good deal.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:24 am
great HBP there… let’s not waste this please!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:24 am
we’ll take it any way we can get it
October 26th, 2008 at 1:24 am
Taking one for the team! (and city)
October 26th, 2008 at 1:24 am
Nice
October 26th, 2008 at 1:25 am
HBP… good a start as any.
Time for Grant Ball-Four.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:25 am
Bruntlett on base, taking one for the team.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:25 am
Haha, nice. Thank god Bruntlett couldn’t find a way to evade that pitch.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:25 am
Thanks Mike, i totally missed that.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:25 am
Dave -
Joe Maddon may be f*cking with your DVR plans. How much time you got?
October 26th, 2008 at 1:26 am
Do you bunt shane here I say no but he probably will
October 26th, 2008 at 1:26 am
Do you go for the win and pinch hit Stairs or Dobbs for Feliz or Ruiz or keep them in and hope for the best?
October 26th, 2008 at 1:26 am
You have to bunt him over, Ruiz after Feliz has been our best hitter. And do you bat dobbs for Feliz with balfour coming in?
October 26th, 2008 at 1:26 am
Balfour vs. Stairs. I’d like that match-up.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:26 am
It’s been such a strange postseason that seeing them get the lead-off runner on base doesn’t actually make me feel like anything’s going to happen.
Prove me wrong, Phils!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:27 am
Should they pinch run Taguchi
October 26th, 2008 at 1:28 am
Bruntlett shall be our rock star for world series, watch him score the winning run!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:28 am
I’m going to watch the rest of this one from my bed. It was very cool chatting with you all tonight. Here’s to a Phillies walk-off.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:28 am
lol…the bearded one. We still have Happ and Condrey in the pen besides Lidge, so we could go another 7 or 8 at least, I’d think…maybe longer.
HOWEVER, let’s just end this now to save a little time. Vic bunts him over, and Pete Happy has his chance. Does Charlie PH Dobbs for Feliz at that point? RHP v. Dobbs is better than vs. Feliz…
October 26th, 2008 at 1:29 am
Im fine on the DVR until 2… burning this to DVD is gonna suck….
October 26th, 2008 at 1:29 am
how about all the people in bars right now that have been watching the game….gonna be kicked out in 20 minutes….that sucks
October 26th, 2008 at 1:29 am
HOLY SHIT YESSSS
October 26th, 2008 at 1:29 am
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Better then a sac bunt!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:29 am
HOLY SH!T
October 26th, 2008 at 1:29 am
Holy Cow!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:29 am
as i called it
October 26th, 2008 at 1:29 am
OMG OMG OMG OMG x like a billion times
October 26th, 2008 at 1:29 am
Now THAT’s poetic justice!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:29 am
yeah baby – now let’s go!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:30 am
Come on just a base hit.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:30 am
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH DADDY!
A little redemption may be feasted here, boys and girls. About time something swings our way…now, we just have to figure out a way to get the runner in.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:30 am
If they do not score this run, I might have to turn the game off.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:30 am
WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:30 am
Come on, anything, get him in. Sac fly. Base hit. I don’t care, just get him in!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:30 am
Ive never seen a WP on an IBB before….
October 26th, 2008 at 1:31 am
Shane has got to steal. Keep double play out of order.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:31 am
Geez now it’s up too choke in the clutch Pedro.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:31 am
Chooch will be coming up with them loaded. Do you PH Stairs for Chooch and hope he hits a deep fly to the OF for the sac? I think so. Chooch has been hot and all, but he’s prone to DP’s.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:31 am
Double steal to win it?
October 26th, 2008 at 1:31 am
i say vic steals the base now…probably will be defensive indifference. but wait until after the first pitch from balfour, see if its another pass to Dobbs
October 26th, 2008 at 1:31 am
Maybe they’ll bring in Wheeler and he can toss one into the Press Box. ANYTHING to get that run home. The Rays have gotten so many cheap RBI groundouts this series. PLEASE just get this run in.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:32 am
wow…this is strange…..
October 26th, 2008 at 1:32 am
WTF is that crazy old man up to?
October 26th, 2008 at 1:32 am
why is the ump giving Maddon all this time to set his team????
October 26th, 2008 at 1:32 am
Upton, get your hand out of your pants!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:32 am
whatever happens, i admire TB for trying everything. Something Charlie seems too hands-off to do
October 26th, 2008 at 1:32 am
Maddon is even more annoying than Tony La Russa with this “creative” managing.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:33 am
come on Dobbs!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:33 am
I can’t believe they aren’t going to load them….what’s their strategy?
October 26th, 2008 at 1:33 am
What the hell kind of defense is that?
October 26th, 2008 at 1:33 am
jesus, this guy does think outside the box.
Ruiz is coming up with the bases loaded. NOT GOOD. He might revert back to his old ways.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:33 am
This crazy defense can’t work, can it?
October 26th, 2008 at 1:33 am
Isn’t that like the Tampa 2?
October 26th, 2008 at 1:33 am
come on Ruiz, Coste, Stairs, whoever bats
October 26th, 2008 at 1:34 am
Okay, its simple for Chooch. Get a walk.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:34 am
They’re playing the prevent!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:34 am
STAY POSITIVE, STAY POSITIVE….
October 26th, 2008 at 1:35 am
Come on Ruiz. Just get the ball in some kind of play.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:35 am
this is crazy stuff… lets go chooch!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:35 am
I kinda like that crazy Maddon fella. He definitely thinks outside of the box.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:35 am
Haha, this is great TV though. People who don’t watch this series because their team isn’t in it is really missing out. But it is 1:44 AM, so I’ll give them a break.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:35 am
just get it up (cough… that’s what she said)
October 26th, 2008 at 1:35 am
… Ive never seen this before….
I covered an entire College season this year, saw two suicide squeeses with bases loaded in HS ball this yeah but This… NEVER….
October 26th, 2008 at 1:35 am
The only thing the Prevent defense does is prevent you from winning.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:36 am
This is so annoying. 170+ years of baseball and this guy thinks he’s outsmarted everyone who’s ever played and managed? These are just parlor tricks.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:36 am
How crazy would a Chooch walk-off be after his poor offensive year? Give the guy some kudos…let’s get ‘er done!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:36 am
git those flags movin
October 26th, 2008 at 1:37 am
F*CK THIS BALFOUR
October 26th, 2008 at 1:37 am
hit the ball in the air and we win….
October 26th, 2008 at 1:37 am
YEEEEESSSSSSS
October 26th, 2008 at 1:37 am
HOLY SHIT!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:38 am

October 26th, 2008 at 1:38 am
Wooooo!!!!!!!!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:38 am
YYYESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
October 26th, 2008 at 1:38 am
YEAHHHHHH!!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:38 am
NEEDED A 9 MAN INFIELD I GUESS.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:38 am
WOOOOO!!!!
Thank you Lord! TWO MORE!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:38 am
Chooch for the Ashburn!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:38 am
YEA!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:39 am
Whatever it takes!
(Did Ruiz ever actually touch first base?)
October 26th, 2008 at 1:39 am
PAYBACK IS A B*TCH, TAMPA BAY MADDONS!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:39 am
“Well, if its going to be a win, its gonna bea memorable one…”
Uh, yeah.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:39 am
Can we go to bed finally! Man, I’m so pumped up, I’m never going to get to sleep now!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:39 am
That was the most bizarre game Ive ever seen in the big leagues.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:39 am
The power duo of Bruntlett and Ruiz! The unlikely heros continue to produce runs.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:39 am
The damn infield looked like a Chinese fire drill with everyone running around all crazylike.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:40 am
Wow was that terrible by Longoria, he could’ve had him if he didn’t rush like a moron.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:40 am
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
YEAH PHILLIES!!!!!!
RUIZ is Da Man!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:40 am
YYYYYYYYYEWEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:41 am
Hey, this is just like that game-winning hit Rowand had for us last year!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:41 am
…a great night for lumberjacks everywhere…
October 26th, 2008 at 1:42 am
Good God…Bruntlett looks like one of those guys from the lumberjack tree-chopping contests.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:42 am
I dunno – Moyer should get the Ashburn.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:42 am
I think that ball goes foul if he lets it roll
October 26th, 2008 at 1:42 am
AWESOME – PLAYER OF THE GAME IS MOYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:42 am
Definitly Ruiz for the Ashburn…He laid that ball down perfect Longoria didn’t have a chance.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:42 am
my headline for tomorrow…. “A Win for the Ageless”…. granted moyer didn’t get the win…
October 26th, 2008 at 1:42 am
Moyer was friggin awesome
October 26th, 2008 at 1:43 am
Moyer for the Ashburn!!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:43 am
That was…. What the hell was that!?!?!? Its a win, I’ll take it. Just gotta win two.
TWO MORE WINS!!!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:43 am
Moyer, punch that little Rosenthal midget right in the c*cksucker! He’s been an anti-Philly piece of shit all postseason!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:43 am
Longoria always seems to be involved in many of the momentum shifts when it comes to his defense. Happened with a lot of his errors in the ALCS and carries over to the World Series.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:44 am
How about Moyer? All those years away and he still sounds just like a kid from St. Joe’s when he talks. Awesome.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:44 am
wow, what a game, now tomorrow shall be the same
October 26th, 2008 at 1:44 am
Jamie, Rosenthal is generally saying good things about Philly on Daily News Live when he is on weekly.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:45 am
JUST AWESOME! IS THE CURSE FINALLY LIFTING OFF OF PHILLY’S BACK…TWO MORE TO GO!
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
October 26th, 2008 at 1:45 am
They’ve gotta be disheartened now – I think we have a real chance to win this thing in Philly!

My best friend texted me this.
“Maybe they should have had a 6 man infield.”
October 26th, 2008 at 1:45 am
Yea, I actually like Rosenthal, just from DNL.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:45 am
2 to go!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:45 am
Player of the game culd ahve gone to Ruiz, but great job by Moyer as well
October 26th, 2008 at 1:46 am
Hey, remember when we used to dread Ruiz’s ab’s?
October 26th, 2008 at 1:47 am
SJ, sure he is…when he’s on a Philly station. Try reading the shit he posts on Fox Sports.com. All this crap about how much better the Rays are, how bad the Phillies are, etc. etc. Can’t stand the little midget.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:47 am
What do you all think this will do to Tampa’s psyche for tomorrow night’s game?
October 26th, 2008 at 1:48 am
@Mike Yeah, that was like two weeks ago. That’s the World Series for ya!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:49 am
I used to like Rosenthal, to be honest. His anti-Philly postseason coverage has really turned me off. Says we’re going to lose to the Dodgers because they are SOOOOO much better than us, and how we’re going to lose to the Rays. I think he also picked us to lose to Milwaukee if I remember correctly, but I may be wrong on that one.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:50 am
I love Joe going tomorrow night for us. I think he’s got the right poise to be on the mound to bridge us to Cole on Monday. If we win tomorrow, the City of Philadelphia will be absolutely nuts on Monday night!

Bruntlett is officially our good luck charm for this series, good stuff seems to happen when he’s in there!
October 26th, 2008 at 1:52 am
Oh wow, on Comcast Sportsnet, they just said that Tim McGraw laid some of Tugger’s ashes on the pitching mound today.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:53 am
Wow, Tim McGraw sprinkled some of Tug’s ashes on the mound tonight.
October 26th, 2008 at 1:56 am
I can still see Tug giving me a thumbs up from the bus on their way to Montreal to clinch in 1980.
October 26th, 2008 at 2:03 am
Can’t beat that yeeaaahhh
October 26th, 2008 at 2:03 am
Bruntlett=some kind of Nordic Viking god. Like Odin.
Ruiz=the man
Phillies=2 games away from victory
me + everyone else from Philly: ECSTATIC!!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 2:04 am
Ruiz should get the Ashburn. The guy really came to play.
October 26th, 2008 at 2:04 am
God bless the TUGGER. Lefty just grabbed Wheels’ ass in the concourse during a post game interview with Guidel. Ashes on the mound, Lefty in the house, Schmity with the email before he Mets series, the ghosts have come home to support this team. We definately have somethin special going on here people.

Moyer for Ashburn
October 26th, 2008 at 2:06 am
Moyer threw an awesome game, and in reality, he only gave up like 1 run (2 of which giftwrapped by the first base umpire).
Without Moyer throwing the way he did, we do not win this game.
October 26th, 2008 at 2:12 am
Just got back from the game, I was 9 rows off the field. MADNESS. Un-freaking believable.
October 26th, 2008 at 2:14 am
But who called Moyer’s awesome game?
October 26th, 2008 at 2:15 am
Who, Mike? This guy.

Here is a link to the background music the Phillies played especially for the Rays introduction before Game 3.
