Your Gamenight Beer
I’m going heavy tonight with an old favorite, Dogfish Head’s 90 Minute IPA. That’s right, it’s the Delaware beer with a Pennsylvania pop. Strong like bull, it’ll put you down for the night and tuck you in. But not before taking in game four. Hey, let’s get this one. Then we can walk around with stars in our eyes for a day. Seriously, I have a good feeling today. Go tailgate; get ready, get set, and go Phils!
Go Phillies!

Didn’t Crawford homer off Hamels in game one?
October 26th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
Right you are, Jeffrey. Off Hamels.
October 26th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
AmI the only one that thinks thsi weekend is Philly sports weekkend and it means SOMETHING? Flyers win both games fri and sat. Phils win Saturday. All college temas won except Villanoa. Eagles with a spectacular win today…2 more left. lets do it phils!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
Yeah, Crawford hit a homer off of Hamels in game 1. This will be a great weekend for Philadelphia sports if the Phillies win tonight and tomorrow! GO PHILLIES!
October 26th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
Can you guys help me out. We’re at the park with no tix lookin for a place to watch the game. Not mcfadden’s or chickies. Want a little local joint with good beer and nice tvs. We can take septa. Just let me know the stop and i can ask from there.
October 26th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Rick, go to the Devil’s Den at 11th and Federal. Hop on the subway and get off at Federal. 2 giant LCD TV’s. $3 Yard’s ESA’s and PBC Kennzinger’s(spelling), and the crowd will be really into the Phillies. They have great food too.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Hey Rick I’m liking the Field House at Reading Terminal its at 12th & Filbert downtown. It has a bunch of TVs, the whole place is in surround sound, good drinks and beautiful women in and out.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:23 pm
seems like Werth is batting 2nd and Victorino is batting 6th, oh and Feliz batting 7th.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
well I certainly hope the Phils get this one, it will shut up my Mets fan roomate.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
Samiam, kinda odd that a Met fan is talking any kind of smack. Last I checked, they missed the playoffs 2 years in a row and aren’t playing.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
6 strong from Blanton with no mental errors and this series is all but in the books…
October 26th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
well he did that last year. He tried to draw a rockies logo and place it on my desk. I then asked him about how the mets did in the postseason, before reminding him they didn’t make it.
I go to school in CT, and there are tons of Mets fans here, or at least more than last year. I can’t tell if they’re for real or bandwagon.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
SJ Mike, my roomate believe the phils didn’t really win the division, the mets just choked it. he kept repeating that stat where if the games ended after 8 innings the mets would have won. He told me next year the BP will improve and the phils won’t be able to beat the “superior” mets team
October 26th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
Thanks phil. We’re already here. If we find we need a change of scenery we might go checkout the reading terminal. Great beer selection here though!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Yo guys I went to yesterday’s game at CBP…what can I say? I was a mess –it was a rollercoaster of emotions that ended with another great play by Ruiz, who has been this WS MVP in my opinion. I think Jamie was outstanding on the mound. Only 1 run by the end of the sixth… Pretty solid (sending him out in the 7th you could expect the Rays to get a run or two). Still the game was incredible. My only BUT were the fans –I thought it was gonna be insane, especially being in rowdy section 434, but people were not as loud as in the division clincher or game 2 nlcs –both games I attended. I was trying to get them on their feet all the time but failed miserably. WE NEED TO BE LOUD FOR CHRISTS SAKE ITS THE WORLD SERIES!!
Let’s hope fat Joe has a good game tonight. Yesterday I felt this team was up to something and they seem focused and locked in. Goosebumps!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
Samiam,
Tim has said it here before. It takes 2 to tango. If the Mets were so superior, they wouldn’t have choked it up 2 years in a row. And this season, the Phils held first place for over 70 games. The Mets held it a little more then half that somewhere around 40.
Talk is cheap. If the Mets were so great and “deserved” to be there, then they would be.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
ESPN just showed the 4 controversial calls in the series. 3 of the 4 calls went in the Rays favor and the entire panel said they should have gone the way of the Phils. The one that did go the Phils way (the Hamels pick off/balk call), was questionable but they all agreed the correct call was made.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
Isn’t the game nine innings. How can you talk about eight innings, its stupid they couln’t close out games.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Nepa, I saw that discussion, also. They seemed sympathetic to the Phils with those calls.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
SJ Mike I just was talking about the umpires out of position on the call at first. Every one said he was not in proper position to make the call. He was behind the play. Don M said he was in proper position just blew call .Is it me or was the ump behind the play and not in a position to make the call.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
Just checked out the lineups on phils.com, phils lineup same while rays lineup same except in RF is Ben Zobrist. Only phils batter with track record against andy sonnanstine is stairs who has a homer off him. Eagles beat atlanta 27-14 in nfl. Great sports weekend in Philly. Also two concerts. Funny how flyers yesterday won in ot by 1 goal and phillies also got late magic and won by 1 run. I think Blanton’s line looks like this: 6.2IP, 5h, 2r(all earned), 3bb, 6ks, 0hrs. Bullpen shall close it out. So far this series and a lot of phils and rays postseason games, whoever scores first wins. I think Blanton might have a tough time in 1st two innings but we can’t let them score first. We need to score early and often. Go Phillies!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
C’mon Joe set this up for Cole to produce a performance for the ages tomorrow night.
Phillies to win 4 – 1 with Cole going 5 -0 in the post season.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
mikemike, I think it was both not being out of position and also relying too heavily on listening for a sound.
What was bizarre to me is that the umpire was give or take 5 or 6 feet in from the foul line facing Howard’s back. Usually the umps are hanging out on the line or in foul territory with nobody on base.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
I feel good about Fat Joe tonight. He’s brought his game face this postseason, and I think tonight will be no different. Looking forward to tonight’s game, with the prospects of Hamels on the mound tomorrow night. We can, and will, get to little Andy tonight.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
mikemike, Hallion was out of position, so he couldn’t see when Howard caught the ball. With hindsight being 20/20 and all, he should have placed himself in better position, or Howard should have reached out for the ball rather than waiting for it to come to him. Either way I’m sure Hallion would have made the correct call. In the end, though, it didn’t make a difference, as we still won.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
well, it’s not just my mets fan roomate. All of my roomates are rooting against the phils. SOme want to annoy me, others are Sox fans (well one is a yanks fan) who want to justifiy their losing by seeing the rays win, so they’ll feel like they at least their team lost to the best one.
I saw this on wikipedia:
On July 2, 2008, while speaking with Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio, Buck said that he is tired of baseball and doesn’t enjoy calling the games like he used to. [10] Two days later, Buck stated that he’d been “joking” to Cowherd but added that he still believes the games take too long to play
this might explain why he doesn’t seem to be enthusiastic about the Phils, or anything in general. If so, he outta step aside and let someone else call the games.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
Samiam, for some reason, a bunch of people I know here in South Jersey that I went to college with, that are all from South Jersey, like to root against the Phils and Eagles just to annoy people. They seem to get off on it.
Go figure, one of which is not only a Mets fan, but a Cowboys fan. Why is totally beyond me, because he lives closer to Philly then I do!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
I love how the term ‘fat joe’ gets dropped on here as easily as ‘flyin hawaiian’ and ‘K-How’
October 26th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
The one I love for hims Kentucky Joe or maybe I’ll throw out a new one in Boomer Jnr.
October 26th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
^one nickname that’s probably going to come into play after the series is Madson loosing his name in preference of ‘the Boras client’.
October 26th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
Rob, I can’t even remember where “Fat Joe” came from, but it sure stuck. When I call him “Fat Joe”, I do so with the utmost love and respect, BTW.
October 26th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
We love our Fat Joe like the Rays love whatever they add on to Garza’s name, personally I like Twat Garza.
October 26th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Its all good. And field house is the spot. Its a real great place at any time day or night to catch a game or sit down and chill.
October 26th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
Looks like Crazy Joe Maddon is going with Zobrist instead of Gross in RF again tonight. I don’t get it, but whatever…knowing that ol’ kook, he may start 9 pitchers tonight, or may do everything in reverse – catchers pitch, pitchers catch, 1b plays 3rd, SS plays 2nd, RF plays LF, etc.
October 26th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
How awesome! Thome’s in the house!
October 26th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Lineup is official. Also, I changed that homer stat. My bad. Long day.
October 26th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
Apparently Liberathal is in the stadium also.
October 26th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
Madson is a Boras client?
See ya Ryan. Get a new agent and we’ll talk.
October 26th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
The rumor I heard was Madson’s arb raise going up to $3m so I think holding onto Durbin will be tough but then again Flash will be off the books and Eyre will probs re-sign at costs.
October 26th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Terry Bradshaw wearing a Tampa Bay hat? Boo.
October 26th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
NJ – I think you may have heard that here from Tim, he mentioned that Madson may be getting around 3M.
October 26th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
Enough with the Santa Claus BS!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
I’m an Eagles fan too, but sheesh, the Santa thing happened with the Eagles, not the Phillies.
Said it before and I’ll say it again, more myth then fact.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
Terry Bradshaw is useless. Couldn’t even remember that the University of Arizona are the “Wildcats”… who had a fantastic series, including a bench-clearing bruhaha against Georgia last February.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
Read it in an inquirer article though your right the number was the one Tim thought. $4m seems to be the market value for a SU guy in FA so $3m in arb sounds about right.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
lets go Phillies!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
It’s a shame the Sox didn’t make the series so the fans could renew the battery throwing.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
All I can say is…with the extra coin that this team has gotten from a WS appearance, and with what the club has done, the owners better be willing to expand the budget from around $100 mil to $125 to ensure we can retain key pieces and still go out to get a couple of improvements. They better not try to get by on the cheap, but I have faith that they’ll recognize this.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
OMG This woman is horrible….
October 26th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
Where the f*ck is Taylor Swift when you need her? Patty needs to take a break…
October 26th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
She’s THIS close to getting booed
October 26th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
wow Patty Label sounds like an OAP being strangled whilst being forced to sing the national anthem…
October 26th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
Who is singing tomorrow night?
October 26th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
This is like Family Guy skit funny!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
Atrocious. Why can’t they just sing the damn song instead of trying to re-invent it? It doesn’t need re-inventing. Just sing it for the love of Carlos Ruiz.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Wow, that was god awful.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Should be Will Smith or at least Tim McGraw
October 26th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Daryl Hall of Hall and Oates is singing it tomorrow night according to MLB.com
October 26th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Is anyone else watching the international feed with O’Brien and Sutcliffe?
October 26th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Haha – Hopefully that’s true about Daryl Hall, because this is great entertainment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kO5qwNG4U18

October 26th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
My brother and I had an over under bet on patty. The line was 1.39, I lost
October 26th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
Good evening everyone. That was, until the national anthem. I hope that doesn’t affect the Phillies! No glass in a ten mile radius was safe after that one. Although Maddon’s glasses are still intact.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
What is with Joe Maddon’s bizarre crease in Joe Maddon’s hat?
October 26th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
Rob, I feel your pain.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
As
interestinggod-awful as that rendition of the national anthem was, it was nowhere near the level of Uber-Gay that occurred in Tampa in Game 1.October 26th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
Nice to hear Hallion is behind the plate. Maybe he’ll pay us back a little for last night’s snafu at 1st.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Is that fog or leftover smoke from the fireworks?
October 26th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Looks like firework smoke…..
October 26th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Dave, that is very true. We could have had Milli Vanilli or New Kids if we wanted to really give them a run for their money.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
I love how the smoke has no affect at all on the green advertisement screen at the backstop.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
you guys are nuts, patti was great and got an amazing reaction. really nice touch with the fireworks perfectly synced up with her vocals.
loud first out, but i’ll take it! go phillies!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Yeah, that smoke is making the green screen ads just pop out in such an unnatural way.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Ut o…. may be a long game.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Blanton’s going to need to avoid those kind of ABs
October 26th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
Oh I love Hallions strike three calls. RAHHH!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
Wow, Hallion had one of the most spastic ring up strike out calls I have ever seen.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
And get lots of those ones!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
woah, this ump is going to hurt himself if he keeps calling Ks like that all night!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
That was a delightfully quick top.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
solid inning by Blanton
October 26th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
1 2 3. good start joe!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
Very nice first. Let’s get the bats going!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
And it’s always a nice touch when Fox cuts Joe Buck off and goes to commercial.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
Thank you, Fox, for doing what we’ve wanted to do this whole postseason…
Cut off Joe Buck mid sentence.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
Christopher, I’ve heard the national anthem at close to 200 sporting events this year. I’ve heard good, bad and ugly. Patti’s version fell somewhere in the middle but it really fired up the crowd.
Call it a push….
October 26th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
HArry K with the “bait” joke again…. LOVE IT!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
Joe Buck, all you do all day is talk to yourself…..
October 26th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
“Call it a push….”
Brings new meaning to home field advantage.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
Blanton looks sharp so far. I wonder when the umps will miss a call against us tonight? I set the over under at the 5th inning.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
That’s a good start!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
JIMMY!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
Nice start!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
There we go, J-Roll. Now a nice double by Werth here would be sweet!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
ah yes, the RISP begins early, lol
October 26th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
Good move by the ball girl getting the hell out of the way there…
Let’s go Shaggy!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Hey, I have a really neat concept, let’s hammer this kid in the first inning and put this away early. Who’s with me?
October 26th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
At least it was a productive out.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
k Werth, that’s good
October 26th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Nice hustle by J-Roll there. Now get him in!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Holy crap a productive out!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Productive outs.. That’s new! Blanton’s just no BS out there, throw strikes and get off the mound fast.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Matty, that works for me. Count me in.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
come up with a cheap run, give me a break
October 26th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Matty, lets treat him like a Tampa stripper. Bang him hard and leave him by the side of the road…..
October 26th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
NJ, are you kidding me? joe’s got dinner waiting in the clubhouse. Of course he’s working quickly!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Swing 3-0. I dare you, Chase.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Jamie, that scores the biggest laugh so far for me today.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
big bomb by Howard would be so sweet right now. i know i’m asking for too much, but “why can’t us?”
October 26th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
isn’t a HR a hit too?
October 26th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
That was SOOOOOO lucky
October 26th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
wow, lucky
October 26th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Wow, thats one dumb pitcher…..
October 26th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Holy shit did we FINALLY get a break?
October 26th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
give us that call to make up for blowing Moyer’s out last night dammit!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
The circus is in town
October 26th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
hahahahahahahahahahaha
karmas a bitch from last night with moyers dive
October 26th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
I thought Rollins got tagged but he’s safe! That was cool.
There’s the gift call!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Whew! We got one there! Some payback for last night’s terrible call?
October 26th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
2 WORDS: PAYBACK BITCHES!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
hmm, seems like the best time for Burrell to get his first World Series hit
October 26th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Tim Welke strikes again….just this time it went our favor.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Very bad from Howard though, 1 HR, 1 hit and one cheap hit doesn’t get it done for a guy of his calibre.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Depends on whether we score.
Is tonight “Pat the Bat” or “Pat the GIDP”?
October 26th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
I like getting breaks, but not at the expense of the integrity of the game
October 26th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Feels like Burrell’s going to do something big tonight. Just throwing that out there.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Dave do you have a story about a Tampa stripper you would like to share with the rest of the class?
October 26th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Did Buck just say “and the call goes against the Rays again?”
Um…correct me if I’m wrong, but we’ve been the ones getting the shaft, not them!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Matty,
Nope but Ive driven past enough strip clubs off of U.S. 19 from St Pete to Clearwater before….
October 26th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
I agree Joe. I get just as annoyed when a call is wrong but is favorable as I would if it was unfavorable. Just get the damn calls right.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
should’ve swung at that 3-0 pitch dammit
October 26th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
well at least his first World Series RBI, yea Burrell
October 26th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Okay, Pat the RBI it is….
October 26th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
ok, patience paid off there, woo!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
The thing that sucks about the call that went our way tonight is the fact that there has been so many botched calls this series that you know they are just bound to creep back up again.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
When does the guy who gets shot out of a cannon come out?
October 26th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Probably see Edwin Jackson start to warm in the bullpen for Tampa if this goes any worse for them.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
dammit Vic
October 26th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
That didnt work.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
hmm we lack the skill of having a sac fly ever happen
October 26th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Uh, Matty, I was wondering the same thing, sorta creeped me out.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
seriously, just one nice hit, just one…
October 26th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
bad feeling that Feliz won’t deliver here
October 26th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
Feliz is the king of LOB
October 26th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
If nothing else, it should get Tampa frustrated enough.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
To be honest Georgie I just wanted to hear a stripper tale.
Why in the blue hell did Feliz swing at that? Why? What the hell is the matter with this team?
October 26th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
….And he doesnt
October 26th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Keeeeeee-rist.
Again. Left Bases Loaded. Again.
I swear Ive been singing that refrain ever since i started watchign this team, many years ago…..
October 26th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Joe Buck Sux….has he nothing god to say bout the Phils?
October 26th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
There was our sac fly. Just one out too early. Ugh…
I said it last night, and I’ll say it again. A lot of good looks at Sonnanstine, and he can DEFINITELY be hit. We made him throw 26 pitches, and I think both will be in our favor.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Sorry Georgie, just going with what seems to be entry level opportunities for Tampa girls without a high-school education.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Does anyone know anything about the Phillies vs. Rays tug of war for people named Phil and people named Ray? I’m a big dude and want to do a tug of war. I heard 610 is sponsoring it.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
I have to be honest, though…I’d rather have Dobbs in the line-up tonight against Sonnanstine than Feliz. He hasn’t impressed me much this postseason, other than I like his defense better than Dobbs.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
Jamie, Dobbs didnt do spit in Game 2. I’ll take my chances with Pedro and have Dobbs off the bench.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
McCarver just said that Sonnanstine made good pitches to get out of the inning. Ummm, did anyone else see any good pitches or just stupid hitting?
October 26th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
These Rays look frustrated, especially after that first inning. Longoria in particular.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Dave, I realize that…he didn’t look right at all. I wondered if he was hurt or sick, but I think maybe he had a hard time picking up the ball off the batter’s eye. He hits righties well, though.
On another note, Fat Joe is just NASTY tonight, no?!
October 26th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Haha Navarro trying to bunt.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Fat joe is dealing
October 26th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Jamie… I havent seen much of Fat Joe pitching all year, but he looks good so far.
If we can get 3/6 out of him, we’re fine.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Fat Joe is dealing… I’m surprised Joe Buck hasn’t questioned the substance on the brim of his hat yet.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Yeah, Fat Joe is dealing alright. Only 28 pitches through two, as opposed to little Andy’s 26 after one. If he can keep his pitch count at a decent level, he’ll be good for 7 for sure, with a Mad Dog 8th.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
I christen thee Phat Joe from now on….
October 26th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
It’s just so weird watching Blanton pitch though. He looks like if he wound his arm up he could throw it through the backstop.
One of those guys who had a strange route getting to the World Series, starting the first game of the season in all of baseball, in Japan, against Boston. Went 5 1/3, gave up 3 runs, and got a no-decision. March 25th.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
the substance is probably just chicken grease. He forgot to wipe his fingers between innings. How about a leadoff double by Chooch and a Fat Joe sac bunt?
October 26th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
I wonder how hard it’ll be to get MLB network next year. Probably have to purchase some large sports packages for 60 bucks a month.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
If you have Directv MLB Network will be in the same channel range as the NFL and NHL network’s, it won’t be on the sports-pack tier.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
Jimmy is hitting
October 26th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
J-Roll is stinging it
October 26th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
I have Time Warner Cable. Probably will be more complicated. But we’ll see. It’s not something I’d HAVE to have. Thinking about purchasing EI next year maybe.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
oh for the love of god why do they continue to try and pull everything?
October 26th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
I’m sure Dish Network will carry it like NFL Network. Hopefully it’s just part of the normal premium package.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
I’m stuck on Charter cable for the moment. Bastards didn’t even carry the Free Preview of NHL’s Center Ice.
Somehow i dont forsee an easy time of getting to see the MLB network more than say Jason Werth actually doing something productive with runners on.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Matty, Chooch and Werth both went oppo field there. What are you referring to?
October 26th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
So what is CSN Philly like? Am I missing anything by not having it? Directv finally got the Phils in HD this year, but it is game-only.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Is Tampa just not that good at hitting pitches that aren’t fastballs?
October 26th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Apparently at launch, MLB Network will be broadcast into 50 million homes. Sounds like too much if it were going to be on a sports tier.
This summer I had a free preview of Extra Innings which was very interesting. I was annoyed on the Friday of that week, though. Everything was working fine at 11:30 AM, there was a Mets game starting at Noon, and they shut off the preview before the game started.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Werth keeps trying to golf balls that are down in the zone and either flying out or striking out.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Werth looked like he was trying to pull the ball and pull off of it. I could b wrong, but I just rewound it agains, and that’s what I saw. Ruiz could date my wife right now the way he is hitting, I am not going to complain about him at all. Howard is another one of the pull bandits, along with Burrell.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Yeah, I see what you’re saying Matty. Remember when Howard, Burrell, and Werth used to line gappers to opposite field? Oh, those were the days. I wish I could see some of that again sometime in the near future…preferably in the next day or two.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Jamie, I’ll take that starting with this inning…..
October 26th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
Kick save
October 26th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
“It just took a bad hop” Didn’t look like a bad hop to me.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
The Rays aren’t as good on a real surface and they say we have the home field advantage…
October 26th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
alright Howard
October 26th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
here’s pat’s chance to redeem himself for a terrible performance at the plate so far… man or machine?
October 26th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
I thought the radio guys might not mention the RISP thing, but it did come up.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
The Rays are only 38-35 in the regular season when playing on grass.
Phillies are 92-70 when on Grass.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
I guess too used to fielding balls on weird turf.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Why do pitchers even check Ryan when he’s at 1st, even with a lead he’s out on anything other than a knuckleball if he runs.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Burrell = Sucks
October 26th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
no sac fly
October 26th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
burrell
October 26th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
do we call him Pat the Pop-Up King now?
October 26th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Ugh. Got under it just a little bit too much.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
PLEASE Shane
October 26th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Come on Shane, just get a fly ball.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
we have to take advantage of this guy.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
A home run would be nice….
October 26th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
“Remember when Howard, Burrell, and Werth used to line gappers to opposite field? ” You mean June right? lol.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
surprised we haven’t tried a squeeze when vic’s been at the plate with a man on 3rd.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
Keeeee-rist.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
Does anyone else think the World Series has been getting worse and worse… Home-field advantage decided by the all star game, the umpires blow calls that need to be made, the announcers have no idea what they’re talking about, players not being introduced… If the Phillies weren’t in it, it’d be unwatchable. It’s horrible.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
Oh for the love of hell….
October 26th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
we will never have a sac fly?
October 26th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
No words for it. Although Larry Anderson just tested “pathetic”.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
Joe Buck is sooooo concerned with the 0 fer ?? counts on Phils…are there any other stats….
October 26th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
Then Feliz swings at that, 4 feet in front of the plate…
October 26th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
Oh my God. I can’t handle much more of this squandering. Feliz needs to redeem himself…AND DOES! PETE HAPPY!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
Pedro!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
I didn’t think it would be Pedro Feliz to break the spell!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
a RISP hit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yea Feliz!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Thank you Señor Out. Finally a clutch hit.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Well about damm time someone gets a hit to knock in a run.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Finally
October 26th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
that was more relief than enjoyment
October 26th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Nice job, Feliz!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
He can keep the creepy beard now.
So yeah, if Chooch could go yard here, that would be great….
October 26th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
at the very least it turns the lineup over…
October 26th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Blanton grand slam?
October 26th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
I can’t remember an AB in this series where cooch hasn’t made decent contact.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Lee, add to that the national advertisements and the broadcast exclusivity from ESPN Radio, where only the flagship radio stations can broadcast the game using their team’s radio announcers, with all of the affiliates only allowed to use the ESPN Radio feed…
It doesn’t help that it’s been a long time since there’s been a classic World Series for the ages. It’s almost like an afterthought now. Most of the best playoff games take place before the World Series.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
nvm lol
October 26th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Okay, we know we’ve been struggling with RISP and LOB, but Joe Buck makes the comment as it’s going to commercial that the Phillies have stranded 8 already, and they strand 3 more here…well, it was the pitcher up, and did any of us actually think Blanton was going to drive someone in? So there’s 3 LOB that really don’t count as far as I’m concerned.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
The 01 Series has been the last good one since 97 and/or 93 in terms of dramatics.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Through 3 IP:
Blanton: 2 H / 0 BB / 4 K’s / 42 pitches
Sonnanstine: 5 H / 2 BB / 1 K / 69 pitches
He won’t be lasting long, it doesn’t look like.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Well said, Jamie…
October 26th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Blanton’s as on as any pitcher tonight so far.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Yeah, I’m getting really sick of hearing about the RISP problem. You have to wonder, how much do the Rays suck iif they’re done in the series in spite of that? Huh, Joe Buck?
October 26th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Nice thing about the World Series is not having that off-day between Games 4 and 5, so getting to the Tampa bullpen early tonight will help tomorrow.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
I’m proud to say I was one of the ones who stuck up for Gillick at the trade deadline when he traded for Joe. Not that I wouldn’t have wanted CC or Harden, but we got a much better deal in the long run, I think.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Well, to be fair guys, Buck and McCarver have been talking nonstop about Pena and Longoria’s struggles also.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
We know the Phils aren’t going to get much better with RISP, it’s not like it’s a new thing but somehow these guys just manage to not play well a lot of the time and win.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
lil’ Eva needs the heater on?
This is baseball! What kinda p*ssy is he?
October 26th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
blah blah
October 26th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
“The lead is cut in half!” Horray! You get a sticker, Joe Buck.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Top of the order. Let’s get that one back.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
$hiite!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
I have to admit, as a baseball fan. I like Carl Crawford. He’s a damned good player.
Go Phils!
Blanton is looking good. I expected nothing less tonight.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
Jimmy, 3-3
October 26th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
ROLLINS ON FIRE!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
All of Tampa’s players are great players. It’s hard to dislike them as a general baseball fan.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
or 2-3
October 26th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
i really didn’t think that was an error at all
October 26th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
Shoulda been a hit….
October 26th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
Groty, you said it. One of those nice stories about Tampa Bay getting to the World Series. Crawford has been a fantastic player for them for so long. Him and Baldelli – a couple of the longest tenured players for Tampa, and after those bad years they get to be on a good team finally.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
so, I go to make something to eat and Crawford knocks one out, can you say “hunger strike”?
October 26th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
Ok Utley, 2 on, no out. Rip a vintage gapper.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Yeah, although I hope they all have career slumps during this series, I really like this young team. I would be rooting for them if it weren’t us in the WS against them. They have potential for years if they can avoid becoming another Marlins organization.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
SJ, Garza and Gomes are very hateable. Trust me on this.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
It’s pretty obvious throughout this series that the Phils hitters are better against new pitchers than the new pitchers are against them. Let’s hope a new Rays bullpen face comes out tonight and we put up a crooked one on him.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
Any of you guys have kids? Are you letting them stay up to watch? I sent my 10-year-old to bed, and worry that I might be a bad dad.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
Just a hit, all i want. Just one hit right here…
October 26th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
cant we get some runners over?!??!?!?!!!?!??!1
October 26th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
this is ugly.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
seriously utley?
October 26th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
No one should stay up to watch this offensive futility
October 26th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
let’s knock some in guys. please!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Joe, speaking as one who was a 5 year old who wasnt allowed to watch the 80 series and an 8 year old who got screwed out of tickets to the 83 series, They wont forget it.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
Joe my 7 year old is in bed, but he has the game on the radio.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
My kid’s only 2 1/2, so she is more concerned with Finding Nemo than the Phils. I’ll work on her in a couple of years.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
how about a 3 run shot, howard?
October 26th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
YEEESSSSS!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
HOWARD!!!!!!!!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
YYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
HE DID IT!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
HOWARD GOES DEEP!!!!!!! Opposite field too…..
October 26th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
danny, there you go.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
HELL YEAH BIG MAN! Weren’t we just talking about oppo field strokes just a bit ago?
October 26th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Howard hitting an opposite field DONG. That was awesome!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
HOW”S That for your RISP Stat, Joe???
October 26th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
That was better than sex
October 26th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Seriously..is there anything wrong with my waving my rally towel in my living room??
October 26th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Oppo Poppo!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
love how joe buck says “and this one carries out…”
F U JOE BUCK YOU HOMER FROM FLORIDA!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
And there is Howard’s coming arb raise justified, I’m critical of the guy but there’s his moneyball.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
I’m part Psychic Jamie, ask anyone who was in here for Game 4 of the Dodgers series, lol
October 26th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
what a HR by Howard
October 26th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
I know Sal… Says:
Seriously..is there anything wrong with my waving my rally towel in my living room??
NOPE, I am Too!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
I’m seriously amazed how Howard gets such opposite field power.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
A bomb just got dropped in south philly
October 26th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Matty, you must be doing it wrong..try going the other way.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
I have my hat on and was standing and clapping. Nothing wrong with cheering!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Burrells such a buzz kill after howard hits a home run
October 26th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
if ryan stays hot this series is over.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
pat burrell looks like a special needs kids out there. is he drunk?
October 26th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Can I just make my own rally towel with a dirty napkin?
October 26th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
You wave that towel Joel!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Good call there Danny….
October 26th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Rollins, Utley, and Howard have been getting hits. So big.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
How many LOB did they do that inning, Joe? I missed it…
October 26th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
You guys must be feeling great right now. Phillies up 2 games to 1, up 5-1 in this game with Blanton pitching well, and Hamels pitching tomorrow.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
negatives quickly- burrell and vic struggling
positives: blanton, howard, rollins, chase-not
October 26th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
Matty, I remember LCS Game 4. You were the man there! How about a few more predictions…
October 26th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
Still a lot of baseball to be played. Still gotta continue taking care of business.
Kind of funny that Shane has been miked up the whole series, we hear him calling everyone off.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
lol ump definitely blew those 2 strikes, he shoulda been on first with a BB
October 26th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
The thing that I’m really enjoying tonight is even most of Blanton’s balls still have good bite to them,
Also Vic’s a general out there, fun to watch him take control.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
And Sonnanstine pitched his way out of another inning.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
And Sonnanstine pitched his way out of another inning.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
And Sonnanstine pitched his way out of another inning. Only 3 runs scored….
October 26th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
I am certainly feeling good. I felt good about Joe being on the mound tonight anyways, but he’s just so relaxed up there and seems to just get down to business. The offense has come alive, but I’ll take more runs…don’t get me wrong.
If we can hold this lead, which I have every faith we will, I have a strong belief that Cole will bring it home for us tomorrow night. I feel it…this is our year. Phuck the Cubs.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
its k Blanton
October 26th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
For the love of…. can we get ONE INNING where we score and dont let the Rays score the next inning?
October 26th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
You can live with those solo shots when your not putting guys on base with walks and cheap hits, still great from Blanton.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Joe’s thrown 69 pitches through 5. He will give us 7 strong tonight to get to Madson.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Yeah well I’ll start feeling better when the Harry Kalas says we win….
October 26th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Interesting though about Cliff Floyd being injured. I was wondering why we haven’t seen much of him.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
That is a good idea Tampa, get the HP ump pissed at you. I am sure Edwin Jackson is thrilled
October 26th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
C’mon, run someone…..
October 26th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
this is a good time to be a phillies fan! maybe the best time.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
WOOOOWWW
October 26th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
BLANTON!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
HOLY SHIT! Did Blanton just hit a homerun!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:56 pm

October 26th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
WOW!!! Blanton runs into one!!! How about that! Fat Joe!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Blanton, Holy Shit!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
HOLY S!!!!!!!! FAT JOE CAN HIT!!!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
No Phucking Way!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Now that’s how you become a Philly hero period
October 26th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
HOLY SHIT
October 26th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
He was using Myers’ bat.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
That was a hell of a pitch he knocked out
October 26th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Blood in the water time for real now…
October 26th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Hopefully he can settle down and pitch another solid inning or two here.
October 26th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Joe. Fucking. Blanton.
[/willcurseonce]
October 26th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
THUD!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Matt Stairs… Carlos Ruiz… now Joe Blanton… the Phillies Sports Lore book is running out of pages!
October 26th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
I’m still in shock. Did Joe Blanton really just hit a homerun?
October 26th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Oh, and Tim, you can quote my last post as your Headline after the game. Unbelievable!!! I am loving my Phils and the Rays are great team too!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Does anybody else find the big Albino from the Sharp commercials creepy? I thought they were trying to sell a product.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Call me crazy but I had an inside joke with a friend and said Fat Joe was gonna hit a home run.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Unbelievable – that is unreal!!! Joe Blanton!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:01 pm
Keith Says:
October 26th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Blanton grand slam?
hehe lol, close enough
October 26th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
“Big Chance for the Rays” ……????
And what game are you watching, Joe Buck? I’m watching Fat Joe take a page out of Jamie Moyer’s book: “How to get signed by your favorite team and pitch in the World Series”
October 26th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
It looks like we’ll have Jeff Kellog tomorrow night behind the plate. Very favorable for Hamels, I think.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
As long as it is not Welke behind the plate. We always seem to pitch bad games when it is Welke.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Anyone else want to send a group Thank You card to Billy Beane?
October 26th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
… and I gotta work a F’ing debate tomorrow night.
Told my boss I’m using a long lens from the bar area and watching King Cole pitch…
October 26th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Dave, you in video also?
October 26th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
this entire game feels surreal. joe “the big bat” blanton is going to have to start pinch hitting after this game.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
walks are not good…not now…
but hopefully Longoria will be overaggressive…
October 26th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Strike Eva’s ass out Joe!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
So strange. Firefox stopped loading the comments page. Switched to google chrome and it’s fine.
I’m still in shock over that shot. That was awesome. Shows how crazy things tend to happen in the postseason. Unlikely guys come up big and pitchers suddenly know how to hit!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
hate to Jinx it but I have to plan ahead if they win tonight and tomorrow any idea if the parade will be the tuesday or wednesday, again not assuming just wondering so I can plan
October 26th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
SEE YA Longaoria!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
I live in Orlando and I was at game 2 and all folks talked about was how weak Moyer and Blanton were.
This is awesome.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
yikes, that’s not so good
October 26th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
rk, stop jinxing it! hahah
October 26th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
Shut the F*ck up Joe Buck!!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
It would have been awesome if they did the first-home-run-ignore in the dugout, in the World Series, to Blanton.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
Can we please bring in Romero here?
October 26th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
2 runners on will quickly help you realize how early and still in reach this game is for the Rays.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
Danny, Orlando fans have nothing to root for. They dont even go see the Magic.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
lucky call
October 26th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
BAM!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
solid 6 for Blanton
October 26th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
YES FAT JOE!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
YESSS!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
I am really sick of seeing this Chevy Chase DirectTV commercial.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
Danny, hard not to bring it up when Blanton hits a HR
Lets go Phils
October 26th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
After tonight, how many heroes will we have up till this point in the playoffs and series!?!?! Amazing!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
McCarver…”remember, CBP’s dimensions are smaller than Tropicana Field.”
Really?
CBP: 329 Left / 374 Left Ctr / 401 Center / 369 Right Ctr / 330 Right
Trop: 315 Left / 370 Left Ctr / 404 Center / 370 Right Ctr / 322 Right
Umm, I wasn’t a math major in college, but these dimensions are pretty close to one another, right? And CBP is actually deeper down the lines?
October 26th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
You could see that Werth coming a mile away. He was all over that fastball.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Jamie, there is so much propaganda about the Bank. It’s barely a hitter’s park anyway. People are lazy.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
As we’ve learned with anything when it comes to Philly in the national eye. The myth is a sexier story then what the truth is.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Someone should refer these announcers to:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/parkfactor
The Bank slightly favors hitters.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
SJ Mike, I’d make a Christy Brinkley Joke but, uh, i seemed to have offended Georgie earlier tonight so, uh, yeah…..
October 26th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
I will always remember what Buck said when Howard’s shot went out:
“…and Howard’s hit will carry out…”
October 26th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Dave, I’m confused by the Christie Brinkley joke, but okey dokey. Don’t want to go offending Georgie.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Man, Utley really needs a good 4 months of doing nothing baseball related.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
SJ Mike, I meant about the direct TV commercials.
Boy did The Who look awful….
October 26th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
ump sure got excited about calling that strikeout
October 26th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Can we pinch hit Matt Stairs for Burrell? Is that okay with everyone?
October 26th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
danny, I brought up the park factor earlier today. I think we are #11.
On another note, apparently Maddon complained about the “suspicious substance” on Fat Joe’s hat earlier in the game to Hallion. The link is on the Phillies official page.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
If I am Pat’s agent I pray for a home run here….
October 26th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Jamie Moyer’s wife needs to shut her mouth…. lol
October 26th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Moyer pitched a gem with the stomach flu?!!?
That will go down in Philly legend.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
We’re 15th in park factor
October 26th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
poor Burrell
October 26th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
I will not miss Pat Burrell. I wish I would, but I won’t.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
again burrell comes up short. he may very well go through this whole series without a hit.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
I think Pat Burrells agent is the only one worried, he’ll take a deal to stay if the FO don’t lowball him.
Funny the fans booing him.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Jamie, i cant find the link….
October 26th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Dave – http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20081026&content_id=3646145&vkey=news_phi&fext=.jsp&c_id=phi
October 26th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
What’s Blanton’s highest pitch count this year? He’s at 95 now.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
Pat will be replaced here with Bruntlett I’m thinking.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
Doesn’t Bruntlett out there just remind how how badly we fleeced Houston in that trade…
October 26th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
shit, lead off walk.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Dave, strange…it was there earlier but I see they took it down. I’ll try to find it again.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
NJ (Go Joe Bombton!) -
I don’t know. Houston got Michael Bourn out of the deal.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Thanks NEPA.
Maddon trying anything at this point.
Besides, aren’t we the underdogs here?
October 26th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
BA HR RBI OBP SLG
.229 5 29 .288 .300
October 26th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
Dave, everyone in Florida picked the Rays in 6. I was just like “Ya’ll don’t even know about these Phillies. They’re not going to be denied.”
October 26th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
i don’t like the fact that Durbin is in right now
October 26th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
I haven’t felt confident in Durbin in quite some time.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
You guys some real jerks
October 26th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
jeez, is there anybody besides Durbin?? I’m nervous with him…
October 26th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Durbin’s gonna take care of business.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
Durbin was effective until late July, since then he’s been a white-knuckle ride…
October 26th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
Durbin’s only on a 1 year deal right? I can’t see him coming back next year.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
short leash for durbin, good
October 26th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Just kidding
October 26th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Damn Durbin…he hasn’t been right since August.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Yeah, I was a big Durbin fan earlier in the year, but he’s faltered lately. I don’t know if his arm is tired or what, but I think he’s a good guy and all. I’d just rather have Eyre up in this situation.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Danny, this is why i left Orlando.
They dunno squat about sports…. beyond those British Soccer Bars on I-Drive.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
durbin got an out. eyre will keep it going. you guys get so nervous about our bullpen when it’s the strongest part of our team, i never get it.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
Nice catch Bruntlett!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
Jesus, Bruntlett caught that underhand for some odd reason.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
No way Burrell makes that catch. Charlie’s subs are even working tonight!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
I dont care – as long as he caught it. 7 outs to go…
October 26th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
I dont care – as long as he caught it. 7 outs to go!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Cmon maddog!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Pat Burrell takes 3-1 pitches.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
YEAH MADSON!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
3-2 NASTY changeup.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
yea Madson!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
Madson again is the man!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
MADSON = MONEY!!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
Mad Dog to the rescue!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
The Rays have stranded 6???? OH, so sorry Rays… so, so, so sowwy.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
…. I suppose getting Lauren Hart to sing “God Bless America” would be too much to ask for….
October 26th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
Is this guy who’s singing serious?
October 26th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
All the God Bless America’s have been from the military choruses.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Now THAT’s better than Patty Labelle. Any day.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
danny, that was a lot better than last night
October 26th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
SJ Mike, i understand that but right now I want all the home-town mojo and magic on our side.
… Of course it didnt work against tampa in 2004…..
October 26th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Crowd was good for that one at least, they made him sound better with their background version.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
what’s the score right now? im in LA without a tv around me
October 26th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
I just went over to check MLB Gameday. Interesting how during the season they had in game Video highlights being posted, but now with the playoffs on Fox, that feature gets disabled.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
6-2 Phillies bottom 7th, 1 out, none on
October 26th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
nice boot EVA
October 26th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
LOL Poor Longoria.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
AC, that’s not surprising. I hate MLB. They really don’t care about customer satisfaction. If they could make more money by not allowing anybody to watch the games, they would.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
No way Pena beat Feliz on that play.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
Im fine with that happening. Lets get this game over with.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
What kind of shit call was THAT?!?! These guys just want to get the game over with, apparently.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
i dont think his foot was on the bag there but that might have been the best catch i’ve ever seen. i gotta give it to him
October 26th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
I guess we have a Dobbs/J-Roll/Werth lineup to look forward to in the bottom of the 8th for any necessary insurance.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
If anybody from TB bitches about the non call on Rollins getting back the 3rd base, we’ll just point to this botched call at first. By my count, Umps are jobbing the Phils by 4 to 1 at this point in the series. Such BS.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Bye Bye Pena! You can catch real nice at 1st base, but you can’t hit a lick (so far)…
October 26th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
5 to go.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Bye Bye EVA!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
YOUR DAMN RIGHT ANOTHER STRIKE OUT JOE BUCK!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
according to that playback, Feliz was definitely out. oh well, let’s forget about it, shut this game down, and get on to game 5!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
What a changeup. Madson is straight filthy.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
The man has ice in his veins.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Just leave Madson in to pitch the ninth.. haha
October 26th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
AC, that replay did show Pena made a nice catch and had his foot on the bag, so I’ll give that one to him. We are getting “jobbed” though.
Surprise, surprise, FOX is giving the Phils scouting department some credit for scouting these hitters. There’s a shocker.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
3 outs to go!
October 26th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
That was quick!
October 26th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
3 outs to go! Bring on Lidge…
October 26th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
This is really bizarre to take in. One of my friends texted me saying “It’s like watching some other city’s team.”
I’m so not used to this.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
I’m greedy. Let’s get some more first.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
SJ, I know what you are saying. I can’t believe it’s actually US this close to the ring. So many years, so many crushed hopes and dreams, and it’s looking more and more like we may actually do it. Don’t pinch me yet, though.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
I like Stairs here.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Um…that wasn’t Gillick. Was it? It didn’t look like him for some reason.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
another hit for Jimmy
October 26th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
anybody wish that went over just so it could’ve hit that one guy in the balls?
October 26th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
Man, this anticipation just kills me. It’s going to be a long 20 some hours until tomorrow night’s game.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
nice Werth
October 26th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
HELLO BABY!
October 26th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
The waiting will be awful…. but Werth’s HR helps!
October 26th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Has anybody on this team not contributed? Seriously.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
YYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!! WERTH making up for some of those bonehead base running plays!
October 26th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
UNBELIEVABLE I’m having a hard time believing this is the Phillies. This shit doesn’t happen.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Hello Jason!
So…Happ in the ninth?
October 26th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Zoinks!!!! (I truly hope someone else thinks Werth looks like Shaggy from Scooby-Doo)
October 26th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Great call by Franske and LA…
October 26th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Even Burrell has a RBI-walk. Thats a contribution.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Jamie, I assume you’ll be uploading that for us tomorrow?
October 26th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
the only person that hasn’t come up big has been Burrell, unless you want to count that walk in the first inning
October 26th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
The drive to work tomorrow will be amazing. The local sports guy I listen to in Orlando trashed the Phils before the series. With the Bucs losing too, I might just sit in my car for an extra 20 minutes.
Yes. It’s finally time for a title.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
Matty, he does. And NEPA’s right…this is so bizzare…this shit just doesn’t happen to us.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
Ok guys…save some offense for tomorrow night now! Ashburn tonight – Blanton? or maybe THE ENTIRE TEAM SHOULD GET IT, b/c almost everybody is getting in on the action.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
Anyone else thrilled with 2 extra insurance runs? Finally my heart rate went down.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
Blanton has to get the Ashurn, right? What a performance.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
Is Dan Wheeler crying?
BTW, how painful would it be to be a rays fan there tonight?
October 26th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
NEPA, I’ll get Werth’s shot, Howard’s, and Blanton’s. Any other special requests? There really hasn’ been any epic at-bats or big battles other than maybe Madson v. Upton last inning.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
danny, I’m in Orlando too and I can’t wait to listen to those guys this week if this all holds up.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA NO WAY
October 26th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
HOWARD IS RED HOT
October 26th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
THE MAJESTIC!
October 26th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Ok guys, save some for tomorrow….please?
October 26th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
Good god save some for tomorrow. Oh and yes, Happ for the 9th please…
October 26th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
DAMM!!
October 26th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
this is crazy. this isn’t happening.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
SHIT YEAH!! HOWARD BABY MONEY!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
I haven’t even seen a huge offensive outburst of anything unusual for the Phillies. Just timely hitting and hits that the Phils have had all season. The Rays look like they’ve hit the wall and have had it. I’d be surprised if the Phillies don’t win tomorrow… Especially with hits like this! The bats are waking up, you got Hamels on the hill tomorrow… CHERISH IT. It’s going to be great. This isn’t just a one-game outburst. These are hits off different pitchers from different angles and different speeds.
Things are just coming together for the Phillies at the right time.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
Oh shit. Howard is hot. That’s not good for the Rays tomorrow. Mr. Kazmir will have his work cut out for him.
Oh, and NEPA, I think I’ll be adding that one tomorrow morning, too
October 26th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
These aren’t just insurance runs, this is becoming a beat down! Let’s hope these guys come in shell shocked tomorrow night. We keep hearing how resilliant they are, but nothing like this has happened to them.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
I want to kick Rays Fan in the face. You’re team is smoked fool. Tick Tock Tick Tock… Where’s Hamels to finish your piece of crap team off.
Welcome to Philadelphia.
Suck it.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
Cole pitches tomorrow. We only need 3….
But right now we need 3 more outs….
October 26th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
That song makes me want to go out and punch slabs of meat in a freezer somewhere….
October 26th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
nice, that’s a cool stat…only the 1950 and the 1999 Yankees went undefeated at home
October 26th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
Matty, gotta chase a chicken in the alley too….
October 26th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
After the Red Sox came back from down 7 in the 7th inning of Game 5 of the ALCS, it seemed like the Rays were shell shocked in Game 6 but were able to wake up for Game 7.
On the other side of things, it could get very interesting if the Rays do get to Hamels tomorrow and do send it back to St. Petersburg. But don’t think about that, haha. Be just as well enough served to shut them down and celebrate tomorrow.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
NO! We don’t only need three. This is not the time for the Hamels-is-pitching-we’re-fine offensive letdown!
October 26th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
Thanks Jamie.
I’m officially getting nothing done tomorrow. Just reading Phillies articles all day during class then maybe working out for about 8 hours to pass the time.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
That brings up an interesting point. No trolls tonight. No Mets trolls (even the decent ones), no Rays trolls (if there is such a thing), and no Red Sux trolls. I’d like to know where redsoxfan is right about now. Maybe he’s bellied up to a bar somewhere telling someone how good the “used to” be, or what his team would be doing to us if they were able to beat the kids from St. Pete.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
I say let Stairs pitch the 9th.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
Besides all the disenheartened Rays fans, the best part is all the METS TROLLS WHO ARE WATCHING THIS AND ARE GONNA HAVE TO SUCK IT FOR THE NEXT YEAR!
I love it!
October 26th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
As far as I see it, series over. The Rays have awoken the sleeping giant that is the Phillies offense. Phillies phans in a possible WS clincher at home tomorrow night, with THE best post season pitcher in baseball. After a whooping like this tonight, we’re coming at these “fearless, amazin Rays” full strength tomorrow. It’s on
October 26th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
I can’t wait to hear Maddon’s post game press conference.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
so Howard will get the Ashburn? 5 RBIs
October 26th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
I freaking love this team, no matter how much they stress me out, or piss me off, there is something about this team I just connect with. I want this thing finished out in Philly tomorrow night.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Too bad we can’t open the season at home against the Mets to have them witness the flag raising(s) and watch our guys get their rings. That would be very nice to see.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Blanton has to get the Ashburn
October 26th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
1 down, 2 to go.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves guys. This city has seen a lot of bad things happen to it. If the Rays can pull off a win tomorrow we’ll still have to go and win a game down there. It’s not over til it’s over.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
I agree, this is Blanton’s game for the Ashburn
October 26th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
There goes Buck again…”David Price will be available multiple innings tomorrow night to help get this thing back to Tampa Bay…”
Put a sock in it idiot – he’s not that special yet.

2 down, 1 to go.

NEPA, I’m not doubting our ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
But blowing a 3-1 series lead would be the worst defeat in Philly history.

is there some list of all the winners of the Ashburn award this year somewhere?

Yeah, but confidence is one thing our city has seen in a long time… Even with our teams that have made it to big games recently, we’ve always had some skepticism towards their being there. Lots of people did. It’s almost like we knew we didn’t belong, we expected to lose.
Now, we have this Phillies team. We’re not just hot, we’re a team. They have confidence, we have confidence. This is our series. This is a TRUE Philadelphia team.

I agree with NEPA though – don’t put the cart before the horse. I don’t want to see the Phils go back to that horrible underground parking garage/baseball field in Florida. Hard to pick up pitches there, stupid F*cking cowbells…
celebrate tomorrow nite at home.

WoooooHooooooo!
GO PHILLY!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
Jamie, as far as what Boston would be doing to the Phillies if they made it… The Red Sox were so close to beating the Rays in Game 7, but I really don’t know how much they would have had in the tank for the World Series against a more rested, more balanced Phillies team.
And here ya go! One more win!
October 26th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
We are 1 win away from the World Championship. Feels weird typing it.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
THAT’S IT BABY – ONE MORE GAME!! YEAH WHAT A TIME TO BE A PHILS FAN!
HOW AM I GONNA SLEEP TONITE????? I WANT TO GET GAME 5 ON NOW!
October 26th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
correction: until we win the World Series*
October 26th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Jamie, Francona said in the final 2008 press conference, the Sox were so banged up that they may not have been able to put a rotationt ogether. Beckett would not have pitched, it would have been Dice-K, Lester, Byrd, and Wakefield. For them to extend the Rays to 7 was insane.

I love when Ken Rosenthal interviews anyone over 6′0.
Ken Rosenthal is a tiny man.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
NEPA, I meant the NL East and NL Pennant flags, and the NL Champion rings, of course. Oh, and the other ones too should we win tomorrow.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
TOMORROW
TOMORROW
TOMORROW
our city celebrates it ALL tomorrow
and what better MAN to do it then HAMELS@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Remember being in these forums when we lost to the Nationals….
October 26th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
Joe Blanton doesn’t know that I know, ya know?
October 26th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
Matty, we would have knocked the dogshit out of the Red Sox if they made it. Lowell out, pitching problems, it wouldn’t even have been as close as this series has.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
I remember watching every game in LA back in July when we got swept cause our bullpen and Durbin blew up. Every game, every out…
October 26th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
Maddon: “We didn’t play well tonight, we’ve just got to get better tomorrow fast.” Heh. “Forget about this one. We just, obviously need to win tomorrow.”
October 26th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
@Phillyguy
Relax, that game hasn’t even started yet
October 26th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
I’m sorry I just feel it, for some reason I feel tomorrow is OUR night. Philadelphia NIGHT!!!!!!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
Did you see the end of Maddon’s press conference….”I think we got some Phillies waiting, we’ll let you go Joe”. I love it.
Should of said, “I think we got the Champs waiting…you can leave now Joe, show yourself out”.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
PHILLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hopefully the offense will show up tomorrow too. Just because it’s Hamels on the mound doesn’t mean we can take this thing for granted. We need to go out there, no matter how Hamels pitches, and score as many runs as possible.
PHILADELPHIA GO CRAZY
