i dont think any of this discussion has anything to do with anything. moving utley to 1st? having a guy with no big league at bats ur starting 2B to start the season? Why dont we just pull a marlins and trade the entire 25 man roster for a the entire league’s draft picks and hope for the best. … we might get a pizza for eaton

Gillick said Utley was hurt in June so this isn’t a surprise. Hopefully Utley won’t miss much time, but if he does I am fine with giving Donald 2B until he is healthy. Re-signing or re-placing Burrell is even more important now.

NJ: Do you think the A’s would take Golson? Beane loves walks and On Base percentage which is not Golson’s strong point.

What the f**k was that trade! If we weren’t that high on Golson why the hell didn’t we send him to Oakland in the Blanton deal? Unless his stats are so deceiving we might as well not look at them he looks like a budget version of Marlon Byrd. How many times do we throw away tradable pieces for players with ‘potential’?

This guy may have 30 home run potential but he doesn’t look like he’s looks like his developments on borrowed time. Why the hell not give Golson a shot in AAA at the least rather than send him packing for a guy older and with less ‘tools’…

Did Nolan Ryan send this with a smile and someone to slap a sign on Amaro’s back saying kick me?

Cleveland isn’t the market we are. and sometimes you have to pay extra just to prove you do care to the players and your fans. Howard is no ordinary talent. How many players have done what he has done at this stage of there career. It was one of the reason it was hard to get a fair value on him there wasn’t to my knowledge who in three years had done what he done . homerun title mvp shortest to reach 100 hr. and he is homegrown. by the way we got our left gielder mayberry in a trade he make minimun wage perfect to them to try to sell to us . a twenty five year old triple a 260 hitter. maybe they thought they were getting his father.

OK. Seriously, what is with all the Howard hate? I understand he has his downfalls but he has been an MVP candidate for three years in a row. His bat is probably the biggest reason pitchers fear our lineup. He has set record for his homeruns. Most by any one in as few at bats and seasons. That is not something you trade away when you have control over it. Even a good young pitcher is less rare than a guy like Howard. I guarentee, you trade howard, you will NEVER make it to the world series or have a shot at winning it again until you get a similar power bat, which, will most likely not be anything like his. He has a bum season, expect him to grow and do better in 2009. You are a fool if you think he’s not an incredibly HUGE part of this team, and I’m not just talking about the scales.

Donald is a smart choice to start…it’s april, and if he and the team suffer, there is time to make it up.

If he does well, then that’s a shot in the arm for the phils right out of the gate.
