Gillick To Stay With Team As Special Adviser

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Mon, November 03, 2008 04:16 PM

Some news out of the Amaro announcement today:

Paul Hagen reports, and David Murphy blogs, that Pat Gillick will stay with the team as an adviser. He’ll do so from his home in Seattle.

Good, good news. Amaro can have that cushion to work with him a bit as he starts up.

This is GREAT news! having Gillick anyway involved with the team should help down the road in defending our title

wish arbuckle would stick around also

  3. Griffin Says:

yeah, Arbuckle did a great job drafting this core. He’ll be missed.
Assuming the Phillies let Burrell go, he’s a Type A free agent and they’ll receive two draft picks for him. I’m interested to see the direction of the team’s draft last year after they went for high risk/high reward guys last year.

woops, I meant “i’m interested to see the direction of the team’s draft THIS year after they went for high risk/high reward guys last year.”

  5. Durbinator Says:

I am glad that Gillick is staying on in some capacity, I thought he would go help out the Mariners.
I wish Arbuckle was still around though.

  6. Chuck Says:

This doesn’t surprise me a bit. Amaro would have had Gillick’s ear anyway. This just assures that this will happen on a more regular basis. Great news indeed!!!!!

I know Gillick had to be seperated from his wife a lot. She has a business in Canada. Either this is a ploy to take some heat off Amaro getting the job over Arbuckle or he can be here part time to ease Amaro into the job, hope Amaro didn’t say manny wasn’t option that would be stupid to rule him out without talking to him.
