Rollins, Victorino Win Gold Gloves
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Wed, November 05, 2008 05:47 PM
Jimmy Rollins and Shane Victorino have won National League Gold Gloves.
Rollins won his second Gold Glove. He committed just seven errors in 2008 with a range factor of 4.44, his best since 2002. Victorino, winning his first Gold Glove, committed just two errors as everyday center fielder, while throwing out seven runners. Both were spectacular in the field all season.
The NL team:
P: Greg Maddux
C: Yadier Molina
1B: Adrian Gonzalez
2B: Brandon Phillips
3B: David Wright
SS: Jimmy Rollins
OF: Shane Victorino
OF: Carlos Beltran
OF: Nate McLouth.
Congratulations to Jimmy and Shane.

Utley and Feliz got robbed.
November 5th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
Well-deserved. Now Shane will be a little more expensive huh? Oh well, after all, he IS one of the best outfielders in the league…
I’m a little surprised Utley didn’t get it. His defense is stellar.
November 5th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Feliz didn’t get robbed. He wasn’t a full time player. Kouzmanoff and Gluas got robbed. One of them should have won.
Gold Glove tends to be overrated. Wasn’t surprised by the JRoll selection, the fielding bible already had him as the best this yr.
November 5th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
Still waiting for Utley and Feliz to get theirs
Especially with the crybaby from up north getting one.
November 5th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
Although Jimmy and Shane deserve it, I’m shocked to see Pedro and Chase not get a GG. Maybe they had to spread the wealth around the league as it were.
November 5th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
Pedro can’t get it as a part time player. He was injured too.
As I predicted in early August, there was no way Chase would get the Gold Glove, even if he deserved it. I have no idea how he finished up, but at that point, despite great range and numerous great plays, he still led all NL 2B in errors.
November 5th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
Pujols was robbed and how the hell does David Wright win a gold glove? Even Mets fan admit he’s a mediocre (at best) fielder. These awards are a joke. Good for Jimmy and Shane though.
November 5th, 2008 at 6:07 pm
Wright sucks as a clutch hitter, but his defense is amazing. Great for Rollins and Shane – who was phenominal defensively, even after that crash w/ Rollins during the playoffs.
November 5th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
They actually got these awards right this year, except i don’t think Wright should won,Troy Glaus was snubbed of the award at 3B…Chase was pretty good at 2B this year, but if you compare him and Phillips stats,Phillips outplayed him.
November 5th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Pujols was robbed. Maddux, I think it has something to do with his 18 total, but he still has good defense.
Hate to say it, but I don’t know if JRoll should of got one this year. Yes, his defense is great, but he did miss over a month. His defense seemed better last year than this year.
As for Utley, its pretty close between him and Phillips, slight edge to Phillips, but Utley will get one one of these days.
Feliz has great defense too, awesome arm. Always accurate. The only thing is that he spent some time at 3rd with Dobbs, so he has a little less innings.
November 5th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
I think that Albert Pujols our 1B player and our 3B Player Troy Glaus should have won the gold glove, Troy Glaus had the best fielding percentage in the NL , and got snubbed at 3rd no reason for t his at all the guy posted a .981 fielding percentage, better than any other 3B in the league. He also put up good numbers at the plate. and Albert got the shaft at 1st he played much better than the guy who got the award. This system is flawed and the best players didnt win the award.
November 5th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
I don’t get to see Wright but when I have he is amazing. The mets fans really said he is mediocre. that’s hard to believe. Pujols is one of the best that I have seen in the field at first. to mention felix is a joke
November 5th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Let’s face it, the Gold Glove is more of a populartiy contest that an actual award for good fielding. Does anyone remember back in 2002, i think it was, when Abreu won the award. Coincidentally he went on that huge home run spree early on, broke records at the home run derby and really came out as a marquee player. But Abreu never fielded right well, he had a lot of speed but was VERY lazy.

Phillies get 470 election votes!!!

November 5th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Utley had the highest +/- out of any position player in baseball…wtf He should have won a gold glove.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
Congrats to Rollins and Victorino, they actaully deserve the award
However the majority of the Gold Gloves are bullshit. David Wright has won two and he makes a good amount of errors, and delgado is no Pujols or Lee
November 6th, 2008 at 10:20 am
470 votes for the Phils! And apparently they’re Libertarians! Right on!
November 6th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
I knew that scumbag Met would win the gold glove at 3B. I bet Feliz didn’t even get considered.
November 6th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
anybody that things utley deserved the nod over brandon phillips has been hitting the pipe. i love utleyu, but phillips is an all-world defensive player. utley is nice defensively, and does a good job, but he’s not quite gold glove material.
November 6th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
*thinks
November 6th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
KM your out of your mind if you don’t think Wright was worthy. Just cause he plays for the Mets? Geez put the rivalry/hate away for a minute and just be a baseball fan and appreciate great players despite their team. I can’t stand pure bias and hate when it comes to individual awards. Great players are great players. Who cares who they play for when it comes to recognition.
