Roadcap Named Reading Manager
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Wed, December 10, 2008 06:53 PM
Mike Drago of the Reading Eagle reports the Reading Phillies have hired Steve Roadcap as their new manager.
The R-Phils finished an underwhelming 53-89, the worst record in the franchise’s history, last season.
Roadcap was managing class-A Lakewood. There, he led the BlueClaws to an 80-60 mark last season. He’ll get some of his Lakewood graduates in Reading, including possibly Michael Taylor and Dominic Brown.

maybe this will take away the reading pitching prospect curse.

I think this pretty much says it all
December 10th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
My wife grew up in the same hometown as him and knows him, good guy, good for him.
December 10th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
You cannot blame the past manager for the failure of the Reading Phillies. Fact is, the Phils have a lacklustre farm system that needs to be overhauled. Hopefully, being World Series Champs will attract some more talent. Moreover, we need to really scour the Carribean countries and Puerto Rico to ascertain the best prospects. Maybe Ruben Amaro, being of Latin extraction, will be influential in this vital cause.
December 10th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
8:13pm: Lauber has the deal: the Phils receive catcher Ronny Paulino from the Pirates for Triple A backstop in Jason Jaramillo.
December 10th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Ronny Paulino? Why? maybe flip him for something? I know the Marlins were interested in him for Hermida? Still doesn’t make sense to me
December 10th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
That trade makes no sense. Aree they going to jettison ruiz and put pressure on Marson????
December 10th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
At the very least Paulino’s a better right handed bat off the bench, 3rd catcher with upside in AAA or the back-up. It’s not an aimless deal and credit to Amaro for getting something for Jaramillo.
December 10th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
I don’t get it…We trade a catcher who wasn’t going to come up for a catcher who will probably be the #2 catcher, and Marson stays down for another year…there’s got to be another trade coming.

December 11th, 2008 at 1:34 am
Yes! The best 8th and 9th inning relievers in baseball! Bye Philly!
December 11th, 2008 at 1:37 am
Loks like PhildaPhanatic was edumakated very goodly with that spelling and grammar.Enough of that…..Minaya is earning his money big time.Putz in a 3 team deal involving the Mariners,Indians and the Amazins….AWESOME DEAL! A no brainer, addition by subtraction.Only player I shed a tear for is Endy Chavez.I still remember that PHENOMINAL catch game 7/2006 NLCS.Heilman and Smith gone is a GREAT remedy in killing that poison pen.Now the Mets need a 7th inning guy, that man….Jason Isringhausen.Cmon Omar, make that deal.AWESOME job Omar, keep it up.

I think Paulino is going to get flipped by the Phils, possibly in the DeRosa deal. The Padres were looking for a good defensive backup catcher and Jaramillo isn’t quite ready. Paulino was the Pirates backup last year, threw out 26% of the basestealers that ran on him, has a good glove, and is still only 28. With Ruiz, Coste, and Marson on the doorstep, I don’t see how he fits into the Phils plans, unless Coste is in a deal. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

New York Mets Receive:
* J.J. Putz
* Jeremy Reed
* Sean Green
Seattle Mariners Receive:

Cleveland Indians Receive:

dont plan on coste being in organization much longer. if he’s not traded, he still prob won’t be on phils major roster. young bloods need a chance. as far as you muts fans go, stop talking trash. you said the same stuff last year when you grabbed santana and look where that landed you. don’t add more fuel to the fire.
December 11th, 2008 at 1:53 am
I see the Muts fans are starting to show up and lets us know they got K-Rod and Putz,o’well they ain’t got sh*t on us until they win a World Championship…Now to the Phils,i also think the catcher they just got Paulino will be dealt somewhere soon or Coste will be the one dealt because we aren’t gonna have 3 catchers when we got Marson down in the minors whos near major league ready.

December 11th, 2008 at 1:34 am
Yes! The best 8th and 9th inning relievers in baseball! Bye Philly!
David, step away from the crack pipe ! K-Rod blew 8 saves last year, Brad Ldge was perfect. Putz was horrible last year after a great 2007. Ryan “The Bridge to Lidge” Madson was dominating down the stretch last year when we overtook the “Choking Muts” for the second year in a row. The best 8th & 9th inning relievers are pitching for The World Champion Philadelphia Phillies !

Both our ball clubs have two rings. It was about time that your OLDER ball club won a championship. Congratulations though.
metsblow4show:
How many saves did K-Rod have last year?
December 11th, 2008 at 1:59 am
and the muts thing is really getting corny honestly.
December 11th, 2008 at 2:03 am
Where is this Puttz trade at? Links please?
December 11th, 2008 at 2:14 am
apparently we aint got shit till we win a ring…ummm i think we hae 2 already and it didnt take as long as you to get those two.
December 11th, 2008 at 2:17 am
Hey Mark, if you watched the way the Angels used him last year, you would realize that 62 save total was inflated. They would pull their set up man with 2 outs in the 9th and nobody on and K-Rod would come in for the final out and his little “Dancing with the Stars” act that should go great with your overated shortstop. K-Rod is no better then Billy Wagner. The bottom line for a closer is save percentage and Lidge save percentage was 100%.
December 11th, 2008 at 2:20 am
putz you haven’t made any detailed arguments, man. therefore, the muts name will stick, for you at least. don’t come trolling with trash. david, k-rod didn’t pitch all 3 outs in all ~65 saves either. lidge pitched 3 outs in 99% of his saves. our closer is better. don’t tell me you’d take your new recruits over our proven bullpen. don’t forget innings 5-7, who will keep runs off the board for you then
December 11th, 2008 at 2:21 am
Lidge>K-fruad>Wagner
December 11th, 2008 at 2:41 am
Been here for the winter meetings and took a baseball sabatical for the last month because nothing was worth speaking about. You guys are crowing that you are the World Fvcking Champs, now I tip my cap to the 2008 Phillies,I really do,they deserve all the accolades that become to them, however again the hunters have become the hunted. Now there have been 9 different Champs in the last 9 years so you know its gonna be tough to defend the title.Mets aren’t done yet and the weakness on the Amazins….is now bolsterd and improved, and yet need more quality arms.I swear,2009 is going to be a fun rivalry again.
December 11th, 2008 at 2:45 am
Yo Tyler, start your own blog if you’re so upset.
December 11th, 2008 at 2:53 am
Hey Tim, don’t you have to be able to form a sentence to do that? LOL
December 11th, 2008 at 2:58 am
That would help. (And you’re saying what?)
December 11th, 2008 at 3:05 am
I’m saying that might be a stretch for Tyler and the rest of the “Muts” fans that come trash talking on here. In Queens, they refer to the 6th grade as their Senior year !
December 11th, 2008 at 4:08 am
The senior year in Queens is the 6th grade?Wow,things must’ve changed since I graduated 20 years ago from the 12th grade High school senior.Hell I even went to my prom and nailed my high school sweetheart too.Why are you people hating on the Mets fans?Yeah I know you guys are Phillies phans, its a Phillies blog,OK.Stop raining on the Mets fans parade,Mets have done some great job thus far,and it hasn’t cost much.Personally,I can’t wait to see what Minaya does for an encore.
December 11th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
You graduated from the 12th grade in Queens,Grrrumpy? OMG, thats like having your PHD. LOL Dr. Grrrumpy, I actually enjoy reading your blogs, you make it known that you are a loyal Muts fan but you actually bring something to the table. Unlike most of the Muts fans that come on here, you offer an intelligent and honest persective of your team, not just spewing trash talk and backing it up with nothing. I think the other Phils fans on here feel pretty much the same about you, your opinion is respected.
