   Myers had a HUGE part in the Phillies success in 2007… and the second-half of 2008, without which we don’t even make the playoffs, let alone win the damn thing..

   I was surprised to see him this low actually… An organization that has seen its fair share of struggles, and this guy has played a big part in our recent years of success

   Tim, just curious..Did you start the list at #1 and count up.. or start from #100 and count-down?

   let’s not forget that awesome 13th inning pinch-hit at bat he had against the Mets back on August 27th. From Ken Mandel’s official wrap-up:

   “Shane Victorino led off the 13th with a triple off Scott Schoeneweis, the eighth Mets pitcher. That forced the Mets to walk the bases loaded. Pitcher Brett Myers provided some early morning comic relief, taking a bat with him to the plate under strict orders not to swing.

   “That’s what I told him,” Manuel said. “I also told him [after], ‘You can follow orders.’ We thought about letting him fake a squeeze, but I told him no because Victorino might break for the plate.”

   Myers gesticulated, moving his arms and feet in an attempt to distract Schoeneweis. The count reached 3-2 before Myers fanned — looking of course. Coste lofted a fly ball beyond Carlos Beltran, and the Philadelphia portion of the 45,204 fans rejoiced.”

   nice wrist tattoo. perfect example of white trash. I have never liked him and probably never will.. reason being is that he has a temper and doesn’t know how to control it.

   The Phils need a guy like Myers on their team, he’s a tough SOB and good for the clubhouse as he seems to be able to lighten a mood or whatever seems to be needed of him. The Kyle Kendrick prank was probably the funniest things I ever saw and I remember thinking when that happened that this team could win the WS. A lose team in Spring Training? That doesn’t happen too much especially in Philly, always a lot of expectation on this team specially the last 8 or so years.

   He bothers me. His jackass antics, smashing two beers together and covering his face in it like a pro-wrestler after they clinched the division, annoyed me to no end. He’s got great stuff when he’s “on” though and I will always have nice memories of everyone that was on the Championship team.

   The problem with Myers is the same as with a lot of pro athletes…especially ones that didn’t go to college.

   They’ve never had to listen to anything other than how great they are their entire lives.. and when people start telling them how they SHOULD act.. they don’t handle it well… he reminds me a TON of Josh Beckett…

   You may be right I don’t know him, but looking at 2008 Meyers took his demotion to the minors in stride and came back strong. I don’t remember him making any excuses for his poor performance. That shows maturity, that he was able to handle a blow like that and turn it into a positive move.

   Still, the second half of 2008 with Meyers was a little scary. Every time he started I wasn’t sure who was gonna show up.

   Im still a HUGE Myers fan.. because when he’s ON.. he’s as good as any pitcher out there.. he was ON for just about the entire 2nd half.. so hopefully he realized something in the minors.

   I actually was at the game that he pitched in Reading, struck out 10, and told everyone how good he looked, he was keeping the ball down in the zone, etc.

   While I did think he would be back to normal upon his return here, I did not think he would be THAT good.. I’m very interested to see which Myers shows up this year, and I firmly disagree that Myers gets traded, unless he tanks.. but then his value is so low its not worthwhile

    Myers is a knucklehead pure and simple. I actually admire the Phils for trying to help him after he clocked his wife in Boston. They didn’t react quick enough but they could have easily traded him for a box of Wheaties and pine tar. They made him get counseling and get straight.

    Myers is the one guy who I think fans respect because he wears his heart on his sleeve, is emotional, lives and dies sometimes by every pitch, and isn’t afraid of confrontation. I think all of us Philly sports fans are this way and YES more so than any other city.

    I don’t like Utley as much as most other fans BECAUSE he doesn’t “let us in” at all…. I love seeing Myers pumped up after a K… I love seeing Victorino pump his fists…

    I HATE seeing Howard stand and admire homeruns (Griffey had the sweetest swing EVER)… Howard reminds me of Bonds when he does it..

    I HATE how Utley’s response to “what don’t the Phillies fans know about” was… “There’s a lot they don’t know about me, and that’s how I like it” (something like that) …

    I Love how Utley plays the game, but I don’t like how he acts like the coolest person ever… Myers is a regular dude who says what on his mind.. I respect that

    Myers has a mountain of talent. I have a theory as to why he hasn’t been more succcessful. I believe he has ADD. Point being that he showed to be a fine relief pitcher when he did not have to go a lot of innings. I believe he loses concentration and makes critical mistake after mistake and this kills him around innings three to six. He has the stuff to battle back after a tough start. I would suggest that Brett try self-hypnosis like Steve Carlton to get his head into the game. He has the stuff to be a front line pitcher and everyone knows this. His head is keeping him mediocre.

    John, I also believe Myers has ADD, you can see how he’s all over the place in the dugout. Though I admire him for trying to take control of his life and career, I will always think of the incident with his wife when I hear his name. There’s no excuse for what he did, I realize it’s in the past, but if you can lose control like that with someone you supposedly love, that’s just someone I can never trust or have complete faith in, personally or professionally.

    I gained respect for him as a pitcher after the Phils sent him down and he came back on fire. Not many millionaires would do that with any job, let alone professional athletes.

    I like Myers. I’ve seen him pitch the best games and the worst games. I had a great seat to watch him pitch that masterpiece 2 hit game against the Brew crew in that classic series that put us back in the race for the post season. It was possibly the best performance I had seen from any pitcher on the team all season. So the man deserves a lot of credit . Sure, we all have something to say about the man. But when he has his best stuff, he’s one of the best in the game.

    Nothing against Myers but I wonder why Tim include a current player on the Phillies roster for his “100 Greatest Phillies”? Myers’ record is obviously incomplete as he has several years of pitching ahead of him. Once his career is over with the Phillies, we should have a more thorough picture of his accomplishments and be rank accordingly.

    At this point in his career with the Phillies, this is where he belongs. If we do another Top 100 countdown after he leaves the Phillies then we’ll reassess. But then there will be new Phillies to bump him up or down the list…so this whole exercise is a moving target, it’s best just to accept it as such.
