How we used to cringe when Joe Table was heading toward the mound. Amazing isn't it? The good that Mesa showed in his first 2 years was just about fully wiped out by the terriblenesss of his final 2 years here.
It makes me wonder, remember the hype when Billy "The Kid" Wagner hit our town? His 101 mph fast ball was the stuff of legends but his mouth and most importantly, his lack of confidence in key games made him the consumate loser in our minds (I think the Muts have picked up on that too!). All the hype about "Flash" Gordon - in the Phillies run last year, Flash did play an important role - after the first game of teh season where he gave up a bundle of runs (which his ERA never did fully recover), he went on a stretch of relief appearances - along with the majority of the Phillies relievers that propelled the Phils into the post season and to our finest hour - at his age though, most of us predicted his mid-season hiatus.
How about Worrell? I'll bet he has a spot on your list! Tim "rattlem'" Worrell -
