Posted by Tim Malcolm, Fri, March 20, 2009 10:15 AM
Coming off a strong game against the Marlins, the Phillies will remain in Roger Dean Stadium today to face the Cardinals, the other occupant of that stadium. Carlos Carrasco has the ball for the Phillies, and game time is 1:05 p.m.

Pardon me, Mister Malcolm.
The philies have a roommate? The other occupant of my house refuses to pick up her socks.
March 20th, 2009 at 10:55 am
No the Phillies don’t have a room mate. The St.Louis Cardinals and the Florida Marlins share a minor league stadium.
March 20th, 2009 at 10:59 am
I see my Fisher Price humor kit did not work in this instance.
Most disconcerting.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:00 am
Chad Durbin and Ryan Madson are also slated to pitch today for the Phillies. Adam Wainwright (1-2 with a 3.72era in spt) starts for the cards and Carlos Carrasco (2-1 with a 6.30era in spt) takes the mound for the phillies. In other news the phils will have gold trim around the letters on their alternate jerseys on opening night, but they will only wear it on opening night and then auction it for charity. For all home games this year the phils will pear a 2008 world series patch. The phillies enter this game with a 8-10-1 record in spring training while the cardinals are 13-6 in spring training.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:04 am
The phillies aren’t the only team with injuries in the nl east. The mets starting catcher brian schneider is out indefinetly and the mets might start the season with backup ramon castro and david wright is playing hurt after he fouled a ball off his toe in the wbc. We’ll know later today if Chan Ho park is ready to make the start tom when the phils entertain the twins of minny. Park throws a bp today and cole hamels might throw a bp as early as tomorrow.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:05 am
More news on the mets. They cut Niese and it looks like Livan Hernandez will be their 5th starter.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:08 am
Weather right now in Jupiter,Fla is 72 degrees and sunny. Phillies lineup today looks like this:
1. Bruntlett SS .300
2. Werth CF .333
3. Utley 2B .167
4. Howard 1B .282
5. Ibanez LF .234
6. Feliz 3B .000
7. Jenkins RF .250
8. Ruiz C .286
9. Carrasco P .000
March 20th, 2009 at 11:11 am
Cardinals lineup today:
1. Schumaker 2B .340
2. Ankiel CF .365
3. Pujols 1B .350
4. Duncan LF .277
5. Green, K SS .415
6. Molina, Y C .333
7. Thurston 3B .268
8. Wainwright P .000
9. Rasmus RF .229
March 20th, 2009 at 11:12 am
This will be a nice test for Carlos Carrasco as faces the likes of Skip Schumaker, Rick Ankiel and Albert Pujols today and all three are the first 3 batters he faces.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:17 am
LaRussa even rocks the Pitcher hitting #8 in Spring Training??? Dude thinks he’s bigger than the game, and that annoys the hell out of me!
March 20th, 2009 at 11:17 am
Executive director of football operations for the Miami Dolphins Bill Parcells is in the house and earlier had a chat with Charlie Manuel and hitting coach Milt Thompson.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:20 am
In the top of the first the phils go 1-2-3 with bruntlett striking out. In the bottom of the first Carrasco gets Schumaker out, walks Ankiel, gets Pujols out, walks Duncan and then gets K,Greene out. Now to the 2nd inning. Howard,Ibanez and Feliz.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:21 am
Ryan Howard keeping his pimp hand strong.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:23 am
Baltimore Orioles and ex-phillies adam eaton update. So far in spring training eaton is 0-2 with a 3.86era in 7IP with 7H, 4R(3ER),1BB and 3K’s
March 20th, 2009 at 11:28 am
Well there goes Ryan Howard. Howard’s 6th homer and 16th rbi of spring training. There was a story today that US manager phoned Ryan Howard to be his 1st baseman and cleanup hitter but Howard said no cause he wanted to turn his spring training success into success early in the season. Howard has always had success in spring training like batting .313 last year or hitting 11 bombs the year before but Howard hasn’t been able to turn that success into success early in the season like in April where he has stunk. So this year he’s gonna try to get this spring training success for the early season success.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:30 am
the phils are done in the second as after howard homers, Ibanez gets out, Feliz gets out and then Jenkins singles. But with Ruiz batting Jenkins gets caught stealing by Yadier Molina who’s really good at defense. 1st time caught stealing for Jenkins this spt.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:31 am
The cards go 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 2nd as Molina,Thurston and Wainwright are out by Carrasco.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:36 am
I hope Howard hits 60 bombs this year. Hopefully his spring success will continue.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:38 am
For wbc fans, Japan beat korea 6-2 to win pool 1. So tomorrow at 9pm EST at Dodger stadium Venezuela takes on South Korea with the winner going to the finals and the loser goin home. Then Sunday at 8pm EST at Dodger stadium jimmy rollins, shane victorino and the USA take on Japan. The winner of Venezuela/South Korea takes on the winner of USA/Japan on Monday 9:30pm EST at Dodger Stadium in the 2009 WBC Finals. Japan lost Maruta yesterday and he’s a big player for them. TB Rays 3B Evan Longoria will join the US because of all the injuries and David Wright playin hurt. Bosox 2B Pedroia is better now but won’t return to the WBC instead he’s in the red sox lineup today and j.c romero returned wednesday in clearwater and is working out there.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:39 am
This is completely off topic, but I just read this article in GQ magazine about Lenny Dykstra and suprise suprise, the man is a douchebag. here is the link:
http://men.style.com/gq/features/landing?id=content_8558
It’s 10 pages, but man, it is worth it. Dykstra screwed the hell out of this guy. The precise reason you should trust no one named Lenny.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:41 am
The 3rd inning for the phils begins with carlos ruiz hitting a single and the carrasco hit a sacrifice to move Ruiz to second. Bruntlett then singles to move Ruiz to 3rd but with men on the corners and 1 out, Jayson werth grounds into a double play to end the 3rd and the threat.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:42 am

Jason, are you the commish on philly.com?
March 20th, 2009 at 11:48 am
Phan… huh? I heard an interview this morning on 610wip about this editor who got shafted by nails so I read the article and thought if anyone had the time,it was worth reading. It was interesting… not promoting any websites, just wanted to share an article pertaining to a former Phil with Phils fans.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:52 am
Wait, are you refering tho the link on my name? No, a buddy of mine had that site up and i thought I would promote it for him… AS you can see, he doesn’t update it much anymore.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:52 am
@Jason, only asking since there was a guy who had the username “commish” during phillies games chats at philly.com
sorry for the confusion
March 20th, 2009 at 11:54 am
Got ya, no, not me. No worries.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:57 am
JasonB… I posted the link to that story on the “Wall-of-Fame” post the other day (or maybe last week?) … and said I would vote for Kruk..
Dykstra is a scumbag.. he played hard, that’s cool… now he sucks at life
March 20th, 2009 at 11:58 am
Don, that was an amazing story… however it confirms my thinking that I root for athletes for playing sports, not for being upstanding citizens. Some are really good guys, but the more you see in the news the more you see that those good guys are the minority.
March 20th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
Back after a while. NCAA Hoops. Bottom of the 3rd, Rasmus flies out. Schumaker then singles, and then Ankiel blasts one. A two run shot his second of spt and his 9th and 10th rbis of the spring. Pujols then gets out followed by Duncan hitting a single and then Greene gettin out. Top of 4th Utley singles but then Howard, Ibanez and Feliz go 1-2-3. Molina flys out to start the bottom of the 4th.
March 20th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
Uh oh, I’m not sayin’ another thing about that article on Dykstra, Tim blacklisted me the other day for my nasty comments! The article speaks for itself, though.
March 20th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Thurston and Wainwright both groundout to end the 4th. Jenkins, Ruiz and Carrasco up in 5th.
March 20th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
Georgie… before I posted that link, I put another comment that was a lot more scathing and it was dumped… I know what you mean. You are right, the article speaks for itself.
March 20th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
Jenkins starts the 5th with his 2nd single of the day. Ruiz then grounds out. Carrasco then strikes out. Bruntlett then gets his 2nd single of the day but Werth grounds out and the inning is over. Rasmus starts the bottom of the 5th.
March 20th, 2009 at 12:23 pm
Khalil Greene has an error in the game which is his 2nd of the spring. Rasmus starts out the 5th by flying out. After Schumaker grounds out, Carrasco leaves and in comes Chad Durbin who gets Rick Ankiel to fly out. Carrasco came in with a 2-1 record with a 6.30era. His line today: 4.2IP, 2R(2ER), 3H, 2BB, 0K, 1HR. His record will either remain 2-1 or go to 2-2. His era is now 5.52.
March 20th, 2009 at 12:36 pm
Utley and Howard single in the 6th and utley scores a run. Ibanez grounds into a double play. Goin to bottom 6th. Wainwright is done: 5IP, 8H,2ER, 0BB, 2K, 1HR his spring record will remain 1-2 now with a 3.68era. Carrasco will remain 2-1 with a 5.52 era. Miller came in for Wainwright and pitched 1IP with a hit. Subs are in for phils now. Harman in 2B, Dobbs at 1B, Mayberry Jr. in LF, and Paulino at C. No more updates for me for now. Come in at end of game. NCAA hoops.
March 20th, 2009 at 12:40 pm
I just finished reading that article.
wow
i am speechless.
March 20th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
The Dude really is a bad bad man.
March 20th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
and it’s over. For the second straight day the phils tie the cards 2-2 in 10 innings. They leave Jupiter, Fla with a record of 0-0-2. Phils are now 8-10-2 and return to clearwater tom when they host the twins at 1:05pm. If Park’s bp went well today he’ll get the start tom. Bullpen’s were great today and the starters were solid. Go phils and cya tom.
March 20th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
I confess to forgetting that these ball players and ex ball players are humans with personalities and foibles.
Not everyone can be a munificent humanitarian like Jamie Moyer.
March 20th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
100 Greatest Phillies later today. Not quite yet.
March 20th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
Isn’t this America.. shouldn’t we be able to say what we want? I’m fine with no curses and whatnot.. but I’ve been deleted some minor things before
March 20th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Sure, this is America. But we here at Phillies Nation feel that there are better ways to express yourself on this site without using the terms “Fuck, Shit , Bitch, Asshole” etc. Our only exception to this rule is when speaking of or too a Mets fan/topic. That’s ok. If there are any problems with this please see our Comment Policy. It’s pretty clear on what we allow and deny.
March 20th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
Dykstra, as that article points out, is truly a Rude Dude. He was easy to root for as a ballplayer, as a person, he is a villain. I also believe he was heavily into steroids, and that is one reason why his career was shortened. Overall, he is a real pig.
March 20th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
I guess we’ll have to skip #7 on the 100 Greatest Phillies list, because it will be dumped when Tim uses the man’s preferred first name. LOL
March 20th, 2009 at 9:35 pm
I have no problem with getting dumped if it is over the line, which, by what I had originally wrote when I posted the Dykstra story, was against the comment policy for sure.
March 21st, 2009 at 2:25 am
100 Greatest Phillies later today? Uh right! That was 12 hours ago!
March 21st, 2009 at 2:26 am
And Lenny was the man! Anyone talks shit on him, I’ll kick their ass!
March 21st, 2009 at 7:34 am
Yes, he was until he stopped playing baseball.
I liked John Kruk so much more. I didn’t see the roids on him.
March 21st, 2009 at 10:12 am
Just for clarification purposes, my original comment on Dykstra has NO swear words and was dumped, then I wrote several more about my dislike of censorship, again, NO swear words, and all of those were dumped. I was so ticked off I refused to even log on here for a few days, when I checked back in my original comment was there, so ok. Just sayin Rob/Tim, you censored me for reasons NOT listed in your little rule book.
March 21st, 2009 at 12:48 pm
Rob.. i was only kidding man… I just like using “Isn’t this America?”… much like the CaddyShack line, “We’re not in Russia.. This isn’t Russia, is it?”
But I’ve been deleted before, the one day talking smack on a Mets fan and his David Wright doll that he did certain things too in his bedroom.
I never curse on here, always use $$$ as in A$$hole.. or !, as in Sh!t… cause really, just implying something isn’t the same as actually saying it..
BUT.. I really have no complaints at all about this site, I feel that you guys are fair, and when things need to be deleted, or when trash talking goes too far, you guys make sure it ends.. which is nice.
God Bless America
