Gamenight: Braves (1-0) At Phillies (0-1)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Tue, April 07, 2009 05:30 PM
Atlanta Braves (1-0) at Philadelphia Phillies (0-1)
Jair Jurrjens vs. Jamie Moyer
Time: 7:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia
Weather: Partly cloudy, 45
TV: MyPhl 17
Twitter: Phillies Nation
After Brett Myers got pounded by a couple longballs, Jamie Moyer hopes to silence the Atlanta Braves to bring the Phillies even at 1-1. Moyer is starting his 23rd major league season, and again, he’s the oldest man playing baseball professionally.
The Braves counter with Jair Jurrjens, who has fared well against the Phillies during his short career (1-2, 3.33 ERA). Moyer, meanwhile, carries an ERA over 5.00 against the Braves. Who hits him well? Garrett Anderson is a career .327 hitter (.567 slugging) against Moyer. Chipper Jones hits .467 off Moyer, and in 18 at bats, Brian McCann is a straight .500 hitter. That doesn’t bode well for the slowballer.
Your gamenight beer: We went with the special Red & White because Sunday was a special night. But let’s get back to business: Time to turn to tradition and the beer that steers us correctly in good and bad. Tonight we party with Yuengling, the old favorite. Good with a cheesesteak, maybe a pretzel. Let’s even the score and go onward and upward.
Go Phillies!

Go Phillies! Let’s do this.
April 7th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
Lineup, again:
Rollins/Victorino/Utley/Howard/Werth/Ibanez/Feliz/Ruiz/Moyer
April 7th, 2009 at 5:44 pm
i think i would rather see rollins out of the 3 hole as with the classic… i thought he did well there and think it would help us… at least make vic lead-off and maybe put rollins at 2… but i think vic would definitely be the better lead-off
April 7th, 2009 at 6:01 pm
i like rollins leading off this year. hes been taking many more pitches
April 7th, 2009 at 6:03 pm
Oh boy, it’s nasty cold outside tonight, we just had a snow squall here in Lancaster, Jamie better wear his longjohns.
April 7th, 2009 at 6:08 pm
i do agree with u dan where u say rollins is taking more pitches… but i think victorino would be better because he isnt so much a power hitter as an OBP kinda guy… rollins is who is more likely to hit the double & yes its nice to have a lead-off double but i would rather vic be on base and score because of that double… just a personal opinion that i would like to see tried once this season
April 7th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
All this Gamenight post does is remind me they don’t sell Yuengling in CT, its terrible. I have a bad feeling about Moyer tonight and all season, hopefully he continues to do what he does and shuts me up.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:01 pm
Keith,
Is there a feed a justin.tv?
April 7th, 2009 at 7:03 pm
lets go boys go gett em
April 7th, 2009 at 7:09 pm
ALREADY?
April 7th, 2009 at 7:11 pm
way to start the game, first pitch? Really
April 7th, 2009 at 7:12 pm
hey ryan … im listening to the game tonight on mlb radio
April 7th, 2009 at 7:12 pm
Oh no
April 7th, 2009 at 7:12 pm
Time to sign Pedro!!
April 7th, 2009 at 7:13 pm
Seems the Braves are going to be a far more aggressive at the plate this season early in the count.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:13 pm
Yikes… Utley’s error costs us another run….
April 7th, 2009 at 7:14 pm
another great start guys
April 7th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
I wish they did the ring ceremony last night honestly, just to get the World Series hoopla out of the way. They just haven’t seemed ready to go just yet.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
So the audio for MLB.tv’s showing is an old Mets-Nationals game. Why?
April 7th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
Ped….I remember the Phans thought Pedro Martinez was toxic and no good, and now you are looking to sign him?Jeez have a little faith.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
Well, it just wouldn’t be April without a rough start to make coming back look better
April 7th, 2009 at 7:17 pm
Phew… it could’ve been worse…
April 7th, 2009 at 7:17 pm
What’s with the audio on mlbtv?? I just turned this on and its a razor commercial…
April 7th, 2009 at 7:17 pm
phew … that could have been a lot worse.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:17 pm
Yeah I don’t know. It’s an old Mets-Nats game.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
GAH! First a razor commercial, now a Mets game. MLB.tv is killing me.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
I agree SJ Mike… This WS hoopla is getting out of hand. Time to put 2008 behind us… the players want to, but it’s literally impossible with so much WS stuff going on.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
I get the game no prob from NYC….albiet its on XM 175
April 7th, 2009 at 7:22 pm
Don’t get me wrong, I love being able to say “World Champs” and the hardware and such is nice, just it’s game time now. All of this junk should have been taken care of Opening Day and leave it at that.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
I switched over to the Braves broadcast. Can someone please let me know when they get the Phil’s audio fixed?
April 7th, 2009 at 7:26 pm
They did something similar with the Mets/Cards in 2007 on Sunday opening night.I guess they give the local sports channels the chance to show the pomp and circumstance because ESPN is required to show the game and has no care to show rings and flags, unless its on SportsCenter.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
I think it has more to do with enticing sellouts for the entire opening home series.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
The Phils audio has been good for me for awhile. Thankfully.
Good to see a few hits early. Maybe we won’t have to wait till the 9th to score a run. Would’ve rather had Ibanez up there in the 5th spot
April 7th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
Are the Phils gonna wear that WS Champs patch all season?
April 7th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
E 8
April 7th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
GW, I believe so.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Finally, got the sound! Nothing like seeing the braves scoring to a annoying razor commercial.
Jurrgens was mentioned today in a Detroit News commentary today which sited all the really bad pitching moves the Tigers mgmt has made since 2007. (Rentaria! ugh!) Non-tendering Durbin was also noted.
Yes…a double for Ibanez
April 7th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
I actually had that patch put on the sleeve of my jersey. My pinstripe jersey has the Citizens Bank Park inaugural patch on one sleeve, the World Series Champs on the other and my red warmup jersey has the Veterans Stadium final season patch.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
free live feed: http://mlb.mlb.com/media/player/mp_tpl_3_1.jsp?w=reflector%3A40700&vid=7759&pid=gen_video&cid=mlb&v=2
April 7th, 2009 at 7:42 pm
Usually, patches are worn all season. They want to show some pride that thet won and some intimidation to the other teams that well, they won.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:43 pm
has the Phillies announcers too
April 7th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
I don’t mind the patches..but those uniforms are getting a bit busy..so best they refrain from putting anything more on them.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
So, where can we watch this piece? the phillies site says phl17, but 17 says family guy.. (wtf.)
the mlb gameday radio is seeming ok on my ipod touch, but seems to be about same quality as AM.
what other options are there? Assuming that since I’m local, the mlb.tv stuff is blacked out i think right?
April 7th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
Nice baserunning.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:46 pm
I dunno I think we need to not attract too much attention to ourselves, last season was last season…
April 7th, 2009 at 7:47 pm
And whats wrong with Family Guy? lol
April 7th, 2009 at 7:48 pm
Wow, Moyer walked. Good patience there.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:48 pm
Darn..
April 7th, 2009 at 7:49 pm
GW, no matter how we slice it, we’ve got a bulls eye on us. We can try to detract all we want, but unfortunately, now that we’ve become the top team, everybody is going to want to beat us, patch or not. I’m assuming the patches will only be worn for the home games though. I can’t imagine them being thrown onto the away jerseys.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
Am I the only one that seems to think that JRoll wouldnt be a bad option as the #5 hitter???
April 7th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
Nice scoop up by Howard.
Joel, I think they’d rather keep J-Roll at leadoff just because he is such a spark plug. You want him leading off and to get the most at bats possible.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
Good inning by Moyer.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
SJ….I told you guys after the Fall Classic that the hunters have become the hunted and its been said by me ver nauseum. My question is now,is Jamie Moyer gonna be the same one from last year or is he gonna show his age.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
At least Moyer had one “mistake” compated to Myers’s three, and we’re getting hits, even if not finishing the job.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Alright, Moyer… keep it up!
April 7th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Hey Keith, thanks a lot for that link man!!
April 7th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
Miner, Moyer is one of the most conditioned athletes in baseball. He takes such good care of himself and his “stuff” doesn’t rely on him being overpowering. He pitches on knowledge and wit, not brute force like a lot of the power pitchers out there.
Crafty pitchers can go for a long time and Moyer has shown that.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
utley should have crushed that last pitch
April 7th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
God damn my mlb.tv must be way off cause Utley just got up to the plate.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
nice job howard… surprisingly
April 7th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
Howard’s swing looks a lot sweeter this year so far.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
Howard brought his bat … anybody else?
April 7th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
I’m not questioning his wit, knowledge or pitching savvy. My question is,as he gets old his arm is gonna start doing things his brain doesn’t want him to do.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
Damn wind.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:01 pm
They’re not showing the Phils game any longer … anyone else having the same problem?
April 7th, 2009 at 8:01 pm
Miner, it seems the more people doubt Moyer and question his abilities based on his age, the more he’ll continue to defy. I guess we’ll know when he can’t do it anymore, but there’s no point is questioning when it will be.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
I’m still getting the game ok on mlbtv. I even have the marlins game up in the corner just for kicks.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
i know it was jurgens and all but a k is a k
April 7th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Wonder if that foul off of Jurgens’ foot might hurt him on the mound.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:14 pm
yeah my mlbtv totally flipped out so im stuck with gameday … sorry if im like 7 pitches behind guys.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:15 pm
dogdirt terrible first inning by moyer, but hes settled into averageness since then…he needs to get through this jame (3rd run just scored) and through 5 and 6 for this to be an acceptable outing…ALL STARTING PITCHERS MUST GO 6 and give up 3 or less, 4 sometimes, to be acceptable. thats what a quality start is..
April 7th, 2009 at 8:15 pm
BUT…NICE ON THE MONEY THROW BY IBANEZ!
April 7th, 2009 at 8:16 pm
YESSS
April 7th, 2009 at 8:16 pm
Ibañez gets his first assist!
April 7th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
despite this struggle, two more scoreless frames from jamie is a QS!
April 7th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
Nice throw
April 7th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
i dont put much stock into “quality starts” … for me a k to bb ratio will tell you if a guy is on or not and 2 ks 1 bb with a 44 strikes to 19 balls is workin for me. Not perfect but we can’t all be cole hamels.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
Good to see Ibanez succeeding on his first test.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
At least they show the big plays and highlights on MLB Network… they just showed Ibañez’ excellent throw… Nice.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
I don’t think I’m gonna like Ibanez that much.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
the phillies look like ass on offense..TIME TO WAKE UP GUYS!!! the season started, in case you dont know…
April 7th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
hey keith … ill take his arm anyways
April 7th, 2009 at 8:22 pm
well Moyer has tied Myers.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:23 pm
Sonofabitch
April 7th, 2009 at 8:23 pm
really? Qs is an indicator of DO YOU GIVE YOU TERAM A CHANCE TO WIN? most professional offenses should be able to come back from a 3 run deficit in 3 innings. thats why a QS is 6 innings 3 or less runs. because anyting more than that doesnt give your team a good chance to win…
and now, this is NOT a QS by moyer, and is therefore a BAD PERFORMANCE. 4 runs 4+ innings.,..bad…this is not giving the phillies a good chance to win this game tonight. they have to stage a major comeback to win now. thats why QUALITY STARTS ARE IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!
April 7th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Damn it…
April 7th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
When does the 2009 season start?
April 7th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
tasachner and CHP are up…
April 7th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
finally … an out.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
Oh that’s why quality starts are important, I never knew, thanks Geoff. Maybe you should be a GM.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
nice charging play by ibanez…
April 7th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
lets get some runs. 5th inning already and its only 8:22pm. the wind is on the braves side. last time i checked flyers 0-0 with fla and philly gettin crushed by charlotte bobcats. wow 5 homers allowed by phils pitching already in 1 game and 5innings thats not complete. marlins crushing nats 8-0. i honestly don’t know why moyer didn’t retire. go out as a champion and a 16game winner. Happ will replace moyer sooner or later. moyer should retire and become phillies scouting person and assitant pitching coach.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:27 pm
wel evan, a few people DID NOT think QS were important!!amazing….
April 7th, 2009 at 8:27 pm
Is Gary Matthews really trying to sound like Apollo Creed?
April 7th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
geoff … i just find quality starts to me a meaningless statistic used by agents to win their clients more money. Eaton led the team in april last year but did he even get so much as a decision? No. That’s all I’m sayin about it.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
thank you travis…i want moyer to do well, but come on man…
right here, you replace moyer for a pinch hitter because you need to generate some semblance of offensive life and effort here..
April 7th, 2009 at 8:29 pm
This team needs offense, and not of the longball kind. They MUST create runs.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
wake up O. lets put bruntlett in seriously.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
Moyer: 5IP, 4runs(all earned), 2BB, 2K, 2HR ERA: 7.20
April 7th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Cairo’s on base…!
April 7th, 2009 at 8:33 pm
phils gotta be more patient. thats why lost sunday and losin so far tonight.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:34 pm
alright chase … ur turn
April 7th, 2009 at 8:34 pm
cmon utley. lets get some runs back.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
come one howard … let’s make it 3 for 3~!
April 7th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
rollins out on 2nd pitch and utley out on 2nd pitch. PATIENT GUYS
April 7th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
They just showed Howard ground out live on MLB Network. Ugh
April 7th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
oh man. heart of lineup done. might not come again till 7th. can’t allow more runs. lights out bullpen up. lets see how park does.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
Ugh… leaving guys on base. At least it’s better than last game when they couldn’t even get guys on base.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:40 pm
Whats Park doing in???
April 7th, 2009 at 8:41 pm
What’s going on? Why is Park in?
April 7th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
He won’t start for a while because of all the days off…
April 7th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
Is Parks not scheduled to pitch for a while? Mid next week I am guessing…
April 7th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
Makes sense, I love these guys but when their bad their bad and when their not their more than not tearing it up. Will we ever see fundemental baseball from the Phils instead of the at alll-costs style?
April 7th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
Chan Ho goes 1-2-3…! He got his fastball up to 93 on that last throw against Kelly Johnson
April 7th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
well 21 pitches is a lot for three outs but he kept battling to keep the bases clear. I’ll take it.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
http://www.chanhoparkincompromisingpositions.com
April 7th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
thats hilarous Evan
April 7th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
yeah evan … thats the funniest thing i’ve seen all night.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
so blanton will be tomorrow? and then…park on fri? when will cole hamels start? (or as my gf called him, “cole haan”)…
April 7th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
Jurrjens out with three walks and none score ….
April 7th, 2009 at 8:55 pm
Hamels is starting on Friday
April 7th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
Last thing I heard, it looked like Cole is scheduled to start the 10th. Then Myers…
April 7th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
Pinch hit for Ruiz here? If you use Dobbs, they can’t counter with a lefty
April 7th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
In play, no out!!
What will it be??
April 7th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
MATT STAIRS! OH YEA
April 7th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
ill take the stairs
April 7th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
YEAH RUIZ
April 7th, 2009 at 8:59 pm
will the Phillies counter with Coste here?
April 7th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
Home run or bust!
April 7th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
I think Charlie wants to save Coste or Bruntlett for later innings if we see the tougher lefties.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
fuck the wind
April 7th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
fu*k the wind
April 7th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
oh well
April 7th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
Damn.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
thats a bust.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
this is a very bad performance ALL AROUND tonight, except parks one good inning so far. this is dog dirt terrible..
April 7th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Ok…..we can score now guys..
April 7th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
Looks like the Phils will have to get to Javy Vazquez to prevent the sweep
April 7th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Very nice, quick inning by Taschner. Thumbs up for the new guy.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
nice job tasch!!
April 7th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
another outstanding inning from the bullpen. Where’s everyone elses head thus far?
April 7th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
come on Phillies!
April 7th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
Taschner just made Yunel Escobar, Chipper, and McCann all ground out
April 7th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
I couldnt agree more geoff
April 7th, 2009 at 9:12 pm
good inning from taschner…theyre going to use him heavily to start this season
April 7th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
ok grace period is over for this offense…at least one of these guys has to get on track now…
April 7th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
Soooo frustrating…
April 7th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
nice hit utley
April 7th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
In play, no out! by Chase
April 7th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
you know why? because the braves and all these other teams are putting up runs, so theres no excuse for OUR team to be slacking. they take a while to heat up AS A WHOLE, but at least one or two of the top 7 guys has to get going here…
April 7th, 2009 at 9:16 pm
With Utley’s and Howard’s two hits each, we would’ve scored at least one run if Shane and Jimmy would’ve done what they’re supposed to: get on base.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:16 pm
another stranded baserunner.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:17 pm
well we still have two innings . . .
April 7th, 2009 at 9:19 pm
We suck. I think we all have to come to terms with the fact that this team is at its best when its fans remind the players how much we hate them.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
True Manny. Still, this whole team just feels the need to swing at early junk, and for the fences. Part of it is Charlie/Milt’s mentality to swing, swing, swing. Not, not good.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
No…not the stance!!!
April 7th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
phillygirl… agreed… WTF!!
April 7th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
It looks like everybody in the MLB is hitting homers, EXCEPT the Phillies.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
Despite the fact that I do wish I could play, Mr. Malcolm, I’d ask that you don’t ghost-post for me anymore, you handsome editor.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
Taschner looks good though, at least we have that going for us.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
And another 1-2-3 inning by Tascher … He’s taken down one by one the 2-7 hitters. Very nice.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
Two scoreless innings from Taschner..noteworthy!
But exactly…this is the MO of this team. when theyre not on fire, basically, they swing at GARBAGE that i wouldnt swing at. when theyre on theyre on, but when theyre not theyre nothing more than a minor league team at the plate. same team as last year offensively. RED HOT or ICE COLD. nothing inbetween, no consistency or steadiness….
time to wake up guys!!!!
April 7th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
Scheity … I tried out once. no takers tho hah
April 7th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
I can only hope we actually score this inning.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
werth!!!!@!@#@@
he got a meatball on the 3-1 pitch and stared at it!!!
April 7th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
someone’s ghosting your name, scheity?
April 7th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
this is a worst opening series performance than last year…about 5 times worse…theyve only scored ONE run
April 7th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
well forget about scoring this inning
April 7th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
You know things aren’t good w/Condrey in the 9th….
April 7th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
i suppose someones going to blame this on the wind!!! well the wind didnt stop the braves from scoring 4 runs in each game now did it?
April 7th, 2009 at 9:35 pm
Did Chooch almost homer?
April 7th, 2009 at 9:35 pm
Phillies lumber in a slumber.I thought this team would go out there with a purpose. Now I know its mad early, but this isn’t looking good for youse guys.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
Johnny Snowden…yeah, man, but they weren’t looking for shortstops then. I heard Davey Lopes told the Inquirer that if you tried out for third, it would’ve been a different story.
Also…WHAT THE HELL. We’re so bad.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:37 pm
the eternal question, do I bother watching the 9th?
April 7th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
This is like Groundhog Day, every year since ‘03 they have played excatly like this….it still drives me sooo nuts!
April 7th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
I ALWAYS watch the 9th… the Phillies can pull off the most impressive comebacks when you least expect them.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
can we skip to May?
April 7th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Well the bullpen has been PERFECT these first two games. There’s something positive there.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Has the BP given up a hit yet?? They’ve all been doing great. Seems we’ve seen all except Madson & Happ.
Go Clay!!!
April 7th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
they stink. pitching is terrible.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
Miner, do you think Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, Shane Victorino, Jason Werth and Raul Ibanez just forgot how to hit a baseball? It’s the SECOND GAME OF THE SEASON. Not looking good is what you say when a team is 8 games out of first place in May. Not looking good is what you say when you watch a 7 game lead with 17 to play dissolve.
A streaky offense that just won a World Series–playing streaky baseball in GAME TWO–is no cause for alarm.

April 7th, 2009 at 9:45 pm

April 7th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
DOG…DIRT…TERRIBLE!
April 7th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
These Atlanta pitchers have been throwing fastballs right down the middle and we can’t even get a decent hit out of them…
April 7th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
Damn, that game was total slop.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
We need to get a win… doesn’t matter if it’s an ugly win and it doesn’t have to be tonight but it has to be soon. The longer this team goes without a win, the more they begin to question themselves. We’ve all read chapter one before… the April slump. It needs to stop… I know that it’s only one game but we should be able to win games like this. We should be able to score more than 4 runs… look at the scoreboard; how many teams are winning games with less than 4 runs? Jamie wasn’t great but our pen was… the guys at the top need to get on base.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
yeah but muley.. ALL OF THESE OTHER TEAMS DONT SEEM TO BE BOTHERED BY THE FACT THAT ITS THE FIRST GAME.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
allright guys. see ya 2morrow
April 7th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
Not a very good start of the season for youse guys.Bravest were well prepared and wanted to show the Phils that they are no slouch.Sure Ibanez and Rillins made great plays and Taschner pitched good, but now its 0-2.Now you are gonna see the loud mouthed Fellow Amazins fans crawl out of the woodwork.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Miner predicted it right.
hahaha, 0-2
April 7th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
LOL. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
My 2 cents. The Phils are veey passive at the plate taking alot of very strait FB for strikes then having to swing at junk and sinkers.
FUCK-IN-A, Can we just FF to May please.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:50 pm
Well…we’re gonna need perfect pitching if the offense doesn’t wake up!! Night!!
April 7th, 2009 at 9:51 pm
champs or not, first games or not…this has been a terrible offensive performance all around. um. you cant keep starting slow. these teams in their division – year after year after year – have kept getting better and better, and you cant assume youre going to be awesome in the summer again. these guys need to be sat down and had a good talking to, just saying: ok guys, im not gonna yell or be an ass, but you have to play like a professional athlete now.
ok guys….you have to come out and win tomorrow. a dog dirt butt waste performance by jamie moyer and this offense, i turned this game off and flipped back and forth between this and the flyers. thats how bad of a performance it was..
April 7th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
LOL, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
My 2 cents, the Phils are too passive at the dish, taking too many good FB and swinging at junk and sinkers. Only game, 2, but an approach that needs to change.
FUCK-N-A, can we just FF to May please?
BTW, I really like the way Ibanez plays. He seems pissed off all night and I like that.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
i love the flyers but i was amped for he phillies tonight and they just totally were unwatchably bad tonight
April 7th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
I’m gonna eat pie for breakfast tomorrow, anybody want a slice?
April 7th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
LOL, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Phils are too passive at the dish. Taking too many good FB. FF to May please. Thank you.

Seriously, these were two ugly games. They were also TWO games.
If you are entirely shocked by ugly Phillies baseball in April, you haven’t been watching. You would think with all of the silly things that everyone has said about this team the past two years from April – July in the comments section of this site only to hop on board in August – October when they make a run, that some would learn their lesson to just sit back and enjoy the ride.
“GILLICK, ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL!” ; )

April 7th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
So, who gets the Jeltz tonight?
April 7th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
Joe, I noticed the same thing. I’m not going to give up yet, they’ll probably fix it up sooner or later. Still, if you can afford most cable or satellite providers have a package that includes every game.

Tying run in scoring position!
