Manny Parra (0-2, 6.97 ERA vs. Jamie Moyer (1-1, 6.55 ERA)

Time: 7:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia.
Weather: Mostly sunny, 64
TV: Comcast Network
Twitter: Phillies Nation

The Phillies grasped momentum Sunday with a big comeback win over the Padres, but the momentum stalled Monday, as the Phils were rained out of their series finale with San Diego. Now the Phils get a visit from the Brewers, the team they ousted in the 2008 National League Division Series.

Milwaukee comes in with an underwhelming 4-8 record, mainly because their big hitters are slumping. Prince Fielder is hitting .175, JJ Hardy his hitting .114 and Ryan Braun is hitting .222. Pitching has also been less than stellar, and it starts with Parra, who goes tonight holding an ERA of over 6.00. The Phillies saw him in the NLDS, briefly for 2.1 scoreless innings. Otherwise, Phils hitters beat him in 2008 pretty well. All five big-time Phillie regulars (Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jayson Werth, Shane Victorino, Jimmy Rollins) are hitting 1.000 off Parra in regular season play.

Jamie Moyer takes the hill for the good guys. He had a tougher time against Milwaukee in the NLDS, but pitched well against them in the regular season. The two Brewers with a lot of experience against the slow tosser are Jason Kendall (10-for-30) and Mike Cameron (2-for-11).

Tonight’s game is on the Comcast Network because of Flyers playoff hockey.

Your gamenight beer: Avant Garde Ale from the Lost Abbey (Calif.) is a Biere de Garde type of beer, which means it has a definitive toasty, bready sort of flavor. Fruit can be potent, but usually in small doses. It’s of a copper look, too, so it kind of sits well with a soup or stew. Maybe a good, strong bowl of barley with fresh, baked bread is in order. Or some chili. Whatever the case, enjoy this heartily.

Go Phillies!

    Go Phillies!!

    MLB TV to the rescue!

  2. Mark B Says:

Come on, Moyer. We need a quality start!

  3. Griffin Says:

I love the old school mb glove logo for the Brew Crew. I’m curious to see where Ibanez is hitting in the lineup against the lefty Parra.

  4. The Dipsy Says:

As I sit here and watch DailyNewsLive, I feel the need to unburden myself of the fact that I absolutely hate Chris Wheeler. Who is this man? A nebishy, goofy, ass kissing, brown nosing, bad broadcasting, know-it-all, who found himself one day, inexplicably, sitting in front of the microphone broadcasting Phillies games. How did he get there? Who does he have pictures of? He never played baseball so I can’t take his “analysis” seriously. His voice is terrible. He’s not interesting or funny or witty or insightful. And it was all okay while Harry was around because people paid little attention to him. Now…it feels like when I’m in the bar talking to a cute girl and an ugly girl and then the cute girl leaves and sticks me with the mutt. Get this no talent, company man outta the booth. He sucks and always has. Harry didn’t even like him and that should tell you all you need to know. The only thing I like about Wheeler is when Gary Matthews picks on him for the inning he broadcasts with him. Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    The Dispy

  5. Hotstove Says:

Joe cowboys west behind the plate yay.

  6. Amanda Orr Says:

I’m really not liking these CN8 games.. stupid Verizon.

  7. Jeff Says:

You should check out the Iron Pigs Carrasco is pitching a no hitter into the 5th

  8. Manny Says:

    Lets go Moyer!

  9. Jeff Says:

okay he gave up a hit lol

  10. Georgie Says:

I hear ya Amanda, I’ve got the Flyers on two channels but no Phillies.

We’re getting a storm here in Lancaster County, don’t know if it’ll hold together to hit Philly.

  11. Manny Says:

Wohooo 2 strikeouts to start the game!

  12. Manny Says:

Damn it. 2 Ks, then a HR.
AHHH.. I was starting to feel really good

  13. Georgie Says:

    Oh no, you’re kidding!

  14. holly Says:

The Dipsy I couldn’t agree more. After Harry’s death I started dreading the thought of Chris Wheeler getting more air time! I much rather listen to Scott Graham who I think is a much better sportscaster.

  15. Manny Says:

If we’re patient at the plate, we can easily beat Manny Parra, who is struggling to find the strike zone

  16. Chase Says:

I can’t watch the game live, so i am watching it on gameday. It says “Injury Delay”. Can someone tell me what happened

  17. Manny Says:

Chase, that was for two Brewers who crashed trying to field Utley’s single.
    Bases loaded for WERTH!

  18. Chase Says:

    Thanks Manny

  19. Manny Says:

YES DOUBLE BY THE LEFTY KILLER!!

    TWO RUNS!

  20. Jeff Says:

come on lets do something here

  21. Jeff Says:

    Way to go Werth!

  22. Manny Says:

BASE HIT IBANEZ!! ONE MORE RUN!!

    RBI MACHINE!!!

  23. Manny Says:

BASE HIT PEDRO! ONE MORE RUN!

    EVERYBODY HITS WOHOOO!

  24. Grrrumpy Miner Says:

Soon we are gonna have “Pat WHO” posts in here! lol

  25. Brian Michael Says:

Finally, the Phils are having the big first inning.

  26. Manny Says:

Everybody in our lineup got an AB in the first.

  27. TJ Says:

    Ibanez earning his keep.

  28. Jeff Says:

Okay Moyer no blowing this lead, If only Rollins will stop chasing first pitches needs to be patient

  29. Tim Malcolm Says:

This has been nice so far.

  30. TJ Says:

Rollins is falling back as he swings. Anyone else notice this. His back foot is moving back instead of staying planted.

  31. Jeff Says:

    Pat Who?

  32. TJ Says:

Such an embarrassing at bat by Howard.

  33. Mike Says:

Thats a boy JROLL keep the average going down you LA PUNK. Bring Donald up and get rid of this guy. Let him hang with Burris. Jroll means no talent. Two good years and bye bye bye

  34. Jeff Says:

Anyone know why we are NOT running I mean lets play some small ball? Also I think Vic needs to lead off till JRoll gets his act together, He will he is not a flash in the pan Mike I beg to differ with that one

  35. John Fire Says:

Mike, Rollins is actually an Oakland Punk, not an LA Punk. Huge, huge difference between those two cities. LA sucks, for one.

  36. Jeff Says:

Not sure who is more frustrating right now the Iron Pigs or the Phils….. Iron Pigs gave up 3 runs in the 7th after Carrasco pitched 6 marvelous innings and of course can only manage 1 run at this point.

  37. Tim Malcolm Says:

I think you all have to calm down about Rollins. Yeah, let’s give up the 2007 MVP and unquestioned heart of the team for Jason Donald right now. Rollins will come around.

    Carrasco was terrific tonight.

I just heard seagulls outside my window. This is great.

  38. Mike Says:

Never liked Rollins. Put him at 6th in the order. Yes he had a great season in 07 but lets face facts. Holiday deserved it more.

  39. Griffin Says:

Wow, people have really turned on J-Roll. Funny how the haters don’t mention his gold glove defense. Jason Donald couldn’t hold J-Roll’s jock.

  40. Mike Says:

Wow, funny how JRoll turned on the fans. I will never forgive him for those comments. I go to alot of games and we have a right to boo. Im tired of him with his excuses always saying different them Manual. Showing up late. Bad sign from a team leader.

  41. Evan Says:

Hey, anyone else live in north jerz and have comcast?

I recently got CN8 added to my channels, and the Phils game is listed in the guide, but a British broadcast of soccer is playing instead. What a tease, at least I have MLB.tv.

  42. Griffin Says:

Yeah, what has J-Roll ever done for the fans, besides win an MVP and win a World Series? I guess some people love to boo but get their feelings hurt when a player speaks up on behalf of his teammates (Ruiz).

  43. Phan in TN Says:

Jamie is pitching smart…lets hope our bullpen lets us win this game.

  44. Mike Says:

Ruiz is a big big boy and can muster enough english to defend himself. When you can hit in the big leagues you will get booed. Athletes should not bash the fans who pay there salaries. They should just go about there bus.

  45. Tools Of Ignorance Says:

Mike, you never thought you saw things differently from how your boss saw things, and voiced your opinion?

  46. Tim Malcolm Says:

Rollins should, however, wait a couple pitches before taking a swing.

  47. Mike Says:

If I voiced my opinion I would be written up or fired. I do my job and keep my mouth shut and make 50 million less. That aboy JRoll get that average under your IQ

  48. Tools Of Ignorance Says:

Mike, what did J-Roll really say?? I’ve been a die hard Phillies fan since I can remember, always rooting on the team and sticking by through thick and thin, and as far back as I can, for the most part when this team was not performing well, the crowd boos, they cheer when they win, that’s all well and good, and you can choose to support your team however you want to, but how were his comments really wrong??

  49. Griffin Says:

Exactly, Rollins said absolutely nothing that wasn’t 100% correct. Complaining about Rollins 12 games into the season coming after a World Series victory is just silly.

  50. Tools Of Ignorance Says:

He does his job too, and part of his job is to talk, for the people to focus on him, and take the focus off of members of his team….He’s done that time and again.

  51. Mike Says:

This is a post from a famous phillies fan after the comment….

This gets me irratated. Jimmy Rollins had so much support last year because of how well he played, but this year since it’s an off year for him, he rips us. We DO have the entire teams back, and it’s so disturbing to hear a player say that he isn’t appreciating what the fans are saying. We want him to do well, and when he’s not he knows, and we make it known. Oh well, you’re getting paid to play baseball, not run your mouth. Good Job JRoll.

  52. Manny Says:

Oh damn it… Just when I thought Jamie was cruising…

  53. Mike Says:

Moyer could not get anyone on this site out. He should of become a coach.

  54. Tim Malcolm Says:

    So Braun owns Moyer.

  55. Griffin Says:

The hypocrisy of a fan being hypersensitive whenever a player speaks up for himself, telling J-Roll to have thicker skin when he is getting booed, is not lost on anyone.

I guess not all players are robots. Shame on them.

  56. Manny Says:

One more inning and he could still get a quality start, though.

  57. Tools Of Ignorance Says:

And did you ever think, and realize, that baseball is a huge mental game, where you fail far more times than you succeed. That the players (even though they get paid large sums of money), still get mad when they screw up when they let their teammates down. They feel bad enough, and fail enough times in this game, and hearing 40,000 people boo you can’t help you out at all. When they are playing home games, they should be able to count on their “fans” to cheer for them, and let them know that we still have their backs and believe in them. (positivity helps!)

(btw..sorry if these comments come in slow, my internet is sucking right now.)

  58. Mike Says:

yea shame on them griffy boy. they make alot of money to play a game i play on sundays for free. they pick up a white ball and throw it. SHUT YOUR MOUTH GRIFFY YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT

  59. Manny Says:

I have a feeling that RAUUUL will homer in this inning.

  60. Griffin Says:

WHENVER YOU’RE LOSING AN ARGUMENT, JUST RESORT TO CAPS.

  61. Manny Says:

    ..or walk

  62. Manny Says:

    Oh shit.. Ibanez stole second!

  63. Manny Says:

Smart baserunning by Ibanez got us another run…

  64. Griffin Says:

    Nice job by Ibanez

  65. Manny Says:

Lets see if Rollins can deliver after they walk MOYER

  66. Mike Says:

    THAT A BOY JROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  67. Mike Says:

What to be Shane…Lets go UT

  68. Tim Malcolm Says:

I’m surprised Jorge Julio still gets chances in the bigs.

  69. Manny Says:

Raul stealing 2nd made Julio lose it… he was good against Werth

  70. Griffin Says:

I’m with you Tim, I’m shocked George July is still in the bigs.

  71. Tim Malcolm Says:

    RJ SWINDLE SIGHTING!

  72. Mike Says:

    OH UTLEY

  73. Manny Says:

Poor Swindle… facing Utley and Howard must be FREAKING SCARY

  74. Griffin Says:

Swindle looks like he’s about to cry.

  75. Evan Says:

Raul stealing a base there just shows how he’s the anti-Burrell. Way to make it happen. The rest of that incredible half inning just came together after that. How about walking Moyer, what a terrible move!

  76. Amanda Orr Says:

Rain is on its way! I’m abou5 15 min away from the city, and its pouring. There will be a rain delay

  77. Manny Says:

F the rain. Nice double Werth!

  78. Manny Says:

Can’t they just end the game early and give us the win?

  79. Jeff Says:

Tim, there always seems to be at least one that owns Moyer, luckily its only one tonight!

  80. Manny Says:

Looks like it’s gonna be ugly but it won’t rain for too long…

    http://www.weather.com/outlook/health/coldandflu/map/interactive/USPA1276?from=36hr_topnav_flu

  81. Amanda Orr Says:

Yeah, its slowing down now where I am.. In about 10 minutes, i expect it to start in Philly. But it didnt last long.

  82. Jeff Says:

    Not raining here….

but then again I live in Northern Va LOL

  83. Manny Says:

    Ohhh Jamie in the 7th

  84. Manny Says:

Yea the hour-by-hour forecast says 100% and then in less than an hour it goes to 0%

  85. Jeff Says:

Come on Jamie get through this inning and give the bullpen a break

  86. Amanda Orr Says:

Any minute now…. Big thunder and lightning.

Moyer looking pretty good.. at least he sounds good on the radio.

  87. Manny Says:

Moyer can’t go through 7 innings: fact.

  88. Jeff Says:

    gotta have some hope!

  89. Manny Says:

They should stop the game right now before the field becomes unplayable… it’ll resume soon

  90. Amanda Orr Says:

Ground Crew rolling out the tarp now.

  91. Jeff Says:

Flyers scored 2-1 in the 3rd

  92. Brian of CO Says:

Like so many others on here I suspect, I was mighty pissed when Ibanez signed and Pat (who) the Bat left. But I can honestly say I was DEAD WRONG. I liked Pat Burrell, but Raul Ibanez has been a freaking beast this season. If he makes a fielding mistake, he gets the runs back. Even if he doesnt make a mistake, he scores runs. Yet another game with at least 1 RBI and 1 R.

  93. Tim Malcolm Says:

I hope they just call this one, with the Flyers about to end and all.

  94. Phan in TN Says:

Raul has shown glimpses of brilliance, but it take a whole season for me to be impressed. I wanted alot from Jenkins but wasn’t rewarded.

  95. Jeff Says:

I hardly say that .383 is a glimpse of brilliance. Not a whole season, but I will take it for now and be quite happy about it.

  96. Brian of CO Says:

Well Florida lost again, thats a good thing, but the Mets are winning in St Louis. I wouldnt count the Cards out yet, hopefully the Mets lose. That would make a very good day.

  97. Jeff Says:

very true Brian, need to get a couple of games with this type of pitching and we will be in good shape

  98. Geoff Says:

The FLyers had to win Game 2, because Marty Stole that game for them and they blew it. Fleury stole this game tonight – unless a miracle occurs the Flyers are done. They have to wipe the slate clean and go all out in Game 5.

  99. Geoff Says:

No you know what? Moyer is lucky they put up 11 runs or else hed be on the burner. I mean this guy might as well retire while hes ahead tonight and save the humiliation. Outstanding performance by the offense tonight. Its absurd they havent called this game yet. They should make Jamie Moyer finish out the game because I dont need to see him anymore, seya pal. Pat on the Back to the Lineup tonight.

  100. Tim Malcolm Says:

By the way, Ibanez is EXACTLY what I was expecting.

  101. Brian of CO Says:

I wish I had the confidence when he first signed. But hey, whether its been 2 weeks or a season, he has had one heck of a start.

  102. Jeff Says:

    Agree with you totally Tim

  103. peasant Says:

moyer put up a great effort tonight, he’s a finesse pitcher and if he has that kind of control he’ll win 10 games and with the big bats showing up behind him he might even win 14-15 again this year, doubt he’ll have a sub 4.00 era and 16 wins this year, but geoff needs to lay off the Jameson and give some respect to the only pitcher left standing from his generation

  104. Georgie Says:

Did they call the game or what?

  105. Tim Malcolm Says:

Agreed. Geoff, I’m glad you post here, but dude, Moyer had a great night. Braun just figured him out. Otherwise, he was vintage, hitting his spots, inducing easy outs. That’s the Moyer we love.

  106. Griffin Says:

I hated the Ibanez deal because of the money and length of the deal but I must say, he’s been better than I expected so far.

  107. Matt Says:

I’m so sick of Geoff. Moyer had a quality start tonight. 3 runs in 6+ innings. It’s ridiculous, before the season it was trade Howard, he’s not a team player. Then earlier today, it was trade Jimmy Rollins. Now it’s get rid of Jamie Moyer after a start in which he handled pretty much everyone but Ryan Braun, and gave up just 3 earned.

  108. peasant Says:

braun is one of the best RH hitters in the league, my only worry about moyer is that he will get clobbered by guys like him, but most of the teams the phils play in the regular season aren’t heavy with sluggers like our own lovely lineup is, however, when it comes to the playoffs, we saw moyer get rocked pretty heavy, he’s no greg maddux, but he’s no manny parra either

  109. KevO Says:

    Geoff is ridiculously annoying

  110. cxl72 Says:

2009 Ibanez looks to be better than 2009 Burrell. He turns 37 in June and most players don’t play well past 35 so his future productivity is questionable. Through 12 games he has been fantastic.

  111. Jenn Says:

    Georgie- tarps coming off…re-start 10:45pm

  112. Geoff Says:

relax i was joking…mad at the flyers losing thats all…he earned himself one more mulligan with tonights Quality Start. Braun is borderline otherworldly, and thats how you explain the two HRs.

  113. cxl72 Says:

Past history leads me to believe Moyer will give us 5-6 innings per start and let up 3 to 4 runs each time out.

7 inning 2 run outings will be balanced out by 4 inning 5 earned run games.

Leads to an ERA around 5.00 for Moyer. Not too bad for a #4.

We need more from Hamels and Blanton and a real #5.

    I can live with Moyer.

  114. Georgie Says:

Ibanez and Moyer both have ridiculous training regimens. Raul uses a hyperbaric chamber.

I think Geoff was being sarcastic, although he usually hates on Moyer, that was his funny side showing.

Not looking good for the Flyers.

  115. KevO Says:

Braun, other worldly? give me a break

  116. Georgie Says:

Thanks Jenn, what inning is it, I don’t have the Phils game tonight, watched the Flyers lose.

  117. Brian of CO Says:

Here we go boys and Girls. Lets get another one! Bullpen better come through, they were given a nice lead to keep.

  118. Brian of CO Says:

And The Cards tied it up against the Mets in St Louis. Hopefully the Mets lose, that would make my day. Any day the Mets lose is a decent day, but a Mets loss with a Phillies day is a very good day.

  119. Jeff Says:

yeah Moyer is solid overall, I figure he is holding place until Carrasco is ready to take his spot. But in the mean time he is a pretty good place holder

  120. Jenn Says:

    top of the 7th…..2 outs.
I’m not watching either…listening to 1210 and watching Gameday online. F’in Comcast Network

  121. Manny Says:

So Jamie got 4ER after this?

  122. Brian of CO Says:

    Freakin Ryan Braun.

  123. Tim Malcolm Says:

KevO: I’d agree. Look at his numbers in 2007 … in about 100 games. Also had a great 2008.

  124. Brian of CO Says:

And Fat Boy fielder strike out. SWEET!

  125. Jamie Says:

All people were doing the other night was bitching and whining about our pitchers not getting quality starts, and the Geoff starts on his usual bi-weekly “trade ‘em” rants. Tonight Moyer pitches well, the offense does well, and our pitchers have had several quality starts in the past few days. Still whining. Gotta love those frontrunner fans!

  126. cxl72 Says:

Is that Jamie Moyer posting as Jamie???

    LOL

As I was defending Moyer in a prior post he got charged with another run. Seriously 6ip 4 er is an ERA of 6.00 which is Eatonesqe. I do think Moyer can hold down the job and do an okay job.

At least the SP are getting 5 to 6 per start and not totally killing the bullpen.

  127. Griffin Says:

It looks like Taschner time in the 9th!

  128. Brian of CO Says:

Starters are getting better as time goes on. Still not quite how we finished last year, or as good as they can be, but getting better is all we can ask at this point. Bullpen has been extremely surprising, but see to be slowly improving back the the bullpen we know and love. As for “Eatoneqe” Would that be more like 4 ip 6 er!

  129. cxl72 Says:

I agree Brian. Every outing our SP look better and you’re right—-An Eaton should be 4IP or less and 6 or more earned runs.

  130. Matt Says:

Alright, Cards just beat the Mets. Now the Phils just need to hang on and win this one.

  131. Griffin Says:

Putz gave up the go-ahead runs for the Mets tonight.

  132. Brian of CO Says:

Florida lost, Braves lost AND the Mets all lost. Good day so far.

  133. cxl72 Says:

Here is one stat, going into tonight Phillies hitters had only 55 strikeouts, the fewest in baseball. I know they have had 2 rainouts but still thats pretty damn good. 8k so far through 7 2/3 tonight.

  134. Griffin Says:

Nice win. Phils pick up a gain on everyone. Good night everyone.

  135. Brian of CO Says:

    Game Over baby!

  136. Griffin Says:

whoops, I meant pick up a GAME on everyone.

  137. peasant Says:
