Braden Looper (1-0, 3.27 ERA vs. Joe Blanton (0-1, 9.00 ERA)

Time: 7:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia.
Weather: Cloudy, 54
TV: Comcast Network
Twitter: Phillies Nation

Bashing was in order Tuesday against Milwaukee, as the Phillies offense took advantage of poor pitching by Manny Parra. Tonight they get a recognizable face: Braden Looper, who is 2-6 with a 5.53 ERA against the Phils, probably his worst overall effort against any National League team. Individually, the Phils have good numbers against Looper – in five career at bats against Looper, Ryan Howard has four home runs. Seriously. Chase Utley is a .364 hitter against Looper; Jimmy Rollins is hitting .333 against him. Back to Howard – anything less than three home runs tonight is failure.

The Phils throw Joe Blanton out there. He handled Milwaukee well in 2008, including a fine start in game four of the National League Division Series, to take the series. Mike Cameron has hit Blanton considerably well, knocking two home runs in his four career at bats against Kentucky Joe.

Again, the game is airing on the Comcast Network, now thanks to the Sixers playoff chase.

Your gamenight beer: Kentucky Joe takes the mound, and what better way to celebrate the man after his first Phillies loss than with Bluegrass Nut Brown Ale, right from his home state’s Bluegrass Brewery. Laced with caramel and nutty flavors, this English Brown is much like Newcastle, but probably a little sweeter. It goes well with a fat burger. A big, fat, Kentucky Joe burger. Yeah, kid.

Go Phillies!

Jaime Moyer on PTI in like 10 seconds…. if you read this later catch him at 640 on espn2

  2. Craig Says:

Change the colour of the Brewers name. It’s almost impossible to read

  3. Jeff of NoVa. Says:

Lets get this cooking…. 3 in a row would be nice and good starting pitching is what we need tonight

  4. T Marty Says:

Son of a… friggin’ Sixers and Flyers need to go down (i’m a homer, but baseball is a priority) so i can watch the Phils. Fios is great except when it comes to CN8. Why aren’t the playoffs on TBS or something?!? Ugh, really didn’t want to go to the bar tonight, but… Go Phils!

  5. Michael Stubel Says:

    T Marty,

That is a terrible argument. I am Phillies diehard, as we all are, but do not wish losses upon the Sixers and Flyers!

  6. T Marty Says:

ps, definitely must try that brew, (Bluegrass Nut Brown Ale), don’t know if it’s because i’m listening to Bill Monroe, i’m portly, and i love burgers, but you sold me.

  7. Chase Mutley Says:

Marlins just got swept by the Bucs. Gotta capitalize on that.

  8. John Holtz Says:

I thought that it was pretty cool for Shane Victorino to get the Lou Gehrig award from that fraternity based out of Oxford, Ohio. The award is maintained in Cooperstown, and you can’t be happier for a player that seems dedicated to sportsmanship and being an all-around good guy.

Shane, heat up and make my autographed World Series ball value go up, you’re the man.

  9. Johnny Snowden Says:

yo holtz i wouldn’t wish that on anyone. the IRS counts a lot of memorabilia as income. a friend of mine had to come up with like 3 grand once cause his grandfather gave him a babe ruth autographed ball. He didnt even wanna sell it and they were like it counts as currency although I also want victorino to heat up. haha

  10. Jeff of NoVa. Says:

Nice DP Howard, come on now he is being such a rally buster lately

  11. Phan in TN Says:

    oh geez

lookin like little leagues out there

  12. Mark Says:

    What a throw by RUALLLLLLLLLLLL

  13. nate Says:

wow. it’s the fourth and the pitcher hasn’t given up a home run yet? fan-tastic. let’s get some runs to go with the pitching.

  14. IRONPPIGPEN Says:

Please come tell these two Baseball Haters (one a local professor at Muhlenberg College) to jump in a lake

    lvironpigs.wordpress.com

According to these two ding-dongs, no one should ever build a baseball (or any other sport) stadium

  15. Greg B Says:

whoof this is one is a sleeper. Wake up, Phils bats.

  16. Mark Says:

Good job old man charlie. Way to leave blanton in to long tonight. back under 500 we go. we suck big. not as big as the flyers.

  17. Greg V. Says:

Is it just me or is the home plate ump giving Looper strikes that he isn’t giving Blanton? I’m calling shenanigans!

  18. shag beta sigma delta Says:

It is only the 8th inning but before all the bad pitching should have gotten Lowe comments come out again. How do you not score 3 runs against Looper, and what 4 hits through 7. These guys only hit every other day or what. I am sitting at work hoping that it is worth watching the game on dvr if I ever get out of here. 3 runs through 6 by Blanton is ok with me. Any one have input on where the bats went today. Being the optomist I think I might just have to watch the last two innings to see the Phillies come back again. Condrey looks like he is pitching well again.

  19. Matt M Says:

shag sometimes teams have bad days. And worse pitchers than Braden Looper have shut the Phillies down before.

  20. shag beta sigma delta Says:

that does not make it right, I mean that ate this guy up last year, and I get the bad day thing, but this is like every other day thing so far this year

  21. shag beta sigma delta Says:

Uttly looking like a good at bat here

  22. Matt Says:

if not for the defensive capabilities of Jimmy Rollins, I have a hard time believing that he should still be in the starting lineup.
And is it just me, or has Victorino attempted that sneak bunt move more times than he should?
Especially in the 8th inning, down 3, and nobody on? I just don’t understand that mentality, maybe in the 4th, or 5th, but he’s a solid hitter, and should be swinging there

  23. Geoff Says:

Waste of a solid pitching performance by Joey B tonight.

  24. Gavin Says:

hey, at least we got good pitching!!

  25. Jeff of NoVa. Says:

man our bench has nothing. I mean, putting coste up there was an absolute waste, Watching Jaramillo play well with the Pirates, shows another great trade!

  26. Mark Says:

ruben jr is as good as a gm as a player. HE SUCKS. Jaramillo should of never been traded. my god. blanton is a waste. if our offense is not hitting we are in trouble. 6 and 7 for this team is a disgrace.

  27. fanman Says:

Yeah alot of close pitches tonite….but hey look how many sloppy pitches Moyer got away with last year he ain’t getting them this year so its not so bad for Joe….he was biting but not getting them tonite….even with my sound off …TMAC gotta go…only thing worse them him is the 2 mudducks on the mic for the 76′ers…..my god they are the worst….flip the clikker back and forth with no sound…in all I think we look tired….hope Cole’s wife has a better plan for her boy….anwser this how come everyone else can come into the start of the season in shape 100 % and we have to wait for Cole?…he doesn’t have this ….he’s working on that…yeah I’ll tell my boss down there well give 2 weeks boss I’ll be all right….give me a break!

  28. Greg V. Says:

I’m sick of everyone hating on Coste! He hits well. He’s even clutch sometimes! I’ll concede he didn’t get it done here and it was an ugly strike out, but come on, we were down to our last batter! It doesn’t always get done!

  29. cxl72 Says:

Lots of good stuff tonight with the pitching. They win tomorrow and they win the series. Even the best teams lose 60 games a year. Man everyone one here is so tense.

  30. cxl72 Says:

Lots of good stuff tonight with the pitching. They win tomorrow and they win the series. Even the best teams lose 60 games a year. Man almost everyone on here is so tense. Relax, the Marlins are coming back to Earth, the Mets only win when Santana picthes and the Braves and Nats suck. Relax…..

  31. Nick Says:

Totally agree cxl, couldn’t have said it better myself.

  32. Mickey Says:

Mark, you are an f-ing idiot. cxl, i couldnt agree more!!

  33. Mickey Says:

Jeff of NoVa, you are a GD moron as well!!! HAve you even looked at what JAramillo has done so far with the Pirates? NOTHING!!!!!

  34. mikemike Says:

Jaramillo has not been anything to brag about in triple a . Showed he couldn’t hit and okay defense. Blanton even when he was winning last year had only 3 or 4 quality starts. But all the moves work so you can’t blame them. The only move that bothers me is Moyer that money and blanton could have brought us lowe and with happ we would have a better staff in my opinion.

  35. Don M Says:

Lowe signed for something close to $15 a year for 4 years… so for 2009, and 2010 that might seem like a good deal.. and then it becomes a terrible contract for the Braves.

Meanwhile, we kept a consistent pitcher who we’ll have either in the rotation next year as the #4 or #5, or as the odd-man-out if any of the young pitchers are ready to come up and claim a job.
