   wow. i remember this guy had lightning stuff when he was a rookie with the Blue Jays. I guess after his rookie year he never really put it together again. I remember thinking he was going to be a future ace. and I’m pretty sure the Toronto brass and most scouts around baseball thought the same. Hopefully he can find whatever made him good that one year

   Yawn… if released by such a team as the Nats, what realistic expectations one should have? This reminds me of years past where the front office would readily sign retreads and damaged goods. I am hoping our newly anoited GM does not go that route.

   Why did Werth get the Jeltz? Because of the wind that knocked off his homer? I’d give it to Moyer now that I think about it… 4ER in 5.0 innings… that’s worse than Myers’s 6.0 innings.

   Like I said in the other post.. I thought his ball to LF in the 3rd inning was AT LEAST 20 rows back he got all of it, the wind just killed it

   He was 25-15 in 3 and a half seasons in Toronto. My tv carries Snet which carries jays games. He really had talented stuff. Since shoulder surgery he’s not been the same. He was a 13 game winner in Toronto. Hopefully he rebounds. And bout the phils they need to be more patient. They’re grounding out and flying out on the first and second pitch. Also we need to get out of the first inning. Opening day down 2-0 without even the phils batting and yesterday same thing down 2-0 without the phils batting. From Blanton’s spt and career and his age this seems blanton’s breakout year. He could be one of the best #4 starter in the majors this year. Seems like everything is the same as last year. last offseason we had a major hole in 3B we signed Pedro Feliz. This year we had a major hole in LF we signed Raul Ibanez. We went 12-18-1 in spt last year this year 12-18-2. We lost the first 2 games last year and we’ve lost the first 2 this year. 2nd game of last year we got shutout 1-0 to the nats nl east opponent. 2nd game this year we got shutout 4-0 to braves nl east opponent. Last year opening game we tried to make a comeback but lost 10-6. Opening night this year we tried to make a comeback in 9th but lost 4-1. Last year 3rd game we won 8-7 in extras. What happens today? Anyways no surprise phils started slow. Phils have now gone 0-2 in the last four years and under manuel the phils are 2-12 in opening series. Getting back to my main point javier vasquez startin for braves today phils need to be patient because this guy can chew innings. 12-16 last year with a 4+ era but he’s the guy who usually throw 200 innings and gets 200 k’s in a season.

   I would give the Jeltz it to the guy whose first pitch was cranked into the seats…

   Chacin was good when he was with Toronto, hopefully he can regain some of his stuff but like Bruce said…if a team like the Nats can 86 him then he must not be any good anymore.

    He left a lot of guys on base last night a few times he came to the plate with chances to cut the lead. It honestly doesn’t matter who you give the Jeltz to, with the exception of Howard and Utley (minus his one error) no one really had a great game last night. Or past 2 nights

    It sucks that the Phillies can’t get like a Johan Santana or Derek Lowe type pitcher to be behind Hamels in the rotation.

    So the Phils signed Chacin from the Nats?They sign a guy who couldn’t crack the Nats bullpen?Wow,I didn’t know the Phils pen was THAT bad…or is he a stop-gap til J.C. Romero returns.

    It was just a bad game by the Phillies. Most of the Players were trying to Kill the Ball to the outfield but the wind keep knocking it down especially in Left Field. It would have been interesting if the Wind was knocking balls down, the Phillies had at least 3-4 warning track shots. I think if any of the lefties tried to pull the ball down right field, which they probably were, but anyway some of those shots would have been gone. The Wind was blowing strong from left field to right field. too bad Werth hit is so high in the air. Damn Mother Nature! lol

    It’s really no biggie but .. if you wanna give the Jeltz to someone in the offense, look at the stats. Jimmy also had 3 LOB (like Werth) but he went 0-5 (worse than Werth’s 0-4)… and most importantly, he failed to get on base (his job) for Utley and Howard –who each went 2-4.

    Hmmm but Moyer definitely deserves it more… but I assume that out of respect for the guy, he didn’t get it.

    Kind of off topic but with the need for a righty bat probably still in the Phils minds what about adding Jonny Gomes recently dfa’d? Of course they’d bring him to Minor League Camp to see what he’s got first before just throwing him up to the Phils but he’d be an interesting signing and brings a lot of chemistry to the clubhouse, he was the big clubhouse guy for the Rays last year, and he’s comfortable with a bench role since being benched 2+ yrs ago but has a lot of pop. Just throwing a name out there to see what everyone thinks.

    Yeah Gomes could be an ok RH bat, but he got cut from the Reds…who need help in the OF to begin with…

    also, Chacin wont come right to the Phillies….they were talking about his Fastball being only 82mph beause he has not regained his arm strength and velocity yet. Hes a guy that could be used in Extended ST or single A somewhere in florida, let him recover in a warm environment and regain arm strength. then you move him to AAA and see what hes got when hes healthy.

    The Nats seem to be dangling Austin Kearns or Josh Willingham. That could be helpful…all you need is a guy who has RH pop, who can hit 5th on teh rare occasion taht hell start a game…

    anyone besides me interested in how ADAM EATON will do when he faces off against the RAYS.. i don’t think he’s confirmed yet as the starter this weekend but if he is …this could get ugly fast….

    decent pick-up, not being able to crack the staff of a team like the Nats means nothing. He’s clearly not back to being healthy or servicable but has got the stuff so there’s no reason not to take a punt with him in the minors ad see how he fares, you never know. Plus you fill out an iron pigs roster with guys capable of getting to the majors and guess what, some will and I like guys sat next to Carrasco who know what the shows like and guys throwing to Marson who’ve pitched in the show to experienced catchers.

    Most here had very little good to say about the Koplove, Majewski and Cairo signing so I’m gonna give the benefit of the doubt with guys like Chacin and Lopez even if it’s just to give Kendrick more incentive to climb back up the depth chart;

    years ago when they were at the bottom of the barrell, when they signed a guy like this, instead of him going to the minor leagues to recover and improve, theyd IMMEDIATELY bring him up to the big team and hed be like the 3rd starter.

    I remember when they were bottom of the barrel and they’d sign Jeff Brantley and Mike Jackson and Jeff Portugal to contracts and then these guys would be injured just about the whole season and never earn their checks, of course in their contract years they’d be above average for us, brings back memories of sittin in the vet being one of only a few sitting in the 700 level watchin a game.

    Just found this interesting fact about Gustavo Chacin. Chacín cannot grow hair because of alopecia areata. He also wears sunglasses always when pitching. Doesn’t matter sunny or cloudy, rainy or snowy, wet or dry, indoors or outdoors.
