Phillies Announce Kalas Tributes, Patch

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Wed, April 15, 2009 10:15 AM

The Phillies have rolled out plans to honor the late Harry Kalas. From a team press release:

Memorial Tribute/Funeral Services

The Kalas family and the Phillies have announced that a memorial tribute for Harry Kalas will be held at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday, April 18.

An opportunity to pay respects to the Hall of Fame broadcaster will be given on a first-come, first-served basis to as many fans as possible from 8 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. At that time, all fans in attendance will be directed to seats for an on-field tribute that will begin at 1 p.m.

Additional information will be made public as details are finalized.

Funeral services and burial will be private and held early next week.

Uniform Patches

Beginning tomorrow, players will wear “HK” uniform patches for the rest of the season. The black circular “HK” patch will be located on the front of the jersey in the area of the heart.

Friday night

The Phillies return home on Friday night to play San Diego at 7:05. The Phillies will also pay tribute to Harry prior to the game. Fans are urged to arrive early. More details will be forthcoming.

  3. Phillies Phan SC Says:

I hope to see some of you there as the wife and I are driving up.

  4. King Says:

Somebody was saying that in the previous post.

  5. Justin Says:

i wish i could go to either the friday or saturday game but i’m stuck working both days.

  6. Chuck P Says:

I have tickets to Friday’s game but I previously told my wife that I couldn’t go and that she should invite a friend… I’m pretty pissed that I told her that. I coach my son’s tee ball team and we have our first practice so I told her to invite a friend before all of this happened.

im sure the players did everything but didnt care about harry. everyone loved him

  9. GREENINIL Says:

Are the HK patches available for purchase anywhere, preferably on the internet for an out of town fan (suburban Chicago) like me

  10. Fran Says:

Yeah I would love to get one of those patches

  11. bob Says:

Ok I am guessing that over 45,000 will likely show up to this memorial. Does anyone foresee a huge projector being placed outside CBP?

  12. Gavin Says:

I’d like to see them go with silence during the first inning of Fridays home game on the TV. I think that would be a nice tribute.

I’ve also seen the suggestion that the Phillies add the song High Hopes be sung somewhere during Phillies home games from here on out. I personally would love that.

Has it been discussed on here about Harry’s replacement next year? Personally I’d like to see them bring in Todd Kalas, ala Chip coming in to replace Harry Carey. I think it would be awkward to bring in anyone else

  13. KevO Says:

Honestly Gavin, i don’t think they need anymore people to broadcast the game, they already have Wheels, Sarge, and Tom McCarthy. Todd also does games for the Rays.

  14. PtheBLovesTheBallGirls Says:

I would really love if they would name the field after Harry the K… Harry Kalas Field at Citizens Bank Park.

What would it take to get that to happen?

  15. Gavin Says:

Kevo, I agree. Maybe drop a few of those guys like Sarge….

  16. KevO Says:

Also, they could maybe bring Larry Anderson back in..

  17. Dboy Says:

chris wheeler sucks. and he spent the last few years treating harry like a retard. i’m glad i live on the other side of the country so i don’t have to hear “wheels” .

Are there any Phila Phillies fan clubs near Lexington South Carolina?
