   This is why I hate Jimmy Rollins. Sorry guys just cant like him. Why dont you string together a few good games first. Maybe bat over .200 and then go from there. You are right now a big mouth two year fluke. Chase eats you and your rapping career alive.

   i highly doubt he hits .400 or above at his pace. He’s shown meager, bleak signs of having any sort-of hope at a consistent swing

   If he really does hit .400avg does it mean that he didn’t care about all those times when he hit like .265 those years its like he only wants to turn it on when hes ready and motivated to.

   Maybe he’s been reading The Secret and, once he speaks the stat, it becomes reality. Whatever crystal ball he’s gazing into, I don’t need it to say .400 – just give me .290 and some ribbies. My magic eightball says: ‘ask again later’.

   How can you say he isn’t showing signs of getting out of the slump? He went 3-5 2 nights ago and 1 for 4 last night. In the last 7 days, although he is only hitting 240, he has improved, hitting 2 doubles, and scoring 4 runs. He’s not all of the way out yet, he is clearly showing signs of pulling it together.

   His 3-5 night included two hits that had more to do with luck than the ball being well hit. He’s still slumping, he’s not hitting .400 in May, I’ll put money on it.

    C’mon guys, he’s off to a bad start and he knows it. So he’s psyching himself up and putting it out there in public view. Sure it would be better if he just hit .300 consistently and set the table, but we do need him to produce. I don’t care if this is the way it happens or not, as long as it gets him going.

    Rollins probably will have a good May–he is too solid of a hitter to be around 200–Even though he has begun to pick it up a bit, he still looks uncomfortable at the plate–I wish he would go to a lighter bat and just concentrate on making contact

    Evan, I wish I would heave bet you everytime before that Jimmy made a prediction. I’d be a rich man right now. Will he hit .400 in May? Probably not. But the 3-5 night, may be some luck, but, isn’t that how someone wins in a game that even hall of famers fail 6.5 out of 10 times? Sometimes you need luck to get rolling.

    Well, this is how he focuses on his own play. Normally, youd say keep your mouth shut and play baseball. But he says this to help himself focus on his play. Its wierd, but thats how he motivates himself.

    i think jimmy will be just find. his WBC was amazing, and he will come around. This offense as a whole, although early, is bashing. In other news, i am going to the game friday and i am a little worried that the new york fans coming down are going to spread the swine flu as the majority of the outbreak up there is in queens. Think i should be worried?

    Jimmy’s a .300 hitter… right now, he’s batting .240. Logic tells you that he’s going to have to bat right around .400 to get back to his average.

    If you see a Muts fan oinking or rolling around on the concourse, shoot him… we should just quarantine the Muts fans like they do to the smokers. Herd them like cattle in gated sections of the outfield.

    Agree with Mark, Jimmy is just stoking the fire for effect. Both for Jimmy and the team, setting the bar seems to be a big motivating factor. There are enough hot bats right now to cover for Jroll’s lack of production. The hitting waxes and wanes, just Rollin’s turn at the back of the line. He’ll be fine.

    If he made easy or obvious predictions he wouldn’t be Jimmy. He predicts the near impossible and then makes it happen. Gotta love it.

    The annoying periods where this team cant hit really can be frustrating, but its far outwieghed by how ridiculous this offense can be when theyre running on all cylinders. Ibanez tomahawks a cutter in on his hands and it turns out to be an absolute bomb. Two grand slams in one game to be is as ridiculous as the two nights where they scored 20 runs in each game against st louis last year.

    This lineup has proven to be the best in recent baseball history – mainly because years worth of great offensive numbers were validated by their championship and now have continued on seamlessly into this new season. Raul Ibanez – when healthy (and he usually is because hes played a full season with no days off before) and when hes on – is as dangerous a hitter to all fields as anyone in baseball.

    I mean, I knew the guy was a good hitter and was in favor of the signing from teh get go, but I didnt think he would become an early MVP candidate right out of the gates. You can tell – even though hed never say it because hes a class act – he LOVES the change of scenery and being on a winning team. The guy is having the time of his life out there and it has quickly spread to the rest of the team. I think he has helped take the pressure off of people like Rollins and Victorino who were struggling. AND then Pedro Feliz is healthy and seeing the ball well all of a sudden…wow. I wasnt counting on him being this good again.

    Its wrong to call all Mets fans swine. Sure there are plenty of awful Mets fans, but there are some good ones there too. A rivalry is much better when you can have intelligent discourse about why one team is better than the other. Its awful when it turns into drivel like the shit that comes from Yankees/Sox fans.

    His quote, after taking extra-batting practice was, “I feel good, ready to rock and roll, I’m ready to hit .400 for the next month.”

    and of course here in Negadelphia, fans will call that a prediction, and then say how much they hate him because he’s cocky… etc

    Why is anyone concerned with the exact words out of his mouth?.. or the exact number he hits in May?

    He got three hits the other, but someone called it luck..

    He’s putting the bat on the ball, hitting it right at guys.. its not like he’s overmatched at the plate..

    His defense is still there, and his hitting will come around.. the more we worry about nothing, the bigger a deal it becomes.. we’re winning, and his hitting, as it improves, will only help the team more!

    Evan, I might agree that it is possible, however unlikely, that a good Mets fan exists. However, please understand that the “drivel” and the morally ambigious drunken fan fights are exactly what makes a rivalry transcend the game on the field. So lighten up and talk some trash.

    Muck the Fets. And all of their infected fans.

    Also, Jimmy will come out of it. He isn’t going to hit sub .200 for the year. Doug and all the Jimmy haters will be singing his praises in about a month when Ibanez and Chase are struggling, Howard is still striking out, and Jimmy is once again carrying this team. Does anybody remember last summer? I can’t wait for another 4-2 Phils win where Jimmy goes 4-5, with a HR, double, 3 rbis, 2 runs scored, and 2 stolen bases. Keep the faith.

    Also, has anybody seen our pitching staff?

    Anyone else tired of Jimmy’s shit? Call me old school but i like my players silent, like Chase Utley. He has more to brag about than just about anybody in the majors, yet he isn’t in the media every damn week. Just play ball and shutup.

    Exactly, willy. But there will always be a few that say that Jimmy is our most important player no matter what. I like him, but not nearly as much as others like Utley. And we you say that, then you are rascist for bashing Jimmy.

    Let me be clear, he is one of the best SS in baseball…but a .276 career hitter simply cannot be our team MVP. He is the leader (face of the franchise if you want), but definitely not the single best overall player on the team.

    The difference between a .275 hitter and a .300 hitter is like one hit per week.. and is the reason that Utley hit’s 3rd, not Rollins..

    He didn’t call everyone in the media over and make bold predictions.. he had a guy interviewing him and said like he felt like his swing was good and he was ready to get going “rock and roll” …

    Just play ball and shut up….. and don’t bother giving Rollins any credit for getting his team fired-up by calling them the Team to Beat.. and saying they’d make the playoffs..

    If people don’t love him, thats fine.. but people bashing Rollins need to realize how good he is.. and there aren’t many SS i’d take over him in the game

    Why would anyone get mad at Jimmy for making a statement like that? It’s just Jimmy being Jimmy, he’s a self-motivator, and at times likes to give HIMSELF a kick in the behind. If it motivates the rest of the team in the process, well, that’s just great. He’s not hurting anyone by saying it, so let it be, and we can all kiss his booty when he accomplishes his goals.

    I didn’t “fact check” my post. He’s a career .276 hitter… a few points off .300. In any case, he is NOT a sub-.200 hitter… that is for sure.

    Jimmy is just being himself. He’s confident and he’s always optimistic. What is the problem with that? Would you rather him come out and focus on how awful he has been? He needs to do whatever it takes to get back on track and NOBODY understands JIMMY ROLLINS like JIMMY ROLLINS.

    The guy is a stud… one of the reasons why the PHILLIES have the HIGHEST fielding percentage in the NL right now. He is usually the engine… when he gets going, this offense is going to be SCARY.

    Does anyone think that maybe some of these guys are a little jealous or upset that Ibanez is getting all the love (when this TEAM won the championship without him in 2008)?

    You may have something there, especially some of the guys who were close to Pat, I’m sure they can’t forget him as quickly as the fans. It’s great for Ibanez and he deserves the love, but it might hurt some of the players to see how “quickly they forget”.

    I highly, HIGHLY doubt that the Phillies are anything but grateful to have Raul Ibanez playing well, and helping then win games right now

    Ibanez has almost as many clutch hits in 2009 as Pat Burrell did in 2008

    Um, Don, those guys out there playing the game are actually people, who have feelings, they’re not just fantasy players or walking statistics. Of course the team is happy Raul is doing great and the fans love him, doesn’t mean they don’t miss Pat, some of them were together a long time.

    Sometimes I wonder about you….

    you know what, the players are people and some of them are smart enough to know this is a business and people get traded. Everyone know last year was Pat the Bat’s last year. I liked the guy, never thought he was as bad a fielder as everyone said, and he did well for this team and helped them win a wfs. But the players knew he would be gone, and they want to win another championship and they knew Raul is helping them do that now. It is not like Pat died he was not resigned again, something everyone knew was going to happen all year. They move one. About JRoll he is the lighting rod he says this shit so people stop talking about how many hr’s the pithcers are giving up, he takes the heat makes outrageous comments and it is fun something else to talk about. He will hit 270 again this year and carry the team for a few weeks and everyone will love him again. This is why what he said last year or two years ago wasn’t a bad thing or wrong to say, there are a lot of front runners even in here. Mostly not in here, but still, there were guys saying this team was terrible during the game Big Joe gave up all those HRs then they came back and they were saying how they love this team. that is my rant for the day sorry it was so long
    and he is to Bret pitching a shut out tonight

    jimmy is to this team what lenny dykstra was to the 93 team; their sparkplug. i dont like talkers, with the exception of jimmy, but how was this team doing before he started talking and putting the pressure on himself to produce? and now they are defending champs. keep talking jimmy, please.
