Rollins, Werth Sitting Today As Lefties Pile Up

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Sun, April 19, 2009 10:49 AM

Charlie Manuel has made his first bold lineup shake of the season, as Jimmy Rollins is sitting for Eric Bruntlett and Matt Stairs is in for Jayson Werth. The Phillies are facing right-handed rookie Josh Geer today.

The Lineup: Victorino (CF) / Bruntlett (SS) / Utley (2B) / Howard (1B) / Ibanez (LF) / Stairs (RF) / Feliz (3B) / Coste (C) / Park (SP).

    like this move.

  2. BurrGundy Says:

Good to see Charlie shake it up. One suggestion: put Dobbs in for Feliz. He needs playing time and Feliz’ back might need a rest.

  3. Martymets Says:

Wouldn’t say it’s too bold of a move to rest your staters against a kid pitching but ok. I for one am amazed ( no pun intended) at how so many Philly fans are hitting the panic button already…it’s somewhat relieving because I thought it was just the new wave of met fans, who were Yankee fans before the ‘06 season who complained so much lol

This season like the previous two is between your phils and my mets, floridas wins came against the bttomdwelling nationals and lackluster braves. They beat the mets in two close games as well but it’s not as impressive as it looks on paper. So mets and phils fans stop whinning bc it’s a long season and I promise you that the mets will be more competitive this time around

  4. Manny Says:

Good move. Shane better be ready to RUN in the outfield, though.

  5. Greg V. Says:

I hear you Manny! I love Stairs but he’s a statue in the outfield. Here’s hoping for a win!

  6. Griffin Says:

Stairs playing the outfield should be good for a few laughs (or cries). Let’s get 10 runs today and let Taschner mop up.

  7. Geoff Says:

The Phillies dont do well against pitchers theyve never seen before, and there is no reason to put matt stairs in the outfield, thats a horrible idea. Jimmy Rollins is sucking at the plate, but is he going to get better by sitting? No. I almost want the Phillies to be one run ahead today to force Madson and Lidge into the game so they can bboth get right back out there and pitch well this time.
