Dubee: Myers Needs To Locate

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Thu, May 07, 2009 11:08 AM

MyersODRich Dubee revealed in David Murphy’s notebook that he’s not pleased with the way Brett Myers is pitching:

“A lot of misses? I’d say there are way too many, yeah.”

Dubee cited that Myers has been off target from his locations during his starts; moreover, data has picked up on a drop in velocity, from the low- to mid-90s that Myers was unleashing last season, to the high 80s he’s registering this year. That drop is noticeable, and can prove all the difference between a hard-hit ball and a weakly hit ball.

Still, his problem remains location. Which seems to be his problem every season – if he can’t locate the fastball, Myers will get burned.

  1. Mrs. Myers Says:

I sure hope Brett pitches well tonight, I don’t want a beating.

  2. Don M Says:

I wrote this yesterday, and I’m guessing they’ll see it on tape.. Dubee said he’s not “on top of the baseball”.. which is all part of this problem:

“Myers starts to get himself in trouble when his body opens up to the 1st-base side, instead of throwing through home plate..

that takes all the bite off his pitches, and has them tail back over the heart of the plate..

It’s not Dubee’s fault… Myers wasn’t doing that to start the game.. I think when he starts to get tired.. his shoulders fly open and he fades towards 1st base when the throws..

They know that, they’ve drawn lines to home plate in the bullpen and made him step on the line and stuff to stay square.

What I noticed was his left foot was going towards home, his upper-half was opening towards 1st”

  3. Kevin Says:

Isn’t Moyer pitching tonight, and not Myers? I thought Moyer was going for his 250th win tonight.

  4. Manny Says:

Yea, Kevin… it’s Moyer, Hamels, Blanton…and THEN Myers

  5. Manny Says:

btw, tonight’s game will be on the MLB Network…

manny ramirez is getting a 50 game suspension, just in time for the phils series next week. it’s a shame, cause i’m going, too. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-manny-ramirez8-2009may08,0,6324894.story

  7. NYC LONG MANHOOD Says:

GET OFF THE METS MANHOOD. YOUR ALL PATHETIC. YOU WISH YOU COULD BE FROM NYC AND A METS FAN. YOUR WHOLE LIFE IS ABOUT THE METS NOT THE PHILLIES. YOU USE THE PHILLIES AS A METHOD TO FUEL YOUR INNATE LOVE FOR THE METS.

WELL I AM GOING TO THE GAME TONIGHT AND I WILL BE ABUSING ANY FILLIES FAN I SEE. NO ECEPTIONS, I DON’T CAARE IF YOUA RE WITH YOUR FAMILY, KIDS, WIFE, MOTHER ETC. YOU ARE MAKING A BIG MISTAKE IF YOU COME TO CITIFIELD AND WEAR ANY PHILLIES GEAR OR EVEN CHEER FOR THE PHILLIES. THE NYC PIMP SQUAD IS NOT PLAYING AROUND.

WE ARE SETTING THE BAR AT CITIFIELD EARLY. NO PHILLIES TRASH PLEASE.

WHY ARE POSTS ON YOUR BLOG SOLELY ABOUT THE METS?

    YOUR PATHETIC PATHHEADS.

YOU WISH YOU COULD BE ME, A RICH ITIALIAN STUD WHO GETS ANYTHING HE WANTS. I AM 6 FOOT 3 WITH 260 POUNDS OF PURE MUSCLE…..I GONNA DO DAMAGE TO THE PHILLIES FANS.

  8. Evan Says:

Manny being gone for 50 games is gonna reshape the NL west. There might actually be some competition now.

  9. MeatBalls Says:

Damn! No Manny for next weeks series against the Trolley Dodgers? I am going to Wed and Thur games. I was looking forward to some really good baseball games. I just hope all of this rotten weather is Outta Here by then.

  10. Kruks left nut Says:

Hey butt hole from NY,what r u doing on a phils blog,,,
i have never even thought of going on a mets blog,,cause they suck

  11. Manny Says:

hehe lets see what happens to the Dodgers now… I deeply dislike teams that revolve around 1 player, by the way.

Go Giants! I’m rooting for you.

  12. Don M Says:

Dodgers lineup is still REALLY nasty even without him..

Furcal, Hudson, Ethier, Kemp, Loney, Martin, Blake, … I think they still have Pierre on their bench? ..

They’ve been doing their damage without Kuroda, their opening day starter, he’s been on the DL since the 1st game

  13. Bruce Says:

    News…
“Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Manny Ramirez has reportedly tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and will be suspended 50 games by Major League Baseball.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Ramirez is expected to attribute the positive test to medication received from a doctor.

The suspension is expected to begin Thursday. If so, Ramirez won’t be eligible to return until July 3.”

Wow! Mixed emotions with that news. It’s certainly not good for baseball and fans. However, the new restictions and more severe penalties is hopefully having an effect on discouraging the use of performance enhancing drugs.

  14. Chuck P Says:

Here’s the problem… now that we have these rigid testing requirements, people are going to test positive. Some of those positive tests won’t be attributable to blatant cheating and some people will be falsely labeled cheaters. I have no doubt that someone like Manny might be on meds for personal issues… does that make him a cheater? Maybe not. However, the testing has to continue to change the culture. I stop short of judging and assuming… it is what it is. A false test means that he has to be suspended.

  15. Evan Says:

False positives are not going to happen with steroids. I would expect Manny, a guy who knows he’s going to be under scruity for steroid use, wouldn’t take a prescription that could make him test positive.

  16. Don M Says:

I’m guessing he’ll still be voted as a starter in the All-Star game??

  17. Rob Says:

Don M…However the guys surrounding Manny’s numbers are inflated. They get good pitches as no one wants to pitch to Manny. Also how much did the devil give you when you sold your soul and called Park having a good game? Just want to know as I am broke.

I just want to put this out there but…A sudden Loss of Velocity(i dont remember Myers throwing a lot of heat last year), then a ballooning of the waste band and the rest of his body. Could Myers be a past PED user?

  18. CZ Says:

Manny and JC Romero look to be in very similar situations in my opinion. Neither intended any advantage by their actions, however, a certain amount of negligence cost them 50 games. Both should have been more thorough in clearing what they were putting into their body. Its unfortunate that even doctor prescribed medication requires that much due diligence from the player but this incident should serve as an example to all of the league on that they have to be EXTRA careful.

I’ll be @ Citi Field tonight to cheer on the Phils and am so glad to see Shea gone…though that dump was another great way to make fun of the Mets!

  19. Jason B. Says:

Tim, this is the reason I told you before that Myers is much closer to 13 wins than 20. I said before the season started that Myers would have 14-15 wins and I think he may struggle t get them. I just hope he gets it together soon before the bad starting pitching catches up to them.

  20. Don M Says:

I sell my soul a lot I guess.. I just always try to be as positive as I can about this team.. and it bothers me when people slam players that they shouldn’t (Taguchi, Cairo, Jenkins).. role players aren’t going to be super stars.. your 5th starter isn’t going to be Cy Young.. It’s a team game, and our TEAM is one of the best in baseball.. and the best group in my 20+ years as a Phillies fan

I was at Friday’s game and said that Happ should get the next start..

But then with the big game last night.. pitcher’s park.. job on the line. and having just faced this lineup, the writing was on the wall for a good start by Park

  21. terry Says:

Hey Don don’t you have to go hunting today???

  22. Kruks left nut Says:

Hey,NYC,,I can’t blame a guy try’n to make a buck, but that would put a bad taste in my mouth

  23. Don Says:

yes i be a goin to the Fishin hole today

  24. Jason B Says:

I gots me a nice new Trailer today

  25. Jason B. Says:

The Real Jason B. says yup yup, Iz gonna eat me some varmit. Maybe some road kill too.

  26. Don M Says:

Dodgers lineup is HELPED by Manny in there, but they are still one of the best without him

Phillies, Dodgers, Mets, Cubs… Marlins, Reds.. all strong lineups.

Hudson and Ethier probably won’t see as many fastballs as they did hitting Before Manny, and After Manny respectively..

But Kemp, Loney, Martin. etc.. all young talents.. They’ll still be hanging around 1st place at the end of this 50 game suspension

  27. Jason B. Says:

Actually, It’s a double wide you moron, but it sure as hell beats a 10 story walk up in a crap hole like Queens NY.

  28. NYC LONG MANHOOD Says:

BAD TASTE? i LIKE HOW SEMEN TASTES. I’M A NEW YORKER, WE DRINK SEMEN LIKE IT’S WATER UP HERE. THAT’S WHY 1 IN 4 OF US HAS HERPES AND 1 IN 6 HAS AIDS.

  29. NYC LONG MANHOOD Says:

REVEAL YOURSELF YOU COWARD. tYPICAL. BE A SISSY ABOUT IT. JUST FOR THAT SOME POOR SELFLESS PHILLIES FAN IS GONNA CATCH IT REAL GOOD NOW TONIGHT BECAUSE OF YOUR COWARDLY ACT OF PRETENDING TO BE ME.

    yOU ARE A PATHETIC COWARD

  30. Geoff Says:

Ramirez is another obvious guy. Of course he was cheating in some way! Of course A-Rod has been doping since high school! DUH

They need to start putting clauses in these contracts where if you test positive for PED’s your contract CAN BE void, period AND you have to forfeit or return your signing bonuses and all perormacne incentive bonuses.

I know JC’s story and what happened and all, but Im even tempted to want to get rid of that guy when his suspension is over. Let him prove his form and then trade or release him. I dont want cheaters on my team. I dont want our pure WFC squad tainted with guys who are dishonest OR too dumb to avoid making mistakes like that.

If I were the Dodgers, I would immediately release Manny Ramirez, sue him for his bonus money and sue to avoid paying the rest of his cotnract.

Its time to start playing intense hardball with these players. There are people without jobs or food in this country startving to death by the thousands yet we allow cheaters like this to have guaranteed contrats and still get paid from it…JC should have to earn it all back with a minor league deal somewhere, same with this guy.

  31. Geoff Says:

Im tired of this in this sport. The NFL is worse, you dont even get in trouble at all basically. But baseball is still bad enough. This is disgusting.

Youve got A-Rod, Clemens, Bonds, Manny all filthy rich off of cheating. Romero makes a good living and got caught cheating. Moyer gets a bigger strike zone than everyone else, thats cheating to me – though indirectly.

Im a purist for the old school. Sure, some shady stuf happens in baseball but if you get caught then thats it, you should haev to start over and earn a new contract somewhere else.

  32. NYC LONG MANHOOD Says:

EVEN THOUGH I AM A BIG MUSCLED GUINEA ITALIAN, I LIKE IRISH PHILLY MEN. THAT’S HOW WE ROLL IN THE NYC.

  33. NYC LONG MANHOOD Says:

STOP IMPERSONATING ME, YOU MAKING ME LOOK LIKE I DON’T LOVE THE BAT AND BALLS, YOU COWARD!

  34. Kruks left nut Says:

For a while after 9-1-1 i had a love for all sports fans, did not matter ,ny,dallas, atlanta, deep down we all stood for the same thing,we all came together,,but Met fans just don’t get it,

also go too ytube sometime, thats me and the rednecks kik’n some met butt

  35. Don M Says:

If I were the Dodgers, I wouldn’t release Manny.. because their entire team has been on fire since he got there.. he’s arguably the best hitter in baseball

  36. Jason B. Says:

Wow, NYC, for a tough guy you really seem to like men a lot. Now to more important matters, I don’t think Manny was an innocent victim in this whole steroid thing. If he truly had a prescription for steroids, don’t you think in this day he would have been wise enough to go to the MLB first and explain before taking the medication? JC obviously tried to get clearence but there is so far no evidence that Manny tried. This is evident by the MLB offering Romero a deal for a shorter suspension.

  37. NYC GanGsTa PiMp General Says:

    Jason B.,

a big mistake you made. Now i HAVE your blogspot name. I can find who you are through the profile system. dumby. boy you picked the wrong crew to mess with.

kruk, u so tuff, come see me then. I will break ya face.

your all gonna find it to be a mistake. See to it. just stop now and maybe you will be spared.

  38. Don M Says:

Geoff.. really, what is your point in saying four times a day that Moyer “cheats” by getting a wide strike zone?

You’ve been saying you want him as a pitching coach (who in your opinion is only effective when he cheats).. so what would he teach the younger guys.. “Paint the corners, and pray you get them?” ..

You’ve really got to stop trying to put a bullseye on a new player every month..
Nobody cares that YOU don’t like Moyer.. he helped us make the playoffs last year by being one of our most consistent pitchers in YEARS.. but you don’t think they should have rewarded him for that..

We get it.. you don’t like him..

I challanged you a few weeks ago to pick out the player you hate most on whoever the Phillies opponent is for each series.. yet you still complain about the players on OUR roster.. on a daily basis…

Water is free, your glass doesn’t have to stay half-empty all the time

  39. Harper Says:

Guys, back in the real world, the Inquirer just reported that Danny Ozark has died. Another tough loss for the Fightin’ crew.

    http://www.philly.com/inquirer/breaking/sports_breaking/20090507_Former_Phillies_manager_Danny_Ozark_dies.html

  40. Jason B. Says:

Ok, Pimp crew or whatever you call yourselves, I was only playing around. Seriously, you came to our blog and talked smack so I was just messing with you guys. I really do not need any trouble in my life. We are all Americans and we should not be fighting with each other. Besides, I really am not a “tough guy”. I used to get smacked around in high school. lol. I honestly believe that the Mets are a good team and it will be a challenge for the Phils to take the division this year.

So, i have absolutely no problem with you or anyone of your crew members. I am sorry. Peace to you.

  41. NYC GanGsTa pIMP GENERAL Says:

    Jason B.
YOu made a big mistake, now I am really going to have to give you a hummer. After I am done being the meat in a Reyes/ Mr. Met Sandwich, I’m coming to your house where I am really going to suck you off. You messed with the wrong homo today.

  42. Kruks left nut Says:

Not me,NYC pimets,if you know so much, come see me,3rd trailer on left, the one with the tractor tires used as garden planters

  43. Chooch's Cooches Says:

MET FANS= TRAILER TRASH, NORTH JERSEY, GUIDO GREASY-ASS ITALIANs WHO THINK THEY’RE THE BEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO THE WORLD AND CAN’T ADMIT THAT THEIR TEAM CHOKES CONSISTENTLY.

  44. Jason B. Says:

Actually you moron, it is off of 295, not 195, but I thought Navy Seals would know a mundane detail like that. Alos, there is no shopping center on the street, just a bunchof houses. Google Earth it you moron and you too will see. There are no apartments either, this isn’t the filthy city of New York, we have these things called single family homes.

  45. Kruks left nut Says:

now that should put a bad taste in your mouth

  46. Jason B. Says:

    Well and eloquently put Chooch!

  47. Geoff Says:

Oh, I must have missed that comment…Obviously, for the Dodgers its Manny. Total piece of trash.

For the Mets, its Reyes….anotehr piece of trash, probably doing something cheating or illegal…Sheffield as well, also, K-Rod because leave it to the Mets to go out and sign some flamboyant primadonna like that.

Braves – Chipper. Looks like a d-bag. Washington – who cares its washington?

Florida – i dont really hate anyone on that team…mayeb wes helms is he is still in major league baseball at all.

milwaukee – prince fielder. another d-bag. automatic bean everytime he comes up. just nail him no questions asked. dont have anyone on the pirates. teh rest ill remember later

  48. Kruks left nut Says:

i think they must choke on a few other things as well

  49. NYC PiMp EnFoRceR Says:

Jason B. You are a liAr. that is not your address. Your caught in public. hahahahaha

    you coward.

  50. Chooch's Cooches Says:

Thank you, Jason. Just a friendly comment- how’s life in the second best town in SJ?

  51. Jason B. Says:

Chooch, life is good. It’s a nice town to live in, no NY trash there. Oh and Pimp Enforcer, FYI, they rezoned half of our town and changed our street numbers. try 266, Crystal Terr. I don’t want you to get lost. It is a white house. Also, for town, try Westmont. They may not have been updated yet on google maps.
Chooch, just trying to keep the peace around here but we seemed to be surrounded by filth. I’m going to the game tonight(sec. 122 for all you “Pimp Squad” members) and I see that a bunch of kindegardeners are threatening to tie our shoe laces together or something. Some sound a little on the gay side, but whatever.

  52. Kruks left nut Says:

Yeah,i think they have to drive to conn,or maine ,,whitch is pimpmastergeneral

  53. stupid PA rednecks Says:

The only reason why you dont like the mets beacuse you are jealous of NYC. so much better than your hill billy town aka Philly. New york has every thing better than Philly and just beacuse you win ONE world series doesnt make you better

  54. bob Says:

I see that the 7th grade was let out early today. You morons that are posing as Mets “fans” are a disgrace

  55. Johnny Snowden Says:

well as long as Myers can keep the ball down 2nite I think we’re good.

  56. erik Says:

nyc has everything better than philly?

phillies world series champs, mets choke habitually
eagles pound the giants out of the playoffs
oh, and we actually have pretty girls come to our games.
