Gamenight: Mets (9-12) At Phillies (11-9)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Fri, May 01, 2009 04:00 PM
New York Mets (9-12) at Philadelphia Phillies (11-9)
Mike Pelfrey (2-0, 6.32 ERA) vs. Chan Ho Park (0-0, 7.16 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia.
Weather: Light rain, 71
TV: Comcast SportsNet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
It’s time to meet the Mets.
This year’s version of the New York nine is 9-12 heading into its first series against the Phillies. They’re having starting pitching troubles, and one of the main suspects is Mike Pelfrey. The usually reliable young right-hander had trouble early in the season, but got past tendinitis and worked a nice outing against the Nationals last time out. His 6.00+ ERA isn’t strong, but it’s getting better.
The Mets also are having offensive troubles, mainly with their star, David Wright. His 27 strikeouts are unusually high for him, tied for tops in the National League. The rest of the offense is having problems staying consistent, though Carlos Beltran (league-leading .388 average) is enjoying his 2009.
The Phillies are doing fine offensively, led by Raul Ibanez and Chase Utley, each with seven home runs. Their main concern is pitching, and Chan Ho Park is one of the culprits. He had a better outing against Florida (7 IP, 4 ER), but he’s still very much on the fringe of fifth-starter-dom.
Who hits Park? In limited action, Carlos Delgado is hitting .600 against his former teammate. Who hits Pelfrey? Greg Dobbs is .500 in eight career at bats, including a home run.
We’re at the Grey Lodge in Northeast Philly for this one. Come and join us. Tweet us if you want to come.
Your gamenight beer: Here is Sly Fox’s Phoenix Pale Ale, a nice fit for tonight since the Phils need to rise above the Mets, like a phoenix … from Arizona. It’s a $3 deal at Grey Lodge tonight, so grab this American pale ale and scarf down a chicken cheese steak (what else?) with it.
Go Phillies!

May 1st, 2009 at 4:48 pm
Chan Ho is due for a good outing. Let’s increase DW’s strikeout total to at least 30 by the end of the game.

Now I’m stokes for this series to start.Although no sightings of The Johan or your boy Cole, but its still Mets/Phillies.I’ll just go to Grays Papaya on 86 and Lex and enjoy the recession special (2 dogs and a drink) because I am working and can’t partake in Pheonix Ale.Oh well plenty of Bud at home afterward.

May 1st, 2009 at 5:11 pm
I predict the Phillies win 7-5 and Park notches his first win as a Phillie.
May 1st, 2009 at 5:24 pm
Phillies > Mets
May 1st, 2009 at 6:17 pm
[...] last 10. On other side of the token, the Mets sit at 9-12 and losers of 3 out of their last 7. Their starting pitching has been downright dismal after Johan Santana and their lineup has just as many question marks in the early going. Not to [...]
May 1st, 2009 at 7:05 pm
alright it’s time, let’s go Phils!
May 1st, 2009 at 7:05 pm
Lets Play Ball……LETS GO METS!
May 1st, 2009 at 7:06 pm
Go Phillies!!!
May 1st, 2009 at 7:10 pm
Park sucks
May 1st, 2009 at 7:11 pm
wow
May 1st, 2009 at 7:11 pm
WTG Murph!
May 1st, 2009 at 7:11 pm
Can we put Happ in the rotation already? Park is beyond terrible.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:11 pm
Time for Chan Ho to get out of here.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:12 pm
Geez… nice start, Ho. Can’t throw a single strike to Alex Cora and then give up a HR to Murphy.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:13 pm
Here we go again.
I have been saying for some time that Park belongs in the bullpen
May 1st, 2009 at 7:13 pm
He’s throwing EVERYTHING up and to the right.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:13 pm
This is probably Park’s last chance, and it ain’t lookin’ good.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:13 pm
ugh Park
May 1st, 2009 at 7:15 pm
Throw a goddamn strike! At least do it for Korea!!
May 1st, 2009 at 7:15 pm
Yeah Happ is looking mighty good right now…
May 1st, 2009 at 7:15 pm
we shouldn’t have signed Park
May 1st, 2009 at 7:16 pm
Looks like maybe Condrey is in line for a promotion. I think we found our new long man.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:16 pm
part of me thinks we need to start looking at the coaching…..
I mean not Manual but Dubee and how he is preparing his staff, so far they all suck top to bottom.. the starting group is
May 1st, 2009 at 7:16 pm
3 walks and a HR so far terrible
May 1st, 2009 at 7:16 pm
ditto on what Manny said
May 1st, 2009 at 7:17 pm
take him out now before he gives up like 8 runs
May 1st, 2009 at 7:17 pm
How many balls in a row can he throw??? Good God…
May 1st, 2009 at 7:17 pm
give the job to happ now.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:17 pm
Here is the problem you asked Happ to be a pen guy and now they will ask him to move back into a rotation role, he won’t be successful. Anyone who knows baseball that it is totally different prep for each.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:18 pm
nice DP, now let’s score!
May 1st, 2009 at 7:18 pm
wooooooooo!! Lucky Ho
May 1st, 2009 at 7:20 pm
A world series champ, putting out that slop Park stinks and never was anything please stop putting him out there.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:20 pm
I hate when this staff puts this great offense behind the eight ball like that, especially against the mets
Lets get some hits!!!!
May 1st, 2009 at 7:21 pm
I really hate how they’re messing around with Happ. If Chan Ho keeps screwing up today, that’s it… he should go take his spot in the rotation.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:23 pm
Well JRoll forgot to check his calendar…..
It is May buddy time to pony up toher prediction!
May 1st, 2009 at 7:24 pm
Yeah Manny we are on the same page with that…..
Stop jerking a talent around for a hasbeen
May 1st, 2009 at 7:26 pm
…especially if the hasbeen is SUCKING
May 1st, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Park and Cairo need to leave
May 1st, 2009 at 7:27 pm
Pelfrey’s pitches don’t look too good, either… We need to get him now.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:30 pm
nice hit Howard
May 1st, 2009 at 7:30 pm
so does coste
Many problem is our entire rotation has been sucking outside one outing by Myers, one by Moyer and 2 halves by Hamels
May 1st, 2009 at 7:30 pm
Nice hit Howard!!
May 1st, 2009 at 7:30 pm
Park isn’t a hasbeen…he’s a neverwas!!! Seriously, when has Chan Ho Park ever been feared by any team??
May 1st, 2009 at 7:32 pm
When have 75% of the MLB pitchers been feared????
May 1st, 2009 at 7:33 pm
Someone explain why Werth is backing up HOward in the 5 whole?
Why is Feliz not in that spot I think he has shown it would be most beneficial!!
So frustrating
May 1st, 2009 at 7:34 pm
Besides Hamels, who do you fear on the phils pitching staff? Ditto the Mets, besides Santana, who do you fear? Give me a break with Park, its 2 runs in the first inning, calm down
May 1st, 2009 at 7:35 pm
The only one on our staff feared is Hamels when healthy and Myers by his wife 2 years ago…. other than that our staff is horrible
May 1st, 2009 at 7:35 pm
You think teams didnt fear facing Randy Johnson in his prime?
May 1st, 2009 at 7:35 pm
Jeff of Nova……..Because if an opposing team brings in a LH for Utley, Howard & Ibanez, Werth kills LH so the other team would have to make a decision whether to keep him in or bring in a RH
May 1st, 2009 at 7:35 pm
You just named 1 pitcher
May 1st, 2009 at 7:36 pm
Kevo…
Its because he has not shown anyone… this year in regular season that he belongs in the rotation.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:36 pm
oh boy Park
May 1st, 2009 at 7:37 pm
Park I have been saying for a while should not be on this team. He is horrible. Plus why we are at it get rid of sam, the third base coach. Utley should of scored. this guy is bad. park needs to go
May 1st, 2009 at 7:37 pm
I understand that with Werth… but Feliz has been hot, you have to play with your strengths when they are on
May 1st, 2009 at 7:37 pm
OH WOW! Almost gave up a HR to PELFREY!!!
May 1st, 2009 at 7:37 pm
better have run support in this one
May 1st, 2009 at 7:38 pm
so we’ll be losing 4-0 now
May 1st, 2009 at 7:38 pm
Im pretty sure he out pitched Happ in spring training. I dont know why you think Happ is the next Steve Carlton, hes not that good, hes decent, but give me a break, your talking about your 5th! starter.
Now im not saying Park is Roger Clemens, but hes a decent 5th starter
May 1st, 2009 at 7:38 pm
This is why everyone is up in arms!! Pelfrey with the RBI:(
May 1st, 2009 at 7:39 pm
we better score next inning
May 1st, 2009 at 7:39 pm
Happ in the rotation. Park is banished to long relief.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:40 pm
Yes, Greg, thats good advice, I think I’ll make the switch.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:40 pm
Park isn’t decent, send Cairo and him to the Nationals
May 1st, 2009 at 7:41 pm
but I have all of Korea watching me, please please let me start more!
May 1st, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Keve, how boutRoger Clemens, Don Drysdale, Bob Gibson…and besides, when I said fear I was actually referring to the fear that “wow this guy is a good pitcher, we’re gonna have to be on top of our game tonite…Park certainly doesnt do that, and never did..
May 1st, 2009 at 7:41 pm
and you guys thought I was bad, hahaha
May 1st, 2009 at 7:42 pm
HAHAHA PARK = PATHETIC
LETS GO METS!
May 1st, 2009 at 7:42 pm
God Manual get this asshole on the next plane to his country…
May 1st, 2009 at 7:42 pm
What if this was Myers or Hamels down 4-0? What would all of yous be bitching about?
May 1st, 2009 at 7:42 pm
Who’s the World Champions?
May 1st, 2009 at 7:42 pm
Kevo
I agree with you on the spring training situation and no Happ is truly not the answer. But when you have a supposed strong staff… you inject with young talent… I.e. Carrasco but he is not ready. Happ was the next best thing. Park has not been a consistent starter for some time.
This group came in the season with not having competition at positions in the spring, majority of the team was secure in their job.. Competition is what makes players play their best. I mean last year perfect example was Werth fighting for the outfield spot
May 1st, 2009 at 7:43 pm
Kevo, Happ > Park.
Park did have a better spring training… but after 1 full month we need to make adjustments. I can’t see how after this outing, they could leave him for 1 or 2 more starts (unless somehow he becomes Cole Hamels and pitches 5 shutout innings).
May 1st, 2009 at 7:43 pm
Phuck the Mets! Phuck the Mets!
May 1st, 2009 at 7:44 pm
PHUCK THE PHILS U DA MAN PHUCK THE PHILLIES LETS GO METS!!!!
May 1st, 2009 at 7:44 pm
pinch hit Park with Cairo
May 1st, 2009 at 7:45 pm
SECOND RATE CITY FULL OF SCUM PHUCK THE PHILLIES
May 1st, 2009 at 7:45 pm
Because the one with the short-leash is Park (not Blanton, not Moyer, not Myers, not Hamels). Park and Happ fought for this really hard and whoever won that fight for the fifth spot HAD to start the season strong.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:45 pm
Let’s just get Park the hell out of there and put Happ in…
May 1st, 2009 at 7:45 pm
why are Mets fans here? this is a Phillies blog . . .
May 1st, 2009 at 7:46 pm
GW…..none of them pitch in the league anymore….Ill name pitchers that are feared in the league……..Santana, Hamels, Lincecum, Halladay, Sabathia, Burnett, Beckett, Lester, Garza, Haren, Zambrano, Greinke, Lirano, Felix Hernandez…all i can think of at the moment, but thats less then 15% of the starters in the league, now stop saying “strike fear” lol
May 1st, 2009 at 7:47 pm
Phuck the…oh nevermind
May 1st, 2009 at 7:47 pm
Park better pitch well this inning
May 1st, 2009 at 7:47 pm
Chan Ho Parkinglot is due to give up another 2 runs in the 3rd
May 1st, 2009 at 7:48 pm
park doesnt give the team a chance to win
May 1st, 2009 at 7:48 pm
“why are Mets fans here? this is a Phillies blog . . .” Maybe for the same reason that Phillie fans are on the Mets blog?
May 1st, 2009 at 7:50 pm
well that’s silly
May 1st, 2009 at 7:51 pm
I agree, i thought Happ should of been in the rotation rather then Park, because Park has a lot of expierence in the Bullpen. But its not like Park didn’t win the job. Happ might be a little bit better, but hes not like second coming of Jesus. The Mets come in here every year and run house at CBP, i said it earlier, and ill say it again, they are not intimidated at all about playing here, its a hitter friendly park and they take advantage of it very soundly
May 1st, 2009 at 7:51 pm
Chan Ho Parkinglot?
Worst call of the day
May 1st, 2009 at 7:52 pm
Kevo,
I’m not saying we need every pitcher in our rotation to be Steve Carlton…but I am saying that we need a guy who can consistently get people out.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:52 pm
Happ gave us 3 or 4 really solid starts last year. This year, Park’s given us none. I think it wouldn’t hurt to give Happ a chance in the rotation because Park’s really not proving that he should stay there.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:53 pm
Park: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
May 1st, 2009 at 7:53 pm
I LOVE IT
May 1st, 2009 at 7:53 pm
this is gonna be a long game until Park is gone
May 1st, 2009 at 7:53 pm
Oh i completely agree, but WTF is charlie and dubee doing? What makes them think hes going to settle down? Take him the F out
May 1st, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Cmon Happ, warm up!
May 1st, 2009 at 7:55 pm
4-0 Mets, 3rd inning, 2 men on, 0 outs, and no one up in the bullpen yet?
May 1st, 2009 at 7:56 pm
You’d think that in case Hamels couldn’t start on Monday, Happ would get that start. But Chan Ho is gonna make Happ come into this game, potentially ruining our Plan B if Cole isn’t ready.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:56 pm
Hamels is going to pitch, hes fine
May 1st, 2009 at 7:56 pm
Maybe that’s why Happ isn’t warming up already??
May 1st, 2009 at 7:57 pm
Where was that!
May 1st, 2009 at 7:58 pm
Coste is horrible
May 1st, 2009 at 7:58 pm
what a load of horseshit
he was out at home
May 1st, 2009 at 7:59 pm
Why isn’t Marson playing? I though Coste would be the catcher for Cole and Moyer (while Ruiz is gone)
May 1st, 2009 at 7:59 pm
The throw beat him, the tag didn’t.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:00 pm
anyone know why this bush leaguer is still in the city
May 1st, 2009 at 8:00 pm
He was safe as shit, what are you smoking?
May 1st, 2009 at 8:00 pm
haha he was safe stop crying
May 1st, 2009 at 8:00 pm
Park’s body language is horrible. It’s like he doesn’t even wanna pitch.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:02 pm
Beltran learned to slide! lol 5-0 Amazins
May 1st, 2009 at 8:02 pm
How do you expect him to look? He gave up 5 ER in 3 innings, and hes getting booed off the field by philly fans?
May 1st, 2009 at 8:02 pm
The Mets are obviously cheating
obviously
May 1st, 2009 at 8:03 pm
He’s supposed to be a professional and at least try to keep his composure, don’t you think.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:03 pm
Hey guys, remember me? The entire Phils staff is pitching like me last September. Noooo. I think they are actually worse. Not that I’m any good, but I’ll give you that 4ER, 6-7IP that you all would KILL for from your #4-5 guys.
Maybe Myers will trade Park for a hot-dog eater.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:04 pm
It’s similar to what Kyle Kendrick would do when he’s getting hit.
NOT GOOD.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:04 pm
lol supposed too, how would you feel if you let down a whole city against their hated rival? I feel you Manny, but put yourself in his shoes..
May 1st, 2009 at 8:06 pm
I think all these Mets fans need to find their own blog
May 1st, 2009 at 8:07 pm
If I put my self in his shoes… those shoes would be halfway to Korea by now to catch up with the rest of me that is already there
May 1st, 2009 at 8:07 pm
Its only the 3rd inning, its not over yet.But youse guys put Park against the Amazins?I thought the Phils had better pitching than that.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:07 pm
I’d feel REALLY BAD… but you can’t go around showing it when you’re the guy on the mound. Not only is it unprofessional, but it fires up the opposing team.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:07 pm
What mets fans?
May 1st, 2009 at 8:08 pm
Nova, thats a long walk
May 1st, 2009 at 8:09 pm
more like a run and swim LOL
May 1st, 2009 at 8:09 pm
Okay Howard put us on the board
May 1st, 2009 at 8:10 pm
If Wheels says hes throwing a “heavy sinker” one more god damn time, hes throwing a 94 MPH fastball in on their hands, its not sinking
May 1st, 2009 at 8:12 pm
Walk him please… and then RAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLL
May 1st, 2009 at 8:13 pm
just a hit maybe a “ground ball with eyes!”
May 1st, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Man, Utley is an on base machine this year.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:14 pm
You cant give that to him
May 1st, 2009 at 8:14 pm
RAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!
May 1st, 2009 at 8:15 pm

May 1st, 2009 at 8:15 pm
Good hit, Raul.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:15 pm
Cmon Feliz!!!!
May 1st, 2009 at 8:16 pm
Anyone saw Raul’s stats with Bases loaded? Something like .380
May 1st, 2009 at 8:16 pm
now we need 3 more than we put Happ in and it would be like starting the game over
May 1st, 2009 at 8:17 pm
RAUUUUUUUUUUUL is such a beast. Best acquisition ever
May 1st, 2009 at 8:17 pm
FELIZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 1st, 2009 at 8:17 pm
Feliz!!! great hit. 5-3
May 1st, 2009 at 8:18 pm
oh que feliz!!
Pete happy strikes again
May 1st, 2009 at 8:18 pm
Good hitting by both Raul and Feliz. Let’s get another base hit.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:18 pm
Thats what I’m talkin about Pedro
May 1st, 2009 at 8:18 pm
Cmon Coste!!
May 1st, 2009 at 8:18 pm
..or not.. you are sucking, I forgot
May 1st, 2009 at 8:19 pm
damn coste. looks like its time for marson
May 1st, 2009 at 8:19 pm
can we have a scoreless inning now for Park?
May 1st, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Feliz is been such a pleasant suprise with how well he has started
Best acquisition ever the one they do on monday, bring up Majewski and send Park packing:0
May 1st, 2009 at 8:20 pm
I love Coste, but yeah, suckin’ this year so far. I looked though, everyone knocks him, but he hit better than Ruiz last year. HOWEVER, it was Ruiz when it counted…
May 1st, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Does Coste even go in the batting cage man looks like a deer in headlights up there
May 1st, 2009 at 8:21 pm
Alright Chan, don’t waste that offense.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:21 pm
With the emergence of Ibanez,I am wondering when youse guys start asking aloud “Pat WHO”?
May 1st, 2009 at 8:21 pm
Hit and Run on a 3-1 count with 2 outs, genius
May 1st, 2009 at 8:22 pm
Jeff,
I have been saying about Feliz for a year now! He has been so underappreciated… He is the best third baseman at Philly since Mike Schmidt in my opinion. No one is as good as #20, but Feliz is great!
May 1st, 2009 at 8:23 pm
Grrrumpy Miner – Pat who? Kidding, I liked Pat, but… this was a great signing.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Jeff, think that will actually happen?
May 1st, 2009 at 8:25 pm
One thing I’ve noticed… we all know how Feliz is good in clutch situations, with players in scoring position… now with Raul batting and getting on base so often, Pedro tends to usually have someone in scoring position.. and he hits!
May 1st, 2009 at 8:26 pm
oo a 1-2-3 inning for Park
May 1st, 2009 at 8:26 pm
Keith… no unfortunately
Grumpy Miner… will never say Pat who? other than joking… When your team wins Championships, you always remember key components!
May 1st, 2009 at 8:26 pm
I am not blaming Park alone, comparatively he is one of their better ones…
May 1st, 2009 at 8:26 pm
I hope we make K-rod blow at least one save in this series.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:28 pm
aww I wanted to see Cairo bat here
May 1st, 2009 at 8:29 pm
Mets need to step it up a notch.Chin Ho is still in it.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:30 pm
at least Chan Ho made Pelfrey throw pitches
May 1st, 2009 at 8:31 pm
nice start Jimmy
May 1st, 2009 at 8:34 pm
To invest the money they have in this team is like to me buying, a five million dollar house on the beach, and putting walmart furniture in it, he stinks, please put happ out there.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Amen to that mikemike
May 1st, 2009 at 8:34 pm
alright mikemike….
May 1st, 2009 at 8:35 pm
wtf Rollins, he’s done that too many times this year.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:36 pm
It’s deja vu all over again
May 1st, 2009 at 8:37 pm
Had Rollins not realized that Pelfrey was paying attention to him? seriously, what a bonehead play
May 1st, 2009 at 8:38 pm
I am loving this budding rivalry so far.Any fan who sees these games as no big deal needs to re-evaluate themselves as a fan.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:38 pm
Beltran way to start it…
May 1st, 2009 at 8:40 pm
6-3 darn it
May 1st, 2009 at 8:41 pm
ugh Park, guess two scoreless innings was too much
May 1st, 2009 at 8:41 pm
I still say Mets fans need their own blog – if one could write perhaps they could do it.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:42 pm
I’d give anything to see a good old 1-0 game, I’m sick of all these runs, especially when it’s the other team!
May 1st, 2009 at 8:42 pm
SC – my thoughts exactly
May 1st, 2009 at 8:43 pm
phuck the Mets, phuck the Mets
May 1st, 2009 at 8:44 pm
o wow nice catch Ibanez
May 1st, 2009 at 8:44 pm
Wow.. RAUUUUUUUUL,… NICE catch!
May 1st, 2009 at 8:44 pm
They do have their own blog but there is Philthy fans in there too..just returning the favor
May 1st, 2009 at 8:44 pm
Putz had a blown save the other night, I am not worried yet. Remember Agust 26, 2008; World Champs…
GO RAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUL
May 1st, 2009 at 8:46 pm
And you all criticize Coste
May 1st, 2009 at 8:47 pm
Perfect throw Coste!
May 1st, 2009 at 8:47 pm
not me, I only criticize Park and Cairo
May 1st, 2009 at 8:47 pm
Coste still cant hit worth a damn
May 1st, 2009 at 8:48 pm
He still stinks
May 1st, 2009 at 8:48 pm
That catch by Ibañez and that throw by Coste saved Ho’s from a couple more runs…
May 1st, 2009 at 8:49 pm
YES PARK IS GONE!
May 1st, 2009 at 8:50 pm
finally
May 1st, 2009 at 8:52 pm
I am not disagreeing about Coste, just making a point LOL
May 1st, 2009 at 8:52 pm
7-3?
May 1st, 2009 at 8:53 pm
Tch, whatever happened to the Chan Ho Park that I liked so much in spring training? The spark I saw in him just hasn’t been there.
Not that Durbin is showing much spark… yikes.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:53 pm
they better not start Park on Wednesday
May 1st, 2009 at 8:54 pm
Sadly, Park’s numbers are not as bad as some…. Durbin seems to be overworked…
May 1st, 2009 at 8:55 pm
Charlie looks a little frazzled…
May 1st, 2009 at 8:56 pm
You know what’s terrifying and funny at the same time? Adam Eaton has actually been pitching somewhat better than Park. Yikes.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:58 pm
Charlie’s wondering who took off with his pitching staff and replaced them with guys who can’t get anyone out.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:59 pm
Bout time they got chan ho garbage outta there.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:59 pm
CT – I just looked and you are right. JEEEEEEPERS – Still though, did we really want to try that?
Being in SC, this is the first time since HK passed that I could hear Philly programming on MLB Extra Innings (I hear Scott and LA on XM all the time). I think T-Mac is doing OK… We can never forget or replace HK, but under the circumstances I am impressed.
May 1st, 2009 at 9:03 pm
well that was a crappy 5th
May 1st, 2009 at 9:04 pm
Its far from over too, the bats will come alive ….just hope the pitching and the bats mesh when we really need it…still early in the season….and Cole will miss the next start!!!!!Ouch
May 1st, 2009 at 9:05 pm
Remember August 26, 2008. Coste won it in the 12th. We were down 7-1 in the top of the sixth
May 1st, 2009 at 9:06 pm
Coles not going to miss his next start, what are you talking about?
May 1st, 2009 at 9:07 pm
Yeah I’m calling for Chan Ho-Park to get the boot! I had enough! I don’t even want him in the pen! I want him off the team! Majewski and Koplove are better relievers. Happ, Kendrick, Carrasco, C. Durbin, J.D DURBIN, I don’t care! Get somebody else in the 5 spot!
May 1st, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Greg V., I won’t go that far, but I do think Happ should get his next start
May 1st, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Beltran is NOT who we want on now…
May 1st, 2009 at 9:10 pm
I read that wrong, we went into the 5th down 7-1, 7-5 in the top of the 6th
Sorry, I guess I was the one who cannot read or write that time. Foot in mouth disease
May 1st, 2009 at 9:12 pm
Feliz….
May 1st, 2009 at 9:15 pm
And FELIZ AGAIN
May 1st, 2009 at 9:15 pm
Pete Happy
May 1st, 2009 at 9:16 pm
And be beat it out this time…
May 1st, 2009 at 9:16 pm
come on Dobbs!
May 1st, 2009 at 9:17 pm
7-5 now?
May 1st, 2009 at 9:18 pm
if only
May 1st, 2009 at 9:19 pm
Geez, swung at what could have been ball 4 (he swung at balls 2-3 earlier)
May 1st, 2009 at 9:19 pm
Ok, now if there was EVER a time Jimmy needs to break out, this is it 7-6?
May 1st, 2009 at 9:20 pm
okay let’s please have a big inning
May 1st, 2009 at 9:20 pm
Nice Dobbs. He needed that.
May 1st, 2009 at 9:20 pm
Oh good, Mets bullpen…
May 1st, 2009 at 9:21 pm
so Park sucked today, how was he good in spring training?
May 1st, 2009 at 9:24 pm
wtf, screwed that up
May 1st, 2009 at 9:24 pm
CRAP – Dobbs should have just bitten the bullet there
May 1st, 2009 at 9:24 pm
Coste should’ve went home., but damn dobbs.
May 1st, 2009 at 9:24 pm
dammit Coste, what a waste
May 1st, 2009 at 9:25 pm
That kind of reminded me of that opening scene in Little Big League when all 3 players slide into the same base.
May 1st, 2009 at 9:25 pm
Still talking a bout park?
May 1st, 2009 at 9:26 pm
blah
May 1st, 2009 at 9:26 pm
weather
May 1st, 2009 at 9:27 pm
wow what a cluster phuck inning
May 1st, 2009 at 9:27 pm
Mlb.com is really sucking tonight. ugh… I didn’t see what happened there but maybe it was for the best. stranded more again!!
May 1st, 2009 at 9:29 pm
I said it early this season. This Phillies team will not sniff the playoffs the way they are. Last year things lined up great. Not this year. Rollins isnt helping. Dobbs cant pinch hit. Coste sucks. Blanton, Park, and Myers are just plain terrible. We will lose again Oli on Saturday then get our ass kicked by the Cardinals.
May 1st, 2009 at 9:32 pm
yo doug, cry me a river
May 1st, 2009 at 9:33 pm
yea Doug, how lame
May 1st, 2009 at 9:33 pm
yea kevo your a geek.
May 1st, 2009 at 9:35 pm
I’m hungry for some Phillies runs
May 1st, 2009 at 9:35 pm
good one
May 1st, 2009 at 9:36 pm
I can understand complaints about the pitching, but seriously doug the Phils won it all with Rollins, Dobbs, and Coster playing the same roles they have now for the entire season.
The Phils have shown that catcher isn’t an offensive position for them, Coste does well enough. Rollins will be ok and Dobbs just hasn’t had enough at bats.
WTF Happ!!!!!!!
May 1st, 2009 at 9:36 pm
Ugly walk…..
May 1st, 2009 at 9:36 pm
why did we just walk a bullpen pitcher?
May 1st, 2009 at 9:36 pm
Wheres everyone sucking off happ? He just walked a pitcher whose 0-6 in his career..
May 1st, 2009 at 9:36 pm
Walk the pitcher? Wow. 8 walks. Keep up the good work pitchers!
May 1st, 2009 at 9:36 pm
How do you walk the opposing RELIEF pitcher?
May 1st, 2009 at 9:37 pm
yum yum yum, I want some Phillies runs
May 1st, 2009 at 9:37 pm
Go Happ!
May 1st, 2009 at 9:37 pm
At least the walk didn’t hurt
May 1st, 2009 at 9:39 pm
Look, I agree things are not going the way of the Phillies and I brought it up twice now in theis blog – August 26. We have time, but this is painful. Remember, they did the same thing last year in JUNE, but I am hoping they get it together…
May 1st, 2009 at 9:39 pm
why couldn’t we sign Derek Lowe?
May 1st, 2009 at 9:40 pm
CHASE!!
May 1st, 2009 at 9:40 pm
UTLEY!!!
Utley: 8
Ibanez: 7
Howard: 4
May 1st, 2009 at 9:40 pm
Your ballpark is so small its funny
May 1st, 2009 at 9:41 pm
Now Utley hit a HR, think about it – had they ran it right, Victorino would have sac flied and Utley would have smacked a 3-run hence 7-7. Darned shame
May 1st, 2009 at 9:41 pm
Wow that swing didn’t look like Utley’s HR stroke. Good time to put some life in the team. Utley is my hero.
May 1st, 2009 at 9:41 pm
chase utley, you seriously are the man. too bad there was no one on base :-/
May 1st, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Murphys homerun too….should have been an out
May 1st, 2009 at 9:43 pm
Keith, I subscribe to the BELIEF that Lowe would not have made the difference. I still laugh though that CC is also having a bad year with 171 million in the bank… I think Lowe would have been good, but I am not sure what we could have done differently…
May 1st, 2009 at 9:44 pm
Werth has been quite disappointing so far
May 1st, 2009 at 9:44 pm
At least the Fish lost…
May 1st, 2009 at 9:45 pm
Kevo, you know until September, none of them go hot at the same time LOL
May 1st, 2009 at 9:45 pm
Lol its true, but hes swinging at some bullspit that they throw up there to him
May 1st, 2009 at 9:50 pm
Anyone else notice Utley is killing left handers? He’s 10/19 with 3 homeruns and 6 walks. His OPS is an unreal 1.473 before his last plate appearance which was an HR. His stats are a bit infalted cause he hasn’t had many at bats against lefties, but still… WTF, he shouldn’t be hitting lefties better than righties.
May 1st, 2009 at 9:51 pm
Utley is a machine
May 1st, 2009 at 9:51 pm
Evan, I think it’s cause Chase likes swinging inside and so many lefties pitch him inside.
May 1st, 2009 at 9:55 pm
Rememeber K-Rod and Putz can be beaten, we just have not seen them, so while I remain optimistic, it is going to be tough on night #1
May 1st, 2009 at 9:56 pm
Coste needs to get on base, then we can see Stairs.
May 1st, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Evan, my thoughts exactly
May 1st, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Cairo? Why Charlie????
May 1st, 2009 at 9:57 pm
That was ball 4
May 1st, 2009 at 9:58 pm
Well, we have the 9th
May 1st, 2009 at 10:00 pm
boo Cairo, boo
May 1st, 2009 at 10:00 pm
GOD DAMMIT. Not one man could get on base so we could get through Rollins to start the 9th at the top of the lineup.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:00 pm
K-rod vs Rollins, Vic, and Utley….OKAYYY
May 1st, 2009 at 10:07 pm
First test for the Mets’ new closer….
Let’s do it Phillies!!
May 1st, 2009 at 10:09 pm
Wheels loves K-Rod
May 1st, 2009 at 10:09 pm
We shall see….
May 1st, 2009 at 10:10 pm
1 out; geepers
May 1st, 2009 at 10:10 pm
DAMN, Saw-ed off
May 1st, 2009 at 10:10 pm
Kevo, yes, the Nats announcers loved Victorino, now Wheels will be sending K-Rod flowers
May 1st, 2009 at 10:11 pm
Lol k-rod is pumped for this, gotta love it if your a mets fan
May 1st, 2009 at 10:11 pm
1st test? What are you talking about? He has 4 saves…haha
May 1st, 2009 at 10:11 pm
Crap K-Rod’s on tonight
May 1st, 2009 at 10:11 pm
Vic looks lost up there against him
May 1st, 2009 at 10:12 pm
I am not worried about the season overall, we dropped ever damn game to the mets last year and LOOK WHO WAS IN SECOND LOL
May 1st, 2009 at 10:12 pm
dammnnn, hes money tonight
May 1st, 2009 at 10:13 pm
For two years in a row – OOOOOOOPPPPPPPSSSSSS
May 1st, 2009 at 10:14 pm
A game full of poor pitching, baserunning mistakes and poor at bats. This was a really tough one to watch. Expect them to struggle against the lefty starter tomorrow, too.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:14 pm
First real test against the Phillies
May 1st, 2009 at 10:14 pm
And both with a good lead on Sept. 10 – oh darn; we shall suck it up for now.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:14 pm
wahhhhh
May 1st, 2009 at 10:14 pm
AGH – yes, remember this game would possibly have been tied had Dobbs stayed put. We did this one to ourselves…
May 1st, 2009 at 10:16 pm
I still like Doug’s Acronym for METS
My Entire Team Sucks
May 1st, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Stop with the What ifs Phils Phan SC, you dont know what would of happened if Dobbs didnt run into and out, the whole pitch sequence would of changed
May 1st, 2009 at 10:16 pm
7-6 perhaps???????????????????????????
May 1st, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Chase = smart
May 1st, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Chase needs to go first pitch
May 1st, 2009 at 10:17 pm
On the bright side, I gain more respect for Utley everyday. What a consummate pro. He will take 2 strikes when he knows they need baserunners. He’ll stand in there and get hit by pitches instead of bailing out. He runs the bases hard, hits behind runners and is one of the best defensive 2Bs in the game. And he goes yard every once and awhile, too.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:17 pm
Who would you rather have…Johan or Hamels?
May 1st, 2009 at 10:17 pm
why? his run means nothing
May 1st, 2009 at 10:17 pm
What happened to his goggles?
May 1st, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Howard is going to connect on one, i feel it.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Utley is a great hitter…i agree
May 1st, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Johan
May 1st, 2009 at 10:19 pm
Cole Hamels, he will be fine – Johan cannot be good forever and one day Jerry will use him one too many times when the team melts down
May 1st, 2009 at 10:19 pm
Walk him…walk him!! And then leave it up to Werth for his redemption
May 1st, 2009 at 10:19 pm
K-Rod shuts the door while the Putz gets back on track and shakes off the huccup vs the Anchovies Wednesday.Mets still have a problems with scoring insurance runs and leaving runners on base.Although the Phils line-up is top notch,it just wasn’t their night.Oh well lets do this again tomorrow.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:19 pm
What a fitting end.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:19 pm
AGHHHHH why swing at that horrible pitch!!
May 1st, 2009 at 10:19 pm
Johan doesn’t get hurt or miss a start, ill take him all day
May 1st, 2009 at 10:20 pm
Oh well, Mets will melt down, let them have it…
May 1st, 2009 at 10:20 pm
well we better win the next two and no more Park
May 1st, 2009 at 10:21 pm
Trying to tie a 3-run game with a 2-run homer is a losing proposition.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:21 pm
Grrrumpy Miner – as I always say every time, you are one of the few Mets fans I like. Thank you…
May 1st, 2009 at 10:22 pm
I like Cole a lot, but I’d much rather have Johan. Even with the age difference factored in–I really don’t think it’s very close.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:23 pm
I agree, Grumpy Miner is a upstanding Mets fan, hahaha, i was impressed with K-Rod, looked nasty, you could see it in his eyes he wasn’t going to give up this one
May 1st, 2009 at 10:32 pm
The coaches need to sti down and reevaluate what they are doing. I think they are making poor personel decisions. Dubee needs to get this group together.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:36 pm
Thanx for that SC,but I can’t help but wonder why the Phils didn’t push hard for Lowe (As the Mets didn’t either) and now he’s floundering with the braves. They are a good team……..BUT Smoltz and maddux aren’t there to save them and Larry Jones is no longer in his prime. The only bat I fear on the Braves is McCann.Thats it with the Braves, but tonight the Phils had chances too as the Mets did,but the Mets played hard as well but the Dubya is all that matters to me.We’ll see ya tomorrow and let the chips fall where they may…..ESP with Perez pitching.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:37 pm
Tonight’s game was pleasant to watch, for once.
How did Utley hit that home run off Feliciano? Is it your bandbox stadium that allowed the mentioned hit to become a home run, or was it Utley’s perspicacity and raw strength? I’ll reserve judgment for the sake of you belligerent Phillies fans.
We’ll see how Ollie performs tomorrow, seeing as his role as a starting pitcher depends on it. Given his control issues this year, don’t be surprised if Howard gets one thrown at his head. Not because Ollie particularly dislikes Howard, but because he believes that the strike zone constantly (and magically) moves.
How about Fuentes blowing that save for the Angels? Good thinking, Omar. THAT’S what youc all perspicacity.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:38 pm
I rather have Cole. When it’s time for the postseason, he is the best pitcher in baseball. Too bad some Mets fans can only think about the regular season these days.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:40 pm
Manny,
Your punch lines are not witty, but mere jabs that seem facetious. One world series ring in over twenty years has made you that arrogant? You must be a child.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:40 pm
K rod looked a bit scary tonight. It’s amazing, but Chase is hitting lefties pretty well. That homer tonight was a tough pitch to hit, but he got the bat head on the ball. That is nice to see. Dubee’s got to have a man to man with his entire staff and get their heads right. I wouldn’t mind seeing Happ start. Park just looks bad, real bad.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Game 7 of the World Series… who would you rather have on the mound?
Cole Hamels.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:50 pm
Btw… Nice job by the bullpen.. 0 ER
Chan Ho’s line: 4.2 IP, 7 ER, 6 BB, 1 SO (doesn’t look at ALL like the Ho from Spring Training)
May 1st, 2009 at 10:53 pm
It is one game of three, lets hope JB pitches like he can tomorrow, Ollie is a guy we can hit. Usually I am not one to say who should pitch and who should not but I have to agree it is time to move Park to the Pen, Give JA a shot and see if we need to pull of some kind of trade for a starter
May 1st, 2009 at 11:04 pm
In Ollies career at CBP the phils are batting .198.
Ollie is a guy the Phillies can walk on if they are disciplined.. not that they light up.
May 2nd, 2009 at 12:29 am
Mets are going to sweep. we will rock moyer tomorrow. sheff will play and knock some homers in the crap ballpark. then maine sunday. lets go mets
May 2nd, 2009 at 12:29 am
Rough game to be at tonight espically since I was with two Mets fans. I also had high hopes for Chan Ho after I saw the spring that he had but I now believe that enough may be enough. Happ deserves atleast a chance at this point. The coming back in the 7th+ innings just is not going to work for the entire season. Seeing that next Wednesdays game is against the Mets at CitiField just happens to be what would be Chan Ho’s next start the timing seems perfect.
May 2nd, 2009 at 12:30 am
By the way….. Oli will throw a no no
May 2nd, 2009 at 12:35 am
By the way….. Oli has swine.
May 2nd, 2009 at 7:41 am
For the first time in years, the phillies are sitting on some top good looking prospect, the bad part is they aren’t ready yet, the good news is that we have the players other teams want and can get top pitchinging in return. Last year when Peavy and CC were out there we didn’t have the higher level guys. When CC was mention no one would put Donald or Carrasco in the Class like Price or Wieters, Hanson, Heywood, But now you have guys in higher levels who are coveted, Michael Taylor a monster, who comes from stanford and has got rid of the Stanford swing, which Mayberry can’t shake, Brown our top prospect going into the season, and Four top pitchers Knapp, Stutes,Worley, Drabek, and a top reliever in Swimmer the parts are there but do you wait another year for Taylor and Drabek or make the move?
May 2nd, 2009 at 8:38 am
Grrrumpy Miner – Perez has been less than dazzling this year. Jamie Moyer, while capable and one of my favorite Phillies, has also been a bit incosistent. If Moyer and Perez are on, it will be a long night. If they are both off, the ball will fly everywhere.
May 2nd, 2009 at 9:45 am
I wonder which Perez will show up today. The one that’s been up and down his entire career, or the one that was 1-0 with an 0.35 ERA in four starts against the Phillies in 2008, allowing just one run in 26 innings?
May 2nd, 2009 at 11:05 am
KB – Mets always seem to do well against the Phillies admittedly. Not sure what the Phightin’s problems are!
