The Disturbing Trend Continues

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Sun, May 10, 2009 09:56 AM

Not much else today, but here are some statistics:

Opposing home runs, MLB:
T1. Jamie Moyer, PHI – 10
T1. Brett Myers, PHI – 10
3. Jon Lester, BOS – 9
T4. Joe Blanton, PHI – 8

After Saturday, Joe Blanton’s ERA (6.82) is third worst in baseball. Jamie Moyer is in first (among those qualifying). Though they lowered the ERA slightly, the Phillies still carry one of the worst team numbers in baseball (5.22). With just nine quality starts, the Phillies are way back in last place in that category, with the Brewers doubling that number. The 53 home runs they’ve allowed are way back in last, despite playing the fewest games in baseball.

At this point, it’s only suitable to say this is all disturbing.

Who’s starting today, the pitching order’s all screwed up now?

  2. Fran Says:

    not good at all

  3. Greg V. Says:

I agree with what you said the other day that the time is now to put Happ in the rotation. I believe he is the best candidate to ease the bleeding a bit. Of course the problem is that it is debatable which starter should get the axe. Park, Blanton, and Moyer are all equally struggling and Myers isn’t far above them. But the facts are the facts. Somebody has to take a back seat so Happ can start.

Myers today. Then Park, Moyer, Hamels, Blanton.

  5. Georgie Says:

Thanks Tim, I suspected as much….

  6. gregg Says:

Blanton has surrendered only eight taters.

  7. Tim Malcolm Says:

Edited. I wrote this up right after yesterday’s game, so wasn’t thinking the stats updated. They already had.

  8. nyhater Says:

The home runs aren’t what bother me, after all we do play in a bandbox. That ugly ERA though is killing me.

  9. Manny Says:

I think we need to reshuffle our rotation… it’s a mess… there’s no order…Can’t we fix it so that Myers starts after Hamels, then Moyer and Blanton, and Chan Ho after that (as the fifth guy)… It’s messy.. could this be a factor that helps explain why our starting pitchers are sucking?
