All Star Balloting: Rollins Drops To Second
Posted by Amanda Orr, Mon, June 22, 2009 03:17 PM
Jimmy Rollins has dropped to second place in the all star balloting behind Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez. Rollins trails by only 154,000 votes.
Chase Utley is no longer the National League’s overall leader. Albert Pujols has the most votes with 2,934,794, edging Utley who has 2,922,796. Utley continues to lead all second baseman, leading Orlando Hudson by about a million votes.
Also Raul Ibanez continues to lead all NL outfielders with 2,465,539 votes.
Other Phillies are still in the picture:
- First base: Ryan Howard remains second about a million votes behind Pujols.
- Third base: Pedro Feliz remains in fourth place about 700,000 votes behind leader David Wright.
- Catcher: Carlos Ruiz drops from fourth place to fifth place.
- Outfield: Shane Victorino remains in fifth place and Jayson Werth remains in ninth place. Victorino is only about 400,000 votes behind third outfielder Carlos Beltran.

I’m all about loading the AS Team up with Phillies, but at this point, I cannot root for Rollins to win with a clear conscience. I just can’t.
June 22nd, 2009 at 4:39 pm
there is no way jimmy should be anywhere near the allstar game this year.
June 22nd, 2009 at 4:43 pm
Hopefully Jimmy will not attend the All Star game. He is charismatic but no baseball player should make as many outs at bat as he does. Jimmy would already be back to the sixth position again, but Charlie move him to bat first too quickly, and Charlie had to wait until he fell back into his old bad habits of this season or get out of his funk. Charlie will move him out of the lead off now.
June 22nd, 2009 at 4:44 pm
Rollins should be sitting for his own team, never mind starting for the NL All Stars
June 22nd, 2009 at 6:04 pm
I think we all know that Hanley Ramirez should be the starting shortstop at the all star game. But after that, I’d take Rollins over any other shortstop in the NL – even with his struggles at the plate this year.
He’s still the best defensive SS around.
June 22nd, 2009 at 6:18 pm
per Jayson Stark
Condrey to the DL Escolona back up
June 22nd, 2009 at 6:20 pm
Not good times in the land of Amazin….Carlos Beltran is NOW on the DL.
June 22nd, 2009 at 6:59 pm
Does Rollins really deserve to go to the All Star game? Sorry, no. I think Marc H has it correct. Bench him. True he is still the best defensive SS, but not even hitting .220. But really should Ramirez be starting? Ramirez has less at bats and a lower average than Tejada, and both are ok in the field. I dont think Ramirez should be starting anyway. Rollins needs a good sit down at this point.

Also, Grrummpy Miner, thanks for the good news.
June 22nd, 2009 at 7:18 pm
Good News? lol…what weakens you makes you stronger. Now its gut check time.
June 22nd, 2009 at 7:26 pm
We still have Santana and K-Rod, they will carry us to 2009 WAC. Wagner will be back for the setup, Delgado will return for a September run. We must win this year; Let’s go Mets
June 22nd, 2009 at 7:55 pm
delgado wagner, aren’t they the loser who help them fold the last two years. I must give it to the mets , they are ignorant but loyal
June 22nd, 2009 at 8:03 pm
Loyalty is good; Drinking the Kool-aid is another story
June 22nd, 2009 at 8:26 pm
Soon we will be in first. We are beating the Cardinals and we will be a game back. Tomorrow, Tampa beets Philthadelphia and we sweep Cardinals. We then will polish the division and do what ou could not – take first and hold on to it until next April World Champions. No other team is hurt more than us and we are still beeting everyone. This is grate! Lets go mets
June 22nd, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Where do Mets fans see their team as World Championship material? Beltran just went on the DL, Reyes is hurt, Delgado is hurt and inconsistent when healthy, Santana is either worn out or hurt because his velocity is down which makes his changeup easier to hit, the pen is weaker now than it was in April, and nobody outside of K-Rod and Wright have shown any consistency all year.
The Phillies just went 1-8 during the last homestand and the Mets could only gain two games. Neither team is even close to being perfect, but the Phillies are far more likely to pull away than the Mets are. They have more talent and more pieces to move to accquire an impact player than the Mets do.
June 22nd, 2009 at 9:02 pm
Beets? ou? Beeting? Grate?
That’s about par for a Muts fan.
June 23rd, 2009 at 1:27 am
“That’s about par for a Muts fan.”
says the guy who spells fan with a “ph” and still uses the term muts. this is a blog, not an english paper. who cares if people do or don’t spell right. let’s talk about baseball, not spelling.
June 23rd, 2009 at 2:16 am
As a Mets fan…I used the words to descxribe the Phils as Phlounders,Pheebles,Pheigners and Sillies….NOW After 2008 I use one word for the Phillies, and thats RESPECT.Most of us Amazin fans can hate the Phillies all they want,BUT They are the TOP DOGS until someone takes them to the beach and kicks sand in their face. Now Phillies fans,I am not making fun of your team so don’t look at it as such. Its just my way of saying to the fellow Amazins fans…WAKE UP,this is the cold reality….They won and we didn’t.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:21 am
Gee Dan and Eli, just 3 days ago, it was the Mets being in first Sunday, now its soon? What happened? Also, The Mets may sweep the Cards if they continue to get BS calls like they did in the 9th.
