All-Star Balloting: Utley Leads NL, Ibanez 3rd Overall
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Mon, June 15, 2009 12:29 PM
Chase Utley has overtaken Albert Pujols for the overall lead in National League All-Star voting. And hot on their trail? Raul Ibanez.
Ibanez has taken the lead in the outfield with 1,897,905 votes, good for third overall. He leads Ryan Braun by more than 200,000 votes.
Utley leads Orlando Hudson in second baseman voting by more than 1,300,000 votes. That’s completely insurmountable; Utley will start at second base for the fourth consecutive year.
Meanwhile, other Phillies are making climbs toward the top:
- First base: Ryan Howard remains in second, some 1,000,000 votes behind Pujols.
- Third base: Pedro Feliz keeps fourth place. He’s 400,000 votes behind leader David Wright.
- Shortstop: Jimmy Rollins still leads shortstops, but is only 80,000 votes ahead of Hanley Ramirez.
- Catcher: Carlos Ruiz moves to fourth place, a doable 200,000 votes behind leader Yadier Molina.
- Outfield: Shane Victorino is in fifth place, just 200,000 or so votes behind third-place votegetter Carlos Beltran. And Jayson Werth is now in ninth place, about 300,000 votes behind Victorino.

If I could put aside my bias for Phillies players and select those who are having the BEST season in the NL, it would read:
1B: Pujols
2B: Utley
3B: Wright
SS: Ramirez
C : Molina
OF: Beltran
OF: Braun
OF: Ibanez
Now that was not hard…was it?
June 15th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
and I would have Pedro Feliz Ryan Howard as first off bench along with Christian Guzman
June 15th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
Rollins doesn’t deserve SS votes, unless we’re making up for 2 years ago. Also, it should be Molina’s brother in SF at Catcher. I like Bruce’s lineup.
June 15th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
Nothin much to do on this Monday. No phillie games. Two MLB Games today:
- Brewers at Indians
- Giants at Angels
Have both games on tv for me tonight. Maybe watch them tonight.
Anyways no NHL, NBA and NFL. Its baseball season but only two games today nothing related with NL East. However, Nats manager Acta might be fired and NHL hears ruling for Phoenix. Bet we’ll have some news stories by the time Sportscentre comes on in the evening.

RAUUUUUUUUUUUUL
June 15th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
Since Rollins really doesn’t deserve an All-Star berth, I’m putting aside homerism and voting Ramirez for SS.
June 15th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
I keep writing in burnlett, my fingers hurt.
June 15th, 2009 at 4:39 pm
Utley and Ibanez will start and Charlie might select Madson for the bullpen. That’s pretty much all there is to say about the All-Star selections.

I think Carrasco is pitching in Durham for the Pigs tonight. Don’t know, but might be on channel 69 for those whi are in that market? Or does 69 only cover the home games?
June 15th, 2009 at 5:29 pm
I am going to put chooch in because he’s a heck of a ball player.

June 15th, 2009 at 6:05 pm
thank god that bum Manny Ramirez is sliding down the rankings… He shouldn’t even be on the ballot…
At least RAUUUUUUUUUUUUUL is third in the votes… that’s great…
June 15th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
Ramirez can’t field for shit. J-Roll isn’t hot right now, but at least he can field.
June 15th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
OK I am actually busy as shit at work right now, but for some reason this just hit me.
I know it is for home field for the series, but would you really want Charlie to pick any of our pull pen to pitch in the All Star game, non of our starters should play anyway, but if Cole would have had a few more good starts would you want him to pitch in the All-Star game, I say no way, especially the pen they are so over worked now shouldn’t they just take a week off
June 15th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
Hell, given how the Phillies have played on the road, I’d want him to select Brad Lidge and throw the d@#$ game.
June 15th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
Good point shag beta sigma delta, I won’t throw anyone from our pen in the game!
June 15th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
Greinke, Cain should be two starters for the All-Star game… and Hoffman is looking like the closer….
