Many scouts had Bastardo pegged as a reliver... a short fireballer with good movement. He hasn't been able to muster enough confidence to throw his secondary pitches for strikes and that's what is holding him back.

We might want to stay away from Arbuckle... I'm sure that he would love to pull a fast one on the Phillies.

Taylor and Brown are both really good... both are off limits. Brown is supremely athletic and Taylor is sneaky athletic. Brown is probably a better all around baseball player but Taylor has better power. You gotta remember that Brown is a few years younger than Taylor, too.

I attended the Reading-Trenton game in Trenton on Sunday just to see Taylor. He hit a line drive homer to left that was reminiscent of Schmidt's homers-- a line drive bolt that was almost imperceptible to the naked eye. The next time up, he hit a line drive double down the third base line that the Trenton 3rd baseman had the good fortune to miss. If he had caught it, he would have corkscrewed into the ground like one of the characters in the old Bugs Bunny movies. The best part? Taylor has great bat control and simple doesn’t swing and miss all that often. He can hit the ball hard without over swinging.

If Reuben trades him for some Kyle Loshe rental type to fill a starting rotation hole (See Jason Marquis, Eric Beddard), I am seriously contemplating a suit seeking injunctive relief. Taylor's right handed bat in the middle of the Phillies sea of left handed power will be a thing of beauty.

We should have seen a double pay combo of Franco and Samuel flanked by Sandberg at third and a gracefully aging Schmidt at first. We were robbed of that treat. We need to beg Reuben not to take this one away from us as well.

Apparently he was scouting Lou Marson. I read a rumors about Dobbs to Seattle for Miguel Batista (hopefully as a reliver) - and I just shudder to think.

I dont think theyre going to rent someone, it will be someone under contract next season. The guys that are rentals arent as good as the other guys. The free agent starting pitching market wotn be that deep really and it will be a year of inflated deals compared to last year despite the depression.

Id love to get a hold of Cliff Lee, but given the demands for him I doubt hell even get traded. Gil Meche could be ok, and if the White Sox realize they arent making the playoffs Mark Buerhle is there - and i would NOT want Contreras really. Interesting article I read said that Rollins is basically gone after 2010.

Bastardo had the appearance of a bullpen guy. His fastball is good enough that he could get by with 2 pitches in the pen.

I saw Taylor in Trenton this weekend. He was a man among boys. He hit a home run over a 50 foot wall in left and smashed the ball the other times at bat. He has the potential to be special. If he is traded, I hope they get a very solid player in return.
