Philadelphia Phillies (36-31) at Tampa Bay Rays (37-34)
Jamie Moyer (4-6, 6.35 ERA) vs. David Price (1-1, 3.46 ERA)
Time: 7:08 p.m at Tropicana Field
Weather: Dome
TV:Comcast Sportsnet

The Phillies road trip starts with a World Series rematch against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Phillies look to turn around their struggles on the road where they are a Major League best 23-9. They will turn to Jamie Moyer tonight.
Moyer struggled in his last outing, allowing six earned runs in six innings. However, in Game 3 of the World Series, Moyer had some success against the young Rays’ lineup. He allowed five hits, three runs, and struck out five in 6.1 innings.
Moyer will be opposed by the Rays’ best prospect, David Price. Price started the year in the minors, mainly for arbitration reasons. In his last start, Price allowed five earned runs in seven innings against the Colorado Rockies. In two relief appearances in the World Series, Price gave up two runs, one earned, in 3.1 innings.
Moyer will also see a familiar face, Pat Burrell. The Phillies better hope he doesn’t crush the Phillies like he crushed the New York Mets throughout his career.
Hopefully all the offense comes from the Phillies lineup, which will include Ryan Howard as the designated hitter. In addition to Howard, the starting lineup will include Chris Coste at first base. John Mayberry Jr. will be playing left.
Yo
ur Gameday Beer: Tonight’s beer is Holy Mackerel’s Special Golden Ale…as in “Holy Mackerel, the Phillies need a win!” This strong golden Belgian-style ale is brewed on the east coast of Florida in Fort Lauderdale. It was the winner of the Sam Adams sponsored World Homebrew Contest and weighs in at a hefty 8.5% ABV. Our friends at Barely Dine recommend a toasted Italian sandwich loaded with salami, prosciutto, provolone and Italian hot peppers. -By Brian

David Price is thankful that the Beard is not in the starting lineup.
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:07 pm
Coste at 1st base is interesting . . .
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:22 pm
damn, that toasted Italian sandwich sounds awesome right now!
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:27 pm
As my girl likes to say “the Beard is weird!”. Why in God’s name is Coste playing 1st. A little help here?

Coste played everywhere in the infield in the minors and gets that extra right handed bat in the line-up. Might come in handy if the Phils actually feel like hitting tonight.
If anyone here (and would assume this applies to no-one) hasn’t read Coste’s autobiography get hold of it, that’s unless you hate the guy in which don’t read because you can’t help but want to see him only play for the Phils.
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:36 pm
probably because howard just got out of the hospital and they didnt want him to play the field and bat
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:49 pm
NJ…Why wouldn’t you just DH Coste and play Howard at 1B? Also, what do you know about Joe Savery. Is he a prospect now? Is he a “crafty lefty” or a “stuff” pitcher. I heard he doesn’t have much velocity.

Manuel feels it’ll be easier on Howard if he only DHs tonight. I agree. Coste has a lot of experience at 1B actually, as noted above. He’ll be alright over there.
Our bigger concern should be Moyer going tonight. I’m nervous for him. It’ll be nice to see Pat the Bat again on TV.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:01 pm
manuel orignally had coste dhing but changed his mind.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:01 pm
patty b playing for the team he beat in the world series last year is still kind of weird to me…
anyway, jimmy is batting leadoff again – ahhhhh!
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:01 pm
To Dipsy~ Howard remarked..”“Am I 100 percent? No,” Howard said before Tuesday’s game. “But I’m a lot better. 75-80 percent. Right now it’s mostly congestion.”
Common sense dictates that the manager’s concern for Howard’s health would be to use him as a DH without the need of further exertion of playing ON the field. Howard wants to play and fortunately DH assignment is available.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:05 pm
Ok, I mean, whatever. Fine, if Coste can field/
Amanda, when is Tim comin back? I got an email in to him.

June 23rd, 2009 at 7:15 pm
Alright Chase!
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:16 pm
On the road again… just can’t wait to get on the road again…
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:17 pm
If that’s 75-80 percent, I’ll take it!!!
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:17 pm
3-0 Phillies, solid double for Howard!
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:18 pm
We need AL East teams and St. Louis to win tonight except for TB here to build some games on the NL East. Good Job Howard. 3-0 Phillies with 0 outs and howard on 2nd.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:18 pm
Ok guys, we got a game with the (Devil) Rays tonight. And that only means one thing. Bad news for the (Devil) Rays!
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:18 pm
good start by the phillies and I love how the rays fans desert after they start to go down like pre last year.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:20 pm
looks like a good start chase and the big guy doubling, and JRoll got on I do not care how, that is what a lead off guy does, get on, lets score 8 in the first
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:20 pm
3 straight hits woo
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:20 pm
Am I the only person who fully expects the Phils to go 6-3 maybe 7-2 on this road trip?
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:20 pm
Whee!
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:21 pm
Yes Jayson nice single, the bats are out tonight
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:21 pm
@Morris: from your mouth to their bats!
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:21 pm
If the Tropicana Dome was the Phillies stadium, I would desert on the team pretty quickly too. It makes the Vet look like Fenway.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:22 pm
I am stuck at work again dvr ing the game at home and watching the little dots on mlb.com looks like pete is happy about those high fast balls
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:23 pm
First out of the night.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:23 pm
The Rays need a new home park agreeded but come on even the marlins attendece wasnt this pathetic in 2004 and thats not even a mlb pak.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:24 pm
MAYBERRY!!!!!!!!
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:24 pm
lets see the Kid Mayberry do something now would be nice, Werth steal of second would be nice
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:24 pm
I was about to say, “I like that Mayberry…” Whoo hoo!
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:24 pm
Dammit! I meant to call that and got distracted.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:24 pm
Feliz had 2-0 count but swung at some high pitches and in the end strikes out.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:25 pm
HOLY CRAP! MAYBERRY!!!!!!!!
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:25 pm
Phil thine horn with oil and go
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:25 pm
way to go JR I think this kid is for real they should keep him up when Raul gets back we might have found our bench bat, the men in red love the road dont they
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:26 pm
one more hit so JRoll can lead off again in the second
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:26 pm
I’ll tell you how pathetic Tropicana Field is. I have never been there for a baseball game. But I have been there for a hockey game.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:27 pm
Ah well. They got around, and TB will have a hard time making up for 6 runs in the first!
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:27 pm
Now if they score 6 in every inning, we might have enough run support for Moyer…
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:28 pm
Thank God for Mayberry.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:28 pm
oh well 8 batters in the first is a good thing, nice start, now I got to have faith in Moyer to get it done tonight 3 runs in 7 innings would be nice, the old man has got the lead lets hold it and score 10 more runs for him, just in case
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:28 pm
Yeah great start but we got Moyer on the mound.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:28 pm
Price: 1IP, 4H, 6R, 5ER, 1BB, 1K, 1HR, 9 batters faced, 40 pitches (30strikes, 10balls)
In one inning, Price’s ERA goes from 3.46 to 5.00.
Moyer just needs to pitch a solid/ok game.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:29 pm
i guess all the phillies needed was a road game to get the offense going again, cmon moyer!!
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:29 pm
I am an idiot forgot about the DH bad fan bad fan, 9 batters in the first and JRoll leading off in the second, good inning for the boys
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:30 pm
I am sorry but I love Jamie 80 mph fastball it is a hoot watching him on MLB.com one out
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:31 pm
@Shag: Yeah, the big guy is DHing tonight. Fresh out of the hospital, not ready to bat *and* field yet.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:31 pm
Coste playing first base?
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:32 pm
dam jamie throw strikes you have a 6-0 lead, walks will kill you,
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:32 pm
The 80mph fastball is no big deal; check out his 50 mph changeup.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:32 pm
hopefully moyer can atleast throw a quality start
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:32 pm
tracey it is 70 according to MLB.com
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:33 pm

June 23rd, 2009 at 7:35 pm
Im so happy that they look like their righting the ship! Maybe CBP is cursed now? Hopefully we don’t end up like the cubs
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:36 pm
just really hope the Phillies sweep the Blue Jays in toronto and shut out Barajas and Rolen, especially Barajas.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:36 pm
Oh… so close…
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:36 pm
aww almost Jimmy
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:37 pm
quick 2 outs here for the Phillies in the 2nd. Cmon Chase!!
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:38 pm
God I was waiting for this team to explode for some runs…
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:38 pm
S’okay. We don’t need any more runs; we just need to contain the Rays.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:38 pm
Ok, seriously, why can’t the Phils have a start like that at home? Oh well, not going to complain.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:38 pm
I hope we dont just score 6
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:38 pm
You heard it here first. The curse at CBP is due to the fans throwing back opposing teams homeruns. That is what happens when you emulate the fans of the most cursed franchise in sports.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:39 pm
After a 40 pitch and 9 batter faced 1st, Price throws 9 pitches for 3 outs in the 2nd.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:42 pm
Is it me or does it seem like Mayberry rips it when he starts? The 2 times he pinched hit he couldnt get a hit but he rips it when he starts every time! Do you think he might challenge Werth for the job? He proved he had the arm
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:43 pm
Pat’s looking a little tubby. Or is that Rays uniform just not very flattering?
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:43 pm
Thank goodness the Phillies did not resign Burrell.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:46 pm
Pat Burrell- .240 avg, 1 hr and 18 rbi’s
RAUUUUUUUULLLL!!!!!!!- .312 avg, 22 hr and 59 rbi’s
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:47 pm
I don’t like seeing Pat play against the Phils.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:52 pm
Oh well, there goes the no-hitter.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:53 pm
Karma- Marlins and Mets losing and Nationals playing the redsox with more redsox fans then Nationals hahaha
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:53 pm
http://www.theonion.com/content/news/double_booked_tropicana_field
Still my favorite article about the World Series last year.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:56 pm
Aw… that was almost AWESOME!
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:57 pm
We don’t need to badmouth the Mets when the Mets fans aren’t here being jerks. We’re better than that.
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:58 pm
YES! Still a shutout
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:58 pm
Not bad mouthing just saying Karma since they have been on here the last week saying they will be in first by today!
June 23rd, 2009 at 7:59 pm
B.J. Upton is a very welcome sight against the Phillies.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:02 pm
hehehe. This is familiar. Are we off to another 6-run inning?
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:03 pm
alright Mayberry and Coste plus Tampa’s errors!
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:03 pm
Nice baserunning by Mayberry. He spotted the bobble very well.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:05 pm
Freaking J-out
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:06 pm
woo another run, 8-0!
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:06 pm

June 23rd, 2009 at 8:07 pm

June 23rd, 2009 at 8:07 pm

June 23rd, 2009 at 8:07 pm
Oh… wow… Phillies up 10-0!!!
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:08 pm
The Phillies don’t seem to want to pass up any opportunities tonight.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:08 pm
wowoo MLB.com sucks looks like a single by vic now chase in play run(s) HR for Chase or a double what i can not contain the excitment
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:08 pm

June 23rd, 2009 at 8:09 pm
Can the Phils hit against Price every night?
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:10 pm
Boy are we making up for poor play. Hopefully Moyer can cruise a little tonight. Give our bullpen a rest. Hopefully the Mets lose and we get that game back..
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:10 pm
nice job Chase hopfully this gets us back on track opposite of last year 20-2 drubbing of the cards then lose 6 straight this year blast Rays after losing 6 straight and we get on a roll
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:11 pm
wow phillies have woken up! no more games at the bank!
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:12 pm
Moyer only 37 pitches through 3 hope he can keep this up and go 7 or 8 maybe, just hoping and we can even bring in Trashner for the ninth
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:12 pm
Yeah, Moyer was less than 40 pitches in three innings. He could easily go 7 or 8.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:13 pm
@Shag: Great minds think alike!
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:13 pm
I am soooooo stupid getting ahead of myself such a dam idiot, lets get through the 4 inning without giving up a run, think shag you idiot think
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Lets go Phils Mets still suck and wish they had a team
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:14 pm
Hmn. Oops.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:15 pm
Moyer will not go 8 innings….because he’s Moyer.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:15 pm
3-0 braves over mets right now bottom of third man on second
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:16 pm
bunting down 10-0 either a genius or idiot what do you think
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:16 pm
Mets are in a rain delay, but I know u meant the Yankees
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:16 pm
OK, let’s keep this scoreless…
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:17 pm
shag their playing the yankees
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:18 pm
Mets will win and keep up. This is a fluke.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:19 pm
Penny with 3 straight walks, bases loaded for the Nats…. Anyone still wants him??
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:20 pm
wow can you believe Burrell has 1 home run this season??? no wonder the rays are struggling. so grateful for Rauuuuuuuuuuuuul.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:21 pm
Mets will not win they are choke artists
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:21 pm
Eli you are a putz
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:21 pm
I never wanted Penny in the first place. I want Lannan, Cliff Lee, or Harang (sp? – I always screw his name up)
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:22 pm
eli baby says it to get a rise. he knows down deep they are a bad team. not only wont they win the division but they want win the wild card.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:22 pm
This was much needed tonight. Hopefully Moyer can go 6 or 7 and give the bullpen a rest. In the 8th and 9th, it’s Taschner time!
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:22 pm
Aw rats.. I was hoping for a shutout…
Come on, Jamie, settle down.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:23 pm
AJ you idiot, it is Aaron Harang. You are a moron
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Whatever
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Moyers pitch count is soaring! He will be at about 70 after four. 10 to 1 he needs to let them hit the ball and rely on defense
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:25 pm
I expected Jamie to give up a few runs, but at this point let him go 8; if he can! Yes it is Taschner time if it a 5+ run lead!
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:25 pm
This year, it is absurd to expect 7 innings from Moyer… 6 is right about his limit. Next year, expect 5.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:26 pm
oh gees Moyer
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:26 pm
that ring looks nice
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:27 pm
Yeah, this inning is killing his count. I am re-thinking what I wrote. I am a strong Jamie Moyer supporter…
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:27 pm
He can pull his way out of this. Come on, Jamie. OLD GUYS ROCK!
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:28 pm
That’s 3 straight full counts by Moyer which have led to two walks, single and a run. Cmon Moyer. Just need that 1 out.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:28 pm
Gees – GIVE HIM A STRIKE and hope someone catches it or tags someone or something!
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:28 pm
WHEW!!!
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:29 pm
Just like that. I still say though if he has two more easy innings TRY and get him 7 then use Taschner and Esca- Es Oh hell #63
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:29 pm
once again inconsistent ump – moyer threw pitches in the same exact location that were earlier called strikes but then later weren’t called strike 3 by the ump
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:30 pm
Funny how Moyer (74pitches) has thrown more than Price(73pitches). I know it’s only one pitch but Phillies are leading 10-1. Top 5th: Werth, Feliz, Mayberry
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:30 pm
74 pitches through 4 for Moyer
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:31 pm
Feliz, Ruiz, and Rollins the only three without hits
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:31 pm
I still say we should dump Wheels and get Todd Kalas in a year or so. This way, he keeps the Kalas’ here and also have his own identity. Todd is a heck of a reporter/game caller
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Travis because most of Moyer’s are balls/fouls. Price’s were all in play somwhere.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:33 pm
Ummm Rollins was on base though
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:33 pm
Nice BB by Werth
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:33 pm
Ruiz has an RBI on a Fielder’s Choice
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Feliz is halfway to the golden sumbrero
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Eli,
You might as well start gearing up for Jets training camp or shopping for a new summer ribbed black wife-beater, because the Mets aren’t going anywhere this year.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Sumbrero
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Question: Not sure, but have the Phillies shut out anyone this year?
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Rays pen is overworked too; like ours
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:37 pm
Let me go look. I seem to remember one
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:37 pm
no shut outs yet
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:37 pm
Pedro chases one way out of the zone. Got fooled on that one. Price is done. Winston Abreu up now
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:38 pm
Eli knows how bad the Mets are. Now with no Beltran. Like Chris Maddog Russo said today. SEASON OVER. OH BABBBY
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:38 pm
my bad earlier, mets are down 1-0 base loaded for the cards on mlb.com
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:39 pm
wait nvm, Hamels had a CG shutout against the Dodgers
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:39 pm
June 4 – Dodgers 0 – Phillies 3
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:39 pm
Hamels pitched a CG
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:40 pm
Is it Blanton vs Garza tomorrow?
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:40 pm
Mets are back playing
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:40 pm
says about to resume on mets game
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:41 pm
Why can’t they score like this at CBP?
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:42 pm
Hernandez struck out Ankiel, leaving the bases loaded with cards. Eli will be back in a minute to gloat, if his mommy lets him back on after dinner.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:42 pm
oh yah hamels
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:42 pm
I am pretty sure it is Blanton but not sure about Gaza I thought he pitched on Sunday
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:43 pm
Oh well. Still leading 10-1.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:44 pm
Joe Blanton, RHP (4-3, 5.28)
Phillies (36-31) @ Matt Garza, RHP (4-5, 3.83)
Rays (37-34)
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:44 pm

June 23rd, 2009 at 8:45 pm
Friday – Happ
Saturday Hamels
Blue Jays pitchers are all on the DL, so all AAA and pen pitchers. We are not at CBP so we’ll be fine.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:46 pm
owie…
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:46 pm
ok Jamie a quick inning here please for a guy who grew up in Bucks County and played basketball against Souderton, I am pretty sure that is where you went to HS, you were 2 years ahead of me, but we could have been buddies, so one more quick inning please
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:48 pm
jamie is down to 78 with his fast ball but his change is up to 73 does that make sense
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:49 pm
ok Jamie one more out without giving up the run, throws strikes and keep the ball in the park and you will be fine
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:49 pm
nice catch Jimmy
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:49 pm
Ow, wow! What a catch!
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:49 pm
Great play in the pinball machine.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:49 pm
Completely forgot about the roof!
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:50 pm
any one tell I am bored at work, hosting a poker tounement, and dinning room is closing in 10 minutes, but I am still stuck here until poker is done, so I will boring you guys all night
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:51 pm
ok Jamie on more out please
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:52 pm
Who wants to ditch Jimmy now along with signing Pat?
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:52 pm
I like it when I have something to look forward to on my dvr when I get home at night, makes me have happy dreams
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:52 pm
They don’t need a new stadium, they need a new city.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:53 pm
Whew, dodged another bullet. Jamie’s got 88 pitches, and hasn’t had to taken any ABs, so we should be able to get at least one more inning out of him.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:53 pm
I bore them every night, and take crap from Mets fans and phan1
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:53 pm
very nicely done Pops only 84 pitches not bad give me one more inning than one more inning, how about a complete game by the old man, with 120 pitches does he have it in him
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:55 pm
I hate to nitpick, but why the hell does Moyer have 3 walks through 5 innings in a 10-1 game? He should be around 65-70 pitches, not 88 too. I think he knows that with his stuff, even a 10-0 lead isn’t safe unless he really nibbles.
It’s sad.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:56 pm
I want Jamie to do 7 ideally. Taschner and #63 to close it, and it gives us a well-rested pen.
Nice, pops will get a rest.
Now only two without hits. Thogh Jimmy scored a run, so credit there.
Jimmy for DH? HAHAHAHHA
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:57 pm
How about we let Cole hit and DH Jimmy?
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:57 pm
If he does not nibble this game becomes 10-8 really quickly.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:58 pm
Morris, you mean 18-10 if he doesn’t nibble.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:58 pm
yea so no hits from Rollins and Feliz yet
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:58 pm
Has Jimmy managed to go 0-4 today?
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:59 pm
Feliz has the chance for the golden sumbrero though. Jimmy just needs to be DHed
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:00 pm
0-4 yes
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:00 pm
y would Jimmy be DHed?
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:00 pm
STL 1 Mets 0
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:01 pm
Keith – joke
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:05 pm
Well with the DH in effect and we are through the order once, tonight you can imagine that Jimmy is batting 9th and Vic is leading off.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:05 pm
Know what is sad? Only 5 of the 10 runs are earned. I kind of feel bad for Price, but happy about the game.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:08 pm
Jimmy should be batting 8th if anything. The 9th hitter is like a secondary leadoff hitter in the AL. if jimmy’s OBS was higher 9th would be fine.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:08 pm
Oh wow… way to run it out, Mayberry!
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:08 pm
100 pitches through 6
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Just imagine that J-out is the pitcher in the lineup and it’s not that frustrating…
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:10 pm
Jamie just tipped over 100 pitches. I think we can squeeze one more inning out of him, given our 9 run lead and the fact that he hasn’t had to bat.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:10 pm
solid 6 for Moyer
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:11 pm
Hmn… apparently Moyer is hitting the showers.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:13 pm
Hopefully Moyer could finish the 7th… I doubt it will happen… but it’d be nice to see him get a shot… I can’t remember when was the last time he went 7 complete innings…
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:16 pm
Looks like the offense took the rest of the night off
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:27 pm
ok just got back and have one question why no Moyer in the 7th I mean come on it is 10-1 and he is throwing 75 mph he can’t go another inning there to protect the pen a little
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:28 pm
101 pitches he can’t throw 120 with that arm I am just asking what do you all think
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:29 pm
With how bad of shape the pitching staff on the Phillies is, the last thing they should do is push Moyer to go a little further.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:30 pm
STL 1 NYM 0
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:30 pm
I think they could have tried to get another inning out of Moyer, but as the players like to joke: he risks missing the last shuttle back to the old folks home.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:31 pm
what was that Park lol
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:32 pm
You folks need to lay off Jimmy he got on scored a run, and they are winning 10-1 and you guys are whining about him going 0-4 can you just be happy once your miserable lives.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:34 pm
is the kid going to pitch the 8th also, this is kind of funny a 47 year old man gives way to a what 23 year old reliever
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:35 pm
Orioles just tied it up on the Marlins in the 9th. Heading to the bottom of the 9th now.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:35 pm
walker is around 91 looks sharp on MLB.com that last pitch was a strike according to them
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:36 pm
OK guys, five more outs.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:37 pm
lets hope this is not all the offense these guys have for the next two games if so maybe they should of saved some of these runs, Just kidding, but it would be nice if in the ninth you could take 3 runs off the board and start tomorrow up 3-0 like roll over minutes
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:38 pm
good thing Hamels is not pitching to his buddy Pat with a nine run lead he would grove a fastball to him just to make him look good
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:38 pm
hehehe. Rollover runs…
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:39 pm
I need a little more discusion going on in here I am very bored
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:41 pm
I am very tired. I think my own shuttle to the old folks home is heading out.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:42 pm
yea Tracey wouldn’t that be great, think about it, I like my closer I have a 9-1 lead I’ll take 5 runs off the board and make it 4-1 you get four runs off my closer you win, but I start tomorrow off up 5-0 that would be sooo cool
really laughing at myself now, can the guys in the white coats come and take me away,
I think the Phillies them song should be On The Road Again, so happy to be on the road again
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:42 pm
did this pitcher ever play for the phillies or was it a different Cormier, of was he a flyer
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:43 pm
come on tracey stay with me a little longer
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:44 pm
wow is there no one left in here but me I want to go home
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:45 pm
That was Rheal Cormier, I still get chills just thinking about him. He was great at giving up crucial runs in the 7th.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:45 pm
another hit by the flyin hawiaan is a single a double a triple a home run, blue dot no out got to love them
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:45 pm
Mets are coming back. We will sweep the Cardinals. Pete and AJ you are idiots each. I am a grown man and I will be here especially when the mets are crown world champs with or without the core
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:46 pm
mets down 3-0 now
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:46 pm
Mets just gave up runs . . .
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:47 pm
Saint Louis is up 3-0 now, but just had a runner picked off, and Pujols got caught stealing.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:47 pm
Eli is an idiot
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:47 pm
and another blue dot no out nice chase, no run listed so must be a single vic to third
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Cards up 3-0 after Pujols singled in 2. The Cards still had 1st and 2nd one out but got two guys picked off without another pitch being thrown.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:48 pm
I am here too, I was eating. Looks like Eli was keeping you company
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Dobbs has been hitting well lately I guess ryan needs his rest
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:49 pm
oh wow Baltimore scored 5 in the 9th
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:49 pm
opps stuck my foot in my mouth there didn’t I
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:50 pm
Todd Kalas is the play-by-play guy for the Rays, right? Does anybody know if there is a clip of him calling the final out from the World Series last year?
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:50 pm
shag beta sigma – I can talk now, I usually annoy others though
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:50 pm
shag are you watching the game on mlb scoreboard?
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:51 pm
nvm, they only scored 3
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:51 pm
who is pitching for the Phillies in the Ninth, they bringing the kid back out, and is he a kid how old is Tyler
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:51 pm
shag, if you want to watch baseball games on the computer, try rojadirecta.com
They don’t have every single game and the quality may not be great, but it’s free and it’s better than nothing.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:51 pm
Morris, kind of – he is a field reporter right now, but sometimes does PBP
I wish he would come to the Philles in a year or so – as I want him to be Todd, not Harry’s son.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:52 pm
Escalona is pitching
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:52 pm
OHHHH, #53, not 63 as I said. I Escalona. but killed his name I just use #53 now
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:53 pm
Walker is 33
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:53 pm
I’m sure Wheels would love to rock around the c**k. What an idiot.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:53 pm
no one annoys me when I am this bored, yes I am at work watching the stick men on MLB.com on the phillies game and just looking at the scoreboard on that screen,
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:53 pm
That sounded like a 3rd grader, what I meant was I always killed the spelling. I am tired, forgive me
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:53 pm
age wise
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:54 pm
I have the Rays feed tonight, so I don’t get to hear Wheels. rays feed on XM too, so no LA or Frenske
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:55 pm
When you don’t have the Phillies feed, you begin to appreciate T-Mac and Wheels
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:55 pm
I would really hate to be stuck in an elevator with Chris Wheeler.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:55 pm
Though I cannot stand Wheels, he entertains me
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:56 pm
I will try that one, I have extra innings at home, so when I am work and bored I come down to the office and watch the stick men play, I have my sisters, password for the Audio, but I get a perverted joy at watching the stick men, plus I flip back to this page when I see the blue dot and you guys usually let me know what is going on
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:56 pm
Morris, armed or unarmed
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:56 pm
Morris –
Yeah, he’s be rocking around your ****.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Ballgame
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Phillies win!
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Can we attack Citizen’s Bank Park to make it impossible for the Phillies to play there this year?
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Let’s go cardinals now. I have just become a fan of Puljos for about 3 innings
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:59 pm
Morris, we can make them play at the old Baker Bowl, I think it is still a parking lot LOL
Is that still so?
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:59 pm
game over phillies win it is great to be on the road again, just for shits and giggles can we give the Ashburn award to Moyer for the win, or does it have to go to Mayberry for his home run, or chase for his awesome offensive outburst
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:59 pm
Joel Pineiro has only thrown 69 pitches through 7. The Mets have only one hit.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:00 pm
Moyer deserves it, last time, everyone BUT him got the Jeltz, so he deserves the Ashburn
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:00 pm
stress free win, i don’t have to spend the evening in my head writing a book on the phillies’ problems…
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:01 pm
Might I have to go to Boston for New Years?
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:01 pm
I think Moyer deserves the Ashburn. 6 innings and only 1 run.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:01 pm
j reed – yes, and I can actually sleep tonight. Provided the Cardinals don’t give this up. Let’s go Prince Albert!
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:01 pm
Chase went 3 for 5… with 4 Rbis! Definitely THE MAN of the match..
…btw, Jimmy went 0-5. Holla.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:01 pm
I am going to Turner Field next week, so make it a trip Morris
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:02 pm
It was really nice to have laugher. Even the games they have won, they have been a little too close for comfort.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:02 pm
wow that’s exciting for the Flyers, hmm
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:03 pm
Yes, for the first time, I did not get into it with an enraged Met fan or phan1. I won’t have to change my name again.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:03 pm
Manny – we need to let Bastardo bat and DH for Jimmy
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:04 pm
Ashburn to Moyer? Seriously? It’s not like he pitched 7 shutout innings… are our expectations for him so low that if he goes 6 innings with 1 ER, he’s instantaneously the player of the game?
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:04 pm
I was considering heading down to Turner next week, but just can’t make it. Might head out to Pittsburgh for the Phillies in August.
But there is a rumour- Flyers-Bruins at Fenway on New Years.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:05 pm
I wouldn’t object to that, AJ.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:07 pm
Manny – 99% of the time I agree with you, but we disagree about Moyer. He is 46, I agree, but he did great. I think he deserves it because it was a great outing. Had he actually had that one inning shortened, he would have gone 7. But I like you! We agree on most other stuff!
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:09 pm
Moyer pitched a fantastic game and deserves the Ashburn. He was never in serious trouble except for one inning, and it felt like he was in control. I did not have that “waiting for the other shoe to drop” feeling i normally have when he pitches.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:10 pm
Yeah, I may go back to MP now that I shook the enraged Met fan and phan 1
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:12 pm
Morris-I have to go to Pittsburgh for a wedding this August when the Phils are there, it’s a Thrusday game.
really, like the red wings vs. blackhawks, that would be cool…Do you think we can get that defenseman from the Panthers?
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:12 pm
Morris, yes, no Tums or Metimucil for me tonight
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:12 pm
Oops… dozed off for a few minutes, , but we pulled it of, and it looks like the Mets won’t. Whee!
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:14 pm
Fine.. but forget how old he is for a second, and what he means to this organization.
Now compare the following two players’ performance today and tell me who you think is the man of the match:
Player A: 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 Ks
Player B: 3 for 5, 2 R, 4 RBIs (including a 2-run HR)
I’ll take Player B. Why? There’s nothing THAT special about a 6 inning performance… but a player that goes 3 for 5 with 4 RBIs is definitely a bit rarer and unique!
—
Props to Mayberry too for his 3-run bomb.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:14 pm
Tracey shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Bottom of the 9th… two outs… I can wait until that ends to go to bed…
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Manny – I do agree with that. But in this case I think Jamie just did a turnaround and I HOPE it stays for 2009. We need him the way he was.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:17 pm
Mets lost, always fun
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:18 pm
It’s final! Phils are now up 2.5 games!
Good night, all!
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:18 pm
If you are going to Pittsburgh for a game, go to the Pirates website and search for the Birthday promotion. If you sign up, you get a free ticket to any game. You just have to choose your game.
I will actually be in Pittsburgh a few weeks before the Phillies go there, but I am looking to make a day and half trip for the Phillies.
The Flyers have almost no cap room, they will need to do a lot of dealing to free up space, but I would not be surprised if they signed Boumeester. Ed Snider does not screw around when it comes to the Flyers. The Sixers on the other hand…
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:22 pm
Yea Jamie looked very good today… he’s been pretty solid lately.. hopefully it’s a good sign for the rest of his season
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:23 pm
Nice, I had to give Chpper my money as I live in SC, but it is my step-dad’s not mine!
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:34 pm
morris- yeah the Sixers….well the NBA in general…you have to throw a season if you want to rebuild to draft the guy, the next superstar you seem to need in the NBA to win…Cool thing is I hear is that they are going back to the ‘83 uniforms. Thanks for the info on the Pirates promo. I guess they are that desperate for fans…Too bad they traded McClouth… I think it angered the diehards enough that trading one of their pitchers will throw those remaining pirates fans off the deep end. With Penny looking more and more off the market (or at least you’d be over paying for him) as well as Marquis and Cook looking less viable, I was looking to the pirates….wait and see i guess
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:37 pm
The Moyer line is so far removed from reality that Im going to go ahead and say that was either fake or that was a secret robot ninja out there instead of Jamie Moyer.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:37 pm
I feel bad for Pirates fans. I could not imagine how it would feel every time they get a good, established player, he is traded for prospects. At least we ship our prospects before they’re proven so we won’t know they’re future Hall of Famers (Ryne Sanberg, Schilling – as much I could not stand him, etc.)
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:40 pm
Watching the Rangers/D-Backs game. Kevin Millwood – another person I would take back. Rangers are not trading though obviously…
If we trade, we need to seriously look at Cliff Lee, or a team in the AL near last place who is willing. Since Oakland doesn’t have anything, I think the Indians would deal. At what cost; no clue…
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:49 pm
I don’t want to be too positive on a night that was so positive for me and the team but I just wanted to send out a big SUCK IT to Jeff and the other cronies for ripping me mercilessly and specifically pointing to this game and saying I was going to get raked. Again, suck it.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:51 pm
But that wasnt real. The Phillies did score 10 runs, but Jamie Moyer didnt do that. It could have also been a hologram with a fake baseball.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:52 pm
AJ- as a baseball fan yeah i feel bad for them, but they do have the Cup and the Lombardi trophy to comfort them….Actually, I think the success of those teams has let the poor policies of the Pirates management fly under the radar because except for the generation who can recall the Pirate’s past glory, most of Pittsburgh has been placated with 6 superbowls and 3 Stanely Cups. I HATE THOSE PENGUINS. I still haven’t recovered from that game 6 nightmare.
June 23rd, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Todd Kalas does the in-game reporting on Fox. I just saw him on the Rays telecast on mlb extra innings. He was like T-Mac, chilling in the seats talking about twitter. He’s pretty good.
June 23rd, 2009 at 11:01 pm
Brian – I commented on TK a bit ago. I wish the Phillies would snag him in abuot a year. Enough time that he would be Todd and not known as Harry’s son. It would just be nice to have him, but again, not too soon or he will never have his own identity.
June 23rd, 2009 at 11:06 pm
Whoever posted as Jamie above – Priceless. Love it, I defended him and Brad Lidge – so I say the same who ripped mercilessly. I also STILL defend Coste. laugh at me if you will.
j reed – Good point. Let me rephrase it this way. I love the Phillies more than life, but I don’t follow football, hockey, etc. hence, I feel for the BASEBALL fans that love the Pirates. Not the ones that have every trophy in every other sport. I mean Pirate fans have not seen a winning team in a while.
June 23rd, 2009 at 11:09 pm
AJ- i’ll add Gavin Floyd, Ryan Franklin, and Kyle Loshe to the list. Check out this link regarding Loshe and tipping pitches. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/nl/cardinals/2009-05-04-duncan-cardinals_N.htm
I’ve been saying this has been Lidge’s problem (so did HOF joe morgan when he had trouble in Houston). Once I read this, it strengthen my opinion that Lidge has been either tipping pitches or has altered his mechanics so that batters are picking up the slider’s rotation to early and know to lay off it.
June 23rd, 2009 at 11:28 pm
AJ- not a football fan either, just want the Eagles to win well…cause they represent Philly but mainly so Eagles fan will stop their incessant hand wringing and complaints. I was born here, left when I was a kid in ‘80, lived in DC area, moved back to philly in ‘08…In DC there is only one team, the Redskins, so when I came here and we won the WS and ended the championship drought, I thought I’d finally be living in a baseball town. Then when the Eagles went to the play-offs, well, I realized the town really bleeds green more that red. And then there were those Eagle chants during the WS games which really pissed me off since well…the birds have yet to seal the deal. The Cup however must return to us espcially when the Flyers have the best winning percentage after the Habs.
June 23rd, 2009 at 11:31 pm
I hate the Eagles, but I sure love the Phillies and Flyers
June 24th, 2009 at 12:00 am
mlb. highlights – Zumaya of DT. was clocked at 104 mph. Whoa
June 24th, 2009 at 12:06 am
Keith – i’m not a football fan but I hear about the Eagles endlessly on sports radio….just curious, any reason for hating the Eagles?
June 24th, 2009 at 9:11 am
j reed/Keith,
I was born there and moved in 2003, so I understand. I am in Braves Country, but obviously I bleed Phillie red. I know what you mean about the Redskins. I always thought DC was a bad place for the Nats. I was thinking North Carolina or Tennesee for a baseball team when the Expos moved.
June 25th, 2009 at 2:09 pm
phillies
