The Phillies hope to win the series tonight with Joe Blanton on the mound.  In his last start, Blanton allowed four earned runs in 5.1 innings against the Toronto Blue Jays.  In Game 4 of the World Series, not only did Blanton hit a home run, he pitched superb allowing two earned runs on four hits and two walks.  He struck out seven in six innings.

Blanton allowed a home run to Carl Crawford, who will be in the Rays lineup.  Carlos Pena has Blanton’s number in the regular season.  When Blanton was in Oakland, Pena batted .571 off him.

In his last outing against the Colardo Rockies, Matt Garza gave up four runs in five innings.  He allowed three home runs and struck out five.  He received the no decision in Game 3 of the World Series after giving up four runs in six innings.  Carlos Ruiz, Chase Utley, and Ryan Howard each homered off him.

Your Gameday Beer:A local brew, Prima Pils by Victory is on tap tonight. We here at Phillies Nation have been drinking a lot of it recently and it is delicious. Full of body with a flowery but not too sweet flavor, this is a fairly hoppy beer. It goes perfect with anything hot off the grill that is also rich in flavor, like ribs or a kona-encrusted steak. -By Brian

Go Phillies!

  1. Miles Says:

I have a fairly disgusting Blanton-esque gotee going right now that I am not shaving until Blanton loses his next game. Here’s to hoping that it will be even more disgusting looking 5 days from now!

  2. Miles Says:

Has anyone seen the lineup? I would play The Natural and Stairs tonight with Garza on the mound. Mayberry looks like money against lefties but he hasn’t shown that he can do much of anything against righties at the big league level yet.

  3. Polish Prince Says:

I’m at The Trop and they came on the big screen to explain how and when to use those stupid cowbells. It feels like a minor league game.

  4. Keith Says:

Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard, Werth, Stairs, Dobbs, Feliz, Ruiz

  5. Bruce Says:

Cowbells? Cowbells!! Whoa! That must be fun. It will be ringing in everyone’s ears in that indoor stadium. (chuckles)

  6. Bruce Says:

If that is the official lineup with Dobbs listed, then Howard will be the DH again.

Off topic note: Congratulations to the US soccer team for their great upset of European champions, Spain, 2-0 in the semifinals of the 8 team Confederations Cup. That tournament is a warm up to the World Cup.

  7. Miles Says:

Bruce, that soccer game was unbelievable. I thought we were going to lose 3-0. But enough about that, it’s time to silence the cowbells once again. Not that it takes that much.

  8. Phil Says:

    Prima Pils is great.

  9. The Dipsy Says:

Is it me or are McCarthy/Wheeler the worst broadcasting tandem in MLB?

    The Dipsy

  10. Miles Says:

I’m not sure what makes me want to mute my TV more….our broadcasters or those cowbells. What professional sports team honestly hands out cowbells at a regular season game? Unbelievable.

  11. Miles Says:

@Dipsy…its become sad that I look forward to Sarge in the 4th just in hopes that he at least does something amusing. Franzke and LA are head and shoulders above anything we throw onto the TV.

  12. Tracey Says:

@Miles: Well, attendance is low, so it’s not like they have to pass out a lot of cowbells.

  13. Miles Says:

I’m so sick of Wheels trying to make any dude pitching pitching against us into Cy Young. We have one of, if not THE best, lineups in baseball so we should be able to hit good pitchers! I don’t give a crap about Garza’s curveball.

  14. Jeff Says:

I hate Manuel. Sorry guys. First off Jimmy cant hit water from a boat. Put him down in the 6th hole. Why Stairs tonight. I understand this guy is tough on righty’s but Mayberry is coming along and Stairs his horrible. The way this kid is pitching, we will be lucky to win.

  15. Keith Says:

    hmm, Burrell just drilled one

  16. The Dipsy Says:

Does Wheels wanna date Don Zimmer?…whoops there’s a home run.

    The Dipsy

  17. Phil Says:

That is the only guy I think I can deal with watching hit a home run against the Phillies.

  18. Ed R. Says:

I think it is entirely unfair and inaccurate to say Stairs is horrible considering he has put up some decent numbers as a pinch hitter and in limited duty.

Good for Pat Burrell. Blanton showed no respect by throwing him that meatball.

  19. Jeff Says:

Great job Pat. Blanton will have 90 pitches in the fourth. We lose this one.

  20. Dave Says:

Somehow I knew this would happen. Even though he only had 1 hr so far this season, somehow I knew….

  21. Mark Says:

Stairs is not horrible. He had some homers but thats hit. He is not a great hitter. Just a streaky home run hitter. GAME OVER TONIGHT

  22. ll Says:

charlie is so stubborn first of all so im not surprised jimmy is leading off although he should not be…anyway, i dont like stairs in the lineup also, i def. prefer mayberry

i cant believe patty b actually hit a homer…wow now he has 2

  23. The Dipsy Says:

Wheels is just so totally brutal. What kind of team would ever have an ANALYST that never played the game he was hired to analyze? And all his stupid sayings. If I hear a team is in a “no doubles defense” again I’m gonna puke. He’s gotta have pictures of Dave Montgomery and a farm animal. Frantzke and LA ARE so much better. McCarthy is just really deejay-ee, if that makes any sense. He’s got the personality of a can of paint. I actually wish Andy Musser was back.

    The Dispy

  24. The Dipsy Says:

And by the way, and I don’t expect many to be with me on this, but I love The Sarge.

    The Dipsy

  25. Keith Says:

gees everyone is talking about the announcers tonight

  26. ll Says:

    garza is so annoying

  27. Keith Says:

Stairs is not horrible btw either

  28. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Ok guys, we got a game with the (Devil) Rays tonight! And that only means one thing! Bad news for the (Devil) Rays!

  29. Morris Buttermaker Says:

My favorite Wheels move is when he wants to see what type of pitch was thrown on a replay. “It looked like it was a slider… yep it was a slider.”

  30. Ed R. Says:

4 pitches…that’s all it has taken to get our “leadoff” hitter out twice tonight.

  31. The Dipsy Says:

Dude, Keith, its hitting a critical mass. These announcers being allowed to continue is a crime against humanity. My ear drums are actually starting to bleed. I would actually have them play the game and listen to the test from the emergency broadcast system instead.

    The Dispy

  32. Keith Says:

    “this game’s goofy!”

  33. Keith Says:

wow dipsy, they’re really not that bad. there’s worse announcers by far.

  34. The Dipsy Says:

    hahahahahahahahahahahaha.

    The Dispy

  35. The Dipsy Says:

    Like who?

    The Dispy

  36. Keith Says:

    nice catch Werth

  37. Keith Says:

    The Mets announcers

    -Keith-

  38. Tracey Says:

May I recommend the $15 MLB audio package? You can listen to the radio broadcast online while watching the game on TV. OK, the slight time difference is a bit disorienting…

  39. Tracey Says:

Oh wow… Jayson is showing his Werth tonight!

  40. The Dipsy Says:

Keith, I don’t know how old you are, but I’ve been listening to this shithead for thirty years. And now that Harry’s gone, making Wheeler the lead guy is like the episode where Frank Burns got elevated to Colonel.

    The Dipsy

  41. ll Says:

jimmy rollins being a leadoff hitter is embarrassing to watch

  42. The Dipsy Says:

Its impossible. It could be a tie but NO ONE is worse.

    The Dipsy

  43. Dave Says:

Oh look, Shane Victorino got a walk.

Of course, who am I going to believe, Charlie Manuel, or my own lying eyes?

  44. Keith Says:

well he isn’t the lead guy. T-Mac is lol.

  45. Keith Says:

there’s a different lead off hitter every inning

  46. The Dipsy Says:

Top 5 bad things to happen in Philadelphia history:

    1. Legionnaire’s disease
    2. Frank Rizzo
    3. The MOVE disaster
    4. Chris Wheeler
    5. Death of Jim O’Brien

    The Dipsy

  47. Keith Says:

I seriously doubt Chris Wheeler would be on that list

  48. Tracey Says:

This is the flawless pitcher they’ve been raving about? Two walks in a row?

  49. Keith Says:

    walked the bases loaded

  50. Tracey Says:

It’s moments like this when I’m missing RAUUUUL!

  51. Keith Says:

    that sucked

  52. Tracey Says:

    (sigh) Thanks a lot, Werth.

  53. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Way to let the team down.

  54. Morris Buttermaker Says:

That is the problem with this team, Garza walks three straight and you take a hack at the first thing he throws.

  55. Ed R. Says:

Is Werth kidding with that at bat? The guy walks 3 in a row and you swing at the first pitch? WTF

  56. Dave Says:

    Was that really necessary, Werth?

  57. Paul Says:

You said just what I was thinking Ed R…

  58. Keith Says:

    oh well

  59. Morris Buttermaker Says:

I guess they are trying to prove they can play stupid baseball on the road too.

  60. Tracey Says:

Oh, that’s a disgrace. Walks the bases loaded with no outs, and we don’t score a single run.

  61. Philly Geoff Says:

    Disgusting.

  62. The Dipsy Says:

    It was a joke, Keith.

    The Dipsy

  63. Keith Says:

I know, it was a bad one ;)

  64. Keith Says:

    Blanton strikes out the side!

  65. Tracey Says:

    Wow! GREAT inning for Blanton!

  66. mikeB Says:

Terrible at bat by Werth. Hacked at the first pitch. Should have been more patient and at least tried to sacrifice to get a run in. Even though he is a terrific defensive player with a great arm, I do not think the Phillies would miss him if they included him in a trade for a starting pitcher. Just is not getting it done at the plate lately.

  67. Greg V. Says:

Wow great inning for Blanton! Hopefully the no-hitter gets broken up soon!

  68. Keith Says:

Feliz and Ruiz are cold, ice cold

  69. ll Says:

i dont want to bash werth because he’s so good defensively but cmon – garza was wild and walked three batters in a row and werth feels the need to swing at the first pitch…that’s just stupid

  70. Mark Says:

I said to my wife in the next room. Hey The Phillies have bases loaded with Werthless up. She said. They will screw it up. She was right with no outs. Why when the pitcher is wild is Werthless swinging at the first pitch??????????????

  71. Dave Says:

Yeah, that’s actually what I was thinking, mikeb, that he’s the starter we could most easily sacrifice (with Mayberry seeming like he could contribute).

  72. Mark Says:

Oh and can we get Jroll out of the first spot. My G-D. He is 0-23….

  73. Mark Says:

    Stairs is pathetic.

  74. ll Says:

i just wish mayberry was hitting tonight. i mean stairs is good but i like him as a PH.

seriously, joe blanton is on tonight striking people out left and right and of course the phillies can’t get hits..figures

  75. Keith Says:

Jayson Werth is Phillie of the week

  76. Ed R. Says:

Well atleast J-Roll took 3 pitches to get out this time. Truth be told though it was a good swing it was just right at the RF.

  77. Tracey Says:

(sigh) At least they made the pitcher work a little this time.

  78. Amazin Mets Says:

Wow, Garza is dominating you guys.
Mets winning 4-0 and Phillies losing because of former phillie hitting homer = great day

  79. Mark Says:

We go from scoring 10 runs to 0 runs. We had a big chance but Werthless swings at the first pitch after the they guy walks them loaded. I hope Jroll stays in the leadoff spot. Good to see if he can bat under .200

  80. Tracey Says:

HA! That’s what you get for getting greedy!

  81. Morris Buttermaker Says:

One of the biggest misconceptions is that Werth is a great defensive player. He is slightly below average in the field. He gets to a lot of balls because of his speed, and makes catches due to his athleticism. But he really butchers easy plays quite often.

  82. nk Says:

werth is the last person you want in that bases loaded 0 out situation..i mean he can hit but when you really need him to do something, even a sac fly, he always seems to find a way to mess it up…

  83. Tracey Says:

WHEW! But really, I think Blanton’s finished tonight.

  84. Geoff Says:

Werths AB was one of the worst ideas ive ever seen. Why swing at the first pitch? If you have BL and 0 outs, I wouldnt swing at all unless its dead red right down the middle. DUmbA$$

however, matt garza is pitching really well tonight, as is Blanton

  85. nk Says:

jayson werth seriously ruined the game. that was one of the few opportunities we had to actually get runs and then his at bat happens..

  86. Keith Says:

    WERTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  87. Tracey Says:

    Whee!

  88. Ed R. Says:

Everyone still screaming for Werth’s head?

  89. Dave Says:

Why couldn’t you do that with the bases loaded, Werth?

  90. DJ Says:

Wow! That just doesnt make sense! He chokes with the bases loaded but then is patient and hits a home run!

  91. Keith Says:

cuz it’s harder with the bases loaded

  92. Tracey Says:

OK… now we need another one of those home runs… :D

  93. Keith Says:

for the people who said Stairs sucks, he just got a hit. oh and he hit that monster of a homerun against the Dodgers in the NLCS last year ;)

  94. Keith Says:

Feliz, Ruiz, and Rollins are ice cold. ut oh

  95. Jason B Says:

Way to go, Jayson. Too bad you didn’t do it with the bases loaded, but still – you’ve kind of redeemed yourself.

  96. Tracey Says:

Ah well. We cut the lead in half.

  97. Keith Says:

    poor Feliz

  98. nk Says:

still mad about werth because of the fact that we could either have been tied or winning at this point and he’s the main reason we’re not

  99. Ed R. Says:

It may be harder to hit a homer with the bases loaded but it is easier to get a hit with the bases loaded. Pitchers are more likely to give you something to hit because they can’t exactly risk pitching around you.

  100. DJ Says:

Im just mad cus he wasn’t patient at all with the bases loaded!

  101. Tracey Says:

Blanton is still pitching? He was looking pretty ragged last inning.

  102. Mark Says:

all Werth had to do was work the count. You never know. A walk or a mistake pitch. You cant go up swinging on the first pitch after he was wild. My god.

  103. Keith Says:

    9 Ks for Blanton

  104. Morris Buttermaker Says:

What is this? Chris Wheeler impression night?

  105. Morris Buttermaker Says:

The Werth at-bat was three innings ago. Let it go.

  106. Keith Says:

    10 Ks*

  107. Mark Says:

Joe is dealing. 10 ks. We just need to score now.

  108. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Here is your fun fact for the night- last season Joe Blanton lead the league with the highest percentage of called 3rd strikes of total strikeouts.

  109. Keith Says:

    alright Ruiz, Rollins, & Victorino

  110. DJ Says:

Since the game against the redsox what has Jimmy gone for? Anyone know?

  111. nk Says:

just saying its kind of hard to let it go when joe blanton is doing his job and all the phillies need is 2 runs to be winning and werth is the main reason they didn’t get them

  112. Morris Buttermaker Says:

According to my stats, Jimmy has done somewhere between Nothing and Absolutely Nothing.

  113. Keith Says:

    blah

  114. DJ Says:

Someone said 0 for 23 so I was making sure! If thats a fact then he needs to sit period!

  115. Morris Buttermaker Says:

He is on an 0-18 streak.

  116. Morris Buttermaker Says:

I think he had a hit on Saturday night, but I won’t guarantee that.

  117. Morris Buttermaker Says:

He was waiting on his pitch. Nice pitch to pop-up.

  118. Keith Says:

poor Jimmy, he’s still my fav player

  119. Mark Says:

    Letter to Mr. Charlie Manuel,

Sir, I know you are a little old but please sir GETTY JIMMY OUT OF THE NUMBER ONE SPOT,,,

  120. Morris Buttermaker Says:

His last hit was on Thursday.

  121. DJ Says:

I think he is going to drop under the Mendoza line!

  122. Morris Buttermaker Says:

I am glad they are letting the hedgehog pitch. No point changing pitchers when your team can’t get on base anyway.

  123. cxl72 Says:

Cmon Charlie you left Blanton in one batter too many

  124. Morris Buttermaker Says:

I am looking at Jimmy’s stats for the season right now. They are even worse than I thought they were. Really pathetic.

  125. Dave Says:

Btw, I suppose Werth gets the Jeltz if we lose today? Either him or Jimmy Mendoza.

  126. Greg V. Says:

It’s damn tragic if Blanton loses this game. I’m not sure I’ve seen him pitch a better game. He really pitched a phenominal game tonight. My hat is off to him.

  127. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Looks like the whole team has a case of Jimmy Rollins-Itis tonight.

  128. DJ Says:

I say Jimmy always gets it til he hits or gets out the lead spot

  129. j reed Says:

yeah he leads the league in fly outs…last time i checked it was @ 109 but with yesterday and today not included

  130. cxl72 Says:

What would Jimmy need to do for Charlie to move him down? 0-100? 0-200? Or….would we have to be 5 or 10 games out of first place. This is terrible.

  131. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Romero needs to get back on the juice.

  132. Mets Says:

The Triple A Mets are currently winning 8-0

  133. Tracey Says:

    WOW! that was close.

  134. Manny Says:

WOOOOO! MATT STAIRS nice outfield assist!!!!!!!

  135. Ed R. Says:

Yep, that Matt Stairs he is horrible isn’t he?

I’d take him over Werth. Atleast he works a count.

  136. Keith Says:

    what a throw by Stairs

  137. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Tropicana Field might be the worst sports venue in the country. But that was a great camera angle.

  138. Manny Says:

CMON JC! Just focus on the batter..get him ouutttt

  139. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Who cares if Crawford steals, Romero is trying his darndest to walk this guy.

  140. Tracey Says:

    uh oh…

  141. Morris Buttermaker Says:

He is putting Park in so that the knuckleheads on 610 will be able to complain about him if he gives up a hit.

  142. Morris Buttermaker Says:

    Jimmy for the Jeltz!

  143. Terri Says:

Holy Shit! Did that just happen?

  144. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Jimmy better go find himself a nice seat on the bench and get used to it.

  145. Mark Says:

Jimmy is fuc….patheic. burrell gave up after he hit. you go after first on that you moron. game over.

  146. cxl72 Says:

What a dumb play by Jimmy. If he wants to give us 1979 ozzie smith offense he needs to give us gold glove defense. Oh there go 2 more runs. Great job Jimmy. Thanks for killing Romero’s ERA too.

  147. Terri Says:

    Time to sit Jimmy!!

  148. Tracey Says:

Definitely Jimmy for the Jeltz. Instead of getting out of this inning, we’ve given up 3 runs.

  149. Mets Says:

    5-1

  150. AGH Says:

Rollins needs to sit. Maybe take a tour of Lehigh. 0-19 is one thing. Mental mistakes in close games are inexcusable.

  151. Manny Says:

What happened? What did J-out do?

  152. Terri Says:

This team is struggling and Jimmy is a big part of it! When will Charlie realize this!

  153. AGH Says:

At least we won’t lose another heartbreaker.

  154. Ed R. Says:

Bad enough J-Roll can’t hit anymore but now he doesn’t know how to field either? Pathetic effort. If anyone deserves a benching its J-Roll. I have been a supporter for a long time but whats fair is fair.

  155. Tracey Says:

Yuck. About time we got out of this. Top of the 9th. Sheesh. I know the Phils play their best under pressure, but still…

  156. Andrew Says:

Does rollins have trade value? If move him for a pitcher ina heartbeat.

this is really hard to believe now

something has to give here. this cant just continue

  157. Morris Buttermaker Says:

J-Out stepped up his game. Jimmy just did in the field what Werth did at the plate with the bases loaded.

  158. cxl72 Says:

I’m wondering if we can trade a Mayberry or a Carrasco for a major league shortstop. It’s beyond the point that I can stand.

  159. Georgie Says:

I’ve given Jimmy a pass on his crappy offensive play but that was just unacceptable, if his fielding starts to suck he’s OUTTA HERE!

  160. Greg V. Says:

Anyone who is not Joe Blanton on this team right now ought to be [CENSORED] ashamed of themselves! What a disgrace! Spoiling a great outing!

  161. lm Says:

wow, so not only can jimmy not hit, but then causes us to give up 6 more runs.

    thanks jimmy.

  162. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Bases were loaded with two outs, and Burrell at the plate. He hit a soft ground ball to short, Jimmy jogged over and flipped to 2nd, but it was not in time. He would have had Burrell at 1st easily. Run scored, next guy up hit a single, drove in two.

  163. Jason B Says:

Good game by Blanton down the drain.

  164. Manny Says:

    J-OUT: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! SIT DOWN!!

At this point, we might as well send him to AAA and bring up a Jason Donald, even if he’s DLed!

  165. Terri Says:

Charlie better bench Jimmy tomorrow. Not only does his offense suck, but his defense has cost us. Should still be a one run game.

  166. Morris Buttermaker Says:

It ended up costing the Phillies 5 runs.

  167. Tracey Says:

And the worst part of this is that Blanton is going to pick up an L after pitching a tremendous game.

  168. cxl72 Says:

i will say that chan ho doesn’t handle adversity well. the first thing that goes wrong he pisses his pants.

  169. Geoff Says:

JC Romero has NOT been an effective pitcher since he is now “clean.” whatever that means

  170. Mark Says:

burrell wasnt even running on the play. he was being pat. jimmy is pathetic. i have never been a fan. he has a big mouth. his hitting is horrible and he makes plays like that. wow. bench is sorry as…s

  171. Andrew Says:

    It is embarrassing as hell
and the ny Mess won tongith with a skell team

  172. Ed G. Says:

Time for Charlie to do some chewing out…
What a waste of a game by Joe B.
Jimmy needs to get his head out of his hat

  173. cxl72 Says:

C’Mon Georgie last week you were a Rollins apologist and now you’re out for blood. Does an 0-20 and some terrible defense shake you that much?

  174. Georgie Says:

JC looks like he’s bloating out since he’s come back, and I’m just so pissed off at Jimmy right now I can hardly think.

  175. Terri Says:

    Watch them score here.

  176. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Don’t even blame Chan Ho. He got out of the inning. But then Jimmy Rollins totally half-assed the play.

  177. Geoff Says:

Blanton pitched like an ace tonight and they didnt help him out at all. Werth cost us like 2 or 3 runs early in the game. j-roll is just pathetic, totally flamed out at the plate. Romero was definitely doing something because now he cant hit the broadside of a barn.

  178. Andrew Says:

As i sit here and listen tot he Rays announcers BEG for fans to attend the game tomorrow
I think how pitiful are we?
Minimal J rol sits tomorrow. Really you put him in the peavy or halladay deal does it make it better?

  179. Geoff Says:

Looks like its time for J-Trade.com again, or good old Jimmy Tradins. Traderoll, Trady Rollins.

  180. Ed R. Says:

Except Werth still knows how to catch and throw a guy out. Werth has 2 hits, and our only RBI.

  181. Geoff Says:

Peavy and Halladay arent getting traded, stop it man.

  182. Tracey Says:

    (sigh) and that’s the game.

  183. cxl72 Says:

I’m thinking Rollins doesnt get that 2011 option picked up next year…..

    5 years/$40M (2006-10), plus 2011 club option

    signed extension with Philadelphia 6/05
    $5M signing bonus
    06:$4M
    07:$7M
    08:$7M
    09:$7.5M
    10:$7.5M
    11:$8.5M ($2M buyout)
award bonus: $50,000 for Gold Glove

  184. lm Says:

this is not chan ho’s fault at all. PURELY JIMMY. – just makes me dislike him even more!

  185. Terri Says:

Charlie better not come to Jimmy’s defense. He needs to have a “talk” with the guy.

  186. j reed Says:

wow, they got that call, but we didn’t, think the umps want to get to the bar

  187. Georgie Says:

cxl, yeah, call it bad defense, non-chalanting, not giving a F, whatever, that ticks me off more than anything, especially the way that particular play went down. I was all over Jimmy last year when he started to look like this, and I’ll do it this year too!

  188. cxl72 Says:

Chan Ho is fine until something happens and he falls to a million pieces. A big boy shrugs off the bonehead Rollins play. You just knew he’d crumble and let more in. You knew it.

  189. Ed G. Says:

Jimmy will be back, just in a bad funk. He rarely makes defensive mistakes. He need to get refocused..

  190. Georgie Says:

hahahaha Geoff, “Trady Rollins”, I like that one!

  191. Greg V. Says:

Rollins was inexcusible tonight! HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW TO THROW TO FIRST WHEN PAT BURRELL IS ON HIS WAY THERE???????????????

  192. cxl72 Says:

I blame Charlie more than Jimmy. Get the guy out of the lineup for a day or two. You wonder why your team has no rhythm. With the pitcher up and then Rollins thats 2 innings of the first 6 or 7 where our offense is neutered.

  193. Morris Buttermaker Says:

If you blame this on Chan Ho, you are just as stupid as those morons on 610. He pitched poorly early in the season, and has been the best arm out of the pen for 2 months.

  194. cxl72 Says:

But Ed what will Jimmy be back “to”? I’d be happy with his career averages and gold glove defense. That appears far fetched now.

  195. lm Says:

what do you expect from charlie? he just annoys me because he’s sooooooo stubborn and won’t change anything and by anything i mean purely jimmy.

like someone else said jimmy was inexcusable both offensively and defensively tonight. if he’s not benched tomorrow…im not even going to know what to think

  196. cxl72 Says:

    Blame Jimmy more than anyone.

You have to also blame both Romero and Park. 2 of the 3 outs they got were on base running blunders and both poured gasoline on the fire. Chan Ho induced the grounder to Jimmy but then crumbled when his defense let him down. 23 year old rookies do that not 35 year old veterans.

  197. Georgie Says:

No, I won’t blame Charlie for Jimmy’s poor play, his head’s not in the game right now, he went through this last year too. There’s no excuse for a major league ball player to play like he doesn’t give a shit, unless he’s suffering from depression or something, it’s inexcusable. This game could have been won, but that play by Jimmy sucked all the air out of the rest of the team, and that’s really annoying.

  198. Greg V. Says:

I don’t even want Rollins on the team anymore. To hell with lead off! I say trade him!

  199. cxl72 Says:

Charlie should know his team and that Jimmy needs to get benched or moved down. Its like groundhog day, every day is the same, 0-4. The lousy defense was an interesting wrinkle.

  200. JeffS Says:

    Geoff,

There weren’t three runs early in the game, unless you count the 8th inning early. A little eager to blame our only bat tonight?

    Geoff Says:
    June 24th, 2009 at 9:56 pm

Blanton pitched like an ace tonight and they didnt help him out at all. Werth cost us like 2 or 3 runs early in the game.

  201. ShameLooserino Says:

wow you guys are idiots, this guy won the MVP 2 years ago and you’re turning your back on him, what a bunch of frauds you guys are.

  202. cxl72 Says:

We’re like 1-24 now when we score 3 runs or less. Pathetic.

  203. JeffS Says:

The only early runs were off a HR to left. How is that Werth’s fault?

  204. baseballfan Says:

I agree ShaneLooserino. As a Met Fan, I will take Rollins if phillie fans do not want him. Ludicrus to not want Rollins on your team. I say Phillie fans because no person in the organization is even entertaining a thought of getting rid of him.

  205. JeffS Says:

Wow, Webb is more seriously wounded than I thought. Makes the pitching market tighter.

  206. cxl72 Says:

Au contraire shame, i hate to get all french language on you but everyone wants jimmy to do well but my anger is directed to charlie manuel. move him down in the line up. for crying out loud play the beard for 2 or 3 games. do you think that anyone wants to see him struggle? its painful. just painful.

  207. lm Says:

even if the phillies lost 2-1 that would have been fine. i mean its a loss but whatever. losing 7-1 is just plain unneccessary and its because of jimmy rollins. i wouldnt mind seeing him out of the lineup for a loooong while

  208. baseballfan Says:

Yeah, It is absurd that Jimmy is not getting moved around to get hot. After his defense today, I would say one day benching they move him to the 5th spot. Charlie really is being stubbern and needs to do anything to get him going.

  209. cxl72 Says:

jeff s, they pulled like a 3 year $54M contract extension and thats when i knew webb’s arm was shot

  210. ShameLooserino Says:

well who’s pitching tomorrow, J-ack A-ss Happ, or Toni BAstard?

  211. JeffS Says:

It’s really a shame, though, because he has been a great pitcher, and you never know how the recovery will go.

  212. baseballfan Says:

Did you guys hear about the trade that almost got done. It was JA Happ for Ryan Spilborg and Marquis. Colorado got hot so they did not want to make the trade.

  213. cxl72 Says:

right baseball fan. rollins was 5-8 batting 6th earlier this month and has been terrible sense. we’re blowing game after game and have a real chance to pull away from the division and are pissing it away.

    last 12 games

  214. Greg V. Says:

Hey if any of you Mets fans want Rollins, I’ll gladly give him to you for Johan Santana! I’ll drive him there for you!

  215. JeffS Says:

That is the dumbest trade rumor. The last thing the Phils need is another OF in their system. Besides not knowing how to get Mayberry enough bats, they have 3 of the best OF prospects around.

  216. cxl72 Says:

no baseball fan. that would have been a great trade for the phils. imo happ is more of a bullpen guy. those rockies are on fire.

  217. JeffS Says:

I wouldn’t mind Marquis, though. Proven himself in a fly ball HR ballpark. But why would the Phils want another OF, who they wouldn’t be able to fit on the 25 man roster?

  218. cxl72 Says:

I want to get that Michael Taylor up to the Phils. Trying to get all of the outfielders at bats is like solving an unsolvable puzzle.

  219. cxl72 Says:

I agree JeffS that Spill would be a throw in. Marquis fits in with our other mid-season acquisitions of Moyer, Lohse and Blanton.

  220. JeffS Says:

Between his bat and his arm, I have a man crush on Michael Taylor. Keep taking the stepdaughter to Reading to watch him.

  221. cxl72 Says:

sweet justice, rollins got the jeltz tonight, later….

  222. Geoff Says:

Werth COST US those runs with that bad swing at the first pitch wtih BL…duh

  223. cxl72 Says:

Werth’s play was terrible and probably cost us the game there. That was our chance to take control. He’s a sloppy hitter and never has a plan. One pitch he’s swinging on one knee the next its a HR. I’m a Werth fan but I certainly never look for an intelligent at bat from him.

  224. cxl72 Says:

I gotta get to Reading to see Taylor. I hope the Phils can find a taker for Mayberry. Why wouldnt a GM want a low paid rookie under your control for the next 6 seasons that looks like he kills lefties and can give you…

    .260avg

  225. JeffS Says:

Werth has never had an intelligent at bat. He is what he is, streaky. Still, the ONLY runs early in the game were by Pat. Dammit.

  226. mike Says:

    cxl72
“Chan Ho induced the grounder to Jimmy but then crumbled when his defense let him down. 23 year old rookies do that not 35 year old veterans.”

Did you even watch the game? Second batter hit a blooper..
That’s the way how it goes sometimes.

  227. JeffS Says:

cxl72, I just loved that after being a hero with the HR, Taylor was upset at himself for the other 2 at bats (fly out and hit into a double play). Sounded like someone who REALLY wants to improve.

  228. nate Says:

i can take a little bit of consolation in the fact that a-rod is actually hitting WORSE than jimmy rollins.

  229. cxl72 Says:

I watched Mike and its not only the results its his body language. When adversity strikes he turtles up. Hey, when he’s dealing he’s ok. When there is a hiccup you’re looking at a crooked number that inning.

  230. mike Says:

what body language? You better watch the game again because I didn’t see any. As matter a fact, they didn’t even show the guy on tv after the play.
Obviously, you don’t like the guy period. You are just making excuses to stone the guy.
What is amazing is that everyone is talking about the 8th inning.
The bottom line is that phillies were losing because offense didn’t show up. We did have a chance bases loaded with no outs.. But you know what happened there. JC is another problem. Last 3 outings he is either getting hit or walking people. the guy has WHIP of 2.07.
    Not ACCEPTABLE as a setupman.

  231. j reed Says:

mike-2.07 WHIP, yeah that’s real bad…he’s a set-up man alright, he just sets-up you with baserunners these days. In this case Park . If JC still struggles like this once Eyre returns and Eyre looks decent, then JC should spent some time in Reading to work on his location.

  232. mike Says:

    j reed

Park has been part of the problem when he was a starting pitcher.
Since he has joined the pen, he became a solution and a weapon for Charlie. If you take a look at the heart breaking Baltimore game, Charlie used Park as a setup man. NOT Romero. I think today’s game, Charlie wanted to get an inning out of Romero since he hasn’t been used much and bring in Madson if we score. I think Romero just need to throw strikes same problem park had when he was a starter.

  233. mikeB Says:

Rollins definitely hit the low point of his year so far tonight. I know that Utley is quiet and does not say much but you would think that he would be yelling at Rollins to get the sure out at first base on that late flip to second base. A little leadership would not have hurt in a situation like.

  234. Jason B Says:

Rays take the lead. Take this Bastard out of the game. This sucks.
