Philadelphia Phillies (38-34) at Toronto Blue Jays (41-35)

Jamie Moyer (5-6, 5.97 ERA) vs. Brian Tallet (5-4, 4.36 ERA)
Time: 1:07 p.m at Rogers Centre
Weather: Dome
TV: MY PHL17
Twitter: Phillies Nation

The Phillies look to win their first series since the beginning of June when the took two out of three from the New York Mets.  Hopefully they saved some runs from last night’s offensive outburst.

Jamie Moyer has been very inconsistent this year.  In his last start against the Tampa Bay Rays, Moyer gave up only one run over six innings.  Moyer pitched six innings against the Blue Jays last week.  He allowed six earned runs on ten hits and two walks.

Tallet is coming off a six innings shutout against the Cincinnati Reds. Tallet has faced the Phillies as a reliever, but never as a starter.

Old Scratch Amber LagerYour Gameday Beer:We’re staying in the amber beer category, this time it’s Old Scratch Amber Lager. This malty thirst-quencher is produced by Flying Dog in Maryland, you know, the brewery with the cool labels by Ralph Steadman (of Fear and Loathing fame). This is another beer enjoyed ice-cold on a summer day, but unlike a cold Bud, this has serious – yet balanced – flavor. Pick up some at your local Costco or Sam’s in the variety pack and pair it with Cajun grilled chicken. – By Brian

    NO lets go Jays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Kevin the Canadian Says:

I always know if people are from the states. All I have to do is ask you to say saturday and you will say something like saturday but us Canadians say satinday.

  5. Kevin the Canadian Says:

    For example, yesterday was satinday.

  6. Kevin the Canadian Says:

    strike out ha ha

  7. The Dipsy Says:

Wheels: “Its really nice to get a one run lead in the first inning, especially on the road like this”

    Really?
As opposed to at home where getting a lead is not a such a big deal.

    Freakin moron.

  8. Chuck P Says:

Nice swing there by Big John Stud…

I’m thinking that J-Mo is going to be good today…

  9. NJ Says:

The J-Roll situations getting ridiculous unless he’s injured. I’ve been a big supporter of Bruntlett being a valuable part of the team but his value as a utility guy has plummetd. He’s not playing the kind of D to make up for being an automatic out and right now he helps the team in no way while Jimmy sits. The thing thats got me scratching my head is the guy serves no value once he’s back on the bench. He’s not like a Craig Counsell or a Damien Easley, he’s not an top tier defensive guy who’s a bench guy because he can’t hit and he certainly isn’t a guy you try and find ABs for… Head scratching…

  10. Keith Says:

    eww

  11. Georgie Says:

Oh crap, I just turned the game on and…… Maybe I’m a jinx.

  12. NJ Says:

Looks like Geoff and the other Moyer haters are going to have a field day over this one…

  13. Georgie Says:

Ok, the Phils just have to score some runs.

  14. Kevin the Canadian Says:

What happend I turned on the tv and I saw that my birds were winning how did they score? I wasn’t watching because Sulphy was on.

  15. DJ Says:

Did you all know Victorino is batting .400 in interleague play!

  16. Kevin the Canadian Says:

Did anyone see the new Sulphy episode???? It was great.

  17. DJ Says:

    Ill take that chase!

  18. The Dipsy Says:

I mean, Jamie has to pitch better, no doubt. I don’t know how long Charlie can keep running him out there. He’s having a god awful season. I think one thing Charlie could do is when Moyer is pitching, bring an extra pitcher up from Reading of Lehigh or wherever to possibly absorb innings if Moyer has to go out in the fourth. I’m completely NOT kidding. Bako goes down, pitcher comes up. It would have to be a pitcher where options are not a problem. You just lose a hitter off the bench. Bruntlett is useless, no doubt. I think Ruben will address that this month.

    The Dipsy

  19. Keith Says:

    oh gees Moyer

  20. Terri Says:

WTF?! Is he going to give up a homer in every inning?!?

  21. Keith Says:

    take Moyer out

  22. DJ Says:

I’m sorry Moyer supporters but he has got to go! Yes he got a win in his last start but that was with a 10 spot! He doesn’t have it and staying o0n the team is selfish! He should just retire instead of hurt them

  23. NJ Says:

I know Charlie likes 3 catchers on the roster but Bako’s just eating up a roster spot with a tired pen and flat-footed bench.

  24. Jeff Says:

I know everyone says leave Moyer alone. He is a piece of TRASH. A player thats a compiler over the years. He does not belong in baseball anymore. We have no chance to win if our pitchers keep getting crushed. Moyers is garbage. You piece of trash.

  25. Keith Says:

can Bruntlett get a hit here?

  26. Keith Says:

    hooray Bruntlett!

  27. NJ Says:

and the choir of hate begins… The guy could win back to back starts for an entire month and he’d still be hated on this board.

  28. Mazinman Says:

Nice hit! Thats the kind of thing Jimmy should be doing more.

  29. DJ Says:

    The Beard got a hit!!!!

  30. Mazinman Says:

Good baserunning too on his part. Back to only one run back.

  31. Keith Says:

    alright Victorino, sac fly works

  32. NJ Says:

Nice, way to get something going with the bottom of the order.

  33. DJ Says:

Phillies are playing good small ball right today! Way to chip away

  34. Terri Says:

    Chase!!!!

  35. Keith Says:

    Utley!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. Mazinman Says:

    Utley! Yes!

  37. NJ Says:

Chase Utley you are the man!

  38. DJ Says:

WHOOAAA Utley! Yes Now Moyer better not mess this up

  39. Caleb Says:

    Chase on base!

  40. j reed Says:

whoa, some smal ball…i like it

  41. Evan Says:

Bruntlett did what Rollins never even tries to do.

  42. Keith Says:

    solid inning Moyer

  43. Georgie Says:

Jamie doesn’t look well today, is it hot in there or something, everyone looks like they’re sweating?

  44. Mazinman Says:

This last inning was huge I think. For a moment the Phillies looked the team that could not score and kept allowing runs that have lost all these games for the last couple of weeks. We both took a lead and kept it. Things might actually be looking up after all. If we win this game I am officially optimistic.

  45. DJ Says:

OK I was supporting Mayberry but 5 strikeouts and a DP in the last 2 days! He has to do better and adjust like the pitchers are adjusting to him!

  46. The Dipsy Says:

NJ – cmon man. I hope Moyer turns it around but he doesn’t have much time left. I wish he weren’t so bad but he is. For some reasons the umps aren’t giving him the edges – this is a common refrain – but that really hurts him. And you know what happens to a guy when his two pitches are change up and slower change up when he has to pitch more in the middle of the plate….

    The Dipsy

  47. NJ Says:

Dipsy take the point but we could be doing much worse than Moyer, there’s more to this game than stuff. He’s not going to be an ace but he’s going to give a number of good starts over the course of the year. Has he really been that bad when Cole has pitched something like 2 more innings than him on the year? Most here like to hate when he’s not doing great, scream when he’s bad and bang their hands on their chests when he gives good starts as if it means nothing.

I’m in the Moyer camp until he bottoms out in every category, isn’t the case right now.

  48. Geoff Says:

Come on man…if he did that for a month straight hed get some leeway. Ive given him plenty of leeway after his good string in late May early June. The bottom line is you cant ignore his mediocrity. Today is a mediocre performance at best. If he can do 7 innings with 4 runs, thats a bit better. But 6 innings and 4 runs is not good. You cant factor the offense into that, you have to ask what is Moyer doing? how is HE performing? Run totals go down for all teams in the postseason you know that. The bottom line is all of these 6 inning 4 run performances are NOT good, they are MEDIOCRE. THis is a mediocre performance so far today.

  49. NJ Says:

Geoff most pitchers in this league are mediocre or good and had mostly mediocre starts. Look at Matt Cain’s gamelogs and you’ll see just as many mediocre as good starts. Jamie is usually good enough to beat the other guy, that’s all you can ask for once you get past the front of your rotation… Get over it

  50. The Dipsy Says:

NJ – Cole missed starts due to injury which I think is the reason his IPs are down. How much closer to the bottom does Jamie need to get? If he keeps pitching as is do you keep him in the rotation after the all star break? It looks like Cole, Blanton, Happ, Moyer, and uh, uh, uh, who knows for awhile. Meanwhile, don’t look now, but Jamie might be on his way to earning a “workable” start (I miss Tim).

    The Dipsy

  51. NJ Says:

Geoff why don’t you go and get a job as an assistant to Ruben Amaro since your so sagely about baseball. You just rant and rant and if this team won 100 games you’d still be ranting. If you feel so passionately and that you know so much, go get a job with the team… Prove those of us who get sick of your ranting here wrong

  52. Keith Says:

United States winning 1-0 against Brazil (soccer)

  53. NJ Says:

Dipsy- Cole and Jamie have made the same amount of starts with that inning total. All we need to ask for from Moyer is workable, the offense should be able to handle the rest most nights when he starts. Again we can’t expect potential All-Stars at every spot on the roster.

  54. Geoff Says:

If thats the case then STOP acting like this guy is so freaking wonderful. You just admitted that hes mediocre, so DONT rely on him to be anything more than that, and as the recent rumors and statements from AMaro and Manuel indicate, they aren’t relying on him to be more than that anymore. Theyre going heavily after a workhorse who can perform well and log innings.

So YOU need to get over Moyer and stop acting like this guy is some great thing. Hes a career mediocre pitcher who has impressively hung around long enough to log wins on good teams. But hey, theres so much bad pitching out there that maybe Moyer stands out. Look at the ERA’s, perihperals, and avg innings per start of most of the 3-5 guys in major league rotations and youll see that the majority of them are either mediocre or just bad. and if theyre any better than Moyer that indicates how low he is on the SP totum poll in baseball.

  55. Dave Says:

Okay, if everyone remembers the stats the have Blue Jays against Moyer (even before his last start against him), we all should agree that he should not ever pitch against them. EVER. And I’m one of his bigger fans. Their lineup is tailor-made to hit him

  56. Georgie Says:

Didn’t Cole give up 4 runs the other day when he was tossed? Isn’t he our ace? Just sayin….

  57. Geoff Says:

    who scored for team usa?

  58. NJ Says:

I have never said he’s more than decent or ‘mediocre’ as you so love to put it. If ERA was the be and end all then Jon Lester’s been blowing this year too… Your the one who bleats on about how terrible he is when he isn’t, he isn’t great but he’s a fine book-end.

You have to get over your hatred of so many Phillies players, most of these guys you’ve either trashed or view them as Bo Hart lucky to be around for now and go trade while there’s some value guys.

Maybe if you showed some love you’d get a little love here. All you do is spew hate.

  59. Geoff Says:

I agree Georgie, Cole is a seperate case. He has been a major disappointment this season except few starts. He needs to get his act together and start being that pitcher we all know he can be.

  60. Dave Says:

Okay, that “strike” against Werth wasn’t even in the same area code as the strike zone.

  61. j reed Says:

wow that was dumb ruiz…never steal 3rd with a left handed batter, esp. when Ut is up

  62. Jeff of NoVa. Says:

I love the overacters when it comes to Moyer and others. This team wins all type of ways, just not recently. Moyer is not great but serviceable. They never expected him to be an ace. A LOT OF PEOPLE HERE THINK EVERY PITCHER SHOULD PITCH LIKE AN ACE!!!
Lots of anger, you would think this team was in last place!
Get over yourself, Get a life and learn some things about baseball!

    (steps off soapbox)

  63. NJ Says:

Why was Ruiz leading on a double steal? Your just asking to get nailed trying to steal 3rd with a catcher who isn’t named Russell Martin.

  64. Georgie Says:

Honestly, half the team seems to be emotionally, physically, and mentally drained. I thought it was WS hangover which would go away by this time, but now I’m not so sure.

  65. The Dipsy Says:

NJ – Can’t we all just agree that Moyer is really bad right now and that we’re rooting for him but if he keeps it up he’s gotta get pulled? Nobody wants to see him fail. As we sit here he has a post 6.00 ERA. 3, 4, or 5 starter…you just can’t have that. Can’t have it. If he’s pitching like this at the all start break, I think Reuben will then have to think about a Garland type guy IN ADDITION to a real good starter. I hope it doesn’t come to that. And by the way, if Drabek can put together 4 or 5 more starts like he has in Reading……………

    The Dipsy

  66. NJ Says:

With you on this one Jeff of NoVa, nice to hear another say it.

  67. Geoff Says:

I do NOT hate our players man. Most of them are fine. Just because I dont like their subpar performance doesnt mean I hate them.

I like Lidge, but hes been a major disappointment this year.
I like Hamels, but he needs to get it together.
I LIKE Moyer, but he is what he is and nothing more.
I like Utley even though he appears to be a bit of a b-bag
I like Victorino even though hes a dumba$$ sometimes
I like Werth, Ibanez, Ruiz (he has earned my respect as a player), Coste (even though hes not so great anymore)
I like Howard despite the previous issues (he has shown a greater committment to being a true professional this season)

I DO NOT like Romero & Rollins. If you read the papers those are the guys who always go out drinking during series and after games. Those are the guys who are undermining the authority of the manager and the veteran team leaders. Those are the guys that need out of the clubhouse.

  68. The Dipsy Says:

    Whoaaaaa, Geoff.

    The Dipsy

  69. Geoff Says:

I agree Dipsy…thats all I really try and say about Moyer

I LOVE it in sports when some old man comes out and schools people, thats great to see. I WANT MOYER TO DO WELL.

YES!!! Landon Donovan scores to put USA up 2-0 on Brazil.

  70. NJ Says:

Dipsy- I’ll agree Moyer isn’t great but I’m going to draw the line at serviceable and it’s been a serviceable start that should see him turn the ball over with the lead, it’s not pretty but he’s done his job and has had the back-up there for once.

Do hope the starter added isn’t Jon Garland, can’t be too picky right now though.

    What a play by Wells…

  71. j reed Says:

whoa nice catch…man now that dumb move by ruiz cost us a run…what was he thinking – “they’ll never expect something this dumb to work…”

  72. Mazinman Says:

Nice to see Park back without having to go on the DL.

  73. Keith Says:

    United States winning 2-0

    Clint Dempsey
    Landon Donovan

  74. ll Says:

CHOOCH! what was he thinking? he’s seriously like the slowest runner on the team!! im so mad!

  75. NJ Says:

Geoff how can you say you like these guys when you trash them endlessly. You don’t continually say negative things repeatedly without a positive one in sight and say you like these guys.

You don’t want Moyer to do well, you can’t trash him like you do and then say ‘I want the guy to do well’… You want him to do badly so you can continually trash him.

  76. Mike Says:

They should be in last. This divsion is a joke. If we played in the American League East we would be in last. Moyer is a joke. Cant pitch through 6.

  77. The Dipsy Says:

NJ – Five innings, four runs. Its like a broken record. Now they need four innings out of the bullpen. I mean I’m happy that the Phils are up and all but……

    The Dipsy

  78. Dave Says:

Geoff, when Moyer pitched against Tampa, you claimed it couldn’t be him that pitched that game.

Holy shit, we’re winning against Brazil!

  79. j reed Says:

    holy crap – USA!USA!USA!USA!….

  80. Jeff of NoVa. Says:

    NJ has a point.

One thing to criticize as we all do at times, but many seem to forget that when certain players weren’t playing well last year in the rotation, guys like Moyer are the reason we were in position to win a WS

  81. j reed Says:

yeah, man Howard just made a great save

  82. NJ Says:

I agree it’s not great, I don’t think it’s a terrible situation but I’m looking at his body of work, again not great but I can live with it when I look around the league and the problems other ’superior’ pitchers are having. I just appreciate Moyer as a bookend who I think can come up big in spots and take his licks and not let it hurt his next start.

  83. Jeff of NoVa. Says:

I have said many times now, I think it is time for some of the young system guys to make an appearance, starting with Drabek!

Carrasco would be fine, but I think it would a perfect opportunity before the AS break to see if Drabek can compete yet.

  84. j reed Says:

    way to go Stairs

  85. NJ Says:

That is everything good about baseball. What other sport does an opposing player get cheered like that…

  86. ll Says:

romero better not be in the 7th..oh yeah and if we lose i blame it on chooch!

  87. ll Says:

    park! yes!

  88. NJ Says:

Jeff of NoVa- I’d love to see some of the kids put in the the bullpen in a Jeff Samardzija/Daniel Bard type role.

  89. The Dipsy Says:

Well, respectfully, thats not how I would want to feel about any starter on my team. I think part of the reason nobody cuts Jamie slack is that a lot of fans think he is a smoke and mirrors pitcher who’s, because of his advanced age, has just been living on borrowed time anyway. I understand that. While I admire his body of work, I don’t think he will ever come close to that again. Truth be told, pitching like this, at 46, tends to lead some to believe that he’s washed up, and if he is, lets accelerate the whole process of removing him and move on with someone else. I think Geoff may be in that camp. Which doesn’t make him a bad guy. :)

    The Dipsy

  90. mikeB Says:

Mayberry struck out three times on pitches that were all pretty much in the same location.

  91. j reed Says:

Jeff of NoVa- they are hesitant with Drabek cause of his Tommy John surgery

  92. Keith Says:

    2 solid innings from Park!

  93. NJ Says:

I’ve just looked up Drabek vs Hamels and the kids made around the same number of minor league appearances although Cole was a year older due to all of his injury issues. Maybe the kid is viable right now, would be nice to see a little more than 5 appearances above AA though.

  94. j reed Says:

45 minutes to hold off Brazil

  95. j reed Says:

Tallet looks like Mitch Williams circa 1993

  96. j reed Says:

alright Chooch let’s make up for that boneheaded move

  97. Ed Says:

NJ…the difference is Cole wasn’t coming off Tommy John surgery. I think for that reason alone they are in no rush to bring Kyle up, and I am ok with that.

  98. j reed Says:

    good ab carlos

  99. Ed Says:

How can the Phillies expect to win when 5 guys in the starting line up are batting 253 or below? That’s just awful. I hope they all start to get hot soon. Ibanez can not come back soon enough. Hopefully J-Roll has taken the last 4 days to figure some things out and be the lead off hitter that we know he can be.

  100. NJ Says:

On the trade rumour wonder what the cost would be for Wang, twice 19 game winner who as 8-2 before going down last year… The Yanks do have a numbers issue in their rotation

  101. Geoff Says:

Ok…if the 5th guy in your rotation (Bastardo/Carrasco, Moyer) go 4 runs 6 innings, i guess thats serviceable. But if you have two or three guys doing that its too much of a strain on the bullpen.

Ill concede that. The problem comes when Hamels doesnt do what hes supposed to do. Happ can be more than a back end starter but hes still learning – albeit learning fast. Blanton has shown hes more than that too. The issue is the bullpen is taxed when you have Moyer, the 5th starter, and one of the other starters regularly doing that.

If you view Moyer as the 5th starter and you have other guys pulling their weight then you really need to ask yourself why are they paying someone 16M over 2 years to do what a ROOKIE can do?

I mean, if you dont have anyone else then MAYBE i can see us being that desperate. Overall, if ALL of the other starters are doing better, then it doesnt matter if Moyer is pulling 6IP 4ER jobs. But thats not the case is it? So youre relying on Moyer to be more than he is which is not practical.

  102. j reed Says:

ed-does drabek throw alot of off speed stuff?

  103. Geoff Says:

Wang is risky. IF he can return to past form hed be PERFECT for our ballpark – a hard sinkerball pitcher. But his sinker hasnt been sinking this season. Id prefer someone else though.

  104. CT Says:

quick question for anyone watching… are the Blue Jays’ hats a dark green today, or is it just the lighting? or am i just crazy/color blind?

  105. j reed Says:

nope they are black- check your tv’s color settings

  106. NJ Says:

Ed- For arguements sake Cole saw less minor league time than Drabek has even with Drabek’s TJ surgery. Didn’t Cole break his hand in a bar fight or was that another one of our propsects at the time? Personally in the Phils position I wouldn’t be calling Drabek up any time soon.

  107. Ed Says:

Jreed- Drabek throws a mid to mid high fastball 93-95 usually but can get it around 96-97. He has a plus plus 12-6 curveball which usually comes in around 75-79 and a slider which comes in at the low 80’s.

  108. j reed Says:

wait a second…yeah they do look dark green… CT do you use Verizon for your cable provider

  109. Keith Says:

    boo Brazil scored, 2-1

  110. Kevin the Canadian Says:

come on Jays we can win this!!!!!!

  111. Ed Says:

NJ – It was Cole who broke his hand in a bar fight. You are right in that Cole did see less minor league time but I think the TJ surgery is a big red flag for teams and rightfully so. I really do not think Drabek will make it above AAA this year. I hope he doesn’t. We have some other options, albeit not great options but I would rather we trade for someone rather than risk messing up Drabek by bringing him up too early.

  112. Kevin the Canadian Says:

    all right Rolen

  113. Dave Says:

Ah, they should have kept chp in and let him go for the 3rd inning (i.e. the “save”).

  114. Keith Says:

    Bruntlett sucked there

  115. CT Says:

    oh great, here we go.

  116. j reed Says:

    crud Brazil’s scored

  117. Terri Says:

    OMG Bruntlett!

  118. Kevin the Canadian Says:

lets go Lind hit a home run

  119. NJ Says:

    agree with you there Ed.

  120. Kevin the Canadian Says:

    Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  121. Georgie Says:

Oh man, you KNOW Jimmy would have had that.

  122. Dave Says:

also, can we declare the Eric Bruntlett experiment over yet?

  123. CT Says:

    no don’t put Romero in

  124. Kevin the Canadian Says:

Lets go Jays !!!!!!!!!!! bases loaded

  125. NJ Says:

Am just praying we add a guy like Mark Grudzielanek who’s just sitting out there and won’t cost a draft pick now. Am sad to see how bad Bruntlett’s become, the definition of a jack of all master of nothing player.

  126. joedad Says:

What did Ruiz do? I missed it.

  127. Terri Says:

    Thank YOU!!!!

  128. Keith Says:

    alright Madson! :D

  129. lm Says:

    holy crap! thank you feliz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  130. Geoff Says:

Great job getting out of a jam by Madson….Big test coming up for Lidge. I hope he can return to form. He Has to throw his fastball and locate it and STOP being so predictable with two strikes.

  131. Kevin the Canadian Says:

    we will score next inning.

  132. PGD Says:

the beard is a complete waste

  133. Ed Says:

    Thank G*d.

Anyone actually have faith in Lidge to nail down the save with the top of the order coming up?

    Cause I don’t.

  134. Keith Says:

our goalie just dodged a bullet

  135. lm Says:

yeah – lidge in the 9th scares me with only a 1 run lead

  136. Kevin the Canadian Says:

I wasn’t able to watch the beginning of the game because Sulphy was on.and since I know you are not from Canada you won’t know who Sulphy is ha ha ha Its a Canadian show.

  137. NJ Says:

Great hit by Howard, love how much he’s come on as an all-around player this year and the production hasn’t suffered.

  138. Geoff Says:

theyre lucky this game is still 2-1.

  139. Geoff Says:

team usa needs an insurance goal…

AND the Phillies need an insurance run

  140. NJ Says:

    Boy those Jays can field…

  141. CT Says:

    i feel sick already

  142. Georgie Says:

Not sure if I want to watch this or not-yikes.

  143. Terri Says:

    oh man

  144. Keith Says:

    oh no

  145. Georgie Says:

    Nope, can’t watch…

  146. NJ Says:

wow you’ve got to tip your hat to how good that was by the Jays.

    Tears are building…

  147. Dave Says:

    My, this seems awfully familiar…

  148. Keith Says:

    Brazil tied it, 2-2

  149. j reed Says:

ed-yeah if Drabek features a curve and slider then don’t rush him back …these two pitches are elbow/shoulder tweakers…Hamels is primarily a fastball/change-up pitcher…elbow strain is not a great. Hamel needs to get that curveball or some other pitch mastered because with fastball/change-up combo batters have 50/50 chance of guessing as evidenced by all the foul balls (plus he’s a high ball pitcher). Good hitters are able to work up his pitch counts. A nice yakker could end this. He has been featuring it more lately and it seems to be improving.

  150. Terri Says:

oh lord, is this really happening?

  151. CT Says:

    this sucks

  152. Keith Says:

    take Lidge out

  153. Mazinman Says:

    Ugh…..

  154. Geoff Says:

damnit Lidge, what the HECK is your problem?

  155. Paul Says:

    I’ve got a BAD feeling about this…

  156. j reed Says:

wow, that was a gift to lidge

  157. Geoff Says:

He gets ahead, then throws sliders that the hitter doesnt swing at….phew one out.

  158. Mazinman Says:

    *Deep Breathe* One out…

  159. Mazinman Says:

    Oh wow! Nice move Lidge!

  160. Keith Says:

    OMG!!!!!!!!!!!

whoa what a play by Lidge!

  161. Geoff Says:

    phew…nice pickoff move

  162. j reed Says:

geoff-me thinks he tips his pitches

  163. CT Says:

    that pick off was… wow.

  164. Paul Says:

    Nice!!! One more out please!

  165. Keith Says:

    Phillies win! :D

  166. Mazinman Says:

    Oh thank you baseball gods!

  167. Terri Says:

    YES YES YES!!!

  168. j reed Says:

    alright

  169. Geoff Says:

i think he tips the slider…or he just uses it too predictably which is the same thing. he needs to mix it up…

YES…nice tightroping by Lidge. He REALLY needed that

  170. Paul Says:

    Yes!!! PHEW!!!

  171. NJ Says:

Great way to cancel out that great bunt hit to start the inning.

  172. Philsphan Says:

    LIDGE!!!!!

  173. Keith Says:

    Moyer gets win #252

  174. Georgie Says:

Jeez, I opened my eyes for a second and saw a bunch of Phillies running around the infield!

    Oh yeah!!!! It’s over!!

  175. Jeff Says:

My name is KEVIN AND IM FROM CANADA AND IM A GEEK. LOSSSERRR

  176. Keith Says:

well USA is now losing 3-2

  177. NJ Says:

Way to go! Great team win… Let the Moyer and Lidge bashing commence…

  178. Philsphan Says:

    damnit USA

  179. Mazinman Says:

Nice interview with Lidge in the after game show. Its good to hear that they are aware of Lidge’s weaknesses and are working on it.

  180. j reed Says:

mazinman-i missed the interview, what did they say about Lidge

  181. Mazinman Says:

Lidge said that they had talked about his problems holding runners on base and specifically worked on ways for him to hold them. Probably the only reason he was able to do that pick off.

  182. j reed Says:

    mazinman- thanks.

  183. Mazinman Says:

In general Lidge sounded pretty good. He made no excuses for his prior problems and seemed very aware of what was wrong. Hopefully this will be the beginning of a bounce back for him.

  184. Mazinman Says:

    No problem j reed.

  185. j reed Says:

man, to have beaten Spain and then Brazil…well thank god for the Phillies

  186. Mazinman Says:

Tampa beats the Fish. This is looking like a real good day for the Phils so far.

  187. Mazinman Says:

I just noticed that ESPN is saying as a Rumor that the Phils want Wang from the Yankees. Anyone heard something about that?

  188. j reed Says:

Mazinman-Wang came up earlier in today’s feed. Interesting because at CBP a sinkerballer is a good idea…problem is Wang’s has not been breaking and I don’t think Dubee has the stuff to fix it. I’d feel better about this kind of deal if I felt we had a better pitching coach. Another sinkerballers name that’s been tossed around is Jon Garland. He does come with any hitches. I hope Rueben isn’t trying to work on the cheap with a reclaimation project like Wang esp. mid season.

  189. j reed Says:

Mazinman- in reference to Jon Galand, that’s…
“He doesn’t come with any hitches”

  190. Mazinman Says:

I think Wang might be an interesting pick up. He was good last year but has been terrible so far this year which should push his value down. If we can get him on the cheap it might be worth a try.

I do agree with you in that this should not be the only move Ruben makes. We need to get someone solid as well.

  191. MOAB Says:

what happened, kevin the canadian? did the jays win?

    lolz

  192. Mazinman Says:

Thats why I don’t bother with trolls from other teams here. Victory shut them up quick.

  193. Kevin the Canadian Says:

I am sorry my female private parts were hurting and I had to take some Midol. I am sorry we lost, but the sting from the loss made my estrogen levels soar

  194. A.J. Says:

Chein Ming Wang— I googled this every way possible and only on the MLB Trade Rumors did I find this info. I don’t see it unless he closes down the Mets. Besides, CPB is the WORST place for him…
