jayslogo Toronto Blue Jays (35-31) at Philadelphia Phillies (36-26)
Scott Richmond (4-3, 3.90 ERA) vs. Jamie Moyer (4-5, 6.11 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia
Weather: Rain, 64
TV: Comcast SportsNet, ESPN
Twitter: Phillies Nation

Probably should’ve been a win last night, but you know …

It’s okay, because tonight Jamie Moyer will take on a bunch of guys he hasn’t faced much. Oh wait, he has. The following batting averages against Jamie Moyer since 2004: Marco Scutaro (.379), Lyle Overbay (.462), Aaron Hill (.375), Vernon Wells (.350), Alex Rios (.474), John McDonald (.444), Scott Rolen (.333).

Meanwhile the Phillies have never seen Toronto starter Scott Richmond. There are literally two kinds of results you see when the Phils face a new pitcher: Either he completely dominates them or they thrash him up and down. Richmond is a fastball-slider pitcher who gets killed by lefties (1.055 OPS), so if the meat of the order can do work tonight, it should be an easy victory. Of course, Raul Ibanez is hitting just .220 in his last nine games, and Ryan Howard is hitting .216 with 17 strikeouts in his last 11. Both span back to the series in San Diego.

Clay Condrey’s back still ails, so consider him unavailable tonight. The same might be said for Tyler Walker, who allowed a two-run double in the 10th last night.

Your gamenight beer: Budweiser Budvar. Wait, a good Budweiser? This one is a Czech pilsner, so good luck finding it. But hey, it’s a cool summer lager you can enjoy with any summer fare. I’d go with pizza tonight.

Go Phillies!

  1. Greg V. Says:

The Budvar brewery has been around centuries longer than the Budweiser one. Bud just has the distribution rights to it in the States, where I believe it is refered to as Czechvar. Still a quliaty brew!

  2. Griffin Says:

Holy crap, look at those BAs against Moyer. Could get ugly on national TV for Jamie.

  3. Travis Says:

    From High Cheese:

Chris Coste will start behind the plate tonight in place of Carloe Ruiz with lefthander Jamie Moyer on the mound against Toronto.
Coste will start for the fourth time in Moyer’s last five starts.
Moyer is 4-1 with Coste behind the plate and 0-4 with Ruiz.

    Here is tonight’s lineup:

    1. Jimmy Rollins, SS
    2. Shane Victorino, CF
    3. Chase Utley, 2B
    4. Ryan Howard, 1B
    5. Raul Ibanez, LF
    6. Jayson Werth, RF
    7. Pedro Feliz, 3B
    8. Chris Coste, C
    9. Jamie Moyer, LHP

  4. Travis Says:

Not in Philly, so anyone know if the game is gonna get through with the rain. Is it currently raining?

  5. Travis Says:

Blue Jays placed Roy Halladay, Casey Janssen and Scott Downs on DL. So Phillies facing Brad Mills tomorrow making his MLB Debut. Was like 1-4 with a 4.48 era in triple A.

  6. rob Says:

It’s not exactly pilsner weather out there… you’d do better with a serious, burnt to a crisp stout like Boulder Beer Co.’s Obovoid Empirical.

  7. Travis Says:

Vernon Wells, OF, Blue Jays: Blue Jays hitters have extensive experience — and success — against Jamie Moyer. Wells is one of their standouts, with a lifetime .342 batting average (13-for-38) and two homers versus the left-hander.
    • Alex Rios, OF, Blue Jays: He’s a .474 hitter (9-for-19) with four doubles, one triple and one home run in his career against Moyer.
    • Lyle Overbay, 1B, Blue Jays: The rare lefty-versus-lefty matchup in which you want the hitter. Overbay is a surprising 6-for-13 (.462 BA) with one double, one triple and one home run in his career against Moyer. He’s also a .309 hitter with three home runs, eight RBIs and a .912 OPS in 15 career games at Citizens Bank Park.
Marco Scutaro, 2B/3B/SS, Blue Jays: He’s a .379 hitter (11-for-29) with three home runs in his career against Jamie Moyer.

Philadelphia (Blue Jays-Phillies, 70 percent of Rain).

  8. cm Says:

can it not rain tonight? thanks

  9. j reed Says:

    gird your loins
make sacrifices to the baseball gods

yeah, why they don’t mix up the rotation for more favorable match-ups is beyond me. I mean 5 days rest is nice but not always necessary. Hope Park is available as long man

  10. Travis Says:

should be a slugfest tonight and that aint good for Phillies because bullpen needs rest and need Moyer to go deep against the Blue Jays a team which has sluggers who have destroyed Moyer and that to in CBP a hitters park.

Wow, just checked on MLB.com. Every Blue Jays hitter is hitting .300 against Moyer in his career except for Rod Barajas (.200), Kevin Millar (.143) and Jose Bautista (.000). Not to mention the Blue Jays best player this year has never faced Moyer which is Adam Lind. Should be like the 14-12 Brewers win at Indians on Monday night. Also gotta remember Richmond will either be fantastic against the Phillies or horrendous. He’s never faced the phillies before. Hopefully history proves wrong and Moyer pitches a solid game.

  11. shag beta sigma delta Says:

all you doom and gloomers I have faith in Jamie tonight, he is going mow them down I do not care about history, the middle of line up needs to score more than 3 runs against this guy, like I said before, Moyer 6 innings 2 runs, Park pitches 7 8 9 for the save 7-2.
Some time you gotta have a little faith.
    Go PHillies

  12. j reed Says:

Travis: interesting stat about coste/ruiz/moyer…coste has said he’ll let pitchers call pitches which I am usually dead against unless you’ve got a crafty, cerebal control guy like Moyer…Maybe Moyer’s getting to call the game more so than with Ruiz, and this is contributing in some way to the success behind the stat.

  13. Travis Says:

    Blue Jays Lineup for Tonight:

    1. Scutaro SS
    2. Hill 2B
    3. Wells CF
    4. Rolen 3B
    5. Lind LF
    6. Rios RF
    7. Overbay 1B
    8. Barajas C
    9. Richmond P

Same lineup as yesterday for Jays except Overbay (.462, 1HR against Moyer) replaces Kevin Millar.

  14. Travis Says:

Blue Jays Hitters who have faced Jamie Moyer before have a combined .386 BA, with 6 Homers and 20 RBI

  15. The Dipsy Says:

I, on the other hand, have NO confidence in Jamis tonite. Look for Chan Ho to enter with two outs left in the sixth. He’ll pitch through the 8th and then that Tyler Walker guy will take the ninth. Suffice it to say, I don’t like the Phightins tonite. But I AM looking forward to Chris Wheeler.

  16. The Little Guy Says:

7-1 win tonight for the Blue Jays…i know, but thats my gut feeling.

  17. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Ok guys, we got a game with the Blue Jays tonight. And that only means one thing. Bad News for the Blue Jays!

  18. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Well, this could be an omen. But I spent two and half months of my life in Budejovice, CZ. And drank plenty of Budvar there. It is absolutely great there. But when I get it here, about 50% of them are skunked. Kind of like Jaime Moyer outings. There is a good chance that it can be a gem, but there is also a chance it can get really ugly. And like a skunked beer, you know right off the bat.

  19. j reed Says:

anyone know who’s calling the game….does he have a pro-moyer strike zone

  20. Griffin Says:

    Moyer looking sharp

  21. j reed Says:

oh boy! big bats might have to carry us home tonight

  22. Griffin Says:

    Moyer looking real sharp

  23. Miles Says:

This sucks. So much for giving the pen rest. Could be a long one again tonight folks.

  24. Adam Says:

hey, at least he’s throwing strikes. right?

  25. The Little Guy Says:

    Told you 7-1 Jays tonight

  26. Jeff Says:

This is a disgrace. Im glad I dont have season tickets anymore. You should not have to pay watch a pitcher like Moyer. He gives us no chance to win.

  27. The Little Guy Says:

Why doesn’t Coste ever throw the ball like a baseball player, i guess he likes being on his knees?

  28. Griffin Says:

Moyer, can you at least hold the runners on? If the runners hadn’t stolen, that ground ball by Rios would have been a double play!!!!!

  29. Jeff Says:

DAM RUBIN do something with this pitching staff already. Before its to late. Get rid of Moyer, move Bastaro to the pen and make a trade. My god down 3 already and the bullpen tired. This is a joke.

  30. John Fire Says:

That’s it. Sell the GD farm… we need some friggin’ pitching!!! AAAAAGHHHH!!

  31. Miles Says:

It’s amazing the difference you can tell with a team like Toronto where most of these guys have faced Jamie a bunch. He isn’t even missing his spots but they are locked in to everything he is throwing. He is gonna have to really battle tonight to keep us in it.

  32. Jeff Says:

watch how fast we go 1 2 3 in the first.

  33. Miles Says:

Jeff where were you at for Moyer’s last 4 starts (which were all quality starts)? I’m tired of everyone jumping on Moyer and Blanton when they have a bad start when they totally ignore every time they do something right. It’s the first freaking inning everyone.

  34. j reed Says:

with the O’s up next, they should have moved the rotation around…the match-ups aren’t in Moyer’s favor.

  35. j reed Says:

could this Richmond work any slower….

  36. The Checkered Demon Says:

MOYER SHOULD DO THE NOBLE THING — retire !!!!, AT THIS POINT, HE IS STEALING MONEY FROM US. Damn shame.

  37. Griffin Says:

The Orioles are a better hitting team than the Jays.

  38. Matt Says:

get this man off the mound and into a retiring home.

  39. Griffin Says:

Damn it. I wanted at least one there.

  40. Joshua Says:

thats pathetic…all the guys who struck out swung at balls outside the strike zone!Howard even let up on that pitch!

  41. Miles Says:

We are gonna score off this dude. He can’t throw a breaking pitch for a strike and his fastball was up in the zone. If we continue to be patient and work the count we are gonna get back in this one real soon.

  42. Jeff Says:

Oh stop Miles. you could hit Moyer. His last four starts. 2 were against Florida and Washington. He did pitch well against the Dodgers but gave up 8 hits and 3 runs to the Mets. Against a good team he has no chance…LIKE TONIGHT DIP

  43. Morris Buttermaker Says:

“We are gonna score off this dude. He can’t throw a breaking pitch for a strike and his fastball was up in the zone. ”

I think you meant to say, this guy can’t throw a breaking pitch for a strike and his fastball was up in the zone which means our guys will take a bunch of real ugly hacks against him. and strike out.

  44. Miles Says:

Matt, Jeff, and Checkered Demon….your whining about Moyer is very unwarranted. He had a terrible stretch earlier this year but has been pitching just fine over the last month. Aside from tonight obviously. The point is that his numbers are very similar to Cole’s over the last month so you can’t just choose to constantly complain about Moyer when other members of the rotation are posting similar numbers.

  45. Jeff Says:

yea ok Miles by that time we will be down by 7. Moyer wont get out of the second or third.

  46. shag beta sigma delta Says:

I am sorry but Moyer did not get those pitches called strikes below the belt. That 3-1 count on Raul was a ball for Moyer, these umps are getting really bad with inconsistancies, let’s hear it Geoff, I can take it. The guy is not going to throw strikes 2-0 3-1 to the lefties, they should just take the walks, Chase, and Raul swinging at sliders in the dirt. But if this Ump is going to make Jamie throw pitches above the belt in order to get a strike called it is going to be a long night.
And i do not want hear how Richmond is a good pitcher, he is not, he been given a few gifts already at the plate but this offense should rock this guy, if they make him throw real strikes

  47. The Dipsy Says:

Well, I don’t know if you can really carry a guy with a 6.50 era into July, if Jamie can get that far. I don’t care if you’re Cy Young. Three months is enough time to “get out of your funk”. As I write this Barajas has hit a home run. OK, back to my post. As they say in the GM biz…”its dialin’ time”. Gentlemen….start your fingers.

    The Dipsy

“Always striving to make the Phillies a better team”

  48. shag beta sigma delta Says:

Stop the hating Moyer already, one bad inning, after three stellar starts and you jumping off the bridge. Give the hating a rest,

  49. Jeff Says:

Stop making excuses…ITS TIME FOR MOYER TO HANG IT UP. Teams love hitting him. I heard Wells today on a toronto channel. He said its like batting practce..

  50. Miles Says:

Jeff what exactly warrants a “good team” to you? Just a team that beat us last night? Because coming into this game the Jays hadn’t won a game in interleague and have very similar offensive numbers to all of the teams you just named (Washington, FLorida, NYMutts). Sooo I don’t really know what you are trying to say.

Listen the guy is pitching bad tonight but I have never seen anything like the people who come out in droves on here and bash Moyer when he has a bad night.

  51. Rich Says:

Put a stamp on it and mail this one in to the league as a loss.

  52. Miles Says:

Alright Jeff just stop watching the game then. Obviously you had decided after the Jays scored their first run tonight that we were not going to win, so why watch? Oh and did we go 1,2,3 as you suggested in the first? Cmon dude you know how this team can hit and come back in games so just get over it and either turn off the TV or stop being so damn negative.

  53. Griffin Says:

Even the black Dr. Evil, who is in a terrible slump, is scorching the ball

  54. The Dipsy Says:

Listen to me guys I am actually leading in my fantasy league and I should be a MLB GM. Moyer stinks, hes so old and stinky, I think he needs to hang it up so we can get aaron cook, he’s just great aint he.

    The Dipsy

“Always striving to be a bigger douche”

  55. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Is it possible for a guy to retire in the middle of a game?

  56. Griffin Says:

    Let’s go Orioles.

  57. The Big Dipper Says:

Rod Barajas really likes beating up on the Phillies, he sucked here yet is doing quite well in Canada, either there is something in the water up north or he is roiding and got some explaining to do.

    The Big Dipper

  58. Morris Buttermaker Says:

“one bad inning, after three stellar starts ” Is Moyer pitching for another team also?

The guy has one win in 6 weeks.

  59. Jeff Says:

Miles are you crazy. He has a era over 6. When a pitcher gives up 3 run in a first inning you give your team no chance. He does more and more. When is it enough. Do you see these pitches they are hitting. Even the outs are getting crushed.

  60. nate Says:

now they make the whole thing more unbearable by showing the WS walkoff.

  61. Miles Says:

Morris since when do wins actually mean anything? Jamie and Cole both have 4 wins this year. I think you would be the first to say that Cole has been more effective than Jamie. Wins have little to do with a pitcher’s performance. Andrew Carpenter won a game against the Nats and he gave up 5 runs and couldn’t even get through 5 innings.

  62. george Says:

Man the Phils need to do something with moyer soon we can’t keep putting him out there and relying on him to give us quality start when we know he isn’t…Either move him to the bullpen or talk him into retirement.

  63. John Fire Says:

Thank you, Jaime Moyer, for your years of service. I’ve heard a rumor that some kids down in Triple-A were asking about you. what say you head down there and be a mentor and leave the major league starting pitching to some other folks, huh?

  64. j reed Says:

griffin: nope Jays hit better [at least statistically] than O’s
    HR AVG RBI SLG
    68 .267 277 .422 O’s
    71 .277 316 .438 Jays
don’t know the moyer vs. O’s stats. but the one’s Travis put up for the Jays vs. moyer are ugly.

  65. Joshua Says:

Well atleast the Mets are losing

  66. The Checkered Demon Says:

I took a quick nap in dispair regarding Ole Jamie Moyer. I had a dream that he developed a knuckleball that was quite outstanding. In the dream he said he was working on the pitch for a decade and finally rolled it out. He won back-to-back no-hitters. Please do not pince me.
Moyer is the perfect pitcher to have a knuckler.

  67. Miles Says:

Jeff I’m not saying Moyer is a Cy Young candidate here….but there is a big difference between a guy who should retire and someone who can still win ballgames. Eaton should retire. He can’t get anyone out, ever. If you take out Moyer’s horrible three start stretch where he gave up 5+ runs each time out his ERA is the same as every other starter on the staff, including the supposed ace.

Listen he’s obviously slipping but he still can pitch in the majors. That’s all I’m trying to say. And I don’t understand why we have twice as many comments on this board when we lose games then we do when we win games. Somehow even just a few months after a WS championship and with a lead in the division we still have a very negative fanbase.

  68. The Big Dipper Says:

Yeah lets get rid of Moyer and let Carpenter or Kendrick start, they are great and will do fantastic just like Bastardo has already.

Everyone shut up, he is our best option and will continue to pitch. If we do acquire another starter they will replace Bastardo not Moyer. This is the same team that got some hits off Cole last night and have had some good luck with ground balls getting through the holes today.

    The Big Dipper

  69. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Wins means you are not giving up a lot of runs, and you are pitching deep into games. You have a better chance of winning the game if you do one of those two things. Jamie Moyer does neither.

  70. The Checkered Demon Says:

He Miles, I am not good at much, but give me someting to whine about and my skills come out. Anyway, you must be a good whiner to whine about our whining. Respectfully —Checkered Demon

  71. Morris Buttermaker Says:

    Thank god for Alex Rios.

  72. Miles Says:

    Great baserunning

  73. Jeff Says:

Miles he cant win ball games. Are you for real. He gives us no chance. Its like batting practice. He is KILLING THIS DAM TEAM. Please dont bring hamels up. There is a BIG difference. Hamels can get batters out. Yes he is in a funk but he is a big time pitcher. Moyer should of never been on this team this year. He does not give us any chance to win. There is no confidence with the players when he pitches.

  74. Miles Says:

    What are you doing Jimmy….

  75. nate Says:

ugh… well if the leadoff hitter can’t even bunt, i can’t fault the pitcher.

  76. The Big Dipper Says:

And really everyone needs to let Jeff Carter go, it was 16 years ago and it was game 6 not game 7, even if we won that game we still had to win another one.

We have won our championship and got the monkey off our back so let it go. It gets treated like Buckner for the Sox, and they let it go after they won theirs.

    The Big Dipper

  77. Morris Buttermaker Says:

I am getting tired of the lazy and stupid baseball the Phillies play at home.

  78. Miles Says:

I first met Jamie as a young boy when I attended Camp Erin. I was grieving the loss of my pet hambster, Lefty, when he first reached out to me and touched my life in the way that only he can. The inevitable happened and we became lovers. It turned out to be the greatest summer a 12 year old boy could ever have. I’ll never forget our forbidden love. So, no matter what happens, no matter how bad he pitches, I will always be there for him. Through thick and thin. GO JAMIE GO!

  79. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Look at that patience at the plate. What discipline.

  80. The Big Dipper Says:

Glad the offense is showing up at home once again,

Really 5 stirkeouts versus this scrub?

    The Big Dipper

  81. Eli Says:

aha Who is this character the dipsy? both of them actually. The one who actually thinks he is smart and the funny one making fun of him.

  82. Miles Says:

Jeff what about his 7 innings of 2 run ball against the “best team in baseball” out in L.A.? What about his start against the Mutts last week? I guess he gave us no chance in either of those games, either. You can’t just ignore a large number of games to prove your point. But I guess we will just have to agree to disagree at this point because I’m tired of the argument.

  83. Jeff Says:

Boy this pitcher looks like Cy.

  84. The Big Dipper Says:

    Make that 6 stirkeouts, FML

Everyone is complaining about the Pitching but with a team that averages over 5 runs per game this game is still quite winable seeing as it seems Moyer has settled down.

    The Big Dipper

  85. John Fire Says:

Why have we struck out six times already in the third inning to this chump? There are some cracks in the armor, my friends…

  86. Miles Says:

wow really guys….alright I’m outta here. And just so you know my family contributes tons of money to Camp Erin and the fact that you would even include it in a post making me is about the scummiest thing I can think of. I hope you enjoyed trying to prove your point in a mature way though. I’ll be back on this board when I read posts and see that there are actually still some Phillies fans left on here who want to analyze the game and not just bash the players and fellow posters.

  87. Brian of CO Says:

Our home record is beyond BAD. its humiliating. Forget about bashing Moyer, if he can go 2 more innings without giving up more runs, thats a workable start. The HORRIBLE thing is, the Phils offense is stagnent right now. Be worried about the home record, not Moyer. If the Phils dont start winning at home, we will fall out of first quick and not get it back. Moyer isnt the only problem and is far from our biggest problem. I am more concerned about the Phils not winning at home. Anymore, If I see that the Phils are playing at home, I mark it as a loss. Not who is pitching, but where they are playing.

  88. Jeff Says:

You think the Dodgers are a great team. What are you smoking. Its like what Kruk said last night. Dodgers are just a product of a horrible NL this year. Please….Besides Manny who scares you on the Dodgers. Loney would be batting 8th on the Yankees.

  89. Brian of CO Says:

Jeff, really Moyer is the ONLY player that is “KILLING” the phils? I didnt know he pitched every game this season. Have you not looked at the LACK of run production when Moyer pitches? Moyer is NOT, let me repeat NOT supposed to be our ace. Excluding 2 HORRIBLE starts, he has been workable. Workable meaning giving up 4 runs in 6 innings. We want better, but its workable. The real problem is the Phils dont score when hes on the mound. When he is on the mound, the Phils have only scored more than 3 runs 3 times out of ALL of his starts this season. Is he AWESOME? NO. He has been workable.

  90. The Big Dipper Says:

    6 stirkeouts
    2 bad bunts
    1 walk
    3 singles

That is a horrendous offensive output and no one posts about this, just Jamie’s rough night. Not to mention he has settled in.

    The Big Dipper

  91. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Time to start putting up some runs on this career minor leaguer.

  92. j reed Says:

the checker demon: I like it: Moyer the Knuckleballer…People say its a gimmick pitch but its done Wakefield well esp. as a Yankee killer….you can pitch forever and when your retired you can still lift a cup coffee with your throwing arm…anyone know how old the Nikero bros. were when they hung up their cleats…

  93. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Is anybody going to let the Phillies batter know that this guy can’t throw a strike?

  94. The Big Dipper Says:

That longball from Werth would have been better if Ibanez hadn’t just cleared the bags from that DP.

  99. Joshua Says:

  100. j reed Says:

    7 k’s….they’re killing me

  101. j reed Says:

    make that 8

  102. NJ Says:

    8 K’s through 68 pitches… Horror to watch

  103. shap Says:

Can they swing at any more balls out of the zone tonight?

  104. Jeff Says:

GREAT JOB JIMMY, 3-1 COUNT AND YOU SWING AT BALL AT YOUR HEAD. Move him down old man. maybe we should just keep playing ping pong with our minor league teams. Bring Kendrick up again or hey maybe someone else. This team has no clue what they want. stop grasping and come up with a plan.

  105. j reed Says:

NJ – really 68 pitches….when all else fails just blame Canada

  106. NJ Says:

A career minor leaguer is making a star studied offense look like minor leaguers… Milt?

  107. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Jimmy really made the most of that 3-0 count. His pop-ups are looking better. Getting them a little bit deeper.

  108. Tim Malcolm Says:

Come on guys, don’t post under other people’s names. Keep doing it and I’ll take action.

  109. Morris Buttermaker Says:

At what point are we allowed to admit that Milt Thompson is a horrible hitting coach? Let me know when it is ok. Because I will admit it.

  110. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Ok, it’s the 6th inning, the Phillies will start hitting soon.

  111. Adam Says:

So I was getting tired of all the “get rid of moyer now!” talk…have we all taken a step back from the ledge? Our #5 pitcher now has 6 innings and 4 ER…exactly what you expect from him.

  112. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Isn’t Moyer our 3rd starter? Or are we just claiming to have 3 #5’s?

  113. Adam Says:

Id say we have a 1, 3, two 4’s, and a 5. If we still had brett, then it would be evened out

  114. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Just thinking that Blanton is our 2, Moyer is our 4, and then Happ and Bastardo are 4 and 5 made me realize how much the Phillies do need to trade for a starter.

  115. Morris Buttermaker Says:

    Moyer our 3 I mean.

  116. Eli Says:

    I love this new Dipsy.haha

  117. NJ Says:

I hope I’m not perceived as one who just bitches and moans but I just don’t get how Milt and Charlie as a former hitting coach can let so many nights of bad fundamentals just slide. What happens in each at bat is one thing but night after night poor plate discipline is being ignored. There’s so much good and boy would it be something special if some of those bats started using a little more baseball smarts.

  118. cm Says:

moyer’s pitch count is pretty low so hopefully he’ll be able to go the 7th …but this rain sucks!! can there ever be nice weather for a phillies game??

  119. The Dipsy Says:

Tim, how dare you threaten to take action against The Dipsy, you need me on this site, you want me on this site, you can’t even enjoy the site without me and my snarky signature and catch phrase. This is like Fight Club and I say and do everything you wish you could.

    The Dipsy

“Always striving to keep people coming to PhilliesNation.com”

  120. Morris Buttermaker Says:

The Phillies are looking like a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest.

  121. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Milt Thompson is a career .274 hitter. A hitting coach should at least be a carreer .300 hitter, or at least .290.

  122. Jeff Says:

Your right Adam about Moyer. BUT GUESS WHAT. Giving three runs up in the first makes some hitters put there heads down. The other pitcher also take a little pressure off.

  123. Joshua Says:

    PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!

  124. Eli Says:

Morris thats not true, “those who can’t, teach”

  125. The Big Dipper Says:

I’m with you CM, it seems like everytime the Phillies come in for a homestand the rains follow and stick around until the Phils hit the road.

I was at all three Sox games over the weekend and it was a tough weekend Phillies and weather wise.

    The Big Dipper

  126. Adam Says:

“If I need directions, I’m asking the guy with one leg. He knows the best way to get anywhere! And you know you wont be jumping over any fences or anything.” One of my favorites from Dave Attel.

  127. Grrrumpy Miner Says:

Its only 4-1 top 7,far from over

  128. NJ Says:

The Phillies are looking like a toothless tranny in a miss america contest…

  129. Jeff Says:

your right Adam once again. 6-1 doesnt look so bad..RIGHT YOU LOSER

  130. cm Says:

yikes…just went from bad to worse

  131. Jeff Says:

LOL They are a joke. I cant wait for Moyer to pitch again against Tampa. Thats so much fun. NOT

  132. j reed Says:

    even my mom is pissed….ouch

  133. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Just ask the Phillies, it is hard to hit homeruns in this weather.

  134. Jeff Says:

Hey Phillies its easy when your playing pathetic National league teams. See what happen when a good hitting teams come in. YOU LOSE

  135. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Ok, I am on the bandwagon. Wheels and T-Mac do suck.

  136. shag beta sigma delta Says:

I been trying to watch this game while at work, and for all you Moyer haters, the phillies need to score more than on run on this AAA pitcher to take a little pressure of Moyer sht just saw he gave up a 2 run dinger in the 7th, anyway if this game was 5-4 going into this inning he would not even be out there. 6 innings four runs is not great barly good if you are some people on this site. But the guy is going to give you 3 out of 5 good starts.
and back to he has won in 6 starts guy earlier, wins is the worst stat for a pitcher, you lose a game 3-2 and it was a bad game. The guy is your 4 -5 pitcher, he gives up 3 or 4 runs even 5 with what this offense is suppose to do that is keeping you in most games. This game was lost by terrible at bats by Ryan, Chase, and yes even Raul. These guys should be smoking this guy.

Not that it is over we can score 6 -7 runs in an inning so I still believe but you Moyer haters really need to get a grip.

  137. NJ Says:

I’m really feeling for Moyer, the guy hasnt been given anything to work with all year. Sure he’s not lights out but a potential Cy Young winners going to look just as bad in the situations he’s finding himself in.

  138. The Little Guy Says:

7-1 win tonight for the Blue Jays…i know, but thats my gut feeling.

    Damnnnn what i tell you?

  139. Greg V. Says:

I shut this one off. Great time to catch up on some pornos I have lying around.

  140. Eli Says:

What is this weather talk? PEople realize that both teams are playing in it, right?

  141. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Yea, who cares about wins. We need fake stats like quality starts and VORP.

  142. Morris Buttermaker Says:

    Worst Stump the Fans ever.

  143. The Big Dipper Says:

Hey Jeff, are you a phillies fan? or do you just enjoy whining about them?

    The Big Dipper

  144. j reed Says:

is it me or do ex-phillies come here and bitch slap us.

  145. John Fire Says:

I know it’s not true, but it looks like these guys aren’t even trying anymore. Hard to watch… Nine k’s? Against THIS numb nuts?

  146. The Little Guy Says:

    Apparently Jeff likes to whine.

I guess he hasn’t seen the stat about american league teams OWNING the NL, so i guess its an abberation that the Phillies continue to struggle against AL teams. (I mean, except that WS, didn’t they take 4 of 5? Oh yeah, right, they did, and they won a big Trophy, called the World Series Championship)

Front running fans like Jeff are a disgrace :] YATE

  147. shag beta sigma delta Says:

And some of you wonder why JRoll called you band wagon fans, maybe really not the right word. But some of you on here are really crazy after every 2 or 3 bad games. You need a little more faith, and stop being so negitive. I am not saying everything is rosy in philyland, this is Moyer’s first bad start in his last 4 starts, and even if he did not get those wins, he keep them in the games

  148. Morris Buttermaker Says:

    Sweet! A pop-up!

  149. The Little Guy Says:

shag! I said that earlier hahaha, right on chief.

  150. cxl72 Says:

Our offense is on its annual June vacation. I hope its comes home soon and is well rested with a nice tan.

  151. Morris Buttermaker Says:

The only thing worse than watching a game like this is watching a game like this and being on a diet.

  152. Matt Says:

Morris asked if a player can retire in the middle of a game…didn’t Kruk do that when he got his career average to .300?

  153. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Since when does being a Phillies fan mean not criticizing them?

  154. shag beta sigma delta Says:

you missing the point on wins a stat for pitchers, if a guy loses a game 1-0 and a guy loses a game 13-2 they are two entirely different performances. Or a guy goes 7 2/3 and has a 1-0 lead and leaves with a guy on first and second the pen comes in a gives up a dinger the guy gets the loss. I know these are extreme situations but i exaggerate to prove a point. Yes your ace needs to be a shut down guy and not give up any runs if you offense can’t score. but your 4th 5th pitchers are going to give up 3 4 or even 5 runs that is why they are 4 and 5 pitchers. Run support has a lot to do with as does your bull pen, i know this game is 7-1 and Moyer did not pitch good today does not mean he sucks. that makes you look like a band wagon fan or a new yorker.
Plus 5 hits and what 9K against a AAA pitcher is just not good enough

  155. Gavin Says:

Realistically why is this team so bad at home? It makes no sense to me.

Too much pressure? Gimme a break.

Not enough pressure? Never heard of that before.

Too busy a schedule being the world champs? Maybe the first week, but now? No way.

    I really dont get it.

And please just put Rollins in the 6th spot and leave him there. He’s a great SS who is having a bad year at the plate. We shouldnt all have to suffer through it with him. Putting him in th leadoff spot is not going to help him get out of it.

  156. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Krukker did do it. He got a single and left the game. It was when he was with the White Sox.

  157. The Little Guy Says:

Matt, Schmidt retired after a game against the Padres i believe.

  158. The Little Guy Says:

It was either the Padres or Giants.

  159. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Would you honestly say that Moyer has had more good starts than bad starts this year?

  160. j reed Says:

So this guy Richmond will a have a complete game against the World Series champs…even the “glass half fullers” have to be wincing….

  161. Gavin Says:

Also, I live in SC and I’m too cheap to pay $200 for the MLB package on TV that shows no Phillies home announcers, so I rarely get to watch them. Tim….can you find out what their record is on national TV? I really dont know if I’ve watched them win a game this year other than against the Braves.

  162. shag beta sigma delta Says:

I am not saying you can not criticize them, I am saying you can not say this guy sucks after on bad start in 4, or the team is a disaster after one or 2 or even 3 bad games. And maybe give some real input into what you feel will help. and not just “we need to sell the farm for an ace” that is short sighted.

And I say lets have a 8 run 8th just for shits and giggles. And watch half of you band wagoners change your tune. Oh this team is unstoppable, sounds like muts fans

  163. OZ Says:

Uggghhhh. How are our minor league affiliates playing?

  164. Dan Says:

    MOYER SUCKS.

  165. j reed Says:

i spoke to soon…looks like activity in Jays bull pen

  166. The Little Guy Says:

shag, speak your mind young fella. Haha. I’m loving it.

  167. shag beta sigma delta Says:

next I am going hear on here that JB had to good starts now he is going to get bombed, you know negativity spreads haven’t you ever watched Ghostbusters, or was it Ghostbusters II with the negitive slim in NYC

  168. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Why are they even taking a bat up to the plate with them?

  169. The Big Dipper Says:

Ibanez is hitting a huge slump, 0-3 tonight with two strikeouts and 1 GIDP.

I guess he is finally coming back down to earth.

    The Big Dipper

  170. Jeff Says:

Love to whine. Its great getting our butts kicked against an average AL team.

  171. Morris Buttermaker Says:

An ace would be nice. But I would settle for a guy we can seriously claim is a #2.

  172. shag beta sigma delta Says:

Is any going to deny this team should be killing Richmond at the plate, one run five hits you reallly have to be kidding me. Hope the bats show up tomorrow, and if we can find a way to win, then sweep Baltimore, that would be 5-4 at home against the American League.

Wait stop think in the moment 8 run 8th

  173. shag beta sigma delta Says:

ok 8 run 9th ha ha my fault

  174. Morris Buttermaker Says:

They are debating whether or not to let Richmond pitch the 9th? Hell, I would let him pitch tomorrow.

  175. The Little Guy Says:

Morris, good call. His curve is dirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrty.

  176. mg52 Says:

I kinda am wincing, J Reed. What it comes down to is that the Phils don’t often make in-game adjustments. They went up against a relatively unknown pitcher tonight who did throw well and have since been unable to string together base hits and create runs. They seem to be using the exact same approach that they used last game…and the game before that…and the entire season, really.
Good teams, especially those trying to repeat as champions, do not come out with the same agenda day in and day out. They study pitchers before, during and after games and decide if they want to be patient, aggressive, elaborate, compact, fiery, cool…and so on. In short, they adapt.
I always look at how many good soccer teams don’t try to take miraculous shots at goal and permit the other team to dominate them the rest of the time – but instead hold possession for a long time with crisp passes and subsequently break down the defense. This Phils team has to do the equivalent – map out a way to scratch out runs and keep the pressure coming.
I would have liked Moyer to pitch deeper into the game despite his struggles so that the bullpen could have taken some time off. We’ll just have to wait and see. Manuel has discussed the need for a top-line starter. I am beginning to think that they should do anything they can to get him. That, to me, does not necessarily mean dealing the best prospects – but possibly removing someone from the starting line-up. It should not be rushed, but a good pitcher will be worth a helluva lot for this ballclub.

  177. shag beta sigma delta Says:

well the real pen got a rest tonight, except Durbin, so is that a positive. JC, Condrey, Madson all got another day off, as well as Chan Ho

  178. The Little Guy Says:

One thing i did notice with Richmond, the only pitch he threw for a called-strike was his fastball, his curve and slider just broke completely out of the zone.

  179. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Here is what I said about Richmond at 7:39

“I think you meant to say, this guy can’t throw a breaking pitch for a strike and his fastball was up in the zone which means our guys will take a bunch of real ugly hacks against him. and strike out.”

  180. Shawn Victorino Says:

i just hope they get one run outta this so that little guys prediction is wrong!!!!

  181. Morris Buttermaker Says:

How come nobody boos at the stadium anymore? Werth should be hearing it now.

  182. The Little Guy Says:

    This dudes alllllll tattttted up

  183. Morris Buttermaker Says:

    Interleague play at home sucks.

  184. The Little Guy Says:

Damn Victorino, not even rooting for me? I knew i shoulda bet haha

  185. NJ Says:

Well Jays fans will be raving about Richmond’s strikeoots…

  186. j reed Says:

mg52-couldn’t agree more…its not that the team isn’t good, it just they could be better if not dominate if we could manufacture runs….it s a headier brand of baseball that we don’t tend to play eventhough we are more than capable. As for giving up position players for pitching…I’m not a fan of it since have such a high failure rate…you can get really burned like we did with Garcia…Speaking of miraclous soccer shots, did you see the bicycle kick in the North Korea and Saudis game.

HEY LITTLE GUY: NICE PREDICTION….I’ll vouch for it as i read the orginal post.

  187. The Little Guy Says:

    Ha thanks reed, lucky guess.

  188. j reed Says:

Batalico- Myers is considered to have one of the best curves in mlb

  189. Dennis of VA Says:

The Phillies have a serious problem with their pitching, their hitting at home is just terrible and yes Jroll needs to be sent down to the 6th spot! They lack that fire because they are WFC’s!

  190. 4daysrest.com Says:

This is just one of those nights where you don’t know which way to turn after a loss. Everything was terrible.

Moyer was getting hit around like it was batting practice and it could have been even worse. He failed to give the bullpen much of a rest again.

Raul Ibanez is just TERRIBLE lately. I never thought I’d say this, but he is just miserable to watch lately with all of these strikeouts.

These lefthanded hitters kept swinging at a curveball that was a BALL almost every time. It’s just so frustrating when you’re sitting on a couch watching this shit. As Phillies fans, we rise and fall too much with every win and loss. I know this better than anyone. The problem is, these losses are just miserable.

  191. shag beta sigma delta Says:

OK a sort of bad game yesterday, a truly terrible game tonight, the season must be over, let’s just trade JRoll, Vic, Howard, for a bunch of prospects, then throw Cole and JB for some young pitching, then we can start all over again, I can wait another 28 years for WS. Cause these guys are the worst team I have ever seen in my 38 years of being a Phillies fan. Maybe we can just swap the whole team for the Pirates team, talent in the minors, yea that would work for me

  192. shag beta sigma delta Says:

At least Baltimore kick the mutts ass tonight. So we are still 3 up in a very weak division, could it be possible, the weakest division in baseball right now, NL West is pretty bad, so is the AL west, but is the NL East really that far ahead of them

  193. 4daysrest.com Says:

Clearly it’s not that bad. But my point was that this is miserable baseball to watch right now.

And I DID say that as Phillies fans, we rise and fall too much with every win and loss. It’s sort of in our blood given the rollercoaster rides these teams put us on.

  194. shag beta sigma delta Says:

and Feliciona got the lose that is nice, at least we are not losing ground is that positive or what

  195. shag beta sigma delta Says:

That was not directed at you 4daysrest. Just the chosen few who jump off bridges and say things like Moyer sucks, yes he did tonight, but he has pitched servicable last few starts and had two really good starts as of late

  196. 4daysrest.com Says:

Is “serviceable” going to win the Phillies another World Series? I am happy when Moyer gives you his standard 6 innings and 3 runs because this lineup can usually put up more runs than that, but this team can’t afford to have him give up 6 or 7 runs every 3rd time out.

  197. shag beta sigma delta Says:

ah everyone all mad at the terible game they played tonight, no one talking anymore
I have to say I ll give up to you tonight, you were right Moyer got rocked,
Saying that does that mean he will pitch well his next start.

An observation maybe these american league guys know how to pitch Raul, and that is why he is in a slump. If he can come out of it in the next week, maybe split up the lefties again, Werth with the exception of his last at bat seems to be coming around, do we go back to Utley, Howard, Wreth, Raul for awhile,

  198. shag beta sigma delta Says:

It did last year, Moyer was not awesome last year, and you really need only two studs and two servicable guys to get you through the playoffs, If JB keeps it up he is almost a 2, not saying we don’t go out and get a guy to fill in the rotation, but if Moyer is your 4th starter that would work in the playoffs
Like I have posted before, the front office made some good moves last year, so why doubt them now. They are not going to give up too much for a pitcher who is only going to play this year, they are taking their time, I say have a little faith in the FO and see what they do.
Like I said in the off season the Raul signing, I will wait and see, and despite his recent slump that seems to have worked out pretty well so far, so I still believe they will make the right move, and not mortgage their future

  199. metheadfred Says:

Well well Jamie pitching batting practice again…who’d thunk it…6.5mil
    J Ro can’t catch a hit or a ball ………………………………………………7.5mil
Biff Hamel’s wife won’t let him pitch past 6 innings………………….4.35mil
