Gamenight: Phillies (31-20) At Dodgers (37-18)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Thu, June 04, 2009 08:25 PM
Philadelphia Phillies (31-20) at Los Angeles Dodgers (37-18)
Cole Hamels (3-2, 5.21 ERA) vs. Clayton Kershaw (3-3, 4.34 ERA)
Time: 10:10 p.m. at Dodger Stadium, Chavez Ravine, Calif.
Weather: Mostly sunny, 63
TV: Comcast SportsNet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
The last time these two teams met at Dodger Stadium, the Phillies and Dodgers were the National League’s top two teams. Yet again, they share that status. In fact, they’re baseball’s top two teams, and they meet tonight for the start of four games.
Cole Hamels, who had trouble against Washington, is back and has success against the Dodgers this year: He gave up just a run in seven innings against Los Angeles on May 14. Clayton Kershaw, however, lost to the Phils on May 12, giving up four runs in five innings.
Tonight’s lineup (with Victorino out but OK): Rollins/Utey/Werth/Howard/Ibanez/Feliz/Bruntlett/Ruiz/Hamels.
Your gamenight beer: Magic Hat releases a seasonal called Odd Notion — this is the Summer 2008 version. If you still have it in the fridge, go at it, champ. Let’s get back to those memories of 2008 — remember the grand victories of National League splendor right in Dodger Stadium. Let’s take a couple this weekend. I have an Odd Notion we will.
Go Phillies!

Bruntlett???? Good lord, why? Shouldn’t even be on the team anymore. Coste can play the outfield.
The Dipsy
June 4th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
so Victorino is okay?
June 4th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
When are the Phillies eligable to call Mayberry back up? I understand they couldn’t do it for this game because the just sent him back down.
June 4th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
yea bruntlett starting really hurts it would have been nice to see mayberry in the lineup tonight
June 4th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
I guess it had to be Bruntlett with Kershaw being a lefty. Charlie obviously didn’t want to go left heavy with Stairs or Dobbs.
June 4th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
I predict Eric Bruntlett goes 3-4!
June 4th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
yea i think you pretty much have to start bruntlett because lefties are hitting .111 against kershaw this year, maybe he will get a couple infield singles as his contribution
June 4th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
dammit.
reyes out through ASG and possibly more
June 4th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
I predict men carrying straight jackets start knocking on your door any minute now Greg.
June 4th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
Reyes is over rated anyway. I’d be more worried if Wright or Beltran went down. If I were a muts fan, which I thankfully am not.
June 4th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
One word for our lineup tonight– patience (I’m especially talking to you Jimmy). We all know Kershaw can be wild, and that can turn into an effective wildness if people are hacking constantly. I don’t think this should be a problem because our lineup has been very disciplined, but I’m sure its being pounded into their brains before this game.
One person who should be LESS patient is Werth. I want to swing at the first pitch he sees from Kershaw if its a fastball (which it will be because Kershaw knows he’s not going to swing).
June 4th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
Thankfully you are one of us, Ed R.
As PGD mentioned, Kershaw is tough on lefties, so I guess starting the Beard tonight is the right call. He can be pinch hit for later on.
Kershaw throws a ton of pitches and usually doesn’t get deep into games though.
June 4th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
he is overrated but i don’t think he is as overrated as people say he is
he can hit, just when he hits he gets thrown out at 2nd
June 4th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
Bruntlett starting. what the f###, are we the padres with a slop player like that in our lineup.
June 4th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
Where is Morris? Normally he comes on here and starts verbally abusing Bruntlett until the Beard has no choice but to do something productive….
June 4th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
Morris fears the Beard.
June 4th, 2009 at 10:12 pm
that’s good news about Victorino
June 4th, 2009 at 10:17 pm
Oh well, at least Werth worked a walk
June 4th, 2009 at 10:21 pm
nice DP
June 4th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
Nice!
June 4th, 2009 at 10:28 pm
not much with the posting
June 4th, 2009 at 10:28 pm
It’s a shame Vic isn’t playing tonight because he really hits power lefties well. I’m not sure what his actual numbers against Kershaw are but it is a shame we have Beard’s bat in there instead of his.
June 4th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
yeah, it’s pretty dead in here tonight
June 4th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Crap, only 31 pitches through 2 innings for Kershaw
June 4th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
I hate to be a broken record once again, but this home plate ump has already missed about 3 pitches. That 2-1 to Beardlett? Cmon now. If you are gonna call that a strike you should have rung up Hudson on that 1-2 fastball last inning.
June 4th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
Pure pitching duel. Thats what I’m seeing early on. Not gonna be a high scoring game.
June 4th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
another nice DP
June 4th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
Cole made up for not covering the bag there by getting another DP.
June 4th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
now it’s time for him to hit a homerun
June 4th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
I think part of the reason this board is dead is because nothing has happened in this game yet
June 4th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
Putz and Reyes go down on the same day for the Mutts.
June 4th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
alright Bruntlett!
June 4th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
BEARD
June 4th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
Bruntlett is a true star
June 4th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
You all were saying what about Bruntlett the other night? Did I hear the word trade or release from somebody now?
June 4th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
You know they have a few hits and they have been retired in order. LOL
June 4th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
well, through three, both pitchers with a minimum of batters. hopefully phils can at least break up a no-hitter though.
June 4th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
True
June 4th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
There goes the no-hitter.
June 4th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
Utley gets a double!
June 4th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
What happened to Vic?
June 4th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
sore hip, not playing tonight
June 4th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
off to 3rd goes Utley, nice Werth
June 4th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
I really don’t like giving Ryan the green light. He always swings at balls.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
nice sac fly Howard, 1-0 Phillies
June 4th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
woot. small ball.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
nice.
I stepped away for a bit, what did the Beard do?
June 4th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
Finally a little small ball…if we do that two more times we may have ourselves a win tonight.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
i getting tired of these lame ass phillies promotional commercials…”can the phillies wipe out the reds?” blah blah stupid
June 4th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
alright Feliz!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
YES PETE HAPPY! Alright Beard bunt him over….
June 4th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
Actually don’t bunt….they will walk chooch.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:13 pm
kinda like a bunt
June 4th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
Alright Cole…knock em in baby!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
Time for Cole to borrow some of Joe’s Lumber
June 4th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
strange move walking Ruiz.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
Make him throw a strike!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
come on Jimmy
June 4th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
I don’t like that at all….at least make him throw a strike if you are going to not swing and try to knock him in. JRoll has not proven he can get these runs in….hopefully he proves me wrong.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
oh well
June 4th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
Damn it, he swung at ball 4
June 4th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
I want to see Cholly start to treat Jroll like Mayes Hayes. Every time he hits a ball in the air Jroll should just start doing pushups over the plate
June 4th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
Like does everyone understand what I’m saying there? I honestly think there is a better chance of Cole hitting a weak ground ball to score the run then there is of Jimmy getting a two out hit.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
Opposing pitchers know that Jimmy isn’t hitting at all… and it’s much better to walk RUIZ to get to Hamels and then Rollins… they are THAT scared of J-out
June 4th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
i don’t like sacrifices with one out under any circumstances… unless it’s a suicide squeeze it’s just not worth it
June 4th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
So J-roll’s in a slump? A full 2-month slump, I guess.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Look at that pitch count….so great
June 4th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
Man, Feliz is AWESOME
June 4th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
Sexy glove Pedro.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
The vacuum strikes again! Don’t even try to get that ball by him!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
51 pitches through 5 for Cole.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
Wow, looking at his career stats, Jroll’s 2006/07 look REALLY weird. 25 in ‘06, 30 in ‘07, never more than 14 in any other year. 3 so far this year. Weird
June 4th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
HR’s i mean…sorry its been a lonnnnng day
June 4th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
I believe that J-roll, offensively, is past his prime… Defensively, he’s still awesome.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
Having the best record in baseball, why does Dodger stadium look only half full?
June 4th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
By the way….I always talk about being cautious when we talk about stats in AA or AAA because sometimes they are better then they look due to the competition. I think I just found the best example I’ve ever seen.
Following his 1-4 performance tonight, Miguel Cairo’s average FELL to .385 after 52 at-bats with the team.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
Manny….everyone is at home watching the Lakers game.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
And Dodgers fans suck at being fans
June 4th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
Oh that’s right, Miles!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
How about a RAUUUUUUULLLL here?
June 4th, 2009 at 11:35 pm
That and they’re still on their way to the park. Always good to be fashionably late
June 4th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
RAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLL!!!!!!!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
RAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUL
June 4th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
The dude is a beast.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
There you go, Miles
June 4th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
i actually think i’m hearing rauls on the gameday audio… from LA
June 4th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
Hamels so far: 5IP, 3H, 0R, 0ER, 0BB, 3K, 51 pitches-36strikes,15balls
Kershaw so far: 5IP, 2H, 1R, 1ER, 2BB, 5K, 87 pitches-48strikes,39balls
Hamels might go the distance tonight if he keeps this up. Only 51 pitches for Hamels through 5. Kershaw will probably go 7 tonight unless he totally loses it.
Top 6th: Chase Utley up first. Utley almost hits it out but Juan Pierre catches it just in front of the wall. Jayson werth up next. Small ball, Pitching Duel, Defensive Game tonight. Werth singles and Howard up now. Well this could be Kershaw’s last inning as he just threw his 100th pitch. Ryan Howard walks. Ibanez up now. He is 0for2 with 2Ks. Raul Ibanez delivers! Ibanez hits his 14th double to score werth. howard to 3rd. Ibanez 53rd rbi. I gotta go. Cya tom. Go Phillies
June 4th, 2009 at 11:40 pm
Damn it Howard!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:40 pm
Cmon Ryan could have scored there….
June 4th, 2009 at 11:40 pm
Pinch hit for Brunlett!!!!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
Where are Dobbs and Stairs in that spot?
June 4th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
Well that blows…hopefully we can still add one or two more and just let Cole do his thing.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:43 pm
My god was that 2nd out ugly!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:43 pm
Griffin I think Charlie trusts Bruntlett in LF more than the other two and so he wants to see him out there for another two innings or so. Plus, if we have some crucial pinch hitting spots later in the game we would be pissed that we burnt our big guys early in the game. At least I’m sure that is their thinking.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
I ain’t going to lie, I’d rather have Bruntlett in for his defense than Stairs or Dobbs. The game is too close.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
I would have pinch hit in that spot. I don’t think there was a lefty warming up, so you’re guaranteeing that either Dobbs or Stairs would have faced a righty.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
I am a little surprised Either didn’t tag up there and get to 3rd base with 1 out.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
Loney looks like a nun with that towel over his head
June 4th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
Griffin I think we will find out yet whether you or Charlie made the right call. If Bruntlett makes a good defensive play or the two of them have important at bats later then Charlie made the right call. If we end up losing 3-2 and another run could have made the difference, we may be asking what if.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
Nicely done Cole.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
Talk about an economical outing from Cole so far!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
True, there’s no telling who is right at this point. If Mayberry was still on the team, I would have used a lefty pinch hitter and then put Mayberry in for defense, but having Dobbs/Stairs in RF is quite scary.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
61 pitches through 6 for Cole. Awesome.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
Chooch!!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
Chooch!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
Hamels is pitching quite good, im diggin. Good Evening fellas.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
Ruiz!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
What a crappy bunt. that pitch was high AND outside.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
.226 avg for J-roll… U-G-L-Y
June 4th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
chooooooooooch
June 4th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
Ruiz steals! oh my
June 4th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
Ruiz is a speed demon.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
Chooch making up for that failed bunt!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
PUSH-UPS!!!!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
Damn it Jimmy
June 4th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
let’s go Werth
June 4th, 2009 at 11:57 pm
Corey Wade is hoping Victorino doesn’t pop out of that dugout.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:57 pm
Don’t worry fellas… Werth is about to homer
June 4th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
Damn I guess they got out of this inning.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
Griffin if Mayberry was still on the team then Bruntlett wouldn’t have been out there from the beginning haha
June 4th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
or just get a hit
June 4th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
Almost!! But he got the job done!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
johnny wacko!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
YES WERTH! YES! Oh thank god….I am so happy.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
Yes! We’ll take a seeing-eye dribbler!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
Alright Werth…starting to knock it around again!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
CLUUUUUUUUUUTCH! Good one Werth!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
Thank you for proving me wrong!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:00 am
3-0 Phillies, nice.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:01 am
Miles, good point about Mayberry!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:02 am
Lefties are hitting .400 against this guy they just brought in! Haha sounds like a great LOOGY
June 5th, 2009 at 12:02 am
I can honestly say that I have never heard of Brent Leach.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:03 am
O M G
What a horrible, horrible swing
June 5th, 2009 at 12:03 am
yikes, that 2nd pitch might have been the worst swing I have ever seen.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:03 am
Ugliest at bat ever?
June 5th, 2009 at 12:04 am
I dont know what last ball looked like in person, but from MLB.com, that looked like CRAP.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:04 am
Apparently good enough to get Howard (by only throwing one strike)
June 5th, 2009 at 12:04 am
It looked like crap on TV as well. Howard was lost, it looked like he was swatting flies….flies that were not in the strike zone.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:04 am
Brian, trust me. It looked much worse on TV.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:05 am
Does Cole go the distance at this point? I say he does!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:06 am
Terrible at bat by Howard but we were really playing with house money in that inning after Werth’s poke up the middle. If Cole can get through this inning without much stress he is definitely on track for the complete game.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:06 am
Can it look worse than it did on MLB.com? Thats bad.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:07 am
The baserunning mistake, coupled with this horrible, painful at-bat, makes Howard look completely lost today…
That being said, he’ll probably homer in his next AB. That’s how he rolls.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:08 am
Later Furcal
June 5th, 2009 at 12:09 am
I thought Orlando Hudson was faster than he really is. J-Roll took his time there and still got him by plenty.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:10 am
Hahahaha are you guys hearing this right now between TMac and Wheels? Wheeler goes “Oh TMac finish your story about the bullpen guys drawing in the dirt” and TMac goes “Oh sorry I was distracted by Cole’s strikeout” (aka the game!).
What a bunch of fools we have for announcers. It’s like the action on the field distracts them from all of the meaningless bullcrap they want to talk about all night.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:10 am
oh sweet. as much as i like LA and fanzke, the games on some gameHD channel on my cable. it’s the LA broadcast, but scully’ll do.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:10 am
That ball went a lot farther than I thought it would. Cole at 72 pitches through 7.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:10 am
Let him go the distance!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:10 am
Don’t wanna jinx it, but with Hamels’ superb outing today, our entire rotation was simply AWESOME in the past 5 games. Moyer getting his 250th W, Blanton going 7, Bastardo going 6 in his debut, Happ with his 7-innning shutout… and Cole with his __________.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:11 am
Howard will probably remain lost for the rest of the game, but hopefully come up big tomorrow.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:12 am
Tough game for Leftys today against Kershaw
June 5th, 2009 at 12:12 am
Manny he did have a nice sac fly in the 4th so he has done something positive today.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:13 am
It’s great that Bastardo is sitting really close to Moyer and Hamels… hopefully absorbing every single word that comes out of that conversation.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:13 am
Come on Miles, are you honestly surprised? Wheels is a tool.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:14 am
Lol! Eric Milton! Sorry I just had to laugh!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:15 am
Damn, another pitching change. Some of us have to get to bed, Torre!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:15 am
Torre changes pitchers more often than I have to change my underwear during one-run games with Lidge trying to close it out in the 9th.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:15 am
I love when Wheels tries to explain stuff to T-Mac and the people watching like no one has watch the game of Baseball in their life before.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:16 am
How many RBI’s does the Beat have now? (Ibanez) Double and and RBI. Damn.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:17 am
man, alex rios had five strikeouts tonight for the jays. according to wikipedia that’s either his second or third platinum sombrero. i can’t tell if it was edited before or after tonights game.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:17 am
Blake = Jeff Daniels.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:17 am
Good at bat Feliz.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:18 am
Blake = Abraham Lincoln.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:18 am
On a positive note, Howard already has 46 Rbis (good for 4th in the NL) and he’s not even on fire! He’ll probably lead the league in Rbis and HRs by the All-star break, like last season…
June 5th, 2009 at 12:19 am
Does everyone remember when Eric Milton lost his no-hitter when “defensive replacement” Doug Glanville misjudged a simple fly ball? I’m sure Milton still hates Glanville.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:19 am
welcome back Brunltett. Oy.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:20 am
that stadium is EMPPPPPTTTYYY
June 5th, 2009 at 12:21 am
Yeah Miles lol, it was a sunday game..
On a completely off the topic note…the NBA fined LeBron 25k for not shaking hands after they got blown out against the Magic…
That is Ridiculous
June 5th, 2009 at 12:21 am
Not only that Manny, but he probably won’t be on the team again, like last year. Gonzalez and Pujols are locks and there will probably be some other undeserving firstbaseman from a bad team. I think we all know Howard isn’t perfect but he deserves to have been on more than one all star team.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:21 am
I can see howard leading the league in Homers, but I would be surprised if the Beast isnt leading the league going into the break. 53 right now for Ibanez. Damn.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:22 am
Great comeback by King Cole!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:23 am
Miles I have a feeling Adrianne Gonzalez will probably be on the team.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:23 am
In a month, Howard will be a much better choice for the All-star game than Gonzalez… for sure….
We also gotta watch out with the fat vegetarian who’s right behind our man RAUUUL with 52 rbis
June 5th, 2009 at 12:23 am
I think Hamels is BACK! Keep it up, and get the CG win!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:24 am
I Hate Prince Fielder. Fat Mess
June 5th, 2009 at 12:24 am
Hamels is amazing
June 5th, 2009 at 12:25 am
Who is that Manny?
June 5th, 2009 at 12:25 am
I like seeing no walks too.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:25 am
lets see a CG day off for the pen.
we may need em tomorrow . . .
June 5th, 2009 at 12:25 am
Oh that Fat @$$
June 5th, 2009 at 12:26 am
Hamels is Ballin’
June 5th, 2009 at 12:26 am
Wow take your time there Jimmy. Cole looks incredible. We are a fantastic team right now.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:26 am
85 pitches through 8. Tell the bullpen to hit the showers, no need for them tonight.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:27 am
Leave Cole in! Leave Cole in!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:27 am
Hey Guys, How is everyone tonight. Just joining in. My wife made me watch a movie. I turned the game on in the 5th. Cole is on fire. My god. Let him pitch the 9th.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:28 am
There’s our ace people!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:28 am
Gref V…..Why not!?!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:28 am
Prince Fielder? I dont understand why people vote for him honestly. His batting average is below Howard, with similar Homers and RBI’s, and Howard fielding is far better than FAT @$$
June 5th, 2009 at 12:28 am
It would be great to get like two more runs so there would be no need to get too jumpy if Cole lets a guy or two on base.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:29 am
cole is ridiculous. one batter over the minimum. also… watching the dodgers feed, it’s weird to hear only one person in the booth calling the game. he asked “you’d think the catcher would be the one person who knew if the ball was foul, wouldn’t you?” and nobody answered. i felt sad for the old man, sitting up there, talking to his imaginary friend.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:29 am
HOLY FU*K.. CHOOCH IS A HITTING MACHINE
June 5th, 2009 at 12:30 am
Terrific bunt. Cole is doin it all.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:30 am
I dont know what Chooch has been eating, but keep eating it! Looks like Cole is back in the bottom of the 9th.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:30 am
Gosh J-roll
June 5th, 2009 at 12:30 am
Damn it Jimmy.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:31 am
PUSH-UPS!!!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:31 am
Haha Nate that is hysterical…I mean TMac has Wheels and Sarge so they are giving about as much productive input as his imaginary friend.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:31 am
We need another dribbler from Werth.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:32 am
I think it is officially fair to say that if Rollins gets on a tear and hits like .350 or so for a long stretch that we may be almost unbeatable.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:33 am
Utley is having a VERY quiet PRODUCTIVE season. .299, 12 HR, 36 RBI’s. They barely talk about him beyond leading 2nd basemen for votes (again) and look at his stats.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:34 am
Lookin for a good read..Check This..
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=johnson/090604&sportCat=mlb
Its a question answer article with Randy Johnson, pretty cool..
June 5th, 2009 at 12:34 am
Not surprised with that one, but at least he connected with the ball.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:34 am
Come on Cole!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:35 am
Yeah I believe a 9 game hitting streak going for Utley right? It would nice to see him get another long streak going.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:37 am
Come on Ace!!!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:37 am
Effing L.A. fans throwing paper airplanes…
June 5th, 2009 at 12:37 am
Tough hit, jammed the spit outta him
June 5th, 2009 at 12:38 am
Please get through this. Please. 3 outs man. DP PLEASE!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:40 am
One more, Cole.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:40 am
1 out to go . . .
June 5th, 2009 at 12:40 am
One more out for the shutout!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:41 am
Don’t jinx him with that complete game shutout stat! Freaking Comcast and their mid game stats….
June 5th, 2009 at 12:41 am
1 more baby.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:41 am
My thoughts exactly Miles

June 5th, 2009 at 12:42 am
YESSSSS! Put this one in the win column for the Phightin Phils!
Bruntlett or Hamels for the Ashburn Award?
June 5th, 2009 at 12:43 am
Wow, someone wanted to prove themselves after a bad start. Increadible job by Cole.
4 games up!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:43 am
The radio just mentioned that this was the first game all year in which the Phillies scored 3 or less runs and still won.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:43 am
Fantastic game. These boys are playing some stallar baseball.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:44 am
I believe our last 5 Ashburns (including tonight’s for Cole) have been for our starting pitchers! Sweeeeet!
Good night all!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:44 am
Great game Cole. And the ‘pen gets a well deserved night off. Beauty
June 5th, 2009 at 12:45 am
7 Straight wins, while the Mets are playing like well….the Mets….
HA
June 5th, 2009 at 12:48 am
Nice to have a win with a Mutts loss. 4 Games up now. LA will come back very hungry tomorrow. Hopefully the Offense can get some more runs tomorrow.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:48 am
cole was working some magic on the mound tonight. talk about an ace performance! gotta love the way this team is playing right now. only concern is that victorino’s hip is hopefully nothing serious.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:48 am
Nice job Cole! Where have all the Mets fan gone?
June 5th, 2009 at 12:49 am
I speak from Experience regarding Dodger Stadium…..The first 3 innings the stadium is empty because of the Traffic on the Freeways out there, the Next 3 its pretty much packed,Innings 7-9+ it empties because they want to beat the traffic on the Freeway.Enough of that,Injuries happen but this is getting rediculous now.Now I am not making excuses for my team but things are starting to get curiouser and more curiouser. Now its time for Minaya to start tinkering and figure out how to get healthier players via trade.Right now its beginning to get very late very fast.NO EXCUSE to lose 3 swtraight to an inferior team like the lowly Pirates…..NO EXCUSE.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:49 am
Cole only faced the minimum plus two batters. That is so incredible…let’s keep this train rolling guys. Forget this tough schedule, we are the team to beat baby!
June 5th, 2009 at 12:50 am
Excuse me for sounding like Elmer Fudd for a second! lol NO excuse to lose 3 straight to the lowly Pirates.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:51 am
Anyone know what Hamels ERA is now after the game?
June 5th, 2009 at 12:53 am
“cusiouser” LOL.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:55 am
forget about sounding like Elmer Fudd with the misspelling, the funny thing was inventing words.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:55 am
4.40 era now
June 5th, 2009 at 12:55 am
shut up miner you loser. your mets suck. do you hear me. get lost you punk. cole kicks your ass. your mets will never win because they are looooseerrss….you waste of life.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:56 am
I saw Cole’s ERA was around 4.5 now.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:57 am
4.40
June 5th, 2009 at 12:59 am
Thanks Fellas
June 5th, 2009 at 12:59 am
Complete Game is rare enough, but a complete game shut out is awesome. Great to see him get on track against a very good hitting team.
June 5th, 2009 at 1:02 am
Lower hat ERA by 1 point too. Gave the pen a rest, pitched like the Ace we need!
June 5th, 2009 at 1:03 am
Jeff – Grrrumpy Miner is the only cool Mets fan. He actually brings up good points. I know, we don’t normally allow that kind here, but he is OK.
June 5th, 2009 at 1:05 am
Oh, and Grrrumpy Miner, you all can’t have Bastardo or Happ. Padilla is available though… He may throw at us though.
June 5th, 2009 at 1:07 am
MP How you feeling Buddy?
June 5th, 2009 at 1:19 am
Brian – thanks for asking. I was out sick today. I got some Ny-Quil so I slept all day. Now I am like wide awake. Lukily I am off Fridays. Now for some late night TV I guess. Hope I don’t buy any snugees.
June 5th, 2009 at 1:21 am
Sleep will do it buddy! worked for me.
June 5th, 2009 at 1:22 am
I try to give TMac a chance because he’s got a big seat to fill, but I’m fed up with the inane banter between him and Wheels. I tell myself he’s our good luck charm though since we won the NL East and of course, WFC since he’s been here.
Did anyone hear the radio guys tonight? Not Scott – someone named Jim Jackson. I liked him, though. He and LA had a good back-and-forth. And he was also afraid to say “shutout.”
June 5th, 2009 at 1:29 am
anybody notice that Hamels’ wife was at the game? they showed her in the 8th I think.
June 5th, 2009 at 1:30 am
jim jackson calls flyers games for csn. he does the pregame and postgame every night.
June 5th, 2009 at 1:35 am
Jim Jackson does the pregame too, I hear him on XM.
I kind of like T-Mac and Wheels. I mean – I don’t like Wheels, but I think they do OK. They’re no Harry, but it is what it is. Scott and LA are great. I sync my XM up with the TV many times to avoid away games. Truthfully, you don’t miss T-Mac and Wheels until you cannot get them as I cannot always in SC.
June 5th, 2009 at 1:37 am
Brian – working my way off to bed soon!
June 5th, 2009 at 3:08 am
Ok guys we got a game with the Dodgers tonight. And that only means one thing. Bad news for the Dodgers!
