Gamenight: Phillies (32-20) At Dodgers (37-19)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Fri, June 05, 2009 08:45 PM
Philadelphia Phillies (32-20) at Los Angeles Dodgers (37-19)
Jamie Moyer (4-5, 6.75 ERA) vs. Eric Milton (2-0, 3.14 ERA)
Time: 10:10 p.m. at Dodger Stadium, Chavez Ravine, Calif.
Weather: Mostly sunny, 61
TV: Comcast SportsNet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
The Phillies will seek their eighth-consecutive win as they take on the Dodgers tonight.
Jamie Moyer, who pitched very well in his last outing, will take the hill. Against Los Angeles on May 13 he had one of his worst outings, giving up seven runs without getting out of the fifth inning. Lately, however, Phils starters have been sparkling, going into the sixth inning in each of their last 16 games.
The Dodgers will counter with former Phillie Eric Milton. Left-handed hitters are just 1-for-13 against him this season; righties are a cool 14-for-43.
A rightie, Pedro Feliz is hitting .545 off Milton since 2004.
Your gamenight beer: Don de Dieu is one of the fruitier Belgian strong ales out there. Of course, it’s brewed in Canada, by Unibroue. It’s a sweet and expensive beer that comes in at 9 percent alcohol content, so sip carefully. I’d go with some calamari tonight. Maybe some fritters. I’m just feeling the summer mood coming in. And hey, do yourself a favor and turn on the radio tonight. Whether it’s the Phils broadcast or the legendary Vin Scully, you can’t go wrong.
Go Phillies!

Haha just saw the Hamels New Era commercial. Fantastic.
June 5th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
If Jamie blows up against the Dodgers, expect Chan Ho coming out of the pen.
June 5th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
ha just found that commerical on youtube.

June 5th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
Eric Milton against the Philllies? I predict 12 HR by our boys tonight.
June 5th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
Is anyone following the rumor that there is trade talk between the Phils and the BoSox concerning Jason Donald for Brad Penny?
June 5th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
Penny didn’t pitch that well today, the Braves might also be after him or whatever. rumors rumors galore.
June 5th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
The Beard making his second straight start tonight, and Coste is also starting
June 5th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
The Red Sox do this all the time: They tell everyone what they want for their overhyped/overvalued players.
June 5th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
I got Vin Scully tonight on Extra Innings®. I am listening to him as he IS also the man. Cannot go wrong with Mr. Scully.
Tim Malcolm – I am serious, we don’t need to be trading now at all. Let’s evaluate what we have and see what we need on July 1. Penny sucks the past two years. Let him go to the mets.
June 5th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
That New Era commercial is a great commercial. Hollywood plays it so well “Who are you?”
June 5th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
I anyone cares Mets and Nats tied at 1 in the bottom of the 8th, Nats up.
June 5th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
Should read IF anyone…^
June 5th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
SC: per usual, the Nats are allowing four outs per inning with their sub-par fielding.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:01 pm
does anyone know moyer’s stats at this point last season?
June 5th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
(listening to Moyer speech…)
he sounds like he’s going to cry…
June 5th, 2009 at 10:08 pm
Joe yup – top of the 10th one-all still…
Maxhole, give me a minute let me see if I can calculate it from baseball reference
June 5th, 2009 at 10:09 pm
Tracey, he was emotional.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
Nats just blew that one. Mets about won barring a massive comeback from the Nats. In the Nats defense though, the Mets run came frmo a blown call. Oh well, as long as we win it won’t matter.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:12 pm
poor Rollins
June 5th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
right thanks, i want to hope he’s on an upward trend here. i cant take another dodger marathon. stats are my last hope… heres to 251
June 5th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
Mets won, Nats blow.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
Watching the Nats/Mets game is like minor league… without the dizzy bat race.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
Maxhole – looks like 6-2 ERA is hard to determine though
June 5th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
what is this moyer speech about? im unable to turn the game on right now
June 5th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
Well, as I said, the Nats did get a bad call that would have won them the game 1-0. So I don’t blame the Nats for this one entirely. BOTH of those teams played pretty horrible. I am surprised the Mets are as high up as they are right now – and that I am even worried about them right now.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
maxhole, his 250th win
June 5th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Maxhole – he was honored to be a part of the team and he appreciates the other players. They should also enjoy the game. Nice speech, he was emotional though.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
hmm Howard went fishing
June 5th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
I normally do not like listening to away announcers, but I love hearing Vin Scully. Gosh, that was ball 2.
Rauuuuuuuul
June 5th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
That was terrible
June 5th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
Keith – or golfing
June 5th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
I would love to se K-Rod blow a save here.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
Jeepers
June 5th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
oh well
June 5th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
Why would a left-handed pitcher ever throw Howard a strike?
June 5th, 2009 at 10:21 pm
Nationals will get them next time
June 5th, 2009 at 10:21 pm
Griffin – they know they don’t have to
June 5th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
If jamie Moyer can tame Juan Pierre, he can win it all tonight
June 5th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
So much for that thought
June 5th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
I love cause he didn’t get a call, T-Mac goes, “Uh Oh” Haha
June 5th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
And that’s why I just added Pierre to my fantasy team…
June 5th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
As Vin Scully calls the fast runners – rabbits everywhere!
June 5th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
Nats lost
June 5th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
Oh boy, looks like it might be a long night.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
WOW!!
June 5th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
Utley is amazing!!
June 5th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
Pierre plays for the Mets?
June 5th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
Manny – he deserves it. Except when he makes stupid baserunning mistakes like THAT
June 5th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
Pierre kills the phillies.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
Amazing DP.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
wow, GREAT play by utley
June 5th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
I said on another board I would be for Cody Ross coming to the Phillies if we needed OF, I would be for Pierre too
June 5th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
yea Utley is amazing
June 5th, 2009 at 10:28 pm
Looks like Jamie is on so far…
June 5th, 2009 at 10:28 pm
That was perfect.. got a hit and a SB for my fantasy team, but Utley got him out so that the Phillies escape unscathed!
June 5th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
manny – Honesty, if Howard or Brunlett caught that Pierre would be on third I think.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
keith, hes working on 251 brother. thats what you were thinking tho right? we just said it different ways
June 5th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Feliz likes to hit off of Milton
June 5th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Jamie’s growing into his new haircut.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
Feliz with a nice hit
June 5th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
I would bunt Bruntlett
June 5th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
BEARD with a hit
June 5th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
Holla bearded man!
June 5th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
OOops I’d have given them an out – my bad. Shows why Charlie is there and I am in SC
June 5th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
oo Bruntlett got a hit, after all that bashing
June 5th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
Given regular starts, our man Bruntlett could start to impress people…
June 5th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
its faster on here than on espn gamecast
June 5th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
Like Feliz is going to steal
June 5th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
Keith, he read this I guess – or the beard is good luck. Gish, Vin Schully is great. Nice SF, Costey!
Does Jamie Bunt?
June 5th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
Chance of not scoring in this inning with guys on 3rd and 1st with 1 out, with Moyer and Jimmy due up: 90%
June 5th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
I used to feel great when J-Roll came up, but now I feel as though the inning is going to end…
June 5th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
These Dodgers are too good to give opportunities like this.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
Gosh
June 5th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
poor Rollins
June 5th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
Ugh, Jimmy…
June 5th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
Can I boo now?
June 5th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
Damn it Jimmy.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
I guess someone will be on within one week stating we should trade Jimmy for Johan or Peavy – just wait… I am NOT saying it I am being sarcazstic
June 5th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
Beard!
June 5th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Manny, no booing the WFC!!!!
June 5th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
I mean Rollins could be one of the best defensive SS of ALL TIME, but we should get rid of em cause he is struggling a little bit..
June 5th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
lol Rollins is my fav player, its very sad.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
J-Roll has never let his offensive struggles affect his defense. He’ll come around, it’s only a matter of time.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
Agreed Griff and Keith
June 5th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
griff you got it, each of the past three seasons he’s been the anchor at some point in the season. we all know he’ll turn it around
June 5th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
is werth back??
June 5th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
oh look another rally for us
June 5th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Phillies score! woo
June 5th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Whee!
June 5th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Milton is a spectator.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
O yeah, Raaauuuuul baby baby
June 5th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Rauuuuuul
June 5th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
Finally they put one up. And yes, I was being sarcastic. J-Roll will come around. maybe they should do to him what they’re doing to Big Pappi – send him for an eye exam. I will laugh so hard if that is the problem. Just like the movie.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
That ballpark is *really* empty…
June 5th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
what movie?
June 5th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
its only a matter of time before moyers lets up some runs
June 5th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
Tracey – Manny (Ramierez) is not around, they will come at the 4th inning and leave in the 7th
June 5th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
Keith – Major League with Wild Thing #99
June 5th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
Ah I just read – it is not Ortiz’ vision
June 5th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
MP, he got an eye exam during spring training, and he was 20/20 haha
June 5th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
FSN – California Aflac Trivia Question – Jamie Moyer is the oldest active player (46). Who is the oldest player ever?
I fay Julio Franco
June 5th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
Say^ rather
Little Guy – perhaps…
Beard with a hit!
June 5th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
k so Bruntlett got another hit lol let the bashing continue
June 5th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
This Dodgers team is too good to keep doing this and not scoring. Shades of the 2008 postseason, which luckily ended well. NOW they made a booboo we NEED to score both of those NOW
June 5th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
Keith, he must have read this LOL
June 5th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
Satchel Paige? apparently he retired at 59? wtf.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
Let’s see if Moyer can get a triple and knock over another umpire
June 5th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
Keith ——— good one. Forgot about him
June 5th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
yea its Satchel Paige, M.P.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
oh well Moyer
June 5th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
Darn it Jamie…
June 5th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
Once again, J-Roll. He can redeem himself now
June 5th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
come on Jimmy, please
June 5th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
Maybe Jimmy should try and bunt for a hit
June 5th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
Hey Everyone! I’m joining in on the Phillies chatter, tonight!
June 5th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
Best case scenario runners on 2nd and 3rd with Chase up
June 5th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
Miltons beard looks fake.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
(SIGH!)
June 5th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
Jeepers again
June 5th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
poor Jimmy
June 5th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
Shades of 2008 postseason
June 5th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
Maybe Chase can make it 4-0
June 5th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
UTLEY!!!!
June 5th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
This works well too
June 5th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
Yesssss! Double YESSSS!!!
June 5th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
COSTE! North Dakota what!
June 5th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
Ah the benefits of a catcher coming in, Costey knew how to slide without hurting anyone
June 5th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
Woot woot. Chase
June 5th, 2009 at 11:13 pm
Vin Scully said at one time – Fargo, ND [laughing] who can stand all that cold?
June 5th, 2009 at 11:13 pm
BEAUTIFUL by Utley, and even better hit by Coste.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
Maybe Werth can break out of this funk too here.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
“Like trying to have a wet glass on a wet tray.” — Scully on holding onto a ball caught in a catcher’s mit.
God I love this.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
maybe not
June 5th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
They’re throwing around a freakin’ beach ball in the crowd. This is the best team in the majors here.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
Vin Scully is a classic. Like I said, if I see LA and Scot F on XM Radio I will sync my TV up with them. When Vin Scully is on and I cannto get the Phillies feed, I don’t check. I love listening to him. It is no wonder he has had a 60 year career. He is as classic as HK and never demeaning to anyone.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
Keith – good job Satchel Paige. Vin Scully said he remembers Paige LOL
June 5th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
Gosh, can we ever retire this guy?
June 5th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
damn that pierre
June 5th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
nice catch Werth
June 5th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
Man do the Phils have some defense.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
We need to get that run right back
June 5th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Love, love, love the Phillies defense!
June 5th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
He was out at second. I slo mo-ed it on DVR
June 5th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
You can tell Scully is more a radio guy, even without the analyst. He never, ever stops talking. But with Scully it’s practically all informative. No filler.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
Raul has to move that runner to 3rd.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
Wow, what a play on Raul
June 5th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
did Scully ever have a partner?
June 5th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Seriously, “Phillies suck” chants?
June 5th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Any idea how to get the Scully broadcast without XM?
June 5th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
I hate to see Milton go but I like the idea of getting to their bullpen early. Could help us tomorrow or Sunday. Can’t believe Milton still has a job. He’s terrible.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
I’m sure Scully has had a partner before.
Also, I have Scully on MLB.tv. He’s on TV tonight.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
The package on mlb.com is a GREAT deal. They just lowered the price. You can get Scully there.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
this is our last 10PMish start for a while, woo
June 5th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
Ok guys we got a game with the Dodgers tonight. And that only means one thing. Bad news for the Dodgers!
June 5th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
$69.95 for all games on the internet, blackout restrictions apply. You can get radio but no TV if in blackout area.

June 5th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
Secret weapon, Bruntlett
June 5th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
Aarrgh, PH Dobbs for Beard here, he cant hit righties
June 5th, 2009 at 11:35 pm
I used to live in Japan, and they would broadcast Dodger games if Nomo or Ishii were pitching. And it was the greatest pleasure to listen to Scully call a game. So much better than the Yankees or Mariners broadcast teams. Those were the other two teams I got to watch.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:35 pm
No weapon against righties
June 5th, 2009 at 11:35 pm
Let’s go Beard-o. Eric Bruntlett- the baseball equivalent of a punt.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
Morris, were you there for any Hideki Irabu starts? Someone with the Yanks called him a “Toad”. He was terrible.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
Darn-it.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
oh well Bruntlett
June 5th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
Bruntlett “haters” are a little mixed up. He’s only useless against right handers. Against a LHP he is a borderline major leaguers.
CAREER
vs. LHP — .261 BA, .743 OPS
vs. RHP — .214 BA, .575 OPS
under no (or limited) circumstances should he bat against a righty
June 5th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
Irabu was back in Japan when I was there. I was there in 2003 and it was Matsui’s first year with the Yankees. Michael Kay is the worst sports announcer you will ever hear.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
I’m all for pinch-hitting Dobbs or Stairs there. A similar situation came up last night. The Beard does have two hits tonight, but I’d rather a lefty up there.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
Woooh, Jamie got a call. Thats a first in 2009. This cooky rookie ump didnt get the memo to squeeze him.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
Jamie always smirks just a little when he strikes someone out.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
man i feel like the phils should be up by more hitting everything hard
June 5th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
Irabu was actually one of the ace’s for Osaka’s team, where I lived. And I have a promotional mouse pad that was given out featuring the team’s two aces. Hideki Irabu and Kei Igawa- the Yankees two biggest failures with Japanese pitchers.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:43 pm
Yeah Morris I can do without Michael Kay. I also don’t like Sterling’s “Yankeeees Win” BS.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
oh wow Moyer has been great through 5
June 5th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
LOL Kei Igawa and Irabu on a mousepad. You should sell that to George Steinbrenner for a few million.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
Igawa was awful for them.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
moyers on phire tonight. one hit?
June 5th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
PGD is so right. The Phils have left 37 runners on base already. Feels like we should be up a lot. This game is flying by though. We can almost turn this over to the bullpen.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:46 pm
I just saw some of the lowlights of the Met-Nats game. Adam Dunn should just be given goalie equipmet to prevent balls from getting past him.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:46 pm
‘An A bomb, by A-Rod’….could quite possibly be the most annoying thing in all of sports broadcasting.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
if only he could get out Pierre
June 5th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
Phils have outhit them 8-1 but it’s only 3-1.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
i don’t know little guy, could be one-upped by the ‘tex message to right!’
June 5th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
The Yankees broadcast teams seriously sound like the PA announcers at a drag race or nascar event.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
Igawa — actually doing ok in AAA. 5-1 with a 3.68 era
Coste — I admire the guy for beating back all the competition for his job
June 5th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
The old man is pitching a gem tonight.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:50 pm
Wow, I did not even know Igawa was still in the US. He was a pretty good pitcher in Japan. But nothing special. I’ll have to check him out the next time I am in Scranton.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:50 pm
Speaking of John Sterling, his call of a Mark Teixeira home is sheer unintentional comedy. “It is high, it is far, it is gone! Tex marks the spot! You’re on the Mark….Teixeira!”
I wish I was kidding about this.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
I have not heard the “tex message” to right.
Speaking of Tex, did anyone think he cried a little too much about getting hit by Padilla?
Padilla did hit him after he hit 2 HR —- that was true
Teix cried about getting hit by opponents in retaliation for Padilla — UNTRUE
I researched and when he and Padilla played together he was only his 7 times in 1.5 years (2006 & 1/2 of 2007) and only once could it be considered in retailation.
Big Yankee baby.
Utley is hit 7 times on long road trips.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
Ah, Sterling is using “Tex message to right” as well. How clever of him.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
This is some good Sterling bashing. Teixera is a drab Boras robot unworthy of a nickname.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
You feel like you are watching pro wrestling when you watch a game on the YES network.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
Haha the god damn Yankees
June 5th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
Teixera was whining about Padilla, yet he played with him for like half of his time in the majors? lol
Tex, your getting paid 180 mil, who care if you can hit by a pitch once and awhile? You should be happy knowing you command respect as an opponent.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
Charlie and Dubee —- GET THE BULLPEN UP NOW!!!
June 5th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
How do you think Yankee fans are going to feel about Tex when they find out how he plays in September and October? And do they know about CC’s struggles in the postseason?
June 5th, 2009 at 11:57 pm
it feels like we’re facing the Yankees on here lol
June 5th, 2009 at 11:57 pm
It looked like it hit the line to me.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:57 pm
I think Yanks fans will be very sad in October. Phew that foul ball was close.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
its hard keith to bash the dodgers or vin scully.
damn their classic uniforms and reasonableness!!
see, doesnt work, especially without manny.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
Fellas, don’t forget about A-Rods clutch hitting in the playoffs……
June 5th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
BULLPEN!
June 5th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
what a huge DP
June 6th, 2009 at 12:00 am
Just like I said. Stay the course with Jamie. He has around 70 pitches and 250 wins.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:00 am
What a reversal of fortune on that series.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:00 am
Pierre is out! nice
June 6th, 2009 at 12:01 am
Impressive…impressive…
June 6th, 2009 at 12:01 am
If that ball was fair we’d be kindof screwed. Thank you baseball gods!
June 6th, 2009 at 12:01 am
Man, I am glad I took my time typing in my comment about how I wanted to see Clay Condrey warming up.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:01 am
Moyer at 76
June 6th, 2009 at 12:01 am
So…..JC, Madson, Lidge? It sure feels nice to type that.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:03 am
Well you know, the Phillies biggest weak spot is their pitching…
June 6th, 2009 at 12:03 am
Condrey has a great first name
June 6th, 2009 at 12:05 am
Utley with the bat change? What happened to the black one?
June 6th, 2009 at 12:06 am
Here’s an interesting article I just found on Bastardo:
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/bastardo-debuts
Basically the article thinks that the results of his first start were good, but he is not the answer.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:07 am
Wheels is the type of guy who talks on a phone for 4 minutes before he realizes the call was disconnected 3 minutes and 45 seconds ago.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:07 am
Moyer does not need the pen, leave him uot one more… Have Durbin/Condrey/Romero ready, but send him out
June 6th, 2009 at 12:08 am
I was cleaning the kitchen, so I missed a few posts –
Vin Scully is a radio guy, but he is amazing with his paperwork and knowledge of what he wants and when
Wheels is annoying, but his dedication is admirable
Have faith – the Jamie Moyer haters are not here now. Have faith
June 6th, 2009 at 12:08 am
I agree MP
June 6th, 2009 at 12:10 am
Wheres Geoff?
June 6th, 2009 at 12:10 am
I saw that Griffin. They did a similar article on an A’s pitcher that made his debut. Its tough to analyze Bastardo because they had such a big lead and it was okay to throw fastballs PLUS, it was the Padres in Petco.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:11 am
My problem with Wheels is that he is not happy until he has totally driven his point into the ground. We are going to have to hear about this possible balk for 3 minutes.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:11 am
IMO….Yank Moyer, thank him for a job well done and go to the well rested bullpen.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:11 am
I agree cxl72, I’m interested to see how he does Sunday night. I hope the offspeed stuff is working.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:12 am
We shall see get a better take on Bastardo Sunday Night against the Dodgers.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:12 am
Wow, nice catch – what a shame
June 6th, 2009 at 12:12 am
Matt Kemp on defense. No fair. I miss Adam Dunn and his metal glove.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:13 am
I thought that was gone
June 6th, 2009 at 12:13 am
Is their anyone that truly likes listening to Wheels? Honestly..
June 6th, 2009 at 12:13 am
Of course the Jamie Moyer haters aren’t here now, and you know what, they won’t even give him props for this performance.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:13 am
Leave Moyer one more. He is still low in his count, save that pen – Wolf is up Sunday; just in case…
Werth – I like aggressive but that was not smart
June 6th, 2009 at 12:14 am
I thought that was gone as well
June 6th, 2009 at 12:14 am
I like Wheels lol kinda
June 6th, 2009 at 12:14 am
I want to see Bastardo on Sunday and do more “pitching” and less “throwing”. i was also concerned that Happ wasnt able to finish guys off and they were fouling a ton of 2 strike pitches off. Not a great sign.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:16 am
Mark my words, Adam Dunn is going to get konked on the head with a fly ball that he doesn’t see one of these days, he’ll be knocked out cold, and I hope I see it happen, he’s a disgrace.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:16 am
I really enjoy watching games in the large ballparks where you really need to get all of a ball to get it out. I thought Howard had the homer there.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:16 am
Damn that girl is sexyyy
June 6th, 2009 at 12:16 am
I agree. Just like the Mets fans are not here tonight because we’re winning. Watch – if we (God fobid) give up the lead all the Metsies will show. If Moyer blows it in the 7th the Moyer haters will show. Just aggrevates me. The next person who says we need to tarde Moyer or trade Happ and Bastardo I am going to go off on…
June 6th, 2009 at 12:17 am
I thought that Howard ball was gone too and we’d be up by 4. I feel like we’re pressing our luck here with Moyer.
I like Wheels, a link to my youth listening to the Phils. Especially now that Harry, Whitey and Andy are gone. Andy still lives but is out of our lives.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:17 am
I’m not sure if anyone mentioned it, but Penny gave up 5 ER in 5.2 innings tonight to raise his ERA to 5.85 Please stay far, far away from this guy.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:17 am
Adam Dunn is on pace to become the first player to ever hit more homeruns than the number of wins for his team.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:18 am
oh almost Rauuuul
June 6th, 2009 at 12:18 am
Raul totally f’d that up. T-Mac is clueless sometimes.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:18 am
Keith – Wheels is one of those people we hate to love and love to hate. He is really annoying, but know he is loyal.
Nice try Rauuuul. Ok, we can get out of this..
June 6th, 2009 at 12:18 am
Pitching against the Padres in Petco can make a lot of pitchers look good. I’m a bit worried about Keith Law’s characterization of Happ as a “fringe #5 starter”.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:19 am
T-Mac is too timid to criticize a Phillie.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:19 am
Ok, NOW get the pen going and ready. I still stand by putting him out there
June 6th, 2009 at 12:19 am
Ryan “Gold Glove” Howard
June 6th, 2009 at 12:20 am
cxl72 – Harry never did it either, so I am not sure that is correct. We do enough criticizing for them!
June 6th, 2009 at 12:20 am
Howard has one of the better fielding turnarounds in one year that I have ever seen.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:20 am
Oh geez, Ibanez butchered that one.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:20 am
Ryan Howard’s defense has been ALl world
Griffin — I worry about Happ too. I read that article and Law was criticized as a Phillies hater but I still have Happ doubts.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:21 am
wwwops ALL WORLD
June 6th, 2009 at 12:21 am
Georgie/Morris – someone said we should trade for Dunn like trade Happ and Bastardo. I crap you not it is on one of these boards… Ok a nice ground ball…
June 6th, 2009 at 12:21 am
I’d really like to see the Phillies bring Scott Graham back, I thought he was great.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:21 am
T Mac “Raul kept that from being an extra-base hit”. Ummm, yeahhh.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:22 am
See ground ball – he listened to me… Now Loney we have to watch. Walk him, hit him, but don’t give him a ball to hit.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:22 am
IMHO, TMac is one of those guys who could be shipped out to the Giants broadcasting team, and if you didn’t know it, you would think he grew up in the San Fran area, followed the team and has been working for them for his whole career.
He is just too fake, i guess, to put it bluntly.
Nice work Moyer, now lets get outta this one and go hit..
June 6th, 2009 at 12:22 am
At this point, the Nationals should just focus on getting Dunn to keep the ball in front of him. Like a goaltender. Don’t even attempt to teach him to catch.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:23 am
Bruntlett bashing?
June 6th, 2009 at 12:23 am
Wow! I’m so glad Bruntlett is out there!
June 6th, 2009 at 12:23 am
Morris, listen to him each morning on XM175. He and Buck Martinez are great. I used to listen to Fox News at work, now I listen to them.
Ok, that sucks, but it is ONE. Better than a tie game.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:23 am
DAMMIT BRUNTLETT!
June 6th, 2009 at 12:24 am
But MP T-Mac reimagines plays and describes them like he is doing radio. We can see what is going on. Aaaah Bruntlett. When youre the 25th man you can’t make bad plays.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:24 am
Ok, the Bruntlett haters will show now
June 6th, 2009 at 12:24 am
Bring in Stairs! He wouldn’t have done any worse!
June 6th, 2009 at 12:24 am
bruntlett sucksssssssssssssssssssss
June 6th, 2009 at 12:24 am
oh, crap, now I’m getting nervous.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:25 am
Yeah a 1 run lead is never a good thing with the Dodgers!
June 6th, 2009 at 12:25 am
Howard just looks much more confident and sure of himself out there this year, which, in turn has led to much better play
June 6th, 2009 at 12:25 am
See here they come; all the good work he has done and now the haters show
June 6th, 2009 at 12:26 am
cxl72 – I was all for moving LA and Scott Frenzke to TV when Haoory passed. I still think they would be better on TV. No argument
June 6th, 2009 at 12:26 am
Our defense has been so great for so long. We just had a few brain cramps here. We did that in one of the Mets games too. Bad defense is contagious.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:26 am
I liked Scott Graham as well
June 6th, 2009 at 12:26 am
sigh of relief
June 6th, 2009 at 12:27 am
Great outing from the old man tonight!
June 6th, 2009 at 12:27 am
Ok, only one… Moyer is in line for the W. Now we need to get both runs back, bring in Madson and Lidge.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:27 am
Ok, let’s get some runs
June 6th, 2009 at 12:27 am
I meant to say Harry as in HK by the way
June 6th, 2009 at 12:27 am
This is why I wrote about Bruntlett today. If you have to start someone in emergency, either he’s average or better at the plate or in the field. Bruntlett is neither.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:28 am
Ibanez-Feliz-Bruntlett-Coste-Dobbs/Stairs/Victorino
June 6th, 2009 at 12:29 am
But Bruntlett is an infielder and he’s adequate as a backup middle infielder.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:29 am
Beardo can make up for the bad play with his bat now.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:29 am
Tim M., respectfully, and I respectfully disagree – he is not a bad guy he is average. He won’t be a gold glover or hit like Howard, but he does the job 99% of the time.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:29 am
Yeah MP. Phils need to re-evaluate who is on TV / Radio. Last year they assigned T-Mac to walk around the stadium and do fluff human interest stuff like talking about water fountains and stadium elevators.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:30 am
He judged the ball wrong, damn, get off his back, he plays 3 times a month, damn lol
June 6th, 2009 at 12:30 am
Well, if they win Moyer is the Ashburn award I would vote anyway
June 6th, 2009 at 12:30 am
Ibanez tends to get a hit after a defensive miscue. Like last time against the Dodgers in Philly during the BPS
June 6th, 2009 at 12:31 am
OLE!
June 6th, 2009 at 12:31 am
cxl72 – you get no argument from me there only that it is going to take T-Mac some time to get a feel.
There is our error back, now we need to get the runs back
June 6th, 2009 at 12:31 am
cxl72, i heard on the radio that when this year is over they will re-evaluate the whole broad cast situation, which to me, means people are moving.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:31 am
Jamie’s all wound up now, looks like a weight has been lifted off of him. Way to go Jamie!
June 6th, 2009 at 12:31 am
Bruntlett is not the guy you want as your back up. Mayberry or Taylor would be great right now! Is it that essential we have 3 lefty relievers that we can’t bring one of them up?
June 6th, 2009 at 12:32 am
All I can say is they better leave LA and Scott Frenske employed – preferrably together. I look for those two on XM
June 6th, 2009 at 12:32 am
As an infielder, MP, I agree with you defensively. But he’s not an average outfielder.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:33 am
I agree that Bruntlett is not an adequate backup OF, but he’s the consumate 25th man on the roster as a backup middle infielder.
This is the problem with carrying 13 pitchers, you only have one righty bat on the bench (besides the backup catcher).
June 6th, 2009 at 12:34 am
Little Guy it wouldn’t surprise me if they totally changed it up in the broadcast booth. They may want cut costs and save some $$.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:34 am
Dear Orlando, You are no Chase Utley in the field or at bat.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:34 am
nice hits Ibanez and Feliz
June 6th, 2009 at 12:34 am
The radio broadcast of LA and Frenske is so perfect that they should not tamper with it at all. I would even let Jim Jackson do some more work on TV.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:35 am
“Ibanez read it beautifully” -TMac…yet he’s only on 2nd, he should be on 3rd….
June 6th, 2009 at 12:35 am
Tim M. – Ok, I will agree with you there. maybe they should consider Taschner for Mayberry though and let the kid platoon as Vic heals and Werth struggles…
Good job by the Beard
June 6th, 2009 at 12:35 am
I was going to make the same exact point as Griffin. Bruntlett creates an extra roster position because he backs up SS/2ND and OF.
Look The Beard just got the bunt down.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:35 am
ichiro is probably gonna end the hit streak tonight.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:35 am
Is it just me, or was the perfect at bat for Bruntlett?
June 6th, 2009 at 12:36 am
Agreed cxl72…..
Beautiful bunt by Grizzly
June 6th, 2009 at 12:37 am
nice bunt Bruntlett
June 6th, 2009 at 12:37 am
Please Little Guy, don’t torment yourself actually listening to what T-Mac says. Just listen to the smoothness of his voice. I listen for content and it drives me crazy.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:37 am
If you ever get the chance, watch Ichiro on a day-to-day basis. He is absolutely incredible. You don’t see it in highlights. But just all of the small things he does.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:37 am
I think we should start a campaign for our own Tim Malcolm to join the Phillies broadcast team, he has a very pleasant voice if you’ve listened to some of the Nation Minutes or his interviews.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:38 am
Morris, I agree. I listened to them in the car, when I cancelled my classes, when they won the world series. LA was as happy and emotional (I admit it) as I was. I also listened to them on the day HK passed. I was so moved I e-mailed the Phillies and told them to tell them to stop apologizing for being emotional. They did a fantastic job. I will never utter a negative word on those two. I feel as though I was with the best of times and worst with them.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:39 am
If Tim M gets hired as their field reporter, I want to volunteer my time as a columnist for Phillies Nation like Tim, Amanda and the other guy LOL
June 6th, 2009 at 12:39 am
Good AB by Dobbs
June 6th, 2009 at 12:40 am
Georgie, he speaks so eloquently, like an Angel sent from the heavens..
June 6th, 2009 at 12:40 am
oh well Dobbs
June 6th, 2009 at 12:40 am
Regardless of the outcome a good AB. NOW here is Stairs
June 6th, 2009 at 12:40 am
Ichiro is one of those guys I don’t see enough of.
Terrible job by Dobbs. If Rollins leaves another 2 on base they are just begging to lose.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:41 am
HAHAHHAHA They won’t mess with Stairs. So they want to pitch to Jimmy.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:41 am
Incase of emergency…use Stairs!
June 6th, 2009 at 12:41 am
cxl72 – terrible outcome but a good AB fighting off good pitches.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:42 am
come on Jimmy
June 6th, 2009 at 12:42 am
Ok, is Jimmy going to come through? I would tell him to stand there until he has two strikes
June 6th, 2009 at 12:42 am
Praise for Dobbs? He worked a 2-0 count and couldn’t hit a fly ball on 2-0 or 2-1….and then swung at ball 4.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:43 am
He’s due..lets go
June 6th, 2009 at 12:43 am
2-1, jimmy has to be ready here to do SOMETHING
June 6th, 2009 at 12:43 am
Disappointing from Dobbs against a righty there
June 6th, 2009 at 12:43 am
Last year, when I first bought my house. I was working on the house, painting and what not. I listened to the radio broadcasts every night for about 6 weeks straight. And I remember some of the games so clearly. And just the goofy things LA would pull out of nowhere.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:44 am
I do not know about that being ball 4. This zone is a bit incosistent and it is Todd Tischnor (the one who ejected 4 people) behind the plate
June 6th, 2009 at 12:44 am
GIFT WOW
June 6th, 2009 at 12:44 am
This ump will be back in the PCL soon. 5 balls and 1 strike.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:44 am
On the commercial I will hit my DVR and check it out.
0 for 10 on the road trip
June 6th, 2009 at 12:44 am
I just screamed the F Bomb
June 6th, 2009 at 12:44 am
dang
June 6th, 2009 at 12:45 am
Damn it Jimmy
June 6th, 2009 at 12:45 am
Oh, Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy….
June 6th, 2009 at 12:45 am
Jimmy is lucky that Victorino is injured, because he should be riding the pine or batting 7th.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:45 am
On the LA trip rather
June 6th, 2009 at 12:45 am
1-15 with RISP tonight
June 6th, 2009 at 12:46 am
You are right MP about the strikezone. i just rewound the Rollins AB and the first strike was a foot outside.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:46 am
cxl72 – I apologize, it looked more onthe plate when i saw it, it was very low and inside. I am sorry. I was wrong, horrible AB by Dobbs.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:46 am
Hey, I will say my lifelong dream was to be the play-by-play man for the Phillies.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:46 am
What is the record for LOBs in a season? For as many runs as they score, it still looks like a lotta people left on base.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:47 am
Grind it out game here…Let’s get the DubYA
June 6th, 2009 at 12:47 am
bullpen time, come on Romero
June 6th, 2009 at 12:47 am
Hey Jimmy, HIT IT ON THE GROUND.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:47 am
Chooch is in. He’s as comfortable as a nice flannel top. They are also playing Journey at the Stadium. Everything is coming up Millhouse.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:47 am
Let’s not all jump on Lidge should this game end the way a lot of us suspect it will. This game should have been put away by the 6th. The offense has come up short a couple times since then.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:48 am
Ok, so we concede to one another LOL
Dobbs pitch was very low and inside though. This umpire is very inconsistent. He is new though. One thing I have noticed; the blown calls in MLB are by the same circle of umpires I have noticed. No one harps on that and some of the others are doing a great job.
6 more outs
June 6th, 2009 at 12:48 am
I am pretty sure it is Lieutenant Frank Drebin working behind the plate tonight.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:48 am
5 more outs
June 6th, 2009 at 12:48 am
No need to apologize MP. Tonight the strike zone is not consistent.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:49 am
Just turned on the TV and off the radio. This IS the same ump who made an ass out of himself a short time ago. I cannot believe they still have him up in the majors.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:49 am
Tim M., I can admire that! I have always wanted to be an MLB umpire – and a good umpire too!
June 6th, 2009 at 12:49 am
Tim, send them a tape, I’m serious, you have a great voice.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:50 am
HAHAHA Morris, GRRREAT Call
June 6th, 2009 at 12:50 am
Yup, but he is new. We ALL were new once, just like T-Mac, so I try and cut slack on everyone new. THROW A STRIKE JC
June 6th, 2009 at 12:50 am
“BALL???”
June 6th, 2009 at 12:50 am
love the radio guys. i’m out of market so i bought the mlb gameday audio the past two years. franzke’s call of the stairs homer, with LA screaming in the background is saved on my work computer and still gives me chills.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:51 am
Morris – as long as he doesn’t sing the National Anthem
June 6th, 2009 at 12:51 am
I like that Morris. Saw Naked Gun for the first time in like 10 years. A classic.
AGH has a good point above. If we get a bad outcome so many people could wear the Steve Jeltz gag of shame.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:51 am
I always wanted to be the Phanatic. To this day, I still look for oppurtunities to wear a silly costume.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:51 am
noooooooo
June 6th, 2009 at 12:51 am
Enrico Pollazo! Enrico Pollazo!
June 6th, 2009 at 12:52 am
On MLB XM the other morning with Scott Graham they were discussing that umpire and the producers played (pardon my spelling) “Hey, it’s Enrico Pollasco” during the talking. You had to be there but it was hilarious
June 6th, 2009 at 12:52 am
uh-oh
June 6th, 2009 at 12:52 am
can I please have a DP?
June 6th, 2009 at 12:52 am
I don’t understand why they left Romero in?
June 6th, 2009 at 12:53 am
Where’s Ryan???
June 6th, 2009 at 12:53 am
I wore my Lidge shirt yesterday, I have my Ashburn 1 shirt on tonight. I support Lidge. This game should be about 10-1
June 6th, 2009 at 12:53 am
I did the same thing with the Naked Gun. I had not watched it in maybe 12 years, and watched it last summer. I was in tears because I was laughing so much.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:54 am
Dodgers have a good record with one run, so we need a GROUND BALL
June 6th, 2009 at 12:54 am
speaking of bad umps, i was watching the beginning of the pirates/mets game yesterday and that crew was terrible. four missed calls (three at first base, one at third) in three innings. two of them on the same player called safe after getting picked off at first, and safe at third after being thrown out. i hope we don’t see them soon.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:54 am
Maybe Romero is in to keep the runner on 1st honest. Madson is an anvil waiting to be dropped on the Dodgers.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:54 am
Oh God, I just almost had a heart attack
June 6th, 2009 at 12:54 am
That movie was filmed at Dodger Stadium even though it was the Angels.
My heart just stopped
June 6th, 2009 at 12:55 am
The radio announcers are saying that Madson may not be available
June 6th, 2009 at 12:55 am
So, Morris, you like to play dress-up? Interesting…..
June 6th, 2009 at 12:55 am
4 more outs
June 6th, 2009 at 12:55 am
Nice
June 6th, 2009 at 12:55 am
k I’ll take it
June 6th, 2009 at 12:56 am
nate, those calls when Daniel Murphy was on base were just horrible yesterday.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:56 am
Ah Brett Butler yess….
June 6th, 2009 at 12:57 am
Charlie said Romero would be his 8th inning guy the other day. No clue about Madson. Isn’t Pierre a Switch hitter? I could be wrong. Maybe the Dodgers will tarde Pierre for Rollins LOL KIDDING
June 6th, 2009 at 12:57 am
Oh, no. If Ryan is not avail, they might not let Lidge go, either.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:57 am
why isnt madson available? he didnt pitch yesterday
June 6th, 2009 at 12:57 am
UGH
June 6th, 2009 at 12:58 am
YES!
June 6th, 2009 at 12:58 am
huge K
June 6th, 2009 at 12:58 am
nate, i was listening on the radio to the mets broadcast and their announcers thought the umps missed almost all of the calls when murphy was on the bases early in the game.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:58 am
Exhale!
June 6th, 2009 at 12:58 am
3 more outs
Can SOMEONE score a run for us?
June 6th, 2009 at 12:58 am
MP Yeah i thought he was too, maybe he batted LH so he could beat out something on the ground…
June 6th, 2009 at 12:58 am
If I have a heart attack in early June, I might not be around in September/October. Someone spread my ashes between where the Vet was and the Cit…
June 6th, 2009 at 12:59 am
now for a run or two or five
Utley-Werth-Howard-Ibanez-Feliz
June 6th, 2009 at 12:59 am
Juan Carlos comes through again…
June 6th, 2009 at 12:59 am
cxl72 – I watched it, they missed that one call. That game should have been 1-0 won by the Nats
June 6th, 2009 at 1:00 am
this is the type of game that good teams lose and great teams win.
i remember them from last year.
i’d be all frustrated because we wasted so many opportunities. but we won anyway, and i was confused because we didnt have to be perfect to win.
anyone else have that happen to them??
June 6th, 2009 at 1:00 am
Remember back when the Phillies had a leadoff hitter? You know, the type of player who could get on first, steal second and then make it home within a batter or two.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:00 am
Little Guy – I am going to check that one out
June 6th, 2009 at 1:01 am
mp, i think they focus so much on quest-tec and being home plate umps the quality control elsewhere just stinks.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:01 am
I am going to say this now while I look up my answer. If we win this now, we ONLY won because Jamie Moyer was masterful. We sucked offensively
June 6th, 2009 at 1:02 am
I’ve always said that the perfect Philadelphia game is when the Phillies/Eagles/Sixers/Flyers play like total crap for most of the game, and then win. So you get to scream, curse and boo and have fun. And then the team wins.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:02 am
That’s 2 games in a row without great offense. Offense can be streaky.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:02 am
cxl72 – I have heard that as well. Like I said it is the same umps blowing the calls. Not all of them. While I won’t name names as I do not agree that is condusive, read the names of the umps. The same ones do it over and over.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:03 am
According to Yahoo Sports, Pierre bats L and throws L
June 6th, 2009 at 1:03 am
Juan Pierre is listed as a straight lefty. I thought he was a switch hitter
June 6th, 2009 at 1:03 am
Ha, it would be hasty to send a tape, but if they scout for a voice, I’m at front of the line. I wasn’t exaggerating when I spoke about the influence Harry had on me — I used to call Phillies games when I was 3 because of him.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:03 am
so good to have JC back
June 6th, 2009 at 1:04 am
Tim – let me know, I will volunteer part time for you here if you get it LOL I’d love to write for Phillies Nation free of time!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:05 am
You almost never see Utley swing at a pitch like that..
June 6th, 2009 at 1:05 am
I like that one Morris. Its so funny to follow the Phils because we don’t have that complicated polarizing figure:
Iverson, Barkley, Lindros, Rolen, Schilling, McNabb, TO, Randall, blah, blah, blah
Just 25 guys grinding to win….
June 6th, 2009 at 1:06 am
Yeah I went to the Dodgers site and checked… I knew Furcal was a switch hitter as is Hudson…
Lidge to face Furcal, Hudson and some other guy – jeepers
June 6th, 2009 at 1:06 am
Kemp – yeah
June 6th, 2009 at 1:06 am
nice hit Werth
June 6th, 2009 at 1:06 am
That’s 4 times on base tonight for Werth
June 6th, 2009 at 1:06 am
Now this would be a great time for Werth to steal a base.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:06 am
Howards not polarzing to people?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:07 am
Furcal-Hudson-Blake
June 6th, 2009 at 1:07 am
cxl72: as far as not having to be perfect to win, it didn’t hit home until the World Series, when they won those games while being god awful with runners in scoring position.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:07 am
I just write on there and then ignore the game for a minute so my heart won’t explode
June 6th, 2009 at 1:08 am
Blake yeah, that’s the ticket – then Loney if anyone gets on
June 6th, 2009 at 1:08 am
I’m thinking Little Guy those people that put their foot in the mouth or have moody / complicated demeanors.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:08 am
Ok, that pitch was like 6 inches inside
June 6th, 2009 at 1:09 am
Little Guy – how can anynoe not like Howard? I mean A-Rod you can dislike, but Howard?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:09 am
Right AGH. We’re so good that we don’t have to take advantage of every opportunity. Its actually pretty cool.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:09 am
That is what I love about this Phillies team. There is no player that I can’t stand. They don’t have that Rheal Cormier type player that you know once he comes into the game, bad news is going to follow. And even as bad as Bruntlett can be, his a very likeable player who is always going to give 100% on every play.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:09 am
come on Rauuul
June 6th, 2009 at 1:10 am
Rauuuul
June 6th, 2009 at 1:10 am
Thats unfair when you have an accurate slider and a 95mph fastball
June 6th, 2009 at 1:10 am
and a portion of my ashes into the ocean in Jersey. I need a new hobby.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:11 am
Howard drives me crazy like McNabb but doesn’t have veiled threats, a blog or a mom that manipulates that media.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:11 am
That second pitch to Ibanez was at least 6 inches off the plate
June 6th, 2009 at 1:11 am
Morris – that is 99% why I am opposed to making any trades until June 30. Let them mesh and see what happens. If we win tonight, we are 5-0 in June, the toughest month on our schedule and 4 games up. If we lose, we are still doing OK!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:11 am
So was the 3rd pitch
June 6th, 2009 at 1:12 am
BRAD LIDGE TIME……. now he can really prove he’s back
June 6th, 2009 at 1:12 am
Thank goodness thats not the same Broxton we faced last October.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:12 am
well no runs there
June 6th, 2009 at 1:12 am
Check out gameday to see what a horrible strike zone this ump has
June 6th, 2009 at 1:12 am
MP, im not saying dislike….Some people would think of Howard as a polarizing figure (not me) because of all the strike outs and bat at-bats, then when he hits homers and drives in runs he’s beloved…also people got on him about his contract demands and what not…you feel me? ha
June 6th, 2009 at 1:12 am
Griffin, watch the strike zone pucker up like our collective sphincter in the bottom of the 9th.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:13 am
anybody scared?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:13 am
cxl72 – This kid will be a great closer as he gets more experience. He will be the balls (sorry) off of K-Rod and some other good relievers. This kid is young, but as he gets more depth, he will be excellent!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:13 am
@ Morris Plus Bruntlett has the best beard everrrrr
June 6th, 2009 at 1:13 am
I can see why Howard is so infuriating. All he did last season was lead the NL in homeruns and RBI.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:13 am
To be honest, I’m pretty scared right now
June 6th, 2009 at 1:13 am
TMac singing?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:14 am
@ Keith: frightened.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:14 am
I love that Jimmy is so smiley tonight. I guess he is happy that he left a million guys on base and is 0-5. waste oid
June 6th, 2009 at 1:14 am
Keith, not yet. I have faith in Lidge. This is his test. Even if he blows it, it won’t be his fault entirely. This should be a 10-1 blowout if our offense did it. As I said though, I think he will be fine. he made the adjustment.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:14 am
Anyone catch T-Mac go Da na na Da na na Da na na
June 6th, 2009 at 1:14 am
T-Mac ” Dadadaaa dadadaaa dadadaaaa.” lol wth was that
June 6th, 2009 at 1:14 am
yeah, you can tell these guys really enjoy playing together, great rapport, I’d hate to make any big changes now.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:15 am
haha fran you heard it!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:15 am
ichiro’s up with the streak on the line 2 outs bottom 10.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:15 am
haha yeah i heard it. Idk what that was all about
June 6th, 2009 at 1:15 am
DOn’t forget his 0-10 LA record this series
June 6th, 2009 at 1:16 am
brad’s looking a little wild tonight…
June 6th, 2009 at 1:16 am
I am not worried yet
June 6th, 2009 at 1:16 am
come on lidge lead off is so disgustingly important
June 6th, 2009 at 1:17 am
nice K, 1
June 6th, 2009 at 1:17 am
woo, 2 more please!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:17 am
One down, Furcal just looking
June 6th, 2009 at 1:17 am
It might not be a good strike zone, but at least he’s consistent
June 6th, 2009 at 1:17 am
CT – that is normal until the 3rd batter.
2 more outs
June 6th, 2009 at 1:17 am
slider for called strike three. nice to hear.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:17 am
I just Twittered T-Mac about it. I asked him if he was singing
June 6th, 2009 at 1:18 am
Little guy – he hasn’t been too consistent really… I mean, he has a Frank Pili strike zone
June 6th, 2009 at 1:18 am
Ichrio struck out
June 6th, 2009 at 1:18 am
yes 1 more!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:18 am
Nice
June 6th, 2009 at 1:18 am
This ump really is bad.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:18 am
Puli^
One more out
June 6th, 2009 at 1:18 am
Ichiro*
that’s 2, 1 to go!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:18 am
wow, in that seattle game, joe mauer got thrown out stealing home in the 10th. i guess it’s all the rage now.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:19 am
i am so pumped right now. ugh, its 1:18am, only 1 more out
June 6th, 2009 at 1:19 am
3 first pitch strikes to the 3 batters so far
June 6th, 2009 at 1:19 am
Fran – is it actually him Twittering back?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:19 am
The ump must have reservations at a restaurant in 20 minutes.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:19 am
boy i sure like this umps strike zone now LOL
June 6th, 2009 at 1:19 am
1 strike to go
June 6th, 2009 at 1:19 am
One more strike
June 6th, 2009 at 1:20 am
ugh
June 6th, 2009 at 1:20 am
damn
June 6th, 2009 at 1:20 am
It is OK, just relax…
He has done this before
June 6th, 2009 at 1:20 am
MP, i disagree, he has been giving the outside strike all night..
June 6th, 2009 at 1:20 am
no worries finish them off lidge!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:20 am
f
June 6th, 2009 at 1:21 am
Damn, base hit. And of course Loney is 2-3 off Lidge.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:21 am
4 first pitch strikes in a row
June 6th, 2009 at 1:21 am
2 seamer by Lidge?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:21 am
Little Guy – oh yeah his strike zone is huge, but he also gives strikes 6 inches outside too
June 6th, 2009 at 1:21 am
1 more strike!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:22 am
Remember the Movie major League? “Strike this m************r out”
June 6th, 2009 at 1:22 am
Waste another in the dirt…
June 6th, 2009 at 1:22 am
Ruiz is such an asset right now.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:22 am
I’m pretty sure it is really him twittering. If i get a response back I’ll post it on here. Come on Lidge one more!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:22 am
Before last night did the Phils win any games when scoring 3 runs or less? I will check.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:23 am
I dunno about 6 inches. But atleast the players know what hes calling. Martin and Rollins got a couple bad calls, but other than that, he’s kept the outside strike.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:23 am
That is why Ruiz is out there.
Waste it in the dirt now… He expect the fastball, waste it.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:23 am
come on
June 6th, 2009 at 1:23 am
or if you wanna follow me on twitter its, http://www.twitter.com/fdoyle11 Hopefully he responds tomorrow
June 6th, 2009 at 1:23 am
cxl72, ZERO, last night was their first win.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:23 am
Ok, now, I am ballsy, I would go another in the dirt and if I walk him, so what. Blake is not fast.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:24 am
1-15 when we score 3 runs or less
June 6th, 2009 at 1:24 am
No, cxl72, the announcers said that last night’s win was the first win when scoring 3 or less runs
June 6th, 2009 at 1:24 am
THAT outside pitch he doesn’t call strike?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:24 am
Still not worried – yet, although I am getting concerned. Martin strikes out a lot more
June 6th, 2009 at 1:24 am
hmm
June 6th, 2009 at 1:24 am
that ball must have been 6 1/4 inches outside the strikezone thats why its called a ball.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:24 am
How does he lay off that??
June 6th, 2009 at 1:24 am
I’m not feeling so hot all of a sudden! Come on Lidgey-Poo!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:24 am
Oh, jeez
June 6th, 2009 at 1:25 am
That pitch was closer than the two to Ibanez. Gameday shows it was in the strike zone, this game should be over.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:25 am
oh man, this is another nail biter here
June 6th, 2009 at 1:25 am
JeffS, that was a strike the rest of the night, so that is where Little Guy and I disagree
June 6th, 2009 at 1:25 am
Waste it Bradley
June 6th, 2009 at 1:26 am
1-2! Let’s 3rd time is the charm!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:26 am
Strike 2?? Wow. Wide strike zone.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:26 am
oh crud
June 6th, 2009 at 1:26 am
MP, that was low and outside, not nearly a strike.
Feliz, WTF
June 6th, 2009 at 1:26 am
NOOOOOOOOOOO PEDROOOOOOOOOOOO
June 6th, 2009 at 1:26 am
YIKES this is not good
June 6th, 2009 at 1:26 am
GODDAMNIT!!!!!!!!!!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:26 am
Oh God
June 6th, 2009 at 1:26 am
OMG FELIZ!! WHAT A TIME TO HAVE AN ERROR….
June 6th, 2009 at 1:26 am
unreal. pedro never misses that.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:26 am
You gotta be kidding me.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:26 am
That was 6″ outside too, but it was a strike to Martin.
OK, now I am worried, but this game should be over.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:26 am
Wow, Pedro really makes his errors count.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:27 am
A base hit and we lose
June 6th, 2009 at 1:27 am
So not the right time for that!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:27 am
They are playing the Clash now. Another good sign. C’Mon Lidge!!!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:27 am
MP, i told you hes was getting the outside strike! That was a bad call on Martin for the 2nd strike
June 6th, 2009 at 1:27 am
Oh, no, stomach churning now..
June 6th, 2009 at 1:27 am
awwww maaan, feliz! c’mon dude!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:27 am
Terrible loss
June 6th, 2009 at 1:27 am
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING
June 6th, 2009 at 1:27 am
June 6th, 2009 at 1:27 am
Please do not do this to me
June 6th, 2009 at 1:28 am
BAH!!!!!!!!!!!EFFIN A
June 6th, 2009 at 1:28 am
Ok, Lidge loses this game and we really cannot blame him.
Jeltz award goes to the whole team
June 6th, 2009 at 1:28 am
That’s a nice team loss there.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:28 am
EFF ME, NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:28 am
Of all the people to committ and Error…Feliz?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:28 am
This is like last year when we lost those games to the Dodgers during our August road trip.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:28 am
I’m speechless. Just speechless.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:28 am
I think this one was worse than the Yankees loss. The Phillies were 1-15 with RISP, a strike 3 call to end the game wasn’t called and a ground ball to Feliz was booted. Just terrible
June 6th, 2009 at 1:28 am
great job guys. Pedro cant field that ball. Left a million men on base. wow
June 6th, 2009 at 1:28 am
Do we have enough paper bags to go around for the Jeltz?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:29 am
ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh
June 6th, 2009 at 1:29 am
I feel you cxl72, i was just thinking that
June 6th, 2009 at 1:29 am
We can’t blame Lidge, that game should have been over with Feliz. And we should have won it 10-1, but it is all good. There is tomorrow. We are still 3 games up…
June 6th, 2009 at 1:29 am
this was a rough loss
June 6th, 2009 at 1:29 am
Jeltz goes to Pedro! Hands down! That was the ballgame, and he blew it!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:29 am
Horrible pitch by Lidge.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:29 am
Sorry Moyer on blowing win #251 for you.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:29 am
Ouch, that one hurt.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:29 am
Oh my god, talk about just the ultimate let down!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:30 am
I stay up until 1:30 to watch this bs… this didn’t just happen
June 6th, 2009 at 1:30 am
Damn, now I have to try and go to sleep?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:30 am
I think Pedro also couldnt get a runner home from 3rd with 1 out
June 6th, 2009 at 1:30 am
Yeah the 1 for 15 says it all. I am still a Lidge fan. That was a tough, tough loss and blown save for him.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:30 am
k I’m leaving site until tomorrow’s game, cya
June 6th, 2009 at 1:30 am
The Jeltz goes to every player not named Jaime Moyer.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:30 am
I truly feel for Moyer on this one, pitched magically
June 6th, 2009 at 1:30 am
this site*
poor Phillies
June 6th, 2009 at 1:30 am
Well good night everyone, good luck getting to bed after that one.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:31 am
Lidge didn’t get much help, but can we at least end the charade that he is some top end closer? Madson is so much better, it’s not even funny. I’d love to move Lidge and a young bat for a quality starter.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:31 am
I HATE to lose games like that, sh!t!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:31 am
I’ll give Lidge a pass because I think he converted 5 straight saves but he’s been the chink in the armor.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:31 am
AGH, if I buy as many bottles as I want to drink right now, we’ll have a lot of brown paper bags.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:31 am
Greg, too many to issue the Jeltz award, I’d have to issue to the whole offense. I feel horrible for Moyer and Lidge because they didn’t bring that on at all. Lidge walked one, but otherwise did fine…
June 6th, 2009 at 1:32 am
son of a bitch but hey 7-1 in the last 8 games aint bad
June 6th, 2009 at 1:32 am
well like wheels said we didnt score runs when we had the chance. J roll was off at the plate again, and the dodgers took advantage of that. Close game, there’s always tomorrow
June 6th, 2009 at 1:33 am
AGH, you must be joking
June 6th, 2009 at 1:33 am
Lidge did not do “fine.” Lidge didn’t do his job. Rollins didn’t do his job–multiple times. Feliz didn’t do his job.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:33 am
Dont forget Bruntletts error that wasnt scored an error because the fielding was that bad.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:33 am
Well, I guess I will go clean the house and work off this energy. This loss sucked. I am keeping the #54 by my name
June 6th, 2009 at 1:35 am
Little Guy – there they go, just as I said. Trade, trade, trade
June 6th, 2009 at 1:35 am
Little Guy, you truly feel comfortable handing the ball to Lidge at this point? He got so many breaks last year–he should have blown at least five saves. This year, his luck has evened out. Even a casual fan would be able to recognize that Madson is the far better option at this point.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:35 am
Taylor up, J-roll ride the pine for a game or two. I’m only half kidding.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:35 am
When is Rollins going to get his head out of his ass and start hitting the damn ball? His ineptitude at the plate got old real quick and I can’t even make excuses for him now. He needs to start hitting the damn ball on the ground. God he pisses me off
June 6th, 2009 at 1:35 am
We do NOT NEED TO TRADE! Ughhhhh, that more aggrevating than us losing!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:35 am
AHH, everyone shows up when they lose…..i can see why J-Roll exclaimed that we are front runners…
June 6th, 2009 at 1:36 am
M.P., take some more Nyquil and go to bed, it’s too late to clean.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:36 am
I do not trust to get lefties out anymore. I’m sorry.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:36 am
Lidge threw some meatballs up there. He is not an elite closer right now. Hes an above average closer.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:36 am
Lidge to get out lefties
June 6th, 2009 at 1:37 am
Little Guy – when J-Roll said that I disagreed with his words, but agreed with the premise. I hate when we lose a close one everyone wants to trade. I mean, crap happens. It is not like we were a half game up. We’ll come out of it. These are the same people who want to trade bastardo and Happ because they have trade value.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:37 am
Don’t forget that Moyer pitched a HELL of a game tonight
June 6th, 2009 at 1:38 am
It sucks, cause Lidge should have had that save. Shit happens though. You can’t win them all.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:38 am
LOL @ Georgie – I have taken so much Nyquil I slept all day yesterday and today because I was sick in bed. I am wide awake now LOL
June 6th, 2009 at 1:38 am
Geoff, I’m waiting for you to give Jamie some props for tonight????
June 6th, 2009 at 1:39 am
And fans like you always are the first to get on your fake high horse and bash other fans for being mad that they lost a game they shouldnt have lost. I guess we’re not allowed to do that huh? D-bag!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:39 am
I didn’t see the whole game, and 11 hits and only 3 runs sounds like a lack of offensive support to me. However, Lidge seems unable to get a save in close games like this. I don’t know why some of you continue to defend him because of last year, o pin the loss on the offense for not scoring more. If Sanatana had that attitude, he’d never win a game. It’s time for Lidge to go on the 15 day DL if he’s injured and let Madson close
June 6th, 2009 at 1:39 am
Moyer was good tonight. Still would rater have Roy Halladay. Still know its not going to happen.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:39 am
This loss was sorta inevitable. Hate to say it, but the baseball gods punish those who leave so many on base. Stellar defense and starting pitching can’t bail you out forever.
With that in mind, f*ck everyone not named Moyer. Especially you Wheeler somehow I know this loss is your fault.
And does anyone else want to rip their hair out because of that damned percussion instrument at Dodger stadium? F*ck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:40 am
Look Jeltz award goes to everyone not named Moyer or Lidge. Remember, if Feliz makes that play, game over – we win. If Bruntlett catches it – it is 1-0. If the other error doesn’t happen it is a shutout. If we score HALD of the runs in RISP it is a 10-1 game….
So plenty of crap to float here/
June 6th, 2009 at 1:40 am
AGH First of all, K rod blew 7 saves last year when he set the record. So im not concerned at all about the blown saves, he still is tied for 3 in the league in saves. 2nd of all, Madson does well in the 8th, yes, but put him in the 9th is a whole nother animal. Lidge has been doign this his whole career, Madson came out of no where with a jacked up FB and a change.
I just HATE when ‘fans’ come on here and whine and bitch about trading everyone. How about trade Feliz cause of the Error? How about trade Utley cause he struck out against Broxton. Lets trade Rollins cause he went 0-5, his defense will be easily replaced by the almighty Jason Donald or Eric Bruntlett. Also, lets just cut Ibanez for his mistake in left field tonight.
You all must be joking
June 6th, 2009 at 1:41 am
M.P. do you honestly believe Lidge is the permanent solution? You don’t see him blowing a few more saves this year? We have Eyre and iether Escalona or Taschner as a loogy. We could use Romero in the 8th–or at this point, Condrey. Durbin is even more reliable than Lidge right now. I think what we really need is a big time righty starter. I don’t think we can stick with 4 lefties going into the postseason.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:41 am
M.P., I did the same thing when I was sick a few weeks ago, Nyquil up the wazoo, slept for days, then I was wide awake for a week!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:42 am
J-Roll is a front runner. Mouthy until he decides he can’t get on base anymore. More seriously, though, I don’t remember anyone talking about trading Happ, who is doing great, for anyone besides Halladay, and I’d trade my wife for him.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:43 am
Aaaah, Tim put up a new posting and will award the Jeltz. I’ll post on the new article. F!!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:43 am
I am not on any fake high horse, all I am saying is we can’t scream trade. That is all. That is what makes me mad. I don’t bash other phans, because I am a true phan, I just bash that mentality of trade, trade, trade after a tough loss. We are WFCs and we will get through it that is my point. I am not a D-Bag entirely.
Mike D – I like your logic. Wheels did it.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:43 am
Little Guy, do you have an intense hatred for math? Saves aren’t like home runs when you can just total them up to determine value. Converting 63 out of 70 saves is more than respectable. The more opportunities you have, the more opportunities you have to fail. 9/10 is a much better conversion rate than 2/3, which is about where Lidge is right now.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:44 am
Geoff, don’t call any1 a “D-Bag” especially with some of the crap you come on here and ramble on about. Especially trading for every superstar in the league.
Lets hear your thoughts on Moyer tonight, i mean went 7, 2 ER and 4 Hits…sounds to me like its better then a QS?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:45 am
NOBODY is saying trade Feliz or Utley, JUST YOU.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:45 am
AGH – Respectfully, under your logic, we would have to trade for some big mid-reliever, because starting pitching has nt been an issue lately. I still like the OF idea some had, although I still think we need to wait until June 30 to know exactly what we need IF we need anything. That is what I have been saying.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:45 am
The most frustrating thing is that I can’t choose just one player to focus my frustration on. The whole offense was off, but if I have to kick anyone it’s Rollins. If I see him smile one more time after striking out I’m going to flip. We better come out fighting tomorrow and dominate, send a message. Good night all.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:45 am
I second Wheeler for Jeltz.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:46 am
We should just give Moyer the Ashburn award because there are too many Jeltzes to give LOL
June 6th, 2009 at 1:46 am
Moyer pitched well tonight. But if you want to hear it, how about this: BRING UP DONALD TO PLAY 3RD! RELEASE FELIZ!
There, now someone actually did say it, so now you dont look like you made it up.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:46 am
Davek – I agree 100% now with your assessment. I could have not said THAT better myself, my friend.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:47 am
AGH, did you really think it was going to be a repeat performace from last year? He OBVIOUSLY can get the job done in a clutch situation, considering he did it all last year..
At lets think about tonights game… Okay got the first 2 outs.. Blake hit a pitchers pitch for a single… Loney got a 3-2 questionable call for a Walk…LIDGE induced a game winning ground ball to Feliz that he booted which he never does, and Either hit a first pitch fast ball to win the game.
So really, is that Lidge’s fault?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:47 am
AGH, have you lost your mind? Let me tell you something, Brad Lidge saved the World Series! He saved the World Series and you’re suddenly here trying to trade him? What the hell kind of sense is that outside of fantasy baseball? Let me tell you something, it pisses me off when anyone has the gall to think that they know a damn thing about baseball because they listen to the Talented Mr. Roto. The Talented Mr. Roto ain’t played an inning of major league baseball in his life and neither have you, and suddenly you think that you’re knowledge is the Holy Grail of knowledge? AGH, let me tell you something, Babe Ruth himself could be hitting in the minor league system right now and you’d be clamoring for Rube to trade him for the next Kyle Loshe, that’s how little you know about the game! You really want to give Taschner more responsibility? ‘Cause that’s the DAMN SAME THING! Get the hell out of here and listen to Scott and LA if you want to know a damn thing about baseball, and don’t even THINK about opening your mouth until you do. Are you out of your damn mind?
In closing, I would like to quote The Office’s Stanley Hudson: “Boy, have you lost your mind?”
June 6th, 2009 at 1:48 am
Little Guy – I am going to let you respond to releasing Feliz. You know how I feel about trades before June 30 LOL. I’d buy a Feliz jersey myslef…
June 6th, 2009 at 1:48 am
Donald is a joke, he is going to be Bruntlett re-incarnate.
Will someone tell me why he is going to be the 2nd coming of Jesus?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:49 am
MP, i was being sarcastic, i was acting like all of the “fans” who come on here and want to trade and release everyone
June 6th, 2009 at 1:49 am
I am in SC and I have to ask a question that will make me look like a dumba**, “who is the Talented Mr. Roto”
June 6th, 2009 at 1:50 am
MP, nevermind you were talking about the GEOFF.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:50 am
Little Guy, no Geoff said we should about 7-10 posts up
June 6th, 2009 at 1:50 am
Tough loss he this was a game that should of been won but o’well you can’t win em all…btw the jeltz award should go to brunlett.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:50 am
MP, your conclusion about middle relief is totally inconsitent with my logic. Right now, it’s our strongest asset. We have an issue with the backend of the bullpen. This is an addition by subtraction situation. Charlie will not promote Madson over Lidge, the only solution is to move him. While the starters have been outstanding for a week, nobody expects Moyer to continue pitching this way, nor does anyone expect Bastardo to replicate his success consistently. This is an opportunity to seriously upgrade for the post season.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:51 am
Cannot blame Lidge on this one at all [period]. Ok, I would have stuck 3 ni the dirt on Ethier, but …
June 6th, 2009 at 1:51 am
I think Geoff was half joking, and people are overreacting to what he said. Donald might not be that great.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:51 am
MP, Talented Mr Roto is the Fantasy Sports dude for ESPN, he does baseball and football, i dunno if he does anything else…
I know he does Football, since i loveee Fantasy football haha
June 6th, 2009 at 1:52 am
I was kidding because you said that people were saying that and nobody really actually said it. Just like how I dont see anyone saying we should trade Lidge. Youre just saying that. And then ripping on people for not saying something that you said they said. Thats what a d-bag does, pal.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:52 am
He’s the ESPN.com fantasy sports guru. I don’t care much for fantasy sports, but I’m indifferent. Like I said, it’s people who play fantasy and think stats alone makes a player good who really bother me. And then there’s people who think winning a fantasy league makes them knowledgeable…ohh, I do have something to say about them.
I had the volume muted on the Feliz play – did Wheels try to make some excuse for him?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:53 am
AGH, why shouldn’t we expect Bastardo to continue to pitch well? Because Keith Law said so?
Look at his numbers…He has DOMINATED every level of baseball he has pitched, what makes you think he is all of a sudden going to falter?
How can people assume somebody is just going to blow up and stop pitching/playing well?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:54 am
AGH, again respectfully, I do see your point, but Lidge got us to WFC last year and I think he is fine. This game should have been won, but a great manager once said “You are going to win some you never should have won sometimes, and lost a few you should have won”. We cannot wwant to offload talent when crap happens. The good news is we are 3 games up and we have already exceeded expectations in June. We have to wake the offense up
June 6th, 2009 at 1:55 am
Geoff, so your saying, no body has ever come on here saying Donald could start over Rollins or Feliz when they were slumping or had a bad game?
REALLY!?
So im just making all of these things off, i guess my 20 year old mind has all of a sudden gone to dementia…
June 6th, 2009 at 1:55 am
54 – the bad news is that the Mutts have more games with the Nats.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:56 am
No a D-bag adds fuel to the fire. A good phan discusses things like AGH and I are right now. We disagree, but we are not calling each other D-Bags. I mean, AGH may think I am a D-Bag, but AGH is not calling me one.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:56 am
My bad about the rant guys. Unfortunately, no one else is awake to hear me rant. I feel much better after unleashing my inner Stanley Hudson.
AGH, no disrespect intended. This just frustrated me to no end.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:56 am
@ Mike D: I enjoy your “get off my lawn approach.” What you can’t accomplish with reason, try to achieve with volume. Brad Lidge saved the World Series. That was fantastic. I enjoyed watching it. I’d like to see another World Series win. I think the Phillies will need to convert better thatn 2/3 of their save opportunities in order to do that. Are we following?
Also, before saving the World Series, Lidge gave up an emasculating homerun to Albert Pujols that wrecked his confidence and nearly ended his career. Those failures go on his resume alongside his successes.
I don’t play fantasy baseball. I have no idea who Mr. Roto is. Stick to skewering Wheels.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:56 am
things up* my fault..the dementia and alzheimers is sneaking up on me again..
June 6th, 2009 at 1:57 am
I cannot stand fantasy sports, aaaaaaaaarGH
June 6th, 2009 at 1:58 am
JeffS, I agree, but the Nats are competing with the Mutts and had they had a bad call not happened the Nats would have won 1-0. So there is hope the Nats can overcome then. EVEN IF the Mets sweep and we lose 3 we are tied for first – THEN we play them. Again, we may blow this, and I may have to eat crow, but I have proven that when I am wrong I admit it.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:58 am
Got to try and get some sleep, game’s on in like 14 hours. Can I say I’m very proud of myself for actually staying up for all of these games? Jamie and Georgie, two old folks hangin’ with the youngsters, gotta love it!
June 6th, 2009 at 1:58 am
No response Geoff?
Fantasy Baseball is the worst, such a long season, so boring.
But i recommend Fantasy Football, it’s where it’s at..
June 6th, 2009 at 1:59 am
Like I said, AGH, I try to avoid the get off my lawn approach. Unfortunately, my frustration at the LOB + Feliz’s bad defense + Wheels + that damned percussion thing at Dodger stadium = my blowing up at you.
I still disagree with your points, but I understand where you’re coming from. Let’s see how Lidge does in his next save situation. I WILL BE worried if he lets this translate over into more blown saves.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:59 am
AGH – no argument, but this loss is no fault of his and if anyone should be upset it is Moyer. As I said, had the RISP not have been 1-15 I wuold have been fine, but it was 1-15!
June 6th, 2009 at 2:00 am
On a side note… Jonas Brothers on SportCenter? What has this world come too?
June 6th, 2009 at 2:00 am
I listened to Vin Scully tonight on Extra Innings, what did Wheels do, or was he just being him?
June 6th, 2009 at 2:00 am
MP, you’re totally right. We’ll just have to agree to disagree. I don’t name call. And I enjoy an intelligent give and take. My main point is not that Lidge is useless. I think he has value, but I think right now, we have a better option in Madson that Lidge’s presence on the team frustrates. That’s all. I think Lidge is a great guy and hope he gets it together.
It’s ironic, since my first post tonight said: “Let’s not all jump on Lidge when this game ends the way many of us suspect it will.”
June 6th, 2009 at 2:01 am
We could always bring back Schilling
June 6th, 2009 at 2:01 am
The baseball gods punish those who go 1-15 with RISP after doing equally poorly with RISP on the previous night. That’s just how the game goes.
@The Little Guy
SportsCenter and the Jonas Brothers? I knew I should’ve gone to bed for the ninth. My God.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:01 am
54 – I don’t need the heart attacks. Was hoping we could pull ahead enough to audition the kids more before the stretch run. Don’t forget, we are all (except the Mets people here) hoping for the same result. G’night all.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:02 am
Haha, AGH, i did read that earlier, very ironic..
June 6th, 2009 at 2:02 am
No problem, Mike D. The rant on Wheels was hilarious. For the record, I have no problem with Wheeler. I just get a kick out of how everyone hates on him for no apparent reason (other than the fact that he is not H.K.).
June 6th, 2009 at 2:02 am
The Jonas Bros- “Ugly, Uglier, and Ugliest”.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:03 am
I know it was, AGH, which why I thought you were joking at first. I just can’t blame Lidge for this one and truthfully, let’s see HOW he reacts to this one. I think he has to understand. I know what you mean about Puljos, but he has to know that game should have been over and he NEVER should have had Ethier. My only fault was not buring 3 pitches int he dirt on Ethier.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:03 am
Honestly, looking at Rollins at-bats, he hit the ball hard in 4 of the 5. He has no luck at all at the dish so far.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:04 am
Oh, as long as we’re bringing the hate, I don’t want us to forget about Dobbs. Jesus Horatio Christ, you have to get that runner in from third with less than two outs!
June 6th, 2009 at 2:05 am
God Wheeler is useless as a color commentator. If I want to learn something and/or hear honest commentary, I turned on Scott and LA. And he’s such a brown noser. And Harry didn’t like him. To his credit, he didn’t shout when they won it all and didn’t ruin Harry’s call. But still…I hate Wheels. God, Wheels. Can we rename the Steve Jeltz award the Chris Wheeler award?
June 6th, 2009 at 2:06 am
Let this D-bag be clear: I am not opposed to bettering the team, but I want to see how this mix of people work through June 30. We all want another WFC. We all expect a tough June. We may win one we should have lost to make up for this one. Let’s see how and where we are June 30 THEN discuss trade options. Remember Ruben will do what he wants anyway! I just wanted to be clear on my view.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:06 am
AGH, same with Feliz…same with Feliz..
AGH, my only disagreement with you is that this loss isn’t anywhere near being Lidge’s fault. The O was horrific, un characteristic errors.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:07 am
I do love L.A. I was disappointed when they took him off the TV broadcast. Matthews has grown on me, but I don’t think I’ll ever get over his voice. He sounds like Cleveland from The Family Guy. When he says a pitch is “filthy,” I fall out of my chair laughing.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:08 am
Little Guy and AGH – I agree with BOTH of those assessments. But the one time J-Roll struck out he was all smiles. I would be hiding in the tunnel.
Mike D – and that has changed how over his tenure? LOL
June 6th, 2009 at 2:08 am
I’m with you Mike D..
Wheels pisses me off because he acts like he has played the game of Baseball professionally. I love when Sarge used to ask him where he played in the majors and like “Wheels, you would of caught that…right?” Haha it’s funny, yeah he knows the game.. but so does the majority of people on here, but we aren’t arrogant about it like he is.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:09 am
Little Guy – I agree too, Lidge cannot be blamed here and I hope that won’t get in his head. I mean too much other crap went down.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:09 am
MP….Rollins is like McNabb with the smiling after a throw at the feet or an interception, etc…
June 6th, 2009 at 2:10 am
I do like Sarge a lot. LA and Scott should be on TV, although, I would miss them on XM when I listen. Those two are true professionals. I also miss HK a lot.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:10 am
That’s a pretty good analogy, Little Guy.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:12 am
This was not Lidge’s fault. I’m just frustrated that he had two strikes on both Blake and Loney. He had a total of FOUR chances to make that one pitch and he couldn’t do it. Feliz has to make that play, but it would have been nice to see Lidge come up big and pick him up–just one time. You know?
June 6th, 2009 at 2:12 am
There is just too much tonight that went wrong. Look, I am a phan like no other. I bleed Phillie red. Hell, I am South carolina and my house is decked out in Phillie red in Braves Country. I admit I cried like a baby when they won the WFS. But they deserved to lose as crappy as they played in THIS game.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:12 am
Let me be clear though, at the same time, Moyer deserved a W
June 6th, 2009 at 2:13 am
About Wheels Georgie? Thanks… My dad’s friend absolutely hates him..
Did anyone hear him compare pitching to A-Rod as being as difficult as being the Senior Broadcaster of the Phillies?
I was like you HAVE to be kidding me lol
June 6th, 2009 at 2:13 am
AGH, agreed. My actual bigger complaint is why not bury those sliders with Ethier? He swings at anything!
June 6th, 2009 at 2:14 am
I am now officially glad I listened to Vin Scully after hearing that. He HAD to throw his “seniority” around….
June 6th, 2009 at 2:14 am
Agreed AGH, Agreed, he has struggled, but i felt after he saved the one Pads game when he told Sarge in the interview that the knee is good and he is locating, i have complete faith in him now, honestly.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:14 am
I still miss HK too, MP. I could at least deal with Wheels while he was still around. With TMac…it seems like he and Wheels are cut from the same mold. Such inane banter back and forth.
I think I’m gonna go on another rant like above next time Wheels says something to piss me off. Unleashing my inner Stanley Hudson, I call it. Look out for it.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:15 am
Look at one other stat – Broxton is now 6-0. That is how many times the Dodgers have done this n the 9th inning. They are a good team too. At leat is wasn’t the Mets, Rockies or Nats!
June 6th, 2009 at 2:16 am
Little Guy, I really want to be convined. But that save against the Pads was a little dicey. He got some help when J-Roll pushed Gonzalez off the bag. That wasn’t what I would call a no-sweat save, although Lidge doesn’t have many of them, even when he’s going well. The 9th inning always seems to turn into a high wire act.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:16 am
HK knew how to keep Wheels quiet. He ignored him and just called the game. Sarge and HK was a learning experience, and yes, he does sound like Cleveland from Family Guy, I still like Sarge a LOT.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:17 am
AGH, Very true..your absolutely right, i guess after everything last year, he has earned my confidence
June 6th, 2009 at 2:19 am
Little Guy, mine too. I watched him in 2005 with Puljos. I saw the filthy crap Lidge had THEN and wondered why we had Wagner. When Wagner went to the Muts I wondered why we did not go for him then? I liked Lidge from day 1, and I know his ability. He is exactly like Tug McGraw, except throws a slider versus a screwball
June 6th, 2009 at 2:19 am
I was thinking that when Wheels said he had an a lot of decisions, and then, being Wheels, didn’t even care to explain that such comebacks are the reason why. God, Wheels, who do you have pictures of to keep your job?
AGH, isn’t that just how it is with the Phillies in general in the 9th? I remember little about the ‘93 team, but from all accounts, Fregosi knocked back a few strong ones after Mitch closed the game. And then I remember Jose Mesa…oh my. Billy Wagner against Houston…Tom Gordon…ohhh my.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:20 am
Family guy is the sPit
June 6th, 2009 at 2:22 am
Can’t comment too much on the 93′ team considering i was 4 years old…Haha
June 6th, 2009 at 2:22 am
Now I have to watch TV for a while and all I have on is snugee infomaercials or Red Sox history – oh and weather channel
June 6th, 2009 at 2:22 am
I’m sure most people won’t care about this, but it’s a little too eerie not to share. I went to UVa and follow their baseball team religiously. They were on a 7-game winning streak this post season and were leading in the Super Regional against Ole Miss, 3-1 in the sixth. They missed a ton of opportunities to add on, and an error in the 9th allowed Ole Miss to tie the game, which they eventually won 4-3 in extras. Watching this game unfold, the UVa game was gnawing at me–the similarities were uncanny. To see the Phils drop one by the same score, under nearly the same circumstances (error in the 9th) to end their 7-game win streak made things even worse.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:23 am
Sorry, forgot to add that the UVa game was this afternoon.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:24 am
I don’t see the Cleveland comparison with Sarge. I like him a lot though – I always thought he and HK would have an HK-LA type chemistry one day.

Little Guy – I was 16. I laid on the bed after Joe carter hit that for abuot 10 minutes. I could not move. I never really expected them to win like today, but I expected them to get to game 7.
This loss was NOTHING compared to that
June 6th, 2009 at 2:25 am
Mike D – they both talk slow and all, but nevertheless Sarge is a brilliant ball player.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:25 am
Damn MP…
AGH, i was watching that game earlier, the Freshman pitcher for UVA looked real good, i turned it off though after they were up 3-1..that is a strange comparison…
June 6th, 2009 at 2:26 am
Of course the ‘93 team should have won games 4 and 6 and been WFC then too, but it was not meant to be.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:27 am
I sort of see what you’re saying, now MP. I want to actually learn from my color commentators.
Strange AGH. Did UVA go 1-15 with RISP?
June 6th, 2009 at 2:27 am
Mp..so your 32?
June 6th, 2009 at 2:28 am
Besides in 1993 I could not afford a computer (I was a poor kid) and there was no internet like this anyway to release the stress like we all do NOW. Hell, I’d buy anyone on this site, including Geoff, a beer when I came up to CBP. I know we all vent together
June 6th, 2009 at 2:28 am
Yup 32
June 6th, 2009 at 2:29 am
nice nice, im 20, just a little guyyy, hence the name.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:30 am
Mike D, sync up the XM with the TV (23 second delay) and listen to LA and Scott Fresnke call it like I do LOL
June 6th, 2009 at 2:30 am
Mike D, they were 2/11.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:31 am
I don’t do that when Vin Scully, Dibble/George carpenter or Mark Grace/Darron Sutton combos are calling it, but the rest do.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:32 am
Sad, with Extra Innings I have figured out every brodcaster combos and I plan accordingly. I even print the feed that Extra Innings has so I know when the Philly feed is on.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:33 am
Little Guy – You are wise beyond your years with your logic and common sense.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:33 am
Oh, red Sox/Rays game 7 ALCS is on
June 6th, 2009 at 2:34 am
I would…but I actually can’t STAND the delay. I love listening to Merrill Reese/Mike Quick for Eagles games…but syncing up with the TV is tough because of the delay, even with them. And I still love to hate on Wheels LOL.
Epically failing with RISP and losing a close game…seems to be a theme of the baseball gods, no?
June 6th, 2009 at 2:34 am
Haha thanks, i played and now i coach baseball with my pop, love the game.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:36 am
Mike D, I pause my DVR and sync it. It only sucks if my wife is watching it in the other room and I hear her first. Like last year when Blanton hit the Home Run
I did not know how mych I missed the Philly feed until I had to listen to the San Diego broadcasters. Now Ted Letiner sounds like Billy Shatner.
Little Guy – it shows…
June 6th, 2009 at 2:36 am
Little Guy, you do seem to keep a level head. You’re sure your a Philly fan? Haha jking. I wish I’d played…I only know what I know thanks to Ray Didinger, LA, friends of mine who played, and now Sarge. You ever pitch?
June 6th, 2009 at 2:36 am
iight im getting outta here, good talking to you guys, and good night.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:37 am
I was destroyed from baseball for about 5 years after the Phillies lost the 93 series. I went int he military in 1995 and did not follow them until 98 when I was done with my time!
June 6th, 2009 at 2:38 am
Mike D – I proved I am a phan when I went off on someone LOL
Anyway, I am outta here, as HK would have said, as well.
Good talking with you all. See you at 3:55 tomorrow!
June 6th, 2009 at 2:39 am
Mike D, yeah i did pitch aha, i was actually pitching Tuesday at Practice to my little brother and his friends… I always threw hard, but was kind of erratic. I did okay.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:39 am
Yeah and then you got the wonderful late 90s. Makes you appreciate good baseball – I have very few memories of these cause my dad never watched out of frustration. I had to digest the paper myself with no idea what was going on.
Okay, I’m falling asleep. Damn these West Coast games. Goodnight, all.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:41 am
Thanks alot Little Guy – I gotta learn something about pitching when I don’t have the radio nearby. Seea, all.
