Hamels Starting Friday

Posted by Amanda Orr, Thu, June 25, 2009 11:02 AM

Cole Hamels was originally scheduled to pitch on Saturday, however he is being flip-flopped with J.A Happ.  Hamels will now start on Friday.

Hamels will have four starts instead of three before the All Star Game.  In addition,  he will avoid a long layoff over the All Star Break, something that caused him to “rust” last season.

Here’s how we fix this thing.

Bastardo, Carrasco, Donald, Marson, kendrick and prospects for Derosa and Lee. Sign Derosa to a two year extension to play 3rd. he kill lefties.

  10. BS Says:

We should just trade Kendrick for Roy Halladay straight up.

  11. joes Says:

First off I think you could get Derosa for wither carassco or Bastardo. That would make it Bastardo/Carrassco, Donald, Marson and propects for Lee. Heck I’d throw in brown to get lee.

  12. joes Says:

BS, Do you think Clevland would pass up on Carrasco, Donald, Marson, Kendrick and Brown for Lee?

  13. Richie Says:

Joes you realize feliz is having a career year and kills lefties and defends much better than derosa. I like Lee, but how many lefties are we gonna have seriously? I would like to see them trade Bastardo, Donald, and Kendrick for Lee.

  14. Richie Says:

Brown is not going anywhere. He is hurt for one and is our top rated prospect in many people’s opinion. The indian’s are on record saying they want Tommy Hanson or Clay Buckholz talent to get rid of Lee. That would mean Carrasco and Bastardo probably maybe not even that is enough.

  15. NJ Says:

” Bastardo, Carrassco, Donald, Marson and propects”…

Of course Cleveland wouldn’t pass up on that but that’s a package that the Phils won’t offer because it exceeds the kind of package anyone offers. Most big deals for a top veteran contain 2 top tier prospects maximum and others at varying levels, your not going to see 4 highly regarded prospects move in the same deal let alone further prospects.

  16. joes Says:

Richie, I Feliz is hitting .217 against lefties with only 2 hr in 69 ABs. Derosa .339 with 5 HR in 59 ABs. I would use Derosa off the bench and start him against a good number of lefties. We do have a club option on Feliz so this isn’t essential. We just really need some power against Lefties from the right side of the plate. that way you could have Derosa follow Werth. It would also keep Derosa away from the Mets.

I agree that lee is a pipe dream.

  17. joes Says:

who would you guys trade for Penney or Washbourne or neither. I went through every roster multiple times and there’s not much out there to help us.

  18. NJ Says:

If Lee was available the Phils would have a good shot at him since the Indians have multiple needs but doesn’t look like the Tribe are fielding serious offers yet.

  19. joes Says:

That club option gives Cleveland a lot of leverage. They can hold him and trade him at next years deadline if they don’t like what they’re being offerred.

  20. BS Says:

Joes, I just think we overvalue our prospects and assume other teams undervalue their veterans, like we’re in a video game or fantasy league. Teams don’t trade aces unless there’s a contract issue, and Lee’s under contract for another year. Plus, I don’t love our prospects, and think if the Indians wanted they could get higher ceiling players for a guy like Lee.

DeRosa theoretically would be a nice pickup, but at what price? And where would we fit him in to play? Regardless of Feliz’s splits, I don’t see Charlie platooning him. And everywhere else DeRosa plays (OF, 2B, 1B) we have clear starters at.

  21. joes Says:

The thing I like about Derosa besides ripping lefties is he gives us a chance to rest Feliz, Werth, Victorino or Ibanez without hurting the lineup. Chase could use a day here or there as well As much as I like Vic and Werth they need days off or they break down. Ibanez is 37 and getting a day off on stretch of 8 or 9 games is huge. We play 13 straight days from June 30 to July 12 and then 18 straight days from July 16th to August 2nd. Guys get run down during the “dog days of Summer”. I can’t stand seeing Bruntlett in the lineup and Charlie seems reluctant to keep Mayberry up.

These next two long stretches are really going to test the staff if we don’t get help before them.

  22. Maverick Says:

BS….I think you are right saying that we overvalue our guys and undervalue others..but not by much.. i live in NY and these morons are the worst..especially Yankme fans.

You hear these clowns talking about.. “yankees should trade Swisher for Halladay” and maybe “trow in Hughes to seal da deal”…Toronto would be dumb for not takin dat”

  23. Chuck P Says:

Everyone wants Mark Derosa… he’s going to command A LOT. His power numbers are WAYYYY up and his versatility carries huge value for a contenter (a great insurance policy and an everyday contributor).

That’s pretty funny, Maverick. I can almost smell the guido-ness oozing from your comment.

  24. BS Says:

@Maverick, lol, nice. Yeah, New Yorkers are the worst. Can’t argue with you there. :-p

  25. Griffin Says:

Not ALL New Yorkers are terrible!

Cleveland would definitely NOT take a package of Carrasco, Bastardo, Donald and Marson for Cliff Lee. The asking price is “astronomical”, so Cleveland probably asked for Taylor, Carrasco, etc.

The Phillies had to give up 3 good prospects for Joe Blanton because he was more than a rental. Cliff Lee has a club option for 2010, so he’s not a rental either. The price is steep.
