No Structural Damage In Lidge’s Knee

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Wed, June 10, 2009 11:49 AM

Numerous reports reveal that Brad Lidge’s MRI showed no structural damage to his knee; it is merely inflammation. Lidge received a cortizone shot and will stay off the knee for a few days. He rejoins the team today.

wonder if he does any rehab appearances in Reading/LHV/or Lakewood.

  2. Manny Says:

    Phew!

  3. Georgie Says:

“No structural damage” sounds a bit ambiguous to me. Having dealt with a bad knee for years before having it replaced, there’s only so many times you can inject a bad joint with cortisone. He’s also had several surgeries, according to the article, which I imagine were arthroscopic, I just have to wonder how much more abuse that knee can take. The cortisone injections are great for reducing pain and inflammation, but it only lasts so long, and cortisone breaks down bone eventually,so depending on what’s really going on there in that knee, this concerns me.

  4. Grrrumpy Miner Says:

Thats a good thing….I want the Phillies and any other team who face off against the Amazins to be 100% win or lose….NO EXCUSES.Mets are riddled with injuries and everyone knows that, just lucky we faced the teams like the Nats, the Pirates and the Marlins. The next month will really tell where the Mets go with all these good and winning teams we have to face with.

  5. Steve-o Says:

I have to say I enjoy Grump Miner, if only because he’s probably the only rational Mets fan on this blog.
More on topic, I have to say that this year has made me real happy that we signed Madson in the off-season.

  6. Travis Says:

Adam Buschini 3rd selection for Phillies out of Cal Poly – He’s an infielder

  7. Chuck Says:

Grrrumpy…that’s been my point with the Phillies…..now that they have to play the Dodgers, Mets, Red Sox….it’s really going to tell what they are made of for the long haul. The wins agains the Nats and Padres are great and helps to boost the win column…but…..

  8. Scott Says:

any chance in this being a phantom injury?

  9. Chuck Says:

I think Madson will MORE than fill the position nicely. He has the makeup to be a closer. Cholly could have a problem if Madson hits stride by the time Lidge gets back.

Nice to have Romero back, too…the timing could not have been better for his return.

    Phantom injury…..????

  10. Chris.I Says:

I seen this coming 100 miles away! That was there excuse just to throw Madson in the closing role without Lidge, or the Fans being upset that he would fill the role for the time being. Theres nothing wrong with Lidge! Madson deserves the ball in the 9th…Bottom line!

Does anyone know why Manuel pitched Happ lastnight instead of Hamels? Hamels had plenty of rest, so there was no excuse. Hamels has been avoiding a showdown with Santana since last season. That is why he’s paid top dollar…Not to face Pelfry! Geezus

  11. Chuck Says:

Chris…the reaon there is a rotation is for pitchers to go in their turn when it comes up….it was Happ’s turn, plain and simple. To suggest that Hamels is afraid is ridiculous.

  12. Chris.I Says:

Chuck…I’m sorry thats no excuse. Hamels was ready, and Manuel could have easily bumped him up…Especially 3 games ahead in the division, playing the 2nd team contender. I’m not saying Happ didn’t pitch good, cause he did! Like I said…He doesn’t get paid top dollar to have a #4-#5 guy out there to pitch his game.

And I’m sorry but it isn’t ridiculous suggesting that Hamels is afraid of Santana…It’s fact. We would of probably pulled it off and won lastnight if he had pitched, and let Happ face Pelfry…To me its just logic thats all.

  13. ChaseUtleyMVP Says:

    Chris…
    Hamels is afraid?
    whatever dude..

let me ask you this, why would they move up thestart of their ace, who already has been hurt this year, and has been hurt in the past…NEVER goes on short rest?

why? why would they shift the rotation so that Cole could go against the Mets in JUNE!

wake up dude. He’s not scared…IT WASNT HIS TURN

  14. Manny Says:

Chris I: And then Happ, who has been great, would’ve had extra-extra rest?

  15. Kimmy Says:

You really think that Charlie would let Hamels have the day off because he’s “scared”??? That is ludicris. Regardless, there is a rotation, just like Chuck stated. Rotation: Hamels, Moyer, Blanton, Bastardo, Happ….what don’t you understand??

Aside from that…..anyone want to find K-Rod, tie him up and leave him somewhere NOT near a baseball diamond?? His post-win antics are OVER-THE-TOP. I’m embarrassed for him that he is so thankful that he did his job well. It’s like it’s a fluke or something. Annoying. It’s great he got the win and he’s on a 16-game streak but really….c’mon already! Be happy you are good, but CHILL OUT SOME! He’ll probably hurt himself in one of his “I just won the WS” celebrations, I would laugh….

  16. Chris.I Says:

To be completely honest I’m not 100% sure that he’s afraid of Santana…Maybe it’s Manuel who’s scared? I don’t know? But let me ask you this…How many times has Cole faced Santana in his career? I can only remember once, and that was early last season. Reguardless if it wasn’t his turn or not he had a day rest that would of balanced shit out. Say what you want, but That was poor managing on Manuels part.

  17. Chuck Says:

Chris….Happ pitched well enough to win…the way the ball was flying last night there is no guarantee that Hamels wouldn’t have given up 3 or 4 homers. Happ didn’t lose that game. Condrey did.

And it really doesn’t matter…..IT WAS HAPP”S TURN!!!

  18. Kimmy Says:

Chris.I- I’m going to suggest that you take over for Manuel. You seem to know more about what’s good for the team that is in 1st place and just won a WS then he does. I’m sure by switching up the pitchers rotation will work out well for you throughout the year. Good Luck, I’m rootin’ for ya……

  19. Chuck Says:

Ok Chris…why don’t you get all your facts straight before shooting off your mouth. I’m sure Charlie will appreciate it when you’re standing next to him in the dugout halping him mamage the game. And while you’re there, you can tell him that you think HE”S scared. Would love to be a fly on the wall of that dugout for that conversation…

  20. Chuck Says:

    ^^ halping?? mamage??

    2 new words I just made up…

  21. Kimmy Says:

haha, no kidding! i got a lecture from charlie just asking for a autograph! like i said chris….good luck with that….

  22. Griffin Says:

Chris I, Hamels faced Santana twice last year.

  23. Griffin Says:

The 2nd time was a Sunday night game at Shea late in August or September.

  24. Don M Says:

poor managing to have Happ (who has been brilliant) go against Santana (who would have been favored against Hamels anyway?

And now we have the advantage tonight with Hamels going? …

We’ll see.. if we win tonight, then it was a good move to pitch Hamels in his turn in the rotation, instead of going with the 5-day start.

Extra rest, and keeping the rotation as scheduled has worked so far this year..

  25. ChaseUtleyMVP Says:

enough about being scared dude..my god.

THERES A ROTATION IN BASEBALL AND YOU FOLLOW THAT ROTATION

    Kimmy, I’m with you…
the Mets celebrate every little thing they do like it’s game 7 of the world series.

Okay I get it, you beat the first place team by a run at home…IN JUNE

    calm down..

I really hope Cole dominates tonight and Howard blasts a bomb or two off pelfrey

  26. Chris.I Says:

Come on now guys! You really think I’m wrong? The game is over with now, so its history…But you honestly think Happ should of pitched lastnight over Hamels? Happ did pitch a decent game…Im not taking credit off his part. Happ has been above average and seems to be doing his job. Anyways noone can change my mind thinking it was poor management. Lets just whip the Mets ass these next 2 games, and call it a wrap.

  27. Chris.I Says:

    Don
You seem the most smartest here (no offense to the others) but your right…If we win the next 2 games than I can say it panned out perfectly. But from the looks of it now, it just doesn’t make sense but we’ll see.

  28. Don M Says:

That is acutally the biggest game the Mets have won since like 2006.. so you can’t blame them for celebrating.

I heard Reyes has some great new handshake-&-dances in the works for whenever he gets healthy!!!

I THINK that Hamels should have pitched on regular rest.. which would have been last night, and then allowed him to pitch Sunday against the RedSox at home too.

BUT.. he seems to do well on extra-rest.. and it doesn’t matter who the wins are against.. each game counts.. so if we win tonight.. and in his start vs. Toronto (who ain’t too shabby).. then we can’t really complain about it.

Anyone know if we’ll see Halladay pitch? I’ve never seen him pitch in person.. and they aren’t on TV much either

  29. ChaseUtleyMVP Says:

    I believe they miss Roy…
but don’t quote me on that

  30. ChaseUtleyMVP Says:

and I want to leave NY with a lead of some kind..

    not tied

  31. Don M Says:

If we win one of the next two games, we leave with a 2 game lead.. and manage a 6-4 record in a 10 games road trip including LA and NYM.. win the next two.. and its 7-3 road trip

    the only sad part is:
We didn’t spank them like the mighty-Pirates did last week..

  32. Chuck Says:

Chris…..yes…I think you are wrong. It was Happ’s turn to pitch. He did well enough, Hamels has a better shot to win tonight with extra rest.

  33. shag beta sigma delta Says:

Don’t know why the Hamels talk on a Lidge post, but whatever
My concern is not having Madson close, it is who pitches the 8th, JC? Condrey? Durbin? That is my big question for the next two weeks, IMO none of those three have shown the consistency to to shut people down, especially coming in with runners on, I hope, and have faith the Brad will return to 100% and that the next 12 days we can get to Madson in the 9th with a lead.

  34. Don M Says:

Should we limit the talk only to what the title of the post is?

Lidge isn’t too hurt.. which is nice.. there isn’t much more to talk about after that.
They need Madson to step up, and then the other guys to also step up.

Condrey has been awesome (or better than expected) all year.. Romero has looked good so far..

  35. Chuck Says:

Apparantely, Lidge isn’t hurt at all…..that’s what Chris said anyway.

So it shouldn’t be too hard for him to return in full form..

  36. shag beta sigma delta Says:

I think that Condrey, and JC have looked good also, but the 8th inning has not been their roles up to now, Like I said I have faith in Madson closing, but none of the these other guys have ever been in that roll, I am not saying they can not do it just wondering if they have the make-up for it.

  37. Greg B Says:

Haha. Yes, Chris I. I think you are wrong.

Hamels locked in when it counted and all eyes and pressure in the world on him last post-season. But he is afraid of Santana?

Lets go, Phils! Tonight is Big W.

  38. Chuck Says:

Greg B…Chris I is an expert…didn’t you hear?? He thinks Hamels is scared, Lidge isn’t hurt at all, and that he’s a better manager than Charlie.

  39. Don M Says:

didn’t Romero split the 8th inning with Madson pretty much up until August last year??

  40. Chuck Says:

Yeah…Madson and Romero were both 8th inning guys. I could see a scenario where Romero closes sometimes….depending on the situation and how long Lidge is out. But he’s really more of an 8th inning guy.

  41. Manny Says:

I agree Chuck… plus, the 8th and 9th innings could go with Madson pitching 1.1 innings, Romero 0.2, for example… Depending on who’s at the plate

  42. Don M Says:

They have Eyre who hasn’t seen much action lately.. I think they’ll go with matchups to get through each game..

  43. Chuck Says:

Eyre will probably more of the situational left-hander sent in there to get a lefty or two out. I really can’t see him closing….but who knows..

  44. Keith E Says:

Get well Brad and come back healthy and in good form. We need our closer. GO PHILLIES!!!!!

  45. Chris.I Says:

I’m not the one who said he wasn’t hurt…This post, and along with every sports site on the world wide web said there was nothing wrong with him.
