Yes, thank you. All of a sudden all these Kendrick apologists came out of the woodwork for the past week calling for his promotion.

Bastardo must really be on fire if theyre bringing him up this soon, riding the hot hand I guess - not wanting to tinker with guys like Carrasco, Worley, Drabek, etc. Which is understandable and a good call.

What I read of him was a bit different then Tim's post in that I read his fastball is more like 91-95, with that plus plus changeup and a developmental slider. Which is what Johan Santana was like as a prospect. However, I think thats a premature comparison and I dont know where it came from. That would chap the Mets fans behinds though. I would love that - we FARMED UP a clone of Santana. Just like how the Marlins thought they had a Hamels clone in Andrew Miller before he came to Earth.

Still, all premature annointments aside, Im really excited to see this guy pitch tonight. Its always exciting when a prized prospect makes his debut.

Finally, Mayberry wasnt playing AT ALL so he shouldve been sent down earlier to knock the rust off. Charlie does that a lot - calls up a kid and then finds out the kid cant take away playing time from the everyday guys.

If they were at all looking forward to a Kendrick return to the Majors, don't you think they would have given him his chance here, being that he's got so much big league experience, he's looking as good as he can in AAA, and they are playing in a "Pitcher's Park" in San Diego?

If they wanted Kendrick on the roster, he would be starting tonight.. and he's not.. because he's not good enough to help a contending team

I like the guy and im glad he helped us win.. I just dont see a future here with him at all, especially with Carrasco and now Drabek nipping at his heels.

We'll see with Bastardo tonight, I thought it was too soon to rush him up, but if they like him better than Carrasco right now, I hope they are right

Don M, I wouldn't be too presumptious about Kendrick's fate this season. With just 49 games played and Myers likely out for the season, there are several open options contingent on such factors as a failed start by Bastardo, injury to another starter (hoping it's not Hamels), etc.
And the one obvious option is enlisting the aid of Kendrick to their rotation. ;-) How well Kendrick performs will also be a factor in how the Phillies will approach the non-waiver tradedeadline in two months.

I think its funny that you ask for a Kendrick return, and then call someone's Victorino-overrated statement "laughable" in the same post

If Kendrick was going to get called back up.. they would have done it here, instead of this stretch of calling in Bastardo with 2 starts above the AA level.

Kendrick should and most likely will be moved to another organization at some point soon because he has nowhere to go here in Philadelphia.. he can't pitch as part of the rotation for a winning organization.. send him to Pittsburgh for a low 3b prospect

Some observations:

It's nice to read of a poster's comment about Kendrick's continued improvement and has lowered ERA again to 4.05. Personally, I think he is overdue for a callup to the Phillies. Bastardo will probably be optioned back to AAA after tonight's start as JC Romero's official return is due tomorrow. Could Kendrick's number be called?

Manuel's stated intention of giving Mayberry Jr some ABs last week was not followed through as the manager for reasons of his own continued to play Werth inspite of his dreadful slump. He is now hitting .247 (.240 vs righties) and looking totally lost at the plate. With the slump, he still continues to allow himself get behind in the pitcher's count. His bat stays on the shoulder as pitchers are aware and take advantage with first pitch stikes. More often than not, he gets himself out. A message to Werth; a little more aggressiveness is required when in a slump. As of now, offensively, he is an automatic out and some fans have a new nickname for him.."Worthless" Werth.

Oh, and to Don M's comment.."..even with Werth struggling right now, he is still on pace for more than 20 HR and more than 20 SBs..", you may have to lower that calculation if Werth continues to be an automatic out.

Final note; I recall a poster (was it Phil?) commenting a while back that Victorino is "overrated". I couldn't believed what I read there. Victorino came into his own last season as regular in the lineup compiling in 146 games played...293BA; 102 runs scored; 167 hits; 14HRs; 58 RBIs; and 36 SBs. And add that to his defensive prowess, he was arguably one of the most valuable contributers to the team's success.

Now, Victorino is continuing his success this season as he pursue a banner year. While currently hitting .295, he is 6th in the NL with 62 hits (200 hits are not out of his reach); he is 8th in runs scored with 35 (going for another 100+ runs this season); remarkably has 27 RBIs at this juncture.

Overrated? That's a laughable statement by that poster.

He's good enough to pitch in the big leagues.. he just wanted a chance to do that in his hometown..

can't blame the guy for opting out and wanting to play in the show instead of on the farm

good luck to him.. I thought he would have been called-up at some point, but Taschner was too filthy??

Was anyone aware that Koplove is now a free agent???

"[R]ighthander Mike Koplove, a Philadelphia native, has exercised an opt-out clause in his contract that allowed him to ask for his release if he was not promoted to the big-league roster by June 1. Koplove, who was 1-3 with a 1.14 ERA for Triple A Lehigh Valley, is now a free agent."

I don't think by any means they are giving up on them or are going to trade those 2 by any means. I personally don't think they are going to trade anyone on the current starting roster, this is the best starting 8 outside the pitchers in baseball hands down.

don do you honestly think the phils have missed cairo? in what game/situation if so? if anything i think they've been much better off without him and the extra arm in the pen... as i said all along.

as for mayberry, i wish they could have gotten him at least one more start, especially with how werth has been struggling. but if he plays well enough he'll get his chances sooner or later.
