    The Kid is back!

  2. joedad Says:

    Kendrick? Wasn’t a slow-pitch pitching machine available?

But seriously, wouldn’t Escolona be a better option?

  3. Keith Says:

    wow didn’t expect Kendrick. interesting.

  4. Griffin Says:

Yikes. I’ll be rooting for him, but also ready to say “I told you so” once things get ugly.

  5. Marc H Says:

Listen closely and you can hear the Red Sox salivating

  6. Miles Says:

Yeah that is a real interesting move….how many options does Escalona have? Or Zagurski? It just seems weird to not replace him with a lefty.

  7. Steve-o Says:

I don’t think they needed to call up a lefty necessarily. I mean with Romero back, we still have Romero and Taschner, which is good. My question is this: why not call up an actual reliever? Why a starter? I guess the Phils are confident in Park in the late innings now? Kendrick is obviously our long relief man…

  8. Jeff Says:

could this be a move in preparation to trade for a starter? They have no spots in the rotation unless someone is getting moved. If its for the bullpen, it doesn’t make much sense. If they wanted somebody to step into Eyres role, they have a number of guys (Escalona, Majewski and Zagurski all come to mind) that are actually relievers and are probably better than Kendrick. I might be off base here, but this move seems odd…

  9. Greg V. Says:

I’m willing to bet Kendrick is going to the rotation and Bastardo is in the pen (where he can pitch out of).

  10. cm Says:

I think Kendrick will start Saturday and Bastardo will move to the bullpen to replace Eyre. Kendrick last pitched June 6th, which makes him available to start on Saturday, since the Red Sox hit a little worse against right handed pitchers.

  11. Doug D. Says:

The Phils used this year’s option on Escalona by calling him up earlier. He can be sent back and forth between the minors and the big club all season long without using any more options on him. I read a posted comment on phillies.com that Kendrick was called up as some insurance for Happ and Bastardo during the Boston series. It’s possible, but yes, I would’ve thought that Escalona and/or Zagurski would be better bullpen options. Perhaps a trade is in the works. BTW, Brad Penny’s in town.

  12. ChaseUtleyMVP Says:

if KK starts against the Red Sox I will lose my mind.

Bastardo is fine…he has much better stuff than KK and the Sox have never seen him…that alone is good for 5 innings.

KK would get rocked by the Sox in CBP….
not a good idea to start KK…none at all.

    no way he starts.

    Bastardo earned another start…
and KK wasnt any good in AAA anyway

  13. Chris L Says:

With the way the bullpen was used in NYC, they probably need a multiple innings guy just in case. If he starts then there must be somthing going on…

  14. lm Says:

i highly doubt kendrick will start. dont know why they would call him up -i would prefer escalona. anyway, bastardo has pitched pretty well so far so i guess we’ll just have to wait and see with kendrick

  15. Lewisauce Says:

“multiple innings guy?” I dunno. Do you think KK can last more innings against the Red Sox than, say, Zagurski or Majewski? And what are we talking, three innings? Either one of those guys can give you two-to-three innings, no problem.

    I don’t get this move.

  16. Manny Says:

KK better not pitch against the Red Sox on saturday cause I’m going to the game! I wanna see Bastardo pitch dammit! I’ll support the guy, but this move baffles me

  17. Lewisauce Says:

Actually, here’s one possible explanation: a trade is in the works, but not involving KK. Maybe Happ or Bastardo are getting shipped out in the next day or two, and KK is going to be the guy to pick up a spot start or two?

I didn’t see anything happening this fast, but it’s possible.

  18. Mike W. Says:

Off topic but why hasn’t there been a post about the Phillies fan construction worker who just admitted he buried 3 phils jerseys in different locations beneath citifield? this is just awesome.

  19. Kasey Says:

Well, time to kick some Phillie butts this weekend!!! Lester, Dice-K and Beckett vs Blanton, Bastardo and Happ. Wow, Red Sox should dominate this weekend. Phillies are chokers and will not make the playoffs this year. You guys had to go to extras to beat the Mets who don’t have their first baseman and shortstop and J.J Putz!!! Wow. Lester should kick butt tonight at the Bank of Chokers. Dice-K will pitch a dominate game. And Beckett full game shut out sunday. You guys will be lucky that you get atleast once on base against Beckett. Kyle (Japan Joke) Kendrick might start Saturday. Also Red Sox Nation is taking over the Bank. More than 3/4 of tonights, tomorrow’s and Sundays game crowd will be red sox fans. You Phillies fans sell tickets to us for free because you’re scared of weep pippie Phillies to getting embarassed Red Sox. Red Sox is the original nation in the MLB and trust me Phillies suck at interleague. You guys shouldn’t watch. Go watch Golf or hey the AHL Calder Cup Finals!! Or go watch oldies in the swimming pool!! GAme 7 tonight NHL go watch that. Lester is gonna Malest the phillies tonight!! RED SOX NATION RULES

  20. Travis Says:

Hey why are you on this website anyways Kasey? Did Red Sox Nation kick you out of their nation?

  21. NJ Says:

Have I missed something? When did a grouse start between Phillies and Red Sox nation… Are Orioles Nation going to be gunning for us too?

  22. psujoe Says:

Red Sux are in the minor leagues with the DH. WHo cares.

  23. Mike W. Says:

We hate Boston. Always will. I support this as a “rivalry” b/c there is nothing I hate more about baseball than the red sox, except the mets of course.

  24. psujoe Says:

mlbtraderumors is illuding that the Phillies might be going after Penny in addition to a top line starter. What would it cost for Penny. Marson and what?

  25. ChaseUtleyMVP Says:

if they trade Haap or Bastardo and let KK go into the rotation then they are stupid.

Both of those guys have much better stuff than KK…and KK has a mental problem (he said so) and he cant get guys out..

    he’s not any good.
Sure he was great in ‘07 but he doesnt have it..

  26. Mike N Says:

Boston would want Donald for Penny, presumably instead of Marson. At least, that’s what I read somewhere.

  27. Dave Says:

Well, in defense of Kendrick, he’s looked somewhat better his past couple starts. 4 straight QS, going 7 innings the last two. But still, I’m not sure he’s major league ready again yet.

  28. Manny Says:

They better not trade Happ… are you kidding me? He’s now a solid starter in the rotation… you trade him and you’ll have now 2 rotation spots to fill!!!

  29. Dan Says:

isn’t escalona a better option because he’s left handed like eyre?
