Gameday: Cubs (47-45) vs. Phillies (53-38)
Posted by Amanda Orr, Wed, July 22, 2009 12:15 PM
Chicago Cubs (47-45) at Philadelphia Phillies (53-38)
Carlos Zambrano (6-4, 3.36) vs. Jamie Moyer (9-6, 5.58 ERA)
Time: 1:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Cloudy, 76
TV:Comcast Sportsnet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
The Phillies look to sweep the Chicago Cubs and extend their winning streak to 11 consecutive games.
Jamie Moyer is coming off one of his best outings of the season, shuting down the Marlins. Moyer will be playing against the team he debuted with in 1987. In six career starts against the Cubs, he is 3-0 with a 4.19 ERA.
Zambrano has a 2.25 ERA in his last four starts. Not only can he pitch, but he can hit. Since 2005, Zambrano leads all Major League pitchers with 16 HR and 43 RBI.
Your Gameday Beer – Abita Amber
For the afternoon game we’re going with an easy drinker with a light body. The Amber is one of the many interesting beers brewed by the Abita Brewery of New Orleans. It has a copper color much like its bottle with a clear flavor of toasted caramel malts. The beer is brewed in the Marzen / Oktoberfest style so enjoy some bratwurst this afternoon. – By Brian

No Raul today. Charlie is probably just resting him because of the long game and the day game back to back but I’m a little worried that the groin is bothering him again. He looked a little shaken when he slipped on the track last night and then he wasn’t getting good swings at the plate.
I’m sure he will pinch hit at some point in the game if its close, though.
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:08 pm
we are underway
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:10 pm
Danny Iassogna is behind the plate today….what an a$$clown
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:13 pm
Geez the first one on the inside corner was a strike so he just paints the outside corner. Atta boy Jamie.
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:19 pm
2 strikeouts, a bunt single, a stolen base, an error, a walk and a groundout in the first. 0-0 going to bottom 1st
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:19 pm
Jamie isn’t gettin’ those pitches a ball width from the black. I’ve seen two or three pitches that could have been strikes already.
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:20 pm
Nice play Jamie!
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:22 pm
How many straight games has Jimmy got on to start the game. I think it’s 4 or 5. Z already looks pissed.
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:23 pm
Wow… the inning didn’t seem that ugly
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:25 pm
“… Ricciardi confirmed that the Jays will scout Kyle Drabek’s upcoming start.”
Someone tell Drabek to pitch horrible and give up 8 runs! haha
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:29 pm
A walk, a deep fly out, a strikeout and caught stealing for the Phillies. 0-0 going to second inning.
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:30 pm
Pirates made another trade, their fouth of the year
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:30 pm
fourth*
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:34 pm
This is what alot of times what happens to the phillies offense. After a blowout win, there offense goes no where. after 22 runs on reds we scored 3 the next night and i think 4 the night after. it happend last year also. 20 runs on cards and rockies and after that we struggled. monday 10 runs yesterday needed 13 for 4 runs. luckily the pitching has been great for us
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:35 pm
Pirates leading 5-2 over Brewers top 4th. Yankees lead 4-0 over Orioles top 2nd.
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:38 pm
The sad thing for Pirates fans is it’s not like the money being saved is going back into player development…
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:39 pm
Pirates trade 1B Adam LaRoche (6th season, .247, 12HRS, 40RBI) to Boston Red Sox for minor league SS Argenis Diaz (.253 at Double A) and another prospect. So the LaRoche brothers are seperated. Adam in Boston AL and Andy in Pittsburgh NL.
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:41 pm
You think Kyle Kendrick, Eric Bruntlett and a bag of balls autographed by So Taguchi would be enough to get us Duke?
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:42 pm
a friend just told me (and this is probably quite the stretch) that curt schilling posted on his blog that the Phils just extended an offer to toronto. knowing this kid, its probably absolute bullsh!t, but i figured its bound to happen any day now. but how would ol’ curt know 1st?
like i said, probably ALOT of BS but please dont shoot the messanger.
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:42 pm
another report says the offer the white sox offered the jays for halladay has been rejected
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:43 pm

0-0 going to 3rd. Phillies had chances with 1st and 2nd 1 out and then 2nd 3rd 2 outs. But Feliz grounds out and Bako pops out.

Jays GM: Trade talks to heat up next week.
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:49 pm
nice sliding catch by howard in the 3rd and reed johnson caught stealing. bako makes up for first inning error.
0-0 bottom 3rd moyer, rollins, victorino
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:53 pm
Ok… two out rally? Nice hit Vic
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:55 pm

July 22nd, 2009 at 1:57 pm
Hate being at work during games. Can’t get a radio signal here so I’m stuck watching the MLB Boxscore update…
July 22nd, 2009 at 1:58 pm
ut oh
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:00 pm
Damn… bases loaded no outs ugh
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:05 pm
Its batting practice for Moyer today. This is what happens when a good hitting team comes to town. Not the Marlins or Pirates.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:05 pm
shawn- is that so with the Chi-Sox…they worried me the most…their Gm likes to let it ride…wonder if they come back with a offer including everything but the kitchen sink…do you are anyone else know how their prospects measure up to ours? I believe if it came down to a bidding war our depth is greater than theirs, so on that front i not as worried. It’s the quality of the top tier guys that would ultimately decide the outcome.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:07 pm
Stark says Jays GM will phone the teams Monday to tell what he is looking for and the Brewers are back in the mix with Manny Parra, Alcides Escobar and Mat Gamel.
4th inning: single, single, single, single, double, error, groundout, groundout, strikeout. 4-0 Cubs heading
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:08 pm
Yup… Moyer just gave up 5 hits in a row (4 runs)… bad, bad, bad.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:09 pm
I can’t believe we still don’t have Roy Halladay. This is getting insane.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:09 pm
Good Lord, that was an ugly inning.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:09 pm
damn utley should have two errors today. Two bonehead missed catches at 2nd that led to at least 2 or 3 extra bases for the cubs.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:11 pm
can someone tell me why we have a mid day game on a wednesday?
i found this game by mistake today.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:14 pm
business person special?
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:14 pm
Our 50 year old pitcher just gave up 5 hits in a row!!!
RING THE ALARM! RING THE ALARM! RING THE ALARM!
Get Haladay in here NOW.
THIS IS NOT A WORLD SERIES PITCHING LINEUP.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:14 pm
I missed some of that inning, were all 4 runs earned?
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:14 pm
white sox can offer whatever they want . Halladay has a no trade clause and he wants to play on a team that can possibly go all the way
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:15 pm
hmm can we have 5 hits in a row?
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:15 pm
you see white soxs getting past redsoxs or the yankees
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Letdown game today. 10 straight wins looking like coming to end. Moyer pitching terrible and zambrano well mixed with Phillies offense stinking it up since 10 runs on monday. i’ll tune in later and hopefully the fightin phils are back in it.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:16 pm
all earned
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:17 pm
Wow Moyer’s hit allowed to Theriot his 4000th in his career.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:18 pm
no only 3 were earned
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:19 pm
ah ok
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:20 pm
Cubs fan here. thought atleast tune in once here before series ends. hopefully no one minds. Just to clear the full details of trade that Shawn left.
pitt sends adam laroche and cash to boston for argenis davis and hunter strickland. pitt also sends cash to the yankees for the eric hinske deal
Old man moyer struggling today
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:20 pm
Jimmy should have had that ‘double’ that scored the runs and the error occurred just like he should have had the ball that ‘dribbled’ through him.
The Big Dipper
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:22 pm
Phillies Phan here. Am wondering if Sarge is drunk.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:22 pm
A little bit of shoddy defense behind Jamie today.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:24 pm
By not getting Roy Halladay, this is what you will see in the post season.
NLDS
Game 1: Lincecum vs. Hamels
Game 2: Cain vs. Happ? Blanton? What?
NLCS
Game 1: Billingsly vs. Hamels
Game 2: Kershaw vs. Happ? Blanton? Oh no!
WORLD SERIES
Game 1: Beckett vs. Hamels
Game 2: Jon Lester vs. Happ? Blanton? No way.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:24 pm
Geezz you would know the Phillies have won 10 in a row coming in with a couple of these comments. Plenty of game left.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:24 pm
Phillies please please. Trade every prospect for Doc. Including Drabek. Keep Happ, Bring up Pedro and ship Moyer out. Please. I cant watch this guy against good teams. He gives us no chance against good teams. None. Ship him to the 40 year old league. He might get some guys out. Maybe ship Howard out to. I cant watch him swinging at balls on the ground. He is horrible.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:24 pm
time to take Moyer out
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:25 pm
And, also, Jamie’s having one of those games, sigh….
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:25 pm
It’s a rare day that I’m glad to be at work instead of at or watching the game. Hopefully this isn’t turning into one of those days.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:26 pm
Giants aren’t in the playoffs at the moment
and no trading Howard, Jeff r u stupid?
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:26 pm
I’d say that they need to pull Jamie now, but I think Charlie’s already written this game off, or at the very least, put it on the bats.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:27 pm
i think that’s enough for jamie..seriously. like someone else mentioned, this is what happens when moyer is going to face a decent team, not one like the mets/pirates. i know the offense hasn’t been that good so far but you can’t win a game without good pitching.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Jeff,
I don’t think Moyer is the one Doc would replace even if they got him.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:28 pm
In other words if Jimmy comes up with those balls it’s 2-0.
The Big Dipper
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:29 pm
Some people need to friggin relax, yes they are playing horrible today. Lets ship Howard out. That will work well for the offense.
Because being the fastest player in MLB history to hit 200 HR’s really sucks. Lets put Eric Bruntlett at 1st.
Guess positive vibes can’t last forever.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:29 pm
Havoc- I bought a Grundig Mini 300 World Band Receiver (short wave, am, fm) last year from Radio-Shack for about 20-30 duckets. Its has pretty good reception where ever i go and it’s built to stand up against the elements: i left it out in a thunderstorm, dropped it from an extension ladder, and regularly expose it to construction dust and debris…Works like the day i bought it….I’ve listened to many a Phillies game but new york, baltimore an D.C. games to boot…also it’s pocket size and has a stout collapsable antennae, digital clock with an alarm. Takes two AA’s
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:29 pm
Feliz single, Bako HBP, Moyer bunt, Rollins double, Victorino single, Utley HR, Howard HR, Werth HR
that’s what I want to see this inning
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:30 pm
After today. Cubs 48-45. Phillies 53-39. Everybody is tuning out the cubs but if we get into the playoffs we’re gonna surprise everyone. 2SB for Theriot.
Good series philie fans. you took 2 out of 3 but cubs gotta be happy they didn’t get swept by phillies. see you guys in chicago even though im still gonna continue to post here to see how many runs can cubs get today. get all that frusturation out cubs. 10 game winning streak is over phillie fans!!
Milton bradley!!!!!!!!! 5-0 cubs. in baseball if you are hot you will get cold. if you are cold you will get hot. trust me phillies fans. only 1 loss. you guys are gonna lose like 35 times more just face it cubs keep rolling
5-0 Chicago going to bottom of the 5th. 7-8-9 hitters for Philadelphia. should be 1-2-3 here for Zambrano
Moyer: 5ip, 8h, 5r, 4er, 3bb, 3k, 82 pitches
zambrano: 4ip, 2h, 0r, 2bb, 3k, 55 pitches
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:31 pm
Feliz pop out, Bako strikeout, Moyer ground out.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:31 pm
I do not got to games Jaime is pitching. He is great against the Marlins but just aweful against teams that can hit. You knew coming in we would lose today. Howard better stop lighting it up out there. he is so scary.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:33 pm
anything > Jeff
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:33 pm
Mayberry?
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Moyer is done.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:34 pm
loaded them up..mayberry with a hit..no outs..lets go phils
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:34 pm
first off cubbie homo if moyer was not pitching you get swept. the juice from your hopper in left is all gone. he is horrible. enjoy him for the next five years. you will not make the playoffs. the cubs are to inconsistant.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Everybody hits
woooo hooo
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:35 pm
freaking jimmy pops up…what the heck Feliz.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:35 pm
bad baserunning…what is feliz doing???
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Hey Turner, games not over yet bud.
And I guarantee the Cubs aren’t happy walking out of Philly (best case) losing 2 of 3 since they had the “advantage” in the pitching matchups.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Amazing… This team is going to loose around another 30 games this year but apparently no loss is acceptable.
Show some dignity in a likely loss. Moyer wasn’t particularly good today, don’t see the offense doing much… Big Deal
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:36 pm
What the hell was that Feliz… i feel like the Phillies are hung over today
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:37 pm
wow we sure wasted that opportunity.jimmy swings at ball two..you zambrano is gettin wild too…be more patient
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:37 pm
I guess when Moyer pitched well against the Rays, Blue Jays and Dodgers they weren’t good hitting teams? Stop listening to everything you hear on WIP.
O and the Marlins aren’t a bad offensive team either, they can hit, they just can’t take pitches which is what you need to do when Moyer is pitching.
The Big Dipper
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:37 pm
What’s with the dumb base running at third these days? well we got one at least.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Cubs troll? really?
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Turner, your comment is ridiculous
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:39 pm
this game isn’t over
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:40 pm
Utley needs to be sat..but we don’t have anyone to give him a breather..ThAT INNING WAS SUCH A WASTE!!!!!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:40 pm
Turner… like what was going on in your head when you posted that. Like hey I know your frustrated and all but I usually write comments like that and wait ten minutes… only to realize people will think I am a joke if I post it. You are a joke. HAHA.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:40 pm
I dont like to get on Chase but come on. Three ks today.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:40 pm
I have one positive:
In case some people forgot: THEY WON 10 FREAKING GAMES IN A FREAKING ROW COMING INTO TODAY!
Some people are acting like the world is over because the Phils are playing shitty ball today. I think they are entitled to an off day considering they haven’t lost since July 7.
And the fact that the GAME IS NOT OVER YET!
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:40 pm
This is a bad game by the Phils. We should have scored at least 2
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:41 pm
So frustrating to see Utley strikeout in that spot, I can deal with an out, but put the ball in play for the love of god
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:41 pm
yea the game isn’t over
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:42 pm
It is pretty funny to have a Cubs troll on a Phillies blog, is this a first?
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:42 pm
Ok guys we got a game with the Cubs today, and that only means one thing. Bad News for the Cubs.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:43 pm
Chase also had a bad game yesterday. He is in a slump. Also he swung at ball 4, so the bases would have been loaded for Ryan.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:45 pm
time to score
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:46 pm
If only we were allowed to criticize Utley on this site…
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:47 pm
back now. wow you guys had bases loaded no outs and top of lineup and your 1-2-3 guys all get out producing in only 1run. Wow lame. you guys are typical phillie fans. thought youd be better. losing and whining and whimping. 12 more outs till cubs win this one.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:47 pm
I am just worried about the pen, Park pitched alot last night so i am sure he is not available, not sure how long COndrey will be in since he pitched last night too
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:48 pm
Turner, uh u’re a troll . . .
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:49 pm
Utley 0 for 9 now. wow that is the “best” second baseman in baseball
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:49 pm
Turner your team blows, there is not whining here, we have won 10 straight, you have lost for a 101 years with no WS title, go away.
On the other note, this is where Moyer hurts us is that he went only 5 after that late night last night
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:50 pm
Morris, that is forbidden.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:50 pm
I am sorry everyone. I forgot to mention that the Cubs will never win a World Series.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:50 pm
The Phillies and the Cubs have something in common. Both teams won their most recent World Series in ‘08.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:50 pm
here is our chance….
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:51 pm
wow thought phils had best defensive team in nl. 2 errors through 6. i can really see how good this d is and how far the phillies will go in the playoffs which is getting swept by wild card which could be cubbies. Bleed Cubbies blue
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Guys, trolls have no feelings. Best to just ignore them.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:52 pm
hmm
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Is there any chance Park is available, or is that asking too much of him?
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:52 pm
looks like we got an impostor here of me. wow lame whoever you are ulgy phillie fan
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:53 pm
big dipper- well in the playoffs- the dodgers and brewers beat him up pretty bad. Not joining the Anti-Moyer Coalition…I’m Swiss in this battle, …I would however like to see the management when possible to juggle the rotation if he is to face an ump who unable to call the corners consistently, opts for the postage stamp strike zone…Without the corners which Moyer has earned, this can happens..hey 10 game win streak, a probable play-off birth and Halladay possibly in pinstripes i can’t complain.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:53 pm
We have Howard and Werth on 2nd and 3rd with no outs… but Dobster strikes out.. time to show your clutch, Pedro!
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:53 pm
back in the game
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:54 pm
i suspect that every troll is really a Mets fan in drag.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:54 pm
The Cubs know all about getting swept in the first round.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:55 pm
In Play (run(s)!!!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:55 pm
feliz makes up for his bad baserunning
moyer giving up that 5th run now makes a big difference…could be 4-3
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:55 pm
cmon cubs we still lead 5-3
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:55 pm
Zambrano is on steroids Turner. and the cubs suck. your named for an infant bear.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:56 pm
Charlies gets tossed from the game
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:56 pm
Hahaha… Manuel GONE
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:56 pm
toss the ump and the Cubs troll
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:57 pm
CHARLIE!!!!!!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:57 pm
Charlie Manuel ejected!!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:57 pm
big dipper – that’s “red pinstripes…”
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:57 pm
Wow, another blown call by an umpire. Gotta love Mike Assinelli.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:58 pm
LA is RIPPING the 3rd base umpire…
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:02 pm
get out of here Charlie!!!!!!!! get your fat @ss out of here
Phillies are gonna have alot of problems if they go into extras. not many pinch hitters and bullpen guys left. not to mention you guys don’t have a break for a long time. gonna hurt you guys
get out of here stairs 5-3 cubs going to 7th
Big z: 6IP, 8H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB, 7K, 100 pitches – in line for Big W
old m: 5IP, 8H, 5R, 5ER, 3BB, 3K, 82 pitches – in line for old L
Watch as cubs knock around durbin
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:03 pm
Well the Cubs are experts at choking. The phillies are only down 2, and the big bats and bound to come through at one point.
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:03 pm
I said it at the beginning of the thread….Iassogna is a total moron. Every game he umps is riddled with controversy and he always throws people out. Bowa almost punched him out one time. I refuse to believe that he cannot hear that ball hit the ground and that the third base ump can’t see it hit the ground. These guys are professionals.
Aside from that, I love Charlie’s fire and I love Pedro’s clutch knock there. Let’s hold em.
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:03 pm
I just realized that Condrey had a very nice 9-pitch inning! He’s looked very solid last night and today…!! Everyday Clay!
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:04 pm
Maybe Charlie’s temper is exacerbated by his inner Donovan McNabb feelings- “get me some weapons and get ‘em NOW, PLEASE”!
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:04 pm
besides that ridiculous call, the ump gave zambrano strike 3 on a ball that was considerably high and outside to dobbs yet hasn’t given anything to phillies pitchers when the pitches were better
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:04 pm
Amazing chest pounding on behalf of a Cubs team that can, at best, avoid getting swept today. Maybe you should save it for when you are up, instead of down, 2–0 in a series?
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:04 pm
Patience. We have the Cubs right were we want them and we have Raul as a pinch hitter later!
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:06 pm
Turner you sure have a lot of pride coming to a Phillies site after we just beat you two nights in a row, not to mention that we did something last year you haven’t done in 100. (Hint: It involves a nice big ring, a lot of champagne, and its not a wedding)
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:07 pm
Why is it that Durbin is incapable of throwing a 3rd strike? He’ll get up 1-2 or even 0-2 and then just throw balls.
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:07 pm
wow looking at the records, cubs would only be back 6.5 of phillies. and we’ve been struggling most of the year and you guys are on a 10 game win streak which ends today which would mean cubs would only be back 5.5 of phillies. u guys stink.
Ryan Theriot great game today: 2/3, 1 run, 1BB, 2SB, 2TB so far only mistake was error
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:07 pm
ugh durbin.
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:08 pm
If Chase Utley was playing first, he would have gotten the tag down. That man farts excellence.
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:08 pm
DURBIN SUCKS!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:08 pm
Ah damnitall Durbin. Why can you only pitch well in blowouts.
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:09 pm
Turner is a dummy, leave him alone with his stupidity
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:10 pm
These umpires are brutal…
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:10 pm
man what’s with Durbin and these 0-2 counts that turn into walks. Frustrating
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:10 pm
why is durbin even in pitching when he just pitched 3 innings monday??!!
where’s romero/eyre/madson?
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:10 pm
So do Milton Bradley and Soriano fight over who is the biggest clubhouse cancer? Or does Zambrano have the title outright?
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:10 pm
okay take Durbin out
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:11 pm
can’t throw strikes.
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:14 pm
FREAKIN ARAMIS RAMIREZ TAKE THAT PHILLIES 7-3 CUBS NOW!!!!!!!
told ya we knock around durbin 3 walks and a double and still 0 outs
phillies are now gonna lose to pads and cards
time for a long phillie losing streak.
1st and 2nd 0 outs. Soriano at dish. i bet phillies fan leave now. stinkers. Yes bases loaded for baker again who doubled home everyone. yes sir reee
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:14 pm
Ugh…. it’s official now… Durbin should be our use-only-during-blowouts pitcher
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:14 pm
cn the reason we haven’t see eyre or romero is that they have no lefties in this lineup that are any threat. Everyone is right-handed. That’s why we have been using all the righties so much….but I would take anyone over Chad right now.
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:14 pm
should have been eyre from the beginning…they used durbin for 3 innings monday so he’s obviously not rested and it’s showing..what do you expect??
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:14 pm
Turner, why weren’t you good enough to be a White Soxs fan? Didn’t your parents let you? Or is it more that you feel a kinship with the 101 years of futility, so like your own miserable life?
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:16 pm
cn- good point
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:19 pm
be quiet “get zach duke”! because ure getting creamed ure getting all frusturated on me wow. nice SF fox. 8-3 cubs and only 1 out.
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:19 pm
oo expect another losing streak from the Cubs with the Reds and Astros coming up
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:20 pm
cn: yeah, don’t know, maybe they don’t want guys to pitch outside of their usual roles’ in the case of Madson and Romero,..and i guess the last few batters were righties which took Eyre out of the equation…well until said righty with two 0-2 counts walked us into 5 run defecit
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:20 pm
“Ure?” “Frusturated?”
Perhaps there was a spelling requirement to be a White Sox fan.
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:21 pm
I agree. Should have been Eyre in there instead of Durbin. Moyer isn’t doing that good tonight. I hope Raul is feeling healthy… sucks that we dont have him in today.
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:22 pm
Game over. Phils win it 11-8
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:23 pm
and Turner breaks his computer and television
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:24 pm
Get Zach duke – well you know Wrigley’s the largest open air beer garden…
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:25 pm
Chicago Cubs lead 8-3 going to bottom of the 7th inning.
Bottom of 7th: rollins, victorino, utley
Don’t expect a comeback against us phillie fans. we’re not gonna blow it.
We still haven’t used our bullpen yet.
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:27 pm
yeah this is hopeless, once Moyer got lit up and only went 5, I knew this one was over, Our pen was taxed last night.
This is not a bust on Moyer, but that is where he hurts us, with the bullpen having to put in so many innings
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:28 pm
Turners getting excited because the Cubs are getting lucky one night against the World Champions. This bush league psyche-out stuff. Laughable, man – ha ha!
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:28 pm
I must have no life because I post on another team’s blog.
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:31 pm
K well I know this is a baseball blog but still atleast the cubbies have won something. unlike the philly eagles who most of you guys are fans of who have never won anything important
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:33 pm
Yes! Bases loaded?? Will they take Dobbs out and let Raul bat??!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:34 pm
David M. – yeah, a little raul make it all better. I like that Charlie is using caution and resting him more…I had a groin injury and i all but wanted to call Dr. Kevorkian…it’s also an injury that if you neglect the proper recovery protocol can set you up for a season ending sportsman hernia.
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:36 pm
no raul???!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:37 pm
DOBSTER DELIVERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:37 pm
nice hit Dobbs!
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:41 pm
Dobbs is doing a fine job replacing Raul today… 2-4, 2 Rbis… his average is now up to .276!
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Hey Turner, nice life
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:45 pm
Don’t feed trolls. They wither away and die without attention. Thank you.
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:54 pm
Bako, PH, Rollins
Rauuul, Ruiz, or Bruntlett to PH?
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:55 pm
Time to rally the troops!!!!!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:56 pm
What a horrible day for Utley… 0-4, 3 Ks and an Error… Maybe he’ll make up for it in the bottom of the 8th or the 9th?
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:57 pm
Bako gets on!
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:58 pm
Back now!!! 8-5 Cubs still lead bottom 8th. 6 more outs until Cubs victory- alright Pirates who beat brewers 8-7!! now thats a pennsylvania team you should root for
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:59 pm
wow, thats a nice AB by Raul…..for the Cubs!! chases one out of the zone to ground out to move runner to second. You guys need 3 runs to tie not 1. Wasting your outs
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:01 pm
Cmon Shane get on base!!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:01 pm
I wish the Cubs could face Utley all the time. He has stunk in this series. Offensively and Defensively
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:03 pm
Tom McCarthy: “Lou Piniella might not have Angel Guzman face Chase Utley. He might have Kevin Gregg do the, uh…facing”
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:03 pm
Lets go Utley!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:03 pm
Alright Chase….it’s time to break out of your little 0-for you have right now. Might as well ring the bell while you are at it.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:03 pm
come on Utley!
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:03 pm
Lets see how Utley messes up this time against Kevin Gregg
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:04 pm
turner you are an asshole
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:04 pm
Haha ok Turner….I’ll trade him to you straight up for Fontenot and Jeff Baker. Your second basemen are real studs.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:06 pm
I wish that the Phillies could play the Cubs all the time…like Meatloaf said, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad. Actually, we own the NL Central… 14 wins against the SLOPPY NL Central.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:07 pm
I can’t handle this…..
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:08 pm
Alright no prob Gregg. Watch here for a Howard pop out, strikeout, groundout or flyout
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:08 pm
Oh man, bases loaded for Howard… nail-biter
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:09 pm
BIG FAILURE!!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:09 pm
oh well, at least Turner still sucks at life
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:09 pm
Gameday is slow, update me here
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:10 pm
howard is officially the opposite of clutch
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:10 pm
Ah crap….lay off that big man
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:11 pm
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:11 pm
Out of the garbage that Turner threw out…..
IBANEZ>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SORIANO
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:12 pm
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahah howard chases a 1-1 pitch out of the zone to ground out to Lee. Wow thats very clutch. Howard = Choker in big situations like in ASG with 2 outs and 2 men in scoring position he strikes out chasing one low. 3 more out for Cubs until victory and we don’t have to face Rollins, Victorino, Utley or Howard who all suck and take steriods and only went to ASG because ejected big @ss Charlie was the NL manager.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:14 pm
where are the admins when these trolls start this shit. slack ass cubbies fan with nothing better to do.
WFC’s –wrap your mind around that turner
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:15 pm
can we seriously make it so everyone has to register so we don’t have these stupid pointless trolls?
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:17 pm
Astros are better than the Cubs
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:17 pm
if they all suck, why are you so excited about not facing them? dumbass cubs fan
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:17 pm
it is never good to bring Lidge in situations like this.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:17 pm
Who’s got the ring Gollum
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:17 pm
Say bye-bye to your 10 game winning streak and your great pitching streak Phillie fans because that is about to end in just about say 15 minutes. Matters how cubs do in 9th. Reds and Stros up for us next. Pads and Cards for Phillies. wow brad lidge is a one year fluke. God Bless America and the Cubs!!! I’m gonna stick around till game ends to stick this big fat old L up your guys faces. Phillie fans were all trolls when they came on the cubs blog and sticking it up on Monday and yesterday. so get ready u ugly phillie fans . Cmon Kosuke
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:17 pm
NEWSFLASH:
the Cubs haven’t won in 100 years and have virtually no chance of winning anything in 2009… Cubs fans jumping from buildings all over the windy city.
You know, I actually like going to Cubs/Phils games because their fans are pretty cool (with the exception of Bootstraps Billy Turner the ass pirate here)… Wrigley is a place to party, much like CBP.
Turner’s a turd.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:18 pm
Cubs will never win a World Series. expect 4th place for them. they are just like the Mets, second best team in their own city
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Cubs won’t have fun with Reds and Astros. They are terrible!!!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Is Turner a Mets fan?
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Someone tell me the thought process of Lidge comng into a game down by 3?
We do play tomorrow. sometimes the old man jsut blows me away.
but he won a world series so he gets a pass.
I just dont understand hes NEVER good in these situations so it means 40 pitches or you go get him.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:20 pm
what’s up with Lidge this season? definitely not the same Lidge as last year.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:21 pm
i don’t know why the thought it was a good idea to bring Lidge in. He is so inconsistent.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:21 pm
These Cub fans on this site aren’t real Cubs fan because Cubs fans are usually nice.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:22 pm
Lidge?! Man, ERA over 7.00 now… can we have Bourne back? (just kidding…)
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:22 pm
Isnt the point of a series is to win it. I think we did 2-1. We would of won this one if not for Durbin and Moyer. The Cubs are going nowhere this year. Unless Alfonso gets back on the juice. He is a waste of space. Phillies just keep coming back which tells you how great they are. See you not in the playoffs Turner the homo. Phillies will be there but you wont. How many years has it been. 101 LOL
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:23 pm
Yeah…I think Turner IS a Mets troll…….sounds just as stupid as some of those idiots.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:23 pm
DON’T WORRY ABOUT TURNER
he is an idiot and lacks anything good
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:23 pm
Lets throw Lidge into the Halladay deal. Myers can be our closer when he (possibley) returns in mid August.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:24 pm
Lidge has lost his confidence and may never find it again.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:24 pm
no trading Lidge
just trade the Cubs troll for a pie
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:25 pm
Brad Lidge = hits a batter, walks a batter or gives up a hit to a batter. He is no longer a sure thing in the ninth.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:26 pm
why don’t we have it so we have to register to comment?
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:27 pm
Nice inning Lidge, now a comeback is looking REALLY difficult!
2 walks and a hit batsman in one inning? Ugh…
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:27 pm
I have officially migrated to the small “we need a new closer” Phillies fan group.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:27 pm
Why ????????????
Does rivera come into games like this?
This is circa 06-07 with the old man. When every night I would scratch my head.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:28 pm
i’m guessing the coaching staff was trying to be optimistic thinking the phillies will come back in the bottom of the 9th, but if it’s not a save situation why even use lidge?! it’s pretty simple.
they’ve used madson before in the 9th in situations like this and now all of a sudden they’re all about putting lidge in?? doesn’t make sense.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:28 pm
Well, two out of three aint bad. Howard had a chance to be the hero in the eighth, but it wouldn’t of mattered anyway because of crappy Lidge.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:29 pm
George Sherrill is being offered by the Orioles…..he’d look pretty good in pinstripes………
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:29 pm
I have Aramis Ramirez in fantasy and he cant leave lidge in to give up a bomb or a hit to him?
Now i am pissed!
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:29 pm
Werth walk, Dobbs single, Feliz double, Bako single, Bruntlett HR, Rollins triple, Victorino single
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:29 pm
It is a headscratcher why Lidge even pitched in this game… but that still doesn’t excuse his crappy outing.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:30 pm
It is the end of July and Lidge is still having problem. I am tired of the excuses. His ERA is continuing to climb. We need another closer.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:30 pm
Going to the bottom of the 9th inning Chicago leads the Phillies 10 – 5. In the bottom of the 9th for phils are Werth, Dobbs and Feliz. Bruntlett and Ruiz on the bench for Phillies. 3 more outs. Cmon Cubs lets end the 10 game win streak right here. Say bye bye Phillie fans to your win streak and sweep of the cubs. You losers need 5 runs with 3 outs to play with just to tie the game. Forget it. Howard is out of the game and Eric Bruntlett is in to play. so ruiz left for you guys on bench who you won’t need. well phillies had a 10 game win streak and the cubs put a 10 spot on them. Can’t find 11 anywhere folks.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:31 pm
Qualls and sherrill out there.
But will they demote lidge and if you do is he worth anything?
Its a touchy situation.
all these runs in non save situatons I do not count vs lidge. so I need to know the numbers in save only situations. Before i want qualls. Sherrill is bad.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:31 pm
Cubs will lose their winning streak in their next game, they’re not that good
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:31 pm
Watching Gameday, it says Lidge is throwing changeups. Is his slider not breaking or did he add a changeup?
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:31 pm
maybe now they’ll realize not to use lidge…wasted outing by him, he shouldn’t have even been put in
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:31 pm
i guess this just goes to show how spoiled we have become during this winning streak. dont get me wrong, im bummed about how this game is going to turn out, but we are still THE hottest team in baseball. the phils just need to forget about this one and keep playing like they have been
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:32 pm
I actually know who turner is. Whats going on man. I saw you this past weekend. Do you remember?
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:33 pm
BREAKING NEWS….Halladay just took a crap..
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:33 pm
We’ll give you this one Turner. You can pretend that it’s the seventh game of the WS, you loser. Now go away.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:34 pm
Theyre not going to demote Lidge, but we all know hes differnet in non-save situations.
Lidge is not going to get traded and probably cant be traded because of his monster contract regardless. Just forget it. Brett Myers will be used out of the bullpen if he comes back during the season.
This is just chalked up to Jamie Moyer sucking against good lineups.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:35 pm
I selectively read the psots here. Why would you comment on an idiot?
Although understand me commenting on your commenting on an idiot is also stupid.
I am out till tomorrow night or if the phils get Halladay.
Try to ignore idiots who add nothing and are just trying for a stupid responce.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:36 pm
well lidge is being used in non save situations alot lately.
Like the last 2 nights. Maybe he isnt the clsoer anymore.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:36 pm
we might suck but so do the Cubs
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:36 pm
What’s your point, Andrew?
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:37 pm
Hmm… who gets the Jeltz? I vote Durbin. 23 pitches without a single out is a special kind of suck.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:37 pm
Red Stars are better than the Cubs
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:37 pm
I’m sorry… did a cubs fan just come on here to talk trash? After the Phils took two out of three? Come on man I thought Cubby fans were better than that…
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:38 pm
Durbin, Moyer, or Utley for Jeltz

Red Stars are better than the Cubs and they are women
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:38 pm
so, is Hamels up tomorrow?
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:39 pm
yes
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:40 pm
Utley needs to sit down for a game…..seriously.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:41 pm
Very bad for Durbin and Lidge, Moyer wasn’t good at all but when the pen gets tired and you haven’t got the lead you have a responsibility to make sure you don’t have to turn the ball over to someone else in your inning.
Gonna be a lot more losses along the way, hopefully they’ll be a little cleaner than today’s…
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:41 pm
I think I’ll take the Jeltz award today since this is the first Phils game this season I haven’t been able to watch or listen to on the radio. Probably broke the winning streak by screwing up the karma. Don’t ask me why they lost the other 38 games…
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:42 pm
FINAL SCORE: CUBS 10 PHILLIES 5
W: Zambrano (7-4, 3.48)
L: Moyer (9-7, 5.65)
H: Guzman, A (9, 2.52)
S: Gregg (19, 3.15)
Chicago Cubs: 48-45, Win 1
Philadelphia Phillies: 53-39, Lose 1 – 10 Game Winning Streak is Over
Phillies take the series 2-1
Next time: 3 game series in Chicago
Next up: Phillies host Padres tomorrow for make up and then host Cardinals over weekend. Cubs have day off tomorrow and then host the Reds starting Friday.
Nice Series Phillies Fans! see you in chicago where I will be back on this post to laugh at you losers again. Philly will now go on a long losing streak while Cubs will go on a long winning streak. Phils will get swept at Wrigley. See ya losers later. and oh good luck against the Padres. wouldn’t be surprised if they beat you up and down. And do a favour for us by trying to beat the Cards. Take atleast 1 game from them.
GO CUBS!!!!!!!!!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:45 pm
expect the Cubs to go on a losing streak when they face the Reds and Astros
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:46 pm
sorry turner…. i cant hear you through the ring on my finger
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:46 pm
The great thing about Utley is that he will sit down and watch tapes and figure out what he may be doing wrong. I have faith that Chase just hit a slow patch. Moyer, Durbin and Lidge are really the weak links in the pitching rotation. Moyer kicks Marlins butts but isnt consistent, Durbin and Lidge…its all been said already. I think we need a closer and a power hitter off the bench. I dont think Holladay is what we need right now.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:48 pm
Moyer’s outing today just confirms what’s the obvious…..he really isn’t that effective unless he has a “friendly”umpire, which wasn’t the case today. It further confirms that we need that “other starter” to come in and shore up this rotation. Don’t get me wrong….I like Jamie Moyer. He’s a good guy. He’s pitched well at times. But it’s time for the Phillies to make a move with him. I’m sorry if I’m offending some of you here. I just don’t know how much more of Moyer I can stand to watch.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:55 pm
how bout moyer for adam eaton!!!!!!!!! lol
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:58 pm
Chuck- We dig it. Moyer has nine wins, but he has been the beneficiary of wild run support. I don’t know if you can do another year of that. Still, I can’t lay it all on the feet of Moyer. Chad Durbin has completely lost his nuts out there. It’s pathetic to watch.
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:05 pm
wow, cub fans are more insecure than met fans? i wouldn’t have guessed that, really… all that not winning in forever and insanely bad luck, to me, would seem to be humbling. What do i know though. As for Utley, these patches happen to the best, and he’s earned it… so did the team for today’s stinker. Not gonna win ‘em all, so take the beating and move on.
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:07 pm
bring on pedro!
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:08 pm
Durbin really stunk it up…..BIG TIME. I mean, we came back to close it to 5-3 and the game was starting to have that “happy” feel to it. Durbin ruined that really quick. Utley gets the Jeltz, which is justified, but Durbin had my vote.
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:15 pm
relax about durbin..the guy just pitched 3 innings and only had 1 day off and he needs more than that…yes he’s not the best pitcher but still he was obviously not well-rested and poor choice by the management for putting him in there in the first place – there were other options available. the bigger issue is lidge
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:25 pm
Tough break having Moyer up in a day game after a 13 inning night game. Bulll pen went from rested to spent in a 1.5 days. Would love to lock up Halladay, Lee or Duke, but if wee can’t get a Sherrill or Quall type. It’ll cost, but they’ll be on board for at least two years.
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:27 pm
The most disappointing aspect of the game for me was Lidge’s performance. Moyer will never pitch in the postseason for this team and Durbin has been overrused.
I was hoping that Lidge was turning a corner but now I’m not so sure.

July 22nd, 2009 at 5:30 pm
Utley played the worst I’ve ever seen him play..
Durbin is REALLY, REALLY bad this year.. maybe worse than Lidge, who would either walk me, or give up a hit if I was at the plate..
I don’t mind losing, but make the other team beat you, don’t beat yourself (unless you are really lonely)
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:37 pm
we will get roy hallday because we have a higher payroll the phillies dont got the sallary. the cubs will get him and thats all we need to win the world cerise so enjoy now losers
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:40 pm
Paul Hagen is a moron.
The Dipsy
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:42 pm
I was at the game last night and Utley looked pretty bad then, too. I really think he needs a day off.
I’m not sure who I would rather have on my staff right now….Durbin or Geoff Geary…
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:45 pm
Utley was only charged with one error .. but SHOULD have had the throw from Bako.. and later in the game, SHOULD have had the throw from Victorino
His at-bats got uglier as the game went along..
…
Anyone know why with Werth on 3rd, Dobbs on 1st .. down by 3 runs … we didn’t pinch-hit with Ibanez .. Dobbs would have shifted to third-base on defense, and Ibanez to left .. it seemed like a no-brainer to me
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:47 pm
I was thinking the same thing with the pinch-hitting scenario….a real head-scratcher.
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:48 pm
wait to the cubs got roy hallday
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:49 pm
So much hatred from one lonely, miserable little cubbie.
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:52 pm
Pirates have more World Series than the Cubs
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:52 pm
Combination of many things caused a poor overall team game from Phillies today starting with that extra inning game last night which required the use of a number of relief pitchers. Having to come back early next day to play day game with Jamie Moyer starting and having to face Carlos Zambrano did not exctly make things favorable for Phils. Home plate umpire “squeezed” the pitches of Moyer and Jamie had to start throwing the ball over the heart of the plate and it was all downhill from there. Just have to put this one in the rear view mirror and start out another winning streak anew tomorrow.
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:53 pm
so let me get this straight, not stressing the loss so much, but we’ll let Moyer face the Cubs ace and a line-up though under performing has the talent to pose an offensive threat and let our mercurial ace “needs that curve ball” Hamels pitch against the offensively anemic Padres. We shuffle the rotation to ensure Moyer plays the Marlins but why not when the match-up with team or Ump does favor him. I think the friday’s cancellation gave the staff extra rest so it seemed to me the perfect time to have Hamels vs. Zambrano and Moyer vs. “needs an aluminiun bat handicap” Padres…though the friars did pound us earlier this year but I think that hot, offensive start is more or less cooled and the Padres are well bottom feeders in the offensive stats columns. Could be wrong. Still think the management screwed the pooch on this…maybe they trying to set up a Hamels vs Carpenter showdown.
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:54 pm
Chicago Red Stars are better than the Cubs
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:54 pm
that’s “doesn’t favor him…”
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:55 pm
Red Stars have a better offense than the Cubs
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:56 pm
Moyer didn’t honestly pitch that bad… the hits against him were all bloops over the infielders.. some errors played a part..
The fact that we scored more runs, FIVE, then Moyer allowed, FOUR, takes the blame off of him in my opinion.. we want him to be better, but he wasn’t the reason we lost today
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:56 pm
Yankees are better than the Cubs

funniest picture!
July 22nd, 2009 at 6:02 pm
IF the bullpen (Durbin, Lidge) had done their jobs and IF the offense had (Utley, Howard in particular) had done theirs….this game might have had a different outcome…..and Moyer may have had his 10th win….or at least a no-decision. No….you can’t give Moyer the Jeltz today.
And why was Matt Stairs striking out looking for the second day in a row? THAT sort of pissed me off.
July 22nd, 2009 at 6:03 pm
I liked Cubs fans when I went to Chicago.. they seemed to like baseball
July 22nd, 2009 at 6:04 pm
Don M, you are right, the Phils didn’t lose because of Moyer, they lost because of the Catcher who couldn’t call a good game to safe his wife and kids lives, he is trash and whoever voted Chase for the Steve Jeltz award needs to rethink that cause Bako is junk, he was the starting catcher Saturday night until the rains came thank you baseball gods for that night, Charlie might as well, face this fact Chooch needs to be the one behind the dish Bako, can’t call a good game!!!!!!!!!!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 6:10 pm
Bako didn’t walk anyone.. Durbin did ..
Bako didn’t misplay three very catchable throws, or strikeout 3 times… Utley did..
Blaming a loss on Paul Bako is about as bad as the people who complain that Bruntlett doesn’t hit HRs … Bako was fine behind the plate.. but its really tough to frame pitches for strikes when Durbin and Lidge don’t throw it anywhere close to the zone
July 22nd, 2009 at 6:12 pm
Nasty Cub: What do Cubs Fans and your wife have in common? Neither has been satisfied in a long, long time!
July 22nd, 2009 at 6:14 pm
And….Paul Bako was the starting catcher for a day game following a night game…fairly standard strategy.

Redsoxs made another trade (traded Julio Lugo to the Cards for Chris Duncan)
July 22nd, 2009 at 6:27 pm
I pray that the Cubhos’ make the playoffs and the Phillies meet them in the NLCS. The Cubs will go up 3-0 and stupid Cubs fans will start paying insane prices for WS tickets and outrageous prices for hotel rooms. They ‘ll even starting going over to Boston early. Then the Phils will win 4 straight and Redsox fans will laugh you all the way back to Chi-Town!
July 22nd, 2009 at 6:36 pm
Cubs will prolly come in 3rd or 4th in their division (Cardinals are better and I think the Astros are too)
July 22nd, 2009 at 6:43 pm
It was all a dream…… The Cubbies are softer than shaving cream.
July 22nd, 2009 at 6:53 pm
The Philadelphia Phillies are America’s new Team…. Ok that’s all I got.
July 22nd, 2009 at 10:50 pm
Don M, Bako was the one laying down the signs to Durbin to throw, and Monday Night Chooch was laying them down and Chad looked like frigging Walter Johnson, or Cy Young out there on the mound so you tell me who is better at calling a game and knowing what to throw at hitters, The Catcher is the on-field general in Baseball, he is involed in every play directly or indirectly, you need a good game caller in order to win in the last 11 games Chooch is 10-0 and Paul Bako is 0-1 hell in the last 15 Chooch is 13-0 and Paul Bako is 0-2 excluding the game from this past Saturday Night which he started behind the dish and they were losing 2-0 to the Marlins before the rain out
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:31 am
dude I defend Ruiz probably more than anyone on here.. I love the game he calls, and steadily say how Marson isn’t ready to take his place..
but Bako calling for a pitch has nothing to do with Durbin walking guys… I’m 100% positive that Bako wasn’t giving him the sign for THROW A BALL, and then repeating that sign over and over
Bako caught Blanton on July 10th, when the Phillies won 3-2 … the two runs were on bad pitches, one each by Blanton and Lidge both HRs
(That game when Blanton went into the 8th.. and the totals for the game with all pitchers include 6 hits, 1, walk, 8 Strikeouts)
Bako also caught the extra-innings on Tuesday night.. taking Chan Ho Park for 3 innings, and Condrey for 1 innings… combined gave up ZERO hits, ZERO walks, and 5 Strikeouts ..
