Gameday: Mets (39-39) at Phillies (39-37)
Posted by Amanda Orr, Fri, July 03, 2009 05:45 PM
New York Mets (39-39) at Philadelphia Phillies (39-37)
Livan Hernandez (5-3, 4.04 ERA) vs. Rodrigo Lopez (5-4, 3.91 ERA in AAA)
Time: 7:05 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Partly Cloudy, 80
TV:Comcast Sporstnet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
Tonight, the rivalry is renewed in a big series for both teams. The Phillies look to turn around their struggles and stay in first place in the National League East. The Mets are only one game out, and they could find themselves in first if the Phillies continue to struggle at home.
Rogrigo Lopez will start against the Mets. With the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, Lopez has been inconsistent in his last ten starts. He has only given up one earned run his the last 14 innings he has pitched, however it has been a pattern that after he has success, he struggles in his next start. On the plus side, he has not walked many batters or given up many home runs. In his Major League career, Lopez is 65-65 with a 4.80 ERA.
Hernandez is 10-8 with a 3.36 in 24 career starts against the Phillies. At Citizens Bank Park, Hernandez is 2-2 with a 5.45 ERA. Chase Utley is 8-for-24 in his career against Hernandez. Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard each have homered off Hernandez twice in their careers.

I feel a turn around for this series for the Phillies, will be there tomorrow from Vermont for the game, It is time to turn the season around right here and right now I feel it in my bones
Go PHILLIES
July 3rd, 2009 at 6:04 pm
To be honest, Mets are gonna sweep the Phillies. The Phillies are a fluke team. Cole Hamels is overrated. Jimmy Rollins is also overrated. Raul Ibanez will turn back to sucking when he returns. You phillies are scared of Mets so that why you bring in a triple A pitcher to face because all your pitchers are terrible. Fluke. Go Mets (favourite team) and Marlins (place where I live).
Forecasting Note: BREAKING NEWS: Charlie Manuel fired on July 26th. Sam Perlozzo takes over as manager for now. Rollins demands trade along with Hamels. Brad Lidge traded to Braves for Rafeal Soriano/Mike Gonzalez. Phillies fan boo team off again. Phillies finish 84-78, 5 back of wild card. Depression intact for Chase Utley.
July 3rd, 2009 at 6:16 pm
wow the mets fans are so many down here at the game,
July 3rd, 2009 at 6:21 pm
JackS:
I agree with the first part
Your forecast? Not so much. Except how they finish.
GOOOOO!!! METSSSSS!!!
Oh and shag beta sigma delta:
I hear Vermont is beautiful this time of year. You should save yourself the trip. The Phils will get swept. That feeling in your bones is a deep chill.
July 3rd, 2009 at 6:24 pm
Lenny Dykstra liked being a Phillie more than being a Met!
July 3rd, 2009 at 6:31 pm
Ok so I hope MOyer does well tomorrow…tonight – I hope Lopez just doesnt get smoked out of the building…not like the Mets SP is great either outside of Santana
July 3rd, 2009 at 6:38 pm
Geoff
You are correct. They’re not great. Their borderline okay. But…one thing they are is much better than the Phillies pitching staff. That’s all that matters for this series.
July 3rd, 2009 at 6:55 pm
go Phillies!
July 3rd, 2009 at 6:59 pm
oh and apparently we designated Taschner for assignment
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:00 pm
Hope my Mets will be 1st place on NL east after this weekend. Lets go mets
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:03 pm
yep great news to cheer everyone up before the game. Jack taschner designated for assignment. Great start to the night now let’s go phils!!!!
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:06 pm
Taschner sort of kind of sucked…
check your email Georgie…
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:08 pm
Ooo… I think I like this new guy.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:09 pm
It would be awesome if Lopez came in here and gave us 7 solid innings…the Phils are in such bad need of that.
I have faith that the Phillies will turn things around with a series win vs the Mets.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:11 pm
Nice quick first for the new kid on the block.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:11 pm
Is Lopez Philipino? He kinda has that look about him, but I didn’t think there were any Philipinos in baseball.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:13 pm
WOO HOO!!! I think Rollins is out of his slump!
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:14 pm

Rodrigo Lopez is from Mexico.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:17 pm
Wow… this is the best start we’ve seen in a while… although I’m flashing back to that awful game with 4 runs in the first inning and a 10-4 loss…
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:17 pm
Yeah but the Rays can hit.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:18 pm
Ah, thanks Ed!
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:19 pm

July 3rd, 2009 at 7:19 pm

Way to be patient Howard
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:20 pm
now bases loaded no outs, sitting here at work waiting to leave for my drive down to Phila. hope this guy can hold a lead nice start though
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:20 pm
Lopez reminded me of my cousin’s wife, who is Philipino. (not the chick thing; just the Philipino thing)
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:21 pm
I was beginning to think you worked 24/7, shag!
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:21 pm
and levan cant find the plate come Jayson just a fly ball would be nice here
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:22 pm
S’okay. We’ve got two more chances to get those baserunners home.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:22 pm
K
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:22 pm
Almost but work is a strong word for what I do, i am here alot but work about 50/50
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:23 pm
They’ve definitely learned how to work the pitcher. What’s his count now? I’m having trouble getting Gameday today.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:24 pm
come on Dobbs on time I always had faith in you a fly ball please
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:24 pm
YES!!!
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:25 pm
OK, Pedro is another guy who has been slumping… Maybe this will inspire him…
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:26 pm
where are the mets trolls now?
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:26 pm
you guys still suck
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:26 pm
I love the blue dot in play run(s) on MLB.com when the phillies are at bat nice scoring from second by Utley on a fly ball, Dobbs has been hitting pretty well lately don’t you all think since he has gotten playing time
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:26 pm
my utley score
– hope he score on me
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:27 pm
Bako again??? Seriously, who does he have blackmail photos of?
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:27 pm
nice Pete Happy walks
Man I just notice Bako in again I just do not get it, but I have faith he will get a run in here cause he wants it soooo bad
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:28 pm
some of these called strikes are out of the zone on MLB.co
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:28 pm
The radio is giving the pitch count — 27 already!
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:29 pm
BAKO!!! haha
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:29 pm
30 now on MLB.com either way this is a decent ab for Bako
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:30 pm

July 3rd, 2009 at 7:30 pm
Go Phils tonight!!!!! Looking ahead, how will the Phil’s hitters and pitchers (cole Hamels) fair next week? Check out:http://www.fantasybaseball101.com/2009/07/03/h2h-corner-back-to-the-future-next-week%E2%80%99s-h2h-preview-3/
Also, for a run down of the hottest of hot players and coldest of cold from the last week, check out the Katy Perry All-stars — our boys Rollins and Cole Hamles made the cut!!!!

July 3rd, 2009 at 7:31 pm
If he just stands there he may get a walk
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:31 pm
hope my mets score some run
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:32 pm
Could have been worse…you guys should have gotten at least 4
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:32 pm
to be honest why do you guys have bako on the roster?!!! your management is dumb. Wow, you guys had bases loaded no outs and Werth strikes out. Bases loaded and 1 out, bako strikes out. only 3 runs. mets will come back. sheff, church, tatis up now. time to score some runs baby
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:33 pm
Bako and Bruntlett need to not be on a major league roster.
somehow they always come up with bases loaded or in a clutch time.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:34 pm
Aw… that wasn’t the *real* Ben Franklin! Anybody heard how he’s doing? He had a stroke recently.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:34 pm
Livan Hernandez sucks. Why is he still a major league pitcher?
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:34 pm
as of now, atl and was tied at 3. pitt leading fla 4-0
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:35 pm
yea one out from that power trio you just mentioned
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:35 pm
BEAUTIFUL!
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:35 pm
Are you kidding me?
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:36 pm
it hit the fn ground…gifts for you guys
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:36 pm
two down form that power trio, man Lopez only 17 pitches not bad hope he can keep this up
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:36 pm
that was b.s.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:37 pm
dam there goes the no hitter ok Lopez settle in and get one more now please
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:37 pm
(Ralph Archbold, the “real” Ben Franklin, is recovering from his stroke, but not doing any appearances this weekend)
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:38 pm
Lopez shows the ball for too long, Mets havent picked up on it yet.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:38 pm
nice two innings 21 pitches keep it up Lopez you may be able to stay in the show for awhile if you can keep it up. nice job n ow lets score 3 more
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:38 pm
Umm lets see:
2009 season:
Mets Starter Hernandez: 5-3, 4.28ERA, OPP AVG is .291
Phillies best pitcher/ace Hamels: 4-5, 4.98ERA, OPP AVG is .312
One our of low (ok) pitchers is better than your ace wow Geoff! I’m start to wonder why is hamels so OVERRATED and would hernandez be an ace on phillies pitching staff?
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:39 pm
Trade Roll had a nice first at bat.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:39 pm
church got rub – stupid call from 3rd base
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:40 pm
ok so the trolls think that line drive hit the ground did it, any rational people watching the game
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:40 pm
Ah well. But at least JRoll took three pitches. It’s an improvement.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:40 pm
Um, sure pal. If the Phillies had Livan Hernandez in the postseason last year THEY WOULDNT HAVE WON THE WORLD SERIES!
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:41 pm
@Shag: Looked like he got it to me, but they only showed it once. WHOA!! VICTORINO!!!
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Ryan Church is not a CF…
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:41 pm
it did hit the ground
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:41 pm
A gift for you phills and a hit is nice to start somethin. mets will get going next time around for everyone. its because no one has seen lopez in a long time but because he shows the ball alot, the second time around will be disaster for lopez and the philies.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:42 pm
If you think he cought that you are retarded Shag
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:42 pm
line drive better than pop out for JRoll, I know i am grasping, but he had some hard hits last night, maybe he is starting to show up
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:42 pm
Look at him run… FLYIN’ HAWAIIAN!
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:42 pm
no shit geoff hahah
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:42 pm
JackS any particular reason you are here picking verbal fights with people when you know they are going to defend their team as you would yours? Is there a point to it? Sad attempts at humor? Jealousy perhaps? It feels like 5th grade when you make fun of someone but deep down inside you really like them. Hamels is having a bad first half no way around out. But he is the World Series MVP…pretty sure Hernandez or anyone else on the Mets staff can’t lay claim to that. You have to get to the World Series to have a shot at the MVP…you have to make the playoffs to have a shot at the World Series…see where I am going with this?
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:42 pm
that was actually a good hit by jimmy though…im impressed
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:43 pm
@Baseballfan: Shag doesn’t have video.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:43 pm
nice Vic triple lets keep in going
and shiterino I was asking the question to rational people not trolls
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:44 pm
hey geoff, hamels is a one year wonder and fluke. Hernandez has produced and been consistent his whole career. Wouldn’t be talking if i were you geoff.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:44 pm
@Ed: I read somewhere that the Internet was created so that people who couldn’t intimidate the smallest kid on the special bus would have someplace where they could be a badass. Perhaps that sheds some light.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:44 pm
Actually Ed, Hernandez does have a World Series MVP,ahah
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:44 pm
ok Chase way to get the run in you are the man
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:44 pm
As for me, I’ve got the badass squelch on high tonight. It makes for a much more pleasant chat.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:45 pm
And Jack, He was there World Series MVP, who cres if he was a fluke. He won them a world series.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:46 pm
wow, sure utley got the rbi , but he chased a 3-0 pitch into a flyout. wow howard out on first pitch. cmon mets lets beat em up
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:46 pm
I wouldnt call Hamels a one year wonder…even when hes struggling Id still rather trot him out there than everyone of the mets starters minus Santana.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:46 pm
Actually baseballfan no he doesn’t. He was the ALCS MVP in 1999. Not the World Series MVP. Nice try though.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:47 pm
ok back to semi work, nice to get one more run, I will take one run an inning and line drives outs even though I can not see them sound better then pop outs, and doesnt the middle relief for mets suck so we should be ok if Lopez can keep the mets down to 2 or 3 runs
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:47 pm
That 3-0 pitch was a STRIKE DOWN THE MIDDLE. He swung at it to DRIVE IN A RUN.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:47 pm
Makes sense Tracey. But if someone is going to come to this board, or any and say anything, I hope they atleast have their stats right. Must not be much of a baseballfan when you have no idea what you are talking about.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:48 pm
Livan Hernandez sucks – he is showing his true color now . That’s why other teams don’t want him
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:48 pm
Baseball fan I was asking a question you troll in here sound so stupid most of the time I can not trust you
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:50 pm
Clearly Jack is not impressed by small ball. Utly did what he had to do,good move.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:50 pm
Very confusing to have both of the managers with the same last name…
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:50 pm
Honestly, Hernandez is not that bad he is just prone to having a bad inning here or there. Can pretty much say the same thing about every Phillies starter minus Happ right now.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:50 pm
Is anyone else glad the Cubs are struggling? I HATE that team. Its all d!ckheads with a King D!ckhead manager and they spend money like the Yankees.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:50 pm
If you dumb phillies fans didn’t know: 152 wins, 1653 strikeouts, world series champion, 2 time all star, NLCS MVP, World Series MVP, 3x league leader in innings pitched, 2x league leader in complete games, Silver Slugger Award, 11 errors in his career- All these have been achieved by Hernandez. Hernandez was also young (22) when he won the WS with the Marlins who were in their INAGURAL season. He led the team to a WS win in their first year of existance. Boo Yah
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:51 pm
No, I just did not think your post needed a response that was thought out and researched.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:51 pm
Lopez just got away with a meatball
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:52 pm
Rollins is a lot cleaner in the field tonight than he’s been lately too.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:53 pm
Another clean inning for Lopez. I’m definitely liking the new guy…
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:53 pm
its only a matter of time mets are smoking the ball of this chump
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Actua;;y I take back my last comment. He did win one Ed. You must feel like a jackass for calling me out.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Marlins started in 1993 you jackass. Not 97.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:55 pm
Your actually LYING! HAHA.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_Marlins
They were established in 1993. Livan DOES have the 1997 WS MVP.
http://www.baseball-almanac.com/awards/aw_mvpw.shtml
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:55 pm
ed r trust me either you don’t follow baseball too well or you have just start following baseball. hernandez won the WS and the WS MVP in 1997. And from 1996-2007 hernandez played in the NL. he played in the al for only 4 months for the twins in 2007.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:55 pm
WERTH HOME RUN!!!
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:55 pm
Home Run JAYSON WERTH!
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:56 pm

July 3rd, 2009 at 7:56 pm
nice ball park lol what a little league field
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:56 pm
I stand corrected, Livan did in fact win a World Series MVP. My mistake.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:56 pm
http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/player.php?p=hernali01
Actually he has had a great career, he just sucks over the past few years.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:57 pm
I think you lost your privalge for calling people out Ed. Especially to me.hah
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:57 pm
I am going to rant now since i walk away and even though he got out of the inning how do you walk the #8 hitter with a 4 run lead,
OK I got that off my chest
Nice job through three Lopez not being able to see you you are doing fine by me, 3 innings one hit and what 35 pitches
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:57 pm
damn it. cmon mets. we’ve rallied before from 5,6,7 runs down
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:57 pm
My goodness – Phillies all fire up – hit and aother hit never stop. mets do look like tripple-A team now
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:58 pm
You maybe but JackS.
“He led the team to a WS win in their first year of existance. Boo Yah”
Not so much.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:59 pm
Yea LuLo, Im not too confident about this game right now. The Phillies are in a groove this game. Clean swing after clean swing.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:59 pm
at the game tomorrow 4:10pm. 4th of July!!! Hopefully mets rally tonight, win tomorrow, and sweep sunday.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:59 pm
Bako sucks…I cant believe he just stroked a double there
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:00 pm
a little late but nice JOB Jayson got one more run makes up a little for the K in the first you are hitting well lately
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:00 pm
Im going tomorrow, still have extra ticket, Moyer vs Nieve. Nieve sucks. Moyer sucks. But Moyer is due for a passable outing.
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:01 pm
(sigh) Bako. Whose idea was that?
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:01 pm
nice job Peter Happy, and even Bako is hitting this guy nice job Phillies
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:02 pm
wow…the Mets look like a mess – noone covering second. Meatball down the middle for Trade Roll to drive in tow runs.
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:02 pm
OK, Phils, save a couple of runs for the rest of the weekend….
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:02 pm
come on JRoll shut these met trolls up for tonight
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:03 pm
Can not watch anymore- I rather find a guy for date and F me
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:03 pm
JRoll is on fire nice job kid hope this is a sign of things to come
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:04 pm
Come on Geoff, I know he has been terrible for three months but he is better last two games give him some credit and stop with the Trade Roll that is just rude
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:05 pm
Geoff umm
Nieve: 3-1, 2.25ERA
Moyer: 6-6, 6.06ERA
Just because Moyer sucks, doesn’t mean Nieve sucks
Get the facts right
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:07 pm
Nieve sucks…he was released by the Astros…he has pitched well but he still sucks. Theres a difference between sucking but performing well for the time being and actually being good.
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:07 pm
jack its obvious geoff doesnt know much about anyone else but the Phillies
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:08 pm
Yea Tracey need those roll over runs like I suggested a few weeks back
I hope Lopez can keep this lead and take the game at least into the 7th, getting ahead of myself come on Lopez get us out of the 4th please with the 7 run lead in tact I know you can
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:08 pm
Gone for tonight

Moyer is gonna toss homer balls
Nieve is gonna shut you down
Not as a fan, but as a human being happy 4th of july folks
Go Mets
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:08 pm
Yea Tracey need those roll over runs like I suggested a few weeks back
I hope Lopez can keep this lead and take the game at least into the 7th, getting ahead of myself come on Lopez get us out of the 4th please with the 7 run lead in tact I know you can nice K
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:09 pm
hey man, I watch MLB tonight every night Im up with the info…just because you dont agree with it doesnt mean it isnt there or real
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:09 pm
Why is it no surprise that in-spite of the Phils kicking ass and Lopez putting up goose eggs so far that Geoff’s go-to lines are about how Moyer sucks and how we should trade Jimmy…
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:10 pm
that is ok give up a single an inning and then a DP or just two more outs with him standing on first
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:10 pm
Church is 2 for 2
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:11 pm
ok two hits settle down Lopez we are behind you you can do this I would be cheering the loudest you will hear me tomorrow 417 row 5
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:12 pm
This game is not over. With Rodrigo pitching. Luckily for Phillies fans the Mets are the biggest bunch of losers in sports. Amateur or professional/ Male or female sports / team or individual sports included.
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:13 pm
ok nice out there Lopez one more please
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:14 pm

July 3rd, 2009 at 8:19 pm
Well, Ryan’s getting a lot more patient, taking his walks.
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:21 pm
shiterino, church is two for two that is just great, he should be in the HOF, how many runs have you scored
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:22 pm
Wow… pulling the starter in less than 4? That’s a Phillies move!
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:22 pm
Mitsch was released by a few teams. What a dog dirt terrible performance from Hernandez. Im glad the Phillies jumped him early.
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:23 pm
think it is time to go to the pen levan can not find the plate nice eye Jayson OK Peter Make me Happy get the run in from third is all I am asking which is really not much
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Sorry my fault bad fan bad fan I meant Dobbs
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Believe me, Phillies fans – this Mets team you’re witnessing tonight is the real New York Mets ball club without Reyes, Delgado, Beltran, Putz, etc. I’m glad that I didn’t make the trip out to Philadelphia for the weekend I feel badly for those Mets fans in attendance tonight- simply put, it must be embarrassing.
Nonetheless, it’s still July – thank goodness!
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:25 pm
Geoff where has he played do you know
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:25 pm
The radio just made a good point: how do you go to the plate with a pitcher you’ve never seen before and swing at the first pitch?
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:26 pm
unfortunately theyre going to allow Bako to hit here…
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:27 pm
@Geoff: it’s only the 4th inning, they’re certainly not going to take out the catcher yet. But they shouldn’t have played Bako in the first place.
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:28 pm
David you need to talk to the other mets fans in here because you are 1 of only 2 that speak intelligently and have a clue
Dam Dobbs I was singing your praises earlier oh well better now than if we were in a tight game at that moment Now it is Bako time lol
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:29 pm
It’s not nice to call people a loser. They just didn’t pitch n play well
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:30 pm
that is too bad would have been nice to score some runs there, but like I said it would hurt worse in a tight game I have faith that this will not be one, but you never know, we need Lopez to get through 5 unscathed (is that even a word)
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:31 pm
(FYI: The Florida game is in play again, and they’re losing 4-0)
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:32 pm
not bad 60 pitches into the 5th inning for Lopez nice job so far just get three outs and move to the 6th
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:33 pm
ok way to K the pitcher now one more out and lets move on
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:33 pm
I like the way you’re calling this game, Shag!
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:35 pm
nice blue dot in play OUT(s) is the best thing when the Mets are up 67 pitches through 5 good real good so far what 3 hits 3 k’s nice so far let’s get a couple more this inning and then move to the 6th
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:36 pm
why would you take your back-up catcher out of game he’s spot starting when your 7 runs up? Makes no tactical sense
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:39 pm
i wish they would have left hernandez in so the phillies would have crushed him even more!! 7 runs is still good enough though!
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:43 pm
I’m Chutly
JackS
look at the scoreboard
& yes the Phillies are still the WORLD PH**** CHAMPS!!
laugh it up troll 1 and troll2
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:51 pm
86 pitches through six and thanks Tracey, had to go upstairs for a while, I was going to come back and be sarcastic and say the following
UH-OH two innings with out a run and JRoll didn’t get a hit they are slumping all over again, where is Geoff tell ing how bad this team is,
I crack myself up
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:54 pm
Howard and Lopez only two phillies with a hit, and Ryan has walked twice so that is good enough, make them throw pitches you can hit, even though he is hitless tonight, I like his approach, and up 7-0 you can get agressive
by the Tracey do you get to many games,
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:54 pm
sbd- not only was it two innings without a run and J-Roll didn’t get a hit but Bako’s still in the game, we still have Bruntlett on the roster and we haven’t traded for two elite starting pitchers since the game began… Panic mode necessary!
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:54 pm
I was outside taking my frustrations out on the weeds, had the game on the radio, and I heard Franzke going nuts, wow, unbelievable!
Going to catch up on comments now.
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:56 pm
NJ you need to calm down I am not saying they do not need pitching help but Lopez is throwing a fine game so far, and they last few games their at bats up and down the line up have been better so be a little positive please
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:57 pm
ok Lopez settle down again and get an out please you are the man tonight
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:59 pm
Tch, no shutout. But still a hell of a performance from Lopez.
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:59 pm
not a bad performance tonight..first run allowed after 6.1 innings..
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:00 pm
FYI: On the replay, that was very clearly bounced off the wall in front of the fence.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:01 pm
sbs- the above was meant to echo your post with sarcasm. I’m in the minority that think the Phils have enough on the roster/in the system to do as well as their going to do this year.
Great game, Lopez has surely earned himself another start, credit to the guy.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:03 pm
OK, Lopez is sweating and Chan Ho is warming up. Maybe it’s time for a little relief? Yeah, here comes Chollie.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:03 pm
what was the on field delay no one got hurt did they,
It is ok Lopez settle down one run is ok,
He is up to 97 pitches though do you think you bring in Madson tonight in the 8th to get some confidence back
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:03 pm
Look at that standing O for Lopez. He’s earned it.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:04 pm
outstanding performance from a journeyman like that…
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:04 pm
Our anemic offense and lack of good starting pitching is becoming an ominous problem. Mind you, the Phillies are about to knock the Mets back under .500, guys. The Mets are a sub .500 ball club! THAT’S a telling statistic!
The best news of the evening is that Church is hitting the ball the other way well and Pat Misch pitched very well tonight – maybe Jerry should have had the perspicacity to put him in instead of Livan tonight. Hah!
At least we won’t get shut out tonight by a guy who hasn’t pitched in the Major’s since 2007. Then again, he could be the Phillies’ Fernando Nieve, no?
I’m curious to see if the Mets have the drive to fight back, regardless of their five run deficit.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:04 pm
@Shag: he gave up a second run. a ball down the 3rd base line that got some fan interference (GRD)
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:05 pm
I want to start a fan club: Chan Ho’s Hos.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:06 pm
Although: did everybody catch early in the game, Rodrigo’s Amigos? hehehe.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:06 pm
maybe it is time now to make a move not sure but do you think it will be park we may need him tomorrow for moyer why not Durbin or JC here
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:08 pm
Nice job Lopez now Chan who pick him up here and get out of the inning
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:08 pm
(Marlins are still down 4-0 in the 7th)
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Sergio needs work…
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:09 pm
nice K one more out please
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:10 pm
NICE cleanup from Chan Ho!
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:10 pm
All in all a good trip up from AAA for Lopez, it was nice to see that, I have faith the pen can hold this one
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:11 pm
Park will probably take the 8th too. escalona the 9th assuming no other runs score from the mets….Park has settled into his role well.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:12 pm
very nice Chan HO, two K’s
You know he has pitched well out of the Pen his first appreace was dreadful but he has come back and done the job night in and out, I ask again do we see the Mad dog in this game to try and right his ship and Lidge has not pitched in a while either, any comments on that
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:14 pm
Geoff, got it, thanks.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:15 pm
has every pitcher we called up to spot start from AAA pitched a good game his first time out, Carpenter did, Bastardo did, now Lopez am I missing something
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:15 pm
“Hi. My name is Omar Minaya and I am getting paid to stay home and pray that Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, Oliver Perez, J.J. Putz, and Billy Wagner all return soon and excel on field right away. Likely, I also hope that the Phillies, Marlins, and Braves continue to struggle, even though I know that such a scenario is not likely. I won’t see aid via trade or signing as I firmly believe, with the help of (fill in your god) that my Mets will somehow make it through!”
My ACCURATE assessment of Omar’s thought process is both grotesque and short-sighted. Forget the Mets’ payroll limits – if you want to win, you must pay what you have to pay. The Mets need a temporary bat until their core players return – if they do!
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:16 pm
if we finish this one off does Lopez get the Asburn tomorrow
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:17 pm
Hats off to Lopez on a great return to the bigs. Since they announced he was pitching I have had nothing but bad things to say. But he really turned in a great performance tonight.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:17 pm
ok georgie…so whats the word on that?
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:20 pm
Greg V.,
I won’t take Lopez’s efficient outing and disparage it, but let me ask you this: although we’re speculating here, would Lopez have done as well as he did tonight if he had to face Reyes, Beltran, and Delgado in that lineup? I think that a large part of Lopez’s success is due to the weak lineup that he faced. Regardless, a win is a win and Lopez gets the credit for it – and rightfully so.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:20 pm
I’d give Lopez the Ashburn but I have to tell you, Jimmy Rollins got some nice hits in today.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:22 pm
Minaya treats the Mets like grocery shopping, he gets the big items but forgets the basic day-to-day essentials as well as the dirty stuff no-one likes, but knows you need…
Credit to Amaro for learning early to address those needs…
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:24 pm
Pujols hit ANOTHER grand slam…
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:26 pm
the mets have a few grinders but not enough workman guys. they could really have used a guy like david eckstein…
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:28 pm
Come on…they need this win….
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:28 pm
phew….nice work from Park…what an improvement he has shown since accepting his role.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:31 pm
I am back, let’s go mets. I took my MidolPM so I cannot stay long. We will sweep the series.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:31 pm

July 3rd, 2009 at 9:33 pm
nj – nice assesment of minaya
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:33 pm
That is what it is for? I thought it was for my genital herpes
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:34 pm
I lost MLB.com trying to get it back Park load the bases or something I saw he was batting in the 8th
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:35 pm
Mets are still going to come back as will the marlins. you all will be in fourth place in about two weeks.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:35 pm
Hee hee! Shane was a little late to notice that nobody was playing the dropped ball!
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:35 pm
vintage
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:36 pm
Leave it to Murphy, he will also come back and be rookie of the year – watch. Omar should be a HoF GM as should Beltran be a HoF. You have many other in the HoF like Schmidt who Beltran is much better than
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:36 pm
Jack you are still saying that man you have a lot of faith in your offense you need 27 outs so this game is not over, so for as much of an idiot you are I like your positive thinking
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:38 pm
beltran is much better than Schmidt…haha. when he hits 500 HR I will give him credit – but hes a very good player.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:38 pm
Madson will come in and choke it up – he is the real choke artist
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:39 pm
What are you going to say next? Ollie Perez is better than Pete Alexander (who is better than almost every single active starting pitcher)?
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:39 pm
I was wondering where that 8th run came from, but it was just an error by the score person, fixed now.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:39 pm
Man jacks you just keep spuing shit in here to get a reaction, it really is not even funny anymore can we not find a way to ban guys like that annoying
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:40 pm
He has over 300 now and he is young
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:40 pm
OK: Time for 3 quick outs.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:40 pm
Ollie will be fine and a 20 game winnner
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:41 pm
Why is Madson coming in? I hope a 5 run lead is good enough for him!
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:42 pm
who is pitching for the phillies in the 9th is it Madson or Lidge or is charlie giving them the night off, JC maybe, or will it be Escolana i know I just butchered his name
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Told you, you told me I was full of crap
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Man, he makes me nervous…
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:42 pm
WHEN HE HITS 500 he will get respect in THAT category – right now hes in teh class of the “very good”
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Heeeeere come the Mets
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:43 pm
come on Mad dog get your mind back no pressure just throw strikes not over the middle of the plate, and send us home happy please we all know you have it in you start being your dominate self here thank you
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:44 pm
Lucky – pure luck not talent
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:44 pm
NJ, howdoes Amaro get props for addressing the needs omar doesn’t. Isn’t he the new G.M. with how the Phillies are playing. I would say they need something extra that may have been forgotten.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:44 pm
what a catch!
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:44 pm

July 3rd, 2009 at 9:50 pm
Phillies win
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:51 pm
Nieve is a career minor leaguer but has had some success recently because nobody knows him that well.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:51 pm
Nieve is awesome and will dominate. He is unbeatable
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:51 pm
madson actually used his changeup and got the strike out!!!….guess he finally realized not to throw a fastball for strike 3

Shut up Eli you Met turd. Your team is a joke.
July 3rd, 2009 at 10:04 pm

Lets go mets tomorrow. Kick some phillies ass tomorrow.
July 3rd, 2009 at 10:19 pm
Eli, JackS and I are going for a circle jerk now
July 3rd, 2009 at 10:24 pm
