Gameday: Mets (39-40) at Phillies (40-37)

Posted by Amanda Orr, Sat, July 04, 2009 02:45 PM

New York Mets (39-40) at Philadelphia Phillies (40-37)

Fernando Nieve (3-1, 2.25 ERA) vs. Jamie Moyer (6-6, 6.05 ERA)

Time: 4:05 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Partly Cloudy, 75
TV: FOX
Twitter: Phillies Nation

There will be early fireworks today. The Phillies and Mets square off for the middle game of the series.

Nieve is coming off a rough start against the Milwaukee Brewers where he allowed three runs in 3.1 innings. Nieve has never started against the Phillies, but pitched 1.1 innings in relief against them. He gave up five earned runs in those five appearances, all coming last season.

Jamie Moyer is 7-5 with a 3.66 ERA in his career against the Mets. This year, the Mets have roughed Moyer up in three starts. He has given up 15 earned runs in 14 innings. Mets’ hitters are batting .393 against him this season.

The Phillies have the same lineup as last night, which means Greg Dobbs will be starting in left and Paul Bako will catch for the second straight day.

Your Gameday Beer: Happy Independence Day, Americans! Today’s beer is Amber Waves Amber Lager. This brew is from the Red Star Brewery and Grill just outside of Pittsburgh. It’s a tasty Amber that makes for easy drinking. It’s not a particularly delicious beer, nor one that is widely available, but it does fit the occasion in honoring our great land. Drink it outside with whatever you’re grilling. -By Brian

Happy Fourth of July and Go Phillies!

  1. The Dipsy Says:

Why is freakin’ Bako starting again? Good god.

    The Dipsy

  2. Mike Says:

How is Bako in the majors. He is aweful.

  3. Greg V. Says:

No Stout’s American Pale Ale for beer of the day? Shame!

Yeah why is Bako starting again? They must be riding that double he hit yesterday!

  4. The Dipsy Says:

I think they’re slapping Chooch down a little bit because he’s slumping big time.

    The Dipsy

  5. Julian Says:

Ruiz must be hurt. I rather have Marson than Bako…

  6. NJ Says:

750 games in the majors and has earned his way back onto a major league roster this year… Just awful… Sure the guy isn’t Mike Piazza but give him his dues. If he’s actually playing a few games can’t hurt and you don’t know what’s going on inside the clubhouse that might be the reason he’s playing.

  7. NJ Says:

^And every single Phillies an would rather Marson than Bako but the point is Marson still needs development and Bako is a major league veteran who can still handle the stick.

  8. 4daysrest.com Says:

This Paul Bako experiment needs to end. We were okay with Carlos Ruiz batting .250 over the years because he handles the pitchers well.

I don’t need that average to drop another 20 points with Bako behind the plate, no matter how good he is at handling pitchers. He hit an RBI double last night – great – I don’t care.

Get this fucking guy out of town and bring in somebody that can be a legitimate threat off the bench. He’s wasting a roster spot.

  9. Julian Says:

I understand but Marson is on a hot streak and this team needs a spark.

“Bako is a major league veteran who can still handle the stick.”

    awkward….

  10. The Dipsy Says:

I think that, while Bako may be an experienced major leaguer and a lefty catcher at that, if he is on YOUR major league roster than that is a sign that you’re not quite where you wanna be as far as team composition.

    The Dipsy

  11. baseball fan Says:

You thought I wuold go away, but now that Eli and I spent all night circle jerking, we are ready to root for the mets. LET’S GO METS… SWEEP the rest

  12. mikemike Says:

What more development does marson need, He is a good catcher, who is a contact hitter, ruiz hits about three homeruns a year , marson can do that with better obp, by the way wang just got hurt and pulled from game. or he was traded not sure.

  13. Chase Says:

Does anyone know where i can listen to the game online?

  14. Tracey Says:

It seems to be broken at the time, and they’re giving “bonus coverage” of another game on TV. Yuck.

  15. Tracey Says:

(the online radio is broken, I mean)

  16. Tracey Says:

I heard “home run” and I thought the Mets had gotten a home run off Moyer already! Whew!

  17. phillyjoe Says:

I dont care about Manny. Thats rediculous that they cut out of the game for one at bat

  18. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Chase – Only on XM or MLB.com premium

  19. Tracey Says:

Yeah, I was annoyed enough when the squeezed the Phils down to a tiny picture, but when the entire Phillies-Mets game disappeared so they could show Ramirez run around the bases…

  20. Tracey Says:

OK, quick out for Jimmy, but at least he took 4 pitches.

  21. Tracey Says:

@MP: Gameday Audio ($15 a year) is supposed to have it, and had the first couple of pitches, but they’re having technical difficulties.

  22. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

This is the first time in 20 years McCarver has made sense.

  23. Tracey Says:

Let me see if I’ve got this straight: they’re criticizing the adulation of Manny… while they cover a quarter of the screen with his picture? While they ignore the live game to talk about Manny?

  24. Chase Says:

    Thanks Tracey, MP

  25. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Luckily I have XM to turn on when Manny comes up

  26. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

McCarver did not choose to do it, and he clearly does not like it. He will be spanked on the commercial

  27. Tracey Says:

Wish Gameday Audio was working. It’s working for WFAN (the Mets station) but not WPHT. I don’t know why; there was a notice about technical difficulties earlier, now it’s just silence. I may have to (gasp) get my radio. YAY RYAN!!!

  28. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Where are the mets fans talking about unbeatable this guy is?

  29. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

last night they were all here talking about sweeping, and how great Livan and Nieve were

  30. Tracey Says:

Whee! Phils get first blood! They’ve finally learned to play small-ball!

  31. Chase Says:

    All right Jayson

  32. Mike Says:

1-0 you pathetic loser ahole met fans.

  33. Georgie Says:

I had to leave the room, couldn’t take any more Manny talk, seriously.

  34. Tracey Says:

Hey, you can’t beat Philly on the 4th of July! It would be unpatriotic! :D

  35. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Watch, Jamie will give up a run and they all will come talking abuot the old man. Such wusses

  36. taco bell Says:

26 pitches for the taco bell pitcher. keep bringing them in taco bell general manager. or taco bell manager. god it keeps going on and on…

  37. Tracey Says:

    OLD GUYS RULE!!!

  38. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    Go Jamie, keep it up!

  39. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

You know, I have really grown to dislike a lot of Mets fans over time from these rivalries. Met one in SC here yesterday wearing my Lidge shirt. He had his little Reyes jersey on. Asked him how it was working out for him.

  40. Tracey Says:

    Feliz!

  41. Julian Says:

How come the Phils havent signed any international free agents?

  42. Tracey Says:

We’ve got Ruiz. We’ve got Coste. Why are we carrying this loser Bako?

  43. Tracey Says:

For the record: I typed that *BEFORE* he batted into that double play.

  44. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Bako is doing fine… Besides, it is all good, turns the lineup over!

  45. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    uh-huh

  46. NJ Says:

BTW we have signed a couple of promising international free agents, chcek the GCL Phillies additions

  47. Tracey Says:

Yo, announcers, can you pay the SLIGHTEST FREAKING ATTENTION to the game in front of you? I’m sitting here thinking, “but… nobody hit a grand slam last night. Pujols? Why are we talking about Pujols? He’s not in this game!”

  48. Tracey Says:

OK, that’s enough, I’d rather have NO audio than chit-chat about players who aren’t even in this game!

  49. DJ Says:

    Good throw Jimmy!

  50. Tracey Says:

Ah, the baseball gods have had mercy on me… the Phillies audio online has started working!

  51. DJ Says:

Is anyone else wondering why everyone is paying so much attention to Manny Ramirez? Why is he being cheered soo much and highlighted by the same media that crushed Bonds, Mcguire and Clemens

  52. Tracey Says:

Woo hoo! Patience pays for Jimmy!

  53. DJ Says:

Good patience Jimmy! He might be out of his slump!

  54. Tracey Says:

@DJ: Perhaps because he has paid his debt to society? … Nah….

  55. Tracey Says:

hehehe. The Phillies audio online is a couple of seconds ahead of the TV tonight.

  56. DJ Says:

The practice has worked for VIC! now 5 for 7 baby! Double steal please!

  57. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Ok guys, we got a game with the Mets today. And that only means one thing. Bad news for the Mets!

  58. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

DJ – Now , who wants to step up and think Jimmy needs to be traded other than Mikemike?

  59. j reed Says:

tracy- prince albert has hit 4 grandslams in 8 tries and leads the league in hrs [31] and and rbis [82] while batting over .300. All this without the line-up protection. Also he is a gold glove first basemen. he’s hands down the best player in both leagues.

  60. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

I like Coste, but GET BACK TO THE GAME

  61. DJ Says:

    WTF! what just happened

  62. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Great broadcast going on here today.

  63. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Fox is screwing the pooch on this one

  64. DJ Says:

@ Tracey- Just mikemike bat him down if he slumps again but you can’t trade Jimmy

  65. j reed Says:

    yeas nats beat the braves

  66. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    That was me

  67. Morris Buttermaker Says:

This is still better than listening to Wheels and the Sarge.

  68. Tracey Says:

@J: Yeah, I get that. That’s something to talk about in the pre-game show, or the MLB tonight show, or whatever. Not in the middle of an ongoing ball game. That little almost-DP that they entirely failed to show is a perfect example of the fiasco Fox is making of this broadcast. Worst I’ve seen since the not-Mayberry-Sr. flub.

  69. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Morris – I like Sarge now

  70. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Sucks, it is always the struggling person, whether it be Jimmy, Dobbs, etc. who comes up when the bases are loaded

  71. DJ Says:

Dobbs everyone was working this guy why swing at the first pitch?

  72. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Where is mikemike to talk about who we can get for Dobbs? LOL

All of the Met a-hole fans are gone, the pessimistic phillie phans are gone, what a great day at PN

  73. j reed Says:

are you kidding me dobbs! twice a first pitch swing with the bases loaded. I don’t care if you have to put in Brunt. that crap deserves a benching.

  74. DJ Says:

@ Tracey- That Mayberry flub was funny especially when that guy got the call that he was on tv and plus he was wearing a Panama cap and jersey

  75. Tracey Says:

    rats… end of moyer’s no-hitter

  76. Jeff Says:

Dobbs is horrible. BREAKING NEWS. STEVE AIR MCCNAIR
    FOUND DEAD.

  77. DJ Says:

    Great job Utley!!

  78. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    Take THAT Met fans

  79. j reed Says:

m.p.- i think dobbs has been hitting well except for these 2 blunders

  80. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Who is MccNair? Anyway, what a great day at PN

  81. j reed Says:

if moyer had a no-no, i’d have a heart attack

  82. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

j reed, he has struggled of late, but it is due largely to his not hitting regularily I think. Charlie is doing the rigth thing though.

  83. Tracey Says:

@dj: I like the part where he gets the phone call from somebody telling him he’s been identified on TV as Mayberry’s dad, and he’s saying “WTF?” and the Fox idiots think he’s having trouble with his phone reception.

  84. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

No n-no possible, he has some base runnners; only a not hitter possible

  85. DJ Says:

@ Jeff- I thought you were lying? Thats sad!

  86. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    XM time!

  87. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    Who is this McNair?

  88. Tracey Says:

Oh good grief… well, at least they’re between innings now.

  89. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    Game is back, Feiz up

  90. DJ Says:

@ Tracey- Yea and he was there with his little girl and then they had to rescind it. Atleast they get credit for that.

  91. Tracey Says:

And the Phillies is the small picture on the right. FOX: YOU SUCK!

  92. j reed Says:

okay, you can talk about other players , maybe cutaway to a replay, but cutting to manny abs is uncalled for

  93. Tracey Says:

    FELIZ!!

  94. DJ Says:

Mcnair used to be the Titans and Ravens quarterback. He was only 36 and just retired from the NFL last year! Great QB

  95. Tracey Says:

(he got a hit, in case the pic is too small for you to see)

  96. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Maybe Manny will get thrown out so we can enjoy the game

  97. DJ Says:

    Toss Manny

  98. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Can Bako NOT hit into a DP?

  99. Georgie Says:

See, this is why I can’t stand Fox coverage, this is just ridiculous.

  100. Tracey Says:

Perhaps Manny will fail another drug test and we won’t have to see this crap for a long time. :D

  101. j reed Says:

its not like the WS winners against their division rivals are playing today

  102. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Very nice. Very, very nice. Noy Moyer bunts and Jimmy comes up

  103. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

I would rather see A-Roid than Manny

  104. DJ Says:

Runners on every inning now its time to make them pay

  105. DJ Says:

    great bunt Moyer!

  106. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Now let’s see what Jimmy can do. Double, triple, HR? He needs to just relax and slap at the ball and put it in play.

  107. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    Just like that

  108. Tracey Says:

OH YES!!!! Kiss that slump goodbye!

  109. DJ Says:

    Yeaa Jimmy!!! HEEE’s Back!

  110. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Where is mikemike and the Mets fans?

  111. Tracey Says:

LA says, “As Rollins goes, so goes this ball club.” How true.

  112. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Tracey, I would love to hear LA and Franske LOL

  113. NJ Says:

Just nice solid baseball from the bottom of the order to get that going…

  114. DJ Says:

Oh Yea Game 5 repeat of the World Series on tomorrow MLBN @ 930 am. Game 3 was on today

  115. j reed Says:

mp-in the last 10 games Dobbs has 7 hits and 4 rbis….that’s not to shabby esp. for a bench player

  116. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Oh and who wants to fire Thompson? I was so angry the other day I almost stopped coming. Between the pompous met fans and people like mikemike I had had-it…

  117. DJ Says:

@ MP- How bout Geoff too who has been pulling to get rid of Jimmy for Donald

  118. Jeff Says:

70 pitches for this mutt. see the team goes as jimmy goes.

  119. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

j reed – I take that back then, I thought he was slumping. I was not unhappy with him, just thoguht he was slumping.

  120. Tracey Says:

@MP: $15 a year for Gameday Audio. No, I do not get a commission.

  121. NJ Says:

can we get some more Bako and Moyer hate going… These guys just aren’t giving the team anything are they…?

  122. Andrew Says:

Are the mets idiots here today?
I know that we suck but nobidy sucks as med as the NY mess
Leave then to get us healthy.

We may lose 90 games but reast assured the Mess would lose 91

  123. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

DJ – I expect it from Geoff, he is consistent. Whether they win or lose he wants to upgrade. Geoff is negative a lot, but I do not knock him because he is consistent and he makes sense, even if we don’t agree (which I don’t a lot).

  124. Tracey Says:

    @MP: Thompson?

  125. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Tracey – go back and read that BS. People on this blog wanted to fire Milt Thompson for the lack of hitting.

  126. Tracey Says:

    OH BABY!!! What a play!

  127. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    Nice. Throw out Church.

  128. DJ Says:

What a great throw by Feliz!!!

  129. Tracey Says:

@MP: Ah, well, you know how it is: Phillies fans eat their own young.

  130. DJ Says:

Whats Moyers pitch count? only 2 hits in almost 5 innings

  131. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

This banter on the politics makes me laugh. I may not be the biggest supporter of Obama, but I still would meet him if I was in that position. How people put ideology before anything else is amazing to me.

  132. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Nothing you can do about those…

  133. Tracey Says:

OK, Jamie, settle down. The pitcher can be the third out.

  134. Tracey Says:

    Aw, crap. No more shutout.

  135. DJ Says:

Damn it why cant ever get the pitcher out?

  136. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Oh well, still 3-1, just attack Cora

  137. NJ Says:

Can I just say how thrilled I am about Ryan Howard this year. That play coming off the bag says so much about how he’s improved his all-around game so much…

  138. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Crap, forgot it is castillo not cora

  139. Tracey Says:

@MJ re politics: Yeah, people get nuts. Have you ever seen Alan Sepinwall’s TV blog? Every time he talked about Tina Fey’s Palin impersonations, the blog comments got *UGLY* on both sides of the political spectrum.

  140. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

NJ – I am proud of Howard. His 3 errors were dumb, but clumped and he did so much to improve.

  141. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    Heart stopped for a second

  142. Tracey Says:

YES! We’re out of that inning!

  143. DJ Says:

    Great play Utley

  144. DJ Says:

@NJ- Yes Howard has improved alot and is legitmately the second best 1st baseman probably in the league!

  145. Tracey Says:

It’s a big difference in Howard this year. You don’t hear all the snide remarks about him anymore. Yeah, his batting average could be better, and he’s got a lot of strikeouts, but nobody is questioning his worth any more.

  146. DJ Says:

    Man just missed it

  147. Tracey Says:

Now he flies out instead of strikes out. :) And you can’t say too much when he’s got a 400 ft fly out.

  148. Andrew Says:

    Mccarver sucks

Just so it doesnt seem like I say everyone sucks

Mark grace is a great announcer. I also enjoy the Giants (SF) announcers.
I dont really like vin Scully
    Oh the sacrilege !

  149. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    XM Time again

  150. Tracey Says:

Chase: Stop chasing the bowling balls!

  151. DJ Says:

@ Andrew- I agree with you but add Joe Buck because he is Cowboy bias and just seem to not like Philly teams!

  152. Tracey Says:

Oh good grief. Can somebody hit Manny with a bus or somethin?

  153. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

How can anyone not like Vin Scully. He and Bob Euker are the best left in the business.

Mark Grace and Darron Sutton are excellent too, and his pop, Don Sutton is good. I like listening to the D-Backs and if I ever owned a MLB team, I’d hire Mark Grace as his style of baseball is what the Phillies need.

  154. Tracey Says:

    Oops. Mets got a hit.

  155. Tracey Says:

Very similar to the one that was an out before, past Moyer to Utley.

  156. Steve Says:

WHY am I watching the Phils in a tiny side screen? I used to watch a steroid user all the time in Philadelphia, his name was David Bell.

  157. Tracey Says:

LA is commenting on the Manny coverage. “I mean… so what? He got suspended for [steroids?] They didn’t show his at bats before.”

  158. joedad Says:

This is ridiculous with them switching to the Dodgers game. I turned off the tv and will listen to the Phils on the radio. I am boycotting fox for a while

  159. Tracey Says:

(the Philly radio is not pleased that Fox is showing Manny instead of Phillies)

  160. DJ Says:

Feliz is on his A Game defensively today!

  161. j reed Says:

mp-i don’t think Thompson should be fired but taken out to the woodshed…yes. The odds of a team with our offensive talent having a team wide, month long batting slump in consecutive years during the same time intervals are astronomical….At that point, yes you are within reason to question the batting coach. Esp. when you see 3 consecutive rookies pitchers who throw a steady diet of curveballs and your team looks like they need to spend time in AAA with the other players who can’t hit the big league curve. When I see Dobbs first pitch swinging with the bases loaded twice it is reasonable to suspect that he’s not aware of any wrong doing. Shouldn’t the teachable aspects of the game, like strategy, be covered by the coaches?

  162. Tracey Says:

Wow, Moyer has only 84 pitches. Will they play him in the 7th, or let him catch the last van back to the old folks home?

  163. DJ Says:

That should be Manny’s last at-bat! Torre said he can’t go 9 yet so hopefully Pierre will come in and that will be the end of the Manny watch

  164. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

I was hoping an ejection for Manny

  165. Tracey Says:

If Bako gets out, they should leave Moyer in. I think he’s still got some pitching in him. If Bako gets on… we could use the extra run.

  166. Tracey Says:

FYI: Gameday shows Bako swung at three balls, *WAY* out of the strike zone (the fourth pitch was down the middle, though)

  167. Tracey Says:

Oops… sorry, didn’t swing at them.

  168. Tracey Says:

    WTF???

  169. Tracey Says:

It looks like a bit of fan interference: somebody shouted at him!

  170. DJ Says:

HAHAHAHA thats funny! Fans help Bako

  171. Georgie Says:

    hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

  172. Tracey Says:

Oh good grief. Are we going to watch every Manny fielding play too???

  173. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Well, no Mets fans here today to say how great their team is. What a great PN day

  174. Tracey Says:

Hmn… some Mets fans are being escorted out from that vicinity, according to the radio….

  175. Tracey Says:

Re the dropped foul: LA made a joke about “maybe someone in the stands said ‘I got it’” Then they showed the replay, and you could clearly see someone in the stands shouting, and the guy looked at him when he missed the ball.

  176. j reed Says:

mlb agents are laughing all the way to bank with this pitch count crap

  177. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Very nice, get rid of all Mets fans

  178. DJ Says:

a double and 2 walks today for Jimmy!

  179. Tracey Says:

@J: Yeah, I’m old enough to remember when a game had two pitchers: a starter and a reliever.

  180. Tracey Says:

Tug McGraw was not a “closer,” he was a relief pitcher.

  181. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Yes – and the pen was for the FUBAR pitchers, not specialists. I am 32, but I hate the way that has evolved

  182. j reed Says:

    vintage mets

  183. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

The closer era and relief pitcher era are two different eras.

    Nice catches buttheads

  184. DJ Says:

Wright now Santos! Hmm not the Triple A players there

  185. Tracey Says:

    We’re overdue for a home run…

  186. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    Love the Mets playing now

  187. Tracey Says:

Oh good grief… Bako almost made a *REALLY* bad move there.

  188. DJ Says:

WHOOAHH! Vic is on fire this Series! And Bako whew you got lucky!

  189. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Mets fans, where did you go to defend your team?

  190. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    Utley needs a HR badly

  191. Tracey Says:

He had plenty of time to get home, even if the throw was online, and he stopped in the middle of the baseline. He would have been out if the throw was on target.

  192. Tracey Says:

Aw… but we got a run.

  193. mets88 Says:

u guys kidding me celebrating that your beating a bunch of bums. phillies should have a 10 game lead they have a full team this isnt the real series the real series will be in september when we have the major league mets then talk then.

  194. Tracey Says:

    That was an interesting play!

  195. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

metss88 at least had the courage to show. Still though, no promise your bums will improve.

  196. DJ Says:

    Good teams overcome injuries!

  197. Tracey Says:

And not exactly a “full team” with Ibanez and Myers out of action.

  198. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Didn’t you have the major league Mets the past two Septembers?

  199. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Oh, and your bums beat a lot of teams, so are they really bums? I think you all are just getting beat by a better, but slumping team.

  200. NJ Says:

BIG tip of the hat to Jamie

  201. Jeff Says:

shut up mets88. you slime come in here each week to tell us how you will sweep us. go away.

  202. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Also, mets88, the last two Septembers when you HAD your real team, how did that work out for you? And when it DID work out for you, how did you fare with Molina – OH YEAH, Beltran struck out with the bases loaded. hmmmmmmm

  203. mets88 Says:

no promise but for the philly fans to be saying where are the mets fan now and all that. i mean come on do you know baseball. Look at the disgrace that we call our lineup. i have a journeymen backup infielder playing everyday ss, a rf playing cf, a bench player playing first and a 40 year old playing right. come on be happy your taking care of slop dont act like its a challenge to beat the mets.

  204. Tracey Says:

Yeah, how many weeks ago was it that Eli told us that the Mets would be in the lead by Sunday? Not this Sunday, anyway.

  205. Jeff Says:

plus we have no ibanez, we lost our number 2 starter. our bullpen has been injured this year. so shut up boy.

  206. Morris Buttermaker Says:

I love the major league Mets that show up each September. I love how tight they get and then choke. It is a great show to watch.

  207. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Yeah, I will believe the Mets in first when I see it. Just like I will believe it when it is us, the Braves or the Fish. No one who knows baseball can really say their team is the best. So go away.

  208. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Let’s see, before Beltran striing out, how did the 2000 World Series work out too?

  209. mets88 Says:

listen if you didnt think u were a better team this weekend going in then that shows wut u think of your team. and good teams overcome injuries? really? yea 1 maybe 2 and dont bring up myers hes awful being sent down last year as a i recall.

  210. Morris Buttermaker Says:

My favorite non-Phillie baseball moment last year was the Mets losing the final game at Shea to the Brewers, allowing the Brewers to get the Wild Card the Mets get eliminated. And then they have the closing ceremony for the stadium right after the Mets blew a last week of the season lead for the 2nd straight year.

  211. Tracey Says:

Oh, when the abuse and the spelling get that bad, it’s time to turn up the a$$hole squelch…

  212. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Hmmmm, seems Met fans have not had a great time since 1986… Let’s see, 1988 they lost, lost in 2000, lost in 2006, choked in 2007 or 2008. Hold the most losses in a season by a MLB team in 1962. Gee other than 1969 and 1986 it is no wonder Met fans are so frustrated. If I were a Met fan, I would consider converting to the Yankees a real NY team.

  213. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Myers went down VOLUNTARILY and came back 7-2. Sooooo, your point?

  214. Morris Buttermaker Says:

So how did all of the injuries to Beltran, Reyes and Delgado prevent Wright from making that catch in foul territory?

  215. Tracey Says:

Why did they take Moyer out? He was doing fine, had less than 100 pitches.

  216. mets88 Says:

im going to sign off and ill see you in september when the major league mets play the phillies for that 4 game set. ill come back on then. no promises no guarentees im a realistic met fan. but i can promise it will be a level playing field.

  217. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Morris, hey the foul terrority plays weren’t they regulars i.e. Santos and Wright? Hmmmmm

  218. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    Yeah come back then

  219. NJ Says:

They took Moyer out after getting out the lefty with a RH batter up

  220. Tracey Says:

@Morris: Ah, well, that sorta looked like somebody distracted him.

  221. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

OH and you are a true Mets fan, I have respect that you showed today. hard to do.

  222. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Maybe Wright thought he gets to claim a do-over since he was distracted by the fans.

  223. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Wow, how frustrated I am. I need therapy as I am an angry man LOL

  224. Tracey Says:

@NJ: And brought in Durbin who… um… hit the second batter with a pitch? Sorry, but this lefty-righty thing is nonsense.

  225. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Yeah, he can have a mulligan

  226. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

At least madson has a 3-run cusion

  227. Tracey Says:

    Mayberry is in! Awesome!

  228. Tracey Says:

    Madson? (shudder)

  229. Tracey Says:

YES! Feliz has his two-out mojo back!

  230. Tracey Says:

    grr… bako…

  231. Tracey Says:

MLB milestone tracker predicts that Moyer will get his 253rd win on 7/18. I think he may beat that. hehehe.

  232. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

between Romero and Madson, they can damage this

  233. Tracey Says:

    True, true.

  234. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Shhhhhh, Romero (Mr. Bases on Balls) and Mr. Madson (Mr. pitching Slump) are coming. Let’s just hope and pray.

  235. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    Crap

  236. Tracey Says:

Oh good grief. Can we get us a reliever who can throw more than 10 pitches?

  237. Morris Buttermaker Says:

It’s time to get back on board and start believing in this team. I’m getting tired of being negative. It is so much more fun to be positive.

  238. Tracey Says:

    happy thoughts … happy thoughts…

  239. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Anybody know if the All-star game is coming up soon? I feel like I have barely heard anything about it recently.

  240. Tracey Says:

Is that the official radar gun guy behind and to the right of the plate, or is that just the world’s biggest geek?

  241. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    Ugh

  242. Tracey Says:

Next week, Morris. But yes, it does seem to be under-advertised.

  243. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    Heart pounding

  244. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Manny will be starting in it

  245. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    WHEW

Now we have to gain a few for Lidge, just in case his knee hurts

  246. Tracey Says:

It does look like the offical radar guy. He talks into a mike after every pitch. Not that I’m complaining; I’d rather see him than some loser on a cell phone calling everybody he knows to say he’s on TV and wave at them.

  247. Morris Buttermaker Says:

Maybe Fox should just spend an entire broadcast of a game talking about the all star game instead of covering the game at all.

  248. Tracey Says:

(er… “next week” being not the week that starts tomorrow, but the week after that. Lost track of the day of the week what with Friday off)

  249. Tracey Says:

Oh, are they talking about it a lot? I hadn’t noticed — I’ve got the radio audio on.

  250. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    Tracey, it hasn’t been mentioned

  251. Tracey Says:

They mentioned on the radio that voting is still open.

  252. Tracey Says:

Ah… a little more insurance would have been nice, but Lidge should be able to nail this down.

  253. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

    1 out

  254. Tracey Says:

    one down, two to go!

  255. DJ Says:

    Lidge and the full beard?

  256. Tracey Says:

LA: “Could everything be falling back into place?”

  257. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

We shall see. Remember when Lidge came off the DL last year he was perfect.

  258. NJ Says:

Lidge has got that bite back to his stuff

  259. Tracey Says:

    Two down…

  260. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

And I am a huge Lidge phan, so you can see my #54. I am such a dork.

  261. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Tracey, let’s hope. Braves lost to the Nats, Mutts may lose, Fish play later. Motivation is losing first.

  262. Tracey Says:

LA: “This is exactly what Lidge looked like last year.”

  263. Tracey Says:

Actually, Fish are leading 2-0 in the 4th (they started at 6)

  264. DJ Says:

Great Job Lidge! He looks better!

  265. Tracey Says:

YES!!! PHILS WIN!!! PHILS WIN THE SERIES AGAINST THE METS!!! Can we sweep tomorrow? Is that too much to ask for?

  266. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

Where are all of the Phillie Phans who said we’d be swept? Met fans?

  267. Tracey Says:

Must go feed cats now. They are very antsy, because they normally get fed at 6…

  268. NJ Says:

So thrilled with tonight’s game. Just a well rounded game by everyone in a Phillies uniform which is something thats been lacking between big win nights and sour losses.

  269. Winks Tiddley Says:

As a Phils fan, nothing feels better than to tear off the Mets’ heads and crap down their necks. They are pathetic and so are their crappy, arrogant and impotent fans. Mets fans are the bottom of the barrel.

  270. j reed Says:

man i had to go…didn’t see the last inning…was lidge “lights out” or was he “load ‘em up” give us a heart attack lidge

  271. DJ Says:

@ J Reed- He was lights out 3 up 3 down and 2 were strike outs! He looked way more confident

  272. nk Says:

lidge was seriously awesome tonight – i only got to see the 9th inning and he looked really really good – thankfully

how did jimmy do today?? any hits??

  273. DJ Says:

Jimmy was 1 for 3 a double, 2 rbi’s and 2 walks! he was really solid

  274. mets rule Says:

    we need tommorrow

  275. Joe Says:

    this just in;
    METS SUCK,METS SUCK,METS SUCK!!!

  276. M.P. aka A.J. #54 Says:

mets rule – yeah especially with Johan, he is going through smoe rough times. Oh well, GO PHILLIES

  277. Mike N Says:

Best part of this win was seeing Lidge get back to his dominant self! He got ahead in counts by throwing 95 MPH fastballs for strikes and then getting strikeouts with the slider. That’s the Lidge we know and love!
