Gameday: Phillies (39-35) At Braves (36-40)
Posted by Amanda Orr, Wed, July 01, 2009 05:45 PM
Philadelphia Phillies (39-35) at Atlanta Braves (36-40)
Cole Hamels (4-4, 4.44 ERA) vs Jair Jurrjens (5-6, 2.93 ERA)
Time: 7:00 p.m at Turner Field
Weather: Partly Cloudy, 93
TV: Comcast Sportsnet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
Cole Hamels looks to rebound from a rough outing against the Blue Jays. He hasn’t been consistent and right now would be the perfect time for him to get on a roll. In 12 career starts against the Atlanta Braves, Hamels is 7-3 with a 3.42 ERA.
The 23 year old, Jair Jurrjens has avoided the sophomore slump. His win-loss record is deceiving as he hasn’t always received run support from his teammates. In April, Jurrjens earned the win in 5.2 innings against the Phillies.
After an 0-for-5 night, Charlie Manuel says not to worry about Rollins. He said his timing was off and that “he’ll be OK.” Rollins needs to turn around his struggles, along with Ryan Madson. In his last six appearances he is 0-2 with a 9.53 ERA (six earned runs in 5.2 innings). He has also blown three games in that span.
The lineup will look a little different with Greg Dobbs starting his second straight game in left field and Paul Bako getting the start.
Yo
ur Gameday Beer:The Miller-owned Leinenkugel Brewing Company from Wisconsin serves up today’s beer, Classic Amber Lager. This thick and creamy beer reminds you of Killians Red or even Guinness but has a much maltier taste. The overall taste is average, not too strong so you can pound a few. It is also available in a Light variety so you can pound even more. Have some Latin American food like roasted pork and fried plantains with this one. -By Brian
Go Phillies!

what the hell is this infatuation with this Paul Bako, I truly hope he rips the cover off the ball tonight and goes 5-5 with a HR,
But I would still say the same thing, I get Ruiz needs to take some games off, but he IS the STARTING CATCHER on this team, he is going to have a week off soon enough, let the guy play. I really just do not get it. While I am on the subject Charlie, who I like as a manager, pinch hits for Ruiz too often too early, I concede the 9th inning maybe even the 8th once in a while. Sometimes it just makes me soooo mad,
On the other had I do like Dobbs over Mayberry in left, sacrifice a little D and speed, but Dobbs has put together a few good at bats of late, I like to see him get more chances until Raul gets back.
JRoll will get a hit tonight and maybe two.
You heard it from the shagmaster first don’t you forget it
July 1st, 2009 at 6:02 pm
let’s go Phils!
July 1st, 2009 at 6:26 pm
Its like my friend says this division is pathetic. He is a Mets fan. The Phillies are not winning it all this year. I wish it was different but it wont be. Ibanez is hurt. Howard is a complete over paid waste. When is the last homer. Rollins has gone down the toliet. I know everyone gets mad but I think steroids has something to do with it. 30 homers…Ruiz and Feliz have come back down to earth. Lidge and Madson are horrible. Werth is streaky at best. Our pitching staff is horrible. They bring up guys like kendrick and lopez. please. it will get worse. I feel sorry for Utely. To bad we cant clone him.
July 1st, 2009 at 6:29 pm
Shag, during recent interleague play, Coste was DH and Ruiz caught several games without a break. Plus Manuel is playing lefty-righty percentages with Bako inserted as LH hitter vs righthander Jurrjens.
July 1st, 2009 at 6:36 pm
yea I get the lefty righty thing, but sometimes I think Charlie over thinks that, I am just venting,
But Mike does need to pass what ever he is smoking this way,
Howard had a two run double the other night, and actually hit a single to right field the other night, I think he is working on that to maybe get them out of that dam shift which by the sucks.
And didn’t Pete Happy have 2 or three hits last night one a home run.
I am not saying that the phillies are going to win it all again, but they are still the best team in a bad division, which will get them into the playoffs and maybe they can get on a roll.
July 1st, 2009 at 6:41 pm
Mike…so much negativity from you. In reading your gloom and doom posts, one might think the Phillies are in last place. Geez!
July 1st, 2009 at 6:52 pm
can we trade Mike and Cairo?
July 1st, 2009 at 7:00 pm
At least Geoff, and Dipsy, have some idea what they are talking about most of the team with some logic, I may disagree most of the time with their logic, but Mike is a closeted Mets fan sad that they will come in 4th this year in a bad division
July 1st, 2009 at 7:02 pm
So I think needs to dominate tonight, I think he will, but tonight if we can only score one run then he needs to shut these guys out.
Hopefully his blow up in the last game lite a fire under the guy, and moving him around in the rotation to get more starts will give him that confidence he needs.
did both the mets and marlins win today I believe they did so we do need this game bad.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:03 pm
pretty sparce in here tonight, hump day blues or what. Some one anyone chime in fell free
July 1st, 2009 at 7:05 pm
Mike you are going to say the stupid crap and bale, where are my friends at tonight, bored at work again, and that dam extra innings kept me up later than usual even with watching on DVR was close to 1 am and I had to play golf at 8:50 am this morning.
I know I lead a rough life
July 1st, 2009 at 7:09 pm

July 1st, 2009 at 7:10 pm

July 1st, 2009 at 7:11 pm
ugh, Jurgens on the mound…I hope our low batting IQ doesn’t kill us
July 1st, 2009 at 7:11 pm
Ok I will try this
I heard that they are going to trade Rollins and JA Happ for the guy from pittsburgh and move Utley to short and Play Coste at second base, and bring up Donald after the all star break
July 1st, 2009 at 7:11 pm
poor Rollins
July 1st, 2009 at 7:11 pm
Hey! Jimmy took four pitches before he got out! Let’s hope he can keep that up.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:12 pm

July 1st, 2009 at 7:12 pm

July 1st, 2009 at 7:12 pm

July 1st, 2009 at 7:12 pm

July 1st, 2009 at 7:13 pm

July 1st, 2009 at 7:14 pm
Since Buttermaker hasn’t been here lately, I’ll use his line: Phillies v. Braves tonight, and you know what that means… BAD NEWS for the Braves!
July 1st, 2009 at 7:14 pm
you are just kidding me right Tracey
July 1st, 2009 at 7:14 pm
I said something before u said that though
July 1st, 2009 at 7:14 pm
I concur with the Leinenkugel Classic Amber, I picked up a case for $14. It was qite a deal. Looks like I am going to need a few tonight.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:15 pm
dam blue dot in play out(s) I hate that, lol
July 1st, 2009 at 7:15 pm
I thought Coste was our backup catcher. What’s the deal with Bako all of the sudden?
July 1st, 2009 at 7:15 pm
I’m hungry for some Phillies runs.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:16 pm
I must be fed with some Phillies runs. Feed me with homeruns by Howard and Bako.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:16 pm
Thanks tracey, I have not been able to get on early recently.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:17 pm
Yea I asked that earlier, I guess charlie is going all lefty tonight against the right handed pitcher, giving Ruiz a break,
July 1st, 2009 at 7:17 pm
yea what is howard batting???exactly
July 1st, 2009 at 7:17 pm
that wasn’t a fun first inning, oh well
July 1st, 2009 at 7:18 pm
We’ve missed you, Buttermaker. If I knew you were about to arrive, I wouldn’t have stolen your thunder!
July 1st, 2009 at 7:18 pm
A few weeks ago, I was home sick from work and watched the original Bad News Bears. It had me so fired up. The Phillies need to get that attitude back. And tell the Yankees to shove their trophies up their asses.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:18 pm
but we’re playing the Braves
July 1st, 2009 at 7:19 pm
.260 to answer you question Mike the downer, but what 22 or 21 HR and 50 something rbi. What he has done every year for the past two years,
40-50 HR 130-150 RBI and strike out 200 times, you are an idiot MIke
July 1st, 2009 at 7:19 pm
Remember everyone you must have three outs to end an inning of baseball.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:20 pm
Cole needs to throw strikes
July 1st, 2009 at 7:21 pm
@Mike: Howard is batting .259
July 1st, 2009 at 7:21 pm
baseball what are you trying to say
July 1st, 2009 at 7:22 pm
Now can Howard feed me with a homerun blast because I am hungry for Phillies runs.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:23 pm
Nice 14 pitch first, now lets get some run support for our friend hollywood Cole
July 1st, 2009 at 7:24 pm
Please feed the Bear!
July 1st, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Last year Howard ate up the Braves pitching staff – oops, another strike out
July 1st, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Except the Phillies are the ones with the trophies.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:26 pm

July 1st, 2009 at 7:30 pm
(sigh) Bear goes hungry.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:31 pm
Remember everyone you must use two hands to catch a pop-up to avoid the possibility that you may drop it. May I remind you of someone named Luis Castillo.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:35 pm
It’s nice to see McCann do the o’fers – long time Philly killer
July 1st, 2009 at 7:36 pm
i guess jurgens gets the high strike but hamels doesn’t
July 1st, 2009 at 7:36 pm
Is there a little zip tonight on Cole’s fastball? I think the radar gun displayed a 93 mph 4seam fastball -
July 1st, 2009 at 7:38 pm
another quick inning
July 1st, 2009 at 7:39 pm
Now Bako has the chance to feed me with a blast. Let the Phillies score like never before
July 1st, 2009 at 7:40 pm
@Brooks: Yup, the one that the walked batter fouled off was a 93mph pitch.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:41 pm
I have a friend who thinks Hamels looks like he belongs in a boy band, and he was definitely looking like it in that first shot of him at the plate.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:44 pm
Hey! JRoll’s on base! And he got there by waiting out a pitcher!!!
July 1st, 2009 at 7:44 pm

OK, now it’s time for the bats to bail Hamels out.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:06 pm

July 1st, 2009 at 8:28 pm

July 1st, 2009 at 8:28 pm
I’m wearing my Ryan Howard t-shirt; what more do you want from me???
July 1st, 2009 at 8:29 pm
Yea this guy on the mound must be the second coming of Bob Gibson, how can this offense look so good, and then not even show up, is this guy really that good, I mean he is 5-6 so someone must be able to hit him,
Man I love these guys but some times it is so frustrating
July 1st, 2009 at 8:31 pm
good job walk a guy who is hitting 230
July 1st, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Jurrjens has the stuff of a great pitcher. I project him to be an ace. Needless to say, you’d think the Phillies could get A HIT off of him!
July 1st, 2009 at 8:32 pm
ugh this inning sucks already
July 1st, 2009 at 8:33 pm
Hamels sucks tonight
July 1st, 2009 at 8:33 pm

July 1st, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Hamels is giving up a lot of hits
July 1st, 2009 at 8:34 pm
ugh what is going on with Cole. He is suppose to be our ace. He has not pitch good since that L.A game.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Sorry Cole time for you to go please get right before you next start, where have you gone
July 1st, 2009 at 8:35 pm

he is stinking up the joint,
July 1st, 2009 at 8:36 pm
good lord Cole sucks lately
July 1st, 2009 at 8:36 pm
My God, what has happened to our pitchers, I can’t stand to watch anymore…
July 1st, 2009 at 8:37 pm
Please say pitching change when i go back to MLB.com, Cole just does not have it tonight
July 1st, 2009 at 8:37 pm
so much for the braves offense supposedly “sucking”…now the bullpen is going to be overused again..great
July 1st, 2009 at 8:37 pm
I would go as far as to say that Hamels is not our ace
July 1st, 2009 at 8:38 pm
thank you, about two batters too late, but thank you
July 1st, 2009 at 8:39 pm
It’s depressing to see the WFC play like this, I really don’t understand.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:39 pm
4 innings 6 runs that is pathetic
July 1st, 2009 at 8:40 pm
As a rival NL East fan, which team do you root against? The NL East race is so tight that it’s deleterious to root for any other divisional rival! It most certainly is going to be a very interesting second half of 2009.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:40 pm
the braves offense does suck, just Cole suck worse tonight, both those run scoring innings started with work
July 1st, 2009 at 8:41 pm
and it keeps getting ugly. Seriously this team suck. And now I think it is time for panic. They have been playing HORRIBLE baseball for about a month. They would be in 3 place if the NL east did not suck.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:42 pm
7 runs in 4 innings for Hamels wow get your head out of your ass Cole
July 1st, 2009 at 8:43 pm
Hey where did Cole go. We want him back. We love hitting against him. Ace, he is not even a number three on our team. He is so so scary to hit against. He did better today then his last start. LOL
July 1st, 2009 at 8:43 pm
Terri,
I wonder if that’s a belief held by baseball fans everywhere – “the National League East is terrible.”
Do you think so?
July 1st, 2009 at 8:43 pm
this really is totally depressing, i never thought that this team could play this bad, anyone want tickets to sunday games, I mean I have to drive 7 hours on saturday and seven hours on monday, if they are not going to care, I am not sure it is worth the drive and money, good seats
July 1st, 2009 at 8:45 pm
They stink right now. Let’s pray for some redemption. Pitching and hitting are really weak. I hope we can get out of this soon.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:45 pm
it’s seriously embarrassing that the defending world champions are playing like this…charlie – another team meeting please??
July 1st, 2009 at 8:45 pm
When Hamels got the hook, I gave this game the hook. What a poor excuse for baseball. I can’t watch anymore. I may not watch tomorrow.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:46 pm
I just farted while throwing up. They are making me sick.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:46 pm
Oh God I am acting like one of them, hopefully they will make me eat my words and come back like they did in philly,
July 1st, 2009 at 8:46 pm
Man I can’t take this! It is horrible!
July 1st, 2009 at 8:46 pm
Someone said yesterday Happ was looking like our best pitcher, followed by “are you an idiot, Cole Hamels is our ace”. Well he HAD a great year last year, and had a GREAT start against the Dodgers, other than that he has been ok. NOT Ace like. Happ has been better this year. Hamels apparently cant handle the stardom. He did great last year and playoff pretty much flying under the radar. NOW, he is completely out there touted as the “World Champions Ace”, and he cant handle it. Most people were pissed about Blanton giving up 3 runs in 5 innings. I hope people are even more peeved about Hamels giving up 6 runs in 5 innings (only credited with 4 IP because of outs. So honestly, knock of acting like Hamels is a lord and savior. He is NOT right. clearly. Its REALLY pathetic and sad when our lead off hitter gets a walk and that counts as a good day for him. Its not tonight that Cole and J-Roll havent had it. Cole was completely un hittable against the Dodgers in LA, other than that he has been OK. So can we play every game that Cole is scheduled to start in LA regardless of who we play?

I know know know Jimmmmmy is going to get it right. Maybe this winter.

Kochman is the only brave with a hit,
July 1st, 2009 at 8:47 pm
Kochman is the only brave with a hit, i mean with out
July 1st, 2009 at 8:47 pm
You know, the Mets went 9-18 in June, and somehow they are sitting only 2 games behind us once we lose this stinker tonight. 9-18, and we didn’t bury them. Unbelievable. We should be ahead by 10 games at least right now.
I fear this is going to bite us in the ass in the end.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:47 pm
With the team playing like this and our home record I am not looking forward to the Mets coming to town.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:48 pm
Both Phillies and Mets are suck. Marlins will be on the top of NL east soon.
Phillies need a decent starting pichter. Lets go get chien- Ming Wang from Yankees. His trading price is low and will pitch well in second half.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:48 pm
it’s kind of weird though for tyler walker to give up those runs because he’s pitched pretty well his last couple of innings in previous games
July 1st, 2009 at 8:49 pm
This team is in big trouble.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:49 pm
When Cole got the hook you gave the game the hook? How about when Cole gave up 6 runs by the time he way yanked in the 5th give the game the hook. This team completely lost its identity. It had the identity that if they are leading after the 7th inning, its a win, and dont count them out because they never say die and never roll over. They lost both. They all need to do some soul searching prior to sinking to .500.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:50 pm
Look there’s no mystery behind Hamels problems and I say it again, he needs more than 2 pitches. Do you think major league hitters wouldn’t adjust. And with two pitches your really limited when something goes wrong or batters won’t take. Just more evidence that this is was one poorly prepared pitching staff. DUBEE your staff is hemorrhaging.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:50 pm
Why are you worring about the mets the braves and marlins will be ahead of them and the phillies soon if they keep playing like this,
Something has to give.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:50 pm
Too many guys are looking too comfortable up there againast Phillies pitching. Time to back a few of em’ off of the plate
July 1st, 2009 at 8:52 pm
If we don’t win 2 out of 3, at least, from that depleted Mets lineup… I mean, that would just be inexcusable. The Mets are running the AA out there every day.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:52 pm
The Braves just started teeing off on Hamels after their first go around! Could it be Bako might be giving away signs and paying attention to them! You never know
July 1st, 2009 at 8:53 pm
Joey from NJ, please tell me you are joking. NEVER say decent starting pitcher and Chien Ming Wang in the same sentence. SERIOUSLY in MLB he has the HIGHEST era of starting pitchers with more than 2 starts. ONLY ONCE has he given up less than 8 runs in a game, and that was against the Mutts who went 9-18 in that stretch. Can we PLEASE stop talking about Wang. He make Adam Eaton look like a cy young winner. he SUCK. 1 win. Not to mention every other start he has given up about 8 runs prior to the 4th innings.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:54 pm
Marlins and Braves are going nowhere. The Mets are going nowhere either if they don’t get healthy soon, but they are the only threat if they can actually get healthy.
The fact that we are not in first place by 10 games at least right now is a damn disgrace.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:54 pm
yes the phillies Cole pitched like Adam Eaton tonight, but getting no hit by this guy is much worse in my; opinion, the offense has to play way better, the starting pitching has be OK last few weeks, and the pen and no offense lost alot of those games.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:56 pm
this is a nine pitch at bat for ryan
July 1st, 2009 at 9:01 pm
I think I am going to go home and just cry, I can not believe I am going to drive all night, friday to get to phila for a 4th of July game against the mets with my guys playing with no heart or fire it is sad, I am not sick I am crying,
July 1st, 2009 at 9:02 pm
DJ: no. When your ace features two pitches you have a 50/50 chance of guessing what his pitches are. Backo is considered to be a good defensive catcher…he would be on to sign stealing.
July 1st, 2009 at 9:06 pm
wtf Hamels… seriously?? don’t we have a pitching coach to help out with problems like these? sheesh
July 1st, 2009 at 9:07 pm
J Reed, True But Iv’e never seen a team tag Hamels like that that quick and then as soon as Walker comes in 2 guys who never hit home runs get 1. I guess I’m just trying to figure out where it all went wrong
July 1st, 2009 at 9:12 pm
mets don”t have power lineup like before , but they have better starting pitchers and releif pitchers than Phillies. I think they will take 2 of 3 this weekend.
July 1st, 2009 at 9:13 pm
finally a hit.
July 1st, 2009 at 9:14 pm
Does Ryan Howard scare anybody. I realize the man can hit some long balls at times, He really does nothing 25 of 30 days a month.
July 1st, 2009 at 9:15 pm
this is very embarrasing tonight
one hit?????????? ONE????????????
ok now something has to be done.
July 1st, 2009 at 9:15 pm
While the Muts suck now, I’m worried that our team is really actually healthy. Minus Raul, who are we really missing. The Muts are going to get Reyes, Beltran, Delgado back. We need to kick it into gear because they will play better when they get healthy
July 1st, 2009 at 9:18 pm
I will just say this: the ‘08 Phillies > the ‘09 Phillies
Both teams struggled in June, but the ‘08 Phillies had a shutdown bullpen and an ace. The ‘09 Phillies have neither.
July 1st, 2009 at 9:19 pm
Just thought I would share my current facebook status with everyone.
The Phillies have one hit in the 8th inning. ONE! Truly pathetic and embarrassing tonight. Their “ace” gave up a bunch of runs also. Maybe this will be embarrassing enough for them to resemble a major league team sometime in the near future.
July 1st, 2009 at 9:19 pm
So does this mean that rookie JA Happ is the Phils ace now?
July 1st, 2009 at 9:21 pm
Wou Houston Do Rollins forTejafa straight up since Tejada’s contract expires?
July 1st, 2009 at 9:26 pm
Tejada is a crappy fielder and Ed Wade admitted that he wants to move Tejada to 1B.
Rollins heated up last July and the Phillies have to hope he does again this season.
July 1st, 2009 at 9:26 pm
2 hits now
I am proud
July 1st, 2009 at 9:29 pm
this is rediculous man! jesus phillies….how bout u put some damn heart and passion into the game…..if we dont turn ourselves around soon were gonna be sellers rather then buyers……does anyone know of any possible trades the phillies are intrested in…cause im sure after this game the front office will wanna work quick and get something done before its to late..
July 1st, 2009 at 9:29 pm
psujoe-rumor is Houston are not sellers…they do this every year, have a couple of streaks and suddenly feel as though they’re contenders and delay the rebuilding that they need.
July 1st, 2009 at 9:32 pm
Phillies lost and mets won today. I am so happy . Phillies are choking now . We will sweep Phillies this weekend even with our triple A lineup
July 1st, 2009 at 9:34 pm
this game just need to end
July 1st, 2009 at 9:34 pm
This game is pathetic. I can’t watch this crap anymore. This is no longer a slump. I am worried that what we are seeing is the true face of this team. Its one thing to lose but another to not even be competitive. The whole team appears to lack drive and an overall willingness to win. Since the beginning of June we have been one of the worst teams in baseball. The mets are less then 3 games back and they are under 500. The phillies should be running away with the NL East but instead are gradually drifting out of first place in the worst division in baseball. They need to turn things around quick because I am scared thinking about what their record will be at the all star break.
July 1st, 2009 at 9:35 pm
Heres the good news. I have Javier Vazquez in fantasy. Id say he is about 80% to throw a no hitter vs the phils tomorrow.
July 1st, 2009 at 9:35 pm
Flushing sucks. It’s surrounded by places that are all better than it: Whitestone, Bayside, Forest Hills….
July 1st, 2009 at 9:36 pm
I highly doubt that, Mets fan from Flushing. How many runs have the Mets mustered up against their opponents within the last three series? The numbers are discouraging, to say the least. This weekend will be a period of redemption for the Phillies. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves now!
July 1st, 2009 at 9:36 pm
Pretty sure giving up a three game lead in June is called baseball. Giving up a 7 game lead in September is called choking…see the difference? Now go away.
July 1st, 2009 at 9:43 pm
Charlie giving up, not that he shouldn’t this team showed no heart tonight, Utley went out, Howard out, what is the scoop on that, anybody know why
July 1st, 2009 at 9:49 pm
the same thing happened last june David. and where did that get you? oh yeah forgot, no where. its amazing how pathetic mets fans are. they dont say a word when they lose every game. they win one game and are still not in first and they all come out of the wood works. cant wait for them to lose again and have them run away with their mutt tails between their legs.
July 1st, 2009 at 9:50 pm
Maybe Hamels thinks he needs a couple of weeks stint on the DL like a few of the other Phillies got.
July 1st, 2009 at 9:51 pm
When Diory Hernandez get a homer off your team, you know the Thillies stink. Go Braves!
July 1st, 2009 at 9:51 pm
you know fellow Phillies fans I am always hearing about heart, but heart isn’t always the issue in these dark stretches we should be familiar with by now. There are 162 games, and you can pour as much heart into every game as you want but, it won’t always save you from the Law of Averages….you can get nth well hit balls to the opposition and put your heart into every swing. That’s why they play 162 games. You beat the Law of Averages during the rough patches by playing heads-up small ball and crafty coaching.

Biggest Fluke Championship in Baseball History Your 2008 Phillies
July 1st, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Wow, that was one of the most douchebaggish comments I’ve ever seen
July 1st, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Hamels knows Happ is gonna be their MAN….the jealousy is setting in.. the front office loves Happ…I must agree totally with Andy the FLUKE has been caught ….their folding like Walmart patio furniture hope Charlie doesn’t lose his job…the human gum chewing bobble head coach….I don’t care who you are thats funny….with that I”m OUTTTTTTA HEREEEEE.
July 1st, 2009 at 10:31 pm
mikeB-nope. I say it again until i am blue in the face…he’s not the type of pitcher who can still get away with 2 pitches. Actually, most mlb SP pitchers need a minium of 3. If he doesn’t get that yakker down it might be a rough year for him. It looked a better in that Orioles game, but that could also have been the cold…the air’s denser and that gives the ball more break. I think this should have been addressed in spring training but then again I’m not not suprised with Dubee at the staff helm. If he goes on the DL it should be to work on his curveball…actually Halladay was sent down to the minors at one point in his career to develop a change-up to complement his devastating sinker.
July 1st, 2009 at 10:37 pm
mike b. – sorry i think that was a toronto game, whatever game it was, it was unseasonably cold and wet.
July 1st, 2009 at 10:43 pm
Jimmy Rollins – 0 for his last 27 at bats with 3 walks, 1 sb (tonight).
Wow, this was a barfo special tonight
