Gameday: Phillies (49-38) At Marlins (46-45)
Posted by Amanda Orr, Fri, July 17, 2009 06:35 PM
Philadelphia Phillies (49-38) at Florida Marlins (46-45)
Cole Hamels (5-5, 4.87 ERA) vs. Ricky Nolasco (6-7, 5.76 ERA)
Time: 7:10 p.m at Land Shark Stadium
Weather: Sunny, 86
TV: Comcast Sportsnet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
After a steady increase in workload over the past few years, Cole Hamels was given an extra day to rest his arm. In his first start of the second half, Hamels hopes to build consistency. Hamels got the no-decision in his last outing despite allowing three home runs. Hamels is 2-4 with a 4.15 ERA in eight career starts against the Marlins. He hasn’t beaten the Marlins since September of 2006, but playing in a pitcher-oriented yard should help him get back on track.
Ricky Nolasco struggled at the beginning of the season, so the Marlins optioned him to Triple-A to work things out. Despite a shaky start in his last outing, he must have solved his problems; he is 4-2 with a 2.68 ERA since returning to the Major Leagues. Nolasco is 4-3 with a 4.25 ERA against the Phillies in his career.
A win will not only increase the Phillies winning streak, but increase their lead in the division over the second-place Marlins.
Your Gameday Beer – Hoegaarden Original White Ale
The village of Hoegaarden in Belgium has been brewing witbeir since the Middle Ages; yet this traditional variety is produced by InBev and can be found all over the world. It has a cloudy and creamy appearance that contain its sweet citrus flavors – an easy drinker in either a stout glass or its shapely bottle with or without a lemon wedge. A nice fresh salmon fillet goes nicely with this brew. -By Brian

not a great start for Hamels . . .
July 17th, 2009 at 7:25 pm
jesus christ cole… what the hell is wrong with him?
July 17th, 2009 at 7:25 pm
Poor Cole…
July 17th, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Cole freaking Hamels…what’s wrong?!
July 17th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
It’s the workload last year and bad prep for the season, Cole needs this off-season to come in a hurry.
July 17th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
Oh, that was awful.
July 17th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
J-Roll fell asleep there…cole has lost his ability to get the strikeout. almost like his changeup doesnt drop as much…
July 17th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
Apparently Cole has said he doesn’t have the feel for his change-up, he certainly doesn’t seem to be throwing that circle-change much without bouncing it.
That play was on Feliz, would have been tough for J-Roll to get to it and make the throw that deep.
July 17th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
something about former phillies (rolen, barajas, paulino) that makes them play against the phillies really well. sheesh.
July 17th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Agreed. Feliz lshould have had that ball. Geeze, Paulino singled. Here we go again. C-o-l-e aren’t you missing your facial-manicure appointment?
Come on Dude!
July 17th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
Hamels strikes out the side
July 17th, 2009 at 7:48 pm
who is this guy talking about jimmy needing to take it easy
July 17th, 2009 at 7:49 pm
and christmas?
July 17th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
Christmas in July: Because two months of Christmas in the winter just isn’t enough.
July 17th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
OK, lets get some insurance runs here. I’m not comfortable with just a 2-1 lead.
July 17th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
Oh, nicely hit, Ryan!
July 17th, 2009 at 8:08 pm
woo Werth
July 17th, 2009 at 8:09 pm
WOO HOO!!! That’s what I’m talking about!
July 17th, 2009 at 8:10 pm
Oh baby!!! FELIZ!
July 17th, 2009 at 8:10 pm
alright Feliz!
July 17th, 2009 at 8:11 pm
Werth had an off day yesterday. Good job today with a 1 run single!
July 17th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
looks like bases loaded for Hamels huh. Be nice for him to pad his own game.
July 17th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
Conine on the marlins broadcast said he was talking to people and we are defiantely close to getting Doc Halladay.
July 17th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
OK Jimmy: Don’t blow it.
July 17th, 2009 at 8:15 pm
(sigh) Well, at least we have a good comfort zone
July 17th, 2009 at 8:15 pm
oh well 2 runs isnt bad.
July 17th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
Andrew, Ill believe that when I see it. Lets hope so though!
July 17th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
Conine thinks got the all time hits record while with expos.
No got hit number 4000 with the expos
He broke the record with the reds vs the padres
July 17th, 2009 at 8:22 pm
pete rose i am refering to
July 17th, 2009 at 8:29 pm
Oh if ya get Hallady wow but Cole is not gonna like it …..no no his wife is gonna be pissed …he’s number 1 ….come my now ….he will throw a hissey fit…but hey look Cole even said ….I was not prepared for the season…oh! what were you doing Cole…SURFING…Happ is doing way better then expected and Blanton man he’s right there….but then again the NL east is a weak division this year…..I myself don’t think they will pay what is going to be asked…..St. Louis might cause Hallady’s buddy is there…in that case its either LA…or Cards….for W/S play….
July 17th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
Wow Howard quickest to 200 Homers ….nice imagine if the team brought him up sooner…..I wonder
July 17th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Had to wait for Thome to fizzle out. He is a guy I cant remember ever getting a big hit. Not one. Same with Abreau. Sometimes it is addition by subtraction.
July 17th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
man, I’m glad that Nolasco wasn’t throwing like he did in this inning earlier in the game.
July 17th, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Howard of yeah….200 homers in 2405 ab’s…..guess they left out the part about STRIKE OUTS…..795 in 658 games….he’ll break 900 this year…yeah bring him up sooner he’d be over 1000 by now….that stat stands out.
July 17th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
Yowsa, that’s a lot of rain!
July 17th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
So it’s raining pretty hard there in Florida? Any chance of rain out?
July 17th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
Cole is done after this rain. The Mets have gone booom. Where are you Eli??Hopefully steroids, I dont stand up for the National Anthem will come back for you.
July 17th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
I am lucky enough to tur over to the Mess game with the rain. Just in time to see Pelfrey puching things in the dug out LOL
The announcers are making excuses. PLEASE bring omar and jerry and keep this team in tact. Its nice having them be a non factor every year.
Rain out? its an offical game if they call it
July 17th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
metmanslam, the other stat that stands is 7.5 games back. jealous much?
July 17th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
This should be a considered a game right, or do the Marlins have to complete the inning? How long will they let it go?
July 17th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
Leave Metmanslam alone. His team is aweful. To bad the Nationals are here.
July 17th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
LOL. Your no fun Jeff. LOL Its so easy though.
July 17th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
Knock, knock… watch out Mets… the Nats are right behind you
July 17th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
Sheffield got injured
July 17th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
Is Kieth Hernandez mentally retarded? Just wondering.
Nice night to watch a mets game
Disgraceful
July 17th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
The Mets are in freefall, atrocious.
July 17th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
Yeah Cole. 5 strikeouts and only 1 aloud run. Way better than last game.
July 17th, 2009 at 9:56 pm
good start for cole – the rain delay sucks though because he probably could have gone at least 7 innings and he was pitching really well…at least it’s progress
July 17th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Dont worry Mets fans Sheffield only has cramps.
Maybe tomorrow you will lose 12-1 instead of 12-0
Menstrual cramps are pains in the abdominal (belly) and pelvic areas that are experienced by a woman as a result of her menstrual period. Menstrual cramps are not the same as the discomfort felt during premenstrual syndrome (PMS), although the symptoms of both disorders can sometimes be experienced as a continual process. Many people suffer from both PMS and menstrual cramps.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
Chan Ho! Chan Ho Chan Ho Chan Ho! Chan Hoooooo! Chan Hooooooo!
July 17th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
Game has resumed! And whoa, check out that lightning!
July 17th, 2009 at 10:12 pm
chaddyshack lightning
July 17th, 2009 at 10:12 pm
Mets in freefall isn’t atrocious. It’s a joy!
July 17th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
I’m amazed there are still people in the stands. It was pretty empty even before the rain.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:17 pm
Tracey,
and to think, someone decided that they need a NEW stadium. For who, for what?
July 17th, 2009 at 10:17 pm
We need the Mets to win a game or two — to keep the Braves down!
July 17th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
They dont deserve a team let alone a new stadium.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
ut oh this is getting interesting. need this one.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
nice Feliz
July 17th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
Andrew- more hard to believe they have two worlds series as well…they did have several firesales that pissed off fans….but jeez considering there are teams that have never even gone to one….I agree miami doesn’t deserve them…I like to see them move to a western state and become part of the AL West….The NL has been victimized by Selig’s small market experiment. Why water down the talent for the big market Yankees, and Red Sox with another expansion team.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:33 pm
atta boy Bruntlett. Take one for the team. Break a leg.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
The current Marlins stadium is too far away from Miami… people don’t like going there…plus, it’s not really a baseball stadium. I think the new stadium will do wonders for that team.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
Does Werth have to swing at everything. I dont like this game. We had everything going until the rain. It stopped us moving forward. No more Cole and Raul. They have a shift of momentum.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
KA-BOOM! Refuse to believe its over.Oh well,Jets and Islanders Season 2 and 3 months away respectfully.I actually hope the Mets go down further, this way Omar can start preparing for Hot Stove early and get headaches doing his homework for a 2010 roster.I actually hope the Mets get a military type manager to replace Jerry Manuel and no more Loosey Goosey bull that they have been playing with…It is a sport and it is a business too and thats sad however this Millionaire Boys Club needs a kick in the ass. Also if the Wilpons are gonna start crying poverty and not put a quality team on the field, than its time to sell (Vince McMahon are you listening)……..Oh well,216 more days til Pitchers and Catchers WHAT A WASTE!
July 17th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
thank god for pedro
July 17th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
Only good thing about this season…I am silently rooting for Rollins,Hamels,Feliz and Happ because I have them on my Main fantasy team and helping me big time.lol
July 17th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
Told you I was not comfortable with this game. The rain hurt us. Also did we have to give up this kid.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
ugh, I really hate close games like this.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
Paulino, the Phillie-killer
July 17th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
Is it me or does Madson throw way too many down the middle, belt high fastballs?
July 17th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
that was a strike
July 17th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
well i hope lidge is on his game when he comes in…chad durbin next
July 17th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Grumpy – larry bowa fits the description
July 17th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
They should just put Lidge for the 1.1 inning save… why not?
July 17th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Manny- ex-catchers (though i don’t know how long we had Paulino) seem to be puttin’ it to us this year.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
FAIL
July 17th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
we never get Wes Helms out . . .
July 17th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
DAMN IT! F U WES HELMS! Who the F do you think you are
July 17th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
wow…that ump is ridiculous.. BOTH of those pitches could have easily been strikes considering that he called howard and werth out on strike 3 pitches that were way worse than romero’s
July 17th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
Paulino for Taschner was a terrible trade. Paulino is better than Coste and Bako.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
should have kept J.C in or bring in Lidge.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
I told you boys…We lose. When the rain came Cole left. I said this game is not ours to win. I was right
July 17th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
dont you dare walk him
July 17th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
so much for our bullpen being able to turn the corner
July 17th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
Geoff, Taschner did a decent job, though…
July 17th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
this sucks
July 17th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
Durbin sucks. He always gets in these kind of jams.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
the bullpen needs another solid arm in there. thats been lost in the Halladay Hysteria – along with the need for RH Pinch HItter
July 17th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
Taschner was OK. good guy though if you watched the Pen.. I felt really bad for him when he got DFA
July 17th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
Feliz-Ruiz-Mayberry
July 17th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
should still be 4-3…thanks ump for being consistent with that strike zone
July 17th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Did anyone pick him up? he just had a kid like before the season now he got released (better have invested that baseball money well)
July 17th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
HELMS!!!!!!!! curses to thee
July 17th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
Taschner is in Lehigh Valley
July 17th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
cool.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
could be useful to store in LHV in case a few guys get injured.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
alright Dobbs
July 17th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
DOBBS!!!
July 17th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
nice stroke from Dobbs. Now get the runner in and escape with the victory with a Lidge save.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
Yes Dobbs!
C’mon J-out, don’t you dare ground into a dp
July 17th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
Geoff- and no thanks to The Pen for showing Taschner’s new born…with Romero’s emminent return most knew he was gone. Can’t help but think the show’s producers knew it to…get the empathy up…thought it was cheap of the show. oh well
July 17th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
I think Bastardo would really help this pen.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
ugh Ruiz
July 17th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
Just grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat
July 17th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
We can’t catch a break
July 17th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
aww man they froze ruiz bad. he coudnt go ANYWHERE. that was weak. its up to Shane
July 17th, 2009 at 11:13 pm
I would stand there until Nunez throws a controlled strike. Hes a little wild.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
boo
July 17th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
ugh, that was our chance.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
Yes it was a balk but we look like the bad news bears on the bases.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
Bowa would never come here and manage the Amazins.Minaya would be so far up his ass it’ll make him want to step on Minaya like a Cochroach,Also I don’t think he can shape up this group of shlubs and scrubs into ballplayers.Bowa wouldn’t stand for the upper office crap and politics.I wouldn’t think Charlie Manuel,Bobby Cox or even Lou Piniella himself could shape this team up.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
I’m scared now with Lidge and this weird, tight strike zone.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
Boy after that replay that WAS A BALK….We win.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
Wow, Durbin staying in.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
don’t think we’ll get out of this
July 17th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
Seriously, Durbin does not pitch good in these situations. WTH
July 17th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
i wonder, with all the rain delays at that stadium, how many games the Marlins have won after rain delays that have interupted play for more than 30 minutes. Esp. games they were trailing…
July 17th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
Can we get a major league umpire behind the plate tomorrow?
July 17th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
this is over he cant get one over the plate
July 17th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Geoff- in regards to bastardo, I couldn’t agree more…he’s got the demeanour, the canon and really only needs that change-up which he didn’t throw a whole lot but when he did, it was far more effective then his slider that had no break. First time i saw him thought he should be groomed for a closer’s role
July 17th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
Oh, holy hell, I thought they’d call the game, and so I check back and it’s tied up? Who gave up those 3 runs?
July 17th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
Durbin cannot throw a strike this is sad, can we get him out!!
July 17th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Georgie, Park 1 Madson 2
July 17th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
well we got out of it, woo
July 17th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
Madson? Ugh.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
thank god. but now who pitches ? lol
July 17th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Utley, Howard, Stairs
July 17th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
well we still have Lidge, Condrey, and Eyre
July 17th, 2009 at 11:35 pm
it all started with madson because he only throws fastballs and they are right down the middle of the plate…he needs to get his stuff together and throw his changeup, his best pitch
this is a time we need raul!!!
July 17th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
Crud, suddenly the Marlin’s bullpen is holding the line.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
I just released nunez in fantasy today. Its my fault i guess
July 17th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
This is why I wish we left in Raul. I trust his hitting more then dobbs and mayberry when he was in left.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
Eyre
July 17th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
why cant any phillies pitchers throw strikes.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
2 outs no one on walk Uggla…doesn’t matter if someone’s one
July 17th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
good boy eyre…
July 17th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
nice, now can we score?
July 17th, 2009 at 11:50 pm
I predict Bruntlett gets the Paul Bako gets the winning hit in the 19th
this one could be interesting
who is the long reliever?
July 17th, 2009 at 11:50 pm
We head to the 11th….
July 17th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
we used Bruntlett already
July 17th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
there is a special Bruntlett rule he can be used twice in any game over 14 innings. Its the amish beard.
July 17th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
Bruntlett can only get on base if he gets hit
July 17th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
Did we by chance hire last years Mets Pitching coach?
July 18th, 2009 at 12:01 am
After 5 hours, I am not mentally prepared to lose this game. I was almost ready in the bottom of the 9th, but now I am fully prepared.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:04 am
DPs are fun
July 18th, 2009 at 12:04 am
Ok guys, we got a game with the Marlins tonight. And that only means one thing. Bad news for the Marlins.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:05 am
I am really getting tired of our Bullpen. They will come out one game (yesterday) and not give up a hit in 3 innings, then come out today and give up 3 runs in 2 innings.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:06 am
Vin Scully is calling the game on 773. The man is baseball.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:08 am
woo Jimmy
July 18th, 2009 at 12:08 am
I used to live in Japan, and about once a week, if the Dodgers were playing at home and either Ishii or Nomo was pitching, I would get the Dodgers broadcast. There is nothing like hearing Scully call a game.
Nice hit Jimmy. Let Jimmy steal here.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:10 am
great bunt vic
July 18th, 2009 at 12:12 am
If Utley and Howard can’t get Jimmy in…
July 18th, 2009 at 12:12 am
Well sadly this is where we have SUCKED today. RISP with 1 out.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:12 am
next time can madson stop throwing so many fastballs? cause he’s the reason we’re in extra innings now
July 18th, 2009 at 12:13 am
Wow, just saw the score of the Mets game tonight. That team stinks out loud.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:13 am
NICE!
July 18th, 2009 at 12:13 am
woo Utley
July 18th, 2009 at 12:14 am
thank you chase
who else is nervous about lidge? please get another run or 2 ryan K howard
July 18th, 2009 at 12:14 am
Chase!
July 18th, 2009 at 12:14 am
I’m feeling a homer by Ryan here.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:15 am
alright we manufactured a run….i like it
July 18th, 2009 at 12:15 am
lidge better get this game done already…
July 18th, 2009 at 12:15 am
Thank you Ultey
July 18th, 2009 at 12:15 am
Ok, I meant to say, “I’m feeling a homer by Bako here.”
July 18th, 2009 at 12:16 am
walking Bako is a surprise to the world
July 18th, 2009 at 12:16 am
I’d like to see 201 for rhyno cause lidge makes me nervous too
July 18th, 2009 at 12:16 am
2 years ago, I would claim the Marlins are managing like Charlie Manuel by walking Bako to get to Werth.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:17 am
ck is right, Lidge better be on his game tonight. We should have had this game easily and much earlier.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:17 am
Hope Werth launches this one out of the park, just to get back at him for walking Bako
July 18th, 2009 at 12:18 am
walking Bako hurts them, haha
July 18th, 2009 at 12:19 am
Werth = Clutch
July 18th, 2009 at 12:19 am
walking bako and hitting bruntlett= we win!!!!
the dynamic duo
they walked bako LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
marlins announcers saying bako has 3 rbi this year werth has 59
wow bad managing
July 18th, 2009 at 12:20 am
Jayson shows his Werth!
July 18th, 2009 at 12:20 am
Werth is the only guy who can look like Von Hayes and Willie Mays in the same at-bat.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:21 am
Boy Wheeler wont let that balk go. I did
July 18th, 2009 at 12:22 am
ok come on. 2 run buffer DONT screw this up.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:23 am
Morris, that is a one liner for books man. Thats classic.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:23 am
Hey, Chris Wheeler can either talk about the balk or no-doubles defense, which do you want?
July 18th, 2009 at 12:25 am
curses on Paulino
July 18th, 2009 at 12:25 am
Werth has swings and at-bats in which it looks like he has never played baseball before in his life. And then other swings and ar-bats in which it looks like he was born with a bat in his hand.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:27 am
Lidge’s control is off. He got the first batter with him swinging. how only really put 2 pitches anywhere near the strike zone. Come on Lidge.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:27 am
4 pitch walk in the 12th to Paulino can either send you for the Tums or for a beer. I went for the beer.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:27 am
Shit.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:28 am
ugh Lidge
July 18th, 2009 at 12:28 am
I wish I felt more comfortable with Lidge on the mound.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:29 am
Ok, time for a double play.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:29 am
I have a VERY bad feeling about this.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:30 am
Lidge has no control.
He has had marginal control all year.
Fantastic.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:30 am
Happy thoughts guys. We’re Phillies fans, not Mets fans.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:30 am
it load’em up lidge tonight
July 18th, 2009 at 12:30 am
gee or walk the bases loaded. I think Charlie might need to pull him.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:30 am
i am vomiting. 14 innings to go 3-0 to volstad?
July 18th, 2009 at 12:30 am
Even with a g#$$&%@ pitcher up he can’t throw strikes.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:32 am
ok come on, 1 more out.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:32 am
Anyone else want to at least play with maybe pedro closing?
we do not have a guy closig I am cofrtable with at all now
July 18th, 2009 at 12:32 am
uggla….why not walk him…is a lefty up after uggla…if not I’d walk him
July 18th, 2009 at 12:32 am
Come on Lidge.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:33 am
wild pitch
is this really happening?
July 18th, 2009 at 12:33 am
Here comes the loss.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:33 am
I would not be surprised if it turns out that in some foreign language “Bako” means “Crap!”
July 18th, 2009 at 12:33 am
Someone call El Pupo.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:34 am
I have been one of the few supporting Lidge so far this season, but I am just about done with him.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:34 am
Phillies win
July 18th, 2009 at 12:34 am
thank you baseball gods
July 18th, 2009 at 12:34 am
Happy thoughts!
July 18th, 2009 at 12:34 am
another easy save for brad lidge!!!!!!!
look back to where i asked for an extra run
seriously lidge situation must be addressed. i cant take this especially in the playoffs
July 18th, 2009 at 12:35 am
Lidge has what is commonly called masturbator’s hand.
You’d think that, in a city like Miami, that would not be a problem.
That being said, have a good night, all.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:35 am
Thank you for giving me that crow Sandwich Lidge. Can we stop with giving us all heart attacks though.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:35 am
Whew thank you
July 18th, 2009 at 12:35 am
Got our money’s worth tonight.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:35 am
your going to win the weak division but you are going nowhere with that absolute bum trying to close games. what a joke
July 18th, 2009 at 12:36 am
Andrew is correct. I understand Charlie trying to have “faith in his players” but come on Charlie.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:37 am
Did anybody hear something? I thought I heard an insignificant speck make a sound.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:38 am
Hi Mets88, how is your team doing these last 20 games? Just because the Mets SUCK right now doesnt mean the division is weak.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:39 am
Hey, the Phillies won a the NL East two years in a row and a World Series with Charlie. We need to trust him somewhat. His having faith in players has done a lot.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:40 am
Mets fans are funny, when they are 2 games over .500 they ALL think the NL East is the strongest in the NL, and they will be in first by Sunday, then when they are 8.5 games back now and what 7 games UNDER .500 the NL East is weak and the Phillies suck. Jealous much? LOL
July 18th, 2009 at 12:40 am
yeah, Lidge really sucked last year when he went 48 for 48 and led his team to the World Series.
K-Rod is having a good year, it’s shame it’s wasted on a 4th place team going nowhere. Good start by Big Pelf tonight. That’s a nice 5.07 ERA in a pitcher’s park. The future is bright.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:41 am
Morris you have a point, but I dont want him to have too much faith. Sometimes it seems he has too much faith, where as with Jimy Williams on the bench with him, it was a little different.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:42 am
Nice win tonight. Before this series, I would have signed up for a split and now it’s time to get greedy. Good night everyone.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:43 am
Brian of CO – this why, with his fastball at topping off 92-93, i think he needs a something else in his arsenal, just don’t if he has another pitch that he only needs to polish up or if he would have to learn one from scratch. If it’s the latter I don’t know if it can happen until the off season. Just think the league has readjusted to him after his hiatus.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:43 am
I think it says more about the crapiness of the Phillies than the managerial skills of Charlie Manuel, but he is probably the best manager we have ever had. I put a lot of faith in him.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:44 am
Wow, mets fans are pathetic. dont even try insulting the team you are 8.5 games behind. that does not work. it only makes us laugh, and makes you, and your team look like fools.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:44 am
ok yea im jealous. lol. and yes how can you not say the division is weak when you have 2 aaa teams in it. and the marlins and the braves in it. come on.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:44 am
Thats the other funny thing about Mets fans. “We suck because of all of our Injuries”. LOL. I didnt know that Delgago and Beltran were on the mound with Pelfrey tonight, or maybe when Santana gave up 4 HR’s against the Phils in a loss, or maybe when Santana gove up 9 ER’s against the Yankees in 4 innings. Oh and I didnt know Delgado of Beltran was playing 2nd base and dropped the ball in the bottom on the 9th with 2 outs.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:45 am
Well you have that right 2 AAA teams, the Nationals and the Mets. LOL
July 18th, 2009 at 12:48 am
Did the Mets play tonight? I can’t seem to find the score of the game. I see that the Falcons beat the Jets 11-0 in a preseason NFL game. I guess it was three field goals and a safety. But I can not locate the score of the Mets-Braves game tonight.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:48 am
Brian of CO-meant to say that Lidge’s hiatus before joining the phillies meant batters had to reajust to him last year and by the end of last year it was more evident that they were. without a mean heater he needs to get crafty cause this will keep happening
July 18th, 2009 at 12:50 am
good points but if the tables were turned and you the phillies fans were watching a minor leaguer play first instead of howard. a 35 year old career backup playing ss instead of rollins. a career minor leager in cf instead of victorino not that victorino is half the player beltran is but ill go on. 2 starters out your setup man out i mean come on theres a difference between making excuses and stating facts. its easy for the phillies fans to say that
July 18th, 2009 at 12:51 am
morris i hope your in third grade with that pathetic joke lol
July 18th, 2009 at 12:51 am
Brian of CO yo I love the phillies as much as you but the division sucks hardcore… Chillll… I’d say if the phillies don’t ein it then you’d probably be the first among many to call it a failure
July 18th, 2009 at 12:53 am
morris-mlb has a live look in at the dodgers….your boy is calling the game
July 18th, 2009 at 12:53 am
So it is the Phillies fault that the Mets’ GM decided to sign a line-up that is all sizzle and no steak? How do injuries to Beltran, Delgado and Reyes cause Wright to have 1 hit in 2 weeks?
July 18th, 2009 at 12:55 am
u think say ibanez and howard can produce with me and you protecting them in the lineup and win games by themself
July 18th, 2009 at 12:55 am
Scully is great. I was just watching the broadcast too. He just ripped the Dodgers for about 5 minutes straight. It was such a relief to hear after listening to Wheels for the past 3 months.
July 18th, 2009 at 12:56 am
Well….must correct one of my blogs….ONLY 215 days til Pitchers and Catchers! This is the ONLY excitement I have as a Mets fan TODAY
July 18th, 2009 at 12:56 am
morris- well he was, but oswalt just closed the door the dodgers. Stros 8, LA 1. Oswalt another complete game
July 18th, 2009 at 12:57 am
The Fish are officially our “Fish-bitches”
Seem like both tonight and last night the Phils could have had 7 or 8 runs?
July 18th, 2009 at 12:58 am
Buttermaker…the Jets are NOT that pathetic to give up 3 field goals and a safety to the Falcons? lol
July 18th, 2009 at 12:59 am
DirecTV and Comcast are having a free preview of MLB extra innings. It is channels 770-784 on Comcast, I am loving it. I wish they had a September package.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:00 am
rob5000, saying sucks hardcores is a bit much. Braves might not be great, but they are not a bad team, Marlins are young and have potential, and can scare alot teams alot. Also mets 88, dont forget the Phillies did have a stretch there when Ibanez was out with 4 of our pitchers, and J-Roll looked horrible and Werth was looking very bad, most of us still said the same thing. What is up with our pitching. Even in that 1-11 stretch, most of us werent coming up with excuses of “if Ibanez was here”. You play with the hand you are dealt. As for some of the injuries. I would be more concerned about hamstring injuries. Sometimes you injure your hamstring from accidents, but in all the sports and games I have played in, every time I hurt my hamstring, or a teammate did, it was lack of preperation and stretching.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:00 am
I watched the Mets-Braves game last night. I have never seen two teams trying so hard to lose before. It was 3 hours of 2 men on base, no outs and getting no runs.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:01 am
Mets88, can’t you just do like your ball club has done and just roll over and die? “Boohoo, we’re injured, wah wah wah.” Were you injured in 2007 when you experienced one of the greatest collapses in baseball history? How about the same thing happening again last year, only to lead to us being WFCs. How Jerry still has his job is just beyond me. And you’re also based out of FLUSHING. Appropriate name for a team that stinks. Enjoy 4th place while it lasts, the Nationals are creeping up behind you!
July 18th, 2009 at 1:02 am
My tact with the mets idiots is I just blast away at how disgraceul that orginazation is. I dont get into spats with the morons. Why would you be on another teams site anyway? Because no one cares about the mess anymore
July 18th, 2009 at 1:03 am
The motto for the 2009 Mets should be “Thank Bud for the Nats.”
July 18th, 2009 at 1:04 am
morris – i haven’t really heard Scully that much, but he sounds too nice to rip the Dodgers esp. since they are playing good baseball, well…except for tonight, and with the little I saw, oswalt looked to nasty to hit, so i’m a bit suprised he didn’t give the Dodgers much slack. then again i didn’t watch the game so maybe they desevred it.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:04 am
Well there are some that come on here and say it like it is… i.e Grrrumpy Miner
July 18th, 2009 at 1:06 am
Mets 88…as for our injuries,It gave us a good look at our Minor Leaguers they brought up.From what I see,the immediate future of younger players looks so bad,I am not very confident.ONLY team I see in the Mets minor league system that has heart and promise is the Brooklyn Cyclones and some of these players are 3 years away at BEST.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:07 am
morris-i don’t know his name but he calls for the white sox…i can’t stand the guy’s homerun call
July 18th, 2009 at 1:08 am
I have to say Grrrumpy Miner, you are unlike most other Mets fans I know.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:08 am
I will say this for Vin Scully. Now I know that he is a legendary caster and will get some flack.I had Dodger games on my TV when I first got satellite and seriously his monotone voice actually CURED my insomnia
July 18th, 2009 at 1:11 am
Scully is incredibly classy, and he does not rip the Dodgers exactly, his tactic is to praise the other team. Tonight it was no so obvious because Oswalt is pitching, and he is a top of the line pitcher. But there are nights when you catch him and the Dodgers are down 5-0 in the 8th or 9th inning, and he is talking about a guy with 6+ ERA and career losing record and Scully is talking him up like he was Cy Young. Same thing I loved about Harry so much.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:12 am
Ken “Hawk” Harellson…”You can PUT IT ON THE BOOOOOOOOOOOOOARD YAAAHHHHHHHHHHEESSSSSSSSSSSSS” what drivel but NOBODY beats John Sterling or even Ron Santo in the background as Pat Hughes calls one out by Waveland Ave.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:14 am
I don’t know the name of the White Sox guy either, but I know exactly who you are talking about. Either way, the guys has nothing on the broadcasters from the YES network. I used to think Michael Kay was the worst announcer I have ever heaerd. And then I heard John Sterling.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:17 am
man for anyone with a fantasy team, pick up garret jones from the pirates…he just hit 2 hrs (one off Lincecum) to beat the giants…he hit two off of us over the weekend…could be quite a sleeper
July 18th, 2009 at 1:18 am
Harry added excitement and he stood out,at Wrigley and did the 7th inning stretch.I can respect that for his guts to do it (Eventho its his hometown) Kalas and Scully are in the same class as Jack Brickhouse,Harry Caray,Bob Murphy,Mel Allen,Jack Buck…oh I can go on with the old school voices of summer.Notice I don’t include homers like John Sterling,Milo Hamilton,or ANY caster who refers to the team he broadcasts for is “WE” or over the top theatricks.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:19 am
The Yankees announcer has an annoying home run call also. “An A-Bomb…For A-Rod” DAMN thats annoying.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:22 am
grumpy miner if our future has anything to do with that slop that was brought up were going to go on a red sox drought.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:23 am
yeah the YES network…24-7 yankees…talk about narcissism….i can’t stand them either but i’ve got to say in general and i say this acknowledging that it’s probably the hardest game to call, that i’d take them over hockey announcers any day.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:26 am
Try Texieria’s”Mark sends a Tiex Message”,the Johnny Damon”Johnny Rocket” Classics like Jeter”Oh Cap-i-tan My Cap-i-tan”…I wonder if Yankee fans sit by their radios rooting for this bag of flubber to yell “A Thrilla by Godzilla” Matsui or even the classics “The Giambino” Giambi and “Bam-Tino” Tino Martinez.I will know he’s losing his marbles when he starts yelling calls like “David has the Wright Stuff” or even “The Piazza-Man DELIVERS” or to make Phillies fans CRINGE “Utley makes the fans Chase that ball in the stands”
July 18th, 2009 at 1:27 am
Well 88….time to put the Green Monster up in CitiField! lol
July 18th, 2009 at 1:28 am
not knocking hockey, i like it…i can’t stand that heavy canadian accent and for some reason, they always sound nasally…
July 18th, 2009 at 1:29 am
well done grumpy how long have you been a met fan to be so accepting or content with this team
July 18th, 2009 at 1:31 am
wow grumpy are you serious about “tex message” but even worse is the jeter call….poor walt whitman.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:34 am
Been an Amazins fan since watching my first games in 1973.I grew up watching the horrendous late 1970’s teams with guys like Zachray,Flynn,Tavares,Youngblood,Pacella as he pitched he lossed his cap.Loved the Championship year in 86 Worked at Shea during that magical year as a food vendor til like 1988.My last memory was one of the greatest memories I will always cherish…the Last Play At Shea with Billy Joel. The last game on the TV had the look and feel like a Funeral.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:34 am
There all getting even more annoying seeing how easy it is to hit a homer in Yankees Stadium. I think I can hit a homer out of there.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:35 am
well at least you saw a championship i will probably die in my sleep at 90 before they win another
July 18th, 2009 at 1:36 am
As a Mets fan….I always wait for the other shoe to drop with this team….so far I seen a Stiletto,a Moccasin,OJ Simpsons Bruno Magli’s and a Cowboy Boot drop this season.I wonder what is next for this team.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:36 am
I want a Yankees-Phillies WS, and beat them in Game 7 at the new Yankee Stadium.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:36 am
brian your not seriously talking bout yankees stadium with home runs when your team plays in a little field right.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:37 am
brian your not seriously talking bout yankees stadium with home runs when your team plays in a little league field right.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:39 am
…with a dinger from Carlos Ruiz!!
July 18th, 2009 at 1:39 am
Yes JReed he actually uses that drek with Mark Texieria.Want a All-Annoying broadcasting team….John Sterling doing Play by Play with Ron Santo doing the Color. You want the ULTIMATE in Excedrin headache #95 that will do it for ya! lol
July 18th, 2009 at 1:39 am
Mets88, your not seriously suggesting that any other park has as many homers than the New Yankees Stadium are you? If you are you are clueless. CBP is a hitters park, but no where near as bad as Yankees Stadium. The new Yankees stadium has set a record for the most amount of homers out of a ballpark. I think that average 2 home runs a GAME. CBP isnt even that bad.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:40 am
mets88- you get to play here what 18 times a year… doesn’t seem to help your cause
July 18th, 2009 at 1:40 am
Utley up for the Ashburn?
July 18th, 2009 at 1:41 am
I just love how the Yankees are blaming the “Jet Stream” and how the homeruns will diminish once the REAL Yankee stadium get unceremoniously taken down.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:43 am
j reed try 9, 18 is the amount of times they play each other. and brian cbp is that bad i live in new york i know its very bad the worst in yankee stadium but cbp is a joke.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:45 am
brian of CO – also, i’ve never seen a broken bat homerun at CBP, i did see Texeira hit one against us in the new yankee stadium. Wasn’t there 7 hrs hit in one of those games we played there. It’s the Bizarro yankee stadium….or an X-File, like to see if there some kind of scientific explaination
July 18th, 2009 at 1:46 am
Still not as bad as Yankees Stadium. LOL. Whats next, you going to say the Phillies win so much because they hit homer all the time at CBP? LOL
July 18th, 2009 at 1:48 am
well with a park like that you are never out of game. just a bloop and a blast ( a popup to the outfield) away from getting back in it
July 18th, 2009 at 1:52 am
And with a ball park like that, the opposing team isnt out either. CBP has not been a home field advantage this year mets88, the Phillies are 22-23 at home and 28-15 on the road. And the Phillies have hit MORE homers AWAY from CBP than at home. Next question, why are you still on PHILLIESnation.com?
July 18th, 2009 at 1:53 am
mets88 – your right 9 games…still every team that plays there benefits from it and its not exactly a pinic for our pitchers and check your numbers you will see that many of our players hit just about as many hrs on the road…I mean Utley loves to hit in Citi field…
July 18th, 2009 at 1:54 am
j reed, dont point out facts, they dont like that is la la land.
July 18th, 2009 at 1:56 am
cuz im going to become a phillies fan now i hate the mets. all i do is crawl under a rock for 28 years then build a little league field and i come back to being a philly fan again
July 18th, 2009 at 1:58 am
still trying to use the “little league field” excuse huh? LOL. Like I said you dont like FACTS. Fact#1, Phillies hit MORE homers away from home. Fact #2, the Phillies won the World Series without home field advantage. Fact #3, Phillies look like crap at home fact #4, the “little leagues field” is an advantage to both team playing, not just the Phillies. DUH.
July 18th, 2009 at 2:02 am
lol relex or youll shoot in your pants. yea the rays were a pretty good team too. would have been swept by sox
July 18th, 2009 at 2:04 am
yeah grumpy- baseball people always have these pseudo scientific explanations of such phenomeon…something is rotten in denmark however, i just want to know what it is…I wonder, and they say its the same dimensions as old yankees stadium, if an outside party has actually measured the fences…maybe mlb has some type of architectural overseer that checks this stuff….maybe they pulled a nasa mars lander and forgot to convert units.
July 18th, 2009 at 2:05 am
LOL. right, keep telling yourself that. Try this next thing, maybe it will work. click your heels together and say “theres no place like home” maybe you can come back to the real world. LOL.
July 18th, 2009 at 2:09 am
good match-up sat. Verlander vs. C.C.
July 18th, 2009 at 2:11 am
wow didint know philly was the city of cornballs with these horrific jokes lol.
July 18th, 2009 at 2:12 am
Brian of CO- i know, we can petition the league to let the mets use aluminium bats and softball mitts for the rest of the season
July 18th, 2009 at 2:28 am
Well Castillo definately needs a bigger glove, and use two hands!
July 18th, 2009 at 2:29 am
speaking of “horrific jokes” the 4th and 5th place teams in the NL East. LOL
July 18th, 2009 at 3:52 am
Baseballbriefs.com tracking back Gameday: Phillies (49-38) At Marlins (46-45)…
Baseballbriefs.com tracking back Gameday: Phillies (49-38) At Marlins (46-45)…
July 18th, 2009 at 6:36 am
I think the big problem at the end of this game was having Bako in there and not Ruiz! Lidge will give up walks and give up hits, but Ruiz specializes in cleaning up a lot of the shit Lidge throws.
