After a nice win last night, what do I read here today? It boggles my mind sometimes to see such obnoxious drivel from a few negative whiners such as “Fatphillyfan” for one. They are to be ignored since they offer nothing in the way of constructive criticism.

For those who questioned the hitting coach, Milt Thompson’s ability, I thought I offer this little insight from him in regards to Rollin’s recent slump.

From New York Times:

“The Phillies’ hitting coach, Milt Thompson, saw progress Thursday night, when Rollins hit four ground balls, all hard, two for singles. Part of that success, Thompson speculated, stemmed from Rollins’s compliance in reverting to an old timing mechanism called a two-tap. Rollins employed it during his M.V.P. season, lifting his front foot, briefly stepping backward, and then striding forward as he swings. Many hitters use a similar technique to transfer their weight, but Rollins, a switch-hitter, exaggerates it when he hits left-handed: his right foot slides so far back that it touches his left.”

I know this is a waste because it is 11:30 am Just got up from my 7 hour drive after the game from VT to Bucks County to go to the game tonight. I
Like I say after a bad loss or two in a row, have a little patience, after a big win to stay calm. Mikemike has been an idiot for a week, I think we need to just ignore him.
Good game last night, no hits after Levan left bugs me alittle, not a lot,
JRoll has hit the ball hard as of late, even when they are not hits. It is up to Moyer tonight to hold these mets to 2 or 3 runs throu 6, the pen is pretty rested so it should be ok to pickup 3 innings today
We need this to be the start of something good, almost all the plate appearances over the last two games has been better, Howard is looking at pitches which is also good. Let’s go out and play phillies ball again today, I will see you at the game

Have to admit there are many here who more about the Phillies drafts that I do, though I believe the Phils did that this year with Kelly Dugan and the Gillick/Amaro front office seems to have been very aggressive finding guys after the first couple of rounds and paying over slot to get those prospects signed. There are so many guys in the draft with commitments to college or who expect to fall and plan on re-entering the draft I think it’s hard for teams to tell the wheat from the chaff.

The question as I saw it this off-season was having forfeited our first round pick for signing Ibanez and with a strong stable of major league calibre prospects, should the Phils gone after further type A free agents like the Yankees? That club totally abused the draft system and signed I believe it was 3 type A free agents that resulted in Toronto’s compensation for Burnett being a 3rd and not a 1st rounder AND they still had a first rounder as compensation for not signing a pick the year before. Think maybe the Phils might stand a lot to gain playing the rental market and allowing guys to walk and net the added draft picks to put together a really strong draft class.

Keep your eyes on a couple of international signees- We signed a Venezuelan lefty who’s throwing 86-88 aged 16 and a soon to be 17 year old who’s already hit 3 HR’s in 5 games in rookie ball.

Fun game last night. Beautiful weather, never any real threat from the Mets, packed house and a very pleasant experience all around. Unlike the last few games we’ve been to where the Phils couldn’t seem to be able to tie their own shoes. Here’s to hoping things are turning around for the Phils.

mikemike is completely kidding. NJ- a question. What would keep a team who wants a TYPE A free agent to say to themselves “OK, we sign this guy, we lose our first round pick. That next draft, we’ll just draft a real good high school player who says he’s committed to a school and sign him to a nice enough contract to get him to get started with the Phils.” I hear of lots of players who people say would have gone in the first round had they not already announced their plans to go to school. Also, of these players, I know more than one of them, each year, see the cash and take it. If I were a GM, I would target some of these players to draft if you can identify them. Thoughts?

Its only one game…the whole NL east is a mess…you can bet the W/S is not going thru the east this year…everyone thinks the Phillies are back not me they still stink up the joint real bad…get back to me when their winning 7 out of 10 or 16 of the next 20….I don’t see them winning more then 84 games…and no playoffs of course… Lidge should be traded and with Ibanez out ….Howard on his road to 200 S/O ’s again….Rollins hot for 2 games….no bullben…..Hamels well we’ll have to ask his wife on that..speaking of wives wonder how Meyers wife is doing …Romero should be traded as well….he’s a waste….Jamie is about a slow as batting practice how did they sign him….stupid Ruben Amaro….he should be “movin tommorrow”…get him out the there…..see ya at the game….we should get our heads handed to us today if the patterned plays out which it should….this is sub-pro ball we’re watching now.

NJ – no, he is not. All he is talking about is being out of it as sellers. He unrealistically wants to dump all of our payroll even though NO ONE would take 3-4 years of over 10 million. I am ignoring him like the Mets fans until we ARE out of it. No one in the NL East, except the Nats (God bless ‘em), is out of it. Not us, not the Mets, not the Fish, not the Braves. It is our fault, but it is what it is.
