Houston Astros (73-83) at Philadelphia Phillies (90-66)

Wilton Lopez, RHP (0-0, 8.44 ERA) vs. J.A Happ, LHP (11-4, 2.79 ERA)

Time: 7:05 p.m at Citizens Bank Park

The Houston Astros always seem to torture the Phillies in September, but don’t jump off the bandwagon yet!  The beauty of baseball is that there is always a tomorrow.  After a painful loss on Monday, the Phillies will try to rebound.

Last night, the Phillies struggled against Yorman Bazardo.  Once again, they’ll be seeing a new face.  Wilton Lopez is making his first major league start.  In 10.2 innings in relief, the rookie has struggled mightily.  He has allowed 20 hits and his ERA is over eight.  Over the course of the year, the Phillies’ bats have been silent against young pitchers that they’ve never faced before, even if they own high ERA’s.

J.A Happ will try to help his case for the 2009 Rookie of the Year Award.  The left-hander is seeking his twelfth win of the year.  Opponents have batted .236 against him this season.  Happ has been the stopper.  He is a perfect 7-0 after Phillies losses.

Charlie Manuel did most of the talking during a closed-door meeting this afternoon.  Hopefully that will pump up the team and get them back on the right track.  Manuel later said to the media: “Ever since I’ve been in baseball, I’ve been a fighter and I’ve come to whip your [butt] every day.”  So let’s whip some Astro-butt tonight.

Tonight’s lineup: Rollins (SS), Victorino (CF), Utley (2B), Howard (1B), Ibanez (LF), Werth (RF), Feliz (3B), Bako (C) and Happ (P).

STORM KING STOUT Your Gameday Beer – Storm King Stout
There’s a storm a brewin’ and only the Phillies will decide which way it blows. We’re staying local tonight with a full and flavorful stout from Victory Brewing Co. Dark and rich with roasted malts that do not overpower its Pacific Northwest hops, this beer is a lip smacker.a Storm King is best paired with the sweet taste of victory. – By Brian

I’m still driving the wagon but instead of a straight and narrow path to the finish it’s more like a stop and start with a lot of weaving…could be the alcohol, could be the Phillies play, could be the alcohol because of the Phillies play. Either way, I’m still driving the bus. Whose still on board with me?

  2. Harry Kalas Says:

What’s up EDR… I sent you an email… Again….Phillies Magic Number down to 1 after tonite!

  3. Andrew Says:

    I am over the flu.
Now the phils can make me sick all by themselves.
    This is a huge game.
Enough already lets see that you care. You have played crappy enough to make this game matter. I dont like how the phils are going into the playoffs but I am a believer.
I will monitor the twins tigers game since everyone else here will be monitoring the Braves
    On a positive note
Shut out inning by Lidge in the 9th last night! He is back!

  4. Harry Kalas Says:

Question Phillies Nation: Kevin Kolb hunts wild pigs with a knife and his dog? Is that cruelty to bacon?

  5. Ed R. Says:

Thanks H.K. I checked my email, got nothing.

    utleyscorner26@gmail.com

  6. Harry Kalas Says:

    Here we goboys and girls!

  7. ray Says:

    Woot Woot

  8. NJ Says:

HK- It is cruel to call a dog Bacon and the least Kolb can do with all of the money is hire someone to cook his dogs dinner instead of making him knaw on a raw pig carcus…

  9. Andrew Says:

    Lopez is dealing
never seen a team so oor against skell pitchers. You could never explain to me how every time a guy shows up with a 8.44 era he is going to get them out so easily.

  10. David M Says:

lets go offense. did you drink your coffee tonight? don’t be lazy like last night.

  11. NJ Says:

pitchers with a ridiculously bad ERA must love being matched up against the Phils

  12. Andrew Says:

    oh boy
    i tell you
    i am getting pissed.

  13. Andrew Says:

All i need is an error now to get pissed.
Really I know I am mr positive but hell
    throw to third there happ

  14. Ed R. Says:

I am sorry, I know that there was an open base and all and walking Towels certainly increases your chances of getting an out as there are more places to get an out. But why not pitch to a 108 hitter and let the pitcher lead off the next inning?

  15. ray Says:

uggla doubles with no outs top of the 2nd

  16. Harry Kalas Says:

Breathe Phillies Nation.. Yayyyyy for Happ. And a double yayyy for the ump! Thanks dude. Fish 1st/3rd no outs…

  17. ray Says:

ed after watching happ throw to 1st after an obvious easy throw to third i see a little tightness in this team, at least in happ, and it is just a matter of confidence and i guess they just figured they would go after the pitcher

  18. Andrew Says:

    Agree ED
I have seen this act too many tims. Go after the anemic hitting catcher.

  19. Harry Kalas Says:

    WTF Rauul!

  20. Harry Kalas Says:

    and the rest

  21. Jeff Says:

1 and 3rd marlins. now one out. darn….phillies cant hit

  22. ray Says:

    marlins 1-0

  23. Harry Kalas Says:

    1-0 Fish

  24. Jeff Says:

Johnson baby with a double. whooooo

  25. Jeff Says:

baker thrown out at home. darn. could of been 2-0

  26. Harry Kalas Says:

agreed Phils look tight. Happ had Bob’s Big Boy by a mile and a half..

  27. ray Says:

wheeler: milt is this the time of year where you want to be in this kind of situation?
Thompson: Oh no chris we as players would rather just be 20 games out and not have to worry about any pressure or playoff implications

  28. Wes Says:

    Crushed.

  29. Jeff Says:

this game is not going well

  30. Harry Kalas Says:

somebody had to score 1st. we’ll get that right back..

  31. Ed R. Says:

Don’t worry about that run. I’m thinking Utley will crank one.

  32. Jeff Says:

we dont look like a team going back to the world series

  33. karen Says:

what a game again………………………………come on, someone in a phillies uniform hit the ball

  34. Jeff Says:

    bunt him over happy

  35. Jeff Says:

that a boy happy. lets get that run back baby.

  36. Harry Kalas Says:

He shoots… He scores! Power Play Goal!

  37. Jeff Says:

    Good call harry k

  38. Andrew Says:

Teams that win the series have a swagger. The phillies had it big time last year and its so far from being here this year its sad.
The yankees have the swagger now but I guarentee you they lose it in round 1 or 2. So you can possibly gain or lose it in a short time period.
The cardinlas have it big time and I feel the winner of the braves/rockies battle will have it.
I am hoping we get it back in a weeks time.

  39. Harry Kalas Says:

    Thanks Jeff!

  40. Jeff Says:

Utley is just struggling. Got to get that guy home.

53 pitches in three innings for hudson.

  41. Harry Kalas Says:

I was hoping the Phils would’ve cashed in on EDR’s prediction as well. Utley’s got a more ab’s left yet though.. Phils LH need to stop trying to pull this guy. Jimmy went semi-opp field and look at what happened..

  42. Andrew Says:

Charles Hudson is back? Ironic its the day Jeremiah Trotter came out of the old folks home too.

  43. Harry Kalas Says:

    Utley is struggling big time…

  44. Jeff Says:

braves 1st and 2nd…double play. keep going big johnson.

  45. joedad Says:

    HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY

  46. Ed R. Says:

80 pitches through 4 for Happ.

  47. Jeff Says:

    maybe moyer in the 6th.

  48. Jeff Says:

    HOMERUN UGGGGGGYYYY

  49. Harry Kalas Says:

    Don’t tell me we signed Trot- omynee!-ter…. Who’s next…Seth Joyner… Let’s go O…

  50. Andrew Says:

This is lopezs first career start. Major or minor leagues.
Of course he will do well

  51. ray Says:

trot is 32 he just has 60 year old knees

  52. Jeff Says:

    UGGGGY BABBBY…2-0 MARLINS

  53. karen Says:

I must say that Howard is showing the desire to win. nice hustle

  54. Harry Kalas Says:

Rauul with a hit? I’m playing the lottery tomm. I give up… Where’s the Sarge “mute” button on my remote….

  55. Jeff Says:

Come on boys. get some runs. lets do this tonight.

  56. Andrew Says:

No to Joyner but frank Lemaster was in for a tryout.

  57. joedad Says:

Ed R, I’m on the wagon, since 1980. A little alcohol will help drive that bus

  58. mikeB Says:

I think that Utley has nothing left in the tank; physically exhausted. Consider that he was rehabbing that hip in spring training and partaking in spring training at the same time and probably rehabbed for a while after the season started in April possibly up until June. The team needs to get this thing clinched so they can give him and other members of this team some extended time off before the post season.

  59. Harry Kalas Says:

    ….

  60. joedad Says:

The entire team wants to win. No way are they going through the motions or coasting. They are streaky.

  61. joedad Says:

    Nice to hear the crowd

  62. Jeff Says:

bases loaded. no jinx here boys. come on.

  63. Harry Kalas Says:

    Oh shit!

  64. joedad Says:

    EL PEDRO BITCHES

  65. Andrew Says:

    there we go
    now dont blow this thing!
    suprise it was feliz

  68. Jeff Says:

JOEDAD, im pissing in my pants. i love that term. how big is that boys.

  69. Karen Says:

    Yes!!!!!!!

  70. Keith Says:

    alright Felizzzzzzz :D

  71. Fightin' in NY Says:

    PETE HAPPY!!!!!

  72. Harry Kalas Says:

EDR,I’m borrowing your line from Sunday. Please check my post from 6:55pm

  73. David M Says:

PEDROOOO!!!! YOU’RE MY HERO! FINALLY A CLUTCH PLAY!

  74. Ed R. Says:

    Well done H.K.

Fish are up 2-0, bottom 4.

  75. joedad Says:

Jeff, I stole from j reed who used it for El Bako Bitches when Bako blocked the plate and hit a HR. Gotta love it

  76. karen Says:

That was a great inning too because they did play small ball until feliz knocked them all in. love it

  77. Harry Kalas Says:

Damn…. Nats and Mets are now tied at 3-3…

  78. Andrew Says:

Tahst why its so hard to blow a big lead in baseball unless you are complete losers (the mets).
You are going to have games when you face a guy who has never made a start professionaly and you should shell him.
Now hold this. and get some runs if possible

  79. Fightin' in NY Says:

Problem is the ’stros have 15 outs left….

  80. Jeff Says:

2-1 now. braves scores. crap. just win our game

  81. ray Says:

If I were a Braves fan I’d be pissed that bourne isn’t playing he’s been a thorn in our side

  82. Ed R. Says:

So does that make it medium ball?

  83. Jeff Says:

crap over 90 pitches. that was a long battle my japenese non godzillia.

  84. Jeff Says:

we have to watch out this inning. happ is tiring.

  85. Andrew Says:

    catchers interference here we go

  86. Mostone Says:

OK – When do we get Chooch back?

  87. Terri Says:

ugh, why does this always happen

  88. Harry Kalas Says:

Nope N.Y. The problem is you’re too afraid…. Just relax and enjoy the Phillies Nation Party… And the Fish are still leading… Right? I know I’m bad at math… Someone help me out… It’s 5-2 now…so what..

  89. Jeff Says:

    yeppp.. this is not good.

  90. Ed R. Says:

    4-1 fish

  91. joedad Says:

    4-1 Fishies

  92. Andrew Says:

for those of you looking towards the world series
the tigers are beating the twins 4-0
Id rather face the tigers anyway so i am happy now

  93. ray Says:

that was a poop your pants moment. does everybody have their diapers on?

  94. Mostone Says:

    4 – 1 FLA!

  95. Keith Says:

    alright Marlins!

  96. Terri Says:

    4-1 Marlins

  97. Harry Kalas Says:

    4-1 Fish…It’s was just a big loud out #2

  98. DC Says:

Can someone tell me why the Phillies make Hunter Pence look like a superstar everytime he plays against us?

  99. ray Says:

Wow one night later and we have people looking towards the world series. Remember last night’s thread? lol

  100. Ed R. Says:

Solution…so too do the Phillies. And we are up 3.

  101. Jeff Says:

    4-1 marlins

  102. Harry Kalas Says:

    Got’em!

  103. joedad Says:

Ray, I am wearing support so no worries here:

    http://www.hulu.com/watch/10308/saturday-night-live-oops-i-crapped-my-pants

  104. DC Says:

    Sit down Keppinger!

  105. DC Says:

Definitely not looking towards the World Series. If our bullpen doesn’t get their heads out of their @$#%, we aren’t going to the playoffs. I hope Happ can get us through seven.

  106. Harry Kalas Says:

Come on D.C. Happ thru 7…Maybe next time…I’ll be surprised if he goes out for the 6th…

  107. Andrew Says:

Punter Hence is the new Terry Puhl.
I was 9 for Terry. I am scarred for life.

  108. Ed R. Says:

If our starters don’t start pitching well it won’t matter what our bullpen does.

  109. joedad Says:

I think Happ is done for the night

  110. ray Says:

i can’t get that up right now joedad i’ll check it later, but i think i know what it is…lol

  111. cas Says:

I’m afraid I’ll jinx it, but is it possible we can start to breathe again?

  112. Harry Kalas Says:

Another brain freeze for Chuckie…. Three straight LH. I know Werth is struggling, but come on dude..

  113. GWFightinsFan Says:

This should be interesting…hope the bullpen doesn’t blow it

  114. joedad Says:

cas, no time to breathe, just send the positive vibes to the Marlins

  115. joedad Says:

    J Werth baby

  116. Harry Kalas Says:

    I’m on the fly again!

  117. Brian Michael Says:

    Keep it up!

  118. Ed R. Says:

    He heard you H.K.

    He heard you.

  119. Fightin' in NY Says:

Keep pouring it on, before the bullpen door opens…

  120. joedad Says:

Card losing 7-1 in the 6th

  121. Terri Says:

    braves have the bases loaded

  122. Harry Kalas Says:

Braves got something cooking down in the dirty… bases loaded 2/outs….

  123. Keith Says:

Braves have bases loaded 2 outs

  124. Colorado Joe Says:

Hopefully tonight’s workman like start by Happ in which he has struggled but not been burned will start to turn around the starting rotation. I hope the Astros decide to mail it in for the rest of the night down by 5. I doubt it but it would be nice for a team that is out of the race to give up once in awhile rather than treat it like their World Series.

  125. Andrew Says:

So if things hold a win tomorrow clinches
Please dont over celebrate like the yankees and angels did. this isnt our goal.

I think they are building the bridge to lidge tonight. Hope hes in for the 9th if the phils are up 7 or more. I have faith.

  126. Terri Says:

Josh Johnson got out of the inning

  127. joedad Says:

McCann took it in the can

  128. Harry Kalas Says:

the threat has been secured…. 4-1 through 5…

  129. Colorado Joe Says:

Brian Mc Cann huge pop up with a 3-1 count and the bases loaded. Whew!

  130. Andrew Says:

I dont see how Happ isnt game 1 starter. What has hamels done in 2009 to earn it? Lee needs to step up in his next start to earn it.

  131. Ed R. Says:

    4-1 Fish through 5.

  132. ray Says:

    disaster averted in atlanta

  133. joedad Says:

Dang it, I meant to say McCann took in the can :

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBBcZjxd-bk

  134. Terri Says:

    no lead is safe

  135. Andrew Says:

    jesus
how many pitches tongiht for happ?

kaz matsui the curse of the mets

  136. Harry Kalas Says:

Reality check….We’ll still win… But the fun is gone…

  137. Mostone Says:

Oh well… at least the Phils are scoring tonight.

  138. ray Says:

i have more confidence in jamie lately, he’s been doing well coming in for long relief. 4 runs in 5 and a third from happ isn’t all that great but he got out of some jams that could’ve made this ugly.

  139. GWFightinsFan Says:

    Ohh boy here we go…

  140. Andrew Says:

Harry ask richie what he thinks.

  141. Ed R. Says:

Once again, when your bullpen is bad your starters have to be left in for way longer than they should be.

    Just fantastic.

  142. Andrew Says:

my playoff rotation game 1 happ game 2 moyer game 3 fat joe game 4 lee

  143. Manny Says:

Charlie left Happ longer than he should… Happ did a good job but he was done after the 5th… and now it’s a 3-run game… plus, with a tight strike zone, who knows how that’ll go with Jamie on the mound now.

  144. Keith Says:

not a fan of that playoff rotation

  145. DC Says:

No lead is safe for the Phils. This is the difference between last year and this year. Why the f— does this team have so many problems playing the Astros? The haunting of Ed Wade? WTF? Win already and clinch! Quit talking about the playoffs everyone. If the Phils don’t get their heads out of their asses, we won’t be in the playoffs! Hold the damn lead for once!

  146. joedad Says:

Anyone up for an appearance by Tyler Walker tonight?

  147. DC Says:

Big surprise. The Phils make Kaz Matsui look like an all-star

  148. Harry Kalas Says:

    Keep scoring Boys…

  149. ray Says:

here’s a guy with a 15 era so he should easily shut down our offense

  150. joedad Says:

Wow, look at this guy’s stats, holy Adam Eaton ERA squared

  151. Whitey Says:

    It smells like rain….

  152. Manny Says:

    Paul Bako can hit!!

  153. Keith Says:

    Braves have another rally going

  154. Terri Says:

    Braves just tied the game

  155. Manny Says:

I just change the channel to check the Braves Fish game and freaking Matt Diaz hits a 3-run shot to tie it.. ugh

  156. DC Says:

Braves tied it up. Nothing is going the Phillies way

  157. GWFightinsFan Says:

    braves just tied the score…

  158. Jeff Says:

Charlie should of had Happ out of that inning. 116

  159. Harry Kalas Says:

    Wow! It’s 0-0 in Atlanta… Fish still win though…

  160. Ed R. Says:

    Mother f’ing Marlins blew it.

  161. joedad Says:

DC, how about the Phils winning the game going the Phils way?

  162. Harry Kalas Says:

    You’re right Jeff…

  163. GWFightinsFan Says:

Even more important that the phillies win…

  164. joedad Says:

Did you see how many empty seats there were in Atlanta? What a bunch of frontrunners

  165. Andrew Says:

    tigers 5 twins 2

  166. ray Says:

joedad i noticed that early and you hit it right on the head. we were packing in them in down the stretch the last two years

  167. DC Says:

Pence and Matsui. Phils make them look like all-stars.. WTF!

  168. Manny Says:

Seriously, the Braves should be selling out every single game this week… but oh well, that’s not our problem…

    LETS GO PHILS!

  169. ray Says:

poop in your pants and jamie’s hurt

  170. Mostone Says:

Oh shit – what happened to Jamie?

  171. Terri Says:

oh goodness jamie is hurt and it does not look good

  172. joedad Says:

Another Oops I Pooped My Pants Moment

  173. ray Says:

that was probably his last pitch of the year folks, but he did a helluva job

  174. Jeff Says:

wow. my heart stopped. thank god vic. moyer hurt.

  175. Harry Kalas Says:

    God Bless you Jamie Moyer!

  176. GWFightinsFan Says:

    Moyer got hurt, wonderful….

  177. Andrew Says:

    No more Moyer
    You should all be happy
    haters

  178. ray Says:

i thought jamie when down and put his head down because he though the had given up a home run

  179. cas Says:

Oh great…all we need is another relief pitcher hurt. Hope the Marlins can pull out their game.

  180. Andrew Says:

Braves fans suck the only team in our division wih a fan base of any real note is the mets fans and they are all from the short bus.

  181. Karen Says:

Geez, I really hope Jamie is okay.

  182. joedad Says:

HK, I agree. Braves lose tonight and/or tomorrow

  183. Jeff Says:

marlins man on third 1 out.

  184. Manny Says:

    Madson, then Lidge…. ?

  185. Jamie Moyer Says:

All, just wanted to let you all know I am really OK. I am faking my injury because I am a stand up guy and want to make the playoff off roster decision easy for my manager.

  186. Harry Kalas Says:

Is this game at the Vet…

  187. Andrew Says:

    Something is haunting the mound
    whats going?

  188. mikeB Says:

    The pitching moind is cursed.

  189. Keith Says:

    Marlins go back ahead!

  190. Terri Says:

    Marlins score!

  191. joedad Says:

I think Parranto crapped his pants when he saw Howard’s swing and pretended he was hurt

  192. Jeff Says:

    Marlins up 1 baby

  193. Harry Kalas Says:

    5-4…South Beach!

  194. Andrew Says:

    jamie
Jamie really is a good guy. If its a seriosu injury this isnt in good taste. Its what gives te on lne community an over all bad reputation

  195. Jeff Says:

uggy up with 2 down and 2nd and 3rd

  196. Harry Kalas Says:

Shame on the Jamie imposter. The whitey line was me, but not the one on Jamie…

  197. Tom McCarthy Says:

    I’m a douche.

  198. Jeff Says:

bases loaded for baker the candle stick maker.

  199. ray Says:

the online community a bad reputation?

  200. Harry Kalas Says:

Brew Crew up 2-1.. Hey, I just wanna get in…by any means necc….

  201. joedad Says:

I just realized I haven’t heard much McCarthy or Wheels bashing lately. That shows you the Phils have been playing poorly.

  202. Andrew Says:

Yes it rivals the phillies bull pens reputation.

  203. Brian Says:

I’m the Jamie imposter. I wasn’t trying to be negative. My first thought when I saw that was: “Jamie knows he is on the bubble for the playoff roster and recognizes he’d be the 4th lefty out of the pen. He knows Charlie is a players manager and would likely put him on the roster even at the cost of someone who might be able to contribute more. He might be embelishing the injury to help make Charlie’s decision easier.” It was meant as a compliment to Jamie. I love the guy and was cheering like crazy when he went out last year after Game 5 and dug the rubber out of the ground. Shame on you.

  204. joedad Says:

    Cardinals lose again.

  205. chris wheeler Says:

I’m a midget of a troll with a red face and beady little eyes

  206. Ed R. Says:

I swear to God, if Charlie brings in Lidge, even with a 3 run lead I am going to blow my cool.

Lidge threw one decent inning in the last month, that does not mean that Lidge is all better now.

  207. ray Says:

brian jamie was actually playing well and i doubt he thought he was trying to make charlie’s job any easier…shame on you

  208. Harry Kalas Says:

Does this mean J-Roll in the 9th?

  209. Ian Says:

Madson for 9th? Top of order for Astros

  210. Harry Kalas Says:

It’s all good Brian… I’ve made jokes on here that were a lot worse….

  211. cas Says:

Getting down to crunch time here….great job, Madson. Fish still ahead 5-4 in the bottom of the 7th, Braves have 2 out and no one on.

  212. joedad Says:

    Say it aint Lidge.

  213. Andrew Says:

Didnt moyer let you try on his world series ring too?
    Shame shame shame

I wouldnt kmind moyer on the roster. Certainly before Lidge

  214. ray Says:

what i mean is, jamie was pissed when he got demoted. he’s such a competitor and he always wants to battle. doubt if he was embellishing an injury to keep himself off the playoff roster to make charlie’s job easier, if anything he wants to prove for the 30th time that he’s not done

  215. Brian Says:

I never said he wasn’t playing well. In fact, I am not even saying that’s what he did, but Jamie is a stand up guy and wouldn’t suprise me if that is what he did. Essentially putting the team above him. Shame on you.

The problem with the online community is people skim what is posted and reply with knee-jerk reactions instead of thinking about the point the other person is trying to make. Shame on you again.

  216. Harry Kalas Says:

Lidge is warmimg up…. Wow! Now I see the funny side. Again!

  217. Andrew Says:

    OH MY GOD
    SCORE MORE PLEASE

THE ARSONIST IS UP IN THE PEN

YES THIS IS INTENTIONAL CAPS LOCK

    HOLY COW

  218. ray Says:

omg tell me i was hallucinating and i didn’t see lidge. tell me someone spiked my snapple with acid. please please please

  219. Harry Kalas Says:

    Is that Plaxico?

  220. jt Says:

Who pitching the 9th?please no lidge.

  221. Andrew Says:

    Shame shame shame
This is all your fault. If lidge blows this brian did it.

    shameful

  222. Ed R. Says:

Is Charlie for real? Seriously? Can he just not accept that Lidge does not have it this year? I would love to have been a fly on the wall during the team meeting.

“You guys are playing tight. You gotta go to the mountain, it doesn’t come to you. Unless you’re Brad Lidge. And then I bring the mountain to you.”

Give me a break Charlie. Madson threw 9 pitches. He is good to go back out.

If Lidge goes out there I take him out the second someone gets on base.

  223. ray Says:

thinking that jamie is a stand up guy for faking an injury is kind of weird but ok.
also suggesting that he did it to make charlie’s playoff roster decisions easier is kind of weird too but ok

  224. DC Says:

Insurance runs would be nice. Oh wait…phils forgot how to get those. They get all the runs in one inning and then put the bats to bed.

  225. Ed R. Says:

WTF is an ultimate defense? Is Wheels on drugs? SHould he be?

  226. DC Says:

I’m a Phils fan, but I have little faith that this time will go anywhere in the playoffs. I really hope I am wrong.

  227. Brian Says:

For the record, I like Moyer, and I think he pitches well, but only when he gets an ump who isn’t squeezing the zone. Unless Eyre and Romero (and maybe Myers and Park) all are not good for NLDS, he doesn’t get a spot. His soft stuff may trip people up in the lazy, hot summer days, but his stuff isn’t fooling anyone in the playoffs. Look at his lines from last year. And please don’t give me the “look at Game 3″ crap. That game started after 10pm EST and he got an ump with a wide zone that night. Half his strikes were balls any other night. Not knocking him, but he doesn’t get a spot if I am the manager, but I certainly appreciate the effort he has given.

  228. Georgie Says:

Man, this pitcher is one strange dude.

  229. Andrew Says:

Ray he is joking like i am 90% of the time

Didnt Madson come in the 7th?
no wa a 2 plus inning save is in line

so it isnt wrong to take out Madson imo

bringing in lidge is disaster unless its a very tight leash liek 1 hiter on your out

  230. ray Says:

joedad it’s POOP IN YOUR PANTS TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  231. DC Says:

Here we go. Time to put in lidge to blow the game. If he even puts one batter on base. Charlie better take him out!

  232. Whizwithout Says:

why do we get the majority of runs in only one inning these days n have trouble scoring at the end of the game?!

  233. Harry Kalas Says:

The bong is locked and loaded….

  234. joedad Says:

    ’s all good Brian.

  235. ray Says:

    oooo hot girls

  236. Ed R. Says:

    hits from the bong

  237. Edheck Says:

The pitcher that snapped his neck was mike fetters. I cannot beleive trivia boy wheels did have that one. Thank god no lidge!

  238. Andrew Says:

is mainlining the bong water cool if this is blown?

  239. Terri Says:

    here we go

  240. Short Jim Hoffmann Says:

I am brown capping right now, hoping the Phils win this one.

  241. DC Says:

Okay Madson please don’t hang any pitches.

  242. Karen Says:

Lidge needs to stay in the bullpen

  243. Tom McCarthy Says:

Can you imagine me calling the final out of a World Series game? Yeah, me neither.

  244. DC Says:

Well that didn’t take long. Oh big surprise. We made Kaz Matsui look like an MVP again.

  245. joedad Says:

LOL, ray, it is only turtle time

  246. ray Says:

don’t put the tying run on base

  247. Harry Kalas Says:

    puff, puff…..?

  248. Andrew Says:

ever noticed regardless of who the pitcher is in the 9th inning everything ginds a hole. thats for the whoel season

  249. DC Says:

Oh Madson brings the tying run to the plate. Our bullpen sucks.

  250. Karen Says:

Why all this stress. Come on astros, just give the season up

  251. DC Says:

Madson is about to blow his seventh save. I can’t take this crap anymore

  252. Manny Says:

C’mon Mad Doggg you got this!!!!!

  253. Karen Says:

Come on!!!!!! No lidge, please no lidge

  254. DC Says:

    HOLD THE DAMN LEAD!

  255. Manny Says:

    BEAUTIFUL K!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  256. Harry Kalas Says:

    Roast Beef Sanwich!

  257. Ed R. Says:

thats why all the stress, the stros didn’t give up the season. Nor should they.

  258. ray Says:

we need one more here and six more in atlanta

  259. Ed R. Says:

    pass

  260. Brian Says:

Big K. Nice setup from Bako.

I cannot believe Hunter Pence is a major league baseball player. He blows, but somehow plays well against the Phils.

  261. Karen Says:

    1 more strike

  262. DC Says:

Hunter Pence…the Phillie Killer. The other guy the Phils make look like the MVP

  263. Mostone Says:

    MAGIC NUMBER…2!!

  264. Harry Kalas Says:

    Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Sweet!

  265. Terri Says:

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

  266. Ed R. Says:

    DEUCE!!!!!!!!!!

  267. joedad Says:

    No dote aboat it

  268. Manny Says:

LADIES AND GENTLEMAN: HERE’S OUR NEW CLOSER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    HERE WE GO!!!!!!!

  269. Brian Says:

Told you he blows. Wait to close it out until Saturday afternoon so I can be there.

  270. DC Says:

    ITS ABOUT FRIGGIN TIME.

  271. Karen Says:

    Yes:).We can breathe now

  272. Andrew Says:

oh well braves lose and we clinch a tie for the division
    5-4 marlins 2 out bottom of 8th

  273. Ed R. Says:

4 more to go in notlanta…

  274. ray Says:

braves 2 outs in the bottom of the eighth

  275. Tom McCarthy Says:

Let’s send it down for another insightful interview from Sarge.

  276. DC Says:

The fact that we gave up 11 hits and still won..???? This team needs to recharge if we make the playoffs. Its been an awful September.

  277. Harry Kalas Says:

Sat? Phils clinch tomm nite folks….

  278. mikeB Says:

Vote for Pedro for the Ashburn!

  279. Griffin Says:

Who would have thought that the effective 8th inning guy can pitch in the 9th inning?

Props to Chollie for finally getting this right. Nice win, and the Cards lost as well, so maybe the Phils can have home field advantage in the first round afterall.

  280. Keith Says:

    Phillies win! :D

  281. joedad Says:

Won’t be Saturday Brian. Have fun anyway.

  282. ray Says:

3 more outs for atlanta….not getting no pop ins from braves fans or spankee yankee tonight

  283. Andrew Says:

I hope tey dont over celebrate when they clinch tomorrow
Brian of Co I guess they didnt manage to choke it away. I told you it was impossible.

I do not like the phils chances in the playoffs right now though to tell the truth.

  284. Brian Says:

Happ has a 1.20 WHIP…8-10 hits were expected.

  285. ray Says:

if we win it tomorrow, can we rest guys or are we still going after the dodgers?

  286. Phan in TN Says:

    that was a good win

  287. joedad Says:

I guess they will show the bottom of the 9th of the Marlins game on MLB network

  288. karen Says:

I think they should give the regulars time off but still play them somewhat…….but let jimmy, chase, etc have some time off.

  289. AC from NJ Says:

    Let’s go Marlins!

  290. Terri Says:

They have the marlins/braves on the MLB Network

  291. ray Says:

    woowwowowowowowowooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  292. joedad Says:

Buh bye now Braves. Buh bye now.

  293. Terri Says:

    BRAVES LOSE!

  294. AC from NJ Says:

Magic Number is 1!!! Tomorrow is the CLINCHER!

  295. Dave Says:

What a difference a day makes!

  296. Dkline Says:

One is the loneliest number if you are a Brave *buh dum dum dum dum*

  297. ray Says:

last night people had the braves winning out and the phillies losing out.

  298. Jeff Says:

    1 GAME BABBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBY

  299. joedad Says:

ray, lots of pants pooping yesterday, they realized it was just gas today

  300. Jeff Says:

Im so tired. Long day at work now this. Time for NCIS LA and Melrose. Yes the girls are hot. Night everyone.

  301. jt Says:

now down to 1 guy whew hopefully their fired up and ready get it done tomorrow that astros team is tough their playing like their fighting for a playoff spot btw I seen lidge was warming up I think charlie just did that to punk us.

  302. Terry Says:

So technically the Phillies will be in the playoffs since if they lose out and the Braves win out there will be a one game playoff. lol

  303. Harry Kalas Says:

    Terry….. That’s what bongs are for………

  304. ray Says:

the phillies weren’t collasping they were playing average while the braves were red hot. think about it, the braves just went 15-3 and they are still 5 games back and one game away from being eliminated from the division. the mets we are not

  305. Mike D. Says:

Still breathing, somehow, even though it took me 20 minutes to scrape my fingers off the steering wheel after listening to the game on the drive home.

To those idiots who were calling for Charlie’s head, his speech before the game PROVES just how much an effect he has on this team. We would most certainly lose if he were fired.

Now we just gotta win one more, boys. Come on, Phils, COME ON!

  306. Harry Kalas Says:

A little bit there ray…. You know with the dropped pop-ups and the blown-saves and all….But that’s why you get that cushion…The Phillies are the best team in the division…The big lead afforded us this slip up… We will clinch tomm. I rather it be by us winning the game….Tomm is just another Phillies Div Clinching Party…. With the Min-fro as the MC… Charlie needs to get this BP/rotation in order…it’s all over the damn place…
