Phillies Nation Trivia
Posted by Brian Michael, Mon, September 14, 2009 10:40 AM
In case anyone missed the trivia question from this weekend, I’m reposting it today to give you a chance to win. Get your answers in before the next Phillies game!

Phillies Nation trivia is back! Some might say it never left, but for most this will be your first ride.
It’s very simple, if you think you know the answer to the question below, fill out the form. A random person with the correct answer will be selected to win this cool Phillies keychain. (Selecting a random winner is really our only guard against cheating, that and plea to not cheat – so please don’t do it!)
A shout-out goes to Lou Orlando, author of The Ultimate Phillies Trivia Quiz from which we pulled this head-scratcher. With the Phillies’ recent struggles with runners in scoring position, I thought this one was appropriate:
Who is the last Phillie to knock in over 100 runs without hitting twenty home runs?

First inkling was Von Hays, but I went with the legendary Glenn Wilson who burned out way too early.
September 12th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
Holy crap, I had to look that one up.
Tough question.
September 12th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
I was just talking about this person as someone who had a great average with RISP but didn’t have much else going for him.
September 13th, 2009 at 4:04 am
I took a stab at it and said Rico Brogna
September 14th, 2009 at 12:23 pm
I know the answer but I won’t spoil the fun for others with the trivia question. I will give a clue however. Think of the “deadball era”.
September 14th, 2009 at 12:32 pm
I didn’t have to look it up, it’s a insanely easy question. I knew it right away when I read it. I mean think about it, who drives in a ton of runs without HRs? It’s not that difficult. I think ya’ll are confused. It says the LAST Phillie to do it, not the first Phillie to ever do it. Meaning the answer would be one of the current Phillies players. If that’s not a big enough hint I don’t know what is.
September 14th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
The question asked .. to name the last player AS a Phillie to accomplish that feat. He is NOT on the current roster.
September 14th, 2009 at 12:53 pm
“Who is the last Phillie to knock in over 100 runs without hitting twenty home runs?”
Where do you see it say that at? I don’t see it say anywhere “as a Phillie” I just see it asking the last Phillie to do it. Meaning when was the last time it was done and by who? Meaning it would be recent. Why are you trying to invent your own question? It’s just going to confuse people.
September 14th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
It’s a matter of interpretation. Perhaps the confusion lies with the question.
Again I see the question as the “last Phillie” meaning a player who played for the team when he accomplished the feat. OK?
September 14th, 2009 at 1:10 pm
Okay, the question could obviously be made more clear by the person asking. There is a lot of ways the question can be confused. The first way, is the way you read the question. The second one, is people may want to know if the question is just speaking runs, or runs batted in. Which are two entirely different things. I know the answer to both (and no, I didn’t cheat) because both came in my lifetime, so I submitted both answers just to make sure I had the one they were asking for.
September 14th, 2009 at 1:42 pm
I had to look it up and therefore won’t be submitting it but to be honest I consider myself a pretty hardcore Phillies fan and I have NEVER even heard of this guy before.
September 14th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
Bruce’s interpretation is correct, though I can see the question being unclear.
September 14th, 2009 at 3:51 pm
Tough question…
September 14th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Tough…but I think I got it…only because a friend and I were digging through Phillies stats from the time we grew up recently. This one stuck out.
