Myers added to roster; Cairo left off
Posted by Amanda Orr, Tue, October 27, 2009 03:45 PM
Leslie Gudel of Comcast Sportsnet reports (via Twitter) that Brett Myers has been added to the World Series roster. The Phillies opted to go with 12 pitchers, leaving Miguel Cairo, a former Yankee, off the roster.
Myers, who was left off the National League Championship roster, made progress from a strained muscle. Ruben Amaro Jr. said that Myers “looked sharper.” Cairo went 0-for-5 during the playoffs this year.
In Yankees news, Eric Hinske has been added to the roster. Remember him?

Good move… I think.
October 27th, 2009 at 3:53 pm
I think the better move is adding Hinske to the Yankees roster so he can repeat striking out against a nasty Lidge slider…
October 27th, 2009 at 4:06 pm
But hopefully not hit a home run off of Blanton.
I like Myers being added. He was clutch last year and has a mean streak to him that I think will help us gain the mental again against NY.
October 27th, 2009 at 4:07 pm
Again should be edge.
October 27th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
Reports are that he his breaking ball has its bite back… if he is on the mend, this is a huge addition.

Eric Hinske……….”Swing and a miss. Struck him out. The Philadelphia Phillies are 2008 World Champions of Baseballlllllllll”
October 27th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
I like this move as well.
October 27th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
Good! Hopefully he can help us!
October 27th, 2009 at 5:26 pm
I’ve got it. Myers was brought on to pinch hit in hopes he can work another 9-pitch walk against CC.
Actually, I’m pretty surprised by this move. I didn’t think the Phils would give up another bat (OK, it’s Cairo, but you get my point) with the DH in play, possibly in four games. Hopefully Myers will do something to earn his keep — and maybe his wife will actually kiss him this time.
October 27th, 2009 at 5:29 pm
They’re showing one of our May games against the Yankees right now on MLB Network. CC pitching… Shane just got a single in the top of the 8th.

myers has pitched well against the yanks the few times he has had the opportunity
October 27th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
The fact that they added an experienced pitcher like Myers to the pen, and also left Bastardo on the roster… COULD mean that Charlie may be thinking seriously about starting Happ in Game 4.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
The Phillies MUST MUST MUST win one in NY. Wouldn’t the first game victory be sweet.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
I hope Bruntlett being selected over Miguel Cairo is the best choice. I understand Bruntlett being selected because of his versatility on defense but Cairo is capably better offensively. Bako stays on because of being the backup catcher. I have a feeling that Myers will come up big at least once in the series.

Eric Hinske! Irony can be pretty ironic sometimes!
GO PHILS!!!
