World Series Gameday: Yankees at Phillies, Game 3
Posted by Amanda Orr, Sat, October 31, 2009 06:55 PM
New York Yankees (1-1) at Philadelphia Phillies (1-1)
Andy Pettitte, LHP vs. Cole Hamels, LHP
Time: 7:57 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Few Showers, 69 degrees
TV: FOX
Twitter: Phillies Nation
When asked if this year felt “more like a World Series” compared to last year’s, Jimmy Rollins responded: “when we get to Philly, it will.” The Fall Classic moves to the city of brotherly love with the series split at a game apiece. The Phillies are 11-1 at home in the postseason since 2008. “It makes it a lot more fun, because you know they’re your fans, and you know how that sound can echo off your ears when they’re not your fans,” Rollins said.
Cole Hamels starts defending his World Series MVP award tonight, but he isn’t going to win back-to-back MVPs unless he has an outstanding start tonight. His 2008 postseason heroics are almost forgotten with his 1-1, 6.75 ERA during this year’s playoffs. Cole has allowed 20 hits in 14.1 innings, but has only allowed two walks. Not only does he need to limit the hits, but Hamels needs to keep the ball in the yard. In his career against the Yankees, Hamels is 0-1 with a 2.77 ERA.
Hamels will be opposed by Andy Pettitte, the all-time leader in postseason wins and career pickoffs. Pettitte is a finesse pitcher, not overpowering; however, he has stretches where he lacks command. In all of his starts this postseason, the lefty lasted 6.1 innings and did not allowed more than three runs. In May, Pettitte allowed four runs over seven innings against the Phillies. He hasn’t pitched at Citizens Bank Park since 2006.
On Thursday, A.J Burnett was magnificent, and there wasn’t much that the Phillies could do. Today, the right-handed bats will need to step it up, as Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, and Raul Ibanez are a combined 8-for-37 against Pettitte.
Phillies lineup: Rollins (SS), Victorino (CF), Utley (2B), Howard (1B), Werth (RF), Ibanez (LF), Feliz (3B), Ruiz (C), Hamels (P).
Greg Dobbs is available after recovering from the flu.
Yankees Lineup: Jeter (SS), Damon (LF), Teixeira (1B), A-Rod (3B), Posada (C), Cano (2B), Swisher (RF), Cabrera (CF), Pettitte (P).
No DH tonight, Yankees.
Your Gameday Beer – Imperial Chocolate Pumpkin Porter
On a night like tonight, this is the beer you need. Brewed by Midnight Sun Brewing out of Alaska, this thick dark beer pours like melted chocolate. However neither the chocolate nor pumpkin flavors are overwhelming. The scents of molasses, gingerbread, and roasted malts help to polish this brew into something delicious. It goes well with BBQ, but tonight have it alongside the candy intended for trick-or-treaters. – By Brian

Good luck boys.
I was watching some talking head call the old man stupid for starting Blanton game 4. Maybe the old man who won the series last year knows his team better than you?
The media is for the most part morons. I love Blanton in game 4 and Lee game 5.
Tonight is Coles chance to atone for a subpar reg and psot season.
Go phils!
October 31st, 2009 at 7:09 pm
“Greg Dobbs is available”
So can we please pinch hit for Feliz in a big spot tonight?
October 31st, 2009 at 7:21 pm
I too love Blanton in game 4 – Let’s go Phils!
October 31st, 2009 at 7:37 pm
I was just on my way out to Chickies and Petes. Bleeping Rain Delay. I like Blanton in Game 4. He can bust Jeter/A-Rod inside with his 90+ mph fast ball. Happ only has one pitch. Let’s knock around HGH Andy. See ya!
October 31st, 2009 at 7:40 pm
Last thin… C.C. will pitch Game 4.
October 31st, 2009 at 7:42 pm
what will be the chants for the yankees players by the fans.
October 31st, 2009 at 7:43 pm

I’m expecting our offense to get some big hits tonight!
And I hope there are no long rain delays this time…
October 31st, 2009 at 7:55 pm
Aaaaa-rooooid
Mister Hudson (Aroid)
HGH (Pettitte)
Cheeeeeeterrrrrr( Arod and Pettitte)
Chunky Monkey (Swisher)
Moobs (Man Books – Cabrera)
October 31st, 2009 at 7:55 pm
enough about the roid use, at least on here I think the chants will be loud. On to the game. Rain delay now but looks like it will start after 8pm.
I too like Blanton, Lee on full rest on Monday when I will be there.
IMO the bets have to step up this game and score some runs for Cole. Cole needs to and will step up. It is time to be loud and proud and rock the Yanks out of the Bank.
The odd number games are the biggest games, lets get up 2-1. One game, one out at a time.
GO PHILLIES
October 31st, 2009 at 7:55 pm
Selig and MLB must hate World Series games in Philadelphia, haha. Hey, Bud, the rain isn’t our fault. It’s Game 3 of the World Series and October 31 in the Northeast. Move up the season or shorten the season! Let’s go Phillies, leave no doubt.
October 31st, 2009 at 8:13 pm

Lets get this party started, I have to be at work at 7 am then drive down for game five from Vermont.
October 31st, 2009 at 8:17 pm
someone should do something on the paintings that A-Rod has over his bed depicting him as a centaur, the half-man, half horse of Greek myth …that a goldmine that knows no end.
October 31st, 2009 at 8:18 pm
You are such the man joedad how can I be as cool as you.
GO PHILLIES
October 31st, 2009 at 8:21 pm
I agree with j-reed. Anyone that is that full of themselves should be getting absolutely ripped by the rest of us normal folk. It is just so easy to dislike A-Roids.
October 31st, 2009 at 8:24 pm
roids roids roids roids roids roids roids roids roids
he took the damn things….why the frig do you care???
October 31st, 2009 at 8:26 pm
lol, im bored shag, need to entertain myself somehow. NO WAY can anyone learn how to be cool.
jreed, are you serious about the painting?
October 31st, 2009 at 8:29 pm
It’s creepy how similar this whole situation is to Game 3 of last year’s WS.
October 31st, 2009 at 8:31 pm
yes he is serious.
October 31st, 2009 at 8:33 pm
Yea I feel you Joedad, this f’in rain down there has to stop lets get this game going.
What do you all think the time limit is on starting this thing, 9 33pm or will they wait longer
October 31st, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Joedad- as reported in today’s enquirer in the Sat. Entertainment section. This is according to an anon former lover of his in an US WEEKLY interview as an example of A-Rod’s vanity. I tend to believe it because it’s so ridiculous, I can’t see someone making it up.
October 31st, 2009 at 8:43 pm
rain go away pleassssssssssssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
October 31st, 2009 at 8:44 pm
that is incredible but difficult to believe a jilted former lover.
What happens if this is a rainout. Will ticket holders have tix for Tuesday night or is eveything pushed back a day?
October 31st, 2009 at 8:54 pm
Im praying this game gets rained out. Hamels on sunday, lee on monday. oh babbbby. 4 days rest.
October 31st, 2009 at 8:55 pm
9:15 start
October 31st, 2009 at 8:56 pm
That’s when it’s supposed to stop raining… nice.
October 31st, 2009 at 8:57 pm
That’s a good point Jeff… but I really want CC to pitch on 3-days rest… cause I think that’s when we’re gonna really get to him.
October 31st, 2009 at 9:01 pm
Joedad – that’s the point i was making…not even a jilted lover could come up with something so weird
October 31st, 2009 at 9:04 pm
Didn’t you guys see the picture of A-Rod kissing his reflection in a mirror while at the gym? The guy is totally in love with himself. A centaur picture of him above his bed is not the most ridiculous thing ever given everything we know, or is reported to be fact that is.
October 31st, 2009 at 9:06 pm
What a great job by the cast of Glee singing the anthem! Wow… amazing.
October 31st, 2009 at 9:09 pm
I agree Manny, I was skeptical at first but they did a fantastic job.
October 31st, 2009 at 9:10 pm
OK LET’S GO PHILLIES FIRST PITCH 9:15
5 minuts until we get this party started, and the phils lite up the Yankees, score early and often is the key. And Cole shutting this Yankee line up down. Please
October 31st, 2009 at 9:14 pm
I guess this late start pretty much ruins my halloween night… but whatever… as long as I can watch the phillies beat the yankees I’m good.
October 31st, 2009 at 9:15 pm
Apparently, the Anthem is very hard to sing….once they got their voices over the instruments they did a great job…hit every note
October 31st, 2009 at 9:15 pm
Nice pregame conversation here. (sarcasm) Much better than The Cleveland Show.
October 31st, 2009 at 9:16 pm
Alright Hamels pump that fastball up…
October 31st, 2009 at 9:17 pm
LET’S GO COLE! LET’S GO PHILS!!!
October 31st, 2009 at 9:18 pm
Come on Cole!!!! Get it done for us.
October 31st, 2009 at 9:18 pm
that’s more like it Hamels
October 31st, 2009 at 9:20 pm
Giving the high and low strike…wonder what the corners will be
October 31st, 2009 at 9:20 pm
Hamel’s aint messing around. He almost looks like Cliff Lee out there, no sooner does he get the ball back he is firing again.
October 31st, 2009 at 9:22 pm
HERE WE GO COLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful 1-2-3!!!!!!
October 31st, 2009 at 9:22 pm
Nice pitch
October 31st, 2009 at 9:22 pm
jreed – fastball between 91 to 94 per mlb gameday. I’ll take it
October 31st, 2009 at 9:23 pm
Is anyone else hearing that or is it just my tv? It’s hard to describe…it’s really loud, very deep, sounds like 45,000 thousand people cheering in unison. Oh wait…that’s a crowd. Sorry, I forgot what they were for a second.
October 31st, 2009 at 9:23 pm
only one inning, but ump has a favorable strike zone for Cole tonight, I think he wants to get the game over with. LIke I said only one Inning but good job by Cole. Now lets lite up AP
October 31st, 2009 at 9:24 pm
It sounds soooooo different than the other two games…..
October 31st, 2009 at 9:24 pm
Thats the best Cole has looked since that Dodgers game, earlier this season. fastball strikes. keep it up
October 31st, 2009 at 9:25 pm

October 31st, 2009 at 9:25 pm

I hope Werth got the memo about Petite’s pick off prowess
October 31st, 2009 at 9:30 pm
Same thing with Shane…if he get’s on base.
October 31st, 2009 at 9:31 pm
Utley normally does take the first pitch but when you have been standing up there for 5 minutes before the guy finally throws to the plate you might think it was a different count.
October 31st, 2009 at 9:33 pm
Take that Andy-cheater!! In yo face!
October 31st, 2009 at 9:33 pm
Man i could knit an afghan quilt in the time it take petite to throw
October 31st, 2009 at 9:33 pm
run Jimmy run!
October 31st, 2009 at 9:35 pm
Any chance the Phillies could sign Maclin or D-Jack as pinch runners? Cause that is pretty much all Deion Sanders was.
October 31st, 2009 at 9:36 pm
lol j reed gonna be a 4 hour game
October 31st, 2009 at 9:37 pm
Ballarina, clapclapclapclapc
October 31st, 2009 at 9:37 pm

October 31st, 2009 at 9:39 pm
make em work, he is stressing
October 31st, 2009 at 9:41 pm
Howard seems to be ahead of Pettitte tonight, he needs to sit back a little and just rake one when a mistake is made.
October 31st, 2009 at 9:41 pm
You see the trouble J-roll makes when he’s on base?! hehe
October 31st, 2009 at 9:45 pm
I hope Hamels still has some energy after almost falling asleep.
Hahahaha, he hit A-Rod…actually thats not good cause A-Rod has sucked it up.
October 31st, 2009 at 9:46 pm
Whoops….
October 31st, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Well Feliz your batting worse than Nick Swisher, please be flawless in the field.
October 31st, 2009 at 9:50 pm
The crowd is awesome tonight
October 31st, 2009 at 9:50 pm
Actually he’s batting better than Swisher….sorry Feliz…mea culpa
October 31st, 2009 at 9:50 pm
How come Cole can pitch an inning in 1/4th the time of Pettite?
October 31st, 2009 at 9:51 pm
88 mph fastball.. cmon cooooooooole!!
October 31st, 2009 at 9:53 pm
one more good inning by Cole, that is confidence hitting A rod knowing he can get the next three guys (slight sarcasim there)
Plus a lot of pitches by AP in the first keep it up Phillies. Lets go the middle to bottom of line up score some runs.

October 31st, 2009 at 10:07 pm

October 31st, 2009 at 10:08 pm
I agree J-Reed. That was an absolutely fantastic at bat by J-Roll.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:09 pm
that’s “way to go Jimmy….” Yeah Vic had a few Spicoli moments there but sacrificed in the run in.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:11 pm
Very nice inning boys!

October 31st, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Cole looks solid right now. We all knew we could put some damage on Andy. This crowd is loud.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Way to read that off the bat Werth…did you do your homework on Mr. Jeter?
October 31st, 2009 at 10:19 pm

October 31st, 2009 at 10:20 pm
Cole does look sharp and has a confidence I haven’t seen from him in a while… (maybe the Heidi-stores back open)
Go Phils! Lets chase Pettitte and work that bullpen
October 31st, 2009 at 10:21 pm
Yeah, I’d still take Beltre over Feliz in a heart beat. Beltre can flash the leather as well as handle the lumber
October 31st, 2009 at 10:22 pm
I love you Howard but please please please, wake up. We need you.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:24 pm
wasnt’ dennis werth a Phillies coach at one point?
October 31st, 2009 at 10:25 pm
NJ – I agree. Cole looks like we wants the ball tonight. How has your recovery been coming along after your hospital stay.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:27 pm
Howard’s swing looks long
October 31st, 2009 at 10:29 pm
I agree with you J-Reed. But the Phils won’t go after Beltre. Not if they want any chance of resigning Lee, which I don’t think they can afford to do anyway.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Lee is under contract through next year but he can opt out if he wants, but it’s a lot of money to opt out of
October 31st, 2009 at 10:30 pm
fine thanks back to lazy post-student ways. I’ve got to say for all the criticism Cole has recieved this year, which has been warranted, the innings pitched coupled with the lack of a structured off-season has to be the reason he’s looked so up and down.
I know it sounds so arbitrary but the difference seems to be Cole’s pitching faster and he’s throwing downhill tonight when he usually seems to get hit when he’s taking his time and trying to spot the ball like Greg Maddux.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Cmon Cole… keep your cool
October 31st, 2009 at 10:31 pm
That was a strike!!
October 31st, 2009 at 10:32 pm
Six straight fastballs…what McCarver talking about…I saw a curveball, albeit a bad one
October 31st, 2009 at 10:32 pm
F*CK THEYRE GONNA REPLAY IT… and it’s gonna be a 2-run HR…
October 31st, 2009 at 10:33 pm
That’s not a HR the Camera is over the wall.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:33 pm
uh oh.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:33 pm
Son of a b*tch, that was definitely a home run.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:34 pm
thats a homer. dam hamels. he was upset not getting that k.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:35 pm
The minute Cole stepped back when he was pitching to Texeira, I knew something bad was gonna happen…!!
October 31st, 2009 at 10:35 pm
Actually it was a HR…. Ugh
October 31st, 2009 at 10:35 pm
Ok Cole, settle the F down and start mowing them down.
Wake up Offense, Cole needs you big time.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:36 pm
damn. Let’s go Cole. Focus on getting two more.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:37 pm
Alright Cole, good job getting back on track. Please please please, we need some more runs.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:37 pm
ok let’s get to bat and forget about that one
October 31st, 2009 at 10:37 pm
no way is that a homerun..that ball was coming down..would have hit the fence…bad call..blind umpires…and texiera was struck out f’ u umpires
October 31st, 2009 at 10:37 pm
BIG STICK GUYS!!!!! We need stick!
October 31st, 2009 at 10:37 pm
shake it off cole, you still own these spanks
October 31st, 2009 at 10:37 pm
Good Cole kept it together after that.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:38 pm
It’s just sobering when Teix and A-Rod are due up no matter what slump they might be in…
October 31st, 2009 at 10:39 pm
bad news it was a HR but should have been a solo shot, good news Cole did not let it get to him yet,
lets score some more runs and pick up Cole please
October 31st, 2009 at 10:40 pm
It’s weird that they are showing the replay of game 3 of last year’s world series on the mlb network
October 31st, 2009 at 10:40 pm
Tex was definitely K’ed, ump blew that, but it was a home run.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:40 pm
if the camera was not there its hitting the middle of the upper fence so open ur eyes
October 31st, 2009 at 10:41 pm
arod has played like crap in the field so far this series
October 31st, 2009 at 10:41 pm
YES! Aroid error!
October 31st, 2009 at 10:41 pm
Well then we can agree to disagree Josh but I think that was a home run.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:41 pm
Alright Feliz…Chooch is gonna rock one
October 31st, 2009 at 10:41 pm
haha..the yankees payroll made an error
October 31st, 2009 at 10:42 pm
We need this crowd making some noise!
October 31st, 2009 at 10:42 pm
Feliz stay on the bag
October 31st, 2009 at 10:43 pm
seems our rightie are rocking petite ..and lefties suck against him..that sweeping slider is so predictable chase ryan and Raul
October 31st, 2009 at 10:43 pm
it was a home run
October 31st, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Alright Feliz way to foil the DP
October 31st, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Don’t know if anyone else is listening to Sutcliffe/O’Brian but how you can say Cano is a gold glove candidate a couple of days after saying Utley isn’t a particularly good defensive player is beyond me…
October 31st, 2009 at 10:44 pm
lets go jimmy bring him home..single would be great to damon
October 31st, 2009 at 10:44 pm
dudes…..that was a home run to be honest with you.No doubt…i’m on the fense with the fall classic.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:45 pm
J-roll you have been money so far, get us a run.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:45 pm
Making the Yankee’s pitcher work…yeah!
October 31st, 2009 at 10:45 pm
Yeah Josh this time thru they shouldn’t get fooled by it…I hope
October 31st, 2009 at 10:48 pm
I HATE AROID. I dont think there is a bone in my body that likes this guy. He is a cheater, liar on baseball and his family. He is a pig. Sorry had to vent.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:49 pm
typical rollins.pops up on a great pitch he could have squared up on and drove down the right field line instead he swings up on it and hits a weak fly…
October 31st, 2009 at 10:49 pm
Cano a gold glove canidate.?..what are they judging Ut on those two muffed double plays this post season.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:49 pm
Ok Cole big shut down inning here please, one inning at a time, your boys will score more runs for you but shut down the yanks here
October 31st, 2009 at 10:49 pm
Shut em down Cole
October 31st, 2009 at 10:50 pm
Wow now that’s a curveball Cole
October 31st, 2009 at 10:50 pm
non, no, Aroid is a CENTAUR, LMAO
October 31st, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Alright damage control Cole.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Swisher is absolute garbage, you can’t be giving up double’s to him.
Ok get Melky out, then the pitcher and maybe we can escape this.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:52 pm
I have lost all respect for Sutcliffe with his analysis this year, you just wonder how some of these play by play guys can know less than the fans so much of time.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Time to take the FB to the next level Hamels…ramp it up
October 31st, 2009 at 10:54 pm
the pitcher got a hit
October 31st, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Unfing believable. What happened to the Hamels of the first 3 innings?
October 31st, 2009 at 10:54 pm
stick with fastball change up..he never touche touched the plate..and why were we not playing him in…wtf charlie
October 31st, 2009 at 10:54 pm
What were they thinking….FBs to a pitcher
October 31st, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Think I’m gonna go and throw up now…
October 31st, 2009 at 10:55 pm
Cole can’t hold a lead for the life of him. Cole is coming apart.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:55 pm
UGH. What the hell is happening?
October 31st, 2009 at 10:55 pm
I agree, why was the OF not in on Pettitte?
October 31st, 2009 at 10:55 pm
and cole is back. curve ball is horrible. get happ in.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:55 pm
hamels always falls apart in the fifth inning look it up this post season….its not his fault tho…they are not hit hard at all
October 31st, 2009 at 10:56 pm
COLE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 31st, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Brother
October 31st, 2009 at 10:57 pm
Cole started off so well and just utterly and completely feel apart.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:57 pm
Cliff should have pitched tonight. Goodbye World Series Championship!
October 31st, 2009 at 10:57 pm
Your right ed. should of been in. this game is falling apart quickly
October 31st, 2009 at 10:57 pm
oh my fucn gosh get him out of there a fn fastball down the plate…..throw the fn change up hamels…thats ur money pitch not a fastball down the freaking plate to damon
October 31st, 2009 at 10:58 pm
This is the REAL Cole folks!! Cruising through 3 inning and then comes apart.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:58 pm
oh my gosh get him out of there a fn fastball down the plate…..throw the change up hamels…thats ur money pitch not a fastball down the freaking plate to damon
October 31st, 2009 at 10:58 pm
brutal
October 31st, 2009 at 10:58 pm
I honestly thought Hamels was amped and ready to pitch a gem. Now let’s get some damage control, if you can even call it that and get out of this inning down 2. Hopefully the offense wakes the F up.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:59 pm
That one by Damon was and you don’t throw an off speed pitch to a pitcher…who called for a curveball
October 31st, 2009 at 10:59 pm
F off Terri, we dont need your shiit now. GO AWAY
October 31st, 2009 at 11:00 pm
Cole sucks I wouldn’t start him again you know.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:01 pm
I just dont understand charlie at times. The outfield not in. Your best pitcher on 3 days rest is better then anyone we have. cole is pathetic this year. i really think we lose tonight and CC wins. We go back 3-2 down and the yankees close it out.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:02 pm
It is the TRUTH!! He was sharp through the first 3 innings and comes apart after that AROD “HR” People are tired of his Sh*t! He walked off to boos.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Game set and match. I’m already counting tomorrow night as a loss, so if they lose tonight…it’s over. Cole sucks!
October 31st, 2009 at 11:02 pm
It’s the 5th inning – we have lots of ball left to play. Let’s go PHILS! We aren’t the Fightins for nothing.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:02 pm
The hit by swisher eh…not great but it happens but the one to Petite, bad choice …inexcusable.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:04 pm
Why did Charlie bring in Happ to face A-Rod?
October 31st, 2009 at 11:07 pm
that was big, swinging at a 3-0 pitch..meat of the order coming up, let’s score some runs!!!!!!!!!
October 31st, 2009 at 11:07 pm
If this thing goes to 7, I wanna see Happ (not Hamels!) regardless of how he does
October 31st, 2009 at 11:08 pm
I dont like mccarver but he made a great point. why is cole throwing is third pitch to a pitcher. fastball.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:08 pm
i think hamels just cost us the series
October 31st, 2009 at 11:08 pm
ed r. its nice to see Charlie just say screw the match-ups and let your best arm out of the pen just go out there and pitch knowing he’s going to be on the mound in the next inning.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:09 pm
Well its in the bats hands now….Thanks posdea for that gift.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:09 pm
any idiot who thinks a 1-1 series is over trailing by 2 runs in the 5th inning of the world series, is, well, an idiot…especially with what we’ve done this postseason
October 31st, 2009 at 11:09 pm
If Lee went in game 4 then you bring him back for innings in 7. now you lose him in 7. just makes no sense to me. does everyone agree?
October 31st, 2009 at 11:09 pm
I don’t think I have ever been this disappointed in a long time. I know this game is far from over but I really thought after the first two innings that Cole was on point tonight and was going to be the savior that we needed him to be.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:10 pm
Cole needs to see a shrink because when ever something goes wrong he falls apart like the chase utley error against the dodger and now the a-rod home run her just loses his confidence.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:10 pm
Cole sucks Charlie should have started Happ in the rotation Nice work Cole a typical Cole Hamels fall apart game like all season. He gave up a RBI to a fing pitcher in a dl league At least he only gave up 1 dinger tonite
October 31st, 2009 at 11:10 pm
utley cost the series as well as howaRD,
Petite has not been sharp… they should have at least 5 runs…
October 31st, 2009 at 11:10 pm
some of you guys here are pathetic. and you call youselves phillies fans.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:10 pm
now now folks, down only 2 in the 5TH, plenty of time to score
October 31st, 2009 at 11:10 pm
I am baffled by a that call for a curveball to Petite…that’s a no brainer FB
October 31st, 2009 at 11:12 pm
this game is over.. thanks cole hamels…
October 31st, 2009 at 11:12 pm
offense needs to do something. Ryan has 6 consecutive K. LETS GO!!
October 31st, 2009 at 11:13 pm
ed r. know what you mean, at 3-0 I had the 11 of 12 last game one winners winning the series (feel free to correct if wrong) stat in my head… Feels like were on the back-foot having shown our hand now
October 31st, 2009 at 11:13 pm
I have a feeling Pettitte is going to shut this team down now that he has a lead. He will go 7 unless they can start to string together some hits. Come on guys. Turn this around!!!
October 31st, 2009 at 11:13 pm
the crowd needs to pick it as well.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:14 pm
Yeah we can get to this guy….Petite doesn’t have much going he can be had.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:15 pm
j reed – that;s right because the meat of the phillies order has disappeared except for werth -
GROUND BALLS AND k’s & pop ups
October 31st, 2009 at 11:15 pm
THIS GAME ISN”T OVER BY A LONG SHOT
October 31st, 2009 at 11:16 pm
soon it it will be mariano time and the phils are down 2-1 with chunky cc pitching
October 31st, 2009 at 11:17 pm
we get to the 8th inning down. GAME OVER. Sorry but Mo is Mo.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:18 pm
I don’t think Petite will shut this team down….if we get shut down it’ll be on us.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:18 pm
i would love to see the phillies come back – i don’t see it — it seems to be one of nearly total team slumps…
first hamels implodes
and now the offense goes south
October 31st, 2009 at 11:18 pm
This is killing me…They had Pettite on the ropes, 51 pitches after 2 innings and now he’s only at 83 through 5. Offense is sleeping now.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:18 pm
They can do this a lot more game to play, We will come back LETS GO PHILLIES
October 31st, 2009 at 11:19 pm
peitite did not pitch that well – but the phils let him off the hook in the early innings..
October 31st, 2009 at 11:19 pm
well the good thing is we won’t face Mariano for 2 innings.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:19 pm
problem is the bats have gone from working Pettitte out of the game to letting him stretch it out to the 7th
October 31st, 2009 at 11:19 pm
The are going to win. You gotta believe!
October 31st, 2009 at 11:20 pm
maybe they should let cole go about 3 innings then bring in a reliever
October 31st, 2009 at 11:21 pm
Ugh….
October 31st, 2009 at 11:22 pm
Just F*ckin great. Make Swisher look like Mantle.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:22 pm
still think they are going to win?
October 31st, 2009 at 11:22 pm
bye bye repeat…
October 31st, 2009 at 11:22 pm
Now the game and series is over.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Phils should bench Hamels. He just doesn’t have what it takes. Let someone else carry the load. Fact is, the Phils may be finished after tonight. Broken backs against a superior team. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, but the Yankees are the Phils’ Daddy.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:24 pm
Durbin is warming up….he should have been the one who got the call. He’s looked the best out of the pen.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:24 pm
It’s always sweeter with adversity, trust me. Phils will not quit.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:25 pm
hate to say it but the Yanks have ‘the mo’, and the Mo and that’s probably the point they take control unless the Phils have something up their sleves.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Why the f*ck wasn’t Hamels throwing fastballs to Pettite. Happ got him out easy…Cole is such a head case. I just want to know if Ruiz called for that curve ball, b/c I think he calls a better game than that…
but who knows at this point. ugh. And now CC pitching tomorrow…
October 31st, 2009 at 11:26 pm
lmaoooo the game and the series is over? Mentally challenged people in here. Oh wait, I forgot, the braves won the division, oh wait, no, the rockies won the 1st round, oh crap, wait, the dodgers won the nlcs..oh crap wait
October 31st, 2009 at 11:26 pm
Man, we’re not finished yet…
October 31st, 2009 at 11:27 pm
I can believe any in here thinks this is over it is not over 27 outs
October 31st, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Yanks are the best team money can buy — has to suck knowing all those guys are just playing for money and not passion of the game.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Amen Peter, Im feeling a rally
October 31st, 2009 at 11:28 pm
Charlie needs to grow a pair and give the ball to cliff lee no way blanton out pitches cc.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:28 pm
C’mon now!! Man I wish Werth had someone on base when he hits!
October 31st, 2009 at 11:28 pm
Thank GOD for Werth! Let’s go gentlemen – step up to that plate and help him out!
October 31st, 2009 at 11:28 pm
Jayson is our hottest hitter.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:29 pm
CC on three days rest might not be all that. He pitched well the other night but was shakey, alot of 2-0 counts….That ball is orbiting Pluto.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Glad to see someone showed up for this game.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:30 pm
Ibanez looks lost…
October 31st, 2009 at 11:30 pm
i agree lee has to come back, but only if we lose tonight. so what he’s never pitched on 3 days rest, at one point in his career cc didn’t pitch on 3 days rest. you gotta start somewhere
October 31st, 2009 at 11:31 pm
Pedro lets do this….
October 31st, 2009 at 11:32 pm
C’mon Chooch
October 31st, 2009 at 11:34 pm
can i just ask why cole would throw a first ball CURVEBALL to the pitcher??
try a fastball cole, its common sense
October 31st, 2009 at 11:34 pm
Done with girly boy Cole. Enough. Team hands you a 3-0 lead and you totally shit the bed. Again. He can’t make another start this year…it isn’t fair to the team. “Hollywood” needs to be retired. Back to work this offseason, Cole. Very disappointing.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:34 pm
not many people cheered when they announced bruntlett..lol
October 31st, 2009 at 11:34 pm
we’re handcuffed to Blanton in game 4, you can’t bring Lee back to take a loss on short rest and have nothing to throw at them in an elimination game.
Oh god its the beard…
October 31st, 2009 at 11:34 pm
Why is Charlie pinch hitting Bruntlett????
October 31st, 2009 at 11:34 pm
Look out it’s the Brunt….does he do it
October 31st, 2009 at 11:34 pm
They’re taking Happ out to bring in the BEARD?!??!?!?! You might as well let Happ swing!
October 31st, 2009 at 11:35 pm
Really bruntlett?
October 31st, 2009 at 11:36 pm
hn -that qustion is still boring a hole thru my cerebral cortex
October 31st, 2009 at 11:36 pm
Bruntlett – what a damn waste of an AB.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:36 pm
AC i think Charlie put Brunt in there because he thought Girardi would go to the pen and he didn’t want to burn Frisco if they decided to bring in a righty, but it back fired because Brunt came out and Girardi basically said, well this guy blows so go ahead Andy, pitch to him.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:36 pm
well i guess we have the top of the order in the next inning.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:37 pm
Lets win this one today first guys… it’s a 2-run game… stop thinking about tomorrow and FOCUS ON TODAY
October 31st, 2009 at 11:37 pm
Matt Stairs has more chance of getting on base with a 2 out drag bunt against a lefty with the corners playing in than Bruntlett has of getting on.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:38 pm
Keep believing the Phils will not quit…good night all.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:39 pm
Ed R – good point. Pettite was over 100 pitches when brunt stepped in, but now he’s only at 104. Will Girardi bring him back out in the 7th?
Phils basically have 2 innings to get this back, or its Rivera again. At least its top of the order next inning. Maybe Utley and Howard will finally snap out of it
October 31st, 2009 at 11:39 pm
wow it’s going to be november soon
October 31st, 2009 at 11:39 pm
I give up. The Phillies are done for.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:39 pm
I understand the thinking… but hell, if you need to burn Francisco, burn him. This is the World Friggin Series. There is no reason that Brunlett should have a bat in his hand unless it is the 17th inning AND all of your bullpen pitchers have already pinch hit. I don’t care what Charlie’s strategy was. Awful, completely awful.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:39 pm
lol…i wish we had better options than bruntlett..Mayberry Jr should have been on the roster..he hit petite pretty good
October 31st, 2009 at 11:41 pm
is there something wrong with francisco? why wasn’t he out there?
October 31st, 2009 at 11:42 pm
the rain is starting to pick up.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:43 pm
You know it aint over but we all said Hamels would be the lynch pin…I’ve been giving him a free pass for last year, it just that we get back and have to face Yankees. The worst timing for him to have an off year. This team is capable of anything so I still believe…I’m just a little numb right now
October 31st, 2009 at 11:43 pm
mayberry is not eligible for the post season roster… unless there was an injury to an outfielder.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:44 pm
Dam where did that pitch come from Durbin?
October 31st, 2009 at 11:45 pm
CMON LETS WIN THIS PHILLIES!!!!!!!!!!
October 31st, 2009 at 11:45 pm
too bad..would be nice to have a young power bat on the roster
October 31st, 2009 at 11:46 pm
any chance Happ gets the start in game 7 if it goes that far?
October 31st, 2009 at 11:46 pm
that was a strike 3
October 31st, 2009 at 11:47 pm
crud…c’mon Durbin
October 31st, 2009 at 11:47 pm
if he wouldn’t stand on the plate then it wouldn”t be a hbp
October 31st, 2009 at 11:47 pm
that pitch was strike three..umpire is so inconsistent this series..
October 31st, 2009 at 11:49 pm
Oh boy
October 31st, 2009 at 11:50 pm
Phils bullpen sucks. Durbin had 2 strikes on several of these batters and just can’t deliver. He must go to the Cole Hamels School of Pitching.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:50 pm
the Phillies are getting screwed big time by the ump.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:51 pm
just horrible
the yankees seem to want this game more…or the phillies have fallen into a mid yr slump now
October 31st, 2009 at 11:51 pm
i hate johnny damon with a passion ….i hate the yankees with a passion…they buy there whole team CC. Burnett…Aroid. Texiera, Damon. im sure there’s more..its just pathetic that teams have to buy championships….Giardi isn’t a good coach he just has a billion dollar team…
October 31st, 2009 at 11:52 pm
did we have a lefty to bring out. the ump actually helped pasada. should of walked.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:52 pm
I had to leave the Sports Bar. I’m sure my Yankee Freinds are having a good time. I just couldn’t watch Cole and his junk anymore. We should’ve known that Cole would have problems when Charlie/Cole keep bringing up the curve ball during pregame. He was doing just fine with his Fastball/Change early on. Charlie not going to Ben Fran with the tying run up there just adds to the list on embrassing Charlie Blunders. Add using Chad Durbin instead of the Chan Ho to the list. I’m sorry, but Charlie is getting more retarded game by game. I thought the winner of Game 3 would win the series in 6 games. I think we might be done folks…. I’m still holding on for the miracle.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:53 pm
Who know about game seven….Hamels certainly shouldn’t be given another chance.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:54 pm
don’t blame on theumps
blame on lousy pitching and with the exception of werth – inconsistent hitting
and dumb managerial moves (like in gm2 ) & wtf is with bruntleTT ph?
October 31st, 2009 at 11:54 pm
I do not like where this game is headed…..
October 31st, 2009 at 11:55 pm
GWFightinsFan
I do not like where this SERIES is headed…..
October 31st, 2009 at 11:55 pm
dont hate now josh. the yankees are a much better team then we are. they have better starting pitchers. 1 2 3. with the exception of lee. cc averages it out. better clutch hitters. howard and utley are back to sleepwalking. i just dont think we win this series. i wish joe g was coaching us. he said he might as well use cc in game four. why rest him, ITS THE WORLD SERIES.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:55 pm
3 innings 4 runs they can do this, never surrender, never give up. You know they have not given up, that is why they are the PHITIN PHILS.
Have some faith, and lets get loud and rack up some runs, win 12-7, they can get to MO and any releiver out there. You got to believe, I do,
three runs in the 7th please, I know you can do it, now lets go out and do it, Did the US give up when the Germans bomb pearl harbour NO!!!!
This is our inning 7 8 9 offensive explosion
October 31st, 2009 at 11:56 pm
Let’s go Phils – show ‘em why we’re nicknamed the FIGHTINS!!!
Keeping the phaith in CT.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:57 pm
rollins still swinging early. outside of werth our offense sucks.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:58 pm
SHOW SOME SOUL PHILLIES!
October 31st, 2009 at 11:58 pm
You don’t think Hamels will get another chance come game 7? I sure do. Charlie sticks with his guys. We all know that. This is why you go with Lee on short rest. No disrespect to Blanton but Lee on short rest is better than Blanton on any rest. Charlie said that he does not see it as a difference throwing Lee in game 5 as opposed to on short rest, I beg to differ. You pitch Lee game 4 you have gotten 2 starts out of him this series, with a 3rd as a possibility. You pitch Lee game 5 then that is it. He will not be back unless its in relief. Which I doubt. Charlie said he does not trust a guy who has never done it before…well you gotta start somewhere and Lee is willing to do it, and so far, he is the only one to shut the Yanks down all post season. Not just in this series, all post season. This is the World Series. You pull out all the stops. I personally don’t think Girardi is a good manager and yet he seems to be schooling Manuel so far. It’s so frustrating.
October 31st, 2009 at 11:58 pm
SORRY BETA SIGMA …2 OUTS In 7th
this game is OVER……………………….
October 31st, 2009 at 11:59 pm
Utley NEEDS to get on base here for Howard… You dont want him starting an inning
November 1st, 2009 at 12:00 am
No, it’s over when the final out is recorded in the 9th. It looks bad.. but it’s not OVER.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:00 am
utley looks like bruntlett at the plate.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:00 am
cabrera is a jerk for teasing fans with the ball..
November 1st, 2009 at 12:00 am
goodnight guys. im off to bed….BALL GAME OVER, WORLD SERIES, you know the rest. Hey Cole go to hell you moron. Waste of space. Princess boy. NIGHT.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:00 am
This game isn’t over by any means… BUT we need to step up and do some damage!! Cmon bats!!!!!!
November 1st, 2009 at 12:01 am
HK- Hamels threw some decent curveballs but you don’t throw three in a row to swisher and then start the pitcher with one. I’d like to know what he or Ruiz was thinking. The game hinged on that decision.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:01 am
Good night! Don’t really need your support anyway..
November 1st, 2009 at 12:02 am
If we lose tonight tomorrow is a MUST WIN!!
November 1st, 2009 at 12:02 am
Hey Ed I already said all that above. Manuel is a dip sht….
November 1st, 2009 at 12:02 am

November 1st, 2009 at 12:02 am

November 1st, 2009 at 12:03 am
Jeff G. way to be classy. Really. Go root for the Met’s you scum bag.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:03 am
FillyP
it’s over – sorry to say – the pitching – now the BP has given 2 runs..
so it’s not out of the realm of reasonableness, that they will give up more…
the cleashwater thashers now are batting… so better luck next yr
they are all trying to hit hr’s not being patient – THIS IS BAD…
November 1st, 2009 at 12:04 am
those on here who are still hopeful, i envy you. i am about ready to cry and/or get really, really mad
November 1st, 2009 at 12:04 am
I hope Myers drills Cabrera in the face.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:04 am
Charlie is not anything other than the manager of last years World Champions and this years NL Champs. Might not be the smartest guy ever but he knows more than all of us, even if we don’t think so.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:05 am
Seriously, who bails out on the team like that??
It’s depressing, we agree…but we can’t give up. Not now, not with this group of guys.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:05 am
Does anyone give a crap what Myers bowling numbers are? Because I know I don’t.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:06 am
Even if this game looks bad and they concede, we’ve got two more at the ball club. You guys are really telling me we’ll drop 3 in a row at the Bank? Just fold it all up and pack it in? I’m sure glad you “phans” are not the players….
November 1st, 2009 at 12:06 am
hey scum bags i work at 6 am. i have two surgeries in the morning. i know your off collecting my garbage. YOU TRASH.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:07 am
when it rains it pours.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:07 am
that pretty much seals it now
November 1st, 2009 at 12:07 am
I think that just sealed the game…
November 1st, 2009 at 12:07 am
damn bullpen…every single one of them giving up runs.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:08 am
Ed R. – I agree that Lee should go tomorrow but I don’t think he’s schooling Charlie…that’s alittle heavy handed. Lee has to go tomorrow at this point. Man Hamels really screwed us
November 1st, 2009 at 12:08 am
i want them to win so bad… but they are not playing like champs… right now…
they helped petiite out tonight…
he was beatable. but we have beating ourselves..
unless they get out of this funk…tonight,
this night is done
November 1st, 2009 at 12:08 am
…….
November 1st, 2009 at 12:08 am
I agree Edr… This series reminds of the Good old Andy Reid NFC Championships Games. Chuck is getting out managed by a 2nd yr guy. Shameful… Hey look.. It’s Godzilla again…. This series is over.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:08 am
this is just an awfully cruel game. we need lee to pitch every game, who the hell is this team anyway?
November 1st, 2009 at 12:08 am
I hate joining these boards late, but not a great day of pitching. Cole had 3 good innings followed by utter crap, Happ started off pretty good out of the bullpen, and then it really go ugly. 5 runs without even getting an out in the 5th inning is bad enough.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:09 am
It’s you’re off you uneducated dumbass. Now who’s the garbage man?
November 1st, 2009 at 12:09 am
Jeff G. is internet tough guy what you are wearing for Halloween? Or are you naturally this happy?
November 1st, 2009 at 12:10 am
I think Ed said it best earlier – I don’t think I’ve been this disappointed in a while. Everything started off brilliantly. Pettite was smacked around and Cole looks so sharp for 3. Introduce the CB and get blasted. It’s been an avalanche since then…
That 15min storm can’t come soon enough, huh?
November 1st, 2009 at 12:10 am
To the bull pen…that’s 10 days of rust….Hamels let us down tonight, plain and simple.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:10 am
Looking at the bright side, IF WE MANAGE TO SOMEHOW MAGICALLY WIN today…. woah
November 1st, 2009 at 12:10 am
phils will win 1 at the bank, but really they need to win the next 2. If they go back to NY down 3-2, forget about it.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:11 am
4 runs in the 8th 1 in the 9th will win this LETS GO PHILLIES,
I STILL BELIEVE, 27 OUTS IS WHAT YOU PLAY. LETS GO PHILLIES
November 1st, 2009 at 12:12 am
the bp looks like they got paid off by the yankees
the offense went to sleep ( exc for werth)
if this continues tomorrow, the series is over…
i think the guy in the baseball cap commercial should ask hamels
WHO R U? & not the other way around…
this is pitiful
November 1st, 2009 at 12:12 am
Lets hope they bring in Phil Hughes and we can get to him
November 1st, 2009 at 12:12 am
BUT THIS SERIES IS LONG FROM OVER WIN OR LOSE THIS GAME, MAN YOU GOT TO HAVE A LITTLE FAITH
November 1st, 2009 at 12:12 am
series isn’t over!, this game maybe…all they phils need is a spark
November 1st, 2009 at 12:13 am
That storm already arrived…it was the Yankees bats.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:14 am
beta sigma shag
i admire u – u r a believer – even if not a realist…
unless the enitre offense turns on the proverbial switch at once.
they will be lucky to get 4 AB’s in the 8th – let alone 4 runs
November 1st, 2009 at 12:15 am
November 1st, 2009 at 12:15 am
I don’t know about anything but I truly think the team will come out on a mission tomorrow. This is too good of a group to just die. Blanton has the potential to be okay……..be positive guys…or try to. :*(
Happ should have been a starter in a game…..he came in at a bad time, i have confidence in him anyway
November 1st, 2009 at 12:15 am
I agree AC – they’ve got to win the next 2 and go back to NY with the advantage. CC will be scared/tired tomorrow, and Yanks game 5 is.. Gaudain? We definitely have a shot.
Man, the crowd at the Bank is complacent…
November 1st, 2009 at 12:15 am
ryan needs to stop pressing
November 1st, 2009 at 12:15 am
Golden Sombero again Howard…Come on jason werth
November 1st, 2009 at 12:15 am
ryan howard is old as ice..
November 1st, 2009 at 12:15 am
As for Jeff g, and other possible idiots flipping out, are you by chance forgetting that you are Watching the Phillies in WORLD SERIES? Seriously people, I agree this is a bad game, and Queen Cole has screwed us this post season never lasting more than 6 innings in any start, and this game is probably over seeing the closer they have, and hopefully the Phillies bats can come alive again and tie up the series. But still, this is the 2nd straight year we are watching out favorite team in the World Series. Let the idiot haters talk, because the only fans that should be opening their mouths at all should be Yankmees fans and Phillies PHans. All the rest of the “fans”/Trolls/Haters should get a life and realize their team obviously screwed the pooch and either missed the playoffs, or lost to the Phillies. However with all that said, Howard striking out 4 times in Game 2 and 3 times tonight is rather PATHETIC. He is obviously done. Maybe he peaked to early? Not sure.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:16 am
howard struck out, but the first 2 called strikes were garbage calls by the sh*ttiest ump on the crew, gorman, who’s been absolute crap tonite.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:17 am
ryan howard is cold as ice..
November 1st, 2009 at 12:19 am
the yankees had the same ump…
the phillies could not get clutch hitting or pitching
unless they get it together quickly… they will sink further
I HOPE I AM WRONG……
November 1st, 2009 at 12:21 am
Well hit ball right to ARod. I doubt they’ll bring Rivera in for two innings with a 4 run lead.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:21 am
I’m going to the eagles game tomorrow, when I leave the linc any yankees fans I see I will beat the holy hell out of. LOL….Kidding……No matter what happens tonight, we have a lot of baseball left. No need to get depressed tonight, tomorrow will be here before you know it
November 1st, 2009 at 12:22 am
The first two pitches on Howard might been junk calls, but the 3rd strike couldnt be called a strike by a blind man. Howard is hot and cold. He just happens to have gotten cold in the World Series this season back to swinging at utter crap. Hopefully they can come back tomorrow and win it. If they lose tomorrow, they are done. So lets hope this spark starts in the 9th, and at least get some of the runs back.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:22 am
A really disappointing loss if we lose, but if we somehow beat Sabathia tomorrow, we go into Game 5 with Lee vs. Burnett.
We can still win this series!
November 1st, 2009 at 12:23 am
The worst part of this entire series is my love for the phillies is equalled by bitter hatred for the yankees. Always will love the phils always loathe the yanks.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:23 am
anyone who thinks this series is over if they do not manage to come back in the 9th and win this game, (I still have faith) is crazy.
Why are you people all of the sudden affraid of CC especially on 3 days rest. We hit him before we can hit him again.
that is why they play 7 games, even if they do not pull this off all they have to do is win today, Sunday night, and then game 5 is the biggest game, and Cliff will be pitching, so stop saying this series is over it is only one game out of seven. Have a little faith
November 1st, 2009 at 12:23 am
Well done Brian of Co. Good to see you.
Look tonight’s game might be over but tomorrow is a new day. And like Brian said, this is the world series, two years in a row for our guys. If you are really that pissed about this then go root for the Pirates because I will bet dollars to dimes that you won’t have to worry about your team losing in the W.S for the next 20 years.
The offense needs to wake up in a big way, otherwise it won’t matter what Blanton does tomorrow.
Also, if I am Girardi I do not put Mo in tonight. Save him for the next two days. But I am not Girardi so whatever.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:23 am
Well said Brian of CO. How’s your son….been busy i guess…haven’t seen you on the boards lately.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:24 am
TO-NIGHT BARRING A MIRACLE…IS OVER, &
i can’t see blanton out dueling chunky cheese sabathia. even if joe pitches well,
since the phillies bats went to sleep since game 2… howard is atrocious & utley and ibanez the same – reality is – how can they win – if only 1 or 2 players are getting on base and driving in runs. and their bullpen cannot keep the ball in the yard?
November 1st, 2009 at 12:25 am
@Ray, no need to get depressed at all IMO. Dissapointed yes, but we are still watching the 2nd straight World Series.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:27 am
Brian of CO: Were you watching the entire game? If you have, and you saw Cole go 1-2-3 in the first, and the Phillies then take a 3-0 lead, and then the umpires give A-roid the 2-run HR, and now watch every bp guy give up a run… you HAVE to be depressed. I really haven’t felt this sad in a long time.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:27 am
i never seen the phils carry one bad game into another, the phils might be over tonight, maybe, but i have no doubt tommorrow will be a win
November 1st, 2009 at 12:27 am
It’s not about flipping out. Ok maybe a little. But it is more about projection. The best way to knock off a team like this Yankee ball club with our suspect starting pitching(Charlie strange moves) is to do it quickly. That’s why I picked the Phills in 4 or 5 games. Who pitches a potential Game 6 yet alone a Game 7??? Why didn’t Charlie at least have Cliff Lee prepare to start Game 4. At least give yourself the option. Even if you keep it to yourself. A win tomm and the dream is still alive. But if we don’t we all know the truth….
November 1st, 2009 at 12:27 am
@Ed R and J Reed, great to be back. Brian Jr is doing well thanks for asking guys. He was hit with Thrush (very minor infection), but got him some antibiotics and is doing MUCH better now. I still need to upload pictures to a site besides Facebook so I can upload Jr’s picture and the picture of his Phillies Room!
November 1st, 2009 at 12:28 am
they will give cc a beat down tomorrow and while i’m at making predictions, we will get the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth..lol
November 1st, 2009 at 12:28 am
i hate A-roid my one consulation is that he is going to burn in hell!
November 1st, 2009 at 12:28 am
@Manny, I am dissapointer than depressed.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:28 am
Not that I am all that impressed or afraid of Sabathia. We did only manage to Utley solo jobs off of him in 7 innings, and that was apparently when our offense(minus Werth) was not in a collective slump.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:29 am
I meant more disappointed than depressed.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:29 am
yeah – hopefully , not the the last w/s in a long time
if you get to the w/s – and don;t win – like doing to a dance &
end up dancing w/ your sister…
not the result – you want…
November 1st, 2009 at 12:30 am
Well at least, if we do lose this, we can watch Ricky B. ream Hamels which he full deserves….Ed R. funny how Hamels got burned by Manny with three straight change-ups and then with swisher three straight curve balls though that obviously didn’t go out but set the stage for the the collapse tonight. WTF is going thru his mind…Boy Madson got robbed by the ump with that walk to ARod…
November 1st, 2009 at 12:30 am
chuckS great point, this game will be forgotten about by this team by tomorrow, that’s what’s so great about them
November 1st, 2009 at 12:30 am
yeah – hopefully , not the last w/s in a long time
if you get to the w/s – and don;t win – like GOING to a dance &
end up dancing w/ your sister…
not the result – you want…
November 1st, 2009 at 12:30 am
Dobbs, Riuz, and Stairs in the ninth?
November 1st, 2009 at 12:30 am
Hip-hip-Jorge chants at the Bank? Ugh. Don’t even want to repeat it. That makes me absolutely sick.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:31 am
Whoever comes up to bat in the ninth, needs to GET ON BASE.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:31 am
Howard and Utley have looked absolutely lost at the plate tonight and in game 2. The tough problem is our guys give up home runs they always have, and the Yankees are teeing off on the bullpen.
I think it is safe to say if this goes 7 we will not see Hamels again. His season is over. Such a disappointing one. He needs a shrink!! I swear he better get his shit together by spring training.
I would love to see something at the bottom of the ninth, I am not too confident that it will happen.
The other problem is….. we are giving the Yankee hitters momentum in a band box. Our pitching looks to be our demise
November 1st, 2009 at 12:31 am
SEE YA ALL MANANA…
hopefully w/ a better ending
November 1st, 2009 at 12:32 am
CMON GUYS it’s Phil Hughes… we GOTTA do something here… NEVER GIVE UP!! LETS GO PHILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 1st, 2009 at 12:32 am
i’ll watch the game – but i am blogged out..
November 1st, 2009 at 12:33 am
That A-Rod HR call is the wrong call. First of all it was ruled a double on the field. Secondly you need conclusive evidence to overturn the call on the field, and the conclusive evidence was not there. That ball either barely goes out, or hits the top of the fence. You cannot tell because either the ball is dropping at a fast rate or carrying well and that cannot be determined in 15 seconds which is what the umps took to make that call. That is the wrong call by the umps. The Yankees did nothing up to that point, that was their first hit. And for the umps to go in for 15 seconds and come out that quick to signal HR is wrong. The umps put the Yankees on the board, not the Yankees themselves. Had that been the tail end of a 6 run inning for the Yankees, the call is understandable. Being that the Yankees were yet to score in the game, it is the wrong call because the umps are giving the Yankees runs before they even score any themselves.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:34 am
I really think Hamels is just lost this season. He just doesn’t know what to do. I don’t see him really shaking off Ruiz so its not like he is not listening to the catcher and instead going with what he wants. It’s just that he can’t locate for an entire game and he can’t put guys away. Maybe next year.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:35 am
Let me ask you all this then. Would you rather
A. Miss the Playoffs
B. Lose in the NLDS
C. Lose in the NLCS
D. go down 2 games to 1 in the World Series to a team who pretty bought the championship.
The Yankees are the reason MLB needs a salary cap. The Phillies payroll is close to half of the Yankmees. Are you kidding me?
November 1st, 2009 at 12:35 am
come on pete happy
November 1st, 2009 at 12:35 am
I agree with Schmidt that giving A-Rod the homer was the wrong call as I don’t think it was fair to overturn what was called on the field, however, it was a home run so whatever.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:36 am
By the way, I’d hate to be the one jeff g is operating on because if the smallest thing went wrong he’d just call it a day and send you off to the morgue
November 1st, 2009 at 12:36 am
COME ON, WE CAN GET TO HUGHES!! LET’S MAKE ‘EM PAY FOR TRYING TO SAVE MO
November 1st, 2009 at 12:37 am
thats a start
November 1st, 2009 at 12:38 am
Alright CHOOCH!!!! Never say die!
November 1st, 2009 at 12:38 am
Well at least we force Riveria to pitch
November 1st, 2009 at 12:39 am
We got to Mariano two days ago, we can do it now! Get that in your head Phillies and lets give it our all….
November 1st, 2009 at 12:40 am
HK – Not that Yankees starters are all that minus CC. They have more depth with the bats than we do and that covers up for a multitude of sins. Bottom line tonight has been all about that top of the fifth and a seriously dumb pitch choice by Hamels.
Choochie
November 1st, 2009 at 12:40 am
Start with Chooch. Come on guys. I know Rivera is awesome, but lets do this. Bail out Hamels.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:41 am
The reason the call is wrong is because of what was called on the field and the situation of the game at that point. The Yankees have 0 runs at that point, you don’t overturn a questionable call and put their first runs of the ball game on the board for them. Regardless of what anyone says the call is questionable, it can go either way, it is not definetly a home run and it is not definetly not a home run, but because of the situation of the game it is the wrong call
November 1st, 2009 at 12:41 am
Come on Stairs do something
November 1st, 2009 at 12:42 am
Let’s just call that 2 run shot by the Yankees what it was — the Viagra home run– he coldnt get it up by himself… Do any controversial calls go the phillies’ way??
November 1st, 2009 at 12:43 am
man Jroll is so frustrating to watch 2 pitches, come you could have at least made him through pitches
November 1st, 2009 at 12:43 am
It was a hr look at the replay the camera not threr it is a homer. Sorry brake didnt go our way we need to get to CC early tommrow night or prepare for Lee to have the whole series on his shoulders vs burnett on mnday night.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:45 am
Jeltz the shit out of Cole
November 1st, 2009 at 12:45 am
Cole Hamels sucks the big one he is a looser.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:46 am
To me this game doesn’t count. I could careless if the Yankees win 2 more games. You don’t make a controversal and questionable call that quickly when a team has yet to get on the scoreboard. Because if you do it is a momentum call. Its not a call somewhere in the middle of the game where both teams are on the board and it could go this way or go that way. You can see how the momentum of the game changed after that. If you call that a HR you are giving the Yankees momentum where they have not earned any, and you are taking momentum away from the Phillies when they have been playing a good ball game. No way there is conclusive evidence on where that ball is going. No way, total cheating by the umps.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:48 am
It wasn’t necessarily a home run because you don’t know the trajectory of the ball, and if you find out the trajectory of the ball it is going to take alot more than 15 seconds. That ball can be dropping more that you think it may be and hit the top of the fence. Regardless it is too close to call. You don’t put runs on the board for a team that hasn’t scored any, because it changes momentum. It is a cheating call because it is A-Rod and the Yankees. They overturned that in 15 seconds, no way they can figure that out that quickly.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:48 am
For the first time in two postseasons, the Phillies must win tomorrow
November 1st, 2009 at 12:50 am
The camera shouldn’t have been where it was, but the camera was in the field of play. It wasn’t behind the fence it was in front of it. The ball looks like it is hitting the top of the fence. The fence is not just the main part from the bottom it is also that screened fence on top of the major part of the fence. If it hits that the ball is in play. Not enough evidence to know for sure that ball was going out. It is the wrong call and cost us the game, that is why to me the game doesn’t count.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:51 am
Come on now that was a HR…. Cole has no put away pitch…. If he did Cole really had a chance to have a special nite. But the apparent plan was to switch to the curve after his 1st go round through the Yankee order. That was the game right there folks. Can we win tomm?? Of course we can. Can we win a Game 6/7 in N.Y.?? I don’t see why not. But Charlie scares me. His moves continue to get more unexplainable. This is the 1st time that the Champs have faced a big post season test in 2yrs. We’ll see how they respond.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:54 am
I don’t know how you can definetly say that ball is a home run. You don’t know the exact trajectory of the ball. That ball can be dropping a lot more that you think at the last minute because that is what fly balls do. To me it looks like it hits the top of the fence. Anyone who says it definetly was a home run doesn’t know what they are talking about.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:12 am
Phillies fans should be very upset right now and should not consider this game a win by the Yankees. John Kruk just said it himself, the ball was in play. The camera is hanging over the wall it was not behind the fence it was in the field of play. I took a really close look at the replays and the ball appears to be hitting the top of the fence it does not look like a home run. Phillies fans should protest and not consider this a win from the Yankees.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:13 am
Actually, Schmidt has a point…The camera which belongs to Fox was in the field of play and therefore interfered with ball just like fan reaching over the fence. Since there no tested and aproved method of calculating the ball’s trajectory, the ruling must be considered interference … at least that’s how i understand it…I could be wrong but iit doesn’t matter though now game over and in the books. It stands.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:14 am
Mitch Williams said it himself, To him, Cole Hamels would not start in the World Series, and Cole Proved it again tonight. If he gets rattled to slightest little bit, its over for him. Had that HR by A-Roid not been called a homer, he might have been able to get out of that and next inning. When he gets frustrated AT ALL, he completely loses it. Remember guys this is still the World Series.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:15 am
Not only that the umpires went in to check the call at 1:25 on the epsn video. At 1:45 they come out and say home run. That took less than 20 seconds. No way, whatsoever, total cheating. Now they are saying that before the game the umps rules that if a ball hit a camera it would be ruled a home run and Charlie Manuel said he was unware of that because the umps did not tell him that. Phillies should protest the game, this win by the Yankees does not count and never will.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:16 am
Face it, we are playing the Yankees. MLB will do ANYTHING in their power to help the Yankees win the WS. To include NOT putting in a Salary Cap.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:18 am
Ultimately the camera hanging over the fence is the ump’s responsibility. they are responsible for making sure all the boundries are suitable for play.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:19 am
Go to MLB.com and watch the replay. NO WAY is there conclusive evidence the ball is going out. Watch it at 0:39 seconds on the replay. That ball is hitting the top of the fence. The fence is not just the green main part it is also that screen part at the top. If it hits the screen the ball is in play. Also watch the umps they are jogging into the dugout at 1:25 on the video. They come out at 1:45 and signal home run. Took them less than 20 seconds, total cheating. Doesn’t count in my book.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:21 am
And they are saying the made the rule before the game if it hits a camera it is a home run, but Charlie is saying he didn’t know anything about it. Total cheating. At 1:25 the umps are still on the field just going in to look at the replay, at 1:45 they are already out and signaling home run. That is cheating right there. 20 seconds? Watch the replay on mlb.com and tell me how ridiculous it looks with the umps going in at 1:25 and already out at 1:45. Game doesn’t count.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:21 am
Seriously though, enough about the freakin home run, some of us are being sore losers. We lost by 3, not by 2. True, I think it was BS, and Queen Cole MIGHT have been to keep it together if that happened because he wouldnt have been rattled as much, but it happened. It was incorrectly ruled a 2 run homer, but the Phils still lost byt more than that home run. Lets stop being sore losers.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:24 am
Wait Schmidt so “now they are saying that before the game the umps rules that if a ball hit a camera it would be ruled a home run and Charlie Manuel said he was unware of that because the umps did not tell him that. Who are they in this instance….you weren’t very clear.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:25 am
i know you guys are going to be mad that im on your site and all. but you guys are really getting like the yankee fans myself and other new yorkers live with everyday. your getting greedynand ungrateful for what u have. you are in the world series back to back years look at my team and 30 other teams that cant even get in the playoffs back to back years let alone the ws. relax and be grateful your here
November 1st, 2009 at 1:28 am
Yes J Reed the umps said that before the game if a ball hits a camera in the outfield it is a home run and Charlie says he didn’t know anything about it. Its not a home run. I’m not a sore loser and I even like the Yankees and I like A-Rod, however I do not like how they make a call that quick and it changes the game. You don’t put the first runs for a team on the board for them, you make them earn it themselves. It is the wrong call and the Phillies got cheated and I do not count this game as a Yankees win. Even if I was the Yankees, or if it was a Phillie who hit the ball I would not be satisfied. I do not like calls like that. Watch the replay at 0:39 at mlb.com, ball isn’t going out plain and simple.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:30 am
To me I think it is cheating because if Charlie doesn’t know about it nobody knows about it. And if it happend to the Phillies the umps could say that before the game they decided if a ball hit an outfield camera the ball would be in play. So it could have happened to a Phillies hitter and the umps could have said no home run and nobody would have known the difference because Charlie himself knew nothing about.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:31 am
Ball isn’t going out it is clear on the mlb.com replay from 0:38 to 0:41.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:33 am
Brian your point on Cole is well taken he blew chunks all over himself, but the issue is still interesting and doesn’t mean debating it make us sore losers. You have effectively affected the outcome of the game by changing the conditions. There isn’t much that can be done about it but it’s an interesting problem to play around with.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:38 am
I don’t think Cole pitched bad either. When you play well, and the umps put runs on the board against you it is cheating. Cole could have gotten into the 7th with the Phillies ahead 3-0, or 3-1. Watch the replay on mlb.com, umps are still on the field at 1:25, 20 seconds later they supposedly reviewed the play and at 1:45 they are already saying home run. You know that is cheating right there. You have to at least take 2 mintues to review that play. Total nonsense.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:38 am
Cole just sucked. Plain and simple. No excuses.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:40 am
For once I agree with Mets88. @Mike Schmidt, seriously, its over, the Phillies lost by 3 not by 2. Like I said earlier.
Would you rather.
A. Miss the Playoffs
B. Lose in the NLDS
C. Lose in the NLCS
D. go down 2 games to 1 in the World Series to a team who pretty bought the championship.
@Mets88, saying “you guys” is making a pretty drastic generalization. MOST of us on here are VERY grateful to be watching out team in the World Series 2 seasons in a row. the poster with the name Mike Schmidt (sorry but you are giving the real Mike Schmidt a bad name buddy) is flipping out about a very bad call, MOST of us are still grateful to be watching the Phillies in the WS, we are just disappointed by the pitcher who is SUPPOSED to be out Ace, but has realisticly been our 3rd or 4th starter ALL SEASON. We are still NL Champs, and really, down 2-1 with 2 games left in Philly. What happens if the Phillies take the next two games which BTW are IN Philadelphia? The Phillies have a 3-2 lead in the series. Let that stupid freakin bad call go already.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:41 am
He didn’t suck, he had a shutout with 2 outs in the 4th. Texeira should have been called out on strikes. When you earn a shutout through 3 & 2/3 and the umps are telling you, you have up 2 runs it can really hurt your confidence and that is what happend to Cole. How many runs did Cole give up before the umps cheated? 0.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:43 am
@J Reed, I was not referring to you as a sore loser, I did make it general, in hopes that the individual who is being a sore loser would chill and let it go, but he or she did not. Let it go. Regardless of the call or not, what happens if the rest of the runs were scored the SAME way, and the 2 run A-Roid Homer was not a homer, what would happen? The Phillies lose 6-5.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:43 am
First of all, I’m not a sore loser and I’m not flipping out either. The call is wrong. Watch the replay its not going out of the park. And the umps are on the field at 1:25, but out at 1:45 signaling a home run. How do you think that is fair? It isn’t. It doesn’t matter what the final score was the game was close enough for it to go either way if they get the call right. The umps cheated by making up a rule before the game that Charlie did not know about. Phillies fans should be upset and it isn’t a bad call to let go already. It was a wrong call and the way they went about it was cheating. When they came out so quickly I knew there was cheating involved.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:45 am
Its not about letting it go or calling people a sore loser. The call is wrong. You don’t make a call like that in 15 seconds which is what the umps did. And you don’t know that the final score would have been 6-5. You don’t put first runs on the board for a team, you make them earn it and we do not deserve this as a team which has played great all year.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:45 am
If Cole wants to be the Ace of the staff, he needs to be able to go out and deal with crap like that. Everytime ANYTHING happens to Hamels, he flips out, and it over. PERIOD. If he wants to be the Ave of the staff, he needs to be able to put that behind him, and get it done, he simply can not. He gets rattled, and it batting practice.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:47 am
Cole didn’t pitch that bad??? Really? What game were you watching?? It was 3-2. Lead off double off his junk curve when he was doing just fine w/o using it. Out. Followed by another junk curve to a pitcher. Base hit/rbi. Tie game. Walk. 2 run double to a lefty in Damon that was struggling big time. Garbage performance. Stop with the BS…
November 1st, 2009 at 1:48 am
The only one still posting and ranting about the bad call which I agree with a very bad call, is you. Most everyone else is upset with it, but is discussing the other portions of the game which needs help. i.e. Howard striking out 7 times in 2 games, the bullpen also sucking it up, every time Hamels gets rattled its batting practice. It was a bad call, the game is over, the Yankees won, the Phillies Lost, the series is NOT over. I sure the Phillies put this lost behind them and look at the next two games IN PHILLY for what it is, and home field advantage.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:49 am
Cole had a shutout with 2 outs in the 4th, unless they give Texiera a base. With A-Rod’s double it is man on 2nd and 2 out, or 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Its not BS, the call is wrong. And Cole still didn’t get hit hard after that, it was a couple of bloop hits.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:51 am
I’m not ranting I’ve been a Phillies fan for 30 years. I like the Yankees too and I like A-Rod, I root for A-Rod and I really like how the Yankees are playing this year. I do not like umps cheating and doing it very quickly. 20 seconds? You think that is fair. It isn’t and the ball was not going out of the park. They reversed that call in less than 20 seconds and put the first runs on the board for the Yankees. This call is similiar to the Steelers Cardinals SuperBowl how they decided so quickly to give the call to the Steelers. No way a call like that is reversed that quickly.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:53 am
at least you’re making us all laugh… i kinda newed it right now. Andy had one bad inng and then he settled in. Cole had a bad inning aided heavily by a blown call. Then he implodes the following inning. C’mon Son!
November 1st, 2009 at 1:54 am
And because of “a couple of bloop hits” he gave up 3 runs in the 5th. If the Phillies had lost by 1, I would be seriously flipping out to no end, but really, they lost by 3. MAYBE Queen Cole could have gotten out of the 4th and 5th if it was called the correct way, but fact of the matter is, its over, it happened, IF the rest happened the way it had turned the Phillies still lose. Again, the ONLY one still flipping out (yes I said flipping out is only ONE user on here.) the game is OVER the Series is NOT over.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:55 am
Its not that the call is wrong, it is how they went about it. All 6 umps called it a double. All umps are on the field at 1:25 before the play is reviewed, they are out at 1:45 signaling home run in a game where we are at home and leading 3-0, and they give it to A-Rod and the Yankees that quickly, that is what I do not like. If it happened to Feliz, or Swisher or Cano they wouldn’t have been out in 20 seconds. Because it is A-Rod and the Yankees they give them the call in less than 20 seconds.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:57 am
You can say it is over and this and that, but in this day and age they way they went about the call is wrong. When they came out that quick and said HR, I knew something was wrong. It is not the call itself, it is the way they went about it, and it was total nonsense. I am not losing a game like that, have the Yankees win without that call and I am happy. Either way I am happy. But it is the same thing in the Twins Yankees game, Mauer’s ball was way in, and they called it out, and I was rooting for the Yankees. I don’t like when umps or refs do that.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:59 am
If you don’t say anything about it or protest calls like this will happen forever and they have been doing it sports for a while now. They favor certain teams. If you just say ‘Oh well” bad call move on, that is one thing, but not on a call like this.
We got a break in Game 2 when the ball bounced into Howards glove and they said he caught it on the fly, but that was a very tough call to make. Here they are saying that it is a HR by what they umps decided before the game withouth Charlie’s knowledge, not by the trajectory of whether it would have cleared the fence or not, that is why I do not like the play.
November 1st, 2009 at 1:59 am
Well I dont “hate” the Yankees, but definately do NOT like A-Roid. LOL. He was caught and even after he was caught, and his cousin dimed him out he still lied about it. Oh well. Lets just hope the Phillies have a short memory. Harry Kalas had the point dead on. “Cole had a bad inning aided heavily by a blown call. Then he implodes the following inning”. TRUE it was a blown call, but lets move on, and hope the Phillies have moved on. I dont disagree with you about it, but its over. its in the past. No point in getting an ulcer and living in the past. thats my point. My point is NOT that your frustration is not warranted, or not that I disagree, my point it lets look forward to what is still seriously home field advantage. Game 2 and game 3 were both MUST WINS for the Yankees, now, 4 and 5 are must wins for the Phillies.
November 1st, 2009 at 2:00 am
mets88 – i am a very greatful fan….We have endured plenty of heartbreak over the years. I am still happy about last year….I suppose playing the Yankees puts aliitle more sting into the loss. But keep in mind that this team was built from scratch with a few extra personnel added in this year. It had alot of growing pains it went thru and all of us fans went thru it with them. My dad died just before getting see the our WS victory. For years he always said this team would go on to to great things and each year for long awhile they came up short. He died the year before we made it back to the play-offs in ‘07. It was another 1 or 2 games short scenario…I remember breaking the news to him in the hospital that they came up short again. He was in the terminal phase of his lung cancer. I ‘ll never forgot watching the fight drain from his eyes with that news. It was heart wrenching…so believe me I am grateful for all this. It doesn’t mean that I don’t grumble about things. I am a fan after all and that’s what fans do. Doesn’t mean that I think they didn’t deserve to lose tonight…they did put up 5 runs and that’s at least a respectable loss.
November 1st, 2009 at 2:01 am
What I am saying is that the umps didn’t rule it a HR because they checked the replay and figured by the trajectory that it was going out. They called it a HR, because supposedly the umps made a rule that if a ball hit a camera in the outfield it would be a HR, but Charlie didn’t know about it. It is straight up cheating anyway you look at it.
November 1st, 2009 at 2:03 am
Its the Yankees, they are ALWAYS favored. PERIOD. MLB ALWAYS wants the Yankees to win. In MLB’s eyes, the only reason professional baseball lasted this long is because of the Yankees.
November 1st, 2009 at 2:06 am
Again, I agree with what you are saying. The ONLY thing I HATE about the Yankees if the absolute love affair with that team regardless of what happens. IF the same happened to ANY other team in MLB, it would have been a double.
November 1st, 2009 at 2:07 am
I am very grateful for this Philies team and I love the Phillies, listened to almost every game on WCAU in the 1980’s. The thing is, it is not over. Because there is cheating going on in sports and if you don’t do something about it, it will continue to happen.
This is what I think happened and why it was cheating.
The umps and ground crew decided to put cameras over the outfield fences and in play. If not, then why are the cameras over the outfield fence? Kruk got very mad about this. The camera should not have been there. Now, they made up a rule before the game that Charlie didn’t know about. What I’m saying is that if a Phillie hit a camera, the umps could have come out and said they made up a rule before the game that if a ball hit an outfield camera it would be in play, and nobody would know anything about it, because Charlie didn’t know.
So I think they put the cameras over the outfield fence on purpose to give the Yankees an edge. It a Yankee hits it, its an automatic HR, if a Phillie hits it, it is a double because that is the rule they made up before the game. No matter what rule they made before the game Charlie didn’t know about, so they put the cameras over the outfield fence to give the Yankees an extra edge becuase if a ball hits it they will call it however they want to.
November 1st, 2009 at 2:07 am
I’ll give you the Twin’s blown call. But the Phils got some very favorable calls in big spots throughout their current playoff run. Bleep happens. But it’s how you deal with it if a blown call doesn’t end the game that determines your character. I agree Cole had good stuff tonite. But he was not intelligent in his approach. It’s sad because if he had ditched than junk curve or used it in better spots the tone of this bpard would be completely different rigtht now. We just have to find a way to win Game 4 some how. Charlie has to go all out and use his Bp more often and in better spots. Because most likely Lee goes the distance in Game 5 regardless. It won’t be easy, but a win tomm and we can still win this series in 6 games.
November 1st, 2009 at 2:09 am
That’s all I’m saying and to me it is not a Yankees win.
Why is the camera in the field of play and over the fence in the first place? Doesn’t make any sense.
November 1st, 2009 at 2:11 am
On balls and strikes calls are always questionable. I don’t like it in sports when they make calls like they did tonight on the HR. A-Rod is saying yeah it was a HR because he hit the camera. Since when does hitting a camera mean an automatic HR, the ball has to clear the fence.
Only in games where teams are given secret edges that give umps a chance to throw a game for them. 15 seconds the umps are in and out, that is total cheating.
November 1st, 2009 at 2:14 am
Shameful for the camera to be there in the 1st place. Very arrogant as well. The blown call on the 3-2 pitch didn’t help either. And we just gained an extra hour to mull over it. Thanks Moon!
November 1st, 2009 at 2:18 am
I’m just more about a fair and balanced game that exactly who wins and who loses. If the Phillies got that call I wouldn’t like it either, because I want to win fair and square.
They are saying it is a HR, not because it would have cleared the fence, but because they supposedly made up a rule before the game and Charlie was not aware of it. That is why Phillies fans should be upset, and that is why it is cheating.
November 1st, 2009 at 2:22 am
Maybe this is the pessimist coming out in me, but as long as the Yankees are playing, the game of baseball will NEVER be “fair and balanced”.
November 1st, 2009 at 2:51 am
Schmidt does make alot of valid points esp. about the pre-game ruling that the camera getting hit is a home run and not have it in any way officially and pubicly acknowledged in some way. This is the WS after all. We have no way to verify if Charlie knew this or not but if there isn’t any record of this ruling being made ultimately makes Charlie’s knowledge or lack of it irrelevant since they can’t prove when the rule change took place let alone if it ever did. Christ, it might techinally not be a valid game. Just some food for thought…
November 1st, 2009 at 3:10 am
The issue isn’t blown calls which MLB deludes itself to think all will necesarily average out when all is said and done…[maybe in the regular season when you have an enormous sample size but not necessarily in the post season]. If what Schmidt say is true, then this a rule change not a blown call and that a whole different issue. It definitely desrves an explanation
November 1st, 2009 at 3:21 am
An explanation we will never get, because we are playing the Yankees.
November 1st, 2009 at 4:51 am
So i guess we just have to beat them….in six cause other than happ who do you go with for a game seven? Happ just doesn’t look to sharp out there, but anyone other than Hair Product Hamels just on principle at this point
November 1st, 2009 at 12:29 pm
Yankees will win the final!
